Hey, been workin on ideas for GMS marines and what not. If possible, please PM me if we worked out a trade so I can have a fresh reminder of what I'm working on. Thanks!
Think I remember them all, but I don't want to forget someone.
Hey again all. First update in a bit.
So, Red, I nailed down today and got your Wulfen done. I had to redo the entire scheme as I mentioned, tests and family got in the way so that's why I delayed so long, not to mention I wanted to sleep on the scheme in case it wasn't quite right. Two days sleeping on it, and yeh it's a go. Here he is then. Sorry for the picture quality and well I guess the model quality. He looks ghastly and shoddy in this picture which I don't think quite does him justice. I also repositioned him as I painted him unassembled and changed his pose. So, I present to you:
Un-based and such as you wished! I also steered away from drybrushing him because technically, he isn't of my Chapter's body, he is of your own. PM me your address and I'll try and get him to you as early as possible. You might be waiting a little though, but I do have to visit a friend for a package soon and I can get him to post it on my behalf. I hope you like him.
I am near complete on all three current trades. Ok one is done but it seems that every time I stop painting and setup the camera shot I get pulled away from the project for several hours and then finally get time for it about 10 minutes before I sleep. So sorry for the lack of progress pictures but it went like this, primer, basecoat, wash, tweeks, gems, and finaly finish coat.
Currently all three bases are bare, so does Graven, Pat or Red have any requests?
We got Red Skullz wolfen, Patmandudes terminator, and inmygravenimage devistator with missle launcher.
Now if I remember right Crimson and Masterblaster were intrested in setting up a trade here as well. Im all go for more builds right now. Heckers Im open for trades with anyone right now.
Looking very cool! Like the GK helm on the standard termie, btw, gives it almost a contemptor-vibe. Nice.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh! Basing - urban, or none. I use D-style (WM bases) just cos, but I've ordered some inset ones that I can slot GW bases into for GMS etc.
Yo 1-i I'm in a bit of a sticky wicket at the moment, got no spray paint. I have ordered some however and it should be here next week at some point so when I have the spray paint I'm up for a trade yep. Got your Death Company built anyway so I'm half way there.
hello everyone!
I'm not interested to swap, but have something you might like..
A few days ago I decided to repaint my marines into Deathwatch scheme, but having to paint about 73 different models ad not willing to have any double chapter, I hope you can help me out.
go to my blog(link) and post a picture and the name of your space marine chapter(s) and perhaps some fluff around it if you'd want a special place amongst my ranks..
I hope to get as many reactions as possible(you may suggest several designs) so I can get 73 different chapters in my army!
as of right now, 64 places are still free - on my blog you can see a list of all different models that you can choose from
@Graven, Your Dev is a GK head as well. Not to be lazy on my end but your response to the base sounds like its better off in your hands.
@Crimson, take your time. Last I checked we are all still alive and the world is spinning so I can sit and hold on to this nifty looking marine I painted up for you.

Sure thing then It's a rather nice and simple scheme on my half but looks preety good, I am slightly messing around with some different colours at the moment though, swapping red for a cold bluem changing this, adding that, so when I get the spray the scheme should be complete and I'll get around to yours.
Red Skullz wrote:@crimson: good `un! I`ll reply to the PM asap
I would love to do a Swap. I have 2 marine chapters I do.
One is a Blood Angels Successor chapter called the Blood Rogues. The concept is that thechapter is made of of marines who have partially been taken by the blood rage, and too violent for normal deployment, but are too sane for Death Company. They are generally delpoyed on what would be called Suicide Missions, but some always make it back, and fight on.
They are made using Blood Angels and Dark Angels iconography, so they really could be fielded as either. I can make a PW marine, or bolter tactical. or Assault with no JP and a bolt pistol/bolter and a Chainsword or PW
Just to get and idea of the looks, here is one of my honor guard-
I also have a hombrew chapter, just for LOL's, the Space Bros. Joke chapter, poking fun at frat boys and such. If you want one of these marines, touch base and we can discuss loadout/pose. But here is one of my "Fist Bump" Space Bros-
Mug of Beer
Let me know, I think I have 1 set of extra legs, maybe 2, so I could make 1 or 2 to send out into the world.
@Lord Osma, Im ready to get down and dirty with you on a trade. Space Bro's are awesome and I thing one would be a great fit for my assorted squad of Death Companiers. I can offer up either a terminator or some other type of marine. If your interesed let me know.
As a "frat boy" I'm interested in the Space Bro marine, but I haven't done a trade in a long while... In fact I still have one painted from my last trade that fell through. Would you be willing to paint a Space Bro Successor Chapter in trade for the unloved GMS marine I still have? I like the Beer Mug Chapter Icon, but I'd rather have it in my fraternity's colors than in purple and gold (which is oddly my university's colors).... Also, first post in this thread in probably a good 20 pages.
@Red Skullz: Hey mate. I've made a few adjustments to my overall Chapter scheme so I've updated your model and fixed what I perceived as painting that looked horribly out of place. He is now updated but on a note excuse his shoulder, for some reason it looks far more blue than the armour itself, could be because I just put it on. Here I do present to you, the honoured feral brother Eremeat of the Angels of Punishment, seconded to the Wulfen of the 13th.
I'm working on posting him to you, shouldn't take me long so I'll get back to you when I have more news on the matter.
@1-i: Hey 1-i! Got my spray paint the other morning so progress shall commence on your Death Company marine. I'm going to be spraying him up shortly and them painting him should not take me long, I'm in the mood and have other stuff to do so I am both driven and focused I am preety sure I didn't mention a possible minie I would like to receive but if you don't mind a suitably epic looking Tactical marine will suffice, that, or a Tactical sergeant (any loudout but something preferabbly plasma for his ranged weapon if it's not too hard to ask). I am using Codex: Dark Angels and such so they're preety vanilla for wargear and of course as the way it is in the colours of your own Chapter if it isn't a bother . I am attempting to make my 3rd Tactical Squad composed completely of GMS marines so I hope to trade some more.
Also if anybody does not mind I am up for another trade or two. I have some extra pieces from crimbo and such so I'm hopefully good for parts.
Other than that, I`m good for some swaps myself since I`m done with the 4 I had at the go. They are going in the mail tomorrow.
I`m after a Possessed and/or Wulfen type of squad that I will play as a count.as Blood Claws in my 13th Wolfwing primarily. Per now I`ve got three marines for that pack and got room for 12 more Among them I can take 2*flamers, 1* plasma pistol and 1* powerfist.
What can I swap you say? Well my "patented" heavily weathered, riding the storm 13th Company Space Wolves Check link in sig for army plog.
Thank you Red. I know I'm making excuses now and such but sorry for the delay on the posting of the model, have a bit of issue getting to the local post office is all. I intend to fix said issue however shortly.
I had surprising difficulties with the buitd of these two. It took me forever to find a sword arm with an angel that I liked and even now Im not 100% on my choice, more like95% ok with it. On the hammer, well again the angel is not what I had envisioned but after repositioning the actuall hammer I happy with the result.
Was wandering through my mini case today and I happened upon an old Mk-VII librarian with jump pack that I'd painted years ago. I'd already spruced him up once & just got done doing so again. He may night be quite up to my current standard, but he's not far off. By far it's the best power axe I've ever done, that's one thing for certain. As a Mk-VII marine however... I just can't use him. He doesn't fit into either my Badab era or post-crusade army. But, he looks good & is a tried and true veteran of many an armed conflict so it seems a shame to let him languish in a box.
So, if anyone's interesting it doing a trade for him. Please shoot me a PM. Here's the latest pic.
Gitsplitta wrote: That's really cool Alf! I think that's the best work I've seen you do. I'm honored
I put a lot of time into it, far more than pretty much anything else I've done with exception of the Mountain King, who only had so much time put in due to his size.
I will say this, it was a royal pain to not fall into my old ways and just slather some paint and wash on and call it a day.
The only complaint I have, and Idk if I should fix it or not, is that I tried some armor chipping on his right hand just under the boltgun. Originally it ended up as a slip in the brush when painting, and I brought up your chipping tutorial and decided to try it out. I like the effect, but without more on the armor it seems out of place, so I will probably fix it up before hitting it with the matte.
And it means a lot to hear those words Gits instead of my usual, "It needs a wash"
Up to you, I was going to look at them and see what the average armor looked like. If they were all in good armor condition, I would touch up the hand on my Space Wolf, and if they looked like they had been damaged, I would try some chipping and battle damage on him .
So even an older pic would work... I'm gonna dive through your gallery lol
edit: They seem to be pretty clean and tidy. I'm still gonna think it over, might throw some up on the knees, boots, arms... we'll see
I only managed to snap 2 images that came out decent, but one of them is too bright. So here is one of the shots of the battle damage I tried out.
Sorry for this slightly washed out picture, but it shows some of the damage better than the other pic imo at least on the
The entirety of the model (with the exception of the wolf tail talismans was done using GW's colors. Base color, wash, 2 layer paints (except the reds, I only have 1 layer paint). The armor was finished with Fenrisian Grey, and then I took my Asurmen blue which has separated, and I just dip my brush into the white part to get a very light blue wash. And then to smooth everything out, I painted on a thin layer of gloss varnish. I will hit this with a matte before I send it off.
Edit: The lack of a shoulder pad on his right shoulder is due to the fact that I don't have a Deathwatch shoulderpad, and that's one of the requirements for the mini, so I left it off since Gits has some
Idk if I have enough unassembled Marine bits. I've got plenty of Dark Vengeance Chaos, but I gave most of my bits away in the DCM Secret Santa trade.... I wouldn't mind a trade, just don't think I've got the parts.
Note: Painting this bad boy has given me thoughts of starting a Space Wolves army, because I love how this guy looks.
Lovely work, I'm always up for a trade - shameless tart that I am. You've gone about it the right way, expressing interest and showing your goods. I play gk, SM (mentor legion), BA (weeping angels - homebrew), trying to swap for some deathwatch just now (a not uncommon gms) - lmk what you fancy making or getting! Folk sometimes make basing requests - eg unbased, plain, specific theme, base style, or free reign. Hope that helps, lmk - and welcome aboard!

Deathwatch I can do, I would like to add a Soul Drinker to your kill team! Let me know what load out you would like and I will see what I can do. I guess a GK marine would be a good addition to my command squad (make sure no heresy lingers), if you are up for it so am I!
@battle8brother: I`m up for a trade I as Graven are after Deathwatch marines but mine with ccw loadout and if you feel like it wulfen/mutated conversion is not unwanted
I play Space Wolves 13th Company but I can do other stuff as well if that`s the case.
@battle8brother: sounds good. Loadout-wise, not fussed; they're going to be counts as grey hunters so I want them to feel really veteran-y - but a regular bolter dude is grand. Alternatively, I do need a las-cannon chappy... Any thoughts on what you want from your PAGK?
@wm360: the cape looks excellent, and I can see its progression from the one you did for me. Re highlighting maybe try thin codex grey? Looking good though.
@ inmygravenimage & Red Skullz, I am down for a trade, all I have Deathwatch style is the command squad ]||[ shoulder pad but I could throw together a marine for the both of you, pm me your load out requests. In return I would like some marines to fill out my sternguard squad, regular bolters are fine but if you want to go crazy I wont stop you! All I ask is that they have battle damage (so I can learn from others). I guess this is my pledge to build! All I ask is a little patience as I just made an international move and still don't have my supplies, but they are as good as made!
inmygravenimage wrote: Oh, cables! I like muchly. Um, totally should do my next gms dude...
That would be awesome, Graven! I'd love to get another model by you (especailly since the first one is in Australia ) ! My table is a littl full right now, however, so it would have to be in May some time. Let me know if you're still interested in a couple of months.
@inmygravenimage. just got all my stuff in and want you to know that work has begun! i have the mini blu tacked together and ready for your input! will load a pic later today.
@ Red Skullz. same as above however i have put some paint on yours and will upload a pic later, i have to say i was missing a second plasma pistol so i gave him a power axe!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay the time to picture update has arrived!
first up is Red Skullz mini. if you have anything to add on the pose let me know its still all blu tac at the moment as it is very much a WIP
Next up we have inmygravenimage's mini, this one is just what i am preposing for the minis pose let me know what you think! (i plan on keeping the helm white BTW)
@inmygravenimage
If you want me to play around with the pose let me know, this guy is about to belong to you and i want him to be enjoyed so drop some input. I have a second pose i really want to do but it requires green stuff and i am a little scared to mess him up with my shoddy GS skills.
Okay then,
what i was thinking is..... having the marine blocking with the sword and having the pistol almost horizontal across his chest (as you would in a close in fight) i would have to GS the extra flexi armor around the armpit. i will throw up a pic on here at a later date w/BluTac.
Gitsplitta wrote: On the Friday night of Adepticon at approximately 7 PM (or as soon as we can find a free table in the main hall), the Wardens of the Maelstrom and the Redeemers of the Maelstrom will revive the epic stuggle of the Badab war. 8000 points (or two full Adepticon teams), 4 rebels, 4 loyalists will vie for superiority on a desolate battlefield in that far-flung region of space. The Fire Hawks, Red Scorpions, Marines Errant and their Adeptus Mechanicus allies will try to bring the four rebel chapters... Tiger Claws, Lamenters, Executioners and the Mantis Warriors to heal.
We invite all of you to come join us to witness this historic event, and well as joining us in a mixer of sorts. A chance to meet us, see the armies in person & maybe even run one of these storied chapters whilst it's owner takes a pee break! We'll provide some limited quantity of libation and nosh to get things rolling... but it's probably best if you bring your own lest you be disappointed. We'll start to set up 7ish... but if you want to wait until the battle is rolling to swing by, 8 PM is probably a more reasonable time to join us.
I hope you can join us... it's going to be a really good time!
Feel free to cross-post this as you like. This is an open invitation to Dakka and the 40k community at large. I'll post it in a couple of different places on Dakka myself.
As a heads up for all, I have been made aware that Lorna has been initiated several several trades, got the one from his trade partner, and then never sent one in return. I would recommend avoiding him at this point.
@StormSung, to Join is easy in fact you just did. As for what is acceptable, that normally is decided between you and whoever you trade with but yes a Sergeant is perfectly fine and objective markers are not out of the question.
@Cormadepanda Not I but good luck and welcome aboard.
These Flame Wardens are definitely a work in progress as of this moment. They're basecoated with some test silver ran over them and some scraping here and there I'll need to touch up. I've spoilered my post to hide the picture spam.
Spoiler:
Granted, here they are.
Here's the objective marines:
It seems like pictures make the model look worse than it is in real life, and shows all the flaws. :I
And here's the base I plan on using for these two.
[/img]
I eventually plan on making the one with the Sanguinary guard bit a captain, and greenstuffing on a cloak.
Regardless, they're loosely based on this:
Here's Sarge:
Anyways, I hope to take my Sergeant that I do not want to use for TT (I need one with a flamer,) and the objective marines and officially enter them into this swap. A little background here, I've only had one successful trade so far on dakkadakka but, I hope that won't stop anything.
The Sergeant, after some paint and greenstuffing (Probably a cloak,) will be traded for another Sergeant, hopefully one with a flamer. It'd be awesome if I could get one from the Mentors or Dark Angels, in a more oliveish color. As for the Captain Objective piece, hopefully a basic terminator.
Anyways, here is the chapter scheme, and how that Sergeant should look, minus the helmet. (This also includes those marines in the objective.)
Anyways, Graven, Git, or if any of you want to do a swap, that'd be awesome. What do you think of them guys?
I know right, its actually p*ssed me off to an extent . Not that I'm never getting a model in return, but that people like this can rip other people off with no recourse back on them, that's what gets me going. I have his personal email and address so there could be a huge steaming pile of order manure being sent care of a disgruntled modeller
@stormsung - there's some nice builds there mate. I'm certainly not saying no to a swap but I now have 3 that have fallen through, so I'm wee a bit cagey.
@knightley - I advocate unleashing the pregnant terror upon him.
Finally (after several years) finished graven's GMS marine!
"Uncle John" Grobowski enjoying leave right before being shipped out to serve as a scout specialist with the Deathwatch. John enjoys long walks on the beach, slaying heretics in the name of the Emperor, pranking his squad mates and spending time in the brig (after accidentally pranking his Captain). Pictured here on Zegama Beach with the misses "Long Tall Sally" and his wing-man "Chip". Turn ons: Caressing Sally's trigger until she goes off. Turn offs: Night fighting (nights are for loving, not fighting).
(Hope you like him graven & find him worth the wait.)
High Emperor Aggron wrote: Can I get in on this? Does it have to be a tac marine? And I have a terminator chaplain painted up as Steel Scorpions(DYI)
No problem HEA, just do what Fen did. Post a couple of pics of your work and see if anyone is willing to take you up on a trade. Does not have to be a tac marine. Scan through this thread and you'll see all kinds of amazing minis (most custom-made).
I have An assalt on Black reach captain painted in the crinson fists colors lying around does anyone wanna swap. If so i will post picture after tonight. Also is my Bday next week so i should get loads of 40k and money

I believe most people swap minis painted after an agreement with their trade partner though... You can post pictures up and see if anyone wants to trade with you!
Would anybody be interested in swapping out painted Dreadnoughts?
I have the following fully painted Ironclad Dreadnought (painted in Deathwing colors, with all the weapon options painted also + magnetized hands) that I'd like to swap to an ordinary dreadnought, preferably painted in DA or Deathwing colors.
Here are some pics, the upper body turns (is pinned) and like I said the hands are exchangeable. The only problem is that some of the magnets are a bit weak, so if you want to get the hands to point at the sky or something like that, it's hard to keep them in that position.
Apologies for the slightly sucky image quality, have only my phone camera.
If the images for some reason don't show, here are the links (they're hosted on my DropBox)

Those Dropbox links are tricksy! Try posting your images up in the DakkaDakka gallery - you'll have much less issues! Hmmm - even more tricksy than I first thought!
I was just talking about this thread with some friends when I realized I hadn't seen any action on this thread in awhile. I'm going to be doing another swap with Ramos so I thought I'd help bring this back to life. I'll post some pictures once I iron out what I'd like to make.
Let me get home and take some pictures of my Angels of Vengeance (Dark Angels) and my Blood Knights (Blood Angels) And I'd love to swap! Currently at work but I will post some later tonight (US Eastern Standard Time that is)
Wow 1-i! It's nice to see your collection finally in one place. The horde of dreadnoughts looks cool. I hate to say it but you almost need some regular dudes in there. Is there a single tactical marine in that picture?
Hey all, Im back from my annual hiatus from dakka, and would love to help breath life back into the thread that breathed...? broth? life into my first painting attempts!
I'm still doing Crimson Fists, and I have a new chapter, under the old name of the Sons of Ouroboros. They are a sage-green color with white pads. Aztec feel to them now, heavily kitted out with pouches and the like. If anyone wants to swap, let me know. I currently don't have my models with me, but I think im going home this upcoming weekend and will grab them if I do. Examples are in my latest p&m thread

When I went vacationing in the Dominican I scuba dived with some folks then mailed them the footage I shot with my underwater camera. One of the disks went all the way down to Florida! So I'm fine with sending stuff away. I also paint well and could use a break from painting my rank-and-file dudes.
The following images aren't of finished models but they're pictures of WIP that I'm currently working on.
i am back everyone after sixish months of inactivity i am back and ready to swap some marines. pm if your intrested.
-four hours later-
okay i came home from swimming and went to paint my friends birthday present (box of tactical marines) and when i got to my painting shed i found the door ajar. when i came into my shed i found that my little sister had painted the walls with all my model paints then tipped my armys onto the floor and then had jumped on them. then she dumped all my super glue and plastic glue on top so all my models are now ruined.

... wow. Sir, my heart most definately goes out to you... My sister (who was 4 at the time) took the pony from the starter box with dwarfs and O&G in and painted it in a thick coat of blue. Needless to say I was . I cant imagine how you feel.
Anyway, i've popped my head into this thread a few times previously, but now I think i'm ready. I paint White Scars, so if anyone wants to paint/trade whatever, shoot me a PM. I've not got any work uploaded (yet) but jump into my blob - link in sig - and something will be thrown up shortly.
Does your sister get an allowance/make any money of her own? Honestly, I'd talk to your parents about having her allowance divert to you until at least some of the models have been paid for. Gotta teach the kids the value of a dollar and to respect other people's property.
she payed me back the £250 she owed me (dat girl got £2500 from a car crash case win) so i bought a new space marine army (mega force) and all the paints so my striking cobras (mah chapter) can crusade again. and i managed to salvage my skaven and a couple of dreds plus my captain
Here is a WIP shot of some swaps I'm working on.
Now that they are primed I'm hoping to have some paint hit the models this weekend. More WIP will follow.
While I was taking some pictures of my WIP shots, I picked up all of the marines I've received from the wonderful dakka community thus far.
As you can see its quite an eclectic mix of chapters and styles. Some clean, some dirty, some make sense, several do not. Either way it has turned out great so far. More are still on the way. I'd like the thank Whalemusic for getting this started however long ago that was and a thanks to all of you that have traded with me. I think my painting has improved because of it.
This is the washed termie that i am sending to zambro when it's done. i have also added insignia after the picture was taken. Without further ado i give you brother augustus of the cobra fangs
Hey I came across this thread awhile back and wanted to do it then, but life happened lol. At the risk of pullin up a dead thread I have 10 painted Space wolves from a friend that I dont need. Was looking to swap to make a deathwatch unit (original huh ) going to use them as my legion of the damned. If anyone is interested I would love your paint scheme with a deathwatch shoulder pad or left alone if not and the left arm painted silver. Not based. hopefully people are still watching this thread.
Hey, not to necro, but is anyone still down to keep this running?
Real life stopped me from painting and modelling for some time, then came graduate school, then a revival of my old DnD group, and then more grad school.
Now though my brother has started playing warhammer, and I have started to go through my collection and remembered the great joy of this project. I have a bunch of marines, unpainted and most are unbuilt that I would love to trade! If anyone is still interested, I would love to trade some marines.
Plus i always had a dream of playing a game with all the marines ive collected from these trades, and need many more before it is a full army!
I would like to help reinvigorate, it would be nice to contribute to a great thread
Would anyone be interested in my orphaned Terminator Sergeant? He was painted as a Brazen Minotaur many moons ago but I don't use them now and it's a shame to see him standing idle.
The photo is a little harsh, he is slightly nicer in RL
WM, if there was a [ shake fist ] emoticon I would use it towards you The irony is palpable.
This thread should stay alive, but we need a class ranking system. I've stood by this thread with serious interest for quite some time, but have a hard time devoting 15-20 hours on a mini to receive something someone spent 40 minutes on. I could spend less time on minis, but c'mon, what's the point then. If art is to be handed over, or traded, it should be reciprocated in a way that is parallel.
Or rather:
My painting > some dude's painting.. therefore I don't want to swap with that dude.
This post probably makes me sound pretentious or A-hole-ish, but that's not my point at all. I participated in a dakka-project where each pantheon/chapter was to be represented with a different dakka user painting one model from each chapter/legion,
**ie: WM360 was to paint one Iron Warrior
IceAngel was to paint one Imperial Fist
Moltar was to paint one Word Bearer**
Which I did. The bloke was awesome. He's still in my gallery. I put a ton of time into him. Was he my best sh*t ever? No, but that didn't stop me from trying. His base(though minimal), his Power Armor, and most importantly, his face looked awesome. Once submitted, he joined the ranks of a bunch of scrubs who were phoned-in by their (volunteering) painters. The lot were sold at auction and proceeds supposedly went to charity, although I don't think anyone found out if there was a charity. For the record, I don't expect that [dakka user] pocketed the profits.
My point is, I don't want to paint a masterpiece to see it shipped off and in return I get a blotchy, over-coated half-ass space marine.
I really do want this thread, more than any other, to fight for its existence. The concept is beyond phenomenal, but I think it lacks a certain angle to help people stay involved. Some of that would involve a little humility. I, by all means, do not consider myself one of the better painters on dakka, FAR FROM IT. However, with +20 years painting experience, I can solidly say, that I do have some skill. If we had a way to measure that, I think this thread could build upon itself and become something more than a thread. I think it could shape dakkadakka. That might be a stretch, but we've seen a few deathwatch squads come from nothing but this thread alone. THAT'S IMMENSE. No one else has that. At the same time, no one wants 9 of their 10 man squad to look balls-awesome and the 10th, pvt Derp, to look a fool. I don't know the what's what and who's who to make this thread live up to it's potential, but I sincerely hope that it can and does.
Maybe that's the 6 pints (+ shots of whiskey) talking, but I really don't want to see this thread go to the wayside.
Nah, makes sense. I've certainly got it on both sides. The marine I got for some of the folks are way above my level, and some way below (not that I am amazing). Some people have done a bit of marine dumping, putting less heart into it or using already done guys they don't need for their list anymore. The best way I've been able to come up with that doesn't put people down or exclude anyone is to let people figure out their own trades, which is why we ask for past work as well as photos of the finished marines for the trade. We've even had a person get burned, I think twice actually. If someone doesn't meet your standards based on previous work, or you get a bad vibe, pass on a trade.
And that's just it. I'm about to leave work, so I don't know the next time I can check in and follow up. [and yes I've been drinking on the job] My point is/was that all should be and are welcome, they just need a checkpoint. Maybe the times I've looked into swapping, the current arsenal of "up for trade" users has been lacking. I'm all for it. All of it. But we need to integrate some kind of curve. The last dakka paint challenge I entered (and crashed and burned in) users got to choose their own painting hierarchy category, ranking them against their peers. Maybe something along those lines would work, where "less skilled" painters can step up to the next level, but only when they're willing to take on the challenge. I don't know how it will, or can, all come together, but I stand behind this thread. I've been absent (in terms of work submitted) on dakka, but will participate where needed to keep the Swap alive. (that is, once I have a proper work station)
i like the idea, I agree sometimes I get models much better than mine and vice versa.
I feel that by doing this though could be detrimental to the idea if it stops people from participating at all, but it is a very interesting idea which I would like to see played out.
I will admit when I started here my painting was not that good, since then I have become much better, but i do at times felt it was an unfair trade in either direction.
I like the idea of a curve, a ranking system of some sort.
Who will rank them though is something to debate, and how people get up to that rank. And other questions arise. For example what if someone is a great modeler, but not a good painter? What section do they get put in. They may offer a highly original model that just lacks some of the painting. How does someone grade them on this scale?
I do like the idea, just don't know exactly how to get it going in a fair and just way.
BTW I also drink at work occasionally, so no judgment there.
I can agree with Moltar on this one, spending a decent time on a model, giving it that little bit of pizazz and getting a mould line covered, blotch of paint seems like a slap to the face.
However,
I want to get my painting out there, so from my perspective I am more than happy to send a model to a Dakka user over seas (or locally) knowing that they will get enjoyment from looking at my painting style and modelling. Not everyone can paint to what I consider my level so who ever I embark into a trade with I go in with zero expectation, I know that any model I send would always be to a level I would be happy with. What ever I got in return I hope would be at their level they are happy with,
I feel like I should have a drink before I post in this thread at the moment. I do understand where you are coming from Moltar, I just hope where ever this leads the thread doesn't in any way become a detriment to people who are less experienced. I for one have often traded with others at a higher level then what I can produce but it has only made me a better painter as I get to study the model I've received in return. I've said this before multiple times, I think participating in this thread has directly influenced my painting improvements. I also posted plenty of pictures of what I can do before offering a trade so my swapper knew what they were getting in return.
Perhaps we could have an updated or revised look at the procedure for offering and accepting a trade?
For example, I post a picture of a marine and say, who'd like to trade. Instead of a flood of responses on this thread, everything is held privately via PM's so you don't have to come across as a douche when you turn someone down because you don't like their stuff.
Secondly, I personally make my marines custom for my swap, I don't come to the thread with a pre-made guy. Not that there is anything wrong with that but perhaps that could be a separate category in the swap? Like Moltar said, you want to feel rewarded and pleased with your swap not annoyed that you got a black reach marine for your forgeworld hand crafted master piece that has a custom base to fit the other persons table.
I can see that working. I've had some great trades out of this thread, but equally I've been stung twice by folk just not keeping their side of things. Still keen, though.

agree with this sentiment. AS well as what Iceangel stated about improving painting styles from seeing other models, it has done so for me.
OIn another note, @ IceAngel, your model that you sent me was stolen from me by a young kid who was with his parents looking over my parents house when they were selling it. I was away at school at the time. Sigh. On that note, can we make another trade? I've become a better painter, so my model to you will be a higher quality paint job.
Man, we're quite the group. Grab a pint and join the discussion!
I wouldn't want any one to feel discouraged from trading or participating either. I also firmly believe that swapping minis, especially ones that are not already completed, would improve anyone's skills. Maybe what we really need is more participants, who are not as skilled, to drive traffic here and get the newer hobbyists to start swapping. This would help increase their skills as well as the sense of community here.
I don't have the answers, just the ranting capabilities.
Ah yeah I would prob have to say something if saw my doctor drinking.
About to go to work, and prob end up with a half pint with lunch, one of the few perks of serving, free drinks and free food.
@moltar: I do think you bring some great points, and maybe we do just need more beginner.painters to facilitate equality among trades and.have.people.improve. but how do we get those people to participate?
Maybe do a competition of some sort with different levels, where you are graded both on your model, and.the one being sent to you, so each trade is competing with other trades rather than individual painters, that would force a.sort of team work.
inmygravenimage wrote: I can see that working. I've had some great trades out of this thread, but equally I've been stung twice by folk just not keeping their side of things. Still keen, though.
Same here, but only once. I'm still waiting for TiB's swap to arrive, something like... 2-3 years ago ?
Sigh... I put a lot of heart into my model, and it saddens me to have it dwell into an undeserving home...
This sounds fun. (Both the drinking, and the model exchange!) I'd be down for a Marine swap - I have a good number of on-sprue Space Wolves and little inclination to add to the army, so why not!
I believe I have some pics of my work in my gallery... I'll check and if not, will add some. I'm not the best painter in the world but I'm pretty decent.
Incidentally, I'm more of a Tyranid collector than anything else, so if Nid swaps are more your thing, I've gotten pretty good at painting them up
Sageheart, if you'd like to do that it would be cool I would probably add him to my Brazen Guard command squad, so long as he doesn't carry a heavy weapon anyways!
Gitsplitta, a pleasure helping keep such a cool thread alive.
I recently painted these guys. I've also got some other marines kicking around, mostly sergeants and the like, for Lamenters and another DIY chapter. I'd love to swap Marines with someone.
I'd be intrested in trading a painted marine for someone in their chapter colors... This would hopefully get me to try different things with other colors. I enjoyed painting my Mantis warrior for git's MW challenge. Also there was some great variations for Yellowbeards Fire Hawk Challenge.
I can still do a Lamenter if that is what you want. I have many more to do!

Anything in particular you want? gear or any color/chapter?
I'll start getting pieces together tonight
got class all day today but will try to get some pics up.
Sorry, I was all gun-ho then finals came around and I have no life again.
I will try to get some pics of my current level of painting up within the week, and then hopefully after finals I can really start producing models for this as well as my other projects. Still got full ogre army to prime and paint, and a IG army to organize...sigh.
Got your Marine today. Awesome. Thanks for putting a great model together.I didn't get a chance to get yours out the door. Was amazed by the 3page description of all the gear, history and iconography. And you wanted just a tactical marine? We'll that just won't do.. so I made a little suprise and will send it with my original trade.
I'll take some pics and post them after you get them.

Glad you like him. I try to make up for being only an average painter with trying be above average in regards to fluff and narrative.
I hope Pack Master Colburn helps lead your Lamenters to greater glory so that they might one day achieve true repentance for their actions in Badab.
810.M41: The Emperor's Watchdogs are enlisted into the Achilus Crusade to aid with perimeter security. The chapter is granted authority by the Ordo Xenos to raid courier and shipping vessels passing through the subject warzone that they suspect of transporting Xeno-tech, particularly that from the Tau Empire.
812.M41: The Lamenters enter the Achilus Crusade to settle an honor debt to Kazandus Lan, a Rogue Trader of considerable repute. Lamenters that survived the campaign were offered admission into the Deathwatch under Watch-Captain Brand. The remainder returned to routine Chapter activities.
901.M41: The Emperor's Watchdogs are reduced to a scant two companies at the start of the Badab War. Their Chapter Homeworld, Carceri, was targeted by forces loyal to Huron Blackheart for their prior history as battle brothers to the Astral Claws, refusal to join his cause, and proximity to the Badab system. Contact with the chapter is not re-established until 907.M41
904.M41: The Lamenters enter the Badab War, siding with the Astral Claws.
912.M41: Following the conclusion of the Badab War the Lamenters are sentenced to a 100 year penitent crusade for their seditious activities. At the time they had a strength of 311 Marines.
920.M41: After assessing Explorator reports from the fringes of Imperial Space it is assessed that the Lamenters may encounter Tyranid Vanguard forces from Hive Fleet Kraken within the next century. Ordo Xenos command makes note of the potential threat and begins drafting potential assets to meet the growing threat and augment the strengths of the Chapter.
923.M41: Pack Master David Colburn of the Emperor's Watchdogs, the equivalent of a Veteran Sergeant, is seconded to the Lamenters. Due to the psychological affinity marines of the the Emperor's Watchdogs display towards leading charges and literally coming to grips with their foes it is believed that Colburn would be valuable both as an instructor of potential neophytes and as an advisor to command personnel that might otherwise be unsure of issuing a valorous and brutal charge with so few marines at his disposal.
928.M41: Pack Master Colburn returns to his parent chapter.
(Sorry for the bad picture quality, I've been having issues with my camera)
Colburn's time spent with the Lamenters is readily apparent in his appearance. Where he once was armed with a Power Fist as was befitting his rank as Pack Master he now is armed with an Angel's Talon pattern Lightning Claw with the skull of some foul creature lashed to it. His Mk6 Armor replaced by a suit of Artisan-grade Mk4. His Carcerian Dirk, a form of dagger common amongst Chapter officers of the Emperor's Watchdogs, now carries an embellished blood drop... an obvious homage to the lamenters. Most telling of all though is the Pack Master's grooming. Where his hair was once buzzed down close to his skull and he sported the stubble of a man too busy to shave routinely there is now a head of shaggy gray and clean shaven jowls. Obviously the Lamenters have grooming standards for their command structure, at least in regards to wearing beards. The last five years must have certainly be stressful to shift his hair the gunmetal hue it now carries.
Upon his return to his battle brothers Pack Master, now Pack-Champion, Colburn was joined by Veteran Brother Barotous of the Lamenters. During his assignment Barotous served as orderly, handler, and interpreter of chapter customs. The two developed a close and powerful bond during their five years of service with one another and Barotous has expressed an interest in furthering his interaction with the Emperor's Watchdogs for anthropological and academic reasons. Certainly the presence of such a scholarly and erudite individual could only improve the admittedly brutish and impulsive nature of the Emperor's Watchdogs.
929.M41: While in transit to the Eye of Terror on classified orders from the Inquisition the Emperor's Watchdogs came into contact with a strike team from the Deathwatch, specifically a warband formed from Lamenters veterans recruited during the Achilus Crusade.
Their armor slicked with dirt, grit, and worse from their years of service; the rims of their pauldrons and crests of their helmets marked out in striking ebony to denote their service to the Deathwatch and pride in their own colors; the Marines had orders to join the Watchdogs on their current mission. Brother Barotous was assigned to the squad to serve as an intermediary between then and the rest of the Chapter, who better than one of their own kin?
I send Solar_Lion a model for Pack Master Colburn and a packet of fluff explaining who and what he was. Solar_Lion sent me back a rebuilt Colburn with enhanced wargear as well as Barotous, one of his own marines. I was already working on some Crusading Lamenters on my own. Barotous gets to hang out with them. >
I thought it only fair to share our little narrative with the rest of you... and I'd absolutely love to continue it should anyone else want to trade >:3
I still need to get a picture of Dust's original Cpt. Colburn. I thought he'd take one and post, but didn’t... So I'll do it later.. His represents his arrival to help support the training during the great crusade. Mine represents years later when the Watchdogs suffer heavy losses, He is returned to bolster his own chapter. Due to damage and heroic action the Lamenters re-crafted his kit while maintaining all the significant Iconography of his original Livery. After given a 3 page description of his trade I thought it was appropriate to do something more than just a tac marine. So I painted his capt. as he was when he returned to his chapter along with the original trade.. Probably the best face I've ever done!
Here is the original trade..Just a tac. Marine.
I’ll get a pic of his trade this weekend. Thanks for a great narrative.
Marines for Gitsplitta and Sageheart are assembled and primed. I'll start painting them tonight. I discovered yesterday, much to my astonishment, that I was virtually out of black paint... a situation which I have been quick to rectify.
I'm also in the process of composing some fluff pieces to go along with the aforementioned Marines. >:3
Marines for Gitsplitta and Sageheart are half painted (approximately) and their Munitorum Logistics and Reassignment Packets (yay fluff) have been written up. Painting should be done tomorrow or Monday so I should be able to mail them out this coming week without issue.
When they're done I'll contact you both about address and shipping stuff.
I mailed Marines out to Gitsplitta and Sageheart on Saturday and according to the receipt they were supposed to have gotten there tuesday. Any word on those?
>:L
The grumpy face isn't directed to either of you, or anyone else in this thread for that matter, but rather USPS
Got some photos of the marine i' trading to Dust. Isn't fully done yet but its getting there. Not the best pictures, but best I could do.
]
They don't show all the details unluckily. But I'll try to get some better pics when it is all complete. Stil got to put the gun on arm and paint it and do a lot of checkups.
I've received word that Sageheart and Gitsplitta have both received my marines. According to both of them both packages arrived late and damaged. Needless to say I won't be using USPS priority envelopes ever again. I have apologized to both of them. Everything seems fixable though, at least as it was described to me. If either of you need any extra bitz or anything just let me know and I'll send them out, more than willing to rectify this mess and really hoping to be able to add your marines to my collection in the near future.
Man, sorry to hear that! USPS is damned rough with packages sometimes!
I always recommend using little boxes for shipping. Gives you that much more support and defense from the rigors of USPS. Postal rate is usually around 3-5 bucks for tiny packages, even with tracking.
Alternatively, I've heard of people putting minis in pill bottles when they mail them in bubble packs.
I'll be back home in about 2 weeks and I'll have plenty of time to paint and build. I'd love to get in on this GMS if anybody is interested. Just let me know what type of Marine and what chapter and I'll whip something up for you. This will be some great motivation and easy goals to get me back into it.
Hi Dust, sorry... no progress yet, but then I haven't worked on anything of mine either. I promise that when I get rolling again, yours will be on top of the pile.
Got this colorful bastard from Sageheart. I'm curious to know more about the Sons of Talidiha, the Chapter's livery in which the marine is painted, if he is willing to share.
It is an old chapter invented when I was making an army with a good friend of mine in college. It was from the ultramarine gene seed and ruled over the farm world of Talidiha, we were building the storyline in game but they got delayed, the army wasn't finished and we moved to different coasts.
I enjoyed painting that model, though to try out the scheme again. Still got to work on it some more. I think a different shade of purple since the model might be too colorful?
Of course I have way too many watchmaker projects and nearly no time. Got an ogre army waiting for primer, and a true scale marine army to rebuild and repaint, and two imperial guard armies that need to be finished lol.
Seems the only thing I can finish is necromunda gangs lol.
I enjoyed painting that model, though to try out the scheme again. Still got to work on it some more. I think a different shade of purple since the model might be too colorful?
I think the scheme is fine, if anything I'd shift the purple to a lighter shade like indigo or lavender. I just saw another army here on Dakka, 2700 points of Ultramarines composed entirely in the old 3rd and 2nd edition sculpts and painted in the classical blue and yellow. Back in the day I used to play against a guy with a Pepto-Bismal pink Marine army and there's a kid at my LGS now with a magenta Tau army. I feel like there's not many people now doing armies that are genuinely colorful and vibrant.
I've been brainstorming/procrastinating on Solar Lion's Dark Angel. I've been going through stuff that's been in storage at my parent's place for the last 10 years and sorting out what gets thrown away/given to charity/kept out or put back into storage. A couple of days ago I found something old that's inspired what I'll be doing.

Think you might be right a lighter shade could work. Ill try that on next marine of this scheme.
Not many people do colorful armies, seems funny due to the broad range of colors marines decide to paint their armor. I had a friend who painted a beautiful female guard army with lots of pinks and purples. That was nice, in particular his hellhounds.
What a face.. " Get off my Damn planet, you meddling Kids"

Hi guys, i have ten tactical marines from my chapter. I'm looking to swap them for 10 other marines to create a "Crusade" mixed chapter tactical squad.

I'm still assembling Solar Lion's marine and I'm looking to see if anyone knows of a (SM or other) kit that might have a good crew cut/flat top type marine head. I found an old pic that's inspired what I'm putting together to a degree, and while the final figure will be quite different, that's one element I'd like to keep if at all possible.
Thanks guys. Dev head looks like what I'm after if he can look a little less frankenstein-ish in hand. Now to see if I can find one of those Dev heads. I think I only had the older box, with the metal weapons.

anyone wanna get in on this?
The intent of the GMS has alway been to push your skills in making and trading Marines ( or any figure really) The intent wasn't to get rid of what you have or just swap figures. You can paint those marines in other chapeter colors without trading. That is why we generally make new trades to challenge us and make it individually special ( This has all been said before on this blog ) Not saying you can't do any trading; Just wanted you to understand the intent.
I now return you to your regular scheduled blog....

Ebay bitz seller
Thanks, but probably not going to pay $8 postage for one head. I'll see what I can scrounge up from elsewhere.

understood completely, I'm just saying, i have a personal chapter squad, and would like to swap, for marines, of other people's great Chapters
I have received two marines from Lord Marcus and he has two of mine.
Kavika has notified me that he's shipped out his Imperial fist.
I'm still waiting on a marine from Gitsplitta but he was working on sorting through a hobby apocalypse last I checked.
I'm just notifying everyone because some things are accelerating with my work right now, hence why I haven't had a chance to post up pictures of Lord Marcus's trades yet. I'll also be taking a step back from the Great Marine Swap for a little while, just until I sort through some stuff and get my work projects under control. Just notifying everyone so that you all know what's going on. I'm not backing out of any trades or leaving anyone hanging, I just need to work on other stuff right now.
I wanted to do a swap before I vanished from Dakka. I am new to painting marines but, I am thinking of painting a Son of Orar for someone. (I don't know if he will be good or not as this will be the first time I've painted minis. I will give it a shot though.)
I am biased to wanting to receive a Lamenter though. They're pretty baller, and I want one for a Diorama I am making.
I think I will paint up this marine first that way I don't waste anyone's time. Then when it's done I will post pictures and see what others will trade.
Oh? I thought you made the Marine and traded it. I didn't realize the person requested anything other than the chapter. I misunderstood, my apologizes. I just started the prep work on this base and guy for nothing then haha.

Yes.. I am lurking. Doing a lot of travelling.. but very close to finishing Azazelx's Trade... PM me you address. also.. do you want to base him or should I?

Hey guys, I keep seeing everyone talking about the Great Marine Swap in all their P&M blogs and finally found this. Would love to trade with someone if anyone is interested. I play BA. Thanks!
I have some marines, I don't play any specific army but we play Deathwatch and I'm just looking to paint up some marines random chapter-colors and send them out for personal practice and others to enjoy.
If anyone's interested shoot me a PM, preferably leave the left shoulder off (or have a Deathwatch shoulder.)
I'd love to start taking part in this and it might actually get me to paint more.
The immaterium is a strange and tenebrous thing, a void beyond the bounds of space as man was meant to know. It can be traversed but never held for it moves perpetually in every direction. Its tides flow out to every shoal and to every knowable and unknowable coast before doubling back on themselves to compound and refract their forces back upon themselves. A continuous, ever-changing sea.
Brother Iwazaru, a veteran of the final days of the Badab War, had taken to the void. His assignment, as per the terms of his chapter's surrender, had seconded to a Battle Group Heroic. At the time the battle group was far away from Badab in the Malkira system working to deal with an issue involving an awakened warp gate. Iwazaru embarked upon a single-man craft and was born out into the warp.
Weeks passed then months. Eventually Iwazaru's cryogenic system ran dry and he was rousted from his frigid, chemical slumber. He had drifted off course, tossed carelessly upon unknowable tides as his ship had been sent tumbling for too long across the ether. Time itself is such an inconsistent thing within the warp. Years had passed in the real world while he had only felt weeks, weeks alone and hopeless. Iwazaru turned inward and sought peace through prayer and meditation. Eventually, through faith or through chance, Iwazaru found himself at the coordinates that had been dictated to him so long ago.
He arrived in Malkira only to find that his hosts had already departed. With a bit of cunning though he brokered travel after them. A Rogue Trader got him out of Malkira and a Q-Ship took him half way. The last stretch came from a Mechanicum Explorator vessel. At long last Brother Iwazaru was where he belonged. Task Force Heroic; The Cadian 55th, Sons of Antaeus, Iron Angels, Sons of Medusa, Ghost Bears, and even a cadre of Lamenters… also veterans of Badab… had been deployed to the Xukarath system to fend off a splinter of Hive Fleet Leviathan. Iwazaru found himself in the thick of an ugly, savage conflict that had expanded beyond the claws and fangs of the Leviathan to include myriad other Xenos and Heretical forces. Iwazaru had been given purpose once more… back into the fray, back into the thick of battle.
Took a while for this particular Adeptus to find his way from Gitsplitta's bench to my mustering grounds. A lengthy stretch, certainly, but he has arrived when the enemies have become plentiful. A surplus of foes from every creed and composition await him. Let us hope he has the fortitude to stand alongside the other Battle Brothers.
Praetorian! I'd be down to swap Check out my Angels of Vengeance, I can also post some better quality pictures of anything I have for you to get a better look!
I have the ability to make any kind of marine (tac, dev, assault) let me know!
I don't know the Great Swap is still live or not, but if it is, I'm interested in swapping marines. The Red Scorpions need to send their brothers out to fight for the Emperor.
