Haha yeah, I can also show the first model i ever painted? Its a Dark Eldar. Poor, poor Dark Eldar. I think I started with Warhammer when I was 10, so 7 years ago.

Got Ramos's guy today. Freehand is crazy good man! That also puts me at 10 marines, so once we get the game room set up (moved from one location to another) I'll grab a pic!

And here we have one of Porkuslime's "Gett of Freiki". This marine was a bit worse for the wear (more of a gift than a trade) having fought many hard battles in the name of the Emperor. However with a few tech adepts to repair the armor and... well... re-attach his arms... he cleaned up nicely! Thanks Porkuslime!

basically you make a deal with someone for a trade, then you paint up a model (usually you paint a bolter marine for a bolter marine, vet for vet, etc.) and then send the model to each other. It is based on trust but I believe everyone here is good on their word (that is to say i've had no issue.)

Thanks to you all for the lovely comments on my marines, what can I say, I'm lucky to have a good camera that can make me look good . Ice's marine still has a long way to go before its ready to send, its only base colours atm, but I'm getting there.

Actually its the second time I paint using this technuiqe, the first attempt being my Salamander TechMarine that I did some time ago. Its just constant drybrusing > Washing > Drybrushing > Washing until you get to the stag ef blending you like. Then I edge highlight the whole miniture and glaze some scorpion green on the highest areas. It turnes out quite nicely, the miniture just looks so dark becouse its very WIP, dont worry though, when it's finished it will appear to be somwhat more happy green salamander Although I think they are much more Grim Dark that one of those salad eating, happy, bright coloured, net T-shirt wearing.. you see were this is going..

On another note I'll probably be taking a break from the swap scene after I complete my outstanding trades. What with my dissertation, marine army, possible Sisters of Silence conversions and starting a Cryx Warmachine faction I'll just be too pressed for time. Though I do urge everyone to keep it going cos I want another piece of the action when I get back.

Precisely, normal spray white primer followed with 1-2 washes of Devlan Mud. I pull the brush over the raised edge of the rim to get a better build up, and that is it really. Then like you say pick out the details. Hope that helps.

However, he suffered a case of arm-loss syndrome, so I will post up a pic after his arm (and hand) are reattached, and the wire is painted.

Against all probability, my guy for WM is now finished! Will get a pic up asap.

Here are the latest additions to my unit. From left to right: Brother Reven from the Blood Angels given to me by Battle Brother Lucifer, Brother Nefas from the Sinners given to me by An00bis, and Brother Jaska from the Marines Chrysemys given to me by Ramos Asura. I am currently working on my marine for Lucifer, I had a WIP picture but it came out fuzzy. That should be done in the next few days, at least that's the plan.

I have the base for Sageheart's Daughters (Son) of Geddon, as well as a basecoat on the model. I think it will be a very fine model when it is done in spite of my usual diffidence vis constructing bases, when I'm doing work for someone else, it seems I hold myself to a higher standard than 'high tabletop'.

Here's a quickie of near-completed base: (this is the second base I've done that had more than paint on it. Really. I've never even flocked a base).

You know... one of the neat, funny little things about the package was the box that the doom eagle was in. While we certainly have CF bulbs here in the states, I've never seen a "bayonet cap" light bulb before. Are those common in your neck of the woods?

I made a trade with Artsoldier35 last week, but it was orks instead of marines. After the trade I got to thinking about doing an ork swap thread. Marines are cool and I have a small army of them but I'm an ork at heart. whalemusic360 told me there was some ork swapin already goin on in this thread. With the large volume of hits on the tread it wouldn't be a bad idea to throw a line out there and see if I get a nibble or 2. So if anyone wants to trade some orks I'm ready just let me know.

The crusader idea would work. I am not sure about the exiled marine business, but fluff wise you could easily have reasons for marines to get together and fight side by side, the only tricky part would be explaining who was in charge and why.

yeah that is the issue i am having issue with, why would there be commanders!

For the exiles marines, one of the Ultramarine Books by Graham has exiles in it from all kinds of loyalist chapters. Its the one set on the Iron Warriors world. Give er a read, decent book.

So this is where I'm at so far for my ork swap with an00bis. This is painted to to colors of my speed freak army. I have the arms primed and ready to paint just have to finish. I had the base done but it died to an unfortunate where the hell did I put it accident. If you see anything that can be improved on let me know. Oh and I need to do the highlights on the black still.

Thanks Art. Thats what I was hoping to achieve. Gonna have to duplicate it to a point. I want this boy in my army. Mine wont be as detailed though other wise it will stand out against the rest of the boys. Went with a simpler approach with the painting. or I could paint him up about the same and add him to my gorkka morrka mob. Only have 2 fig painted for that so far. I had just finished a guy for my own tactical squad, a bolter marine, and was just about to take picture of it but thought I'd show my dad first. I walk into the kitchen and there he is frying my a hamburger for dinner. So, I walk up to him holding the marine and let it go too soon for his hands to grab it. The frying pan was on the highes heat(9 out of 9 heat options) and the guy just vaporized in what seemed to be forever, but was only like 5 seconds. Ah well..

Alright! I am an Ork player through and through and have about 3K Orks in my growing WAAAGH. But there are some good folk out here who don't discriminate just because of skin color. I want to thank Whalemusic for opening up the thread for other model trades. He even signed on to paint some green skins for me and so, I voluntarilly offered to paint a space marine in any chapter color scheme he wanted. He offered up two color schemes to choose from and of the two I chose the Brazen Claws. Here he is and to Whalemusic, be on the lookout for him early next week.

Here is my progress on Arakasi's "Bug Boy" nob to date. Basic paint work is looking pretty done (base excepted of course). Have a lot of free-hand detail to add, as well as weathering and damage to the "looted" marine armor. If you look carefully I did add one gouge on the left leg and one on the left shoulder pad. They're OK... not great. Need to get better at this and get some ideas for technique. I know Migs and grey_death have done some fantastic work with chipping and wear on their marines... need to spend some time eyeballing their work for clues. Anybody have any suggestions I'm all ears.

You'll note that the blending on the orkified marine armor is actually better than any of the blending on my actual marines... LOL... typical. Actually I tried a new technique (for me) with the blending and it seems to have worked pretty well, so as with most of these projects... when you push yourself beyond your normal comfort zone... you usually end up learnin' something useful!

Thought I'd post this to give everyone a laugh & make y'all feel better about your green stuff skills. An00bis's marine needed an Inquisitorial shoulder pad for my Deathwatch squad & I didn't want to tear it apart to replace the pad, so I attempted to green stuff the "I" on my own.

It looks OK from a distance, but close up... uugh. Maybe I can find a good skull somewhere to cover the middle up.

it isnt awful, great try! i would look for a skull for the middle!

I won't waste another pic on it but I made it better. Thinned out all the cross-bars and it looks much nicer now. :-)

Ok monkeytroll here is a wip on the painting so for. So far just the base colors so far. no washes and and details yet.

Also as you can see I have done a little cybork conversion to it. With the choppa arm. I like how the skin turned out. Its not a green as the others I have done. They look cool them cybork weelies. I'm tempted to do something similar with humans and call them techpriests who've gone a bit to far with the body-mods.

Sage - I made a real effort to paint quicker than usual for the trades, but it's this final stage that always slows me down. That said, I'm not convinced by some of the paint-work on these two, may re-do a few parts, I really feel that work I'm trading should be at the peak of my ability and I can see several places where it's not up to the standard I was trying for, and I feel that may be due to me trying to push my normal speed. I don't think it's terible, but it's not the best I could have done, which eats at me a bit. Definitely no need for you to worry about how long it takes man, rl really should come first.

Cain - yeah, still like him For the loincloth how about reversing the colours and having yellow flames on black cloth - probably a bit late by now as uyou may have already started

Its a slightly old model (one of my first painted) So there are a ton of spots that need touch ups, I need to remove the mold lines, and give him a nice ink wash. He will look much better after his new paint job, I promise

Sage & schank - just some touching up and then varnishing for yours - no pics as I'm at work though. Varnish may have to wait till weekend, unless I get up early and it's nice out one day this week. Actually I'm opff work Wednesday, so hopefully then, and hopefully I can get some pics up too.
