Beat SR3 and 4 over the weekend, The were brilliant. Then moved on to Pokemon Y. I couldn't get into the BW series, but I really dig XY. There's a really great pokemon selection.

Yeah I didn't even buy data I just went around pokemoning. Only got killed by lvl capped players a couple of times while doing it. Whole game was a fun ride... just not my kind of thing anymore.

Seriously eyeing magicka wizard wars. Can't tell if its pvo only or coop PvP or some kind of story mode. My inclination is to buy it w/o question as I love everything else they did...

Farming Simulator 2013....

Nope, I don't know why either...

It's just so damned relaxing, tilling, seeding, pottering around on me Tractor, harvesting, watching the sun set...

Really I think it's because it's about as close to being an outdoorsman as I'm ever going to get!

And I'm really hoping for a good find on eBay at the moment, I have a huge hankering for an NES/Famicom....

Although in all honesty, I too prefer the actual consoles and games.

Downloaded Shadow of the Colossus to start this weekend.
I have not played it and only heard good things about it.

I also got Ico for similar reasons, but plan to start with Shadow of the Colossus.

Both are free on PS+ !

Oh man, Ico is a totally gorgeous game. And extremely chilled too.... Can't comment on Shadow Of The Colossus though, as it's one that slipped through my fingers.

Missed an "unmissable" story trophy in xiii-2, and otherwise have a platinum. Hoping it is a missed conversation - if not its close enough to the start to re-do in a few hours.
Figuring that out then on to Shadow of the Colossus or Ico.

Plus of course the loot hunt in BL2. ^^

Still on Dark Souls. Blighttown made me want to cry, but I got past it eventually. Sen's Fortress was nasty, but nowhere near as bad as Blighttown IMO. Right now I can't get very far into Anor Londo because those stupid stone sentinel things keep murdering me.

A store in the UK counter-intuitively called Oz Game Shop. They are basically to Aussies for video games what Maelstrom was to Aussies for GW products - everything is cheaper, shipping is free.

And they sell lots more than just games. I've ordered 40K RPG books from them in the past and Blu-Rays and all sorts of stuff.

Playing Batman: Arkham Origins on the iPhone. Another freebie by Netherrealm, just like Injustice on the iPhone was. Combat is more involved, and you upgrade abilities like in the previous Arkham games. It's challenging at first when you have "ambush" fights, but as you unlock better suits and better abilities, the game becomes much easier. Be prepared to reset the internal clock on your phone though. A lot. I have to say though, Netherrealm is doing a lot of impressive work with putting out extremely playable free games.

The temptation to buy a PS3 just for that and D2 has been quite maddening, heck had the PS4 been backwards compatible I think that would have been a big enough push over the edge to preorder one.

As to me,

Not a great deal of late, a little bit of Skyrim, the odd half hour on WoW (I always tend to get my interest/hopes up? near a approaching Blizzcon) and some Saints 4. Tbh been busier with modelling and painting this month, although that probably is a good thing.

I never got around to finishing the first Disgaea. Found out the other day I can buy it for PS3 via the US store. So I am gonna reply Hour of Darkness before picking up D2

I think the set up times on painting and modeling makes it harder to get around too. You can turn a console on and play for ten minutes. For painting you have to get everything out before you start and clean up afterwards.

So yea. . .I started The Last of Us over the weekend.

I am not sure what to think. Technically, thematically, and story-wise it is amazing.

I have not played it too long yet, but I can tell that most everything people said good about it is true.

And yet I am not sure I want to turn it on again.

I will definitely give it some more time, but for as amazing as it is . . . it just is not fun.

Maybe it is too good - they were aiming for foreboding and loss and nailed it.
Maybe I am just not in the right mind for it ATM.

It suffers the same issue that spec ops the line had, amazing story but sub-par game play. I will say that I love the multi player for the last of us though. When I beat it I definitely had no urge to play through again though.

I second that.

The Last of Us isn't fun (well, any bit where you're fighting humans isn't). But it's an experience, and one that's well worth getting through the frustrating bits such as "Where did that guy's shotgun go and why can't I have it?" or "What do you mean I can't carry more than 7 rifle rounds? That's absurd!". Learn to live with that, and it's well worth the effort.

I am playing Legacy of Kain: Defiance of all things. Soul Reaver is one of my favourite games and i believe it, and not Darksiders, holds the crown of 'Dark Zelda' (especially considering how close it's release was to Ocarina of Time), i never got round to playing Defiance. Soul Reaver 2's combat and puzzles were just not as engaging so i gave up on it never to return to the series.

The game holds up okay, the combat is surprisingly rich, with launches, a very responsive dodge and a well implemented TK ability. The platforming is pretty Horrid to be honest but the game is pretty forgiving with checkpoints.

The graphics are perfectly serviceable, with some nice art design and clever use of textures. I for one am one of the few that like PS2 era graphics, things could get a little muddy but it forced developers to be very clever.

Outside of the good combat animations the game is a little lacking in that department but it doesn't completely ruin things. However it would have been nice to see a bit more distinction between Raziel and Kain's movement. For example, Raziel retains his trademark gliding ability and Kain glides as well however he simply floats, holding a single pose. It would have been nice to see a few flourishes and it is symptomatic of the general flaw that the two Protagonists are too similar.

The Crystal Dynamics Legacy of Kain games all present their stories in a thoroughly modern way and all those aspects hold up really well. Voice acting is great and the lines are well written. The setting of Nosgoth has always been an intriguing one to me and Crystal Dynamics do not get enough praise for their environmental story telling, alot is shown and not told.

The music is decent and although it repeats this was still back when music was catchy rather than boring Orchestra dirge.

I was really disappointed when i saw that Trailer for 'Nosgoth'. Nosgoth for me is a setting that yearns to be explored and solve puzzles in, not fought over in pretty crappy looking team deathmatches.

The worst is where I'm up to. So many times Joel just takes off to do something leaving Ellie by herself. I keep making my way back thinking 'oh god she's going to be gone when I get there'.

Also, I keep running out of ammo. I think right now I have like 4 bullets for each pistol, 4 for the rifle, and a few arrows. I know I'll get through each encounter, but knowing it's so low just... ugh. At least I have a fully stocked flamethrower.

Limited ammo/survival style games get annoying sometimes. Its like the caps to your ammo in bioshock were low enough that you could spend hours playing stockpiling ammo, and then hose it all out in 5-10 minutes fighting a big daddy or a mob. It adds to strategy or fear, sometimes, but it can get annoying

While this is true, it shouldn't be true, EA knows how many copies were pre-ordered, they know how many players will be going live, at this point I don't think you can excuse these launch day crashes.

360, figured out the issues--had to reconfigure wireless completely and adjust some options and latency is much much better and the other issue was the right trigger sticking ever so slightly from being old, so I'm very pleased with it now. The server crashing is normal and actually less than expected.

System Shock 2. I don't know if people's expectations of games back then was lower, or that nostalgia skews opinions of it, but I found it to be a bit meh. I guess modern (ish) games have spoiled me.

For the time, it was revolutionary for combining FPS/RPG elements and its way it tells it story. Of course the graphic were not pretty back then, it was the 1990's-early 2000's, but I'd rather have that over any of the large modern garbage out today.

Oh I just mean that its clunky as hell and expect you to play it slowly and tactically, despite throwing mooks at you every few seconds. For someone not used to its play style it just comes across as a convoluted gaming experience. Graphically it doesn't bother me, and if that was the problem there's probably a texture pack out there for it by this point. Its just that it didn't really meet my expectations and requires way too much adjusting to get used to.

Funny enough I played it for the first time yesterday and I really don't see me playing it much longer: I started feeling very, very motion sick.

Well, finished Sleeping Dogs, said a big FU to the missing achievements and I planned to add System Shock 2 to the play list... I'll probably just focus on Ar Tonelico now.

Rift has a lot going for it - the way you build your character can be a lot of fun - and the zone invasions and stuff are awesome. I got to the point where all I was doing was raiding and quit before the big expansion, though.

Been rocking BF4 this weekend.

Its a bit different from the BETA, as expected, so took me a bit to get back into the swing of things, and so far Im digging it. Also, my team was curb stomped by a fella in one of the attack helicopters and so I figured it was time to learn to fly one to counter them. And I have to say, the learning curve was WOW hard, but Ive got it down, and the last match where I needed to fly, I took out a jet and 2 other chopers before smacking into a tree like a dunce and crashing. I didnt die though, I bailed at the last minute and survived for a few moments

Oh I have nothing against the ending. It fit the game really well.

It's just that I don't find many reasons to keep playing an open world game once the credits roll, and generally by then I've burned out and don't want to replay it. But I just wanted more. I did that final Stranger mission after the credits rolled and put it away.

Yeah, I'll agree with that issue. Luckily, the Undead Nightmare DLC came out right after I finished the campaign LOL.

And as for the ending -

Spoiler:
I'll never understand why people didn't like the ending. I mean, it's the perfect cowboy game. Bad guy tries to redeem himself...but life is never that easy for a cowboy outlaw. Son gets old, and goes down the outlaw path to get "revenge" for his dead father. It's great in my opinion, and I'm glad they didn't try to give it a more..."positive" ending. But to each his own and whatnot.

My problem with the game was not that John Marston died, but that they forced us to continue life as his son, and his son had daddy issues. Kill a bear and skin it, kid says, "Just like you taught me pa!", "I'm John Marston's boy!", and other hackneyed lines like that made me dislike the game. I would have been okay with the ending of the game if it ended with John's death. Ah, yeah, I can totally agree with that.
Spoiler:
Luckily, there's not much to the game after John dies, so you don't have to deal with it for long. I had most of the game completed when I got to the final mission with John. My brother, on the other hand, rushed through it, and had at least five side-quests open when he finished the game...so, he had to suffer through playing as Jack to finish them

Red Dead has a great story and visuals but the core shooting gameplay is not fun in the slightest. The shooting is just awful and the mission design is incredibly boring. Not to mention Marston moves like a canal barge on foot and is about as big a target as one if the cover system is anything to go by. Shooting from horseback requires 3 hands unless you use deadeye and missions commonly spawn endless waves of Horseback enemies at you, who have the accuaracy of Marine Sharpshooters.

The only fun to be had with the shooting is from the, often hilarious, 'natural-motion' middleware powered deaths.

You find me a person that actually enjoyed the terrible mission when you're on that barge to Mexico i'll find you a liar. It's ironic that one of the best moments in gaming history, the bit with the song when you first touch down on Mexico, is after one of the worst missions i've ever played, that barge one.

I'd still give the game an 8.5, anything horse related is good and a couple of the minigames are good (though they're mostly terrible). Unlocking the outfits is quite compelling and Marston has a great deal of fun ways to interact with people and the environment.

Echoing that. Shooting was ridiculously easy in RDR. Most of my deaths came from me being stupid (like shooting my own horse in the back of the head at full run), not from being outshot by enemies.

Not to mention, Dead Eye is there to use. It's not a cheat or anything, it's a game mechanic they put in for you to use.

I also never found any problem with the barge mission. Like, at all. But go ahead and call me a liar, and I'll just go ahead and say you're just bad at games.

I didn't say it was difficult. I merely said it wasn't fun/was boring. EDIT: Marston not taking cover right was sometimes frustrating. You didnt say you enjoyed that mission so my point stands.

EDIT 2: The barge mission sucked for reasons entirely separate from difficulty. In fact about half way through i stopped shooting 90% of the enemies. (IIRC only the guys with bombs were a threat). The mission went on forever and simply consisted of shooting baddies, with the occasional bomb thrower. You stayed crouched behind the same wall for the entire duration without any need to move.

I've had GTA V on the go since it came out. I have to say, I am actually really enjoying it. I hated GTA IV, and didn't think much of San Andreas; Vice City was the last one I really enjoyed.

I've just finished FFVII for the umpteenth time, only this time I actually beat Emerald and Ruby. So, I'm looking for another game to start now I have a little more time. My unfinished/unopened games that I'm considering are:

-Tales of Xillia
-Skyrim
-Red Dead Redemption
-Hitman HD Collection
-Batman Arkham City (with a view to getting Arkham Origins if I finish that)

Skyrim and RDR are good choices, Skyrim having waaaaay more to do. I have about 250 hours into it, and the only quest I've fully completed is the main quest line. I've heard that Origins was kind of a disappointment compared to Arkham City, but I haven't played it myself.

Is there an ETA on BG2:EE?

I'm pretty sure BG:EE is pretty damn faithful to the original game, minus using the BG2 graphics engine. Its different, but probably better, and that zoom out thing that lets you put more on the screen is a godsend in these days of monitors with a resolution over 800x640 or whatever it used to be

Dispel magic is you friend!

Actually still playing skyrim. I've got a 40something kitty with something of an ADD problem. Mostly magic and sneaking but there are perks all over the place. Some days I'm tempted to legendary skills to get new perks, other days I remember that I hate grinding. Going the route of magic, and not dumping much into health, has really kept the difficulty of the game more intact that I experience in other playthroughs. I mean, I can stun lock things straight to death, but then the magic always runs dry eventually (working on enchanting to correct that ), and some monsters/NPCs can just about one-shot me, so self-inflicted difficulty I guess. More re-playability than I thought I was going to get out of this pick up.

That's what I love about Skyrim. It is a totally different experience with different 'class' characters. I made a pure mage a while ago and man is that hard! No armor and little health makes for a more hair raising experience. And frustrating when getting one-shotted all the time lol.

Started playing Gears Of War Judgement today, and well.....how far the migthy has fallen. Because this game is sadly just plain medicore and lacks any sense of feel or depth to it. Not to say that the previous games where monuments of story telling, but at least you had a set of characthers you knew and understood. But here, well except for Baird & Cole there is no one I really could care about. And this added to the fact that combat is way to easy, and the new point based reward system reeks of ass also dont help.

Sorry, I just don't get that joke. Absolution is absolutely the WORST in the series.

If you are disguised as a cop, all other cops are automatically suspicious of you as they don't recognise you. If that was the end of it, I'd say "Fair enough", but if you hide behind something or roll about on the floor, they stop being suspicious. REALLY?

"Hmm, there's a guy over there that I don't recognise in our precinct's uniform. Think I'll take a mosey on over there and introducve myself to the rookie/find out what's going on. Oh, he's just rolled behind that camper van, obviously doesn't want to talk to me, I'll go back to talking with Hank over there."

Absolution jumped the shark big time by making the best murder simulation going (Blood Money) and turning it into a race between invisible checkpoints hoping you don't get found out and sent back to the start of the level.

I found Bad Company 2 in a box so i decided to have a go at the Story Mode, i played through it when it first came out and remember it being alright. Or at least not actively unpleasant like BF3 story mode.

I've gotta say that aside from the ugly, boring and UNSKIPPABLE cutscenes it's actually a little better than i remembered. The environments are often startlingly ugly but where the art direction and beautiful lighting come together it's still a fine looking game.

The enemy AI is pretty good and they use their grenades and underslung launchers to convincingly flush you out. It's also always nice to see a game with some subtly delineated enemy 'classes' to make fights feel a little more tactical.

The gunplay is satisfying and the sound is also brilliant. I'd also forgotten how much terrain you can, and often do, actually destroy.

Guild Wars 2 has gone forwards and backwards. Forwards in that they've added quite a lot, including a new teir of items (although that was entirely unneccesary at this point of the games life), a massively redone boss, dungeon improvements, a new (pretty unpopulated) location, and a lot more.

They've gone backwards in that they're entirely ignoring their initial design manifesto of leaving grind at the door, and are adding intentional grind whenever they can. They initially reduced karma grind with daily and monthly rewards, then recently took that away to add karma grind back in. Ascended weapons are the absolute definition of grind.

I recently got back into the game, but the recent changes have pushed me back out. While I was committed to getting a legendary, and about 35% done as well, the massive amount of added grind the karma change added just put me off entirely. Now I don't even want to play the game at all.

@xruslanx Actively searching for quests? You mean like you ran out and couldn't find more? How is that possible? I get a little bored with the radial quests, but you can talk to any barkeep, hold steward, and a fairly large portion of the population to get quests all the time. Not to mention the letters you get sent when you shout in town, or hit certain levels.

If you mean all of the walking it takes to find a quest location... I can see that. Getting a horse can help, or just learning which side of a mountain has the "up" on it, going up the path is 10x easier that beating your head trying to "climb" it... though that isn't always impossible

I think the replayability of Skyrim goes up too when you make a game within a game of it. My bosmer archer won't talk to people, he has zero trades, its kind of fun living off the land and or breaking into houses at night to steal supplies and leaving behind guilt money/treasure

Grinding? Grinding is replayability At least it is if you aren't willing to keep updated content at the pace that your players can devour it (which is probably impossible, which is my mmos and things like them need grinding to an extent). Grinding turns me off too though, I can barely stomach crafting in any game anymore beyond find a weapon upgrade, right click it, done.

Agreed - it's rough around the edges, but I loved that game...especially the dialog between the members of Bad Company (I thought BC1 was funnier, however). Heck, going back, I even liked the online more than BF3's...I just hated how long it took to level up, and how few unlocks the game actually had.

I thought the multiplayer in 3 was slightly better but it was one of those 'add two cool new features, take one away' kinda things.

BFBC2 maybe encouraged teamwork a teency bit better imo but it's infantry and especially vehicle combat imo doesn't quite match up. The worst thing about BF3 compared to BFBC2 was that i actually enjoyed conquest in bad company, not as much as rush, but i didn't hate it like in 3.

EDIT: I really missed the plentiful Quad bikes from bad company, 3 only had jeeps (initially) which was just a one way ticket to death.

BF3 would have been far superior if people actually played Karkand and other great maps... instead of fething metro.

For being a serial killer,

It's the first of series i played , haven't played the other ones yet, i just liked the way that like deus Machina you can finish the level in many different ways or just gung ho it.

I've been playing the gak out of GTA 5. This is the first GTA since Vice City where I've loved everything about it - the gameplay works properly, the world feels more alive than ever due to random criminal activity around you, the missions are fun - especially the heists, the checkpoint system helps along any hard missions, the characters are great and it's got some silly fun violence.

GTA V. I love everything about it, except for what happens with the Lost. I just can't forgive Trevor for what he did to them.

Yeah that opening scene with Trevor... sure was an opening scene. I didn't like the Lost all that much, but that was a bit uncalled for, especially for a character that a lot of people did like. The Lost aren't gone though - I run over plenty of them driving around the desert.

What's odd is the more I play the more I like Trevor aside from being, you know, a meth dealer, which is pretty irredeemable. His crush on the mob bosses wife was hilariously touching.

Then Blood Money is the one you ought to try. That was the pinacle of the series. Need to plant an expolding briefcase in an area? Leave it to be found as a security guard, disguise yourself as one, collect it, and take it where it has to go. Or disguise yourself as a diamond seller and take it there yourself. Or just throw it over the wall. Whatever works for you.

I'm with you, I really enjoyed Vice City, but thought they haven't done a good one since. GTA V though really is brilliant. I felt the series had stagnated into a "Kill him, steal this, go there, drive that" affair. I think GTA V managed to incorporate something new into nearly every mission you play.

I'm on my second run of Skyrim, and I am really loving it. I suppose it helps that it's been almost two years since my first. I'm a more stealth/magic type user this time around, which makes for a very different gaming experience.

I've just started getting into Skyrim again actually! Still a beautiful game..

Been playing 'The Last of Us' over the past few days. And I have to say, it's good but I don't think the game changer that some people had made it out to be.

Story is nicely written and scripted.. but it's been done before.
the 'stealth' system is nice, but again I don't think as well implemented as in some other games (MGS or Splinter Cell), and absolutely ruthless in the way it punishes you for your unwitting mistakes.

In fact, a thought struck me while I was playing of how the game operates, and reminded me of something.. of a sequence in Doom (going back a few years now! ), or maybe Doom 2, I forget which. Towards the end of the game there was a sequence where you walked into a room: a long corridor, filled with explosive barrels; a cyberdaemon appears, blows up some barrels which kills you. So, you reload, this time you try running straight, the barrels explode and kill you. You try running left, then right into a gap.. this time you survive a few more seconds, but still die. Eventually, after 6-7 deaths, you learn the sequence, thread the needle' and manage to survive. That is very much how some of the sequences seem in this game - I almost got to the point where I would just run through on a 'recce', scoping the enemies and their positions, then do a 'restart' (handily it's very easy to restart, and fast - glad, otherwise would have given up on the game). Eventually you find the correct route of actions.

So.. 20 years on from Doom or whatever, and this game for all of it's production values and talk of it being a radically new experience, are still pretty much the same in terms of how they interact with the player. As Charlie Brooker put it, the narrative is all the more frustrating because it's basically like reading a novel where the book stops you from turning over to the next page. I found it really grinds with what the game is trying to do, which is to provide a powerful emotive and story-driven experience. Unlike Dark Souls, where I found my deaths invigorating and even amusing (and driven to get back and try again), in Last of Us I've just found the endless stealth/kill/die sequences something to be endured rather than enjoyed.

Anyway! Not a bad game by any means, but I have to be honest a little disappointing in terms of what I was expecting.

Still skyrim, wish it would lose it's entertainment value again 'cause I've got hobby stuff to do! Put my antisocial wood elf archer and my does whatever cat-mage on hold for a sword and board kitty fighter. Taking a fairly loose approach this time and not bothering to sneak or be inquisitive at all. Straight line to the meat of the quest or dungeon, gut the boss monster efficiently, and move on. Use magic weapons until they run out of soul-juice and then disenchant or discard them. I haven't quite gone the full route of conjuration swords/axe/bow item-phobia that I've been threatening myself with, but shield bashing is kind of fun so I'll do it for awhile.

It also helps after you get some experience and learn which encounters have chances of doing what. Like some are lose/gain crew, others can lose resources or gain them, or weapons etc. Helps you weigh the risks.

If you weren't running from the rebels and didn't fight the boss at the end, this would come very close to being Oregon Trail in Space

Currently just picked up State of Decay on Steam... And for a zombie apocalypse game (not usually my cup of tea) it is really good. And also not quite your typical zombie/town survival game

You know how most go: go out in the day, collect crap up, run back before nightfall and hope you can survive another night.

Also picked up Path of Exile on Steam for free, and it is a pretty fun game in similar vein to d3 (the reviews say its what d3 should have been, but i leave that judgement up to you)

It's not so much about the story, it's the characters and acting that gave it a step up from other video games doing the same thing.

I can't think of a single other game that made me cry, but the end of prologue for this game? They fething nailed it. The whole father/daughter development and how well it was executed through the game is what makes TLOU stand apart, not the standard 'someone is immune and the cure' story which, as said, has been done, a lot. This Penny Arcade comic pretty much sums it up.

Those are all pretty good selections in my opinion. I loved the Resistance series and Tomb Raider. Killzone 3 was pretty good, but I thought the campaign was kind of disappointing (compared to the second). And I played GoW III for the same reason - just to finish the story

It's one thing saying 'ok this is a step up from other games', but in terms of story telling I've seen a lot of films that have had more of an impact on me.

And in terms of a game, which really is the important bit, I have found it flawed.

Don't get me wrong, it's good and I haven't gone outside and shaken my fist at the sky due to wasted hours of my life, but far from having the penny arcade-reaction I just sat there happily munching on a sandwich and to be honest not really connecting with the characters at all.

Oh well!

Its getting a sandbox expansion next friday. I really enjoyed it for a while but there isn't really much point in continuing playing and the storyline essentially boils down to go to X and kill zombies than go to Y and kill zombies....

Its fine for what it costs but overall its quite lacking. Hopefully Deadstate will be a better example of this kind of game.

I think the stick placement on the 360 controller is better and the triggers, but the ps3 controller beats it in weight (not as heavy for long gaming sessions), and I think the sticks themselves are better on the ps3.

It's a horrifically buggy mess, more so than X games usually are on release; its basically in an alpha stage of development. In a years time it may be good once its been heavily patched and modders have had their way with it but at the moment its not worth your money.

There is a day one patch? lol.......

It was also going to be available outside of the xbox, but Microsoft pulled out of that at the 11th hour. You were going to be able to download the patch, put it on a usb drive and install it on your system, but now if you don't have Live, Microsoft will "work with you" to get this problem solved.

Infinite? Yes, I'd have to say I did like it after all was said and done. I'm not sure I like the gameplay more than 1 & 2 but I appreciate the story. It reminded me of Inception, not in plot but rather the complexity of it.

If I see that go on sale low enough I'll snap it up. Sounds like it's just enough content to spice up another playthrough or two, which is about right. A little something extra to give you an excuse to play again

Finally digging into Assassins Creed 4 and Killzone Shadowfall since I got my PS4.

Assassins Creed 4 is awesome. Utterly redeems the series from Assassins Creed 3. I've put at least 10 hours into it, and haven't even reached memory sequence 6. There's just so much do to. I've even started collecting because collecting in this game gets you things (sea shanties).

Shadowfall is Killzone through and through, so that's a plus if you like Killzone but a negative if you don't like Killzone. It's also hard. Harder than previous Killzone games. If you don't make use of your wallhack device, you'll die. A lot. But feth - if you want a purdy game to show off to friends what the PS4 can do? Shadowfall.

Another for Armored Core being the only AC out there

I played Assassin's Creed 4 for a bit the other day, and it was loads of fun - But one question, will I have to play through Revelations and Assassin's Creed 3 to understand the story? I played through the first three, but kinda got burnt out on the series for a long time.

On-Topic, I started Dishonored. I'm loving the setting, and the story is neat....but the controls are holding it back in my opinion. Overall, worth my $10 for sure.

Revelations sets up 3, and contains a decent plot twist (that like no one totally saw coming), and Assassin's Creed 3 does conclude the storyline of Desmond Miles. Black Flag takes up a different point of view after the events of 1 through 3.

Also as for Dishonored, I had issues with the controls too... I feel like it's a game best left for the PC.

They do, they work pretty much flawlessly. My main problem with Dishonoured is that it is far, far too easy to simply run and gun your way through the game. I got annoyed with constantly being discovered by the guards on the final level so I went on a murderous rampage that made things so much simpler.

I bought the latest humble bundle so I am currently downloading Sanctum 2 and Serious Sam 3. I have also become strangely obsessed with Godus despite not being able to actually do anything other than tediously sculpt terrain.

GTA online, probably better stop, it's pretty addicting. I've just lost three days to it. There's a couple things that are pretty annoying but on the whole it's ALOT of fun, aside from the Jerks.

One very annoying thing is the way the racing works. It's very much 'Finish First or don't finish at all', there's no incentive to keep racing after you know you're not getting first place. I still race but it's just a shame that all the best car unlocks are reserved for wins only.

Considering how much blind luck comes into play it makes the momentary screw-ups all the more galling. They should fix that ASAP (I.e 'Podium finish' is counted as a win) as the racing is fun. Apart from 'GTA-Race' events, they suck.

Some of the Co-op 'PVE' missions are outstanding and most really emphasise the tense, Hyper-lethal, combat. I also think the recoil model is actually fairly good on the guns, it's also worth pointing out the often challenging AI, i've never been flanked as much before. On the whole It shows how much they've tightened things up since GTA 4 and Red dead, though the cover is still often not 'Sticky' enough.

No it's fracking TOUGH! and I'm just going to say it's generally hard, because the controls are solid and what not, but some later stages you can't help but take hits to continue.... period, which annoys me greatly and makes me think poor level design. But over all its a really fun game.

Brotherhood is one of the best. You can can probably skip Revelations.

Revelations is just Brotherhood 1.1. Thing I hate about Revelations is there's only one big revelation and it's not even in the game, it's in the DLC. Instead of putting yourself through that just let me know and I'll PM it to you.

Trying out some FTL mods. FTL:Infinity seemed a bit too hard for my casual approach, will try it again later. FTL: Captain's Edition is proving to be quite a bit of fun. Pretty standard FTL, but with lots of extra weapons, enemy ships, events, and so on. Its still the same game (unlike Infinity, which takes away the race and is more about efficiently upgrading your ship so you don't get left behind as you advance zones), but with more stuff going on. Even space stations, which are a modified ship encounter etc.

It's quite fun, probably a lot like the new XCOM expansion, adds just enough new stuff and tweaks gameplay enough to be worth playing through again.

The first two Fallout games had character oozing from every orifice. They managed to make games where your choices mattered, and you had fun making the choices one way or another.
I loved games that gave you the freedom to lose them. Something that has been sorely lacking in recent years. I still remember being a smug little thirteen year old, stomping around the wasteland looking for a water purification chip. I'd wander into some town where the kids would flock up and start picking my pockets of caps. You could be the bigger man and move on, or you could unload with your gatling laser and blow those snots into chunks of steaming meat. It was a choice with consequences, because if you killed enough people you couldn't win the game. You could kill merchants and steal their gak; but then there wouldn't be a merchant in that town. It was seriously mind blowing.

Keep in mind that RPGs weren't then what they are now. Back then there had been a spate of RPGs that had died down, and around that time almost every RPG being made was being made in Japan. I'd played like Betrayal at Krondor, Daggerfall, and Ultima IV and VII. Every other RPG I'd seen was a Japanese RPG where the protagonists had long, strangely colored hair, were more or less directed down a single linear path, and spent hours grinding levels to mediocre music. Then Fallout came along, with absolutely beautiful graphics, and amazing setting, tone, and characters. It was revolutionary and mind blowing. They made a seriously awesome game without taking themselves too seriously, which was effectively different than anything I'd ever played before.

I think it might be the same thing with the older Deus Ex games. I got the first or second one in a "buy everything company x makes and sells on steam, sure you won't play most of them but then again they're almost free at this point...etc" bundles. I realize that it was supposed to be revolutionary for it's time, but I just have trouble going back and getting wowed. All of the stuff it may or may not have come up with, has been in games since then for years. I'm not knocking anyone's cherished memories or positive nostalgia factories, I honestly wish I had been there for it. I usually miss such boats, like when a game first comes out and there's a lot of multiplayer going on? Or I'll do a beta and it'll suck so I'll stop signing up and then I'll miss out on the beta for something I'd really like to have been in on from the ground level.

I remember the old PC Oregon trail... now there's a game that wasn't half afraid to kill you (and your entire family!) to death! Part of why I like FTL, in many ways it is the spiritual successor of Oregon trail, oregon trail in space... Orion Trail... There we go.

Oh well, picked up the "everything we made for the first dragons age game" game when it was on steam sale. Figure it's worth a shot. After I get done being annoyed at having to retrieve my password for origin to log into an account to handle DRM to play a game that I've already voluntarily DRMed for them by getting it on steam in the first friggen place, I will see if that's any fun.

Still waiting semi-patiently for BG2:EE around xmastime. There's my nostalgia factory right there.

I very much agree that it was a time and place thing. I can go back and enjoy games I played as a kid; Fallout, XCOM, Baldur's Gate, et cetera. But new games with crap graphics and poor controls aren't going to draw me in in the same way. Like Wasteland with the same inventory system as Fallout would just bug me.

It was the freedom of choice and the awesome wit/style/humor that really defined the games and were the necessary foundations for a new iteration which many fans of the originals found lacking in 3.

Imagine a talented musician who happened to play an amazing improvised composition - that was Fallout 1 and 2. Then a technically brilliant musician played a composition based on that but without the same spirit and soul - that was Fallout 3. New Vegas is a little more complex and open to interpretation.

To be fair, I grew up with the old ones. IMO bethesda completely failed in capturing the originals atmosphere, the bug laden crapfest didn't help.

New Vegas was a little closer than 3 but you are right its just not the same. Much of the character of the games has been lost.

Nostalga does help somewhat. Sometimes its hard to go back to an older game however classic it is if you haven't played it at least once before.

Dragon Age Origins is a cracking game. Sadly my hard drive corrupted when I was 5 mins away from the final boss so I am staying away from it for a while.

There are several games I've never beaten due to similar apathy. Friend moved away with half of my xenogears and I never finished it even though I was close, etc.

Dragons age has been interesting for the first hour I've played it. We'll see how it goes.

I liked some of the gameplay features of new Vegas.. but I think I preferred the capital wasteland as a setting. Same with sky rim, would love to play oblivion with the engine and features of skyrim, though the custom spell bit was fun.

If they remade Daggerfall with a modern interface and graphics, it would be the best game ever.

Nah- Daggerfall was too big. Watered the story and character down too much. Morrowind, I think, was the Magnum Opus (at least for now) of the Elder Scrolls series. Still a massive landscape, but small enough that you could eventually just travel across it on foot- so you got more of the experience of actually being there (instead of a loading screen and 'boop!' you're there! that fast travel is). Heck, even the fast travel was immersive, as it was either teleports, or ferries, or silt striders!

It was a unique environment and setting- the Roman and WRPG-esque buildings and mannerisms of the Imperials, just plopped down among giant mushrooms and ash dunes... The environments varied naturally but extremely- you actually felt like you were in humid swamplands down near Ebonheart, and the snowy wastes of Solstheim up north were chillingly cold.

Everyone had a backstory. A name. A home. An opinion on you and what was going on around them. The random quests you'd stumble on, the way the Main Quest worked to introduce you to side-quest options without forcing you to go there...

It didn't hold your hand at all. If you ventured into the Ash Wastes at level 1, your pixels were pancaked by an Astorath or Winged Twilight before you knew what was happening. Even the rats were difficult at the start! And the Cliff Racers... Any game that can make you actually HATE one of the made up in world digital animal species is a game that deserves more than Morrowind got.

And the utter, complete freedom. There were no scripted events. There was no required quests or guilds. If you wanted to, you could get off the boat at Seyda Neen and spend the rest of your gameplay time as a beggar stealing bread from people's houses and stowing it in caves. The spells you bought were more like, suggestions, than guides to actual spellmaking- I made a spell that was Touch Targeted electric damage for 5 points in 50 Yards of my target. It didn't do bupkiss to kill things, but if I wanted to piss off the entire population of a small village, by golly I could. You could combine Restoration effects on self with Destruction effects on target. You could enchant everything you wore with Target or Touch or Activate spells- you could put Constant Effect spells on weapons, or make a bow that summoned a better bow, or...

Well, *ahem*, you get the picture.

Morrowind, updated, with physics-based weapon-play, would be best.

You should look up Skywind if you haven't already, I think its just aesthetics right now but it seems to be related to your dream game.

So I downloaded a Translated Rom of Shin Megami Tensei (translated to Digital Devil Story, which is a precursor of sorts to the Persona series). Now coming from a RPG background like Fallout 1&2 and Deus Ex, I am used to a game like that giving me free reign how to play or how to go about it.

But wow, they just throw you into the thick of things with as very little information or goal as possible (even less than Fallout or Deus Ex). Not that I mind, I am enjoying the game so far, although random encounters popping every inch or so can get annoying (a gripe of mine with JRPGS)....

I seen Skywind. Was actually considering lending my voice to their voiceovers. Thing is, I HATE fully voiced RPGs. I read about 5 or 6 times faster than anyone in these things speaks, it's annoying to read the subtitles and keep skipping through the voice files, and there's NEVER as much information, exposition, or as many conversation options in voiced games as there are in ones that just have written screens. That, actually, is probably what most killed my immersion in Oblivion and Skyrim, ironically. I'd rather read through the 10 paragraphs of unique, nuanced dialogue and imagine a voice based on a snippet of greeting than wait for the 5th Orc with the same frikkin voice to tell me the name of the mine I'm in, and nothing else.

Ahh, yeah it's early access. So like wave 1 beta. But you can buy AND play it now. Not at 100% functionality though, so maybe you already knew that and actually wanted the release date. If that's the case, whoops sorry.

Cheaper how? Looks like $15, although they do seem to toss you the soundtrack under that on the website, believe that costs $5 on steam. Something else I missed? I am a cheapskate so it's good to know these things

$15 dollars translates to roughly £9.50 gbp. The game is £11.99 on steam or $15 dollars on the website.

Darksiders 2, i quite enjoyed the first game, especially after you bought a few extra moves instead of just mashing the X button and the puzzles were surprisingly involved. This game is equally enjoyable but i actually feel the combat has gone too deep this time.

Although the Overall difficulty of the game is fairly low and i enjoy the combat on the whole, i find it hard to feel empowered. Death always seems to take hits during fights and the counter attack mechanic requires the timing and reactions of a master magician, as far as i recall landing a counter in Ninja Gaiden 2 was difficult but not this difficult. Also using the launcher and juggling an enemy almost always means anybody on the ground can get a free hit when you land, unless you get lucky with the splash damage of the downswing.

I also feel the camera is a little flakey in addition to Death's ability to hit targets outside of Lock-on. The game seems to want you to lock on; You gain access to some of the more powerful moves and get unlimited dodges (If you spam dodges outside of lock-on Death falters for a second or two after the third or fourth in a row). However Lock-on leaves you completely open to attacks from the peripheries and does weird things to the movement/camera controls.

Something that is surprisingly satisfying is the platforming. Although it is similar to the sticky ledges of, say, Uncharted it does feel more involved. In the Uncharted series i found that if i just mashed the jump button i could get through most of the traversal segments. in DS2 Death will often do things you don't want him to if you mash A (like wall-run into a pit or wall-jump into lava), so you have to be far more methodical.

Trying to get better at super street fighter 4. Could really do with a training buddy.

I play on PC and someone from EU would obviously be preferable for latency reasons.

Though I am considering picking it up for 360 as well.

Been playing the new Tomb Raider, and as someone that disliked pretty much every offering of that series since its inception, this game has been almost a thousand times better. My only concerns were a few life or death quick time events (which I think are fairly stupid to begin with), the really well done survivalist aspect of the game that has no bearing on you once you get going, and a strange jump in difficulty at about the halfway point of the game. This game is really cool though. I've been borrowing it from a buddy, but I may go out and buy it just so I can do the extras of the game.

Also, since Borderlands 2 is free for PS+ members atm, I downloaded that and I've been playing it with a buddy of mine. I'm beginning to think the only way I'll enjoy that series is if I don't pay for the game and if I have people to consistently play with.

I started playing Rainbow Six: Vegas. Well, it was alright. Glad it was a free download through my XBL Gold membership

And speaking of XBL, their game store has been having some great deals on games lately. I bought Beyond Good and Evil HD for less than $3. Pretty pumped to get that deal.

I could never get into Fallout 3; started playing it a few times but was never able to stick with it like I could do with Skyrim. But on Thursday I got Fallout: New Vegas and man, I'm hooked! I think the thing that mostly put me off 3 was the pseudo-50's style, and while it's still prevalent in New Vegas it just seems more toned down and I find I'm able to enjoy it more.

That's interesting Tibbsy, I actually don't care as much for the style of new vegas (but I do like the more people sometimes). Much as I would rather play Oblivion with Skyrim's engine, I'd like to play fallout3 with the improvements made by new vegas... weapon mods and all of that. I'm allergic to cowboys and western stuff for some reason
