NakedBatBoy's Project (B)log @ 2010/09/20 09:26:49

Post by: NakedBatBoy

I was just browsing around Dakka*2, familiarizing myself with the site and all that it encompasses. It's truly a great place! I was reading through some people's Project (B)logs and I became inspired!

My first addition to this (B)log should be the City of Death Bases I made for my Space Marines, but I posted those as a tutorial, and I don't want to double post, so if interested take a look at them HERE!
Preview:

So lately I have been getting pretty pumped about my orks. (I just bought some some off ebay today actually!) So I suppose I'll start with that...

This gun used to belong to another ork... but then this orc came along and wanted the gun. Now the previous owner's head shouts greetings to all of this ork's enemies!

I cut one of the teeth out of the skull to make room for the chain to be there and still not block up the nozzle of the Bik Shoota! I used Green Stuff (in my case I have blue stuff (i mix the blue and white parts together for it to solidify)) to make it look like straps were connecting the top area. Then I used cut up staples to look like nails holding it there.

I added some rope ("green stuff") to make it look like these things were actually fastened onto their back, not just floating there..

I used a small piece of a staple on each side of this one to make it look nailed on there

Here we have an unfortunate victim... i mean an ork prize displayed on his shoulder pad.

I used some zombie and skeleton bits along with some green stuff.

I wanted to give my army a worn/battle hardened look, so i sharpened all the choppaz and also adding chip marks with my trusty x-acto!

I want to make this ammo case that the Ammo runt is dragging to look heavy, so I built up some siding with greenstuff along the trail of the crate to make it look like it is displacing dirt. (Sorry for the bad quality)

So yeah, that's my first post. Thanks for taking a look! Stay tuned for more, and please do offer any suggestions!! Waaaaagh!!!

I also just tried out Psyker_9er's technique for making your Tyranid tails more realistic and alive and was quite happy with the results. It's called FUN WITH PLACTIC AND FIRE!! Check it out!! It will both increase your manliness and perk your imagination for thinking outside the box when it comes to modeling!

Here are some of his models:

Just so you know, there's a section just for project blogs rather than putting them into the main P&M area: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/forums/show/56.page

That said, I really like the Ammo Runt idea, might have to do that myself

Hey.

Those are some nice bases you've made. And your conversions are good too. Simple but effective.

Alright, I sent a message to a mod to have it moved over to that section. Thanks for keeping me in the know!

Also yeah, the ammo runt idea is quite simple to do, and seems almost necessary to me. (unless he were on an ice/metal planet of course)

A while back I was trying to figure out a paint scheme for my Tyranids, and am pretty sure I decided on having a white exoskeleton with a black with gray highlighted carapace and blue highlights.. so I painted some guys up. Was pretty happy with them. I was in Chicago at the time, and was gonna move some of my guys out to Seattle. A gamesworkshop guy convinced me to get some clear coat varnish to spray on and protect my guys... but when I used it, it completely clouded the details and grayed it out a lot.. Does anyone know of a way I could fix this? If not I'll likely end up either just repainting over it and fixing it, or stripping the models and starting over as it was really discouraging to see my hard work ruined. Someone suggested to me that I do another spray of the varnish on them - which might wet the 1st layer - and if I make sure it's not a humid area i do it in, this could clear it up. Does that seem like it would work? I don't have a lot of experience with clear coats personally, so any advice would be welcome! Also, if you have any suggestions for how to sharpen the color scheme a bit more, that would be awesome too.

Tyranid Warrior:

Hormogaunts:

Here's the Biovore, I didn't clear coat him, but he was one of my first painted Tyranids, so he's still a bit rough.

Also, here's some more of my minor ork mods..
Nob Optical Zoom Mod (I used a scope, cut in half, and put it on his head to make it look like he has an enhanced zoom eye thingy!)

I also cut the horns off the nob's head, and put then onto this rugged looking boy. (This is also another angle of the zoom lens!)

....I also just noticed that I missed the ork boy's choppa when I went through my hoard and sharpened and gave battle damage to them... oops! (rectifying now!)

I cut the chain below the Warboss's gun and glued in this head, simple/easy and quite effective. This could be done with anything you want to hang there.

Great looking stuff. Simple little conversions that add that special level of detail that will make your army different.

As for the Spray Varnish gone wrong....I've heard rubbing alcohol can clean it up without having to start all over. I'll see if I can find a link for you.

Ah yes, try this out for size: Read down a bit and you'll see what i mean.

Thanks guys, I will pick up some Rubbing Alcohol in the next few days and let you know how it works out. If not I'll try the respraying technique. Can't hurt to try!

Well.... I coated them with some 70% Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol today and initially when they were wet they were super clear and looked like they originally before the Fing GW matte finish.. but then once they air dried, they were even more gray/frosted than before!!! Ahhhh!

So then I tried soaking them for a little while, and then rinsing them off in hot water, but that made them even worse. They still look good when I get them wet with the rubbing alcohol, but once dry it's worse.

Help?!

So for a visual of what I'm talking about...
Here's a hormogaunt after i took it back out of the rubbing alcohol and it's air dried...

Here's the same image half dipped into some rubbing alcohol and still wet...

And here's the guys soaking in some rubbing alcohol...

Notice the black and gray armor in the cup... I miss seeing that!! Maybe I should just play with my guys as they are and just periodically dip them in rubbing alcohol throughout the game... so that they look good for small 10 minute intervals till they dry again?

Well, I've been traveling a lot and haven't had the time to post anything, or do that much, but lately I've been working on my ork trukk..

I really liked the feel of an Omaha Beach type transport... I melted the exhaust pipe to bend it to shape, I added spikes and body parts to the front, and also used some plastic to build up walls with. Here's what I got (I'm still waiting for my gunner in the mail and have some other things to do, but I thought it was due time that I posted something!):

Inspiration from the Waaaagh Nazdakka gallery.

I like the beach lander-y transport. However, something about the transition from the cab to the transport area just strikes me a bit.... wrong. Can't quite say, but maybe it's the height difference... I dunno, might just be me. But, still cool work and all that. Excelsior --Lord Kaesar II

Yeah, it's still not quite how I want it to be.. I'm thinking of building up the walls a bit more near the middle possibly.

As far as the tall cab goes though, it has to be higher so that they can see where they are driving. Example of the real thing:

Anyway, thanks for the support!

I like the trukk converison you got there. Did you for the most part just use bitz from the actual trukk box?

I think i may have to steal your idea haha.

Well, it's clearly taken me a while to getting around to updating this again. I've been traveling a lot and all that.

So recently I've finished building up my trukk (for the most part) and before that had also put together some 3 Warbikes, 5 Black Orcs with Shootas (Yeaaahhh!!!), and 4 Chaos Marines.

So here's the nice welcoming front of the Trukk:

Then a top view..
You can see I reinforced the walls a bit (by cutting the-weird-plow-like-piece in half)

Here's an undershot to see what I lined everything up with in regards to the chassis. (I hope this helps italiaplaya)

A sideview that showed the walls better and also shows the wrecking ball (You can see that I heated up the chain with a lighter and bent it. to make it look like it's swinging backwards as they drive.

Then here's a nice closeup of the cockpit. (Note the skull on a rope I attached to the bottom of the Big Shoota and that I didn't use the ugly/still/boring driver's head that came with the set...)

And a nice ending with a shot of the exhaust pipe that I wrapped around as opposed to under.

For the most part I only used the pieces from the sprue for the Trukk, but items I added include: Plastic paper clips that I cut up (the Yellow strips on the walls), Pieces of an old printer that I cut up (the very light gray walls) and two new heads (as mentioned above).

And here are my Black Orckz??? Is that a good name for them? They are the Orcs from fantasy with the modern upgrade of firepower! (Pretty much Feral Orks) I think I'll paint them up in the Goffs fashion.

I personally really like the look. I plan on also making some orck boyz with spears and chainmail and shootaz.. I just have to get around to it.

And some badly taken pictures of my Warbikes..

It's hard to see, but in this second picture you can see where I carved in tread marks on the bases previous to gluing the bikes on. I made the tread marks have a similar pattern to the bottoms of the tires as if they were actually imprinting the landscape/mud.

As always let me know if you have any questions/pointers/ideas.

Well, I sure have been busy lately with the holidays/family/gf...

A little while back I made some possible color changes to the armor on my SMs as well as adding a preliminary dark brown base color to the ground to see how it looks (as suggested by people on another thread). Check it out and let me know what you think!

I added Scorched Brown to the base (it looks really sloppy right now, and it definitely needs some more work on the base, but I do like the contrast a bit more. compared to just gray bases with silver guys on them.)... I also added some of the brown to their legs and feet to make them look a little more battle worn (also still a WIP!) and it's interesting to see that scorched brown when applied to dried boltgun metal makes it look very similar to tin bitz... so I'll need to fix that too.

So, two possible routes to proceed from so far...

The two on the right are more my original idea of being true to mostly just silver. I wanted SMs that blended into a cityscape, not ones with bright colors... but apparently that doesn't actually look that good for wargaming minitures. That's why I'm looking around for other possible variations. Suggestions would be very appreciated!

The left 2 guys have Tin Bitz and Shining Gold (I believe) added in various areas (I hope I'm not stressing the point too much, but they are very much WIP so it's a rough paint job)

And then two pictures of the guys on their own..

Thoughts??

I'm impressed man, You did those fast and they look good! I personally would have made them a tad bit more individual (putting the driver/guns on different sides for some of the trucks, switched out one of the drivers with maybe a warbike driver or another orky unit to make him look like he's doing some other orky business.. etc, Idk, I don't have another trukk yet personally. ), but I see that you made the engines all look different and that's cool. And in a way I like the more regimental look. It almost makes your army seem like it might be more individual in that way... That or you have a really Nasty/Big Warboss pushing those Boyz in line! Thanks for sharing, I'm glad I inspired.

Also, I have a question for anyone who might know.. maybe I'll search the forums later.. for a long time I was working on making the turret for the big shoota on my trukk able to rotate (like I did with the ramps) by not gluing it in place, but still having it secured onto the trukk itself. I though it would be cool to be able to rotate it, but eventually it was just a hassle and I glued it. Has anyone successfully made other moving parts that originally were'nt intended to move on the model? Is there a good easy/effective way to do it or is it something you just have to tailor to whatever you're specifically doing and possibly build up your own little rotating area for it?

Also, I've been in Cali with the GF all month, but I'll be back home tomorrow night, and then I can post some of my test paint job on my orks..

Alrighty, well here's a little squad I just pumped out this week. I've been meaning to make them for a while now really. I bought the bits on ebay months ago. I still have to make the nob and Orc Warboss (that I'm gonna turn into a Weirdboy!!) Even though I'm much more into modeling than playing, these guys will either be used as either Madboyz (to accompany my Weirdboy), Kommandos or just normal Ork Boyz depending on what I'm feeling like.

Bitz Used: Orc Boy bodies, Orc Boar Boy Arms (I liked the look of the armor on them... but boy was it a hassle to make the weird shaped stumps on the boar boys arms fit nicely with the regular flat orc torsos...) and Heads (mostly), some Black Orc shields and arms, general Ork bits to make them more modern.

So here they are:

As you can see I made a shield from scratch..

In this picture you can see that the shield is indeed recyclable! (I made it by cutting up an old gift card.)

I really like the look of them. What do you think? Are there any suggestions for how I might make them better?

you can make the turret for the big shoota rotate, you just have to be fiddly with it and it does make for a tight fit, here's a link showing a kustom kreation of mine. If you look closely in the different pics i set it up so that the turrets were facing in different directions in each shot to prove that they rotated. there was nothing special done to them other than i made sure that only the top and bottom of the turret were glued to each other, this allows the plate to spin in place before it's glued to the trukk. once the plate is glued onto the roll bars it will be the bucket portion of the turret that rotates instead.

Yeah, I had mine setup like that similarly, and for a while, it worked fine, but it wasn't really as strong as I would have liked (as the glue kept not being enough to hold it together, and it separated again and again. Maybe I should have setup a strengthening bar in the inside of the turret to fix that.. Next time!

Thanks for the response on that. Your battlewagon conversion is really great. Makes we want to scratch-build my own. I especially like your idea to have the chains connected to the boarding plank (and back door) as a way of lowering and raising the plank while still inside the wagon. Excellent idea! But really, that whole thing is just exceptional! The amount of work you've put into it is definitely apparent and worth it. The custom engine with the operable hood is sweet too.

In other news... sorry for not updating in so long. I can't find the charger for my camera battery. Life has also just not been leaving me a lot of time to model lately, but I have been doing a few things..

1) Kustom Buildin some Big Gunz out of random bitz for funziez.
2) Learning how to actually play 40k (as I never really played before), reading ork tactics, getting my butt kicked in games vs space wolves, trying lots of orky strategies, winning a few games vs some weakling eldar. The boyz are teachin me how to waaagh!
3) Priming a bunch of guys (as we've finally had a nice sunny day - as opposed to rain) here in seattle)
4) Playing pokemon black/white with my girlfriend.. and catchin them all!

Edit:
HAZZER wrote:Wow nice conversions are tghey all form ork boyz frames eg like the arms? Also nice trayinds "coff" lizzards "coff"!

No I made those older (medieval) looking conversions from Warhammer Fantasy Orcs/Orc Boar Boys/GS. I spend a lot of time mixing and matching models from different sets, as it's more fun for me that way, even if it's not that noticeable.

the problem i have is the gun, it keeps busting off where it glues onto the pintle mount. one solution to your problem might be to take a very thin piece of plasticard scrap and glue it inside the bucket on the armor plates where the two pieces meet each other. this way it would still rotate, would not interfere with the placement of the gunner, would be hidden from view, and would provide a much larger area to glue to.

Your battlewagon conversion is really great. Makes we want to scratch-build my own. thank you very much, the compliment is appreciated. and your right, it took awhile to figure this thing out, over 6 months before the build was complete, and it's still not finished. i need to add a few more armor patches to it, and a load of rivets. i am not looking forward to that process, regardless of whether i use a hole punch or plasticard rod, it means screwing around with teeny tiny fiddly bits and making sure to place them properly. and then there's the converted goblins aka sqeeky Ork students to finish, and a team of Blood Bowl Orks as well. i've already decided to have "Los Orkales County Skools" down the side of the thing, so the Blood Bowl Orks will have to be painted in a Los Angeles color scheme.

at any rate, keep up the good work. Dakka Dakka!

Thanks mate! I like the spear look a lot too! I bought extra spears for the Savage boys I'm gonna make too. I just think spears and gunz is a good look.

SebastionSynn wrote:the problem i have is the gun, it keeps busting off where it glues onto the pintle mount. one solution to your problem might be to take a very thin piece of plasticard scrap and glue it inside the bucket on the armor plates where the two pieces meet each other. this way it would still rotate, would not interfere with the placement of the gunner, would be hidden from view, and would provide a much larger area to glue to.

Yeah, that will definitely happen on my next trukk!

This sounds super cool, and I'm very excited to see the progress. I didn't see that you had a thread with this in it. I would love to see you with a blog so that I could follow along with your progress!

Also, I just took on a boy for boy swap on the Great Marine Swap thread... and it's my first time doing this kinda thing, so I'm excited! I would be down for swapping with anyone else too if you're interested. (Well, within reason, First come first served! )

This sounds super cool, and I'm very excited to see the progress. I didn't see that you had a thread with this in it. I would love to see you with a blog so that I could follow along with your progress!

well, there's three reasons why there is no P&M blog on this thing,
one, it was built to the stage you see it now, long before i found DakkaDakka. two, i don't have any kind of a decent camera to take WIP pics for the blog. three, until recently no one has commissioned me to build another beast. and almost the same thing applies to the new commission as it does to the original one, and that is again i don't have access to a decent camera except for once a week. you can see the new one in the commissions part of my gallery. However, I'm sure that my next few projects will keep you more than interested what with building a unique Looted Drop Pod, a Supa Landa, a Supa Fighta Bomma, and a Battlefortress, but before i begin i HAVE to get me a decent camera.

LOL, while i was re-reading my post down there i suddenly imagined a pep squad type deal, where the football players (Orks) are sitting in the back of the bus, and the grots/goblins are in the front being abused. makes perfect sense since grots are used as meat shields by Orks. Gonna have to draft up some new rules and pts cost for this thing to allow me to carry two units in it. At any rate, once i get a camera there will be plenty to amuse the members of Dakka.

Ok, I borrowed my friend's camera. Here's a quick update of my Ork Boy I'm planning to swap with Killamop

My thoughts while making this model were that this Ork Boy-soon-to-be-nob just went head to head with a CSM and as he was charging in, the Marine just grazed the left of his face and blew off his ear with his Bolt Pistol. The shot was cushioned by the Boy's shoulder pad. Once the Boy made it into melee he took revenge and sliced off the horn of the Marine... and eventually hacked into and through the neck of the Marine. Once the head tumbled onto the ground, he decided to take a better look at his former foe, so he stabbed the end of his choppa into it.

Here's a normal angel of the model, to give you a sense of it's dimensions (sorry it's a bit dark)

Here's the view at his face of him glaring up at the Marine's head. You can kind of see the burnt mark into the side of his face, the missing ear, and the bolt pistol's hole in his arm pad.

Back view

And a closeup of the base.. it's a bit hard to see what it is, since it's transparent plastic, but it's bricks, and then either I can fill in the upper part to be like a sidewalk, or - as I was originally thinking before i experimented with creating bricks foe the first time - some sort of grating with clear gooey liquid below it..

Also, ignore the green on the arms, the upper torso was from an old model I took apart.

Suggestions and Critiques would be appreciated.

No Ork boy should be with out his very own bloody head on a choppa... or the end of their shoota... or just a severed head as a friend to talk to.

Hehehehhe... you guys are great!

Also, you'll be happy to know that I used a soldering gun to melt a hole in the back of the head, to make the marks on the ork face and armor, and to create the brick pattern on the ground.

Alright, well I'm trying out this suggestion of just using elmers glue as a water effect (using your model as a test - sorry! - but that's what the unit swaps a re good for too!) so we'll see how it works.. If it's not good enough I can always just cover it up and go the sidewalk route if needed.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you're noticing them! (Sometimes I worry that the minor tweaks I make wont even be noticed... but then maybe that's ok, since a lot of this is really just for my own enjoyment anyway.)

Ok, so I painted a bunch last night. Hopefully will get a chance to paint a bit more tonight as well. I, for the most part, finished painting the model for my ork boy swap, and also painted up 5 of my black orc nobs, but want to finalize them more before posting their pictures. So, here are the pictures... (Choppa is not attached for shipping purposes.)

Here I am holding the choppa on. I made the gore trail from the head by melting some plastic and then painting it.

Here's a closeup of my attempt with elmers glue as a water substitute.. I painted the base green then made layers of glue dry, then did an ink wash on the top with green... not sure that I like it at all..

A view of my try at bricks and the head again...

and a view of the boy'z glare!

What do you think? Suggestions are more than welcome!

Moltar does some amazing work! I'm glad you weren't too blown out of the water by his blog that you couldn't appreciate mine as well.

And thanks for the kind words.

I'll try and post some pictures up today of my almost finished black orks..

So these guys aren't quite finished, as you can likely tell, but I wanted to share my progress and see if anyone had some suggestiong, specifically with how I might do the banner. It's a bit intimidating to me...

I really like the look of This Goff Banner but am not sure that I should attempt it, as I'm really not that good at painting freehand like that.

But either way, here are the Black Ork Nobz:

So there's clearly some things I need to touch up, but I am pretty happy with how they are looking.

You may also notice the gore I put on their weapons. B'kuz any Black Goff Ork wurf hiz teef iz gonna be taken eny chanz 'e kan tah ghet up kloz an perzunel wiff da 'umies. (Forgive my unpracticed ork tongue) I was yet again experimenting with elmers glue, but this time to use it as a texture. So I dabbed small drops on top of the red paint (gore) on their weapons, and waited for it to dry (it always shrunk much flatter than the amount of glue i applied) and then i repeated, and repeated, then finally dabbed a bit more red on top to give it depth. It's a bit hard to see, but it's an interesting look, and I may start using it more as it was pretty dang easy and kinda fun.

Closeup of the gore:

And 2 shots without the flash (that really washed the models out in the other photos)

The dreaded banner...

I'm also not sure how I feel about the base color. It seems a bit blah, and doesn't make them pop as much as I'd like - this seems to be a big weakness for me, as I choose too many neutral colors and so my models don't pop. Any suggestions for how I could alter the bases or something? I am considering making them darker brown or something as opposed to their current gray with a hint of brown.

And then I also did a rough paint job (to get a better feel for their look - they still need a lot of work) on the Goff Boyz (who according to fluff, aren't allowed to wear black until they prove themselves... but are allowed to paint their faces black. So I had fun making different designs and some of them I like more than others..

Suggestions and Critiques are more than welcome!

I agree, BatBoy. And you're not going to get any better at freehand by not attempting it To simplify it, you could do any of the 3 skulls in the top left corner of this image. (around the bad moon)
http://www.taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/download/file.php?id=263&t=1
That wouldn't be as difficult as attempting this:

@SebastionSynn - Excellent advice. I'm dealing with Orks after all! I should be worrying about making things pretty enough. Sheesh..

@bigfish - Don't worry, my burna boyz will make plenty of those.

@HAZZER - Thanks!

@Moltar - You're absolutely right. I need to just keep trying. Thanks! And thanks for the suggestions, I think I might go that route, with either of the top 2 in the second column.. Hmmm.

And thanks to everyone else that didn't comment but checked out my page.

My girlfriend's coming to visit this weekend, so I'll be busy for a little while, but after that I'll hopefully get a chance to finish up the Nobz (who I kinda wish I would have added a power klaw to at least one of - though I still have one more model not put together, so maybe I'll come up with some kind of fantasy style power klaw for him to wield!!) and their banner. I also have plans to make a very 2011 Style Big Mek Conversion (with laptop, cell phone, etc) and a goblin shaman riding ontop of an orc boy as a conversion for a Weirdboy. I also should finish up those Goff Boyz..

Thanks Skalk, that means a lot.

I just finished with a big visit to the midwest to see family and a wedding. Now I'm back home but am moving to california either the end of this month or middle of next month. So there will still be a bit of delay before I'll have a good workstation for miniatures... Thankfully I still get to look on other people's blogs and live vicariously through them for a while still - Thanks Dakka!!

My mom surprised me by wanting to buy me a gift and bought me a few miniatures on Reaper the other day when she saw me browsing their miniatures (Moltar's mention of them got me looking) so I now have some female orks to paint up in my queue as well... And yes I know orks grow under rocks, but with all that fighting all the time, I figure the warboss is gonna want some R&R now and then. Besides, the girls will be dirty scrappers too! Also, props to Reaper for having great miniatures, super fast shipping and really friendly employees!

List of things to do:
  • move/transport all my miniatures to california without breaking any
  • repair all the models that are broke during the move...
  • Ship out Killamop's ork boy for the marine swap
  • Paint the Ork banner and touch up the orc nobz
  • finish the orc boyz paint job
  • create my bigmek with his laptop/cellphone/briefcase/suit
  • customize ork chicks and paint them up
  • create my weirdboy grot riding on the shoulders of an ork boy
  • paint my trukk
  • paint all my other units
  • put together my various pieces into a nice orky looted wagon
  • other stuff I'm forgetting since I'm tired...

@ DamienOfTheWRAAAGH - Thanks man! I'll get some more stuff up when I get the chance!

So, I just had my final game in Washington before my move to Cali. My ork hoard went against So-Gnar's Space Wolves, for a final showdown! In our many previous games my orks have always had their A$$es handed to them. Yesterday though, we played two 800 point matches (we made two separate lists - so we could try out different strategies), and I pretty much slaughtered him both times. The main reason was that he underestimated my Lootaz! It was my first time using Storm Boyz (their speed was a ton of fun!) and I really got the hang of using Lootas behind my mobs of boyz.

In the first list/game I had a Warboss on a bike - but I killed everything he was in combat with (with the 15 stormboyz) before he got a chance to even hit with his PK, so that was not quite the runthrough he deserved. I'll be running him in my army again. I also had 2 squads of 20 boyz and 6 Lootaz (which killed his CC dread on the first turn!)

In the second game I used a Bigmek with a KFF along with the same two squads of Boyz, but instead of storm boyz, I had a squad of 10 and a squad of 11 Lootaz. Which ripped apart all his transports on the first turn and left him out in the open in the middle of the field. Where my boys were happy to run out to and rip his troops open.

Boy was it fun! I had never won with my orks before then. So... Yay!

Yeah, the Black Orks are great models. Then just add on bitz/weapons from the 40k Nobz, and they come together really well! I still have another one - need to come up with a cool way of making a Power Klaw for him that looks a bit more fantasy.

Also, I finished that model I'm planning to ship to Killamop for my first Ork-Swap. I put some gloss on the skin and a little elsewhere to try it out. I kinda like it a lot. I also included a few pictures to show that packaging I've done around him. I hope it's enough to get him shipped safely to the UK! The ork boys in front of the foam are just for scale.

The sword is dis-attached for shipping. It makes him a lot flatter, otherwise, the sword goes out in front of him too much.

I really like the veins I did on his arms... and you can also see the glossy goo on the ground well in this shot.

    And... Packaging!

It will go inside the padded envelope - seen below the foam in the picture... I really don't want him to break!

    Anyway, I'm back baby!

I recently ordered an earing rack for my girlfriend off ebay. When we got it in the mail, the base was broken and it no longer stood upright... So in addition to requesting they send me a new one, I proposed the idea that I could fix it for her - and better yet, improve it! She liked my idea and so I started the remodel...

I cut up a bunch of old cards (grocery store membership cards, petco cards, credit cards, etc) and used those for all the additional plates you see here. Then I just glued it all together, primed/painted it, and voila! I also added cross braces on the two side corners, to make it more stable. (Though, I'm not quite happy with the gray/black/gold paintjob, though I really like the blue glyph painting I did, and will be trying that again next time I make larger ork things. For the Blue Glyphs, I did a base coat of Ultramarine Blue, Shadow Gray scratches, then with Boltgun Silver I etched the edges and traced in the insides of the shadow gray. So, pretty simple! Does anyone have any suggestions for making the black/gray area better? It's just not doing it for me... though, I may leave it, as the GF likes it well enough already. )

    The breaks...

And in the bathroom being used...

...not the best pictures, but that's what I have for now. Just a fun/quick little project I did. Comments/Critiques wanted!

Are you mocking my rough English slang?

I'm thinking about adding lootas, far too expensive though. will be nice to see how you do them

I had never heard that slang before, but the GF explained it to me, and now I've started to use it...

If you have some friendly people you play with, and they are ok with you subbing other units in for Lootas, you should definitely give them a try. They are super powerful. I've ripped tanks and SM's to shreds with them. Lovely amount of dakka!

@finnan - Thanks for taking a look! I hope you'll be around later to tell me to slow my painting down and do better!

So I've been playing a few games lately. I played 2 games at my FLGS with fuegan17 who ran a pretty brutal IG army that pretty much leveled both of my 750pt ork armies. That was fun though. I'm still working on those custom lootas I've been working on. Been busy with Concerts/Vet trips/DMV/Dnd/girlfriend things... This week I played a really fun game with my friend in Seattle, and I made up a battle report for it. We played on GoogleDocs Images. It worked really well. Check it out. I would love some critiques on my strategy. 500 pt Orks VS Daemons - Critiques Welcome! We're planning to have another match this weekend.

Two more battle reports have been posted.

In both of these I tried a Mek army with 9 Kans 2 KFF's 2 Dreads, and then some variation. I really enjoyed the games... though I had some terrible luck in both. I would love any advice you have, or just a friendly "Waaagh!"
1000pt Nurgle Daemons vs Mek Orks
1000pt Mek Orks VS Dark Eldar

Thanks, and sorry I have been lazy lately about posting modeling pictures. I have been dinking around on things, but none of it has felt picture worthy..

Anyway, thanks as always for stopping by!

Haha, fine fine. I'll try and get some up tomorrow...

The boy is still unshipped. I was going to mail it out at work since there's a drop box there that weighs your package and prints packaging... but they don't ship personal things international... sooo yeah... I still haven't made a trip to the post office. I'll do that soon too. Our friend who works at a bakery brought over a couple dozen cupcakes this weekend, and we've been feasting on them... I'm still kinda in a food coma.. Sooo tasty....

I appreciate the update. That would indeed be a huge bummer!

Thanks a ton for the interest M0rdain! I really do need to post things more often though... On the issue of kustomizin your wifie's things, don't limit it to just earring racks! Maybe you could decorate the outside of some mirror she likes a lot with a bunch or boys running around clobbering grots? Or make he actual orky earings... or I suppose you could do this kinda thing with any race really.. but orks are the most fun

I just checked out you D&D Eliza fighter. Awesome work converting that bloke into a chick!

    Ok, here's the promised update...

As said previously, I've been working on some Lootas. I feel like I've made decent progress on these guys, though looking at these pictures closer up I see a few mold lines I have to get still... The paint you see on these guys was on the model when I purchased it on ebay. They all used to be boyz but I bought a 30 boy squad for cheap so I cut them up into things I want them to be...

For these first two lootas, I used the Dakka Kannons (along with platicard) from the ork bikes. I really like the look.

This guy wouldn't fit between the guns with both arms, so I decided he lost an arm sometime in a previous fight, and got this setup by his Friendly Local Mek Boy so that he can still shoot lotsa dakka.

This was the first of the lootas that I made. The clear barrels are from a mechanical pencil. (The clear cylinder that holds the lead) I like how he turned out a lot.

I carved out his fingers a bit better than the original hand, so that it looks better

I really hate the head on this guy... It's the head of the trukk driver, I believe... not sure why I used it. I think it's a very boring face, but have been wanting to use it on something... maybe I'll start to like it better as I get to painting it. This boy couldn't quite afford the traditional deffgun, so he settled for two highly tweaked sluggas... they seem to do the trick until he can afford even more dakka.

This Lootas is just so excited about getting to shoot his gun that he had to do a fist pump! I carved out the fingers on this one. It used to be holding a gun.

Part of this guys left arm got blasted off a while back, but that didn't stop him from getting to blast away the enemy! This guy was a hassle to do... The glue just didn't seem to want to hold his arm together. I first tried plastic glue, then started over and tried Epoxy... then just super glue... settled with adding more supporting beams on the outside as you can see... THere's a lot of glue residue in there, but it's not as sloppy as it looks. Once painted it should look a lot better.

Here's a crouching Loota... (I'm clearly going to be using some boys with BigGuns as my Lootas... And if anyone has a problem with it they can suck it!

    Other guys..

And a group shot.... If you look in the background, you can see the metal model of some chick that will eventually be my warboss's ork lady friend. Yeah... sometimes, my orks grow to become lady orks. Their seeds are just better than normal ork seeds.

    Suggestions/Comments are encouraged/desired!

Yeah, just cut one of the legs off at the hip and reposition it. Pretty simple conversion.

Love crouching guy. Armless could do with some wires and gubbinz between his stump and the ammo box - really wire him in there!

I love your Orks! Very Nice conversions! Great attention to detail, with making sure the stikk bombs look like they are actually attached! And Black Orks are always a win! Your beach lander transport Trukk blew me away! So awesome! I may have to use that idea! Keep up the good work!

An equal opportunity employer it's not as if they have a choice, I doubt that orks have a disability benefits scheme!
