Been on hiatus a while, but I FINALLY recovered the Termies after Spray Disaster 2010. Remember all thread readers, after a frosty spray incident, coat them with gloss SPRAY (not brush on), reapply dullcoat (testors or tamiya, never GW again lol), touch up and voila, you can get back about 90-95% of the original quality...

So, here, is the completed squad #1!

Wow, I would never have known that they had suffered catastophic meltdown seeing them now!

I know, I can't believe I managed to recover them, I really thought they were write-offs... There are still flaws from the 'incident' but more or less they appear close to perfect in terms of their pre-spray state. Most of the remaining problems are some minor frost speckles here and there, and some texture.

Still, I think I would have given up on the hobby for another 2 years had I needed to do them all over again lol!

I'm itching to hit the hybrids, but I want to complete the models that came with the box first, just to ensure that even if I fizzle out a bit on the pace, at least I finished the main game! lol

Still, there are going to be a lot of fantastic models for me to much with, between the Dantenator, the hybrids, the remaining termies, the magi... I just have to keep resisting the urge to buy new minis and ill be fine! Stupid FW lol

I don't know if you want to hear this, but i think you may have invented a new technique. I really liked them before the disaster, but I think I like them better now that you have cleaned them up. In the photos at least there is a aged character to the armor and it's not just the stellar paint job. The armor looks like it had seen the eons of battles that terminators are supposed to go through and been dutifully repaired. Or if you look at old cast tanks, the metal is never flat, it's textured. Sometimes I would get a a metal marine that was poorly cast, the details would piss me off, but the slight texture the miscast gave the armor was really cool. I really like the effect.

How bout I'll buy the FW models, and you can paint em and send em back

The only good thing (not for you really) about the repair process is it gave me time to catch up on the 1st 11 pages, so I can comment like I know whats going on, lol.

Lol, how could I take such a well structured compliment wrong?? I agree the patina on some areas actually turned out quite interesting, it's fuzz in some of the finer detail areas like eyes that throw me off a bit, but for the armor plating I am fine with it. Wow, the recovery really is nothing short of spectacular!

It's nice to see the models recovered, and the hybrid is looking great as well. I like the ribbing on the holster, a nice touch!

Lol nowhere near done! I have 6 termies left (Callistarius and squad Gideon) to complete the boxed set...

BUT

To complete the project as per my original plan, I have this much left -

Modelling and Painting
8 4th Generation hybrids
3+ Magi Coven models (juvenile psyckers)

Painting -
Terminator Dante
5 more termies (Cyclone, SB and PF, another Sarge with sword and SB based on Cullen)
2 oop metal hybrids (Magi Coven Body guards)
1 oop metal magus (counts as juvenile magus)
1 Custom sculpt Magus
3 custom sculpt heavy weapons 1st generation hybrids
3 custom sculpt shotgun 2nd gens, with 1 'controller' model (he remotes the 1st gens, they can lift the big guns easily, but require guidance to place themselves properly)
3 4 custom sculpt 3rd gen assault hybrids
9 heavy modification 4th gens, lasrifles

So as you can see, quite a ways to go, don't worry, this thread will be around for quite a while lol. After the box set models are done, it will be all custom from then on, I know that is what people want to see most, so don't worry, no more lightly modded box models after the next 6 termies!

And then he has to paint my FW red scorpions.......

Incredible stuff major tom Your skills with green stuff are some of the best I have ever seen. Good job sir.

Glad to see you were able to save them from the the dreaded foggy sealer. Goriel definitely takes the cake as my favorite. Keep up the great work!

Thanks man! Although my GS stuff is mostly in the first 6-7 pages, most of the recent stuff is from FreakForge (Dante) and InquisitorEarl (Recent Hybrids), so credit where credit is due!

Goriel got some extra love, I'm not sure it's quite visible in the pics, but can you see the little ripper swimming in the sewage through the broken grating underneath? I was kinda proud of that little touch... Kinda hard to see with all the goo coming off the squished stealer though lol

Here's an update:

2 3rd Gens pretty much done. Arms are also done but left off so you can see the torsos. I'll take some pictures of them with the arms too.
There are a couple of small details I can see i've missed and I'm going to do a few milliput washes to smooth some areas.

I am curious what the arms are looking like, and how it will fit with the third arm, on mine, I had to shave down the ghoul arm and kind of jam it under the armpit to keep it from looking like it was growing out of the hip, can't tell yet about these ones!

I am also looking forward to that final layer of detail and minute texture, you are a master at it!

Just got back from Maui yesterday, getting ready for a business trip to Boston tomorrow, so not much mini'ing getting done atm. When I get back though, things will finally settle down a bit after the busiest summer ever... I am looking forward to some peace and quiet and some quality time with my hobby!

On a side note, let's all send a good thought to Inquisitor Earl who lives in Christchurch NZ, I haven't heard from him since the quake (not that I would expect to be at the top of his to do list after that lol!), so let's hope everything is ok for him and his family!

Dante should be interesting, I am debating doing NMM but I don't have enough experience in it atm... so maybe a metallic paintjob with NMM style highlighting??? mmm

Still exciting to look forward to painting something after slogging and recovering those 5 termies! Focusing on 1 mini instead of a group will be a welcome relief!
