@Lenny: Those are really great! That plas is just too funny. Love the work on the sword... wow, I can just never get that effect right.
@graven: That would be really great. We haven't even tried to paint the chapter symbol on Thing 1's guys... not even sure if I've ever see the chapter symbol. If it works for you, can you send us an extra copy? I'll try to press mold it on our end so we can add it to the rest of his marines.
Sage your wish is my command, I'll send you the Crimson Paladin for our swap then. Just PM me your address and I'll post him when you're ready to complete our trade.
i would like to hear from people how their traded models have been doing in battle!! or if they are even being used in battle. i know when i get a good amount i'll be making some sort of squad (depending on how to get all the layouts to fit in ) and playing with them as some sort of training program or inquisitor group working with my sons of luther. anyone else doing similar things
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh that is where it comes from hahahahahahaha i get it i thought i just invented that name
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh and lennysmash, bolter marine for bolter marine, right?
You're marine is actually a sergeant Sage, he's equipped with a power weapon and bolt pistol. The dude isn't sent yet so I can whip up a bolter marine if you really want. If you get a few sergeants you could just have them leading squads as 'instructors'.
If your looking for bolter guys sage, my guy for you still isnt in the mail (dang 13 hour work days). I could swich him out for a Bolter guy no problem
no i have no issue with that. i think sergs are cooler!! haha i was just wondering since lennysmash asked me for a bolter a while bak, and so i made an assumption.
would you like me to model you a serg marine lennysmash?
im not worried about rules, i can always make it a vet squad
Honestly Sage it's up to you mate, so far including your marine, the squad numbers....1 So you see you have free reign. Like I said in the PM so long as it looks veterany and has character I'll be happy.
Lol, no worries. I have a Demo Hawk Lord for all those that are getting one in trade, I'll get some pics up tonight after work. It's on a black reach guy, but any trades wll not be (unless you really want).
I'm out of several colors for anything but the Hawk Lords, so this week will be all about the purple.
So heres a pic of the Hawk Lord scheme that several of you will be getting. It wont be a Black Reacher, but you get the idea.
Oh, by the way, Ive been working crazy hours (I work at a school, last week till everyone comes back). I'm also out of several paints, which ill be replacing on sunday. And getting little boxes to ship stuff in. Sorry for the delays.
the bolter marine for battle Brother Lucifer is built, so is a marine for Iceangel and lennysmash! i will post pics ASAP. the marine for lennysmash has a power sword and bolt pistol, the one for iceangel has a combat shield and chainsword. if these need to be changed let me know!
I would really love to participate, but as I live on Iceland, I hardly think I can.
If anyone is up for it however, I'm willing to give it a try!
I have only recently started re-repainting my SM's to Salamanders, so I'll put up pictures once I have actually finished one(should be done by tomorrow).
I dont think it will be a problem gretar. We have a few people from the UK and NZ already, so I'm sure if thats not an issue, neither is Iceland. Unless I missed the Cuba/Iceland Treaty of 2007 or something and we cant legally do it.
I will be sendindout marines as soon as possible. I still have some final touches and details to do on the Demo Marine of my Salamanders, and there will also be a Sarg. for those interested(he just got primed this morning, nothing better than some fumes to help you wake up right?)
So basically I'm going out for
Sarg vs. Sarg
Marine vs. Marine
Objectives vs. Objectives
Hey gretar... since you're one of the guys that encouraged me to get started on dakka in the first place... I'd love to trade with you, Iceland or not.
Arakasi: Those are.... AWSOME. I may have you do my whole storm boyz squad....
O'right Gitsplitta, thank you for the honour of being on that list Do you want a Sarg. vs. Sarg or a Marine vs. Marine?
Btw. Here are the pictures of them:
If you want to zoom in and vote they are available in my gallery.
Also, a quick thought for those with enough money in there pockets. It costs a lot to send out each model, and I dont have too much money, and my dad isn't very happy about payng that much for a single model.
So what I'm asking is, would anyone be up for the following suggestion. I will send this out to one guy in each part of each country I trade with(given there will be more than one guy in the country/region) and he will then send it out to the others in his perspective part of region/country.
If not I can take it, that just means it willl take more time for each man to get his model
I need to fill out my one and only tac squad... so I'd prefer a regular old bolter armed marine. I do have a deathwatch shoulder pad and bolter you can use if you'd like, that's kind of how I'm excusing the non-Mantis Warriors in my army. Conversely you can just leave the right shoulder pad off of him and I'll put the deathwatch pad on myself.
You may want to try to work it out with smaller groups then the whole country. For instance, Porkuslime, Ramos and myself are close to eachother, while Gits, Solar Lion and Goterdamrung are in a totally different part, but close to eachother.

Well, I can either send this one over to you and a just putting a blade between and lift up until it pops off should be enough, or I can make a new one That will take a little longer though, as I'm currently up to my knees with homework so only an hour or two to paint.
Btw. For those who intend to trade with me, please let me know if you want to keep the dirt effect or not. I'm kind of using these marines as an excuse to try out the effect
Here are my next two WIP. The one on the left is Brother Utaan, who will be sent to Sageheart. The one on the right is Brother Fwuapuu who will be sent to Gitsplitta as one of his Deathwatch marines.
I have your guy primed and put together git.
Also have Lord Marcus's guy done, except the base. He (oddly) asked for a Black Templar Sternguard. Makes me want to start a BT army TBH. Pic this weekend sometime maybe.
I actually finished something!
Frustratingly, when photographed the varnish is really shiny and obscures some of the detail also; nevertheless, I'm really happy with him (albeit more so in the flesh).
Heres my WIP for Whalemusic
There are multiple spots that need cleaning up, and the inside of the cape will have details of some sort. (blood drops, writing, etc)
Its a rather old metal body from a devistator, made in the early 90s. bBL did a great job making it look less static, which was a problem they had. It'll also be the first split color marine I have (Did a few myself, but they are long simplegreened)
Automatically Appended Next Post: And while you are here, do you have a preference for the inside of the cape?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Cape is finished, and I'm about to leave to go paint the chapter emblem. Pics when I'm done
Automatically Appended Next Post: Finished Whalemusic's marine
Normally, I would base it, but I'm too worried about getting 'snow' on the feet, which have a lot of details, and it would be a waste to hide.
Also, I know the chapter symbol is kinda crappy, I'm not great at free hand.
Just got the basing on bBL's and Marcus's guy, thats about all I have energy for right now. I have no ability to pull off the chapter logo for HL's, so I can either have a go at it, or leave it blank. Lemme know which those of you getting one would prefer, especally bBL.
Hey guys. If you have ever read my sig you would've noticed that I have a YouTube channel! So, I thought this would be smart, both to get more members on dakka and to get more people in on this project!
It has only had like 12 wiews but I'll soon post it over tothe Wargamer Group on YouTube that should get it to atleast hundred(all my videos have jumped from 3-4 to almost 400 after I post them there..)
Hey gretar.... you know that's the closest to meeting one of my dakka friends in person that I've ever come! Cool beans man, good job.
Have the initial build steps of my "marine" swap with Arakasi. This is an ork "Bug Boy" nob... a member of an elite (at least they think so) cadre of ork assault specialists that emulates the Mantis Warrior vanguard and their style of warfare. No ork is allowed to claim membership unless attired appropriately... you can imagine what it took for this nob to get his MW bits (terminator pads and legs).
Much of the scary stuff is done (the limbs and swords), now I'm just waiting for the green stuff to dry. In keeping with the theme of the thread... I hope an ork who *thinks* he's a marine is good enough. I wanted to give Arakasi the option of 'eavy armor, so I used terminator parts instead of regular marine parts. On top of that, regular marine armor isn't really proportioned for orks, but the termie stuff looks pretty good.
When it came to the head, I looked and looked for a "helmeted" head that would suffice... but had no luck. In the end, I figured the ork... wishing to emulate the marines, would do what most marine sergeants do... go helmetless. Both of these heads are an option. I like the one on the left best as it is closest to what you see on a lot of space marine commanders... but again, it would be easy enough to magnetize both heads so Arakasi's got a cybork option if he wants it. I'll be adding a lot of detail yet, some power cables to the swords, etc... but the "worst" is over. My last major hurdle is what to do with the back. Now the vanguard are jump pack marines of course, and the nob is a storm boy so his back is set to receive an ork rocket pack. Problem is that Arakasi want's to use him as a normal nob... not a storm boy. So, I either put the rocket back there so the mimicry is complete (but it won't count as a jump pack), or... I'm going to need to do some major revision of his back to eliminate the superfluous structure.
I'm open to any suggestions... I have an *idea* bouncing around in my head... but I'm not quite sold on it yet so I thought I'd fish for input.

Nice vid Gretar! Looking forward to seeing who comes out of the woodwork, lol. I dont think I've ever been named in a video before, at least not in the 40k world.
Finished Marine for Sageheart
That last picture is taken for Whalemusic. Its so you can see what my basing looks like, so you can tell me if you want that for your marine.
[EDIT] Nearly finished. I noticed two tiny blemishes. I'll go fix em.

I have more issues than that. It was filmed and edited in less than 20minutes
The accent, use of language and words, the wierd faces I keep making for some reason, the mumbling and the "uhhhs" between words etc. are all part of my wonderful video

Ok so here is the WIP picture of Git's Salamander that I promised to post like.. 3 days ago.. and of course I took the photo from distance so you would'nt notice the things that have to fix although its a WIP
Gitsplitta! Once he dries and pictures have been taken your marine will be ready for shipment. I will however, refrain from sending him until you are ready for him.
whalemusic360 wrote:Has anyone found some single marine sized boxes that are available? I hate sending a box that big for something that small.
Lightbulp buxed with lots, lots of ducktape to make them stronger. I've only used them twice and they were both times "in country" shipments, but they worked then, why not now?

True, but I do that too, so i thought i'd just point out a middle of the road fact. Did you do like 5 takes and splice them into another?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also @ whalemusic = small bubble mailers work wonders!
Progress on Arakasi's "bug boy". Pardon my reach... don't want to nail him down until the build is complete. He needs a back pack of some sort... I have an idea but it's going to take some parts I don't have and some contemplation. So far, so good though.
Looking awesome Git! I can see how that rock might be giving you some trouble - attachment wise... Possibly what you need is some bent girder or pipe that attaches to the base, curves around the rock and comes up under or behind the foot - all plastic (sprue?) of course... Might help hold that bad boy (the rock) on as well...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Intrigued on what you have planned for the back. A Rokkit Pack is still not out of the question if it all falls apart though...

Nope, its one take, were I repeat each sentence twice or often, then I put it into my video editing software, cut away all mistakes etc and add the texts. Then I'll save it, and wait till its done uploading on YouTube!

Intrigued on what you have planned for the back. A Rokkit Pack is still not out of the question if it all falls apart though...
My current idea is to run a bit of piano wire from the back of his heel down the top of the rock and into the base below (in the back). Then I'll disguise it in with shrubbery from behind and some flocking. If I do a decent job it should be nearly invisible after painting. I think I've worked out an ork glyph that looks like a preying mantis head (not all that difficult, preying mantis heads are pretty orky to begin with) which will serve as his boss pole decoration. The back pack has been a point of much brain power (such as there is). Because I don't want to make him a storm boy, I don't want to put a rocket on his back (though I think it would look very good). My current thought is that he'd want to be wearing something that looked like it would make him fly (as this is what the Vanguard do), but does not have the where-with-all to actually get a rocket pack. My current thought is to attach a small engine to his back (I think a lawnmower engine with a rope pull hanging down would be hilarious) with 2-4 insectoid wings attached to it. When he goes into battle, he fires up the engine which makes the wings flap a bit... giving the nob the fearsome insectoid appearance he's looking for. This is also consistent with what I've always loved about the orks... the kind of crazy humor that used to be a mainstay of ork character but not-a-days has been largely replaced by the ever-present grimdarkiness of the other races.
I was going to steal your deffkopta blade idea for the wings, but looking at them I've decided they're just too large, not only in length (which can be fixed) but in width (which can't). They are roughly the right shape though (think dragonfly wings), so I'm thinking I'll end up fabricating them for myself, which shouldn't be all that difficult. So the hangup is finding a miniature gasoline engine to fit onto his back. I figure I'm as likely to find the right thing in the toy section of the local store (or my kid's toy box) as I am in any gaming catalog... and a heck of a lot cheaper too.
So, there we are.... kind of stuck until I can get the back-pack worked out, but considering the amount of cutting and pasting that was required to get his limbs on... I'll call it a success so far.
Oooh - a look that I thought of, but was pretty much impossible with a Rokkit pack on their back, is how Blackout (Transformers Movie) has his blades, insect-like across his back. Deffkopta blades "might work". I shall now return to my painting - that is all
So I didn't make it to the post office today as planned. Instead I went to the ER after trying to cut my finger off opening the dang Apocalypse templets. I got 5 stitches and a tetanus shot for my trouble. Got the pie plates out tho.
Guys I think this equally mad and brilliant in the same vein. I am so onboard. I will be making my Home Brew Bear Claws Available.
HOWEVER, this could be a little idea or we could make this truly Epic..........
What if we sent them all to one person.... WhaleMusic!!!
Could we make a Chapter of a thousand Armours and Colours? 1000 Donated Marines. Obviously WhaleMusic you would have to display them photograph them as the ranks swelled.
What if we could exceed 10,000? A Pre Heresy sized Legion! Dare to Dream my friends Dare to Dream. I vote we shift this project into OverGear, lets get Dakka all over it and think the person with the most at the moment should take the lead? Any thoughts?
You know what I might send this one to you Whale Music when it's finished, as the Bear Claws need to be represented.
Some progress on da Stormboyz Nobz... Orkified da wingz (chipped, battered, bullet holes, plates, rivits). Added Bosspoles. The aim with the Bosspole's was to allow pennant style banners. I may have overdone it Though it looks better on Nob 1 than Nob 2 in my opinion... (due to the angle of da wingz). If I keep them here, I still need to clip and re-attach the hangings (skulls, teef, bullets) so that they are not gravity defying. If I don't, well, the only other option would seem to be to place them more vertically on the Jump Pack rokkits. Any thoughts appreciated!

WOW! BLOOD FOR THE TEMPLATE GOD! lol, i hope you have a speedy recovery.
On a lighter note, here is my finished deathwatch marine for Gitsplitta. This is Brother Fwuapuu. Btw, the design on his glove is also on the other side. Sorry the pic is a bit dark.
Oh and mwnciboo, Id love to have a whole army of other people marines. That's actually why I started this, I didn't think I could get donations. porkuslimes idea worked quite well also, and I may have to copy it at some point, it seems to be a totally different pool of people. I have used several in game, and have a ledge on the top of my 40k case that will house them all once I have more, my "Hall of Armor".
As long as there isn't a "U" on the other glove, I'm cool. *grin*
He looks great Ice...
I made sure to make a comment on WM's bloody finger so that it would appear in the picture rotation on the gallery page. I suggest we all take turns doing that & see how long week can keep his wounded digit in the public eye.

this idea would be tons of fun, but i think it would make it so really only one person is getting marines (whalemusic) and everyone else if losing marines since whalemusic cant send them marines if we are trying to get him to have them all, and at the same time he cant paint enough marines to trade with everyone!! i think it is an interesting idea and if there was a better way to do it that didnt upset the balance we have i would be down.
Also, its really blurry and from my phone right before stitches, sorry.
ewwwwww!
i'm sorry for you thou.

Bottom line, if you cannot afford to lose one Space Marine and a little bit of Postage you are in the wrong Hobby my friend. For price of an AOBR Marine and a Pot of paint you could send WhaleMusic a great Marine. I know literally tens of gamers who have to wade through boxes of spares I know I do and I am not alone. I am pretty sure those with a bit of an income could afford it, younger gamers I do have some sympathy with Pocket Money/ allowance doesn't buy all that much these days!
Remember you should give without thought of reward, that is a true moral way. Give in return for something is an exchange, I believe a gift is much better. I will put this to my Gaming club the viet taff and we could do it ourselves, or all give me their marines and I'll post a load to WhaleMusic.
Very noble sentiment mwnciboo... WM already has marines from my son and I... but it would be fun to see him accumulate many more as time progresses.
Still, the point of the swap is to encourage everyone to work for each other... not just for WM's benefit. I'm sure he'd agree with that. Let's face it... doing trades is fun! Gives everyone a chance to push themselves a bit more than they might for their own army while still ending up with something cool to show off (i.e. what you're getting in the trade). Turning the focus inward so that only WM benefits... diminishes the effort in my eyes NOT because he is undeserving... but that fewer people overall will benefit. I've made many new dakka friends since participating in the exchanges... that would be lost if all I did was send things to one person.
I'm not suggesting that folks shouldn't send marines to WM... just that you don't limit yourself or the projects generated by this thread to that one end.
Agreed equally if we all just send to WM we are all only completing one marine. So far I have completed three marines, each one a different chapter. That really is the whole point of this experience for me being able to experiment and try styles that I really had never done before. I have done a Crimson Paladin for Sage that has one of my new bases on, another marine for Git is I hope a perfection or at least an improvement of my bone technique and my final guy is the first yellow marine ever, and you know what is pretty damn good attempt for arguably "the hardest colour".
Don't get me wrong I take your point, but IMHO I think so much would be lost if this thread became solely about getting WM a legion.
On the one side, Git is correct, this is very much a community project. I have a lot of trades going at once (I realized how many when Ice Angel asked). I have made many new friends as well, and pushed myself to show off my abilities.
On the other side, I realize that some people may not want anything in return. Not everyone has a use or place to display the models they would get. If that's the case, I can replace what is sent to me with a basic marine still in bits or cover the shipping. Some don't even feel that to be needed, which is very generous.
That being said, if I got a box of marines from a group/club, I would be super excited!
I'll get some pics of Marcus's and Lucifer's guys up tonight and shipped out tomorrow morn, along with Sagehearts and Solar_lions
I think mwnciboo's idea is a good one - and deserves its own thread - for whomever (may be more than one!) wishes to take up that mantle. There is already an offshoot objective marker thread that appears to be doing extremely well, and I'm sure other similar threads will surface as ideas, time, energy and focus permit
Meanwhile, I think the Great Marine (and Xenos!?) Swap should remain focused on its current format - no need to dilute a great idea. For purely selfish reasons - I can't keep up as it is!
Arakasi wrote:

Oh yeah, for those of you interested in doing non-marines, lemme know and Ill add it to the Master List
I'd still prefer to keep this trade friendly, but as I said, some folks might want to participate but have no use for marines in exchange. Disjointed for example offered to just send one, which is cool. I'll make one to send him back eventually, but it wasn't something he needed to feel like it was worthwhile. And porkuslimes army project, where he would send/replaced the bits used. Both are valid points of views IMO.
So why don't we ask Dakka to do it? Surely one of the Moderators could do setup on the forum and we could all send our marines to him. Dakka's own Marine Chapter, plus you could do Dakka's own Mob that would be seriously mental.
If we did a dakka chapter I'd be in, Bolter&Chainsword did one a few years back and with the Storm Wardens project just finished perhaps now might be a good time to start one. If the moderators wanted to set something like that up I would happily send a marine in. Possibly an entire squad if the Army was auctioned off at the end for charity like the Storm Wardens were.
That would be great. I love looking at all the marines for everyone (one of the main reasons I joined)
And yours (as you know) is done. I can send it whenever.

You don't have to.
If you ship first, I'll use the same box you shipped to me, (like I'm doing with Sageheart) or I can go get a small box and ship first. Preference?
Alrighty. I will try to get a small enough box (I have a pretty small one)
And will ship it eventually.
I would love to see pics when you are able.
(I need to go do work, but I'll be back on in a few hours, so no replies to questions etc until then)
Update! Repositioned and de-emphasized the Boss Poles. I think they are a *lot* better - how about you? Finished the Klaws. Getting perilously close to finished... I want to do a last check against the Stormboyz bodies - see if there is anything I can/want to add - but I'm pretty much at the point where adding stuff is more likely to detract... Then there is some GS work to fill gaps and smooth joins - might even manage to complete them this week! (Modelling wise that is)
By request, some pics!
1st is Lucifer's Hawk Lord. Assault Powerfist and backpack were requested specifically, as was a Plasma pistol, tho not which one. Last PF/PP combo I wanna do for awhile, Ive done 3 for the swap already.
2nd is Marcus's Black Templar. This is my first BT ever. But it was what he requested, so I gave it a try. I'm pretty happy with the results. Lots of freehand as I didn't have any BT bits to speak of.
3rd are a pair of WIPs, as requested. 1st is the DA plasma cannon for Gits Inquisition squad. 2nd is a guy that will be heading to vent in NZ. Got Asomdi (spelling?) from Porkuslime as part of the trade for some old metal SWs. He was missing an arm, and I have the dude already, so I figured use him in the GMS!
Haha yeah I cheated with my Templar iconography, upgrade packs to save the day.
Vent is a lucky man to be getting Asmodai, I've been trying to get him off Ebay for cheap but keep losing him at the last minute. I think it maybe God's way of telling I already have a little too much Warhammer.
mwnciboo wrote:Bottom line, if you cannot afford to lose one Space Marine and a little bit of Postage you are in the wrong Hobby my friend.
I will put this to my Gaming club the viet taff and we could do it ourselves, or all give me their marines and I'll post a load to WhaleMusic.
i wasn't trying to say i can't afford to lose one space marine, i think that there is a joy in the trade itself. and in each person having someone else's marine rather than one person collecting all of them. your idea would be fun, but to me at least takes apart that concept.

Gitsplitta wrote:Very noble sentiment mwnciboo...

He is a cool model, looking forward to havin a go at him. I still haven't done mine yet, mostly because he is totally illegal game wise. He has to be a counts as something, DA chaplains cant take power swords.
Sage I'm sorry I promise I will get your boy sent off as soon as I can, hopefully Monday. as a little extra I have sculpted a base for your marine. Now it my first attempt and its pretty basic but I think it looks pretty good.
Gits I have finally primed your marine and I'm getting him painted tonight. Again I will try and send Monday with the sweeteners I promised you.
Lastly, no one so far has claimed Cpt Slayne of the Doom Warriors, so if you are interested in him let me know and we'll organise a swap. Picture of the lil chap below.
I got both Gitsplittas and Disjointed's packages today. The MW suffered some battledamage, but should be repairable. I again failed to make it to the PO, I had to take my dad the the ER (frequent visits this week!) around 1 in the morning. He will be undergoing gal bladder surgery this afternoon. This week just needs to be over.

awe thanks that's mad nice. don't worry i don't have your model done yet xD almost thou, its on the last stages.

Whalemusic, if it isn't too much trouble with your hand, think you can paint the power fist purple as well?
Automatically Appended Next Post: And whalemusic, I found a perfect sized box to ship your marine. Pm me with your address and info and I'll ship whenever you are ready.
I can, but his plasma pistol is the same color. Its supposed to be the color of the chest Aquila, but as he didn't have one, it got put there. Its not as boring as it looks.
When ever is fine. And I don't really need to see a picture, I think it would look best with a purple power fist.
And gripes about my model I can fix for you? (I'm going to drill the barrels before I send it, don't worry)
I'm considering joining this adventure. I'm currently working on a Blood Angels Commander, and I think hes going to end up on here. Either that, or I'll put my Ultramarines Sternguard Vet with a heavy flamer up here. Will try to post pics after work.
After one week of sweating liters of liquid, having my toenails grow by 7 inches(not really, but for the sakes of it sounding gross..) and almost puke my brains out(yeah, I got some flue and didn't cut my toenails for some time..)...
I have finished your marine! I'll put up pictures of him late tonight or tomorrow, depending on the time dad comes home with his camera
Oh, well thats good.
I wish I didn't have school today, you ninja'd Slayne, but you've been sick, so you deserve it.
How much do you think the postage from the US to you would be?

Erh.. not sure. I just took a trip down to my Post Office and asked how much it would cost from here to the US.. so.. either that or just google?
Brother Lucifer. I've sent a couple of single model sized envelopes to the UK recently and it was $1.44 so it shouldn't be too much more than that to Iceland.
marines for lenny, Lucifer, Iceangel, and Git are all on the finishing touches. do you guys want basing. i do snow basing with some sand. i can post pic with basing along with the marines tonight when they are done
My Dad made it through the surgery mostly together (they took his gall bladder). He should be coming home tomorrow. Thanks for all your good wish's and thoughts!
thats great to hear!
but again sorry about it all.
here are some pics.
sorry they are a bit blurry :( trying out my roommate's camera, it isnt great for this, more for video it seems. i'll try to get better pics morrow with gf camera.
marine for Lucifer:
marine for lennysmash
marine for iceangel
this marine's legs were already a bit primed but i used them anyway since they were the only legs i had. they look a bit gloppy now. if you want a different marine iceangel i'll paint you one, and i'll get a better pic of this one tomorrow. i thought the legs would turn out better, thou i dont think it is awful. if you want a new marine got to wait till they come in the mail thou :/
and lastly the marine for Git
and here is an example of my basing in case any of you want some basing.
the blury pic doesnt show it well thou gahh. i hate blurry picssss!
i guess i could have put up less pics but thought pics of each side would be better in the hopes it would give a better idea of how a non-blurry pic would look.
sorry if too much

Well, that pic is whe he was first starting to be built. The weapon has been changed but is currently frusturating me. I'll see if I can't get better pics (and newer ones, for that matter).
Those are great Sageheart! Man your modeling and painting have really come along in a short period of time. You're gonna really make me *work* to equal your trade aren't you?
Nice looking marine Sage! I love the sword and board look you gave him. Don't base the marine for me. I am going to base him so he matches my table and all the others. As for gloppy legs, you can be the judge. As long as you are happy with him then so am I. I would have to agree with Gits comment as well. Keep on painting and you'll see the painting keep getting better. All you need to do now is learn to take better pictures! lol.
Yup, he made it in one piece. I got Gits MW back together, and the Doom Eagle made it unscathed.
I'm picking dad up after work today, and my finger is better-ish, I did some hard edging on a vindicator last night, just to see if I could. I should be able to start up again next week. And hopefully get to the PO, assuming no more madness ensues.
Aswell as some WIP´s for Brother Lucifer's sarg. I'm trading with him!
Git's marine:
There is some 'slight'(not really 'slight') pooling on his right knee(lucky for me, the pics dont show it ) and his eyes are just some red with a white dot. I've never been that good with eyes, usually its just Foundation Red>Scab Red>Fountation Highlight>White dot. Now its just Scab Red>White dot. The black highlights look a lot better IRL.
As for Lucifer's sarg. :
Really tapletop heavy, so I added a little bonus on the bottom lol. Hope you like After trying to pin, GS and eventually just giving up on the sword arm I finally got it to stick. Now all I'm hoping for is that my effort wont be ruined when I strip the paint off( the brake fluid I use tends to soften the superglue, cousing parts to fall off..).
Oh, and the photor aren't that good becouse my dad's using the camera tonight(he's a photographer and needs to take pictures for a festival in town). I'm Athiest, but thank wahtever's up there for the Dakka Auto-adjusting pictures. Pretty much saved the photos I took
No painting done this weekend(or very little at least) as there is a HUGE festival( huge when you compare it to other festivals around here, not really that big if you compare US, UK etc.) and I'll be there.. partying while I'm still young, eh?
Heres my early in the process WIP for Gretar.
If you don't like him with the chainsword, I can swap it for a bolt pistol, but I think it just looks much cooler this way.
The reason the p fist is white, is because after trying, and failing, to strip the paint off my other two(!) p fists, I had to 'borrow' the powerfist from my IG platoon leader. He was just going to die with it anyways (as you can all see, there are many things left to be painted, such as the rivets on the pad, the skull on the back, etc)
Acetone free nail polish remover.
It didn't melt it, just messed with a thin layer of the plastic. The p fists are ok, but it'll take me a while to fix em back up.
Thats why I took that other one, I don't want to give someone something with a messed up weapon.
Simple green dude. Can leave it in for a few hours or a few weeks (I forgot).
I got your guy changed up Luci, pics sometime this weekend.
And for those following my awesome week, Dad had some complications, had another surgery, and is going to be in the hospital for another night, at least. Should be fine tho.
Alrighty. Pm me your info when you are ready for your marine to be shipped. I'm going to base him tomorrow, and get up pics when done.
[EDIT] Hope your dad gets well soon.
@BBL: Whalemusic had the right of it... that's what I was getting at, just wanted to make sure it would work for you. I've tried a number of things and simple green is very effective for normal paints (like GW) and won't damage your mini's. You can soak things for weeks in it & they'll be fine.
Geeez, it's been a really long time since I've painted a Shadow Sanctus Marine! The Shadow Sanctus (Or Saints if you don't know your latin) is a Blood Angel Sucessor Chapter whose Gene Seed was mixed with Ultramarines to give it some stability. Well... That's what I say so I get to use some oh so pretty blue for the veterans... I've been putting this guy off for a very long time; for which I owe IceAngel a massive apoligy. I got his marine the other day and that got me off my ass to stop the lizards for a little bit and get this guy done...
There's a whole bunch of things all over him which still need to be done; completing the red is the largest. More highlights required... The gun also needs a lot of work, the pack needs to be started (cringe)
I tried a new eye technique on him, but am not overly happy with the results, they look a little strange...
Egads, I wasn't meant to do the base either... Got a little carried away, so I'm going to have to finish it now... I have some snow features which I'm going to add in there, but I'll leave a space for the ice crystals that IceAngel uses...
Colors:
Armor: Basecoat is a 2:1 of Scab Red and... And... Ummm it's all mixed up already and was done a long time ago... I think it was scorched brown? Not sure...
Gun: Chardon Granite then Black Wash with Highligthing still to come
Helmet: Ultramarine Blue (3x thin coats). Recesses are done with watered down Blue wash. Highlights are done with UM Blue and Menoth Base, the mix of Menoth gets heavier the lighter the highlight.
Robe Front: Foundation Purple color (If someone can tell me what that's called, my label has come off) then Purple Wash. Highlights are done the same way as the helm was. Mixing the base with Menoth.
I think that's everything? Mwahaha Even if it's not I'm stopping here, you've all read enough of me yakking on...

I've heard it works great. However, I wanted to do it quickly, so I just used some nailpolish I found. Now, after everything has dried, its all fine, but the body is still messed up from a glue mistake a long, long time ago, so I'm instead going to use a new body, and give him the bp and p fist from the vet I tried to strip. That sound good Gretar?
Pics when I do it (which will be quite soon, I'm getting of my ass and basing whalmusic's marine and building Gretars right now)

Hmm this certainly is an interesting idea, I think I need to drag all of my parts back out and have a go at this too if someone was interested in a trade.
Though I also need to finally name my chapter..Am thinking maybe The Angels Extuli
I'd be happy to give the omega a home Porks. I can do up a Hawk Lord if you want. If you can get a Ravenguard pad, it can even have the logo, tho the one I free-handed on Lucifer's came out pretty good.
I was looking at my latest WIP for the marine swap and I thought I'd put up a list of whats going on.
Ice Angels have been sent to, Whalemusic, Vent, Jonnydelta, RamosAsura, and the Ice Angel for Gitsplitta is done. My current WIP is for Sage, who should be done tomorrow I hope. I have one lined up and I have painted my own captain to lead the unit. That gives me two spots left. Is anyone who I haven't traded with interested?
btw, this is Captain Razzik who will be leading the unit.
I need some suggestions on what to paint on his shield, any ideas?
lord marcus wrote:Gretar I found another marine. you wanna swap?
Hell yes
Although all my tactical marines( unless you want an AoBR) I'll get around and by a 3-marine set or trade some with my friend(hes making an all AoBR army..)
Will get back at you soon!
Also, if anyone cares, I had a blast this weekend, so an easy sunday with some hobby goodness tomorrow

I'd do a trade with you once I get some marines
Also for the shield, how about the chapter symbol or just some freehanded skull?
Ice Angel, I would love to do a trade with you, I was going to leave it till later but if you only have limited space then I'll drop my name in the hat as well. Just drop a PM if you're interested. There are a few examples of my work in the gallery.
I wash rushed there last night while staying at my friends house.. now my eye is really swollen and well, I'm not sure how long till I can paint with some good results again -.-
Gretar, I'm busy for the rest of the day, so I took this early WIP to show my progress
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, whalemusic, sorry for telling you to pm me your address so many times, I forgot you already did (I thought Sage did for some reason)
Glad you like him so far. I was afraid the primer would be too thick and ruin it. the only 'really' noticeable area is on the bolt pistol, and underneath the bp arm pad. The rest will look good, I hope.
Gitsplitta wrote:I can live without the pictures... but take it easy and get well soon. No rush, we'll wait until you're back in good shape for painting!
Thank you very much. This is actually the second time I have an unknown allergy attack(unknown as in nobody knows what the hell it is.). Well, minus the swollen eye and last time I lost breath..

Yeah, well underneath the arm pad is really nothing much to worry about.
Oh and @Sageheart: No I haven't, but as soon as I have a full squad I will actually go play a game for a one in a million years
Lucifer - I have two Get of Freki to send left.. one went to Git. The 2 I have are a basic "grey hunter" type and one with an older Missile Launcher..
What have you to swap?
Whale - Didn't I already send you an Omega? If not.. shoot me your address again and I will mail him out.
Also, to anyone else out there, I do also have 2 AOBR tacticals that I painted up for a Bartertown Painting competition, that I sucessfully garnered the 2 lowest score on.. lol

@Lucifer Thats looks nice, but I dont know if its the wash or thick paint on his helmet that make him look like its a tad to thick there(of course, it could also be the photos.)?
I still haven't based your marine though. Its still in the same shape as the previous WIP pics :( Eff these couple of weeks..

Here you go Sageheart. Your Ice Angel Death Company marine, Brother Utaan, is ready to go! After taking the picture I was remind of a few things that needed to be done, but he is 98% completed in the photo.
I'll gladly paint anyone's marine in the Molten Corps colour scheme. Let me know if you'd be interested in such a thing. I don't even ask you do one of mine!

Thanks man, I've been trying to improve my painting by chatting with people on dakka and using the great tutorials. My guys are slowly starting to look better. I don't know about anyone else who has done a trade, but I think trading a marine to some one else is a great motivator to improve your painting skills. I think my last few guys have been some of my better and using the feedback they're continuing to improve.
You guys are going to laugh.
I used a pin vice to drill like, 4 holes in it, then used my clippers and spun them around until the hole was just right.
(My xacto broke years ago and I didn't bother to get another until a week ago)
Only joking here you go this is your chap hope you like.
The head and the pads aren't glued yet so if you want me to change them let me know, I'll start priming tomorrow so long as the weather gets a little better.
I didnt really read it all but i think its about posting peoples own chapter? well if that case i would like to share my Sinners my own chapter here are 2 models one still WIP
Haha no its not really a sharing thread in the old sense, its more of a swap shop thread, people come here to display examples of their work and then work out trades with others. Though you are most welcome to display your models and join the party.
They both look great however I would say that you need to pick out a little more of the detail of both models, this way you will really bring out the full character of the sculpts.
Well im up for trade i Can trade a Dev marine or an assult marine or a scout or a tactical marine or even a vet if anyone is interested.
@ Lennysmash i didnt really want to work that much on the details i got the idea from sincity the movie and i love the whole black and white with red in the movie thats how i do my marines here is one finish

I thought that might be where you got the inspiration from as soon as I saw your chapters name. I'm sure a lot of people will be interest, it a very unique and imaginative style, well done.
Not like I don't have enough to do... but I'd be game for a trade an00bis, you've got a very interesting style that I'd love to add to my squad. I have Mantis Warriors, very old school (made from the original beakie models) if you're interested.
Might take me a bit to get my half done, but if you can wait I'd be happy to trade.
i would love to trade with you as well an00bis! very much so! i love your marines. i just need a while for my marines to come in the mail so i can glue and paint them!
SUre im down to trade just send me a PM on what you got and how long before you can do it and ill be sure to work something out with you guys. Also thanks about the comments
Whalemusic, your marine has been shipped!
He is in an itty-bitty box, wrapped in bubble wrap. Then, that box is itself wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a larger box. That larger box is inside a priority envelope, and was dropped off about 20 minutes ago.
Tell me when he arrives.
got all the marines im sending out packed, but ddint have time to wait in line at post office due to classes, my gf has stamps so will be mailing them out today and tomorrow!
I was so pumped to take the pics too. He is holding a bolter in his right hand, and holding a skull in his left. He is one of (if not my) favorite tactical marine.
That was fast! I like the red eyes. Looks very good. I'd suggest (just like everyone else who doesn't) that you file the mold lines and drill the barrel for that extra little bit of purdy. Otherwise, looks great!
Thats so cool! i like it a lot thanks! also i know that i needed to file down the mold lines but i didnt see them haha sorry and drilling the barrel i might do not sure yet tho
BBL.. looks great.. paint looks a little chunky, but workable.. (unless that is camera issues) and thanks for leaving off the basing and the shoulderpad.
Is he a Blood Angel? I assume so due to color and blood drops.. if he is, that is fine, I will just work a bit harder to fit him in the force I am collecting..
So I got the time today to finish Battle Brother Lucfer's marine, which is actually also my first ever tactical marine I've painted up in the chapter's colours ( I'm really bad at getting my army painted up, which is why I thought this thread may help me out. )
I may need to touch up the heraldry on his right shoulderpad however, as I noticed the red spread a little, as well as that bit of gold on the pack exhaust.

First: nice job, far better with more advanced techniques than my first, second or several dozenth marine. I like the contrast between the orange and silver, the paint job is neat and clean and your freehand is excellent (I can't even see that small much less paint it). Nice job on the basing too.
There are several suggestions I have that you may want to consider...
1. I can still see the mold lines, even without zooming in. Use a hobby knife or needle fine to remove them before priming the figure, be thorough.
2. The silver still seems too bright to me. Think about a general wash with badab black first, then a dry brush with your silver over the top to bring the volume back up on the high spots. Then you can line with a colored wash in the crevices (as you've done here) if you want to add a further color tone to them.
3. The gold and silver together don't work well. Just too much shiny metallics. consider making the cover on the bolt gun a complimentary non-metallic color, perhaps one of the colors from the shoulder pad. Same goes for the trim on the back-pack and shoulder pads. Maybe a contrasting color like black or white would work better for the shoulder edging.
4. Paint the eyes a contrasting color, maybe with a small white highlight in each to catch the eye.
5. Kind of hard to tell, but the silver and gold look a little thick. Dilute them down a bit and you'll use less detail and have a better surface on the big plates.
Overall a nice job. With a little tweaking you'll be right in the thick of it!
Finished the build on Arakasi's Bug Boy... added a 3-stage retractable (car antenna) boss pole / radio receiver / bionik ear.
I like him... he makes me smile. Size comparison is imposing... that marine is what... 8' tall?
iceangel and BBL marines are going out before class. i need to go to mailroom to deal with getting lennysmash's out. classwork has made it hard to mail out marines!!!

The problem with this unit of marines is They're already pre-assembled, so I'm going to have to keep the mold lines in mind for future builds.
As for the colouring, my aim was for the silver and gold scheme with the blue eyes, as with my avatar, though unfortunately the blue is lost amongst the mithril when it comes to paint, i may have to try and see a way of dulling the gold, perhaps with my chestnut ink, and likely change the bolter casing, though the colouring on the right shoulder pad differs from unit to unit, as I'm trying to go with a medieval knight theme.
Although I could try and NMM the armour, but wouldn't have the first clue where to start.

I envision I will see him this coming Monday. He games at the same store I do on Monday nights, and we beat each other up occasionally (on the tabletop)..
In fact, he is PROBABLY the first battle for the Deathwatch Strike Force when it gels.. lol..
OK, given that... You could consider gold and white? That would be striking and would not have the issue of conflicting metals. Golds are pretty easy to make to a decent standard... start with the darker gold (burnished?), then a lighter gold (shining?) highlight. Wash with sepia (or chestnut), then a light shining gold highlight. Makes a pretty convincing gold with a lot of depth.
If you want to stick with the silver, don't wash w/ the light blue, go with a dilute badab black. The blue of the wash dilutes the impact of the eyes & makes them look like a mistake or unfinished area.
