I appreciate that mate, truly I do; I consider myself a rank amateur compared to you! Anyway, you're running the contest, you don't have to live up to anyone.
Btw I'm ignoring your earlier quartz comment
Viktor von Domm wrote:ohhhhh....that sounds nice!... i bet that would get most of us way out of their comfort zone!
Well, you can see how it's supposed to look theoretically there. I wonder whether - as intended - I should darken him down another step with a further nuln oil-ing, especially on the left (as you look at it) where the shadow would be deepest. But, that might look just daft. Some of the rust flecks just look like orange paint to me at present (which they're not, actually - I used the textured GW paint, and they're blobs of [i]that[/]!) but he is certainly getting there, and is close to what I had envisaged.
Does this show osl more clearly?
No, I don't know why it's rotated either ah well.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
the osl is recognizable... but as the lantern is much brighter i suggest you intesify the OSL a bit more...
and i agree to intensifying the shadow on the left... i think atm it looks rather too bright then for the effect you are going for...

the light ruins your probably good looking camo effect...
and i gotta ask, is a red corsair also worshipping khorne?... for my own entrance i couldn´t get a choas marine without the bunny eared skull head... so i am using this now...will this still be fluffy?
also... your OSL of the lamp needs another go
i know... i am mean
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Red Corsairs worship undivided, just that their colours are red with black trim. Also if not Astral Claws they red saltire through their chapter badge (as with this guy - any guesses?) Insignia is a clawed fist.
Also, I loathe and despise you...
Still pretty rough and ready photos mind you. Happy

loath me all you want/need mister... but see what happens? if i nudge you just a bit yoou make better pics
since i don´t basically know how to do OSL... still i think it needs another layer of warm color over the now brighter ones... to show it is getting its light from that lamp...right?
and with these pics now the camo effect is way better to recognize... in fact i may go so far as to say...well done
for all things choas i am still a blank... does this choas undivided basically mean it´s a free for all choas worship band then? no special worshipping one of the four then?
and i can´t really tell about your choasy guy here all his insignia are not really good to be seen^^

Right, well, head shots. You can see the tattoos left and right, and then straight on.
Kinda like that pose, it's like he's chatting to the King of all the Welshmen and saying "There's that bloke with the camera again."
"What about you, unfinished horde of Inquisition troops, what do you think?"
Hopefully, it's apparent when you see this that I have shadowed the side of the face somewhat, but I think I'm happy with where it's going. Seems like it sitting a little high though? Weird.

So, the end approacheth. The RC isn't done - definitely needs some tidying - but the MW is pretty much there. I have really tried to push myself - I hate doing hazard stripes, I can't freehand for tofu, and I've taught myself directional shading, amongst other things. I hope that the end result is worth it.
Also, GiraffeX is a very, very bad man.
Yes, that's a freehand Mantis tattoo. I watched the new Trek in preparation for seeing Into Darkness, and got thinking about Nero. So, now my MW has a name, too. Bit of light glare on his baldy head there, sorry 'bout that.
Ramped up the OSL further.

Thanks my friend. I'm actually really, really worried that the RC will overshadow the MW many ways, both in not being as well painted as the MW and also a distraction. BTW, the RC is a renegade tranquility-pattern MW, hence the yellow with black stripes (so he, too, has camo, techincally). So, I appreciate your kind words. The bolter is Mk6, as are his legs, pack and left shoulder (though you can't really see, I've gs'd the DA symbol into a , the torso front is Mk5 and the helm Mk 4 (my personal favourite). I am truly chuffed you think so although arguably then you thought that it was going to be rubbish!
I see soooo many flaws in the RC:
In particular - and tell me if you spot more - there's a little primer still showing through in a few places (inside his right pad, the chainsword (yellow overspill at hilt already addressed), at the hairline and on the pack at the... ears, whatever they are). Skulls need touched up too, but then they're not done yet.
Anything else glaring?

Knightley wrote:Haha, I can only imagine what its going to be like to move that monster around the house, you would go to pick it up and then apply band aids to your hands!
It's more that it still feels flimsy in places actually; the base I had for it (18"x14") is too small, so got to go up to 20x16 at least. The problem there would be I'd have to buy it, which is against my self-imposed rules (the other base being recycled from child's birthday). Having said that, more spikey bits required! I'm also dreading detailing the back as that's a LOT of bare plastic. Still, I have a fairly demented idea that involves styrene rods and chaos gun barrels. Oh, and skulls, naturally.
However, this is on hold - sort of - for the next couple of weeks as I have to do my marking for the exam board. However, I suspect I may need occasional sanity breaks!

Mrs G really digging all the cake love, if you haven't yet check out http://www.facebook.com/aweecake
#shamelessplug.
Marking for this exam diet about 2/3 done, need me some dakka! So, a bit of an update.
First of all, really stoked about Gitsplitta's MW contest. To have made the front page of the gallery was a huge boost for me - please, if you haven't done so, please vote (not just for me, the gallery always needs more lovin') I did get a bit disheartened when its paintjob score plummeted till I realised someone had given it 1s - let's assume they don't understand voting, rather than pettiness...
Also, off the back of that model (and my general style), I've been offered a commission job to a new High Elf army sea-elf style (grimy, lots of verdigris) - I'm not taking the gig, but to get the offer was a major nerd-boost.
I've primed the last of my PAGK:
And the storm raven/eagle that I've had for nearly a year for "Winged Death", my counts-as SW DW. Finally got paint schemes in my head for them.
Had a cracking game of SAGA the other night, realised I hate my peasant levy so invested in some LotR ponies to make more Hearthguard. If you haven't had a look at saga yet, I cannot recommend it highly enough. So far we've now converted 4 non wargamers and 8 diehard scifi gamers from our crowd to it. My next target is the regional MTG judge. Also, the ancients rule set just came out (and as with everything, models are interchangeable, so my various welsh and Irish become Gaels). Woo!
Started detailing the back of the shrine:
And more on the front too, but that's less obvious/interesting.
It's getting ready for primer! Don't know if I'll make the contest deadline tbh but I'm too far gone now to quit.
Also started on the various victims:
This guy will be strung up inside the skull's mouth. I'm thinking classic smurf should pop nicely.
And sacrifices to the blood pit:
This ork is my favourite. Everyone else is in agony - he's having him a cee-gar...
I also need to cover the cm-wide SNAP-X logo that's on every single piece. Sigh. Options, for your consideration:
1. I could gs it but I'm worried it'll just look blobby. Maybe as jutting shards of obsidian? Only problem is that may affect its playability (also, that many hard edges - even using grey stuff - are, well, hard).
2. An alternative is to use small plaster rocks or slate chips; neither of those help with the playability issue.
3. I also wonder about making a plate or 2 of some kind (eg a generic grate) that I can then mould and gs cast to press over.
4. I could just cut strips of styrene alternatively to cover - much easier, but dull. On the walls it's not been an issue - tank plates etc over them.
5. Skulls. Lots of em. Probably press moulded, just for quantity.
Hmm.
Or any other thoughts?
Hey ho, until next time,

So here's a pic to prove it, "Uncle John" Grabowski serving with a Mantis Warrior tactical squad as their heavy weapon specialist vs. the Xenos abominations that are the Necrons. He's hit every single time he's fired... unfortunately I haven't rolled more than a 1 or 2 for the armor penetration so he hasn't any kills yet. I knew I shouldn't have switched to rechargeable batteries in my las cannons... they just don't carry the power that non-rechargeables do! Unfortunately, the game is getting done a turn here, a turn there... so it's taking quite a while to get it done so I can send him on his way.

Actually today was great, finished all my exam marking in 7hrs of madness, then got an early Father's Day present to boot, which was a greenhouse and veg, plus pizza and beer.
It's the little things that make the world go round
Also, despite crummy pic, you gotta love the lego grates:
There are skulls on the floor now too. I marked out all the toy logos with white paint, and now I'm puzzling over how to hide the ones on the walls. Hmm.

Here's that SoB I'm building up: Here's the awkward logo: And here's the reverse of the shrine just now: Lego grates visible (bottom centre - zoomable pic) and everything! Yes, those struts are going to get rivets. Because the answer to every question in the grimdark is more rivets and more skulls. Also - would it be silly to mount lascannons in the eyes?

The chambers at the bottom: well, there's going to be more victims hanging up - I envisage the one with a door as a cell; I'm planning on having end walls that I can remove because, again, it's important to me that it be a fully playable piece of terrain. For that reason, the one on the other side won't have a mini-vignette (although I did think about it) - part of the reason stuff's so concentrated on the walls is to allow you to play through it. Also, remember that in the middle of the thing will be the sacrificial pit (which is also removable).

Also, I have a suitably demented idea. I'm going to cover the styrene struts with ~60 of the dragon maws (chaos gun barrels). Blame gits for (a) providing the bulk of them and (b) agreeing this is not a bananas idea.

Thanks mate, that means a lot to me. Faces are for me a constant source of stress, so much appreciated. One of the test heads will be getting used in this project also. Speaking of which: build complete! Frickin' lasers in its eyes and everything. If you're verrrry observant you'll notice that the back wall of the cell isn't there at present. Oh, here it is: Still need to cover up the Snap-x logo though. Bah. This will slot in post paint. Actually, this will also be getting primed grey rather than white, for the SoB. Likewise her cellmate who needs primed, and the other poor unfortunate soul (drinker): And the the summoning. The Exorcist is about to make it to freedom, failing to heed the guardsman's girlish screams... The SM has a mauled right arm that you can't see, and will get aforementioned tester head. The pit is a separate piece but fits on the four centre squares of the base securely. So, some progress! Hmm. Really need me some chaos black... graven

I saw him 3 yrs ago and it was a great night so pretty psyched. I really liked working on a dream, though I can take or leave wrecking ball.
I thought long and hard over coloured primer; in the end, I decided it was against my self imposed rules - admittedly I have since bought more black but it's the principle of the thing - only basic tools allowed.

Thanks Damo! The devil is in the detail, indeed. Parts wise it's standard torso, back, legs, claws and gk bare head variously cut down and hollowed out with mantic zombie torso, old old skeleton arm one side and a csm term arm (trimmed) on the other.

Hehe - you guys are basically nutters...
So, it's now all brassed up:
Just a first pass, you understand. I said to Dan (#1 son, aged 5 1/2) did it look good and he said, "Hmm. Needs red Dad. On the lumpy bits."
He's absolutely right. I'd planned to do the "shards" obsidian but a glossed-up red is a much, much better idea. I'll still do obsidian for the teeth of the idol and the pit, I think, but I reckon the kid's on to something. I'm planning on using mechrite, red wash and quickshade - yay, more experiments. Anyway, hope this gives y'all a sense of it.
Ended up getting my primer from GW, got chatting (as you do) to the blue-shirt, conversion turns to how long I've been gaming.
GW-drone: Wow. You must be much older than you look.
Me: Thanks. I have a miniature of myself in the attic.
Gw-drone: ... (pause, looks puzzled)... Um... Did you sculpt it yourself?
*Sigh*
It has been suggested, also, that I use this for an Armies on Parade display. Tempted, possibly with my GKs (let's face it, I have some painted) or future SoB.
Thoughts? Anyone care to share their experience of AoP? Not usually my thing, but I'm a sucker for flattery.
BTW, nearly end of term - one week to go - comparatively normal service will resume then,

Thanks mate. It's a nice premise - army on a scenic base of equivalent size to rob tile, voted by store punters. Winner gets trophy and represents store at gd, and the store winners vote for their favourite. Although I do think it's amusing that according to the rules "no purchase is necessary"

Corpses: well, yes and no, it has to be a playable piece of terrain. Also, with the pit in place (which has 4 victims) the relative lack of corpses is less obvious. Once it's painted, the plethora of body parts that are randomly scattered around will become more obvious too, hopefully. The prisoners are a sob, soul drinker and iyandendar so they should draw the eye, too.
More generally, I am really pleased with the temple, but I'm still at a loss how to make the flames look right. I think just metalled is the way forward. I have added more colour - blocked in blues, greens on all spike tips (jade/obsidian a la my gk weapons), and lots of white, but will wait till I'm a bit further along to show pics. Want to get the quickshade on the large red blocky bits first.
MLs were not working and I was playing around with a pile of bits - they just came together nicely. They look surprisingly realstic for grimdark; i hate the pipe organ exorcist model and I had to find a way not to buy another kit to strip for parts. The next challenge will be sobinator #3...
GW employees - I can't be too harsh. One of the lads in our local GW is a former pupil of mine and a good lad, the manager's a good guy too. But their minions should be yellow and wearing goggles (soeaking of which, off to a preview of Despicable Me 2 later, possibly more excited than the kids!)
And also, on the subject of GW employees, one of my closest friends sent me a pic of my birthday supply drop. He used to be a GW staffer and eavy metal painter, now runs local flgs.
This it so far... Disregard the Ben folds album, that's mine, but to me that looks like a big old pile of nerd crack!

I need to make sure I include as many nods to as many of my regulars as possible. There's a good number of SM helms on this thing already (if you're observant, you'll notice the start of a Tranq MW, a Firehawk, and some others too).
There's also a 1-week extension on the contest, thank gods, so I might actually get it done!

Awesome socks Graven. Love that shrine.
Thanks for coming over to say hello when I was up. The plan had originally been to catch up on the Battletech campaign over the weekend so Tuesday would be free for chatting and mingling, but that fell through.
Was great to see everyone, even if I didn't get a chance to chat. Not bac up until Xmas now I'm afraid.

Hey Graven!
You're blog had been at the very top of my 'to read' thread for ages! I want to be able to tell you that I've just finished it but there is something within the pages that is very incompatible with my phone browser. I've persevered but I'm putting my hands up and giving in now, I've asked Lego to look into it so hopefully he can sort it out. Until then I'll join your from here on in.
From what I managed to see I really loved your Marines and your current projects look great too, keep it up mate! I'm working on a little 40k army so I can give you that game one day!
Happy Birthday for tomorrow!

@Vik - Yeah it's going to kill me
@selvaggio - Graz' on both counts!
@Casey - I'm honoured to be such a troublemaker! Marines may make a return with 6th ed codex, and I suspect there may be some in the birthday aid package from StoneyBoy
A good day all round. Made, and ate, a lot of curry, with a sizeable chunk of mrs g's family.
Also, there was cake, and lego by the older boy
Issues with scale, clearly a future with GW for that lad.
Tomorrow, work. Boo... Still, toys, cake and pizza. Huzzah!

Definitely one of the highlights for me, that. If I fancied running a PH army, the fact that I have a razorback and an annihilator is certainly a lure.

That's about half the metal; I haven't gone through the SM yet, really. So far I've found Heru for Wargods, classic metal bloodthirsters, a whole lot of csm, classic daemons, a bfg ship, mysterious chaps on horses who might haradrim?, some FASA sci-fi troops, vampire counts characters, a whole bunch of metal aspect warriors etc, some mordians, a ratskin gang plus assorted esher, orlocks and spryers (woot!), flagellants, some old deldar, lots of metal trolls and a strangely diminuitive giant, halfling cooks, grima wormtongue, an old Ordo Termie (huzzah), some very cool grots, some kind of warmaster dragon, and some 54mm Inquisitor figures.
So far.

Well I've gone through the metals. There's a ton of stuff.
So decisions, decisions.
There's a playable sm army there. Some cool metals - classic techie, captain and chaplains for instance - which I may pillage, but this is essentially an army I can pass on to the kids. Box up, into the garage.
Csm - likewise there's a lot there, along with daemons. If folk are after classic metal khorne daemons though I could part with.
Munda - tons. I now have gangs
Eldar- I haven't fully catalogued these but mostly aspects,I think these could be up for grabs plus avatar, wraithguard, and some plastic guardians.
Fantasy stuff I really don't know what to do with lizardmen or the vampire counts. All the undead will no doubt be handy as bits.
If anyone has any requests from what they can see, lmk. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and I will put pics up of stuff anon, I needed to tidy or the wife would murderise me. There's also sealed old hex pot glazes.

Post by: Dr H
Looking really nice.
The obsidian pit of fiery buggery death is really good.
The freehand is not all that bad.
I found for freehand on this scale it can be helpful to think of painting it in the same way as you would a model (Dark Base coat, main colour, highlights).
And the smaller it is, the more important it is to keep it simple (which I think you have), trying to do too much in a small space can make freehand look a mess.
And bare in mind the scale and how it's viewed, the smaller something is, the more we of the internet will zoom in to see and we all know that also enlarges all the little slips. But if you stand back, as you would for a game, those little slips don't show.
I like that big yellow-ish skull with the checked horns too.
Not sure if the guardman is screaming or doing the Macarena.
He's going to pelvic thrust that daemon to death...

On the subject of making things from PC, I was pleasantly surprised to see the PC mock-up of one of the silly big guns for apocalypse in the current WD. You could essentially use it to (shock horror) build your own.
ah... thanks mate... and i think i need to have a look at that WD then... i am not regularly buying it...but i will have a look
and sorry mate... that angle provides no new info...
In no way could I send you a scan of the relevant page if you wish. Also, :p

Gitsplitta wrote:Can someone remind me exactly what a Storm Eagle is again?? I mean I know it's an imperial flyer... but beyond that what does it do?
225 pt flyer for SM, DA, BT, SW or CSM, ceramite, assault vehicle, PomS, carries 20 and has 4 HPs. Fast Attack (heavy for Tyrant's Legion), twin-linked HBs (or mm/typhoon launcher), Vengeance Launcher 48" S5 AP4 heavy 2 large blast, can take Hellstrikes or twin lascannons. Popular in Badab war, apparently...
It's probably one of the most heinously awful kits I've ever assembled. You may remember me ranting about it this time last year; to their credit, FW were very good and asked me to take pics of mine so that they could stick them up for quality control purposes.
Mine is "Aquila" pattern because (a) I've added a bloody great eagle to the front and (b) I've had to add more plating to cover the awful gaps and there's parts that gs and pc just can't hide. 'Sides, it can have reinforced armour.
So, yeah...
Aquila-y. For my Deathwatch, a Weeping Angel one (that won't look out of place with said weepers).
Satisfied? graven

Been away for awhile and HOLY COW!
Shrine looks fantastic! A fine use of Prisoners / donations to Blood God.
Does your gaming group use a fair amount of Forgeworld?
Looking forward to seeing the Storm Eagle finished. The paint style makes it look like it is moving fast while just sitting there. Well played.

where did that painted model come from all of a sudden??? I am stunned... the faded and slightly looking like cloudy sky look is rather more well done than I would have expected in that time frame!...wow...how?
and well... if you happen to have said copy in hand and would trip over next to your scanner and as a million to one accident you would place it out of sheer terror of hurting yourself inside the scanner and then hitting the button to steady yourself... then the outcome wouldn´t be for naught

Hey buddy nice to have you back. The shrine was fun but hellish, I've got a kill team game planned against khorne horde set for next month which should be fun. FW: it's not so much that there is a lot of it, more that no one minds, more a Ooooooh factor! Great bunch. Glad you like the scheme!

I shall try not to trip over it tomorrow. The paint scheme is a bit tedious but very simple, progressive drybrushed edge highlights with Vallejo turquoise.

Wow, folk really seem to be digging this - not that I'm complaining!
Some marginally better pics, that show the plastic surgery more clearly (or hopefully not)

Nice job on the glowy orange bits! Nice counterpoint to the blackish blue.

Thanks guys, the orange was a risk but I'm glad I went for it. There is a lot of tidying to do on the lights especially but I'm finally feeling positive about this beast and then I can have fun with the base. Something xenos methinks! Also got a storm talon to go with it so there's that to look forward to.

is it because of the flash or that you have done something else to the bird now that almost all blue has gone except the edge highlights? i miss the cloudy look :( it looked like black marble or rather obsidian...hmmm....

Ah, no, flash curse! You reminded me actually, I feathered in from the edges with the drybrush. I'm going to try to get the talon to this point today.

oh.... that scheme really works for me!... and yeah the flash really kills so many stuff some times...
the lil flyer looks rather cool already... might be due to the scheme of course
the bottom line is... i don´t know why the current pic of the bottom of yon storm eagle looks that way? is that weathering? or what?

Post by: inmygravenimage
Well, it's an assault flyer, a proper LR with wings, so the bottom is filthy (and the image overexposed). annoyingly, the starboard wing assembly has just fallen off completely and my glue is clagging up. Rage. On the plus side, a wrecked SoB rhino that I got for a steal on fleabay is now soaking in dettol, hopefully to shift the glue as well as the paint. Oh, and if anyone has a spare rectangular rhino top hatch (the one for the razorback/predator mount), I'll give you gold, or something.

I have two of those little buggers that I plan to escort a certain Storm Raven onto the battlefield. Of course nothing is painted (or even assembled) yet, but that's the long-term plan.
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
ah... understood... actually i never bothered to look up certain items in the lexicanum... should have done that before... would be helpful
as for glue dangleberries on the bottle... i just cut everything away and if inside the pipe is still glue then a thin wire or needle will help... if we are talking plastic glue here then pushing the clogged stuff in will solve it up as the clogged stuff is a mix of PC and glue...if it is superglue... well then just cutting it off will help...not much harmfull stuff there...tho wearing gloves wouldn´t harm either
and you´re still overdue to my chaosy stuff care package... i was just over lazy to go to the PO... but i doubt if i have any hatches left... but won´t PC save the day for this mere task?

Post by: inmygravenimage
Not of all of us can punch a hole like you Vik don't sweat the caring chaos package, I'm in a good position just now for bits. Apart from that hatch, which is actually for a separate plan... Which leads me neatly into my next question: flight stands. You may know that I hate the things. The last one got dressed up as an explosion. This time I'm thinking of dressing the thing up as one of the following: Some kind of tau or necron "pylon" Some kind of imperial building strut A pile of orky junk/rickety tower. Again, I like the whole "flyer skimming over the very top of building", but maybe it's silly in this case. Any thoughts? Sorry, I know that's vague
24297
Post by: Viktor von Domm
the last option is always a good choice... but actually the necron tau one strikes me as more interesting... the imp thingy... naw... overdone...and i would leave just a tiny fraction of space inbetween... otherwise it would look as if the bottom would just drop out of it

Post by: inmygravenimage
Hmm. There is a version of this in my head that has a tau flyer crashed into said pylon...

Ho-kay, so,
Some progress on the bases.
First, this will probably be the base for the Eagle:
Obviously the white is me marking out the base of the thing. It will be rubble strewn, as if burst from the ground. Also, more general paneling will be on the thing, but the principle is what you see just now.
The other side, with the Talon for reference.
And the other base:
Again, with the Talon:
I've also had a fairly productive morning insofar as I've darkshaded 4/6 RoB Tiles (have now run out... a tin does 200 figs, or 4 tiles). This will then need to get a matt varnish too, but I'm generally pleased and it's nice to have some father-son projects to do, especially as the board is ultimately for us all to play on.
Later peeps,

with bases like that you double the models worth methinks
man... have you no mercy for xenos stuff here? just brutally chopping up these poor vehicles?
and the pylon is looking remarkably good... i hope there will be some fading light effect on that one...you know... that hole you left there? like Automatically Appended Next Post: oh...and nice idea to mark the places with white markers!!!

bases look good. the added fire warriors add to a touch of realism.
i also agree with gits if i have had the patience you do with bases i would produce better projects lol.

Thanks mate, just remember that you're getting a bunch of these for your Storm Raven too! Btw, you're absolutely right, I now realise I absolutely need a second Talon to balance this out. I'm almost tempted to pick up a Dark Talon for the bits... Viktor von Domm wrote:with bases like that you double the models worth methinks man... have you no mercy for xenos stuff here? just brutally chopping up these poor vehicles? and the pylon is looking remarkably good... i hope there will be some fading light effect on that one...you know... that hole you left there? like Automatically Appended Next Post: oh...and nice idea to mark the places with white markers!!!
Meh, I never like to make life easy for myself. Wait till you see my plans for Seraphim... And mercy? Sounds like HERESY to me that does The pylon is definitely more of a successful build than I'd anticipated, I think that you could actually use the flying bases to make great eldar bastions, though. I do plan to have glowy effects on the pyramid one. alabamaheretic wrote:cool project with the boy would like to see how that is shaping up. bases look good. the added fire warriors add to a touch of realism. i also agree with gits if i have had the patience you do with bases i would produce better projects lol. Once they're dry I'll throw some pics up Yeah, random acquisitions are awesome. I had some deldar kicking about which nearly made it into this but they got scavenged by erithromycin instead. So, here they are on their respective bases: I like them this way round, I think the Eagle looks very menacing and I buy into the Talon just hovering. However, the Eagle is *not* stable on that base. Here's the reverse, which shows the extensive pc'ing of the back of the "pyramid". And the alternative. The original plan was for the "pylon" base's necron components to all be painted as one, whilst the "pyramid" was to have a glowy rod up through the middle. Will that work, or look weird? Should the rod of the "pylon" be glowy, or should the "pyramid" not have a glow stick? As for paint scheme, the Tau are to be purple with turquoise which hopefully is not too similar to the DW (thoughts?) and the crons muted grey/browns - but I'm open to suggestions. I did consider very bright Tau at one point, and ultra-white Necron too. But, yeah, give a buddy a dime here, cos I'm a bit stuck. Oh, and a random aside - I got the servo-skull of mention-worthiness in the League's terrain contest! Hurrah! Go check out the entries and awesome winners here! Anon, graven

well... congratz you old git!... you´ve won!!! if you don´t fly the banner in the next ten minutes you will find that we also make quite nice garters from your innards ... so much for mercy in these lands
as for the base choice... yeah... the last one looks off... the other way around definitely look not right... and maybe you could add even some weight to the base as well?
after al some sand inside the hollow models couldn´t hurt?
and if the puple is more dominant than the turquoise then the tau scheme could work...
and no... no glowy rod insde the pylon... would make it look as if the pyramide would "shoot" at the flyer...

Good work on the bases. Good ideas too.
Purple and Turquoise work well and yellow is quite a good spot colour to go with that.
And good point Vik about the glow of the necron thing.
