Wow, those all look very, very cool. Again impressed with stuff coming out of MaxMini.
kendoka wrote:These gas masks have large rims with really small lenses making them feel more like goggles on harsh environment masks - which on the other hand is cool.
This said, goggles should be closer to the centre of the face (as the eyes must be centered in the lenses - in opposite to normal gas mask lenses).
I hope the final versions will have the "goggle pieces" touching each other in the middle (above the nose) ala normal binoculars - or bigger "glass" areas.
I agree with most of this, but it doesn't ruin the models for me. They might be better if the eyes were slightly closer together, but it doesn't look as awkward as it would if a human face were disproportioned, and they seem to match similar styles on some Plague Marine heads.
I would still happily buy them either way.

Glad you like those in general - thx for the comments.
As for biohazard helmets - even though it hasn't struck me when I looked at them I can see your point Kendoka. But IMO if they were closer on such wide helmet IMO they would look awkwards as well , at the same time loosing the strange tech look. I'd simply assume that those are not goggles but some sort of sensors that collect data and dsiplay image on a screen in the helmets / directly on the eyes of the wearer.
But getting back to new releases. I'm still not happy with the photos but I couldn't stand further delay on commando heads so here they are:
Luckily tomorrow a fellow photographer should visit our studio and will re-do the photos (and he'll take pics of the painted ones as well )

Maxime "morbäck" Pastourel has sent me an update on the project:

In a meantime Robert Kurek has finished working on a fun project - zombie haeds. Braaaaaiinsss!
I should have those in a webstore in 3 weeks time .

Just got the package with the bits from Maxime. Biohazard heads and gothic backpack are even better than on pic. Heads are going straight to molding , while we'll upgrade the backpacks slightly (correct the angles etc).
Anzac heads returned from some gentle facelifting (in this case it should be called rather "hat-lifting" ). If all goes well I'll be able to make master molds tomorrow and add them to the webstore during the weekend.

well that's not true. The new jump packs are not old ones redone - they're completely 2 new designs . But yeah, old ones were a source of inspiration - I looked back and thought we can do it better .

Having not seen all of the jump packs you're planning (being as they aren't finished and all), I can't speak as to whether any of the detailing will spark my interest or not. I can say, however, that I love the initial pics you put up prior to the added iconography. I already have plans for a squad. While the detailing may be easy to remove, you may sell more if you offer a variety with no iconography (or at least show some pics without it on the site). Having an army rather devoid of such extravagances, they're a bit of a turn-off for me, but that's me. Others will love them, I'm sure, though I'm completely willing and able to cut and file to meet whatever image I have in my head.
Can't wait until you get them released! You can definitely put me down for at least 10, though I won't know what sort until they're finished.
I also offer the suggestion to make them available in groups of 5 (mixed or selected) as well as offering each design as a single. The reason for this is that some may want a specialized jump pack for a character but may not want to buy 5 of them. Just an idea.

Ooh, and just a bit of wishlisting, but can you guys do one design with a gear pattern ala techmarine. I know that it's difficult with IP laws and all, but anything that looks a little steampunk-ish would work for me. It'd go great with the steampunk weapons, steam knight heads, and bionic bits that you already have. If you could also do some steampunk-like torsos compatible with space marines and maybe a backpack or two with some mechanical arms, we'd be set! Iron Hands, Iron Warriors, and anyone looking to make some unique techmarines would love you for it.

Przemas will be able to answer for sure of course, but in my experience dealing with maxmini, they're willing to do exactly that the majority of the time. For example on their weapons of various styles, you can typically choose (if it's a set of 5) for all 5 to be style 1, rather than a mix. You just have to let them know beforehand.
Heads look quite nice as the others have said, I'd like to see scale, maybe a photo next to a guardsmen or marine you have laying around? (Not sure about the "legalities" of that, it seems so touchy as of late!)

The biohazard heads look great. Bummer they are marine scale. I could have used a bunch if they were more compatible with Guard.
Przemas, I see I'm not the only one wishing they were more human sized. Any chance you might consider something similar to the biohazard heads in human scale? I personally would be using them for Necromunda, but I'm sure they'd be a bigger hit for renegade guard players!

Just not sure about the size as the description says they are for the "bulkier" 28mm mdels. My intention was to mount them in place of one of the exhause vents on a SM backpack. Do you think they woudl be too big?
Also, the description says a random selection of 5 arms. Wuodl it be a mix of the 3 pictured or are there more designs in the set?

In my experience it means if you don't specify, they send you 5 arms, which are a mix of the 3 styles. But I've always been able to contact and specifically request a certain makeup (ie, 4 of a and 1 of c) type of thing.

ive got a set and used them plastic chaos spawn for my iron warriors. The arms are too big for marines but they could be cut down since resin is easy to trim. The details are great and i love the claw hand and the chain saw hand. Overall the design is better suited to ork nobz and chaos marines.

@Ruyn: sure - simply write which ones you'd like to get in the comments field before checkout (thx targetawg)
@Captain Jack: we'll have those on Salute . The plan is to have complete range with us along with some new , pre-release stuff.
@Boomer: If I somehow get some time in the next couple of days to work out production mould zombie heads should be out next week.
@Praxxis: they may be a tad too big for an arm replacement on a regular "human" model, but IMO they can be ok for your purpose .
In the blister you'll find mix of those 3 designs (note that custom orders are not possible with Kromlech bits)
Just to relax a tad I'm trying to slap some paint on the Biohazard Heads (even though I've sent a batch to Olekkk to work out "official" paintjob).

I was very excited to receive a package in the mail from Poland yesterday with my ANZAC heads. I was able to break into them this morning and try some test fits.
First, a couple notes on the heads:
1) The heads came off the sprue very easily - I thought I might have to use an exacto or razor saw at first, but I was actually able to just twist them off with my fingers.
2) I know others have mentioned this in their reviews of MaxMini's models, but I figured it's worth reiterating - there was very little flash or mold lines on the heads. Everything was very clean, requiring only a little cleanup.
3) The hat brims seem fragile, but this is a necessary weakness to get them to look right. With a little care, you can trim the neck down to fit GW's IG plastics without hurting the hats - just be careful about it.
4) The package arrived quickly after I'd ordered it. I was particularly impressed by this as I've had orders from Canada and the UK take longer than it took to ship from Poland.
Anyway, here are the heads test fit with some blutac on a couple Cadian bodies and a couple Catachan bodies.
The heads are a good fit for the Cadian bodies. The neck requires trimming down some to fit, but the proportions work fairly well with the rest of the body. They're a little on the slim side, but GW's Cadian and Catachan heads are pretty blocky. This gives the guys a slender look.
The heads are a little small compared to their hands, but that's more GW's fault than MaxMini's as that's just the proportions they use (Gorilla Hand HE Spearmen? Gorilla Hand Skaven Clan Rats?)
On the Catachans, the thin nature of the heads look more disproportionate, but still less so than the West Wind SoTR heads I've tried on Catachans in the past.
I think these can work with the Catachan bodies (and I plan on making them work), but they'll require building up the neck a little with GS so they don't seem to be wearing padded fake-muscle suits with a pencil-neck.
"That's not a knife, this is a knife."
My only gripe about the ANZAC heads is that the faces bear somewhat of a resemblance to Paul Hogan, of Crocodile Dundee fame - and not young, fit Paul Hogan - more like old, leathery, weather-beaten Paul Hogan. And don't get me wrong, I can work with leathery and weather-beaten. It works for a Guard army. But just as MaxMini worked hard to have a few subtly different hat styles, it would've been nice to have a little more variation in the faces/expressions.
All-in-all, great kit. I highly recommend it and I look forward to filling out my IG with more of them.

These are the ones that maxMini sell and apparently shoudl work ok on SM backpacks:
It's shame that there are only 3 varieties but it's better than what GW are offering. in game terms i woudlbe happy mountign those on the packs of my Lord/Asp. Champion and callgin it a power weapons (just put a knife or auspex in the models hand instead)

A little small and not quite what I'm looking for. More looking for a powerclaw type attachement witht he lenght of a standard servo arm. Thos are a bit short to reach over your shoulder and into combat, especially the chainsaw one.
Heck, a power claw for a SM would be cool, and workable. Just attach it onto the existing end.

Have a look at the other options on the MaxMini site. there are some power klaw looking things on there but i think they would be more suited to an arm replacement rather than a servo-arm.

@Boomer: sadly you'll have to wait a tad more. Rush before Salute forced me to delay release of zombie heads.
But now to good news.
Last year's Salute was a blast for us (thx goes to whole South London Warlords team for organizing it) so it would be a shame to miss it this year .
Yesterday, around midnight we've finshed preparing last boxes with goodies and I can finally confirm some of the things we'll have with us.
First of all our entire product range will be available during the event. But to spice things up we'll have some of pre-release stuff:
- barricades (set of 6 different pieces)
- Immortal (the 4-arms monster sculpted by Adam Grabowski)
- zombie heads
There will be a number of previews:
- gothic backpacks
- scrap tank (our first vehicle! YAY! There's a chance will have couple of copies for sale)
- Mechaworm
Our stand will be located exactly as in 2010 - stand TM07. Can't wait to see and meet some of you in person. So if by any chance you'll be Salute 2011 pop-in and say hello .

Hey, Przemas - what with producing your first vehicle, what would your thoughts be on producing some flyers? Either some WWII-esque brutes dragged kicking and screaming into the grimdark future and/or some sleek xenos craft?

Wow the scrap tank looks great! I hope its about leman russ size?? If your accepting ideas, ive got two. First a 'not ork' truck. The g.w plastic truck is nice but do i want six of them? Im sure you guys could make something the equal of what forge worlds makes. And my second idea is something like the sandcat from the movie 'pitch black' its a cool buggy/pick up. I think it would suit the steam punk / post apoc theme you guys do so well!

Second that motion! Something that might, say, be flown by evil space elves would be a hot seller for sure. If it could also be flwon by good space elves that would be even better.

@AgeofEgos, @Kid_Kyoto: I've been thinking about it but decided to make them without arms. I know that assembly on some minis may be tad more difficult this way (but not tricky at all - simple cut and a pin), but this way such weapon set is much more versatile.

Hope you haven't taken my comment seriously . I simply meant that before you're being actually charged anything PayPal informs you how much it will be.
I've been thinking about more currencies in the webstore , but the exchange rates are currently unstable and it would be a pain to keep the rates ok (I'd need to update them manually really often). Also note that the funds do not go straight to our bank account - they accumulate on PayPal. So 20 GBP this week may be something different 2 weeks later.
I want to get new webstore software and I'll remember to ask our web guru whether it would be possible for the webstore to show estimated cost in other currencies even though finally customer will be charged in EUR/USD . Hopefully that will help .

Post by: mullet_steve
those do look lovely and although the details are possibly a bit soft but I saw the rendering and it is probably completely in scale because the images looked awesome. maybe it's a trick of scaling the model down and the detail up? Have these been worked on after the rapid prototyping or are these raw from the shop?
7305
Post by: Przemas
the thing we've learned during this project is that when you make a 3d mesh you need to emphasize the details more. As you see much larger image on the monitor it often happens that something that looked overdone on a screen turns out really small when scaled down. So I'd say the detail is not soft - it's there but it's really fine, delicate.
As I mentioned earlier 3d design is something we're still learning - that's the reason it took so long before we've finished those. I've been waiting till I was happy with the results .

Can't tell for others but we propably haven't done them because I'm goddamn perfectionist. I wouldn't release something that IMO won't work. So in short the sculpt would have to be bloody good (checked ) and we would have to release other parts for female minis (where would you stick female head - there are no proper torsos, legs etc, and that's the real issue).
I've added conquistador heads to the webstore:

It's a nice Spore model and the idea of metal whips is a must due to transport issues.
First impression is that having only one side carapaced is a bit illogical for a device coming from orbit. But I might switch the whips for some scrythed talons so that it looks like a grounded flyer

Post by: Przemas
thx folks
@Clang: that's why I'm thinking about casting biowhips in metal - this should get rid of those issues .
@Kroothawk: while I understand your comment I have to admit I think that putting too much logic into something that should simply look cool won't do good when you design sf stuff . Especially when possible explanations are not so difficult to come up with .
You know, I'm a huge fun of cool design vs "realism" - it's fiction after all, even if backed up by "science" .

It's not realism, it's believability.
Either way, it's one of the best Mycetic Spores I've seen. It actually looks like it fits with the Tyranids.
How large is it?
The price will be the deal maker or breaker.

Yup, best pod design I've seen so far.
Although I'm not seeing any obvious sort of egress... How does everyone get out?

Post by: Clang
Arguably they could just eat their way out through the pod's carapace, which seems to suit nid fluff, and the pod has effectively sacrificed itself by landing anyway...

That is a nice pod, and Clang's description of it having sacrificed itself by landing sums it up perfectly. It doesn't just look like a pod, but rather a big fat mommy-Nid that crashed headfirst into the ground in her eagerness to deliver her baby-Nid payload.

On that note, it may make a really nice abdomen/butt for a Tervigon.

This, so very much. It's a nice drop pod, but flip it so the thin spines are pointing down, and it would make an ace Tervigon.

Just ordered a set of Bio-Hazard head. Can't wait for them to get here.
EDIT: Quick query: Any plans to make packs of "melta-esque" guns? GW only do metal ones and if you guys did your own take on them i bet they'd sell nicely.

I've been offline last week due to sme personal issues, but the guys at the workshop were working like a mad bees . SO much new stuff to paint up - I think Olek will deifnitely need some backup .
Oh, and when it comes to Olek check his recent paintjob he did for us:
He really made my day with this one .

Got my bits order yesterday. Bloody brilliant!
Extremely happy with the orc pirate heads and the steam knight heads. No flash, no detail loss, no bubbles, excellent quality sculpting and quality control. I posted a review of them on my blog, but here are a couple of the pics - I know I always appreciate being able to see pics of things "in hand" before I buy them.
I put the orcs up today. I'll do the Steam Knights tomorrow.

thx for the reviews Scipio! Great work .
I've almost finished painting feral orc heads (Olek has too much to paint already). A tad too rushed but should do the trick .
Kromlech restock has been finally added along with a long list of new releases Artur added since last one.
Last week guys have been working on some production moulds for new items. I have some of the first casts - I should be able to gradually show pics in the coming week. I've already taken one of the items from FreakForge - should work out a preview tomorrow .

It has taken us a while , but I'm confident that this design is much better than wip I've shown you previously. FreakForge again did a stunning job - and wait till you see next versions .

Any chance of getting them without the huge studs all over them? I am not a fan of the mark v armor or studded pads. Otherwise they look excellent.

There are two different packs shown there, only one of which has the giant studs...

Look again... both packs have the studs. In fact, I think its the same pack, just shown from two different angles, and the design is assymetrical (which is a bit of a negative in my book).

Yeah, the rivetted plate on the left hand jet made it look like a differently detailed pack.
Have to say I'm not a fan of that either. Either fully studded, or no studs with the riveted plate would look better, in my book.

Yeah, on second glance, they are two shots of the same model - just as I was about to comment that i liked the second one and not the first
I too would prefer a version minus the Giant Pimples - don't know if that's possible...

Yeah, I would definitely prefer a symmetrical pack, but I would prefer the first pic not the second.

From my experience, Maxmini does indeed like to do variants, especially if there is a call for them.
Which clearly in this case there is!

hehehe - guys , you read my mind . There are indeed more variants. But as they are really varied they'll be released as separate sets . This one, with the huge studs is only the first one .

I don't mind the studs, I just think the ones on the pack shown are too big. If they were 'normal' sized it probably wouldn't look so overbearing.
You guys do awesome work and I can't wait to see the variations. And, I hate to say this, but I would probably buy enough of yours that I wouldn't have to use the ones from another company I like, that are currently sitting on my desk. There's just have too much cleanup to be done. But I know your stuff comes with very little cleanup needed. (and your resin is much easier to work with!)

Not to be impatient, just working out if I'll use them for my SternGuard or not in terms of when I want to paint them.

Okay, I can tell you what would get me off of my wallet.
Orc trenchcoat torsos for (wait for it) Bikers! They could fit right onto the biker legs made by other companies, but have on trenchcoats that look to be flapping in the wind.
I'd buy those for Orc "Champion" Bikers.

Post by: Azazelx
Actually, you know what kind of torsos and heads would look great for Orc bikers?
Real-world-styles Biker-style torsos and heads (and arms).
Leather jackets and vests, denim (cloth) cutoffs, especially with the basic shapes of rockers sculpted on above and below a circle left for club/clan colours (where you could paint whatever you like). Sculpted on iron crosses, diamonds (for the 1% toughest orc patches)....
Helmeted and unhelmeted heads, sunglasses, bandannas, beards and even some with long hair (as much as can be done with regard to the model. Open-face helmets with flyer-style goggles.
I'd get quite a few of any kit that let me turn my Orc bikers into actual Bikers.

Just a quick bump - will the new Jump Packs be in the webstore by, say, the end of August? I was about to place a decent-sized order and would rather add them to this order rather than the next order, which could be quite a bit later based on all the stuff I'm about to order. Was about to place it tonight, but holding off just to see what the situation with the jump packs is.
Also, can things like Skull Tribe helmets be custom-set-ordered like many of the other heads?
thanks!

if so do i need to scrub the items before i glue and paint them?

yup, we use release agents as they make mould live longer . But in most of the cases washing the pieces is not a must, but highly recommended .
