And this is - I think - the big take away. You guys do great work. We just rather see it be put to work elsewhere.
A suggestion? The new DE. The Archon is coming out as one metal figure. Some conversion is possible with the arms, but not much.
Alternate heads would be amazing, as would alternate bodies that looked "Lordly" that could be used on the DE plastic warrior/wych legs.
If there's a way for you to get a hold of the pieces early, those would be INSTANT money makers.
Or - of course - some of my standard suggestions for any company that makes resin figures/conversion pieces:
- New Eldar Autrarch bodies or arms. Would love to see a group of interchangeable parts
- Combi-weapon kit if you can make it cheaply. Combi-meltas out the wah-zoo. The current price for 1 is something like $8US? So I imagine there's a decent profit there.
- IG Artillery kits
- IG Psyker BS conversion pieces. Staves with eagles on them... bald heads with deep bags under their eyes... Maybe make them to work with the Flagellant box?
- Tervigon Kit? I hear the other option is not stellar
- Tyrannofex kit
- Better warrior-wings to make shrikes

And don't forget, GW is always low on female models like
- female IG
- female Eldar farseer
- female Firewarriors
then
- hot jetbikes for Eldar and DE bosses
- Alien monsters
- terrain (esp. for Xenos)

Maxmini cannot do female guard and fire warriors without pushing the limit regarding GW's IP.
Plus; female Tau don't look too different from the males, so sayeth Fire Warrior. I'd use normal plastics with the addition of a demonette head with a converted female tau 'breathing hole', like Doghouse did.
And with female guard, they can only really do female soldiers, or female heads like Micro Art Studio. Though female soldiers in proper gear in general are lacking, and they should have a go at them for sure.
Chapter House did a female farseer, and hot jetbikes for eldar can be converted from the new Dark Eldar jet bikes pretty easily via a rider and hood swap.
Though, 40k looking terrain and random alien monsters are lacking.
I suggest making power armoured humans, human sized boltgun look alikes, maybe enforcer gear (shields, power mauls, robot doggies, etc) and perhaps legs to convert Cadians into greatcoaters.

In order:
- Completely disagree, female soldiers would be FURTHER from GW IP, not closer or over the line
- True.
- Oh, so you agree with me.
- Chapterhouse's attempts were poor, and I'd much rather see a real resin kit for character jetbikes done by a better sculptor.
- Completely agree about terrain.
- Really? Why? I'm just curious since there's no rules to use them for. Wouldn't you rather have miniatures with a use? And still with the greatcoats? I think I'm the only IG player not hot for guys in trench-coats.

I would definitely, positively buy female heads that were appropriately sized for SM scouts and PA marines, if they were well done. They so far have not been. Please no references to Captain Thunder or whoever that is, and the foolish "wimmens can't be mahreens" is offtopic, so I won't fire that up, other then to reiterate there is very much an unserved market here.

I'm not a big fan of the wolf I'm afraid. The back legs are too small which makes it look odd. (I'm a fan of maxmini and have bought quite a few things from them btw!).
The best wolf mounts I've seen are done by www.mythicast.com
As for my wish list:
Larger 'heads' for the GW plastic venerable dreadnought kit, that fit in the plastic kit but match the Forgeworld Mk4 dreadnought heads in size. The current "tiny head" look of the plastic kit bugs the hell out of me!
Primarch-scale legs and arms. Making the torso is relatively easy, but arms and legs would make conversions a lot easier. Two sets would be good - one more slender artificer version (Fulgrim, Sanguinius...) and one heavier (Dorn, Perturabo...).

So after the "But GW won't allow it" reflex, you finally contradict yourself and see the potential.
1.) Of course GW has no IP on female heads, female soldiers and female soldiers with body armour. That's why there are several non GW products in that direction, e.g. Tin Bits conversion set, one Starship Trooper unit, Shadowforge female jungle fghters etc. But Maxmini is better known currently and could sell more.
2.) You realize yourself that female looking (upper and lower) bodies of Grey Aliens or humanoids without noses are not covered by GW IP (you even state that GW seems to know no female Tau bodies differing from the current generic ones). Even the Tau helmet was "borrowed" almost exactly from an old SciFi illustration (posted somewhere on Dakka). No need to copy the Tau symbol to make good miniatures fitting a Tau army. Hey, manga fans among Tau players would DIE for a cute catgirl unit which is fluffy (pun intended ) and safe from any IP breach.
3.) Concerning jetbikes: There is always room for variety and different designs. Have a look at Star Wars or these by Anteciti's Workshop http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/gbu0-catshow/gotvehicles.html (also an insider tip lesser known than Maxmini):

1) When I refer to 'female guard' and 'female tau' I am referring to complete carbon copies of the male models, but female. Which would be infringing on IP. However, as I said before; I do think there needs to be more female troops in proper gear. And I also think that making female soldiers that look very similar to the current guard is passable. As is making a kit compatible with the GW kits. For example, a kit that gives legs and arms compatible with the Cadian flak armour plastic torso, and a head that can take the spare helmet you get on Cadian sprue. Catachans though are free reign as long as their weapons aren’t carbon copies. GW can’t really own the IP for vests, trousers and bandannas... 2) Already covered this. Helmeted female Fire Warriors look no different from the males as they have near the same body shape. Changing it and you aren't really making female tau. Heck, I like it that female Tau don't look the same as every other race's gals. It makes them less human and more tau. Though, I can break on female tau heads. Also, anyone that thinks catgirls need to be in 40k needs to be hit. With a cricket bat. Repeatedly. 3) You said 'hot jetbikes for Eldar'. Not 'hot generic scifi jetbikes'. poipo32 wrote:Female heads for IG aren't there either. I never said they were. I was referring to this in that post; http://www.shop.microartstudio.com/women-heads-p-360.html And yes, I just looked into Chapterhouse's attempts into a little more detail, and I agree, it is piss poor. Maxmini should do something to replace them. My bad. And regarding my suggestions. Human sized power armour would make decent Inquisitors and put an end to tiny bearded heads on giant space marine bodies. And great coat legs? It has been years since there was first a demand to convert ordinary plastic troops into great coaters, and it was never fulfilled. The only company that has even come close was Wargames Factory, and with them you still have to buy two entire kits for every squad or get a hold of tons of lasgun arms, which would take ages to acquire for an entire army if you are starting out. The only other options includes buying expensive metal Steel Legionnaires, buying expensive resin Death Korps or buying loads of command squad officer legs, which would take years doing it for an army off bitz services and ebay. I think that if these chaps produced great coat legs, they’d sell like hotcakes.

1) You don't want female Tau at all. You just want boobed blue animes.
Go to the Thunder corner.
2: Using Pig Iron Greatcoats for Guard suffers the same problem as Wargame Factory Greatcoats, except they are metal. And like Wargame Factory, the details are really choppy. I happen to have a few Pig Iron troops (I got the missile team for the launcher), so I can tell you first hand that is the case.

The first of these companies to make a grimdark scifi female trooper kit with multiple heads, torsos and so on, to a 28mm heroic size, with options for special weapons/officers, that looks good... will be wealthy indeed.
I am continually surprised that whilst the indy companies want to skate ice around things like jetbikes for warlocks etc, they don't just bite the bloody bullet and force themselves to make a really good female space trooper, a'la Imperias Guardians...

hell yeah - that's a damn cool and inspiring discussion !
some of the ideas suggested are already in the works (some for quite a time).
@MeanGreenStompa: I think the problem is that female sculpts have to be excpetionally well done. Otherwise they end up kinda "meh" . The other problem lies in making interchanable kit. Surprisingly few sculptors can do that well.
And here's an update on siege gun:
Raised trench style covers are ready - now we only need to add some smal details like handles and the kit will be ready.
And as a side note - I've just added grenade launchers to the webstore. Need to make new pics of the set though .

As for suggestions, instead of satisfying the fetishes of a few for big breasted grey aliens, how about some cool stuff like heads with military berets, heads with scifi targeters/googles, automatic grenade machine guns, and a dedicated set of heads with bionics.

My votes would be for (and I have mentioned this before to our good friends at maxmini) baseline bald heads, ones without giants screamy faces or I just pooped my pants looks, and more subdued, but still tough looking looks. No scars, bionics or any of the rest.
This would be for the sculpting crowd, I really think most people could apply whatever hair they want to the baseline heads, making for a very open-ended market on them. I would certainly love a few of maxmini quality to play with.
Next up would probably be a set of cadian compatible greatcoat legs, and finally some protoss styled psi-blade themed lightnight claw stand-ins for both marines and terms.
Hell, why not throw an alternate Dreadnaught torso (preferably of the non-walking dishwasher design, maybe something more pre-heresy or conversly advanced looking??)
btw the trench and siege gun look incredible!

I would like to see some nice colonial marine torsos, maybe 3-4 with the basic clam shell armor each with different doodads on them (shotgun on the back, dog tags hanging out, motion tracker hanging from the neck, etc.) and maybe one with softer armor for a heavy gunner.
With so many aliens conversions for tyranids and the plethora of pulse rifles recently, I'm jonesin' to make a colonial marine army. But lack of suitable armor is holding me back.

I'm in the 'States. I don't recall exactly how long it took, but it was on the order of a couple of months. That said, Przemas did say that they had a problem with a batch of orders not being stamped "priority" (or something like that in Polish) by the Polish postal service and mine was in that batch, so my understanding is that my case was unusual.
And, again, they were very responsive to emails and the quality of the product is very, very high. I would not hesitate to order from them again (and almost certainly will once I rebuild my gaming "slush fund" a bit)...

I'm going to have to make a SIGNIFICANT (Read multiple hundreds of dollars) to get restarted with supplies. I have my tools, but no paint, glue or brushes, and codexs, plus the main rulebook. Add to the fact that I'm going to want to drop the coin on getting a full GK army when they come out.

Major, hate to tell you this...but Forgeworld is one HELL of a lot cheaper for the arms to make a Dread armed with quad-autocannons. $23 AUD plus postage for the Forgeworld arms (which are effortless - no conversion required), versus AUD$37.50 plus postage (plus the effort to mount them.)
Definitely works out cheaper versus the FW Hydra kit, but for Dreads...forget it.

Yeah. I generally draw the line myself at FW prices. This third party option is more expensive than, and likely less high quality than, FW? That's generally gonna be a no go.
123
Post by: Alpharius
Well, the price is the price, but I can say via personal experience that Maxmini stuff is usually BETTER quality than FW.
Far few mold lines and flash problems, and the resin the use is easier to work with...

well, it's actually cheaper than similar FW kit .....
As for quality - we work hard to offer one of the best resin casts in this hobby.
but agree, it would be rather expensive as a dread version.
In generall - vote with your wallet. We do our best to offer competitive prices but high quality resin kits simply can't be cheap due to the work involved (and I might also mention retailer discounts...) .
I understand your perspective (I'm a gamer too), but trust me - from the other side our hobby looks rather cheap.

it does use an aweful lot of resin for the middle, but I agree, wish I could justify buying a few, but not happening XD
I will 3rd the need for just a collection of generic servo bits, if intelligently done they could be mix and match base/arms/ends so you could put them together however you want.

BTW - we improved shipping. That was one of the things I really wanted to got better. Not that there was something wrong, but the delivery times sometimes were longer than expected. So we've added fast trackable courier.
But regular shipping got better too. We' ve struggled to get a deal with postal company and it worked. I've been monitoring delivery times for the past 3 weeks and the times noticeably improved. Oh, and it has a sort of tracking as well (well, not as good as a courier one, but still gives you a hint where the package is).
Heck, and even though it's snowing as hell out here, the work in our workshop keeps the full pace. Got the mold for miniguns ready so they should be out soon. Hamster upgaded one of the old sets - I'll show you better version during the weekend (need to take pics).

Just got 2 of the AA turrets which are currently being put into use on two Hydra Flak Tanks I'm building.
Took 2 weeks from the data I ordered to receive them, all pieces were there, took a very minimal amount of cleaning, and the "worst" thing I can say I found was a minor warping (not 100% straight) on one or two of the barrels. This is a minor detail and is hardly noticeable. I plan on trying to use some hot water/bit of heat to straighten them out, but if not, they're still useable for sure.
Edit: I also want to note that given the things I've received/seen from FW, I'm incredibly impressed with the quality of the resin casting and minimal flash. I posted the minor detail just to be thorough, but don't confuse, I'll use maxmini over FW whenever I can.
Excellent quality, fast shipping (given the season and them traveling from Poland to Maryland) and nice service, I'll be back again!

I'm happy to finally share something I've wanted to get done for some time. IMO old jump packs needed some update, new variants. Took way longer than expected but here are first WIPs.
Those basic shapes (even though they don't look anything like basic, don't you think ? )have been made by Hamster52 and were sent to FreakForge who is going to give them final touch.

I have a request!
Since you're stuff is so great, I'd love to see you make some "cadian" great coat legs. Just the lower half with the bottom of the great coats & boots, that would match up with a cadian torso. Like, just extending the bottom of the tunics they have so it goes all the way down. Similar to the 1 set of legs that comes in the Cadian command squad box.
You can make em generic looking enough to not suffer the same fate as Chapterhouse, and maybe make your own body armor torsos later that could match too. I know I'd buy a bunch and considering how many folks are always saying they want affordable great coat guardsmen, this I'm sure you'd sell quite a bit.

This saved Hamster52 lots of time - he sculpted basic torso shape and then assembled the piece.

That's one of the things we're thinking about for quite a time. We did a couple of tries and we came to conclusion that this idea needs a complete set. I would think its a gap in the market (not that I've looked in to it that much) the lack of replacement legs. I bought myself some Forge World Renegade Militia and now have a load of left over Cadian torsos...and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

well, those are of course first test casts I did - I was so happy with what I received I simply had to work on mould as soon as possible .
I hope you'll be able to see next sets sculpted by Ian Mountain soon .
Of course I couldn't resist checking how they'll work with the recently released torsos :

Beret heads are nice and all, the sculpts are gorgeous...
But there's so many companies out there doing them.
Forage caps or boonie hats would be much more welcome!

Exactly. Why not start with something that looks cool and is relatively unproduced(forage caps)?

I don't see where the exactly comes from lol, he was disagreeing with you.
There is always going to be a market for better quality. That goes for anything. No one is forcing anyone to buy them bud, but likewise I don't see why anyone would disapprove of a product that is clearly better than everything else available, or, even if you wouldn't go that far, then at least upper tier quality.
This morning you woke up with melty - faced beret heads you didn't have to buy. Tonight you go to bed with tightly sculpted beret heads you don't have to buy. Really no harm done. But for those interested, they will be happy.
Maxmini will eventually get to the other head styles I am sure, but being disgruntled they chose to do these first doesn't accomplish much IMO

Hey Przemas - the beret heads look great. And forage caps or boonie caps would also be terrfic. But there's a number of us that commented in Victoria Lamb's sculpting thread that would be clamoring for some ANZAC/Chindit-style heads as well.

Any hope you might make some modern day infantry helmet heads? Something more along the lines of the old Cadians or the current USMC helmet? Sure Cadain heads are similar, but so god awful IMHO.

I love this line so hard. Every bit as hard as the idea of going to bed with tightly sculpted beret heads instead of melty faced beret heads.
Those really are awesome heads. Having 10 different ones in total would be really nice for squads. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, tonight I'd like to take my tightly sculpted heads to bed after we dine... IN HELL!!

any chance of seeing a size comparison with these torsos with arms or kegs form other mini rangers?
the other only issue i see with these is that the blts are moulded onto the torso and unfortunately the majority of other ranges have belts moulded onto the legs.... this is a massive pain in the arse. I take it there is no chance of having one without the bottom belt of the combat harness on it.

Very nice heads. I don't think I'd buy these as I'm not a Guard player, and I think they'd look off on anything else (but great on Guard!) but I'll put my 2 cents in: I would absolutely buy heads of this skill with boonie hats and similar. It's nice to have heads that aren't a.) bare\bald and b.) screaming.

A quick update. Here's one of the test casts of the Immortal (4 arms beast) - we'll use them to make proper joints, without gaps and so on:
Worm is undergoing identical process.
I've cut production moulds for commando heads - so I'd say it will take 2 weeks tops before they'll be ready for release (that being said I'll do my best to have them released within a week ).

Hey guys.
I just wanted to say I made a big order with Maximini a few weeks ago. After mabye 2 weeks I shot them an email asking for an update on my order.
Przemek emailed me back letting me know my order was taking a bit long because of the size of it. For my extra waiting time he was going to trow in some extra stuff.
I emailed him back telling him thanks but it wasnt necesary, I knew my order was a big one and would probably take extra time. I was just wanted to be kept up to date if it wasnt much trouble.
Well I got my order from them today and everything looks great(this is the first time I have actually had their stuff in my hands). Going through my order making sure its correct I find that he had still given me a few bounus peices.
I got a sprue of these new guard armoed torsos, the hand held minigun and a full AA(ie Hydra) Turret kit.
WOW Awsome.
I have been contenplating building a guard army and now with this free hydra bit and the look of the new torsos, I think I just might. Need to spend some time with armybuilder and work out my list. then place another large order with these guys.
I know this isnt really relevant on what their new releases are, but I wanted to say how happy I am with this company and their products.

My combat torsos came yesterday morning. I ordered on Feb 2nd and they were delivered Feb 15th: this is substantially less time then I would have expected, and is far and away the fastest order I've gotten so far. I'm very pleased with the turnaround time, which is about twice as fast as Forge World.
Here are some pictures of a scout wearing a combat torso, in case anyone wanted a size reference. I feel they are maybe a hair small for marines, but doable. I think they would be absolutely perfect for cadians\catachans.
Still hoping for boonie hat wearing heads, and female heads!

Don't really see a need for this.
However, having said that... I feel that equipment to add to existing legs would be a better road to go. New holsters, drop pouches, leg platforms ect ect.

Oh I will not argue that there is indeed a gap in quality leg products on the market, however most modern army's elite units use pretty much your standard cargo pants and combat boots (in various colors and forms)

Commando heads will have a slight delay with release. You can't imagine how pissed I was when I returned home and discovered that all pics of them I've taken are crap. I will redo photos on Monday.
But there's some really good news. Recently I've been contacted by Maxime Pastourel - a super friendly and very talented fella. It has turned out that he's a beast when it comes to designing stuff (damn, and his armies are simply insane). Here are pics of the first items he's working on:
First he did a basic shape (shown on the left), cast it and started building some different versions on those casts.
He also started working on a set of gothic backpacks. Got to admit I was damn impressed when I saw first sketches:

Rather nice.
... but IMHO the eyes are too far away from each other.
Makes them look cartoonish instead of cool.
I have looked at pictures of real gas masks and they do have similar distance between the eye sockets - but with lot more glass.
These gas masks have large rims with really small lenses making them feel more like goggles on harsh environment masks - which on the other hand is cool.
This said, goggles should be closer to the centre of the face (as the eyes must be centered in the lenses - in opposite to normal gas mask lenses).
I hope the final versions will have the "goggle pieces" touching each other in the middle (above the nose) ala normal binoculars - or bigger "glass" areas.
Also, the tiny holes in the mouth filter of the green eyed face will probably be hard to cast.
