That might very well be. I was once painting an ultramarine and used an Ice Blue for an edge highlight. Then I washed the whole model with Sepia and it looked likeI had used Fortress Grey or something to edge highlight the guy..

Both actually.

Either way works. You can hunt down one of the people that has been very active, or try someone that hasnt participated yet. BBL and Sageheart have been doing alot, may be a good spot to start.

i would do a mrine swap when i get my order of a battle force! it should be coming in a week or so, i ordered it through a hobby store i like cuz they are mad nice, but it means it takes much longer then going thru GW. they will send out the order on monday and then it should be coming in by friday hopefully sooner. i then have a bunch of trades to make, got to get a marine to an00bis and also do a special trade me and BBL have been working out. but i would totally trade a marine with youthen, just sorry for the wait.

what kind of marine would you want? i do two chapters, sons of luther and Sons of Talitha. one is yellow and one is blue respectivefully. i like the blue marines a bit better, but either is fun for me to paint. if you pm me and are willing to wait we ccan work something out!

Not yet. I will have one mace left over, and I think I will use that.
All the heads are already zerker heads, but one backpack will be a DA one (the chaos backpack broke off a long time ago)
If you would like a bolter, I can do one (that would be helpful for me actually, b/c I am missing a specific sided chainsword, and if I give that guy a bolter, I won't have to scrounge up a replacement arm)

I think Tony_nids_10, like myself, is a bit lost in a new army full of conversions at the moment.

Part of the reason I had to bow out of the Great Marine Swap was it was taking up my modelling time and I wasn't able to work on my non-marine projects

I still check every day to see the new marines and all the great homebrew chapters and colour schemes, its a fantastic way to see a ton of different techniques and styles.

Keep it up battle brothers! I hope the GMS lasts a good long while

Thanks BH, and yes I have been overly consumed by my new SM chapter. Oddly enough I started this chapter as an alternative to the one I was going to do for the GMS! As I have mentioned to BH and WM360 more than a few times (sorry for saying it again) I have a new job that eats 12 hours a day on an alternating schedule, 3 kids and a wife that eat up most of the other 12 hours in a day I'm amazed that I have time to sleep at this point much less make a new SM chapter. Thankfully there are some amazing folks here on dakka that have helped me out more than their fair share. Arakasi (and anyone else interested) head over to either the two Emperor's Shields threads in my signature to check out the progress on the chapter that will eventually end up being here on the GMS once I get it going! That said, BLACKHAND is going to be getting the first E'sS off the line!

Seconded - though I have, finally, got round to blocking in all the base colours of WM's little dude. I've been frantically building the Legion, and also got distracted by resurrecting my WM Pirates. And, at some point, I'll actually paint my guard

Hmm, this thread seems like its dieing.
I have an idea! Add Chaos marines to stuff able to be swapped! That way more people would post, and more traffic = more staying on the first page, thus more people joining.

I don't think its dying bBL, its just naturally slowed down. I've got three trades going down at the moment but they aren't on here that's all, I'm sure others are doing likewise. Plus you have to remember that to most of us this is a side project. If you look at nids or blackhand they're creating SM chapters from scratch plus all their other projects too.

Other minis would be a great swap just try to make a fair deal for bot people

I'm more then happy to add whatever it is people want to swap. A few have done IG and Orks. If anyone wants to add things other then Marines, jump on in.

I was afraid that I wouldn't have time for the GMS myself - that and *knowing* my turnover would be slow - I've only just started painting my first trade Thankfully - everyone has been very understanding/patient - a great combination of people to go with a great idea. Thankfully my current Orks modelling requirements are complete - just need more paint, and I can't paint more than 2 hours straight, so modelling is inevitable. That and I decided from the beginning I'd do two at a time - one for me and one for the swap - so my Orks aren't completely neglected... Long story short, I understand - and would hopefully be the last person to pressure anyone to do something they didn't want to! Thankfully there are some great guys on here doing quick turnarounds - I'm counting on them keeping the idea alive while I get through my queue

Will do! I rarely follow Marine lists, which is probably why I hadn't noticed it. Then again, I rarely follow Nids either... I'll keep you on my list (now at the top) and PM you each time I'm ready to begin my next - just let me know if you can't at that time and I'll move down to my next one.

Here is a WIP for Lucifer's marine! (I dont have one for brother_zach yet, couse it hasn't even been fully assebled yet. )

I'm pretty happy with him so far. I'm really happy how good the white turned out, concidering that this is my first time painting white since I was like 10. And when I was, I'd just slap one thick layer over the whole area, however, in this chase, I used 2 layers of thinned down Dheneb Stone, washed with badab black, 7 or 8 layers of slightly thinned down Skull White, Badab Black wash, 2 layers of thinned down Skull white to clean up. Took some work, but it payed off with a really nice helmet imo

You have to excuse the terrible photos btw. My painting station lamp just broke down so now I'm using a terrible yellow light-ish bulp and an even worse lamp(it kind of makes the yellow more yellow..) that kind of ruins my photos.

I came to the sudden conclusion today that I almost have 300 guardsmen. BBL is getting 6 boys that are part of that count and I need to know, Would You rather have lasguns or the cooler Bow and Arrow guardsman?

Insane conversion and size over quantity I'm afraid - this will only be my second trade, and the first isn't completed yet! (painting in progress...) Of course - my Orks have a defined colour scheme - so I'm having to go the Deffwotch route for my trades too - though Artsoldier35's aren't Marine inspired, they are more than welcome! Really cross about the mould line on the plasma, as I thought I'd got it, so need to clean and redo that. However, really, really pleased about the OSL on the knee and around the coil. Props to Timonth for the data pad idea, I have stolen this lock, stock and bolter barrel. Anyway - onwards!

Funny thing about this guy... I was painting the eyes, and got one of the best red ones I had ever painted.
Pleased with myself, i set it on my desk, when I suddenly notice that its not quite as vivid a contrast as the other ones were, when it suddenly hit me.

The close combat weapon on the dread makes it look funky now in my opinion

That is the part that I had the hardest time with. Fortunately, the whole arm is pined, so if Arakasi comes up with a better solution, it just slides off.

That's an awesome Dread. I think it will look great in his army. The perfect mix of marine and Orkiness. the huge engines on the back make the model.

The dread is rocking Whale!

IMHO it would look a lot more "flexible"(in a sense of killakans and Deff Dreads claws) if the claw was mounted underneath.

One thing that I've done is I've actually based every ones marines that have been sent to me so I think this is the first time they been shown completely finished. First picture is of Brother Walters, Brother Cohen, and Brother Evrard. Second picture is of Brother Aquilum, from the chapter the Emperor's Fools.

Does anyone remember the really static posed plastic space marines that came with the second edition game? Got two and didn't know what to do with them as they suck balls. So I got a bit drunk and I've succeded in slicing the little fella into component parts with a jewelery saw (great tool). so Ive got arms, legs, shoulder pads, torso/head. Bit of carving and GS required but I think I can give the guy a better pose. I will post when its back in one piece

We couldn't come up with a name for him , so I just named him "Gretar"(it says so on the ribbon thing on his shoulder pad.)

no he isn't, the chapter is from the raven guard. MY gf is still writing the fluff since it is her chapter. but so far the main idea is that there planet has been blown up due to huge chaos influence, they were friends with the inquisitor in charge so they were given a chance to take back their planet. By trying to take back their planet the violence and war ended up killing the entire planet!

hope that helps you with your fluff stuff. post a link here so that we can all look at it!

From what I have seen if Someone swapped out enough marines for other peoples, they could have a very diverse army of red corsairs... the old version of them anyway, ya know the ones with X's over the old chapter and imperial symbols...

Hey guys! I've actually made some significant progress on Araksi's bug boy and Gretar's objective marker (which is what he wanted in trade for his marine). I wish I could post my progress on the ork but it must be the order I'm painting it in or something, but I just don't feel that there's anything worth showing yet. I will put a photo of Gretar's objective to date on the objective marker trade thread though. It's my first attempt at sculpting anything so be kind (its really simple stuff but a challenge none-the-less).

Two comments here..

You'r pictures all of a sudden appear much better, and adds quality to the minis. The Son of the Ouroboros looks very nice, and only thing I have to comment on is his eyes. I dunno if its just the picture or not, but they kinda just blend in with the greyish colour of the armour. If I were you, I'd try yellow or red, but again, maybe its only the pictures. Oh, and , you a a moldine running across the helmet too. Splendid job however, I might even make another swap with you and get me one of these

Not, to my painting. No I cannot paint it before I send it out, becouse its already been sent out. Nevertheless, the wire isn't going anywere, so you have full permisssion to do whatever to it once it arrives

I painted the marine, but Gits did that awesome job with the base. It suits him so well. The marine btw guys is Dhenab Stone from a white basecoat, then highlighted with bleached bone. Though I suppose you could always finish with a highlight of crisp white.

@Sage, it concerns that he's not got to you, I hope he's not been lost to 'Mail-strom'. If he doesn't turn up give me a shout and I get another better marine painted for you. Don't worry about the delay mate, we've all had them I think.

Well.. the marine was primered with Krylon Russet Brown spray paint.. and I was able to find a matching paint at my local Hobby Lobby in their craft paint area, a Brick Red. Once the model was done being painted, I washed it with Devlan Mud.

The stuff I have for fooling around making bases and what not at the mo is milliput, you have a lot of similar stuff in the states I believe. Don't use green stuff as they do in a lot of the tutorials for your learning, just use that for your final pieces.

@ Imp. Monkey - You sir have a more important marine to do for me now if you're willing. Whilst milling around the interweb I have decided that what is needed within my army is a unit of Champions. Specifically Feast of Blades Champions. If possible would you be able to construct me an Emperor's Champion style model from the Crimson Fists? So suitably large power sword/axe with or without shield. Bolt pistol if you like too.

So I'm doing a Soul Drinker for Lenny, and got to thinking, should I switch my HL to SD? I havent started my own, but see a reason to do both.
With HL, I have Shrike and all the Ravenguard FW stuff to work with (they have the same logo as HL)
With SD, Chaperhouse makes some pads, and your friend and mine Blackhand made some as well. It also gives me a way to get into CSM as well as codex.

I think just from the conversion ability for deamon weaponry Soul Drinkers win. And as you have said they also allow you to tailor a list to play as either vanilla or chaos marines.

Also don't forget that the death company box comes with a few chalice pads to add a little bit of variety.

The fluff is much better as well. The HL have like 2 sentences to their name.

who are they HL?


soul drinkers would be cool, but tons of young kids do it i noticed, so it would be nice to see a really well made SD army and i think you could do it WM!

The SD are one of my favorite space marine chapters, just because I like the scheme, and the Soul drinkers novels are some of my favorite books from the Black Library.

Hawk Lords, a codex chapter in pretty much the same colors.

Soul Drinkers also means you get to do purple vehicles instead of boring ole black ones, lol

Yes and yes.... make sure they're padded out well though.

Porkuslimes idea of Pill bottles in a padded envelope works great. If its something like an assault marine, I use the smallest box I can.

yea or just bubble wrap in a padded envelope.

Legs seem to be a limiting agent on most of GWs armies.

Ya get a bunch of heads and a bunch of torsos for SM and Orks, but only a set number of legs.

Ok guys its my day off got nothing to do but to drop off some marines to the post office and well a lot of painting for tonight!. But thats not the deal i was going to give you guys! 1 first is Sicarius! its not painted and not glue it comes with everything.

5 Limited edition with thunder hammer! ok this one is like really rare so i would like something really good for him!

Hey guys here are 2 more marines! took me 2 hours for both of them! the normail tactical marine is for Gitsplatta and the second was one i made last night with something that was just horribly bad lol kinda my first conversion!

I love your painting style i cant get over it! haha great work! i love the thought with your last marine but the leg and arm look weirdly positioned but cool idea when you get it right!

haha yeah i was trying to make him kneel down but it didnt work so well maybe next time i have a really bad marine i can try again! lol

The right pair are one highlight away from finished (green that is, highlighting that is - the left is two - can you tell the difference?) I don't know how everyone manages to paint marines so fast... How does it look? Looks a bit Tron like to me so far. Would a green or black wash at the end be recommended?

Work for an hour before going to bed! they arent done but all the need its a little detail work and to make them sharper

SWEET! I am so excited. I am not sure what I enjoy more, trading marines and admiring other peoples work, or receiving packages!
