For a long time I have wanted to convert a Skaven force for use in 40k and after some inspiring stuff I've seen on Dakka lately I have decided to take myself up on the challenge!
In keeping with the GW tradition of adjusting names i.e. Elves to Eldar, Orcs to Orks etc. I have chosen to call the force "The Skave" and although I would love to create (and probably will)
a custom set of rules for the army for all intents and purposes I will be making units to fit the bill of Orks.
As a test for the project I set out to make Two unique models one a Flyer (war buggy) and a Rat Ogre (Mega Armor Nob).
Both of which I have completed today (though not painted yet) and thought I'd share them with the community and document the armies rise from my imagination to actuality.
So I began with my purchases
I then took the rotor blades from an Ork copter and with the Doomwheel's existing parts I created the Rotors. (Now I deliberately kept the wood look as it will fit in with the fluff
I am drawing up for the army).
Some assembly was required from here on in
I'm sorry the shots are so blurry I will add new cleaner ones just before I paint
Then I went onto the Rat Orge, now I don't have step images for this however the end result was a good one and though I still need to fill in the chaos symbols he is shaping up nicely!
C + C welcome
More pics to come over the next day or so as I paint the two prototypes and then build more, the next step will be to create a working troop choice form engineer parts and this and that.
I'll join the rest of the gang and say that's a superb use of the doom-wheel Look forward to more space-rats, although the more people start these the stronger my cravings for 40krats get.
This is a concept that I have given thought to in the past. I was toying with the idea of using the Chaos Codex as a base, however, the clan nature of the "Skave" does lend itself to Orks.
Keep up the great work and post lots of pictures!!
Yeah I will try and get some better photo's today they were taken late at night with bad light and a phone camera with no flash (I've lost the charger on my actual digi camera)
The good thing with the new Skaven range is that a lot of the tech lends itself almost straight into 40k, the engineers are a perfect example of this.
I will be going for: 1 HQ 2 Elites 3 Troops 1 Fast Attack 1 Heavy Support.
HQ - Warboss (I'm leaning towards "Skeaklord").
Elites - MegaRats & Commandos "Eshins".
Troops - Ard Boyz "Storm Guard" & 2 x Boyz "Slavies" (I intend to make the Slavies from all sorts of models including Skaven but also Imperial Guard Orks Tau and Eldar.
Fast Attack - Doom-Wheeli-kopta (DefKopta with a Kustom Mega Blasta and Big Boom might make 2 of these).
Heavy Support - Def Dread "Warpstone Construct" (40k version of the Horned Rat).
I will be modifying weapons and making new ones then casting them with resin so the war gear should look unique to them, I am trying to keep a scavenged/salvaged look to the gear
which is why I kept the Kopta's original wheel surrounds (wood) and everything will be powered by chunks of Warpstone.
and of course a slice of
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok so as promised some cleaner pics of the flyer and rat orge
I still would like to do more to this maybe add some computer screens and extra controls etc.
The helmet on the rat orge will have the ear flaps as is common on Skaven helms I also want to add back banners to him and a bunch of rats on his base then finally I will beef up his gun arm and add more furr
as the look I will be going for in the end will be the plates embedded in his body more than as armor worn over it.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just as a side note the idea for the flyer was for it to land the rotors would simply fold down and it would be an updated Doomwheel again so the rotors are both landing gear and the flight mechanics.
Much better!, I like how you will be able to get 3 meganobs out of a two ogre box! ( and a box of bloodcrushers of course)
Minor criticism would be you may need to tidy up the GS a bit so it looks more like fur.
Are you going to leave the weapons as they are on the Doomwing (see what I did there ) or are you going to mount ork rokkits for WYSIWYG?
The original is a modified Ork shoota with the ammo pack replaced with a large rough stone chunk and some piping the barrel was cut back filed shaved reshaped and well that's about it
I then recast it in resin.
A better pick with a wash over the gun you can pick out the detail, the gist of the weapon is a large chunk of warpstone feeds the power to the weapon basically a yukky version of plasma
one more side by side, I have to re do the mold as this was my first attempt and I have learnt a few things like air vents are good and to do the mold in two sections using an oil or separator (not on the model as PinkySil only bonds to PnikySil
like all Silicone products). which will make the whole process faster to cast and easier to re-use.
As for the GS - ing I'm pretty new to it so yeah I do need to go back with a finer tool which I will do shortly, I really rushed it so I could see if the concept would work, I will add a new layer of GS and work it in form there I think.
What are you using for tools?, I use a hobby blade and paint shapers, and water rather than oil for lubrication as oil gets in the way later when you get to painting.
Yeah I saw his two part tut the only issue was he used a non drying medium for the mold which will distort as it never sets and it's also a hard medium (even when hot) which risks damaging the conversions.
According to my local Barnes guy if I fill the mold halfway let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes and then apply an oil or petrolium gel it would be the simplest way of making an easily reusable mold with simple seam-lines.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I used the GW molding tool and the tips of files though I have some dental tools now and water all the way
Cool, take pics and if works I would be grateful if you could post em to my casting tutorial, it would be great to get a new method up there.
I personally just cast the model into a chunk of silicone with vents on the "top" then cut down both sides with a hobby knife to free the master, the silicone seals up nicely and is ready to have the resin poured in! rubber bands are a good way to keep it together when pouring OR if you use lego for a casting box you can just rebuild the lego around the mould and pour the resin in the top.
btw I like your idea for the floating chunk of ruins as a vehicle make it feel like a 40k screaming bell mind if I steal erm borrow the idea
And sure if it works fine I'll upload pics of it and the results as well, how do you combat air bubbles my first try was hideously filled with tiny air bubbles which in the end
undermined the whole gun (I crushed it while trying to remove it from the mold).
When I pour the silicone hold the mixing cup a few inches above the mould box, as the silicone dribbles out in a thin stream the bubbles in it pop.
When pouring the resin I use a toothpick to pop bubbles and force the resin into nooks and crannies.
Unfortunately without a pressure box you will never get rid of all the bubbles, this is where GS becomes your best friend I spend a lot of time filling in bubble voids with GS
Oh and feel free to borrow the floating ruins idea, I may return the favour by stealing your Doomwheel idea its really simple and effective.
BLACKHAND wrote:

I will be using this one as having a Kustom Mega Blaster (which suites the model) however I am going to add additional rings and wires to link the chambers (barrels)
and I was also thinking about adding some capacitors to it to show the weapon charges then discharges I will be adding them to the front (you can see the spot where the three gears are under the gun).
so 6 in all.
Basically just to bring it more into the 40k world oh and I will be giving the engineer a screen with radar etc.
I will be attempting to build the first of my commando's (Eshins)tonight I will post how it goes
Think moving shadows with the odd limb/claw/tail poking out with weapons attached doing Parkour across ruins and debris
fingers crossed it turns out.
I have also begun rounding up my slaves and I'm about 1/3 of the way though casting the custom guns for them (including a new cast with a combat accessory).
On top of that I have begun a fluff story and I am beginning to fill in the codex blanks to create a pdf of the army-list all rules included (remembering I using them as Orks).
BLACKHAND wrote:Very nice Santobell, The GS cloak is great has a good flow. It's hard to get movement like that in cloth, Keep it up!
Cheers on that mate, I really want these guys to look like they are on the move, they infiltrate and move like shadows so the wisping robes are essential to the look IMO I'm going to have some classic poses like leaping sideways over a fence and the knee-tuck obstacle leap. But in the end these guys will be the least 40k looking things in the army.
I'm also working with very limited models at the moment, I should be picking up a box of Storm Vermin at the end of the weak and I have begun assembling the other race models for the slave units (Eldar, Orks, Imperial Guard, Tau and one unlucky Space marine scout) all will be shackled or bound with manacles and collars and lead by a Slave herder (Nob).
I will also be changing the Warpstone construct concept from a Vermin Lord to the floating ruins as we discussed earlier it's a great idea and one that deserves attention in any 40k Skaven army.
Oh and I just found out I won my bids on some of the IoB Skaven on Ebay so they'll be here soon which will give me my Warboss and my nob template.
That is some excellent modeling, I love the warpstone fed gun. You aren't just gluing skaven heads on guardsman, your doing it right. I will be following closely.
MADLarkin wrote:That is some excellent modeling, I love the warpstone fed gun. You aren't just gluing Skaven heads on guardsman, your doing it right. I will be following closely.
Cheers mate it's great to hear comments like this about the work you do, I'm a huge Skaven fan (my first GW army was Skaven) I really just wanted to do them justice!
Long ago I made a squad of Skaven for the golden daemon comp out of clan rats and space marine parts, and although they were nicely done I hated them in the end I withdrew the entry and binned the models.
They just don't look right, it's not how they would do it.
The Skaven Tech is always ramshackle, thrown together from everything and anything they can get their hands on SM (and other races) parts alone are just too polished which is why when I made the gun I opted for the custom
look with the chunky stone embedded in it,
I'm also sculpting/customizing new guns for the slave unit with the same idea, the weapons the slave would have been captured with have been altered, hack, re worked and fiddled with to include these warpstone chambers,
feed piping, new scopes, modified barrels and more and on top of that the exposure to the Warpstone cores will alter the non Skaven as well so these slave models are going to be really fun to make essentially butchering all the other races and putting them back together but restrained and sick or twisted lol rather than just putting a standard guardsman with a standard lasgun it just doesn't feel right.
(Ok weird side note my spell check flagged Lasgun and when I right click to correct it one fo the options was Flashlight).
I have customized some heads for my slave unit and began making the mold etc to cast more when my 4 year old struck and destroyed the mold (thinking it was a bouncy toy)
so it's start again on that one ha ha.
Big day at work tomorrow so I'm hoping to get the slaves on the way as a unit sometime Thursday, I will post some picks as they are ready.
Ok so I remade my head mold and started to recast the heads for the slave unit and now I think I'm back on track, fingers crossed this weekend I will be able to get my hands on the Storm-vermin and my boss and Slaver driver should also get here in the post.
In the mean while I have been testing colors schemes and I've painted up the flyer so you can get a better look, now I may still do more to it I'm thinking some kind hinge on the rotors so it can fold up and be a Doom-wheel again and a mod for the gun at the front to make it more energetic like arching bolts or something like that.
and I have base coated the Eshins Commando.
Here's some pics!
Heads
Ok so this next pic is my inspiration for my version of Blackhands Floating ruins tank TM (cheers for giving me the go ahead ot do my own version Black let strive to make it a standard among 40k Skaven armies).
Sort of a 40k version of the Screaming Bell except this will be a broken lighthouse with a beacon not a bell.
And I really need ot get my camera with a flash workign again this phoen cam does nto do the models and paint jobs any justice at all :(
The Doomwheel is nasty in Warhammer because it shoots ye olde lasers (lightning) which is basically the norm in 40k it's has the weapon discharge which suits a mega blaster type gun (or las/Zap cannon) the big boom upgrade allows you to (fluff wise) have some overload weapon.
A lot of people look at it's infamy in Warhammer and try and find the deadliest thing it could possibly be in 40k when really it's a sentinel or a landspeeder level of weapon
as the orks lack these (well they do have war buggies but I wanted an armor save not a stat bar) defkopta it is.
Though good suggestion Tyranids were one of the first armies I thought about when I started the idea but they were just too different, then Ig finally Orks. In the end I ran with Orks after speaking with the guys at the Perth GW store
where we came to the consensus Orks felt right if I wasn't doing IG. (We also decided that my next Transforming 40k Vehicle should be a Valkyrie Starscream... someone save me and my hands of converting hell).
That lighthouse will look great, I have also considered putting tattered sails on my ruins to simulate the steering mechanisms the skaven use to guide them, not sure if it will be too nautical though
Wow this thread broke the 1k views marker which is all kinds of awesome thanks for supporting my madness everyone.
Timonth wrote:That flyer is insane! love it
Cheers I got the idea for it while contemplating getting a Warhammer army thanks to Isle of Blood I was staring at the sprue in a photo online and said gee that would make a nice rotor off some kind of flyer for chaos (or a star-gate looking thing for some scenery). Then the evil little Skaven that lives inside me said no no build a Skaven army for 40k and well I don't need a lot of convincing to attempt such things and well here we are.
Update - My Isle of Blood heroes arrived today so it's back to the conversion table to come up with a really cool warboss, I'm also now 4 pages into a fluff section to append the Ork codex to use them with.
I need an oppinion I was thinking about doing a tesla style to my armor for the rats and on the vehicles just to techafy them and make them a touch more scifi
like this well sorta like this,

I'm working on it I lost my data cable for my camera and my notebook's reader does not take the card nor does the one on my printer or my extra one lying around (thanks very much Olympus) so I'm kinda screwed for great photo's atm.
Though I'm going to have a big dig about tonight and see what I can do.
Oh and my Rat ogres are on hold until I can dig me up some more Green stuff as I decided I didn't like the first one and have since dismembered it the next will be the same idea but done right how my tiny annoying brain sees it!

I'm going for large Tesla Coils and glowing warp crystals and beside when have you ever heard of Skaven steering ha ha
oh and
Warlord in progress
Chest with Tesla coils and new pistol
assembled
A shot of the new gun held by his tail
again sorry for the crappy pics it happens every time I take shots at night they never turn out well.

I will post pics of the painted warlord a little bit later today I added a bionic eye some wires and better caps on the coils
This weekend I will be making the trip to the local hobby shop to buy supplies to make the lighthouse which I am looking forward too.
My thoughts are to build it and then recast it in resin sol I have a much more stable base to build from when I start painting etc.
in case anyone is wondering the Lighthouse will be a similar size to a Necron Monolith but will use the rule set of a battle wagon.
I am also woefully low on green stuff so I will also replenish this as well then start on the ogres again the vermin lord and the storm vermin.
It hasn't fallen over yet (cross fingers) but the final base will be a small patch of ruins so it will be pretty solid I need to finish the Tesla coils for it and then finish the paint job
before I do the base though.

Cheers again, I wasn't going to put these pics up as I'm half way through making it but here is the final for the rat ogres (the early pics was a simple proof of concept).
Now I've completely run out of GS so he's on hold but hey the warlords stil unpainted so I thought I'd at least get a C & C basically he's bigger, growlier, better fur and bigger gun, now he will also have the Tesla coils poking out of his everywhere but I will wait for the GS to set so it doesn't crumble when I drill into the shoulders to place the coils (which are screws with cable bound around them).
Automatically Appended Next Post: Not finished but the warlord is a bit easier to make out with a splash of color on him so here you go C&C welcome as always
monkeytroll wrote:Lookin good, like the pale, sickly green you're using. And I'll be pinching the screw/cable idea for some coils on my cyborks, cheers
1. The trick is cut the end of the wire/pvc tubing on and angle
2. Glue it to the head of the screw
3. Once it's dry put small amounts of GS down the screw (with a great yellow to blue mix so it's hell sticky)
4. Then tightly bind the cord around the screw the GS will help hold it and will also fill the gaps,
now one other thing I learnt the hard way is use a screw not a flat bolt so although PC screws seem a good idea (size wise) the have no point and are harder to attach to the model.
5. Drill a starter hole in the model and screw in the completed coil allowing it to tighten the cord squashing the coil together
6. Trim the base of the screw so the wire doesn't just poke out or end in nothing (alternatively you could gs a base for it if it's mounted in skin instead of armor)
7. Then finally glue the coil to secure it in place.
I should take picks and do a tut on it.
BLACKHAND wrote:The Rat Ogre look better already, cool to see how fast your GS skills have improved, keep it up!
Cheers mate, I think the reason I'm getting good at GS is the shear intimidation of that Vermin lord your building I mean geese man that thing is nasty/spooky/gruesome/awesome all in the same breath!
Ok so I've been quiet these last couple of days, I haven't been hiding I've been waiting for parts to continue my devious work on the Skave army Having been resupplied with GS and also getting my hands on some storm vermin I'm firing on all cylinder to make this army a reality.
I will add pics of the Storm Vermin (ard boys) and the Warplock Jezails (flash gitz) shortly (I'm still casting their guns in resin)
First up though is the completed Rat Ogre (Nob)
In Greens and Greys
The Gun Arm
Giant Screws well not really but they make great caps for the Tesla Coils
Front on, Dakka made the pic a bit dark but you get the gist
Enjoy... Jezails should be next all things right with my molds!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and this one to demonstrate scale of the new 40k Ogre
Ok so I started with the idea of making Jezails but drifted from that to some degree the Jez's are a specialist ranged weapon team so I began to skim through the Ork list to find something similar and although Jez's are powerful they are no Zappgun so I came across the Flash Gitz listing, tkaing the doc and adding Blasta to the weapons gives the unit a uniquely useful quality they shoot, they are hard to kill and their own guns can explode and kill them for you sounds pretty Skavey to me and so with the Storm vermin as a base and a heavily modded Ork shoota I recast the gun and added 40k accessories to each model to bring them up to date the result though not overly techy is very good.
The squad includes the Engineer (Mad Doc).
To clarify what some have asked of me in PM, the idea behind the army was to bring Skaven into 40k Uniquely in doing so I have chosen to keep their old styled look and focus more on the reasons why.
The Skave (as I'm calling them) are a race of scavengers and thieves most of the tech is looted from some unsuspecting victim and then modded with warp stone or warp stone induction systems (the coils on my nobs and boss's armor)
but at the heart they are still a non tech race, still powered by Warpstone and it's ability to conduct and transfer energy hence rag clothing yet shooting guns anything else would almost ruin the look IMO.
That said they do have some tech and like in WHFB it revolves around the warpstone and it's more a mystical thing slotting them into that Unique mold I was looking for as the only other really magical race is Chaos and even then they are very very techy.
They travel by hitching a ride on someones star-ships performing Skitterleaps from ship to ship as they cross paths in the warp or out to reach a destination. The nature of the Skave's Vehicles will be detailed mroe as I begin the building process for them.
Starting on the rest of the ogres this weekend then onto my regulars Squad (Regulars are ork boyz in rule form but on the tabletop they are made up of Mercs slaves convicts and just about anything that can be forced/paid/convinced to fight).
looking great - The colour scheme is neat, simple yet dirty - like you would get if you lived in the sewers and had never heard of a washing machine.
These really come to life with the painting. And I love those energy feed lines
Minor update, I've been busy with work and the kids today but I did manage to start on the Storm Vermin squad having built the power claw for this model and customized an existing plasma gun to be his Warplock rifle I am pleased with the overall effect, he should look pretty good painted and on the table top.
oh and ignore the Dreadnought Cameo in the BG he's in for repair after a nasty wide + shelf accident aka typhoon Wifey!
The Skave look awesome. The flying Doomwheel is awesome and your rats have original cool looking guns. I like your massive rat ogre, keep up the good work.
Who knew rats could be so cool. Doing a great job. The coils are kind of different but I quess a giant rat army with guns is diefferent too, so in a diefferent way it all just comes to gether.
monkeytroll wrote:Stormvermin looking good there Santobell, liking the powerclaw, and the colour sheme looks ace.
Must..resist..making...spacerats.
Yeah you can resist for now but evetually it eats away at you until you have to tackle the task.
Red Corsair wrote:Ha ha, I have crap loads of Skaven and guard laying around and it has been torturous trying to avoid building Hrud myself!
Skaven in 40k are sorely missed, the plans I have for this original army are beyond even my own understanding. I'm re-writing the Ork codex from cover to cover including backgrounds characters and stats (all of which will reference back to the original book so it's officially playable) with a friendly game section at the back for a more Skavey feel of play - only issues is Hrud are swamp thing style reptile people
necroplayer wrote: Cool 40k skaven!!! What rules are you going to use them with (guard, latd, etc)?
Orks... why... not sure seemed like a good idea at the time...... no not really, a lot of people set them up as Eldar or Imperial Guard which they do suite (minus the loftiness and the tankage) however I felt the mob mentality and fumbling technology of the Orks lends itself well to the style of play one would expect from a Skaven force. They do get a little tougher than their WHFB cousins but a few millennium and massive exposure to warpstone plus selected breading/genetic manipulation easily answers that boggle.
Gathering Storm wrote:The Skave look awesome. The flying Doomwheel is awesome and your rats have original cool looking guns. I like your massive rat ogre, keep up the good work.
Unfortunately I'm having issues with my molds for the Storm-vermin guns so I haven't been able to finish them off as yet and as for the Doom Wheelie Kopta it's about to go under the knife for a major upgrade but it's a super secret (and I will be making more normal koptas like the original).
The Eshins (Commando's) are also about to be reinvented into less robes more ninja rats and soon I will be adding Big Gunns and Tank bustas (Lightning cannons and Globadiers).
Lightning Frog wrote:Who knew rats could be so cool. Doing a great job. The coils are kind of different but I guess a giant rat army with guns is different too, so in a different way it all just comes together.
I'm thinking about capping them off so they look less screw more coil top but I'm of mixed minds the large screws are oddly different.

Now that I've caught up and to show I'm not sleeping on the job... here is the little monster I've been working on... My vermin Lord!
Now it's still early days for him, he's grays and greens but C & C are welcome.
Looks really cool. One suggestion though, clip the sticky out finger off and modify it to be curled round the axe shaft. I must say that I really like the head, excellent GS work.

Yeah I did actually mean to do that but I ended up painting him instead lol so here is some pics top show how he's coming along.
and finallly a Space Marine POV shot just before he got eaten!
oh and a size comparison Vs LoTD Ghost rider and a Cadian IG trooper.
That Verminlord is great! I wondered how well a DP kit could be converted into a V'Lord...and its awesome!!
Once again the speed at which your GS skills have grown is blowing me away, it always makes me shake my head when veteran painters say they don't have the skill to use GS, You've shown that with a bit of vision, research and work you can get great results.

Cheers mate I was a bit worried about giving myself the task of making his head but he turned out goo. I deliberately left his eye sockets empty though originally I did put eyes on him it just felt wrong.
I felt the same with my VerminLord, having to have a demarcation between the flesh in the socket and the bone surrounding it seemed like it would be a problem when it came to painting as well so I wne with all bone. I think it looks creepier anyway!

What rules are you going to use for your V'Lord?
Well to be honest he's basically for show, in a fun game I was thinking some kinda of demon say the greater demon of Slaanesh or perhaps Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka though he wont be WISIWIG.
I've been working a special project for the army the last day or so.
Unfortunately that means no picture updates, I will get time to paint the Storm Vermin test today and I have completed my Merc squad (the 40k equivalent to the slave units in Warhammer) which is made up of
20 soldiers in total 10 Imperial guard Ex Patriots "Carters Corps", 3 Ork Commando's ""Da Broz Grim", 4 Kroot "The Karnaks", 2 Eldar Pirates "No Name yet" and the Pay Master "Snitk" these need paint and then I'll get some pics up
In a friendly game they will work with the rules form each separate codex including unit cost and wargear but in a by the book game there a 20 man squad of grotz.

You MUST do a Lizardman one that would be awesome little floating Aztec pyramids with giant frogs piloting them across the stars if I wasn't about to start a Dark Eldar army (lets face it who isn't the new models are F-ing unbelievable) I'd tackle that project np at all.
Ok so I've been busy in the really real world and havent had a lot of time to get things finished... but...
I have redesigned the Doom Wheelie Kopta and begun build my sepcial project tank which I was not going to reveal until it was painted but oh well here we go anyway.
Smaller and closer to the rules set.. more WISIWIG
And now the Tank which will be a battle wagon I call it a Tunnel Rat (hopefully not a tank already)
the concept it a tunneling tank that uses an energy field projected by a spinning chunk of Warpstone to tunnel, I am contemplating removing the middle section and replacing it with one massive chunk of Warpstone
I would love to hear what you guys think.
now it's early days but I would like some C & C on it
Looking really nice. I have to say I preferred the original ratcopter design, but the new one's far from bad. The tunnel rat tank I think will look really nice painted up, I like the idea.
New deff-kopta loks pretty cool there, but I have to say I preferred the first version I know it's more in line this way, but still...
For the tunnel-rat, my feelings would be a passebger compartment in the middle section, with a huge, pointy, spinny, spiky chunk of the good ol' warpstone stuck out front.

Good news then as I intend to keep the old Rat Copta but it will be used as something else I am also toying with the idea of having a dirigible of some sort to be used as a fighta bomba but all the ideas I come up with end up looking like a poor mans dark eldar raider well. bar one and I'm having trouble with the plasticard not wanting to shape properly for me.
It seems like Lord of Change and I will be doing a Slann army afterall, with the Hypno-Toad...er...I mean Slann Mage-Priest as a Farseer on Jetbike (or Eldrad). And great minds obviously think alike, as I was planning on making Ziggurats (pyramids) out of Polystyrene for use as Tanks.
The Tunnel Rat looks great and I quite like the re-designed Deffkopta as well.
BLACKHAND wrote:I'm going to throw my vote in for a dirigible as well, a couple of rotors out to the sides made form doomwheel parts would be great!
The tunneller is coming along really nice, what weapons are you gonna throw on it?
This is the sort of thing I had in mind but instead of a big balloon I would have a huge chunk of warpstone ( I did try and build this but I struggl;ed to make the armor on the top of the airship I would love some input of materials I could use).
Commander Cain wrote:Can't wait to see the digger progressing, I was going to mak one for my upcoming DKOK. You seem to be getting plenty of use out of a single doomwheel!
I purchasd the Doomwheel so I could experiment with different looks and vehicle styles then once I have the golden note I'll purchase a couple more and build the things I liked and needed the most so yeah waste not want not lol
I will also be arming the Tunneler with a Zappgun and small arms plus that niffty steam-roller blade.

I would love nothing more than to be on their concept team, sadly I don't hear them hiring atm so I will remain here on dakka and build ridicules converted armies for the giggles of it... cheers for the words of confidence matey thanks
Very minor update, I have begun painting the Merc unit for the army (my first troop choice) this is the 40k representative of the Skaven slaves from Warhammer. to give a bit of a backdrop for this;
1. There are very few Skave left (for one reason of another)
2. They are rich from eons of black-market trading which leaves them in the position to hire the extra numbers if and when they are required to take up arms en mass.
So here is the first nearly finished set from the unit "Da Gruff Broz" consisting of Izzy Gruff, Tu Gruff and Wuzzy Gruf.
I've been slow in the process lately, my main excuse for this? Well I was recently visited by the emissary of Nurgle (my uncle btw) who gifted me with a nice does of plague which has left me sluggish and with a big case of the CBF's (Can't be F@&$%#@ed's).
So although it's a few photos of the unfinished look, I thought it was time to show you how the Storm-vermin are coming along.
The unit is designed to have a ranked feel so the guys in the front have hand weapons while those at the back have the Glaive for the long reach over the forward troops to get more numbers into combat
now rules wise this means nothing but it themes the squad.
oh and I still have extras to add which will bulk them out so they stand out against the Jezails and Slaves
BLACKHAND wrote:Very nice, makes me feel guilty for not getting my Stormvermin finished..

Group shot

Closeup of the skull so you can see his teeth and eye socket better, the chunk of Warpstone in his head was a Diablo inspiration.
Back
and a better look at his Doom Glaive.
I am going to curl his pointy finger and I will be cutting the spines on his back attaching some SM helmets and guard heads then reattaching the spines just to make him more 40k

Ok so I have no new pics of the Models to show today life's been pretty busy, I have begun work on the Dirigible which is based on the Glaive design carried by the Skaven Warlord so it will be a big flying Knife/Sword but alas I have run out of Casting material which I need to cast my Doomwheel parts so I can begin the work on the ship and the Doom Wheelie Kopta (the big one the smaller ones called the Rat).
Now I do need an opinion so please give me your ideas, Airship or Blimp so flying boat powered by warpstone propellers or blimp style big oval chunk of warpstone lifting the ship in the air I can't decide so please help out!
in other news RUN FOR YOUR LIVES SKAVEN ARE REAL!!!!!!
well not really it's a hairless bear.
Updates soon but please post you choice so I can make a move on the army also what is the next unit choices should I do:
1. Tank bustas (Globaiders)
2. Big Guns (Warpstone Cannons)
3. Warbuggies (Mini Doomwheels)
4. StormBoyz (shrugs I have now idea but my guess is a some kind of tunneling rat unit).
I was totally for the dirigible until you mentioned the airship idea, you would want to keep away from anything that resembles a dark eldar raider though...
..ok just to help I will put my vote in for the warpstone blimp!
I love the idea of something floating through the air that could potentially explode when shot and then rain down chunks of deadly warpstone
Oh and I would also like to see the Globadiers as Tankbustas are you going to arm a few with tankhammers, maybe a shaft with a head of warpstone that explodes on impact?

Ok one vote for the Blimp and yeah I'm thinking tank bustas or mini doomwheels myself and yes Tankhammers are a must as well as bomb strapped Rats for the squigs.
Oh, man what a choice, umm, think it's gonna be airship, but it's a close call and it'd probably be a different answer if I'd read this 10 minutes earlier
And is that real skaven on someone's yard wall eyeing up their dustbins?

Yes yes dustbins are a major component in Doomwheel construction and he wants one bad...
Looks like it's an Airship, I may still make both (2x battle-wagons couldn't hurt could it) but I need one now for the actual army list.
Ok so I've been Quiet well not really I've been posting but not my own stuff, needless to say I think it's time for an Update and this time I'm happy to show you the "secret" project I've been working on
Now before we begin I need to say it's early days for it still I've been toiling over it's construction but there is still much to do and a big thanks to the guys at the GW Perth store once again, it's due to their ability to sell me fantastic things that the Skaven in a Pirate hat will be the Limited edition Skaven Warlord model.
Anyway over to the Project which most have already guessed was the Airship.
if you haven't picked up on it yet that's a pack of Vick's throat drops and a box of Kleenex Tissues I have the Flu!!
It looks amazing! Though, because you used a lot of Ork parts (looks like Stompa and Truk parts from what I can tell) it gives it a very Orky look. Looks sorta detached from the floating fortress you made, not that same Skavy look; hell, it could just be me. I'm sure you'll fix that though, still amazing none the less, keep up the good work and I hope you get to feeling better soon!
Look fantastic Santo, I love the prow gun! and did I see a couple of bombs hanging on to the underside?
Have you got any spare chaos plates or glyphs left over from the bloodcrushers? It might help to tie the airship and the meganobs together if they share bits, that and any odd skaven warpstone censors if you have em, they have great trails of smoke behind them that would add the illusion of speed....not that I'm advocating buying the screaming bell kit!!!! those guys at your FLGS have probably made enough out of you at the moment
Of course you know you will have to do "counts as" warbuggies that look like mini sand skiffs from return of the jedi now right?
Awesome work Santobell..totally worth dragging yourself out of your sickbed for.

Shush you every-time you say something I end up doing it so no more from you! well not really you can speak... I had planned to scatter Warpstone here there and everywhere across the ship, the large hole in the side will have a visible Chunk of the stuff in it and I will have the vapor wafting out of all the gaps like steam coming out of vents only it's the holes in the ship and trailing off like they do with the screaming bell.
Basically it will be sailing through it's own Warpstone wake should be funky all that smoke and steam... Oh and out of the smoke stacks as well, my big guns will be similar to this basically a big chunk of Warpstone with some machinery around it like big censors.
and yes big bombs hanging off the side about 5 of them actually I have to add a ratty skull and crossbones to the front of it as well and some rigging and a Pirate flag.
Return of the Jedi skimmers hmmm I could make a big fat Skave and call him "Skavy the Runt" but alas no I will be using the Doom Wheelie Koptas instead

Death Gear wrote:I think it would be good if you had some warpstone coming out the jets
There will be Vapor Trails similar to the Screraming Bell once I'm done with it, I still have so much to do, gap filling casting Warpstone etc but in the end it will be unmistakeably Skave.
LeBaron wrote:It looks amazing! Though, because you used a lot of Ork parts (looks like Stompa and Truk parts from what I can tell) it gives it a very Orky look. With all the converts (minus the Mega Rat which I'm thinking about remaking to be more Orky) I'm trying to have an Ork element. I'm using the Ork list for the army and to make it more identifiable as that on the tabletop for my opponent I'm having these snapshots of Orkiness.
Blackhand made the Fortress Though I am still thinking about adding one to my list it's a brilliant idea and was originally going to be included in my list as well but the airship suits my Under Imperium much better.
As a breakdown of how I see the Skaven in a 40k Role: Skaven in Warhammer are represented as Clans, traditionally Clans over time evolve and in the Real World a lot of "Clans" become Corporations which if extrapolated over Millennium translate into Syndicates so the Skaven of the 41st Millennium are a mass of world-less black market companies with there finger in every pie on every world, basically buying a coke in the 41st millennium will fund their evil empire and it's illegal activities a space traveling Mob if you like. What fighting forces they do have are raiders and space pirates "obtaining" goods for redistribution throughout the stars.
So with this in mind I decided to go with a more quickly deployed look, small detachments of ships like this will Skitterleap from world to world stealing their way across it and then vanishing back to the "Under Imperium" their equipment and gear is scavenged/stolen/traded and reworked with Warpstone (the rocky leftovers of their long ago exterminatused home world) which makes them even harder to pick from the ruins they leave behind as any evidence left there, points to other races or dead ends.
They use misdirection, stealth and guile in all aspects of their life both in battle and in trade in most cases traders and thugs wont even know they are working for them, their only goal is to undermine everything the Imperium stands for.

Wow. Just wow. And you want me to make a blimp? This just seems sooooo much better. Definitely worth the wait - though do I see where some of the pieces have been clipped from the sprue? If so, I hope you clean them up! (I tend to clean up as I go - possibly one of the reasons my progress always seems so slow...) Looking forward to seeing this make it to completion!

Bossasaurus wrote:WOW! What does it count as exactly? A battlewagon?
Well originally before I Frankenstein-ed it, that was the idea but you could fit two or three battlewagons in it so I would have to say no probably a Stompa or a BW if my opponent agrees (it's not like it will be of any consequence to them only me).
Arakasi wrote:Wow. Just wow. And you want me to make a blimp? This just seems sooooo much better. Yeah I do a big clean up before I paint and I work out the final kinks for instance the strut that holds the hull together and is meant to have the stand attached. Can't take the weight of the damn thing so I will need to screw it in place.
We should organise I game or two for when you're here, we can see how the denizens of the "Under Imperium" the "Skave" fair against the might of the "Ar'deptuz Orkstartz" AKA "Da Dark Angelz"!
Tomorrow I will be flat out with work and same the following day what I will be trying to do is get the last of the Storm Vermin painted and make a start on the cleanup and the GS work for the Airship, if I'm really lucky I'll get time to GS the Skaven Warlord to captain the ship in his Pirate hat and then by the end of the week finish the Merc Unit off which now thanks to the Stompa box has a bunch of Grot revolutionaries to be made and GS'd up to join the ranks. This will bring the Unit to 28 Models I think which is just nice!
Buy the end of the week say Saturday I hope to have finished off the models that are all half done, then I can move onto the Tank Busta Squad which I'm looking forward to as I want to GS dynamite to Giant rats and make the Warpstone Hammers,
I'm also looking into the use of Grot weapons as a base for a Clanrat grade gun if it works out then the Mercs may be out of a job, even though they suit the Army fluff I would personally rather field an entire army of space rats.

Sorry about that again, posted the wrong damn thing. UGH!
So, your airship is lookin' amazing! Kinda makes me want to start working on something like that when I get the cash.
It's all good mate, everyone face palms now and then. Everyone should start a project like this or make something ridiculess, it annoying and painful and it takes time and hurts your brain but in the end all the pain is nothing compared to the achievement of actually pulling something like this Airship off honestly at the start of the build I was [pretty sure I had just blown my money on the stompa but now best bucks I've spent on the hobby in ages my "Trick" when making these things is to never go so far as to be unable to make/fix it back to the original kit until I'm sure it's going to work in this case it was about 40% through the build I went stuff it and hacked up all the body panels to make it happen.

Well, great minds think alike. I just can't see a Skaven captain dressed as anything but Captain Jack Sparrow. It would just add to the epic that is everything you do.
Given the awesomeness level of the stuff you've already done, I doubt you'll have any problems, but in case it helps, mention of the hat made me remember this: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/242410.page#747541, which has a nice tutorial on greenstuffing tricorn hats which I've wanted to try for a while but never found an excuse to do.

Tankhammer is Photoshoped lol I was originally going for a really long pole-arm style to it with a over heavy looking shard in the head but I think your right it would break under it's own weight
Still much to do though I did get the GS done on the Airship so paint tonight hopefully!

I feel the paint has gone a long way to do just that but I really feel that once it's done and dusted the crew will be the big standout I'm going to get a screaming bell and some cannon crews to really flesh it out.

Update (Completely unrelated crazy project)
I have begun making the master mini's for my Demiurg project to see how they work, basically the plan is to make one body a few heads and arms and cast them all to make the army.
Anyhoo
Not the best photo's sorry I'm still waiting on my camera cable form Olympus
so far he is made out of an ork a terminator a SM tech priest and a BA honor guard backpack the gs work at the moment is mainly to hold him together not to look pretty once it sets I will bulk his chest out a bit and add some details then do his granite arm out of GS.
BLACKHAND wrote:Yes, yes and YES! Love the armour, great look with the plates on the thigh, the whole body has the perfect, squat bodybuilder look.
Need a closer and clearer look at the head but it seems to be on the right track.
What are you thinking of for the arms?
From the Concept pics I have managed to drag up the Demiurg are made of or turn into with age some kind of rocky/crystalline substance. A lot of the images show one exposed arm made from this and one good arm or weapon arm so I'll keep in line with these images mostly there is also a few pics of something called a surcombed which appears to be a Demiurg who is made completely from stone and is much larger than the normal soldier.
From what I can tell the Demiurg are rare even in their own armies and use a lot of drones/robots even their ships are crewed by automatons so the army would be made from
HQ - Demiurg
Elite - Demiurg/Surcombed/big bot
Troops - Bots
Fast attack - More bots/Transports
Heavy Support - Demiurg/BIG Tanks
As for the head it's rough, my first attempt to make a head that small, though I'm learning to work with such thin/small stands of GS I think I'll run with it for now I'm confident that the helmet will be fairly easy for me after attempting this head but I may in the near future (once I get a magnifying glass and some finer tools) redo it but for now I should be able to make a reasonable cast of this one to get me through.
In fact here is test shot with a wash on it so you can see better how bad it is
LeBaron wrote:What parts make up your squat? I need one for my CSM army and I was going to take the lazy way out and just convert a Dwarf.
Ork Nob Boots (till knee)
Plastic Terminator Waist
Plastic Terminator Add-on Armor Panels
Blank SM chest
Honor Guard Jump Pack (Rear Only)
Custom Head made mostly from GS and a SM Head as the base.
He stands on a Terminator Base and although short he stands a similar height to an Imperial Guard (about shoulder height).
Not a Model Update but... I did finish the Airships paintwork and began painting the rest of the hired guns unit as well as the final 5 Storm-vermin and now sadly I have run out of devlin mud chaos black white primer black primer narloc green and vermin brown so works on hold until I can get to a local shop who sells paint.
in the mean time I've been working on the codex (the rewrite of the Ork list to sound Skavey) and here is the cover
By the way, there's something bugging me but I never asked : what's behind the twisting of the name into "The Skave"? Is there a link with pirates, or anything?
I'd find a way to copyright all of this ASAP. GW is behind on making codex for the rest of us and, as we all know, they aren't above "borrowing" from peoples work...
I love your cover. Are you going to do a full codex as a PDF?
Because that would be awesome. Although I suppose it might get you in trouble with GW's legal people since you're basically redoing allt he points costs and abilities from the Ork 'dex but with better (read: more skaveny) names.
Yggdrasil wrote:Did you draw this by yourself?

No I didn't draw the originals it's made up of 11 images found on the net layered in photoshop and effects added so my big thanks go to the original people whoever they are where ever they are and to google for the nifty image search feature.
GW started the Name changing! elves became Eldar, Orcs became Orks the Empire became the Imperium of Man etc. so the Skaven evolved into the Skave and as a double effect it's a reflection of the Necromundian gang and a Pirate influence which ties it all together nicely I thought

Where as the Demiurg (Space Dwarf) are a Space faring race of Rock men who are not part of the Imperium and are allied seemingly close to the Tau (the Demiurg sold the Tau the Ion technology that they use for their weapons and Vehicles).
CodGod wrote:I love your cover. Are you going to do a full codex as a PDF?
Because that would be awesome. Although I suppose it might get you in trouble with GW's legal people since you're basically redoing allt he points costs and abilities from the Ork 'dex but with better (read: more skaveny) names.
Yes I will PDF the Codex once done though I don't know how good it will be as I am the Typo king it will be a three fold book consisting of the Skave rules for friendly games, Conversion ideas/methods and a comparison chart for playing GW games.
LeBaron wrote:I'd find a way to copyright all of this ASAP. GW is behind on making codex for the rest of us and, as we all know, they aren't above "borrowing" from peoples work...
To be honest if they did take anything I've come up with and release it I'd be one part annoyed (pissed off and angry) and the other part dancing a jig knowing that the Skaven would actually finally end up in 40K
They may ste- I mean "borrow" your codex but that doesn't mean we'd see anything come out of it. I've got a stack of rules without models and old codexs from 2nd Ed that still need updates.
Haven't check this for ages....its awesome well done!
Just for my 2pennies...you wouldn't stand a chance copyrighting any of this (besides you wouldn't need to as its already in a public place...Dakka dakka)....you could with some of the models...and perhaps if you did 'Space Rats of the Future' game system but anyway...
There is always no harm in sending stuff of to GW if you do do a codex.

No I didn't draw the originals it's made up of 11 images found on the net layered in photoshop and effects added so my big thanks go to the original people whoever they are where ever they are and to google for the nifty image search feature.
Still, congratulations, for it looks really good!

Seemed like a good idea at the time... Basically the idea stems from the piratical nature of the Skave in 40k, the armed forces of the Skave syndicates are two fold on one hand you have space pirats and black market traders and on the other hand you have corporat specialists. This army focuses on the former plus the Term Skavey feels like a Pirate term (kinda like Scurvy) and all flowed on from the design of the Airship and it's captain which has become the center point of the army though in the codex I am building the Corporat guys will also make an appearance.
Sings* It's fun to charter and accountant and sail across the wide accountancy!
Ah Monty Python where would the world be without you?
I have a question for you all, on the tank busters I'm making I will be adding some skavey bomb squad type armor to them now I want to enclose their heads and for the eye sockets the Skaven models use two styles a siv looking type and an enclosed gem look what would be more hmm 40k in appearance?
Perhaps they could have had them surgically attached?
Btw...have you checked out....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Herbert
He wrote a comic series about futuristic rat men apocalypse...and he also did a load of work for GW! I think he wanted skaven 40k secretly.
I just want to say this now: if you do a Skave Daemon it should have 12 teats, be female, and have a portable milker on each one to feed its children warpmilk. I'm just putting that out there Ron Burgundy style.

Lens style/gem
bug style
often this last one is a round dome over the eye

Oh, piRATes, check again... And Scurvy as welll (though you just had me learn that word, I guess it's quite unusual to know this as a non-native English lol - at least I never learned it during my English courses )...
So that leads me to another half-question / half-statement / half-enlightenment (who said I skipped the maths courses?!? ) : Skave is pronounced as if written Skaveeeee ? / . / ! (question / statement / enlightenment marks, respectively)
That sure sounds better than what I had imagined at first (pity me, I told you...).
As for the Bomb squad, I prefer the bug style ones, maybe less futuristic, but more related to their dangerous job : the objective is to prevent all sorts of shards from blinding them, I guess...
Good looking Captain, I need to get my hand on this model...

Skave is pronounced as if written Skay'vee so yes in the way you were thinking like scurvy to make the mind think pirate. though you could just call them Skave (pronouced like raise or rave) effectivly Skaven without the "n" but my mind had it as Skaveee yes. wow I ramble sometimes.

If casting I think the gem version will cast more consistently....
And Manaknok...Manaknok, manaknok, manaknok when will you give up on seeing giant rats with fluid milking devices attached to them?
I'll probably just GS them as there will only be 3 to 5 heads needed but I'll see how they turn out.

Cheers matey, I have recently added more to the ship, large brass pipes along the hull which has really finished the feel once it's all painted up hopefully this weekend I'll get some shots up. Oh and welcome aboard ARRR!
manoknok wrote:I think the bugs eye one is better. If you could fill the four little holes on each socket with a warp stone type gem that would be awesome.
yeah I'm tending towards the bug eye thing as well not sure about the stone though there might not be enough room for it but I'll see the basic idea is to give them some kind of padding/protection for the models with the hammers so high collars and enclosed armor my only issue is I'm running low on GS and I'm torn between making the armor for one or two and then pausing until I get more or leaving it for now make my legion of the damned commander and do the armor on the tank busters next week.
LeBaron wrote:Your captain looks great! Can't wait to see the rest of the crew come together.
I have them all in one place on a small shelf at the moment and it looks good, and finally I got to a shop who had my washes in stock so I got the last 5 Storm-vermin painted no pics yet I'm waiting on a special sand to arrive from up north in Broome
there is a red clay like sand called Pindan and it's unique in colour like a redy orange anyway what I will do is a green base then flock it with this clay sand leaving gaps between sections I'll then re wash the whole thing and add shading to the exposed green areas to make it look like it's glowing if it work they look like the ground is cracking under foot and warp stone glow is coming up from the cracks and gaps.
It's been a long time coming but finally the tank busta unit is built, the army faces it's first battle this weekend and so I'm in a frantic rush to get it table ready, I will have these guys painted shortly then I can begin basing the army ready for the game.
Sadly the Commando's will not be ready nor will the Doom Wheelie Kopta well maybe but most likely not.
And so without further delay:
The grabber counts as a Power Klaw, I still need to clean them up a bit and fill some gaps before painting but please C&C.
The head on the Grabber-wielder is great, which set does it come from?!? Looks like a small-scale Verminlord, which can only be good for a squad leader!
On the penultimate pic (the one before the last), I think the Rokkit launcher looks a bit weird & out of place, but it may only be the angle or pose, because the same build on 2nd pic looks good!
I also like the one with a Plague Priest head, he's scary!!!
Last (minor) criticism : a lot of pieces are still mould-lines-heavy, they could get some more trimming...
Still, that's some very good work!! Between yours & BH's 40k Skaven projects, I feel much temptated by building one of mine, but have no time for that! Great inspiration though!

The grabber is from the Rat Ogre box and yeah I have a lot of cleaning up to do with the models I tend to work backwards I get it fitted together and then I go back and clean up the parts
Beyond that whats left for the Skave I hear you say well I don't and your probably not but I'm going to tell you anyway!
Unit Name | Work to be Done
Commandos (eshins) | Scratch Built Bodies, still in planing
Warbuggie (Doom Wheelie Kopta MkII) | Buy Doom Wheel and Build Kopta Desgin Completed
Big Guns (Jezails) | Build the Jezail gun from copper piping and brass tubes
Units I'm considerng making. changing
Skitter leapers
Stormboyz based unit that teleport across the battlefield in a Warp fueled frenzy
Storm Vermin
Considering redoing these guys as Mega Nobz and scratch building the armored bodies so that they are large scale like the normal Mega armor Nobs.
Grots (Clan Rats)
Hell take a vote let me know what addition to the army you think would be best or suggest what you feel would be a better choice.

Actually I was asking about the bone head, not the grabber!!
As for the BIG Guns, wouldn't Warpcannons be more appropriate? Or do you plan on making some ZZap Guns?
Plus I'd rather see the Grots as being Skave slaves, it'd fit their stats + Herder leader better IMHO!
Yggdrasil wrote:As for the BIG Guns, wouldn't Warpcannons be more appropriate? Or do you plan on making some ZZap Guns?

Technology makes things smaller, the Warpcannons are powerful in WHFB but when viewed in a 40k light they are like lascannons that break, the intention is to not directly port WHFB to 40k and so the Jezzails become the cannon and the warpcannons are out all together, the conversion idea is to have a small Skave holding a truly massive weapon like a rifle have the barrel resting on the back of a second crew member with a third checking settings on the side fo the gun sort of like and over sized OOP Jezzail modelSo ina sense I'm combining the too to make something new but since it's held and fired the Jezzail makes a closer comparison ot what the model will look like.
I went down that road at first as well with the slaves but I decided to 40k it some more and went for Mercs instead who's stat line suits the Ork Boyz better however I think in the end once time is not the issue I will change it over to a Rat based unit as well.

I don't think your in any danger of that mate, I'm pretty sure I won't get everything painted in time or based but it will be a good show either way.
That said I'll likely lose the matches anyway seeing as I've only played two games (in the last 18 months) and both were tests of the LoTD rules not real to win matches.
We may even have to proxy some terrain though I'm working on that!
Thank you so much!!! In addition to my 40k skaven I've been toying around with a counts-as ork army and I couldn't figure out for the life of mt how to make a power claw!!
Mind if I borrow your tank buster power claw idea?

Go nuts, my first claw on the SV is the barrel feed off an Ork slugga with an actual power claws, claws attached and the second made more sense to be the big clawed grabber.
Anyone is welcome to anything I put up in here or any other post I don't mind one bit... well unless your GW and you want my ideas for an actual Skave force then you can get out your cheque book and pay me.. pay me BIG!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Demiurg Mercenary with Paint
A little dark on the pics but still he looks nifty enough, and in keeping with the GW fluff (takes a bit to find but it's out there) he's made of a rocky crystalline stone and is on his way to becoming a "Succumbed"
which from what I gather is what happens when the Demiurg digress to a rock-like state and become barbaric which is something they really try to avoid.
No new pics as of yet but I have been working on them, I'm nearly finished painting the Merc's Unit and will attempt to paint the Globeaiders tomorrow if I get time.
The big game is on Saturday at 9am the Skave get their first taste of blood Vs the devious Ork clan Da Dark Angelz.
There will be a series of two games; the first is a pursuit where the Skave are fleeing from a recent looting of an Ork weapons cache, with the Orks hot on my tails (literally)!
The second will depend on the out come of the first either, a scattered Skave force after the destruction of their Airship or a Consolidated Force ready and waiting the approaching Ork horde!
I will upload pics of this event after we conclude the matches and shortly after I will post a Battle Report for those who are interested.
So, I've been scrounging around for rumors of what exactly is going to be released for Skaven in January, but I haven't been able to find anything... have you heard any word?
I don't want to start making something and then find out they're about to release something that I could have used as a better base model...
And because I'm sure Blackhand will be around here somewhere too... have you (BH) heard anything either?
I believe it's new gutter runner/ Eshin Plastics and I heard a rumor of a new V-lord model.
Well toady was the day the Infamous Skave squared off against the forces of Da Dark Angelz and came out on top..... barely!
I'll post pics and a quick report later today.
In a Nutshell:
Two matches were played. One a chase, the Skave feeling after looting an Ork settlement for trade-able salvage and the other a scramble for that salvage after the loss of the Airship during the failed getaway.
I uploaded the images to my gallery and yes I'll be doing a BR just not done one before so know idea how good/bad it will be, either way hopefully today!
It was a fun day, great day. We had a lot of laughs and the games flew by with total carnage on all sides. I won the final game but really on a moral victory as my points for the game were up on Da Dark Angelz but that's what fun games are about putting what you have on the board and enjoying the mayhem that follows I will be looking forward to the rematch in 18 months time which should give me ample opportunity to complete these guys.
Skave update - "Runners" (Ork Boyz/Clan Rats)
I have organised a box of the Clan rat variety to head my way which will be eagerly converted into my Runners units, this will be the largest unit available to the Rats and will count as Ork Boyz with Shootas the models themselves will be armed with Dueling Pistols, this unit should begin production with hopeful speed next week pics will follow shortly after as will the shots of the painted Tankbustaz
I thought you were just compensating for using fluffy units like Tankbustas and Flashgitz Da Dark Angelz are always up for a challenge anyway!
You wouldn't think variable AP weaponry would annoy Orks - but my Deffkoptas beg to differ! That and I couldn't put a wound on them (not that I had the opportunity to try hard...)
Anyway - as said many a time before - great day! I was surprised at how many great photos we had between us too - hopefully makes the report more atmospheric than confusing...
@ Arakasi... I'm always compensating for something in game and it's usually my lack of tactical anything!
Saturday is the Big box comp the airship is under modification to enter (touch ups mainly) and I hope to continue my Skavey madness shortly after
(mainly as I'm getting new models and GS etc while I'm there).
My dual pistol wielding clanrats are out and being replaced by a slung "Warp Shot Rifle" the idea (well in my head anyway)
is a two stage weapon a small burst of warp fire is injected into the firing chamber of a rifle which contains the standard warp shard ammo the two combine and violently launch out the end.
The final result is rifle style gun which is more powerful than a lasgun, shooter than a flamer but lacking the strength and area effect which = a shooter/bolter.
So physically the model will hold it two handed but side slung and it will have a warpfire gas-tank on the rats back with feed lines down to the firing chamber it should look Skavey enough, sort of like an evolved warpfire thrower kinda thing.
With the release of the new Skaven models this month I will be continuing to add to this army, the new ikit claw will be incorporated and the new warp cannon will allow me to both finish the Airship and give me the heads I need to finish off my tank hunters properly the clan rats are on hold until I can try the gun on both the new models and the gutter runners models (more poses etc on the runners).
Either way it will be an interesting couple of months as I hack n slash the new comers and assimilate them into the Skave
I also have a plan to make two more airships, only smaller battle wagon sized to be used as said Battle wagon and truks the idea is a ramshackle hull (held together by wood and pipes, cloth and bolts) with large warpstone chunks mounted like VTOL engines around the hull.
I hope to have the army fleshed out to 2000 points by the middle of Feb if all goes well.
Ok first update in a while for these guys sorry about that anyone who's tuning in!
I have mainly been working on my other Project the Legion of the Damned however I managed to pull myself away long enough to get my greedy little (not so) hands on the new skaven warp cannon well two actually and the results was part heaven for my airship design the final bits I needed to fill in the holes and a fix a few things I hated about it.
Now it's not done I have assembly and painting still to do and I snapped my last 1mm drill bit so that's going to be fun :(.
So here we go the start of the interior engineering section. (visible through the missing bulkheads on the side).
Isn't he a nice little worker bee erm rat!
the support beams from the cannon have been trimmed ot fit the insides of the airship which will give it a greater structure all over and allow me to hang lots of gears and turning bits etc
Here is the new Prow Gun/Deck gun and the warp censor
Crew! she's got crew I tells ya!
I fixed the side that was waaaay to high and left the ship lop sided
The engine ports finally get caps
Other changes are the pow itself no longer has the ork giant stompa skull on it and is a much more Skaven style incorporating wood and cogs etc.
and I have added an LED system to it to allow some lighting while on display.
I also have an Ikit claw who with enough hmm persuasion should make a nice mega nob or boss maybe I'll get a bunch and make a mega squad out of them or use them as stormvermin and make my current stormvermin clan rats bah who knows I'm sure the council of 13 will tell me what they want me to do when the time comes!
Oh and I have begun acquiring parts to start making small airship for use as trukks
P.S. yes I need to re attach the wings to the airship.
Freaking awesome. Its so successful because you've managed to take away all of the other styles, make it pure skaven but you also seamlessly blended futuristic tech in as well.
BLACKHAND wrote:Stunning work brother, that gun is just gonna rock once its painted ( not that it doesn't rock now!)
I especially like how much it's look has shifted from orkyness to a more Skaveny style, Can't wait to see the smaller airships!
Smaller ships will have to wait I broke my last 1mm drill bit but I did get a gift form my wife a lovely box of clan rats, so they get some love soon enough ... shame the rats are almost one piece molds it's going to be tricky my original idea is out the door basically so the new plan is megaman/ikitclaw style arm guns to count as shooters instead.

No no it is not but it's not a friend to any stompa so a flying one just make it more interesting, the ship is definitely a long fangs wet dream.

Actually I forgot to write one or take shots of it but I'll explain the maddness.
Step 1. When designing how to do the interior I chose to use the wooden struts off the warp cannon as a way of strengthening the ships hull the shape of each triangle was shaved to fit the hulls interior (I had to do this as my original stand was way to flimsy and the ship had no real internal structure to mount anything to, it would simple collapse under it own weight).
Step 2. Was securing these beams in place one just inside the opening in the side and the other deeper at the heaviest point of the ship (which is just under the smoke stacks).
Step 3. Involved drilling through the hull and into the beam, then inserting a long (about 4 inch brass rod into the hole leaving about half an inch exposed.
Step 4. Using a cast of the Valkyries mounting socket (more as a guide) I made four holes and again attached the socket to the ship with rods for strength.
Step 5. Taking a standard large vehicle flying base I cut the end on an angle roughly 30 degrees and inserted a brass rod into the top rear of the stand and drilled a hole in the front to match up with our exposed rod on the airship.
Step 6. line up the rods and holes and slide together.
Step 7. was to do a similar process to the base of the stand and attach it to the wooden base.
I will take some photo's of it apart so you can see the result but the key was to line up my bulkheads/beams with the flying bases stand so that the weight of the ship was carried in a vertical manner saving any breakage (which is what happened to it while on display).
Arakasi wrote:You should see it in person
Hey matey, I think I was more blown away by your trukks and boyz conversions than my airship, actually it was the large amounts of detail you put into your builds that prompted me to do the interior of the airship the way I have as opposed to the way it was before. oh and I'm still waiting for that rematch hurry up and move here dammit!

Go for it anyone and everyone is welcome to build a ship like this, the scary thing is after I do this I'm going to attempt a scratch built thunderhawk (for my Legion of the Damned)and then I'll be making an even bigger airship to use as terrain (I'm cleaning up an area of space to have a permanent gaming table setup at home).
The Good Green wrote:That is a killer airship! So awesome and full of inspiration. I think you may have just convinced me to pick up a Stompa box. You bastard!
Great work.
Everyone should have one of these :p
No new updates as yet today but here is the list I need to finish it.
1.Attach airfoils and wings
2.Make the base pretty
3. paint base
4.final paint of ship patching rough work and fill unwanted holes (there is a lot of wanted ones too)
5.green-stuffing more warp flame and smoke billowing out of wanted holes and pipes etc.
6.add an anchor
7. final paint and washing before sealing with a matt finish.
Oh and if I get time make a little plaque for the base to say what it is.
I will take some photo's of it apart so you can see the result but the key was to line up my bulkheads/beams with the flying bases stand so that the weight of the ship was carried in a vertical manner saving any breakage (which is what happened to it while on display).
thanks for that description...brass rod...
well did you ever measure your model asto how heavy it is?

would be nice and a revelation for me^^

The whole thing is 15 inches long in total and weight about a kilo 920grams give or take.
As far as measuring before building I did not do this, not on this project I wanted it to be as improvised as possible.

Cheers matey, I hope you enjoy the thread, come for the ship but stay for the rats so to speak.
Ok Dakka ate my post so I'll add these updates and hope the missing post appears if not I will reply to everyone tonight (trying to avoid a double post).
Mini Update - Trukk/war-buggy prototype
I have been messing with two designs for my trukks for the army one is a flying boat liek the larger airship only wee tiny in comparison, the other is a land based trukk using parts form the ork battlewagon and the Doom Wheel.
Like my Doomwheelie kopta, the tunnel rat and the smaller Ratt kopta this is an experimental build and may or may not end up in the army and uses many parts you will have seen before on some of my other builds (the idea is the one that works will get new kits purchased to build them).
So here goes. it's made in two parts the idea is I can have the front only if I need a war-buggy or both together if I need a trukk transport.
effectively it's a buggy with a trailer.
Front half (guns not fixed it;s for demo only and will be replaced with a flamer based weapon)
I am most likely to late to say this [pesky dog tried to eat the wires and got a nasty shock] but if its a skaven/skave airship wouldent the balloon be some sort of huge gas filled floating hellpit abomination?
I just came across this thread and wanted to lend some praise!
A friend of mine and I have discussed how awesome it would be for GW to create a space rat army. I can't wait to see the finished army.
Liking the war buggy/truck, I still think a swarm of doomwheel copters supporting the airship will look cool but I do like the buggy.
Grotsrus has a point though, a gas filled balloon with abomination arms and legs sticking out randomly would be sweet especially if painted as stretched skin with patches of fur and veins all over, creeepy look to it and would be a great vehicle for a plague priest type unit and a s a contrast to your more tech-looking airship
I like this doom wheel contraption. Really makes me think of that Russian tank designed before WWI which had 2 huge (about 8 meters, iirc) bicycle wheels on the front. It was huge, unwieldy, and got stuck in the mud for the entirety of the war, but I think that Skave tek could easily undermine some mud. Do it, or something like what you've got looking
Viktor von Domm wrote:well compared to my airship this is well over on ht e light side then, the least my airship is is a light weight^^...thanks for the data!
vik
I want to make a bigger one for terrain but we will see, yeah my biggest issue is it's weight I used so much brass building a frame to attach eveyrhtign ti and to run it's lengths that for a model it's fairly heavy.
Mukkin'About wrote:That looks super cool!
Aren't you concerned that it looks too... orCy?
Fabulous conversion anyways
I am deliberately keeping an Ork look to the army so that from an opponents view point it's easier to picture what is used as what, the problem with the airship is it's so damn big and there is nothing in the whfb range for the skaven on that scale so parts are a premium which has left it a bit more Orky than I would have liked.
Yggdrasil wrote:Awesome work as usual, Santo...
I can't imagine the work needed to reach such an epic airship...
It took a lot of planning and messing about with Hi-Res images of the parts in photoshop to see what could fit and where, which all went right out the door the moment I had it in my hands haha.
Vitruvian XVII wrote:Awesome! Really has buckets of character. My vote is for this over the flying things, this way the airship will be totally unique.
Keep up the great work!
Cheers matey thanks for the compliment!
grotsrus wrote:I am most likely to late to say this [pesky dog tried to eat the wires and got a nasty shock] but if its a skaven/skave airship wouldent the balloon be some sort of huge gas filled floating hellpit abomination?
Yes I did think of this and in Warhammer yep I dare say it would but in a 40k setting such a thing would be counter productive and too easy a target it would be a situation of 13 armor all round except on the balloon which only has 4.

Yes yes it's been demand of me in about 50 PM's I will bring the Doomwheelie Koptas back I just need to get the parts which I'll probably do this Saturday (along with the plastic card for my Legion of the Damned Thunderhawk) :p

I think we've been goggling the same things that's where I got the idea from
On completely unrelated news I got my hands of a Storm-Raven model while at a local outlet (not to keep but to mess about with) and I tell you it's awful, but what excellent parts. Sadly it's tiny I mean Rhino small but with wings which is a real shame.

It looks from other comparison shots that its on the small side but I figure kitbashing it together a valk would be sweet IMHO
Valks are such a good kit it's sad to see the likes of the raven make it to production, that said I can see where the design comes from but in comparison to many kitbashes and home builds it's a pretty bad design.
Kinda reminds me of a Squig with wings.
Anyhow Minor update - more paint!
I started to work on the ships details a bit more, first off was the cannon... oh and I made a nifty little anchor you can see it hanging down in the pick.
Minor update - Airship competed well sorta,kinda....enough!
The air ship is based and finally pretty much done only a few small touch ups to do now so I thought I'd share some pics with you all of that last few changes to the ship give you a size comparison as well before I put my ratty brain to work on clan rats and how to convince the wife that three Doom-wheels and a box of plague monks is a family necessity and should come out of the food budget!
First up is the new nose.
Then I detailed the engines.
Finished the warp detail on the gun.
And posed it for the camera (from left to right - Mantis Sgt for Git, Skaven Warlord & home grown Vermin Lord... oh and the thing in the back is an airship :p ).
If anyone is wondering what the swirly lump is on the base under the ground flock, that's blutac I will peel it up leaving a nice empty spot to paint in some warp fire detail and add rocks.
I just read this whole forum and it is just SUPER!!! I love the Airship and the little rat shoveling warp stones in to the warp drive!!, it has Star Trek bloopers written all over it. Keep up the great work!!
I know I said it before, but I really do like the airship design. I did manage to bust apart one of my stompas and make one myself. It isn't painted yet, but it will be. You have been a great source of inspiration.
Vitruvian XVII wrote:Very interesting! Lovely colours, if youre up to it some osl would be sweet!!
Mind sharing the colours used?
Thanks.
Colours are
Narloc Green
Sunburst Yellow
Skull White
It's on a black base coat
Start with straight narloc
then a 50/50 mix of narloc and yellow
keep adding yellow and repeating working from the edges into the center of the pools/stone edges
After about the 5th layer I then add 50% white to the last green yellow mix and repeat the steps with the mix and white
Finally I top it off with a thrakka green wash.

I want to do another big one but I don't think with all my current projects I'll get to for a while, lets see theres
The Skave
The Legion of The Damned
Space Sharks (badab wars)
Nids (revamp)
and a bunch of comissions which is something I never expected I'd be doing but it's fun though time consuming.
I do really need to finish the skave though I will be getting some new cannon fodder next week and will hopfully have some updates after that.
It's the same story with my Legion I have done some work but just haven't really got enough to show yet and ontop of that my computer died
I just got it replaced today.
neil101 wrote:Airship is great i like the way you painted the warpstone effect
I tried a few options before settling on this scheme it's more complicated and takesa bit of time per model buuut the end ressult is much better.
Update - Def Dread Complete
He's finally done, painted and based.
I'm sorry for the Orangy nature fo the shot new camera and it seems to adjust colouring on the shots it takes to try and make the colours bump out more I'm trying to find the switch it off button as we type.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and this weekend the Skave Airship and select other Mini's will be on Display at the Perth GW store in West Oz! actually from my understanding they'll be there for a couple of weeks.
He came into his own once the Ork weapons were removed and the Skaven stuff was attached then the spiffy Warpstone effect I'm going with and a nice deep red wash 65% red was and 35% devlin mud (might have been 70 30... ish) to deep his shadows and colour range and a few retouches.
The idea is to get the army table ready so basic plain painting then once it is I'll be working back into heach unit to enhance the look and up the anti on the pallete etc.

More we get behind Skaven 40k conversions the closer we get to grabbing the attention (short that it may be) of GW and ending up with real 40K Skaven, for my part, I'm talking to one of the editors of White Dwarf Oz who is interested in doing a spread on the army once it's all finished. (the airship grabbed his attention at the local store).
On top of that my local store gets introuble with it customers when I take the ratties away to paint or work on them it's pretty funny the airship and the dread are still doing the tour of the local GW's at the moment soon to be joined by the vermin lord and the tank busters speeking of which I'll have some nice pics of the tank busters up here on daka really soon I'm just adding the finishing touches to them.
Update - general info
The Clanrats - are in the works but I am waiting on some casting supplies to arrive so I can make enough guns to fit them all out (20 so far) to put them in perspective I'm using plague monks for the base so hood and raggy robes low tech these guys don't live well in the Syndicate they are petty criminals thrown into the conflict with the promise of keeping what they kill.
Mega Armor Nobs - Again Casting supplies are holding me up here but mostly the plan is done and the test model is good I will be casting up the components and assembling the unit shortly.
Truks - Sleds as I'm calling them are small Airships a wood frame with crude chisel nosed ends dragging chunks of warpstone behind them for propulsion. The concepts are done the plasticard has been aquired all I need is another 2 warp cannon boxes.
Battle wagon - Screaming Bell, A big shout out to Blackhand for this one, it will be a floating ruin like the ones we talked about both early in this and on his Skaven thread. originally I had chosen to make the airship instead but I feel the need to have some iconic Skaven device within the army something awe inspiring yet equally spine chilling. I also needed a bulk transport so my options wer giant bloated rat queen (I know someone in this forum who would get excited over that idea) or or a rat infected effigy of the bizzare nature of skaven technology sprouting steam engines tesla coils and piping giant glowing chunks of warpy goodness riddled with rats then astride this hulk of malice and evil sits the Chiming Bell of skavey doom sounding the end of everything for the opposing force!
Ok I got away form myself there basically it came to giant rat thing eww and yuk or evil flying castle aaaaah run for your lives and ther later is the effect I wanted plus it then fits into the rest of the forces by flying.
anyhoo nuff outa me see you guys soon with actual pics etc and some real updates!
I'm planing on picking up the screaming bell this weekend if money allows if not next fortnight (payday)
the idea I have is more a pinicle than a ruin a slender tall Warpstone chunk with the ruin emerging form the top a bit like if you took an iceberg and lifted it into the air the tip (which is all we could see above the water) is only a small part fo the whole thing.
So the ruin is on the tip of this thing and the earth and warpstone make up the largest part, then I was thinking about having burrow holes through the stone for access points and smaller floating chunks of stone chained to the main body floating around which is where I would place what counts as guns.
With the bell itself replacing the large cannon on the Battle Wagon.
The real trick for me is to get some clear acrylic tubing that has a low melt temp so I can use them to attach all the floating bits "invisibly" to the main body.
For me this is an amazing challenge build I get to work with raw mats and build 90% of it from scratch while still tryign to make it feel both Skave and a little bit Ork at the same time... But this unit will for the most aprt really demostrate how I see the Skaven in the 41st Mill and how they fit in (if I was to not base them on another army's list and make a Skave from scratch army) so I'm fairly amped about it.
My only other issue is balancing the two builds Skave and Legion so one gets attentiona nd the other gets the bench never for good just a pause really but the Skave really have my imagination at the moment so I'm pretty excited about such unique a build and the support I get form the Forum and form my local stores as well.
He came into his own once the Ork weapons were removed and the Skaven stuff was attached then the spiffy Warpstone effect I'm going with and a nice deep red wash 65% red was and 35% devlin mud (might have been 70 30... ish) to deep his shadows and colour range and a few retouches.

just a caution ... careful these guys are addictive!
only a couple more guys before I take some more shots to show you all progress, casting mats wont get here till next week now so it's slow going.
I have a gazillion things I want to do with them but I need to settle downa nd make a few choices moving forward with the amry and then focus myself in that direction!
(other wise I will be building little odds and ends for them until forever).
To that end I would like to ask the question.
What units should I focus on?
I'm looking at;
Stormboyz
Truks
Mega Nobz
Units I will be attemping or have started are;
Battle wagon
Boyz
Though these last guys are all in limbo until I get my casting gear everythign is waiting on it ~sigh~
BLACKHAND wrote:Having read Papskittels page and reading your ideas for the stormboys I kinda want to see where you take them , so they have my vote
First up a question what should I call them
Phase Vermin
Shadow Vermin
Warp Rats/Vermin
Secondly here is my concept model as you can see they are more fluid than before and have a lot more motion than the early attempts.
Still more GS to do the shadow will eventually drape away from his face and off his weapon as well as if he is exploding form a liquid shadow on the ground
Oh and since the photo's I've added his tail and some more detail including a censor just to add more dimension to him.
Very nice GS work - looking forward to where this goes - I guess I have to pick Stormboyz then (though I have a personal interest in Trukks and currently, Meganobz...)
...awesome. I like how it appears to be erupting from the Warp.
Go with the name Shadow Vermin.
Cheers matey, the bases inspiration was an old warhammer model form the epic scale game (forgotten it's name) but it was a high elf mage thing ona wave.

Great work!
That Movie scared the BeGeezuz out of me when I was a kid I tried a few other styles with them but this part rat part warp look seemed to suit what my mind was thinking the best.
I am doing slightly different looks for each mini while keeping it the same ideal overall mainly increasing and de-creasing the violence of the warp around them to show visious eruption or subtle
breaching. This first guys a mix it's violent around his body but calm and fluid closer to the base like he rose up slowly then agressively striked.
Arakasi wrote:Very nice GS work - looking forward to where this goes - I guess I have to pick Stormboyz then (though I have a personal interest in Trukks and currently, Meganobz...)
The trukk will come anyway next week is pay week which means screaming bell which has all the parts I need for both the battle wagon and a single trukk.
Update - Nearly finished Shadow Vermin No:2
From above (sorry no pic of it yet) it's a turbulant spiraling warp portal.
Yeah they are not the most traditional assault troops but I really want to break the mold with a few select units these being one of them.
The Battlewagon will be another you wont recognise it.
Every army (nearly) sports some kind of jump troop just seemed right for the Skave to do the exact opposite, These guys are part of my Eshin Syndicate, as a highlight here is the breadown.
The Moulder Organization: Def Dreads - Cricetomys Cyborg (named after the largest rat in the world)
Killer Kans - Rat Orgyn Hybrids
Grots - Giant Rats
The Rictus authority (make up about 70% of the Skave race): Boyz - Cut throats
Ard Boyz - Storm Vermin
Mega Nobz - Council Guard
Warboss - Warlords
The Skyre: All Vehicles
MekBoyz - Enginseers
Mad Doks - Physicians
Tankbustas - Associates (as in if you have trouble repaying your loan my associates here will come pay you a visit).
FlashGitz - Tithe Collectors
Looters - Repomen
Green Concept of the Mega Nob, still no idea if I'll make a unit of these he can be dissasembled into body back arms and head for casting but hmm not sure.
C n C welcome.
Also 4 out of 5 Shadow Vermin are done and I will start on the Nob soon, still no casting supplies Aust Post lost it so I wait... more... I'm goping to post some weapon options
for the Clan rats soon and you guys can tell me which one I should use then I'm really going to put my GS skills to the test as I have to sculpt the resting hand on the barrel.

The gs work is really great though!!
No No I compeltely agree thats why I may not go ahead with this comcept though I am open to new avenues for the mega armored rats if anyone
has suggestions?
I'm tyring to figure out what to change but it's not coming to me at the moment.
It would be nice to see a pic alongside others for sizing - he looks a bit big and/or the head is too small.
Minus size issues - he looks more 'eavy armourish than mega-armour. I'd be inclined to take a normal size Stormvermin and build him into a mechanical, warpstone powered, steam-punkish walking suit - use the suit to give him the appropriate dimensions rather than a rat ogre sized body... Maybe something clockworkish, powered by running rats? GS work *is* nice though
Second I have to agree with Araksi that he is more a giant heavy armoured Nob then a mega nob. I personally would add more curved plates to his shoulders to echo the stormvermin armour and then go to town with a big armoured skaven kit for a mega-nob.
But feel free to ignore me because that guy is fantastic.
Impressed once again with your GS skills!
Vitruvian XVII wrote:Now to me thats looking better already! I think the boots didnt help the 1st version.

Yeah it is and I'm looking at ways to un Ork it, but the legs and tail did make a massive improvment didn't they.

Did a small head on purpose I wanted him to look out of proportion to make you wonder whats actually under the robes but yeah he does feel not so mega, he's just a tester really I'll probably make a few more and I'm contemplating building a mega rat form plastic card and GS so that he's all rat just wasn't sure my skill was up to it, all things considered he took just over an hour to get right so with a little more time investment I think I could do it.

I'm waiting for the gs to cure so I can file and cut at the moment but thats the transformation so far his armor is based on Ikit claws and the predators film armor. (which I might add
is an excellent inspiration for futuristic banded armor like the skaven wear).
His right arm, I will be removing the cloth and adding in pipes and metal joints liek a dreadnaught arm he still has his claw for the moment but I'm thinking about changin it to a fist blade
like the rat ogres often have, just make it a gnarley one with chips missing and a horrid shaped head.
Mini Update - As a lot of you guys know I've been giving some love to my LEgion project the last couple of days so not much new has happened.
What I have done though is put the first basic coat of paint on the finished Doom Vermin now lots to do but you can see the new CC weapon replacing the claw
and some of the details better with some colour.
He's looking much more Skave to me, let me knwo what you guys think? He's a concept afterall
Zero highlights zero details and messy paint job I'll clean him up later probably tomorrow.
beautiful beautiful stuff!! I know I haven't been to this blog for a while, and lord knows I haven't had any time to model or paint, but I wanted you to know that you're still a huge inspiration for my army!!
Just a quick note to say not a dead army, I will be picking up some of the completed models which have been on display at my local stores for the last month next week and will likely be finihsing off some of the concept units so things will continue to slowly tack along in here.
Also I am split between my other two blogs and projects plus I have a few commission works under way at the moment and it's all time I have to steal away from three adorable kids (I wait till they
are alseep).
In other updates my Aussie IG blog is now up (not alot on there yet, still waiting for parts mostly). And my Legion of the damned army is 3 Terminators away from being finished as well.
As far as comissions I am working on some Night lords bits for a fello Dakite, a unit of Grey Knights for display not gaming, restoring a FW Baneblade for a buddy and there is more but it's a secret
so Shhhhhh!
What Skave thing am I working on? The screaming bell at the moment when I'm happy with how it's coming along I'll post some pics.
I love this army! I saw it a while ago and really liked it, but then forgot to comment on it and lost touch.. I'm very glad I rediscovered this thread! That airship really turned out amazing. Truly a work of art! Your Skave in general are just great, I kinda want to make a squad of them to be in my ork army. Thanks for the fantastic work and I look forward to more in the future!
Rumors of this armies demise, are greatly over estimated.
New stuff next week, some more painted pics and some more clanrats and finally the Airship is returning home from it's store tour.
My biggest problem with the amry at the moment is I have scrapted about 3 version (plans) for my Screaming Bell (battle wagon) and it's holding me back on
a lot of the army.
Anyway I think what I'll do is throw together some rough scetches to outline the ideas and you guys can pick the one you like the most and thats
the way I will build it. (the style of the Bell will determine the style of the trukks in the army as well, which other that finishing the casting and painting
of the Clan Rats is all thats bascially left. Though I think I will be building a techy version of the Vermin lord to use as Gaskull.
Family has been my priority lately which has pushed a few things aside but I am hoping to make a little extra time to complete this and my other projects
by the end of next month.
