Which one of you decided to fill my dirt mine back up with dirt? I just had to clear it out. It took about 20 minutes.
It was not fun.
TL;DR: WE HAVE ANOTHER GRIEFER
Which dirt mine?
I know Corpses and I filled up a hole you made to dig right down into my complex' mine system (finally found the damn thing no matter how hard you tried to hide it), but it wasn't what I'd call a dirt mine.

It wasn't that, don't worry. It was that hole that you and corpses were yelling at me for digging it on his property.

There is loads of room.
Chowder decided to build 50 blocks away from my house and dig a system of tunnels under and around said house, which is a bit of a faux pas for obvious reasons.
haloreach4ever wrote:May i say that i lost my second chance to a PLAN. (i also dont think it was a fair thing to be banned for)
If you break the rules, you get banned. Whether you think it's fair or not is a moot point. The rules are there. Obey them and play, or break them and don't. There aren't many shades of grey there to get confused about. The internet isn't a democracy, and playing on the Dakka server is a privaledge, not a right. If you can't accept the blame for your being banned, then it just proves that a ban was the right move.
Slarg232 wrote:Wow, you guys really are territorial....

Oh yes, there's plenty of room! Maps are approximately as large as a quarter of the distance between the earth and the sun. Head towards the furthest home you can find, then head five hundred or a thousand blocks out. There's likely free space there.
Use buckets is a way to do it. You can actually put a block of water into another block that way, destroying the first block. All you need is a single bucket, though it may take a while anyway.
Slarg232 wrote:Wow, you guys really are territorial....

yes, always enough room.
It's just the corpses/melissia side of things are a bit iffy about building nearby.
I have no problem (normally) with it as long as it looks good.

you get into arguments.
you start plans of a territorial war.
you blow up another's house (whether accident or no)
you build lots of eye-sores.

thanks for being more mature about this. I appreciate it.
Good news: I figured out that it's because of whatever the Geek Squad mucked about with on my computer when I took it in last. I was going to have to take it back in, due to my browser acting wierd (Text disappearing, wierd colors showing up across the screen, stuff like that), and every time I try to go to Minecraft, an Error Report comes up on my desktop, something that never happened before I took it in.
Bad News: Wont be able to try it till after I get it back from bestbuy.
Good News: I get it free, since I'm selling my Magic Cards for $25 to a coworker.
Edit: You guys use Vent or just text eachother in game?
Well my SMP (and connection in general) got Glitchier and glitchier until it finally stopped working completely.
@Melissia - I kind of had to hide out in your big wooden thing near the snow (with the giant bedroom on ground floor) don't worry I haven't touched/used anything, I just needed to wait out the night as I have 2 hearts left and only a wooden sword (not able to maintain a connection long enough to actually do anything). See, I thought so too. So I tried deleting Java entirely, and redownloading 64bit. Nada. Got rid of 64 bit and dl'ed 32bit. Still zilch improvement. Tried dling both 64bit AND 32bit and not a darn thing.

Lots of good candidates for mods were put forward, but I made darkinnit the new op. Primarily because I know him and trust him enough that I can give him full access to restart the server when it goes down which is more useful than just being a standard op. There will no doubt be some teething problems in the handover, and he cant stop it crashing thanks to the bad MC code so dont expect any real difference in uptime. He is now the go-to guy over griefing, etc. and will post here sometime in the next few days no doubt.
We might add another op in the future for a US timezone, will see how it goes for now.

eagle, I'll help too when you get on.
for anyone that wants to help me I have a little plan.
It will require 1 sapling, 2+ people, 10 obsidian, a flint and steel, a bed, stacks of sand and about 30 dirt.
basically a survival island thing. I travel away from buildings and find a big sea/lake.
I set a sandy island up with one tree, a cactus and a seed.
the portal's just for ease of access.
you and someone else has to survive xxx amount of time there.

Does he have whitelist power too? Would love to see the server.
Anyway, this is just a quick post to say hi, and to reassure you all that I do read the two Minecraft threads here. (If there are other threads I should be checking, let me know). I'll make a more detailed post later when I'm not at work.
Don't you mean...
BONBAONBARDLEMENTS!
I had to Google that, but the results all just return to Dakka. I'm aware of the Nuke it from orbit meme from Aliens, but to "Bonbaonbardle" sounds like you want to pelt me with sweet tasty Bon Bons (which I'd have no objection to!).

Bonbaonbardlements was a hilarious misspelling from a couple of years ago when some kid linked his website (a mimicry of the gamesworkshop site) on dakka in a thread called TRY MY SITE!1!!, the battle reports inside it featured his space marines winning the game by calling in BONBAONBARDLEMENTS which instantly killed the opposing force.
Yeah, server's down. Lego's not given me my full powers just yet, so I can't restart it. It'll be back after the scheduled reboot at 18:39 GMT (in an hour or so).
I've been getting the same thing, log in keeps timing out. Probably more to lag than the server crashing because it's a different message.
As for the underwater city, I intend to get the main dome up next time I play. Kind of hoping the nether portal can go into the dome. Plans at the moment are to try to get it like a park, so fun for me getting grass down there. Next I'd probably build up the farms to make it self sufficient, but at the same time I guess people could start moving in as well. I haven't seen the site that Corpse mentioned, but if it's big enough I might make it so as you can all just build within the dome assigned. If it's too small then the dome itself would basically have to be the house.

ghosty, I moved back home, not too far off from civilisation actually, about a day's travel.
FFS the stuff dark restored to me got lost. I died to void damage (chunk missing) near wolf's and got disconnected (server backup) before I could get on again. Then it kept saying "internal error" and by the time I got on my stuff had despawned.

I told you to put that stuff in a chest, not carry it around with you all the way out to Wolf's. If you have stuff you consider precious, look after it. I shouldn't have to say this, but when you see a chunk error (you can see them from a good distance) don't go near it while carrying precious things! Log off and log on to save your inventory.
Who's is the Huge, Ruined, Cobblestone tower in Dakka Town?
It seems to have appered very recently, but no one I have spoken to seems to know who's it is.
It has a sign on it saying Danger do not enter, but also a sign saying 1-13 free 14 jason.
When you go inside, there are two accessable floors, each with beds.
I was just wondering who it belongs to, and who managed to build something of that size so quickly. And why it's ruined.

I could basically jump from the top of his castle down onto your fence . It's taht damn close. If that had been my castle, I'd have given you one day's warning before burning it down. But it's Corpses' prioperty. But he obviously doesn't want your damn dit mine or that stupid tunnel under his snow castle. So respect your magnanimous host's simple and understandable wishes-- and he is your host, as you are on his property-- and stop digging there. Honestly chowder, do you have ANY sense of respect for personal space or property?
That building you have? It's not really yours in my mind. It's corpses. He's just allowing you to build and use it. I woudl support him the whole way if he were to take it down. You built literally ontop of his lawn, a little ugly wooden zit on an otherwise unblemished snowy terrain, and now you're digging it all up.
This is the reason why brandywine has such strict rules I should note, to Shrike's credit.
Hey, so heres a question for you guys: Is it possible to build Trebuchets or anything of the sort?
Not saying I want to attack anyone, but it would be fun to make a sort of shooting minigame or something. Perhaps a little building out in the middle of nowhere, invite you guys over to my trebuchets, blow it up.
I solemnly swear I would never attack anyone elses property with them.
A TNT cannon is possible, but point it in to the middle of nowhere, as they can fire a very long way. Although, it woudn't be much of a game, because a TNT cannon has a set direction once built.
You could have a competition to see who could build the best one though.

Only with TNT cannons, but I had a similar idea. fence off an area (about 100x100 blocks) a good 500 blocks from the nearest house, build a cobble castle, and have 2 people attacking the castle with swords and a cannon with one guy inside with a few arrows and a sword.
what I really want notch to add:
custom paintings.
chairs and tables (maybe gain more health when sat at one and eating?)
aether
bug fixes
lag fixes
SMP code fixes
lanterns (lights up area if you have it in hotbar, light level same as jack-o-lanterns/glowstone):
I I I
I G I
I I I
that + torch.
iron hatches.
water gates (like doors/hatches but lets water through)
shields in wood/iron/diamond (counts as armour if you have it in your hand, allows for more combat skill swapping between them)
wood recipe:

And I also want more mobs. Notch was going down the right path when he introduced tamable wolfies.
And I also want something to fly in SMP. Like putting the planes mod in the original version of minecraft.
Yeah I know, I know, I can keep dreaming...
maybe a ridable flying pig! I reckon a dragon (basically a ghast), but very rare and can be tamed with a saddle and by feeding it 2-6 diamonds, but respawns when killed and can be trained to fire at players (point and right-click while riding them)
Noooo. I lost seven stacks of sandstone and two stacks of wool in the crash. Can an op replace them? Pleaaase. I needed those for my new house! I even obtained the sandstone from Iustis in exchange of 1,5 stacks of iron!
I have opened up a Military Research facility near the Stronghold, as my main area, and base of operations. It bears resemblance to a castle, it has a single tower, and a Two thick wall surrounding an area.

well this latest patch has made this game pretty much unplayable. i got bored with my first 2 world and tried to make more but even if i save frequently the game will lock up my PC and when i restart my world will be gone.
i spent a good few hours on my last world to have it lock my PC up and dissapear upon reboot.
so i tried a new world again, i didnt put a seed in and i left everything default and as i walk around my new world i realise it looks pretty familiar.
and then i go over a hill and find my base i was building from my OLD world.. i have no items or anything and this was a fresh world.

Chunk error, they're quite common it your situation, I suggest you delete the .minecraft folder and let it redownload, clearly something is a little messed up in there.

i would agree it was a chunk error as there was a massive square hole in one of the hills that my base was on. that world is also no longer from another error where i saved and exited and it freezes upon start up. oh well.
so i was watching Troy and i realized that the way they made Troy in the movie would be really do-able in Minecraft. so after making a few new worlds to find the right world i finally found a spot for my Troy. The hardest part was finding an area that was flat and large enough. i wandered through a Tundra biom untill i found a MASSIVE frozen ocean.
I will be using sandstone for my structures and walls and even though this is just SSP i am still going to minimalize any possible creeper damage by making a nice tall and thick wall with an internal wall of obsidian. That way any creeper explosions will just need exterior fixing.
i am really enjoying this map as my location and biome is making it a real challange. i had to import trees into my area so i could build stuff and i have been having a rough time finding coal and iron as well as a decent cave system that has lava.
It's just for updates about the Dakka Minecraft server, so I don't end up spamming the thread every single time it goes down. Also you guys can DM me there and if I'm awake, near a computer and can confirm the server's kaput, I'll try to sort it out. You can still PM me here if you hate Twitter ;-)

I picked a good time to get interested in redstone
...
I just fell into lava and lost a full stack of obsidian, around 7 stacks of redstone dust, a stack of repeaters, a diamond pick (although it was near death), an iron pick, 9 iron ingots, a load of redstone torches, a stack of coal and some other stuff :(
We really really need walls on our nether walkways.
Hi everyone. I would like to introduce you to my new friend: Bob the pig (you can also call him Piggy Bob)

Sorry about that grundz and vinnie, my mc crashed and now I can't get back on
The reason I left the first time was due to the lost redstone.
It's okay, I fixed it just now. I wonder if the Java site has their downloads mislabeled... I'm running 64bit Windows 7 and IE9 64 bit, but Java wants me to run V6.0 in 32bit. So I tried that, and voila.

Yea java is screwed up lol, I had roughly the same issue.
Finally able to play minecraft again on a semi-regular basis. I started a worl on the DAKKA seed yesterday and got ten iron ingots before my first night was over. I also hate how my render distance has to be Tiny to work and that F3 causes my entire screen to progressively go red, white and black. No different to my old computer though, I suppose. Ah well.

The old server is really weird. They installed a lot of mods and plug-ins and keep changing it every few days or so. The server here is just so much easier because it doesn't change a lot.

It's really a nice server. A good ambiance, a nice world, nice people to mine and build with, etc. Probably one of the nicest servers I've ever played on.
However, we've had some grievers (I honestly hope we're done with those idiots now), and sometimes, the server crashes, but apart from that, it's great.
corpsesarefun wrote:Dakka is on my favourites and it has an icon taking up about a sixth of my startup screen on chrome, most people that use my computer see it
well i have given up trying to make new worlds with this current version of minecraft, the game locks my PC up and then eats my world. for some odd reason my old worlds stay.
so in my quest to build Troycraft i went back to my first original world where i have oodles of mined resources at my disposal and i picked a direction and walked. and boy did i walk. it took about 1800-2000 blocks before i found a nice frozen lake in a tundra biome that was large enough for my project.
i also found a nice cave that will be my source of lava and ore and sand/sandstone.
so i marked out my walls and put the first inner sandstone layer in as well as started on the first tower that goes at each corner.
my walls are 10 blocks high on top of the ice with the exposed parts of the wall being sandstone and the inner wall being cobblestone and obsidian.
i will have to post some pcitures when progress is further along.
i seem to have a problem growing trees, because where i am building is a frozen wasteland i needed to plant saplings nearby so i could make storage and tools. unfortunately of the 17 or so saplings i planted only 3 have grown into trees. i sort of randomly planted them on the dirt but it seems once grass grows on the block the tree will not grow. any suggestions?

my treefarm is a brick of dirt and about 50 saplings underground lit by torches and it grows like weeds
if you look up and mine as tall as you can, the trees will grow 4 tall.

The issue with walls is we aren't sure if sticky pistons pull rows or just single blocks yet, if it is the former retractable walls over 1 high are possible but if it is the latter they aren't.
I know several techniques for making the walls erect themselves though.

or have a roof already built.
or a gazibo with fence poles, and when you hit a switch the walls pop up around it. that'll be my new house.
you could always have a roof that is a tree canopy or hidden inside a tree canopy so it looks less out of place.
pistons and spikes are giving me all sorts of ideas on how to boobytrap my house. i wonder if players would take damage from blocks closing a passageway.
on a completely random note.. what about making bumper cars or a human pinball machine using pistons on ice and players in minecarts?

Closing blocks on a player shifts them out of the block and makes them take suffocation damage.
Pistons don't push people with much force but using an ice floor it is possible to push them a reasonable distance.

I have just thought of an awesome PvP idea!
An arena made of ice, walls lined with pistons, all connected to a bunch of clocks so they all fire randomly. All players start in front of one of the pistons, no-one is allowed to touch movement keys, just aim and swing swords!

I'll go take a look.

bumper cars I was gonna have in my theme park with boats, but human pinball sounds cool. the arena idea I like even more though tree canopy roof sounds cool.
Imma have a secret house built, where if you hit a switch dirt blocks move away to reveal a house in a hill.

i was thinking of pressure plates in the middle of an obsidian hallway and when the trap is sprung the walls close in towards the player from each end, thus pushing them towards the middle where trapdoors over lava open and the player burns to death.
sort of an extreme version of GET OFF MY LAWN or GET OUTTA MY HOUSE.

I have something similar already defending my "good" stash various false walls, bottomless pits and such pretty much doom anyone that ignores the signs
but obsidian can't be pushed...
maybe just the walls (cobble?) close in and suffocate the player?
or maybe as it closes have a sign reading "this way to safety" and a minetrack cart which leads to a lava guillotine?
How about using the same concept but horizontal? you get pushed by cobble made in the same way as the self building building house triggered by a pressure plate. this could push you into a lava pit!

Possible however the pushed blocks would catch on the pressure plate.
Devastator wrote:How about bouncing bettys? Tnt jumped up by those launchers.
No blocks can be launched by pistons so the best you could do it push the tnt up a bit before it explodes and destroys the piston and all controlling circuitry.
Melissia wrote:Try combining the piston, tnt, and a cobblestone fountain to continue to push the tnt up so it doesn't destroy the piston.
Tnt destroys cobble though?
I was thinking something like that, with more distance as required, though it may require too long of a redstone chain. Sure it destroys blocks, but it DOESN'T destroy the valuable piston.
What should I do with it! It's safely underground, so Mob Arena is a acceptable idea. There is also very easy acces to alot of Lava and a lot of water from inside the room.
