Aww missed it, I couldn't front a land raider personally anyway, I'm not sure I still have one anymore o.O

But I'm still up for marine swaps, interested in larger then marine swap but I'd like to try and avoid huge tanks xD

Hey, for my 101 page challenge Id like to paint up THREE land speeders for someone. Thats right, three

Ive been trying to get rid of them for forever, and rather than just sell them ive decided to lovingly fix them up and paint them for a GMS swap, anyone up for it?

(If not, I still have quite a few marines etc to swap, including 5 new PAGK I got from a trade)

So, I've set up a swap with Battle Brother Lucifer - Blood Angel Vet for Crimson Fist Vet.

Here's the WIP of theBlood Angel (or at least my successor version) Vanguard Veteran (though he'd make a viable Tactical Sergeant too)...

The Basic Model:

WIP painting...

Thanks guys, I've been painting while my wife watches Eurovision on the telly. Here is the (almost) finished Angel... There are one or two tweaks left to do.

He's called Brother Novo (which was the closest to 'swap' I could find in Latin - means change)

Cheers

@ Laney: wow, lovely job, nice rich orangey-red. Welcome, also, to this hive of insanity.

@BBL: don't sweat it bro. I'm afraid your Star Scorpion hasn't moved forward any of late as I'm kinda snowed under with marking (exam season) and will be for the next couple of weeks. Maybe get some paint time over the Jubilee weekend though, ok?

Been meaning to toss my hat in the ring ever since this thread started

I have a few spare marine bits floating around and am an average painter, so if someone wants to do a swap, that would be fine. Not looking for anything in particular (as my SM are truescale), so anything fun, like scouts, objective markers, servitors/advisors/wound markers/etc would be cool

Some pictures:

Ooh, plaguey

I got some paint time; he's not quite done (eyes, writing), but still happy to show progress and get C&C:

For Njal the Weatherman... Plague Angel Brother Noxus from the Dornian Heresy. He is a Death Company equivalent, with possessed (power) sword and toxin projector (hand flamer) The chains are to represent how he is held when not killing/infecting loyalists.

Head from Maxmini, vomit spray from Heresy, the rest is GW possessed or Death Company.

C and C on both the marines is always welcome!

@SilverMk2: I might be up for a swap after I've done these two.

Cheers Laney

I've always wanted to do a Dornian army. Maybe for Adepticon at some point. Looks very cool.

I'm loving that Star Scorpion marine Graven, really top notch stuff. That means I'm going to have to pick up my game a little when painting your GMS Marine. I Don't have much spare time as of late, mid year exams and all, but I'll try to make some progress as soon as I can.

Nice stuff there 02Laney that's one busy Plague Angel.

And SilverMK2 you mentioned something about objective markers?
I'd definitely be up for that. I LOVE Objective Markers! It'd just have to be a while before I have much time to start on it.

Cool Star Scorpion Graven. The guy has the look of a veteran who's wearing armour he's been fighting in for quite some time. The power sword is really nice (a 'molten' sword makes a nice change from lightning blue). The hair has been done really well too.

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/05/27 15:59:51

Post by: inmygravenimage

Thanks guys for all the support! Now who the devil do I owe this guy to ?! I'm very happy with the sword, a new direction based off an old idea. Glad the hair's a hit! Wanted an old wild man thing. Gits, your words are most kind - further pics will be up in my blog anon.

Very nice marine - the red skulls shouldn't work for me - but they look very effective.

Here's a plague angel update... The gloss is due to the new GW washes being a tad glossy (I'll dullcote all but the vomit)...

Lots still to do, but I'm quite pleased with how he's working out.

I'm in for sure now! do we need to just write what paint and mixes we use for him? and does it have to specifically be GW paints? also do we just put up finished models for perusal in this thread as well? I've just done a Flesh Eater for Whalemusic360 so I've been bitten by the paint for someone bug!

Does not need to be GW paints. just the formula. Put all entries on the FireHawk thread ( here would be cool as well - check with WM first tho )

And just so we are clear is this the scheme you mean: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110211020303/warhammer40k/images/6/63/Fire_Hawks_Marine.jpg ?

Hey, all, slightly amended rules for the Fire Hawk Contest...

Rules(slightly modified by YB):

1. Must be a single figure, No vehicles, No special characters etc.
2. Post pictures of your painted Fire Hawk in the Fire Hawk Project thread. (Feel free to post pics in the GMS thread, too!) Post must be clearly marked as a contest entry. Actually sending YB the figure is optional. PM if you're interested.
3. Must contain the painting formula. (I'm learning, and I appreciate all the ideas I can get.)
4. Color scheme chosen by the contestant, but must be a Fire Hawk. (No counts as a Fire Hawk, looks like a DA!) Either original color scheme (all yellow) or new Imperial Armour (brown/rust red with yellow shoulder pads) color scheme is acceptable. Variation and individuality encouraged! All details up to the contestant.

Contest closes on July 1, 12:00 midnight US Central Time.

YB will serve as judge.

Prize provided by Solar_lion - value not more than $50 not less than $25 (free shipping). Thanks, mate!

edit: due date added and judges amended.

That Fire Hawk is on like donkey kong!

Also nice to be crossing swords with Nerdfest.
Some additional questions:
- Yellowbeard, do you like bright and popping or (grim)dark and gritty?
- Am I correct in assuming that modelling is no part of the contest? So it might as well be a AoBR?

I'd say give about a month before the contest closes, that gives people that find out about the contest a little later a chance and of course the more entries the better.

I think the figs actually need to be sent to YB (eventually) as the point is to give him serious help in determining his paint scheme... he can only make a direct judgement on that if he's got the figure in-hand. Not a bad deal... one stray marine + shipping for the chance at a nice prize from SL...

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/06/07 19:04:42

Post by: Yellowbeard

Hey, TiB, great to have you on board!

Modeling is not part of the contest, just the painting, so whatever you want to do. (nerdfest did mention something about bits, though.... )

Color is up to you. What do you like TiB? What do you think Fire Hawks should look like? Here's the Fire Hawk Lexicanum page if you want more info on them.

Due date is July 1, 12:00 midnight US Central Time.

edit: changed due date.

Also, I suppose it's both about result and simplicity (or efficiency)? I mean I can spend 10 hours on this thing, mix all my colours from 3 different paints and do all kinds of wet-blends and freehand, but that won't make a good paint scheme or prototype for an army.

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/06/08 15:08:51

Post by: Yellowbeard

It can go either way, I think. For me, simplicity/efficiency would be nice. But, I'd also like to see you have fun with it. So, do what you think is best for you. If it is simple/efficient, great! If you get carried away but produce a cool figure, also great!

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/06/08 15:32:54

Righto, before i begin painting up a Fire Hawk marine for YB I must add my contribution to this amazing thread I have finally finished procrastinating and painted a vicious servant of the Emperor from the mighty FleshEaters space marines for Whalemusic360! I really hope you like him! he is painted to the same standard as all my FleshEaters in my blog so Whaley can see when he holds him in his hands what they actually look like! as red is a terrible colour to get an accurate photograph of!

anyway, here he is, Brother Pallus of the FleshEaters:

Don't worry though, I made up another marine for you!

Very WIP at this stage but you get the picture.

Hi folks,
Over on my blog I'm planning on running a painting competition of some sort. I'll be off dakka for a couple of weeks, so that setting a wee GMS holiday challenge would be in order. I'm not entirely sure what the challenge will be yet: Deathwatch or CowbOrks, I think. There's a lot of interest in doing one-off marines so DW is where I'm leaning. Judges will be myself and leadlegion - good to have a pro's painting eye on board, while I tend to be more about the modelling side.
Oh, and there will of course be prizeS to account for the swappable element of this
Interested?

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/07/11 20:10:57

Post by: Knightley

Question: how long is to long when waiting for a GMS marine to be sent to you? I've run into a small issue where I've sent a GMS swap to someone and have been told on a few occasions "Thanks, I'm base coating your GMS now i'll post pictures up" then nothing from them for months. Even with a few PM's from me to them.

I understand not every one is a fast painter, but I suspect I may not be getting a swap back.

@ Knightly - I am exceedingly slow, but (to the best of my knowledge) have completed all the swaps I've started. As the GMS grand poobah. We can try to work it out behind closed doors, or go public to assure they do not not-trade with others.

@ Graven - Do it. I dare you.

Post by: Knightley

Don't get me wrong, I believe I am quite patient, and there are only three other swaps I'm awaiting on.

The Dakkites of those other three swaps have been in contact with updates letting me know where they are up to or at least giving me heads up as to what they are at and there might be some delays. Those who are slow painters have made this clear as well in their communications and I accept there will be delays and motivation issues on top of that.

Early march was when I sent the GMS swap over seas and the last PM I got was mid June letting me know the base colors were going on the swap and there should be some pictures the following week, before that it was early April letting me know they should be done that week as well. I waited about two weeks and sent another PM just asking if there was any updates but as of yet have not had any response back, even when the user has posted on the forums after the PM was sent.

I guess my question is this: how long should you wait? 6 months? A year? Should I just be a little bit more patient?

Edit: I'm also not about to post who they are yet as I still believe I will get the swap back and the last thing I want to do is trash someone incorrectly due to being impatient.

Well, knightley, I'll comment as someone who's owed a couple of people marines for over a year and who's been owed a few for just as long.

In general, I try to let people know up front if I think it's going to take me a long time, and they guys I still owe models to are (ironically) some of my closest dakka friends. So they know they could put the thumb on me whenever they want, they've just been kind. That's why I've stopped taking on any more swaps... need to take care of old business first. Doesn't excuse my tardiness, but at least I didn't disappear on anyone.

I don't sweat the stuff that's owed me... if I get it, great! If not, there's nothing I can do about it... and I'm hardly in a position to throw stones. I've enjoyed my end of the project already and gotten lots of positive feedback & praise, so I've already gotten something out of it. One thing you might consider (and I've done this frequently) is make sure that neither of you send the finished marines until both of you are done. That way if one of you can't fulfill the obligation, neither of you are out anything and there's no misunderstanding. You still have the marine that you can either add to your own army or trade with someone else.

Sorry Fluffy, missed post. Yes, post a pic, which you have done, and interest. There has been some CSM in the past, not sure what the present field looks like.

I'm doing (or will be doing when I have started it!) a CSM for 02Laney at his request.

My part of the swap is an objective marker and three servo skulls (I've got the skulls - but can't think what the objective could be). Any thoughts Silver? Anyone else got some ideas?

I'm hoping BBL has got my vanguard by now (damn - still need to post pics of his ace Crimson Fist)

Don't know really

I have a Nurgle themed CSM army and a Salamanders descended army which uses the BA codex (for the jump troops) with a yellow and dark grey half and hald scheme if that helps at all

@Silver: A Nurgle themed objective is something I can definitely work with!

@BBL: That's great - I'm glad he made it - I hope to post pics also over the weekend

@Graven: The Deathwatch competition sounds cool - I might be up for that.

A scout marine for  glomscient

Mostly made out of IG parts and GS. Has crackle glaze drying on the base to start off a jungle themed base. Will be painted in jungle colours.

Sorry for sideways picture - on phone and have no idea why it uploaded like that...

Cool! The scouts are practically catachan special forces, so a voxcaster sounds (get it?) like a good idea.
I did the first step on the plague marine, he should be done after I get over the trauma of trying to paint my 28mm scale braincrusha (more like 57mm scale) It's almost too big to hold in one hand! I don't just mean the palm; I mean the whole hand, fingers and all! It has a cannon three fingers in diameter!
anyway, enough of that painting nightmare- thankfully, I still have enough white paint for the plague marine, luckily

Post by: SilverMK2

I was going to do the left shoulder in the regular chapter colours - what actual chapter do you use/want painted? As I said in PM, the only marines I could see in your gallery looked like Ultramarines, so I was going to do it blue with a small ultramarine symbol above the eagle.

And the vox on the back was actually meant to be a search light type thing

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/07/14 18:10:38

Post by: glomscient

They are actually cybermarines, though they are similar. The main differences are: black shoulderpads and one knee (probably not needed on this model, as there will probably be enough black from the camo),green trim, white instead of gold (unless it is particularly ornate or a weapon), and the power symbol (the one most likely on your computer) in scorpion green (or equivalent) as the chapter symbol. The more ornate version is a sword and a laurel, arranged in the same shape. I have never been able to do that on a model, though, and it won't really be needed for scouts anyway.
If you have any more questions, remember, I'll be here all day

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/07/14 18:27:37

Post by: SilverMK2

OK, that is cool.

I will see what I can do. I have already accidentally melted the base somewhat when I put it under the lamp to help dry the crackle glaze :S

Whoops!

inmygravenimage wrote:@silver; any advice on using crackle glaze? Ivevtried layering between colour to no effect. Any handy hints?

Mine varies between giving really good crackle and essentially getting a thick layer of smooth clear junk (which is what happened here ) - though I am using some pretty cheap arts and craft stuff, rather than model grade stuff.

The general suggestion I have seen is paint the base stuff, then crackle glaze, then weathering (generally an oil wash).

This is the best tutorial for crackle medium (not glaze) that I have seen

One of the reasons I don't like painting camo is that everything blends together

Still got a little bit more work to do, but the general scheme is done. I may change the colour of the cloth areas just to give some more variation.

C&C welcome.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
While I am waiting for bits on the base to dry, here is the painting guide for what I have done so far:

+ Undercoat kaki

+ Use a dark green/olive (I used a really old mix I did of, if I recall, 50:50 Chaos Black:Goblin Green) to do the first layer of tiger stripes using a 000 brush
- use light strokes to go at a slight diagonal - the best effect is to mix stripes with sharp pointed ends and blunter ended stripes
- Mostly do a lazy "S" or slightly wavy line, with the occasional "Y" shape, or small branching "Y" shape
- You want a reasonable coverage of these dark lines - maybe leave a gap between them of 1-2 times the thickness of the line, with each line slightly staggered, almost like bricks in a wall

+ Next do the same with Camo Green, though you want about 50% less stripes in this colour
- Get most of them between the darker lines, but the odd one touching or crossing/painted over the dark lines

+ Next do the same with Graveyard Earth, again about 50-75% less of these lines than the dark green
- You can afford to have larger, thicker brown lines than you can with the green

+ Wash the armour with a heavy layer of Devlan Mud (you may need two washes) to blend everything together

+ Wash the cloth with Badab Black

+ Paint the white bits with Rotting Flesh

+ Paint the white bits with Skull White

+ Wash the white bits with a light wash of Badab Black

+ Paint the face with Elf Flesh (for a lighter skin tone which I think would work on such a dull scheme - not shown here as I could not find my Elf Flesh bottle)

+ Wash with Sepia wash

+ Paint on streaks of your dark green as with the armour camo
- You can have the streaks further apart
- You can add in other colours here as well

+ Paint the eyes (Skull White with Enchanted Blue and Choas Black pupils in this case)

+ Use several Badab Black washes on the black shoulder pad (which should still be Kaki as it has not been painted) to get a nice black colour, or use a dark grey with a black wash

+ Paint the army mark in Camo Green, then go over in Goblin Green

Wow! I just hope I can paint that well
What color do you paint the metals on the nurgle scheme? Is it dwarf bronze, or something else?

Yeah, Dwarf Bronze with a Flesh Wash (or mud wash is probably closest now if you don't have the old Flesh Wash).

I got a box of ork bikes (OK, I bought this myself... kind of typical as I usually end up buying at least some of my birthday gifts and giving them to others to wrap). Mainly though. I got two gadgets that make my Foredom (flex shaft) much more useful. One turns it into a drill press, the other into a lathe of sorts. Both very useful and the lathe already was put to use repairing Thing 1's Tomb Stalker. So while I didn't get much in the way of figures... let's face it... I don't NEED new figures. What I got were some very useful tools that'll get plenty of use in future modeling projects and improve my ability to get things done! Gotta love that!

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/07/30 15:06:44

Post by: Solar_lion

Show us a picture of the set up. Tools are always needed.

Is Foredom a name brand or a tool description?

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/07/30 15:56:13

Post by: Gitsplitta

Brand name.

Here's my set-up from Rio Grande (great US-based jeweler's supply company). I don't know that I have the exact same model. The pedal control is critical as it leaves both your hands free to manipulate the hand piece and the work.

Flex Shaft:

Drill Press: (you just tuck your hand-piece into the clamps) Keep in mind you can put any kind of grinding bit into the hand piece... so it's not just for drills but anything you want precise control over.

"Holder" or half-lathe: (same as above, only you slide it into the styrene block and the vice crimps it tight)

These aren't cheap mind you... got the Foredom when I was making jewelry on the side (but professionally). Roughly $450 for all of the above. The drill press is actually quite an investment. You can get the Foredom and bits for about $265. Great tool though. I use it for mundane fine work as well as modeling.

Amazing looking Raptor Silver - I've been away for a week or two, so I've only just seen it. need to get a move on with your objective marker and skulls then.

Cool Weeping Angel Graven (where's the head from?) - very nice combi-plasma, but it could do with the barrels drilling.

@Glomscient - some cool conversion work on those marines - especially the chainsword.

Well the first wave of important bits have shown up and since I only needed a few of what I ordered I guess its a good time to start swapping again.

Right now I have parts to do some terminators, I might be a little short on powerfists but I have pleny of grey knight parts so I can get kinky in designs. Im not looking for any terminators in return but marines that I can use as deathcompany or some nifty objective markers or battlefield pieces would definatly tickle my fancy.

Soon Ill have parts to make some regular marines as well.
If some pics are requested I will be more than happy to oblige.

They idea is they make one of their chapter for you and you make one of your chapter for them. Folks usually custom build and paint for each other. It's a great way to push yourself and experiment when you don't have to worry about making a figure that matches the rest of your army perfectly.

Ah that's great.

I love painting but I don't really play, so I like the idea of sending off a marine/ork/chaos marine that will get used.

I'm still trying to find a camera so ill try to get a pic up!

So I had to clear out a lot of private messages, I know I have a deathwatch marine that I made for a competition/weeping angels libby that i am repainting [can't remember for who exactly] and a combimelta PF Sgt for knightly. Can you guys PM me with what we are supposed to be trading? If I remember, another was a veteran with a jump pack if I remember correctly...

Sorry for any delay and the now lost trade details. Just get back to me when you can. I was going to try and knock these trade marines over x-mas break in a few weeks.

Hello everybody. First post in a very long time.

Decided to offer up my abilities to anyone who's wanting to swap some marines, or just have one of their own things painted.

I'm proficient at painting the following:

Grey Knights
Minotaurs
Nurgle Chaos Marines (The Purge)
Homebrew IG (similar to DKOK)

I use an airbrush, so OSL and gradient power weapons are not a problem. If anyone's interested, please let me know. I'm trying to stretch myself and work on painting other chapters or other armies

Also hope to get a comprehensive blog up and running on here soon, so if you do want me to paint something for you, progress pics will probably go there, and finalized pics here.

Here's pictures of my latest stuff. Let me know on here or via PM if interested.

Hey guys, I hope I'm not too late to the party!

Here's a DA I painted recently, I guess I'm pretty happy with the outcome since I just began painting miniatures and wargaming less than a month ago. I tried to do a little freehanded laurels on his helmet which actually turned out pretty well!

There's also an alternate color scheme of Red/black/gold that I tried out. Not terrible, he was my very first miniature. If anybody wants a swap, or one of my guys, let me know!

Hey all,

I would also like to be part of this officially (got a GMS deal "unofficially" with Gitsplitta)

Check link in sig for my two current armies that I work on. In short it`s:
1) 13th Company themed Space Wolves army
2) Night Lords & Word Bearers

Both are heavily OOP/vintage

Personally I would like some a Possesed squad with a healthy mix of different chapters/companies, but other ideas are welcomed. So if anyone are interested please let me know, I`m up for the challenge

GitSplitta's marine is 95% done. I'm really happy with how this color scheme turned out, it's something i've always wanted to try. There's a few areas to touch up so he can look pretty on the battlefield, but other than that, he's ready for his journey to begin!

The Great Marine Swap @ 2012/12/06 16:12:57

Post by: Gitsplitta

Party-colored is NOT an easy paint scheme. Very nicely done!

(For those you you who are feeling slighted because I still owe you your marine... Patmandude agreed to take a marine I'd already painted in trade. It's an apothecary I did several years ago that just doesn't fit in with any of the versions of my army. I just need to fix an arm and he's good to go.)

Post by: Gitsplitta

Here's the fig I'm dressing up for Patmandude. I'm still working on the arm and the OSL on the plasma will go easier if it's not attached. Think it'll be a pretty cool upgrade though. His eyes still need to be done, I just got done blacking them out.

Little gangsta-medic action goin' on.

The marine swap has been fun and Ive been itching to really get back into it.

So to Leon, Patmandude, and anyone else I am so game. I got regular and some terminators that I offer up with a fun assortment of weaponry.

@Graven I havent forgotten about your trade offer of random bits for random bits. I just have no real need for random bits as my army is in wind-down mode.

Post by: Gitsplitta

All-right... Patmandude's apothecary is done. Fun little diversion. As much as I like to rescue old figures, it's funny that I finally rescued one of my own.

I should have made the plasma a different color... it blends right in with the rest of the figure! But... I think I'm getting better at it. I usually make sure to play a game with my trades before I send them off so they can be truly classified as full Mantis Warriors. However... this guy is an old veteran of many conflicts. I figured taking a pic with him and some of his newest brethren would be good enough.

@1-i ; I'm down for a swap! I'll send you a pm so we can work out the details.

@Git ; I love him! Have you given him a name? I really like his gangsta look!

@Red Skullz ; I saw a similar paint scheme in the SM codex, but with different colors. It looked really cool, so i figured now would be a good chance to try it out. It's pretty tricky to get clean, even lines, but it looks really nice when done! If I say so myself.

I haven't actually. I was going to give him something kinda rapper-like but to be honest that's not my genre so I'm not sure what's appropriate. I'd be open to suggestions if anyone had any good ideas. My early MW's all have Roman sounding names... so if someone could use that as a base I think it would be the most fitting and funny. "Brother Jazzy-Julius" perhaps??

Hey guys.
Some of you know me from the forums, yet some of you may not. I have been lurking on this thread for an awfully long time now, I just love it! the whole dynamic and principle behind it, it's fantastic. Here is my predicament.
I would love to get a piece of the action but unfortunately I haven't painted much so have no pictures to show off any work I have previously done.
I don't have the greatest of skills when it comes to painting neither, I have most certainly improved over the little painting I have done, but I'm not very good so you would have to bear with me.
My bits box has pieces, but not loads, nor do I have plenty of items around so again you'd have to bear with me.
This is all bad seeing as I would like a piece of the action and I'm sure I may very well be denied a slice of it until I had examples of work, more pieces and such but I would love to have a go, I would give it my all and try my best to get the appropriate pieces.
So, if anybody is willing to give this budding novice a chance please send me a PM. I'll be as co-operative as I can be.

Hey Gits. To be frank I'd love to but at the moment the only stuff I have going are Forge World resin armours (for example I am attempting to build my test model for my new D.I.Y. Chapter) but I've got no super glue so at the moment that's a bit of a block on my plans. I'll rummage a bit and try and look. Think I might try and finish my DV Cultists because I have already done a couple of them anyway.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well Gits, after your advice I done a bit of digging and actually unearthed these old things.

This is, well was, a W.I.P Termie from Space Hulk that I was painting. Not the best seeing as it's W.I.P but I couldn't find the one that was done and it's better than nothing right? Gives you a small insight into what I can do.

Alpha Legion cultists from DV. Here's a champion, one of the standard cultists and a W.I.P one which lies almost finished inside of my army box.

Not sure what to do or how to go about it but myself and Red Skullz have began a trade. I shall make for him a Wulfen and he is making something for myself in return (not sure what though). Just started him this evening. He has FW MkIII legs, shoulder pad, torso and backpack; SW head and storm bolter; WHFB basing kit skull base; and CSM backpack pole, shoulder pad and bolt pistol. here's a W.I.P of him, going to try and basecoat him tomorrow.

@Graven, I like it, he will be a fine addition to "suicide squad alpha." I've done some digging around my bits box and I can make a misslelauncer Dev but it will be a piece together I believe it will work out perfectly fine but at the moment its just an experiment. I do have grey knight weaponry hanging around if you would rather I make due with a psycannon or something.

@Red I have to bust out the old dremel tool but I think the results will be perfect for either wolfen or Chosen. Im really excited about what I have in mind for this and hopefully it will fit as I envision.

My bane... that's why I keep having multiple "final shots". I'm done... then, well no... someone sees something that HAS to be fixed.... then I'm done a second time... but no, still problems. Etc., etc., ad infinitum.

On a side note, it's really nice to see this thread fired up again with some new blood. Always so much fun to see people stretching their abilities for their fellow dakkanaughts.

Well as I had said Red, I nailed down and done a bit of painting today. There's not much done but for me it's actually a lot because I am a rather slow painter, my brother can churn one out in a day whereas it takes me probably 3 He is very far from being finished however, but anyways hope you enjoy him!

@Crimson it looks like I have to hit up ebay for a few basic parts to actually make some models. I got all the fancy stuff but no back pieces, "How does that happen?"

@The other three, I should have pics of things soon, like in the morning when I finally take the picture.

Wow, that Apothecary is awesome! The checkers look even cooler then I imagined.

I also concur with Gits, welcome new peeps! I may have to throw in some more Ice Angels once I finish my Tiger Claws. This thread really pushed my mediocre painting skills and I will have extra bits in the near future.

Sure no problem. I'm having trouble with my glue at the moment anyway (as I may have mentioned it's gone all.... awkward). He's only half built at the moment but I'll get working on him some time either this evening or tomorrow.

Thank you He really is far from done, obviously. But what I mean is I'm going to attempt to paint some more detailing on him and vary the colours here and there.

So, a little update here. Gits marine has been shipped out to him, so he should have that soon. 1-i; Your Chaos will be ready to ship out hopefully... by tomorrow or friday. Would have been earlier, but we received close to two feet of snow where i live, so as you can imagine, that has caused some delays. Pics of the Chaos tonight, or tomorrow morning!

Update again.

Sorry Red didn't get much done, some much needed revision had to be done yesterday sorry. Got some work today. Put a basecoat on the guns, a basecoat on the base, finished most of the backpack (lighting was horrible so I apologise if I happen to have missed some), put a coat on the shoulder pad inset, basecoated the Thousand Son arm (armour 'borrowed' from a Thousand Son of course, how else would it be Wulfen enough? ). There is a problem however. The back item seems to have snapped off when I was painting and I didn't notice so I can't find it so yes that is my predicament, unfortunately Red he won't have that back spike with the skull and due to that the wiring on the backpack is off because I had to clip it down to allow the back piece to fit on properly. Hope that's ok? Despite that setback I believe it is better because it makes him more Dark Abyss-al (my D.I.Y. Chapter). I also seek all of your help if you would permit it. I am stuck as to what colour to choose for armour joints and other such stuff, I thought of bone but that might be too similar to the base and hence may clash. Thoughts? Opinions?

Anyways, here he is so far:

@1-i: I hope to start your model soon. I want to keep doing Red Skullz Wulfen until about the weekend and come the weekend I'll finish assembling your Death Company. spray him up and begin applying the basecoats

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh god, just noticed I missed a few of the skulls just behind his one foot

He's coming along! Question, though... Is the armor going to be purple for sure? I like that color.. but that blue arm is clashing. Idk if you're intending on painting the arm to match the armor, or not. Just my two cents. Maybe try adding little details to the gun, to make them stand out more. They look a little flat. Good work so far, though!

He is indeed coming along. Yes, the Chapter's colours are those different purples with that very brighter purple/almost pink colour. The blue arm does clash yeh but the purpose of it was to make him seem more like a Wulfen seeing as the story behind them says they recycled the armour of those they killed to repair their arm. My reasoning for the blue was to represent it as Thousand Sun armour, as the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons were bitter enemies. This is all completely null however seeing as this marine is of my own Chapter, but I have a reason for that behind his own fluff so that's done-and-dusted. What would you suggest doing then Patman? The guns are also far from done. The silver will be washed, black for the bolt pistol and purple for the storm bolter. The brass on the face on the bolt pistol will also be coated with gold, I use brass as I find it makes gold cover better. Thank you for the critique however.

No worries on that part mate, that stuff happens all the time

I like how it all is coming along. If I where to improve something it would be some washes basically. Gotta love washes

Certainly! I couldn't agree more. I have all my washes lined up and ready to go. I leave that part until last because all the purple will be receiving the same purple wash. But yes, you do have to love those washes, they are a godsend

Ah.. Gotchya. The arm makes much more sense now! Also, I'm sure you're planning on doing this, but maybe paint the 'studs' on his armor. Maybe leadbelcher? Just to make it pop!

I am thinking of that yes. All of the ridges/trimming will be painted in the more violet purple as so it is more prominent but yeh I'll be painting all of the studs in Leadbelcher like the guns and the chest lightning bolt insignias. It sure does make it pop though, done it on another MkIII model a while ago.

Got some more progress on Red Skullz Wulfen done, not much but patched up a few things and painted areas I missed.

Got some other news however. Been working on a GMS model for both Daemonhammer and 1-i. And well, here they are in respective order.

P.S. Sorry for the poor pictures, it was a bit of a slap-dash effort.

Feeling jolly festive with all this gms-giving. Received a glory box from the lord of GMS himself, WM360:
Lovely toy (not WM's paintjob I should add, and I will be stripping it!)

Yay DW!

This BT bad boy's going to be my sergeant for my DW counts-as Long Fangs. Going to look great alongside Red Skullz 13th!

Also started wash layering gms for red Skullz:

Trying a different approach for this, pretty much all washes and glazes. If nothing else, it's let me quickly block in the main colours to better visualise it!
