We may have tons of zombies, but not armored zombies.
There's a difference.
My brother is constantly clamoring for armored skeleton/ zombie types, so maybe this will finally be the campaign that makes him succumb to the Darklands affliction.

Armored Zombies are his particular weakness, as Lizardmen are yours then?

I'm not super familiar with Kickstarter... is it still possible to buy into the old ones or are those prices/bundles gone?
I guess I could get on board with the new one?
My only problem with this game is that as it emerges I find it tough to navigate the website and find information. I think they should make it easier to get started.. maybe some starter packs? I want to know the lore, figure out the rules and figure out how to get started with a buddy.
A gritty skirmish fantasy game is what I've been craving. These are amazing and if the rules work, this could end up being my favourite game.
Sadly, once a kickstarter is over it's generally not possible pledge for the rewards that were offered. Though for the past few projects Mierce have offered access to the older figures at a reduce price compared to their RRP. So if you pledge for the next one you should have access.
Of course, this one could be different and not provide access, so don't take it as read.
As for rules, you can see the current quickstart rules, muster rules and muster lists in most of the project updates. So there's links all over this thread, though for ease of reference this is one of today's updates and has links to the relevant pdf files near the end.
The one thing that isn't really collected at the moment is background / fluff, but there's enough around and I'm sure if you've an idea of which kindred(s) you're interested in we can find some snippets.
Dammit, and I was going to persuade myself to give this KS a miss, but the Jute/Wights look damn sexy in a creepy honestguvi'mnotanecrophiliac kind of way.
As I understood it the Jutes weren't going to be a kindred in their own right, like the Vras. So who do they get to join in with in a fight? Or did I get that bit wrong?
@StaggerLee - Atalantes, none (although they can use Khthones warriors); Érainn, the Albainn (and Dal Riata eventually); Jutes, the Angelcynn (except for Northumbraland), the Friesians.
Creator Mierce Miniatures about 1 hour ago
@Jordan - no, nothing like that; the only things the Jutes bring back from the dead are old Jutes... so no undead Trolls, or Dyndraig, or anything like that. However, there are different forms of Wiht (note that there will not, ever, be any zombies).
@Rick B - the Jutes are all about beetles... the Wihts are all about spiders. Note the spider symbology on Sigheard. There'll definitely be no spider cavalry though, that's jumping the shark too much for me. Sorry David.
While yes, reptiles tend to be my biggest vice (actually, it's just about anything with scales, so aquatic stuff is pretty much fair game as well), my brother has a particular fondness for armored undead. Doesn't necessarily have to be be specifically a zombie or skeleton. It just needs to be a dead body in proper kit, not the rags and tatters the undead are usually associated with.
That Jute looks like his type of model. I'll see if I can sucker him in.
I tried taking pictures of some recent models I finished, but my wife said my photos suck so she will take nice ones (supposedly).
I don't think anyone else has a painted Mag Ap Mag yet, do they? Maybe mine will be the first!
I want to see the two hydra leaders in the flesh! Anyone tried putting one together yet?

Backing Darklands: New Kindreds will give you access to our back catalogue at 20% off, as is usual, and I'm also going to allow people to purchase Darklands: First Edition stuff at a smaller discount (probably 10%) simply because I don't want to take the mick out of D:FE backers. So you do get access to previous Kickstarter stuff.

The Jutes are a totally separate kindred, and they can ally with the Angelcynn (except Northumbraland) and the Friesians.

Now I am not an expert in Irish mythology but I have this image of cauldrons, out of which "creatures" rise, which I always thought as undead, zombie like things. I was expecting such a concept for the Erains. But maybe this is closer to the Ysians.
If Mierce want to keep me as a customer we need to have discussions about Albainn independence. Or an Albainn independence discount. And a Shetland subfaction. :-P
Isn't that Khthones independence? Anyway like most of the time I'm interested in Mierce kickstarters, just a bit burnt out from the glut of them. However that's the only way they do business so.. Blah. I'm hoping we also get more Ysian models that aren't just into bondage. I guess that's half their schtick but it just seems juvenile in comparison to the rest of the game design, even when I laugh childishly at rhino man penis. Probably shouldn't have picked so many Ysians up. Anyone want some untouched Ysians?

Hehe... you know as well as I do the Scots are an Irish tribe... the Albainn are more like the Brythoniaid. The Welsh were the population of Scotland south and east of the Clyde... don't get me started on the Vikings in Scotland, neither
Zond wrote: But are we independent enough from Brythonaid and Angelcynn interests? :-P
Edinburgh was founded by Edwin... an Angle. Northumbraland included most of south east Scotland for three hundred odd years! 'Nuff said... maybe we should sneak over the border and take Lothian back from you!
Khthon already have been released from the shackles of bondage.
It's time for the dragons as well.
I mean, what the hell? My poor buddy Mag Ap Mag has to fight and face death in leg shackles! Why? For some ancient promise to a bunch of handlebar brandishing skirt wearers?
What's his crime, other than looking devilishly sly and clever?
Those with scales should not follow those without.

Yeah, awesome, hurr hurr hurr, those daft sweaties eh, with their silly "democracy" and "politicians that actually have an electoral mandate". Don't suppose it's percolated in that you might have a few customers up here that would object to boiling down a movement that consists of at a minimum 40% of the Scottish populace to snide dismissals of one politician?
Damn Yodhrin. Should we add Nicholaus, Lord of Flies? Edmund of the Mill? Can't think of something to add for David Cameron. So yeah, Hurr Hurr, forgive a fellow Scot for poking fun at current events. I'm extremely sorry if my barely comedic proposal for a model in relation to an upcoming vote which I am undecided on had caused you to rage out against Mierce. I brought it into the thread as a joke, Mierce responded jokingly, displaying their customer communication skills.
I was all set to finish my Dynwocor guy, Mag Ap Mag. He just needed a few final touches, a bit of embellishing, seal him, and he was ready to play.
Sadly, a rather large hardcover comic fell off the shelf nearby, and landed on him.
I'm still picking up the pieces. I know I'm missing some spikes and horns.
He was immediately rushed back to the painting table where I tried to reglue his limbs back together (nevermind the ones that shattered on places that weren't even connection points before.
I found a picture of him from earlier in the week that I thought I had already deleted.
Spoiler:
My brother, who has no interest in fantasy really, has now said he'll be checking out the Jutes after seeing last week's preview.
EDIT- photo doesn't seem to be working for some reason. Oh well. I stuck it on my Dakka gallery too. You can see my terrible anime villain inspired Belech behind him.
A link just in case: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/647264-Dead%20Wocor.html
Those are looking really sweet! The marsh monster thing is pretty tempting all by itself. I love the Greeks too, though their spear heads are terribly impractical. That is really glaring to me :(
I've got £100 in for the monstrous set and I'll probably double it for x2 (I've finally accepted that it's all about the monsters for me), but I'll be throwing the rest in at strategic points.
That remains to be seen. I'm hoping something from FE2 (I dunno if they're in but there's a chance, and also a chance of FE2 alternates, from what I've read) so...Oghur, werewolves, brutes, or fiends I expect. Maybe alt minotaurs or lizard men too though.
I think its really important to note the three sculptors for the starting monstrous beasties: Roberto Chardon doing the Bull (I Bet he has it finished before MIKH finishes his bull), Allan Carrasco on the Fen Beast, and Aragorn Marks on the beetle.
I think this may be Aragorn's first sculpt for Mierce since the 'first run' of models. VERY exciting to see him in the fold again.
Also hoping this big badass becomes an Eirann model:
£80K to 'unlock' the Monstrous Infantry - that might take a while to get to...I hope we get to see them long before then!

£15,000 - Alternate Generals

You guys have smashed through £10,000 in about half an hour, so it's time to bring you a little stretch goal!
At £15,000, which is not too far away, we have all those project exclusive alternate generals to chuck at you...
These guys are strictly project exclusive; they will never, ever be released to the general public, although we do reserve the right to produce them for sale at shows and events.
No Exchanges!
Please note, we will not exchange the alternate general within the starter hosts for any other miniature, so please don't ask! They are tied to their host.
The reason for doing this is simple - logistically it's a nightmare to exchange miniatures and will lead to errors when we get to packing your orders. Of course, we are very sure that other backers will help out with exchanges, and our forums are the perfect place to do so!

You can't resist. I know I can't. I mean look at them. The dead of black barrow. The sinister wraith. The giant beetle. All sculpted by Aragorn Marks none the less. They call to you...
Amazingly, we're funded in about three hours - that is some going guys. Fantastic!
Not only do we get the Alternate Warriors and Generals, and of course the New Kindred Generals, the project is now a reality! - give yourselves a pat on the back!
Apparently I'm the Leader of this particular branch of the Mierce Militia - or was that The Miercenaries?

£25,000 - More Extra Infantry Warriors

Okay... £20,000 has been and gone... it's time to bring you our next stretch goal, set at £25,000, so just a stone's throw away!
These four sets round off our "alternate infantry warriors" quest, meaning that every single infantry unit can now field at least four different warriors - meaning they shouldn't all look the same when you put them in the field!
Starter Hosts
What's that you say? Will there be Starter Hosts based around these guys? Well... there just might be... more details on that tomorrow!
Hmm. Blind, topless bondage women, or dead guys? That's a tough choice. I think I will be backing this one for sure, but I'll only be going in for a £25 infantry squad. I gotta save the rest of my cash for Infinity.
in for an infantry starter. If you could mix and match the triple starter I'd likely up to that, but it seems locked into just the three new ones. I may cave anyways at some point in the add on phase.
I do wish the starters didn't auto include dice/tokens. I (and likely many, many others) have a ton from the previous campaigns and they're basically just raising the price for little added value for me.
The Jutes and Atalantes basic troops look totally awesome.
Bossk_Hogg wrote: in for an infantry starter. If you could mix and match the triple starter I'd likely up to that, but it seems locked into just the three new ones. I may cave anyways at some point in the add on phase.
I believe Mierce said that it could be mixed with the existing kindreds, but I'd double check with them for sure. If so, I'd go for the triple, as you'll save some money, and get the Mounted sell sword girl (I can't spell her name, so I'm not even going to try )

@Ehren - and others - you know what, sod it. Use the "NEW KINDRED INFANTRY STARTERS" for any mix of three as well as the original purpose... I'll worry about the drain on my time later ;o) @Jordan - I totally understand where you're coming from, and that's why we've put the infantry first... monstrous infantry opens wallets, and wallet opening is good mid-project ;o) @Eric - some interesting thoughts, but you're wrong about the Jute monstrous infantry size...
That looks like the deal of the day....now, which 3 to go with?
Well, I've gone and done it. The werewolves were hard to resist, but I managed. The armored undead though? That was the final straw. My resistance is broken. Let's see if I can at least keep things reasonable. I can always add on during the pledge manager, right?

I've been bad and added a figure or two every month.
You'll crack and get werewolves. Don't worry.
I think our dad needs a bog monster though! Maybe I do too...
Can I start a rumor about the Jutes having Undead Skeleton Liazrdmen?
Then can you imagine the fight between the Highlord and Barzam if Undead Skeleton Lizardmen where to appear here?
It would be the biggest civil war/brother on brother battle the galaxy has ever seen or will ever see!
It would make the Horus Heresy seem like a simple misunderstanding!
The Morranach is a must-buy, especially as it will be sculpted by Allan C.
The Jutes look cool, but I'd like to know who the sculptor is before investing in them.
Also, I'm still waiting for my existing miniatures to be shipped from the previous kickstarter, I'd feel a bit uncomfortable investing in this one before they arrive.
As a side note, the Blind Exposed-Breast Woman are, IMO, the weakest sculpts in the Mierce range; it will be interesting to see if Stephane Simon can do a good job with them.
Haha, what a surprise, on the same day I get my copy of the Darklands Quickstarter rules
Ophios looks so much better with his helmed head than he does normally. So much more improved.
I like the concept art, but as above I need to know who is sculpting what first. Unfortunately, as these are also grouped into starter factions, I can't buy separately what is my most desired unit (the undead Barrow Whitgar Unit). I might need to wait until they are sold separately to pick them up. Ignore, you can pick them up as units, it's just an add-on, d'oh.
The Kythones faction is looking incredibly enticing though, now Ophios is less Schwarzenegger looking, and would fit in nicely with my Rackham Ophidians.
Edit: And seeing that you can buy add-on units... so tempting...
The Jutes look cool, but I'd like to know who the sculptor is before investing in them.
Aragorn Marks is doing most the sculpts revealed apart from the Jute Warlord who is being done by Stephane Simon
Ah, thanks for the info. I think I might have to wait 'til I see the sculpts then, some of Aragorn Marks' stuff for Rackham were awesome, some others; not so much.
The melusine, with Stephane Simon as a sculptor, will be awesome. While James van Schaik is a good enough sculptor, his style just don't do it for me when it comes to Darklands. So this is only good news in my book.
What are his 'bad sculpts' - I'm genuinely curious, but also know that clearly these things are subjective and relative!
I was never a fan of his Celt stuff, but yeah, a lot of it is subjective. Except for Drac Mac Syro (the barbarian dude), who is, objectively, a bad sculpt.
Which is strange, as Razheem The Insane (also by A.M) is one of my absolute favourites.
grefven wrote: The melusine, with Stephane Simon as a sculptor, will be awesome. While James van Schaik is a good enough sculptor, his style just don't do it for me when it comes to Darklands. So this is only good news in my book.
Remember these are conversions of the existing models, swaping out the standard and muciacal instrument, so you're probably just looking at new arms/hands rather than whole new minis

He's just doing alternate arms for them, isn't he? So you keep the by and large weak sculpts. When I saw the art I was hoping they'd be new models - the concept isn't my cup of tea so I probably wouldn't buy them, but they're a definite weak spot in the range.
Good catch Orlando - makes them a safe no-buy/no-interest for me.
Though admittedly I'm not a fan of the entire Ysian range, for the most part.
Undead_Love-Machine - Razheem is one of my all time favorite Dirz miniatures too! I didn't know he did that one - that's a big plus in my book right there!
I wonder if we can double up on a kindred choice if we go for 3.
It might be cheaper in the long run if Barzam and I split a trio order, but I think we both want a set of Jutes.
I also caught that comment about armored skeletal lizardmen, and would be more than happy to field them. He's not the only one with an undead horde after all.
At the very least I've got a lock on a local Darklands player now. The big challenge will be transporting the danged things!
Barzam wrote:Well, I've gone and done it. The werewolves were hard to resist, but I managed. The armored undead though? That was the final straw. My resistance is broken. Let's see if I can at least keep things reasonable. I can always add on during the pledge manager, right?

If this happened, I might finally get my sweet revenge for all the poor undead Tambulaine's snakes have destroyed.
Thera looks pretty cool, but I think Wihtwald may wind up being my choice in the end. Unless proper zombies show up at some point.
My problem if I always want to theme it. So Jute, Albainn and Erainn against Byzantii. But then the Formor attack the Erainn and the Albainn, the Byzantii no doubt clash with the Atlantes and at that point may as well fook it all and get Khthones. And my Ysian infantry (ugly unwanted sods) and my Angelcynn weep softly, as does my wallet.
As if this wasn't exciting enough I just got notification that packages from MM (the 2 monster bundles I chose) and one of the FE KSers have been dispatched.
Malkaven wrote: is it me or does the KS seem to be off to a slow start?
I think it's doing well with £26K (and day 2 isn't over), considering it's (mainly) introducing 3 new kindreds so a number of backers may well be waiting until there is something for a kindred they are already collecting. And nice as they are 3 kindreds has less to catch the eye than 8 for new backers. We're also lacking the monstrous infantry that was on show at the start of the other projects (except the mounts) as Rob's holding them back for later
Darklands: A World at War was about £12K by the end of day 2
Darklands Monstrous Mounts about £13.5K by the end of day 2
Darklands First Edition (high forced total as you had to get the book) about £44K
Bolognesus wrote: While I love the general idea for that faction, I can't help but feel they're overextending - again. Darklands was just about to - more or less, that is - come to a point where most kindreds were decently fleshed out, and would no longer feel half-finished or incomplete (I'd have liked a savrax unit before a krokod unit too, for example - it'd give more of a sense of completeness IMO) - and on comes another kindred. Not a good idea, IMO.
...That said, if I can find the funds those Jutes might just get expensive for me
Nah that's wrong and unfair. All the kindreds are distinct and coherent. There are some of the old cliches but we love those cliches. Darklands are better than men/orcs/dwarves/elves/elves/elves, and much better than space marines/space marines/8 other types of space marine/more space marines/orcs in space/Aliens. And they've only just got going.
I'll probably get the felljotun too now that I have a Jotun from the monstrous mounts KS. I'm having a hard time envisioning 80mm though, A bit heftier than Brugg death brute? He'll look pint-sized alongside big Jotun would have much preferred him around the size of Qaano, I think felljotun is a bit pricier too.
80mm isn't that tiny. Sure, not as big as the large Jotun, but still towering over any humans you might have. Then again, if you're playing Darklands, who wants humans anyways?
Just how big is Qaano? I've asked and asked, and would love to see him with the rest of his Sronax crew.
I'm sure I'll get him at some point or another, but I'd really like to see him with his buddies.
Around the middle there, 80mm w/o head (Don't think that would add much height), maybe 90mm altogether with horn? Obviously a lot taller with his raised axe and I think more chunky than Felljotunn going by the art (dunno though), comparable to the hill troll imo, and about waist height on Jotun.
EDIT actually 75mm w/o head, so I guess Felljotun will be big, but still small next to Jotun.
Thanks and you're welcome. Minis are free KS1 ogre, death brute, minotaur champ, lizardman champ, random troll (maybe the champ), Qaano, Hill troll, norse bird monster, norse maw monster, Jotun.
I much prefer the axe on the Ysian brute to the two swords. They looked like they would snap if they hit anything. Wonder if I can buy the axe separately, as I still have the brute unassembled from the first KS.
Glad to see they agreed to let us mix and match the starters. Wonder if the existing faction starters will get an added commander after the 50K goal is met.
Anyone know if the centurions are supposed to get a banner/musician? Seems odd they have an 8 man unit when everyone else has a 10 man.
Also my beasts from the monstrous mounts are in packing! 6 bigguns coming my way soon!!
I too have that brute unbuilt, and never really cared for his swords. Or his metal diaper thing.
Are the shoulder pads or any other parts new as well? I thought the head looked a bit different, but that could just be me.
EDIT- And I finally finished trying to piece Mag Ap Mag together after the Dragonquest Monster Encyclopedia fell on him.
Forgive my poor lighting/ phone pics. At least the guy is back in one piece, despite some ugly cracks and seams that I don't want to have to fill all over again. Just need to finish his horns and spray him, AND KEEP HIM SOMEPLACE SAFE.

Here's the Jute one
The ghostly figures at the bottom are a nice touch

It isn't far from the real thing....
The Ysians are from Cornwall/the South West Peninsula and so's this pic!
The books are going to be very pretty if those samples are anything to go by. Is the art book going to be coffee table format? I don't have it currently in my KS queue and thinking I should.
That Formoraic architecture is a bit more mundane than I would have suspected.
I like the strong element of the ocean just enveloping it at any moment though.
As I'm working on Belech and seeing his strong ties to the ocean, it makes me want to see a bit more of what the Fomorians have got lurking under the waves.
There's probably going to be a lot of color overlap between my Fomorians, my Deepwars/ ShadowSea Dark Mariners, and Wrath of Kings' Hadross units.
Heh, I just had a quick Google, I do like that one can do that with Darklands.
So, Ys, the city, appears to be based off the coast of modern France and a hybrid of the Sodom and Gomorra and Atlantean stories, at least superficially?
That's pretty cool actually. I eagerly await the Oggy (a large, pasty based monster) and Creamteà monstrous infantry! ;-)
So, as a Devonian, which faction should I be collecting, as the lines on the map aren't too definite in that area?
RiTides wrote: When will the rulebook come out? The art is great and that will really help bring the world together.
The latest info says "February 2015"...
Now, before we get onto the next project, a word on the Darklands: First Edition hardback rulebook.
We've decided to put back the printing of the rulebook to February 2015.
There's a number of good reasons for doing this, but the main reason is simply so that we can playtest more and also include extra stuff - and so increase the value of what you're getting!
This extra stuff will include whatever we need for the miniatures produced by Darklands: First Edition II and Darklands: New Kindreds (such as muster summaries, or perhaps new rules to cover the abilities of new creatures where required), more background material, more colour artwork... whatever we can fit in really.
Please note, the printing delay will NOT affect the delivery of:
miniatures slated for delivery in Wave 1
miniatures tied to the book itself (such as Uhtred or Finnan)
However, please note that the rules won't be ready for August as a PDF download. We are now looking at the end of November for this, in time for Christmas... which means when you lot are opening your presents, yours truly will be working on putting the book together!
We'll also ship the rulebook to you when it's available without tying it to a Wave - it's only fair to do so!
Now, we're aware a lot of you guys and gals out there were very keen to get your hands on the book when - let's face it - we said we'd deliver it; but we hope you understand that we simply want to make that book better for you.
Same for the artbook, but I don't think we've got an actual date in 2015 for it yet:
Similarly, we're going to delay the printing of the Darklands Concept Art book to next year.
The main reason for this is very simple - we want to add as much art as we can to it, so we're going to include all the art seen in Darklands: First Edition II and Darklands: New Kindreds. Again, we understand that you guys would want the book in June; but we just want to give you more for the same amount of money!

Yeah model wise, I'd say Mierce are the best in the business. I hope they get a change to prove themselves against the big boys. Are there any plans for plastics?

So that's one of the primary things I had to explain to folks when I demoed darklands at gencon. The rules are actually really streamlined and easy to play. The rules, however, are written very comprehensively and give examples and explanations for every situation. That makes them longer. All of your resolutions are performed similarly (except invocation which is a bit diff). My recommendation is to simply print out all the resolution charts and go from there.
Thanks for your comments everyone (especially you cincy!! )
Rules presentation will be much better in the full rules, with examples in graphical form everywhere; the QS rules are comprehensive... and I may have got carried away with them... ahem... but the rules system works, and works well.
The game itself flows brilliantly, in my not so humble opinion... but why take my word for it? Try it for yourself!
primalexile wrote: Heck a lot of them left 40k and went to Warmahordes for more streamlined rules.
An interesting comment... Warmachine, streamlined? I have to say I'm not sure about that one.
I actually quite like Hormachine, it's very different; but one thing that stuck in my craw is the whole "You sit there for half an hour while I do this and possibly destroy your army". Hardly enjoying for the other player and especially for newbies.
Darklands is very different to that, and deliberately so. Both players are involved all the time and it's great fun. You're always in with a chance!

I felt the same about Malifaux, which IMO takes a similar approach to rules writing, but I found once I actually tried to play it the way it's laid out made sense.

I really agree with that comment about Warmahordes (Hormachine I like it). I have found myself getting a bit bitter at waiting so long for my opponent to do things only to lose the game or have the game end shortly after. A lot of hurry up and wait, I much prefer a you go I go game. My only issue with Darklands is that it has too many awesome models!!! I love the Undead concept of the Jutes. Awesome skeletal troops are almost non existent, I look forward to seeing them in person.
Once I manage to drag someone into some test games I will be able to get a better grasp on the rules.
If I haven't said it before. THANK YOU to all of you who keep us updated on the pics of new stuff that Rob and co drop throughout the campaign. It saves me having to dig for 'minutes' through a bunch of comments on Kickstarter. If I'm away from my computer for a few hours, or overnight, I just catch up here on those things I missed.
Mammox! Looks like he'll be a big fella - will probably need a 120mm base. Hints were also dropped about how the Mammox could also be ridden in to battle...
Automatically Appended Next Post: And more - this time from the lands of the Khthones, once slaves of the Atalantes:
While I really like that they have done the Ogre Centaur concept art, I wish it didn't look so GW-esque in nature. Will still be a fantastic model though I am sure!
I will be putting up the Monstrous Infantry Commanders, and also unveil the monstrous infantry rewards...
That ought to get this one kicked into high gear!

£60,000 - New Kindred Monstrous Commanders

Now that we've bagged Stígr the Felljötunn, having passed £35,000, it's time to unveil more of the monstrous things we have in store for you - and this time, the first peek of the new kindred monstrous infantry...
At £60,000, the Monstrous Infantry Commanders of the forthcoming Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts for the new kindreds of the Atalantes, Érainn and Jutes are unlocked!
With unveiling these, we're now going to add rewards to give you guys the option to pledge for (or increase your pledge for) the Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts, too; the monstrous infantry and large monstrous beast that will be in those Starter Hosts are not revealed yet, of course, but we're sure you'll go for them just the same.
Of course, you could just pick up the monstrous commanders on their own, for the price indicated! It's all up to you.
Atlantes and Erainn monstrous commanders look cool. Slightly disappointed as I wanted a Jute man spider but it will turn up soon. Also Mierce, give us something free. I can dream...
I'm so close to backing this one. I like what I've seen of the Jutes so far (not enough to say I NEED them though) and if that Gorgon gets funded then I'm all over that. She's gorgeous (though I'd still prefer to see some Savrar).
I think the Oghureach in particular has potential (though I don't collect Albain), so long as the sculpt works as a whole and doesn't look like similar to the "humanoid super-glued to a four legged beasts body" that every other miniatures manufacturer in existence makes. This one looks nice and chunky as though the waist could actually hold the torso of the creature.
I remember a while back seeing a sketch of what a bird-man would have to be like to be a physical reality. The bones for his wings had to protrude about two feet if front of his chest to enable him to fly. I can imagine a centaur's spine being equally as morbid/ghoulish/fascinating to look upon. Can you imagine the compression at the point where the base of his torso meets the forelegs?
Richard III's spine would look straight by comparison.
His own own personal juicing system? Push down on his head, with the appropriate fruits and veggies inside Heldred's skull, and you'll have fresh juice in no time to keep your Jutes looking lean and mean for the battlefield.
Proper nutrition is oft neglected on the battlefield.
I have to say that the Erainn and Jute aesthetics are quite cool, my favorite to date (along with Fomoraic). If the cost wasn't so high I'd be extremely tempted! As it is, I will be keeping an eye on it and perhaps get the rulebook when it's released to see how the rules look, and if other folks may get into it locally.
But I can't justify the expense of actually collecting a faction (rather than just picking and choosing sweet models for other uses) unless it actually corresponds to a game that folks near me are playing.
Still very impressive stuff though, love the concept art in this new campaign!

You can see how the rules look right now via the 'Quickstart Rules' - in either actual printed book form or download them for free!

Ah I should have clarified- I meant, when the rulebook is released, I think there's a better chance others may be interested in considering the game (not just checking them out myself).
Sorry, but elephant guy looks goofy as hell to me. I would find it very amusing though if either Mierce makes or someone kitbashes one of those guys riding the mammoth.
This is the first update after the launch of Darklands: New Kindreds (which now stands at £37,500 or thereabouts after just four days - wow!) but that doesn't mean all our attention is focused on that project, oh no.
After all, where would you all be without your Darklands: First Edition update!? In the doldrums, that's what!
Anyway, this week we have for you backer types:
news of our current Kickstarter project, Darklands: New Kindreds
sculpt work in progress updates from Stéphane Camosseto, Yannick Hennebo, Juan Navarro Pérez;
images of miniatures painted by Martin Grandbarbe and Sébastien Picque;
more news of Wave 2 fulfilment;
a list of what miniatures will should be sent in Wave 3;
updated lists of sculptors and sculpts;
downloadable versions of the current QuickStarter Rules, Muster Rules and Kindred Musters;
anything else you can expect from us over the next few months.
Let's go!
We have some cracking mounted miniatures for you this week! Stéphane Camosseto's about finished Eadric on Horse, and there's more work on Urien on Horse from Juan Navarro Pérez, and the lovely Yannick Hennebo has virtually completed Mananaan on Horse too. How marvellous is that!
Eadric on Horse
The fantastic Stéphane Camosseto has almost completed work on Eadric on Horse, and he looks utterly splendiferous!
This does mean that Eadric on Horse should make it into Wave 3, of course!
Urien on Horse
Juan Navarro Pérez is cracking on with Urien on Horse, with the horse getting there and Urien begun.
We do think that Urien on Horse will make it into Wave 3, although there's a way to go yet.
Mananaan on Horse
Yannick Hennebo has worked wonders with Mananaan on Horse, we think! What a stunning miniature he has produced!
Even though there's cuts and so forth to sort, Mananaan on Horse should make it into Wave 3.
Painty goodness!
Martin Grandbarbe reminded us last week that we hadn't shown two of his paintjobs - Urien on Foot and Birna - so we'd better show those, and we also have the beautiful Leofwen on Foot and the ugly awesomeness of Zethag from Martin.
Sébastien Picque has been beavering away, too, and we have Thelliatiss and Broga to show from his paintbrush!
Leofwen The lovely Leofwen gets a paintjob, courtesy of Martin Grandbarbe...
We don't know who's been slapping her cheeks, though.
Broga
The mighty Broga, a Werofor or Boar-Man Thegn, looks like he wouldn't take any messing... especially now Sébastien Picque's painted him!
He loves a scrap, as you can tell!
Urien on Foot
Urien on Foot. Painted by Martin Grandbarbe. Great!
We do particularly like Martin's work on Urien's shield!
Thelliatiss
Sébastien Picque has worked his wondrous magic on Thelliatiss, the Gorgórix for the Khthones!
There's some lovely patterning right there, on her snake skin!
Birna
Another lovely lass for you all, Birna's paintjob really emphasises how beautiful the original sculpt actually is.
Thank you Martin Grandbarbe!
Zethag
From the beautiful to the...erm. Martin Grandbarbe is really pulling out all the stops and his latest work for us, Zethag of Carn Dhu, is a fantastic paintjob that really emphasises how disgusting she is.
Nom nom nom...
Oh, and a little sneak peak:
Automatically Appended Next Post: And KS2.5 update including Aragorn Marks first sculpt since leaving GW
More New Sculpts to Show!
Once again it is Friday, Frige's day, and we have more of the usual for you all once more. Additionally, Darklands: New Kindreds has launched and is progressing brilliantly!
This week we have:
news of our current Kickstarter project, Darklands: New Kindreds
sculpt work in progress updates from Olivier Bouchet, Thomas David, Christian Hardy, Aragorn Marks and Stéphane NGuyen van Gioi;
an updated list of sculptors and sculpts for this project;
downloadable versions of the current QuickStarter Rules, Muster Rules and Kindred Musters;
anything else you can expect from us over the next few months.
Let's begin!
This week we have images of the completed final Oghur from Olivier Bouchet; the completed Sweordsman Timoth from Thomas David; the beginnings of the Frēawulf Unit from Christian Hardy; the first peek of Akkaz, reassigned to Aragorn Marks; and the finished Tykho by Stéphane NGuyen van Gioi...
Drudd
From the artwork by Thomas Mahon, Olivier Bouchet has now completed the Oghu Guardians, for the lovely Drudd is now finished!
The last remaining sculpt of the Oghu Guardians, Drudd, is here...
This definitely means the Oghu Guardians will make it into Wave 4, of course!
Sweordsman Timoth
Completely out of the blue, Thomas David has completed the Timoth alternate, Sweordsman Timoth!
He'll definitely be a Wave 4 shipment!
Rēoc's Pack
Christian Hardy has been getting on with his next assignment for us, Rēoc's Pack - a Frēawulf or Great Wulf Unit !
Christian's decided to start with the Great Frēawulf, Rēoc - and why not?
Whilst there's still a few bits and pieces to sort out, in particular the front paws, it shouldn't be too long before Rēoc is complete. They may make it into Wave 4 - we'll see...
Tykho
Stéphane NGuyen has about finished the Byzantii scorpion, and Tykho is looking great. He's certainly looking mean and nasty!
We do think that Tykho will be a Wave 4 shipment, now!
Akkaz
As soon as we found out that Aragorn Marks had stopped working for Games Workshop, we got in touch, and he immediately asked if we had anything for him. So we gave him Akkaz. In the space of three days, here's what he's done...!
Amazingly, we reckon Akkaz will be finished next week. Welcome back, Aragorn!
Just noticed this hasn't been posted. These are close to KS1 prices! The savings on the Gorgonars are insane: It's £80 for a Unit of Gorgonar, Magma Svrill and Alternate Ophios. Given that Ophios is £40, Svrill is £25 that leaves only £15 for the unit!
The others are pretty nice as well. You're looking at £15 for a commander and £52 for the infantry unit. With 2 commanders and the infantry, that's a total of £82. The lesser monstrous beast pretty much comes free!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and not forgetting this
Damn, all those other kindreds look tasty. I'm a big fan of the Brythonaid infantry. I hope we get to see this more often, as the buying two of these starters (for those lucky kindreds that have two starters anyway)gives you an awesome range of models for a faction. No idea if it plays well, but it looks good.
I'm growing very fond of the Brythonaid infantry. Got to be honest, I bitched all last kickstarter about hard to understand pledges, lack of starters and no infantry. I'm not saying Mierce listened to me directly in any way, but certainly this is ideal for me. Now to put my money where my mouth was. :-P
Fenriswulf wrote: Oh dear lord the Kthones group is going to be hard to ignore. That's one hell of a price!
Different variants of Ophios and Svrill (IMO better Ophios, and the concept for Svrill looks comparably good) and an extra arm for the banner (different tip to the tail of the other one is pretty marginal), and all it's missing to be a KS1 level deal is Ssibyros and Urbad (and I really wasn't impressed with how Ssibyros came out, so I'm not missing him).
With a 3 x infantry deal, getting a bit cheaper and 1/3 of Sathach on horse, it's probably as much value as the KS1 deal.
Bolognesus wrote: Heh. I got the Gabrax 'starter' on the previous KS - I'm rather regretting that, compared to this offering, as well
Yeah, I think these are the best deals since the original kickstarter and the quad beast from the mounts (which was actually better than many of the original KS deals). You get an extra commander over the First Edition encounter host for the same price.
Waiting to see what the monstrous starters are. Commander + 5 man, + beast still?.
So I'm really tempted this time round to pick up some minis but don't know where to start. There doesn't seem to be a place to view all of the available (including funded but not in production yet) miniatures.
This makes it really hard knowing what else has been funded and will be released in the future.
So I picked one of the factions I'm interested in the Ysians and made a little pic to see whats available and this is what I ended up with, without the exclusive versions and the some of the ones which are already in production on the Mierce site.
Click for a larger pic.
Have I missed anything? I know there was another mount but it wasn't funded. Would be nice if we had something like this for each faction.
There are obviously all your big monstrous creatures: the manticore, the chimera, Conjunct XII.
There is a mount or two on the Monstrous Mounts KS.
They also have the monstrous infantry in the Brutes.
Were I starting Ysians I'd pick the starter that includes the Ax Drunes. It's a really good starter that looks like it sits pretty close to 500 points (a great starting place).
If you're planning on getting the three pack, the two Ysian starters actually compliment each other really, really well. You could throw in Zethag and the Flesh Scavengers, because they work really well with regular infantry, and you'd have a really fantastic 1000-1500 points depending on how you load them out.
You're missing a lot of the big huge monsters, like the manticore, chimera, and the stitched together monstrosity. And Torku adn Druk or whatever the meaty hulk is called.
highlord tamburlaine wrote: You're missing a lot of the big huge monsters, like the manticore, chimera, and the stitched together monstrosity. And Torku adn Druk or whatever the meaty hulk is called.
You'll also like to hear about some of the things planned for the Ysians in future. Mounted drune warriors, small vivicocts (brute size) and sky ships. Probably won't see these in this kickstarter unless the total gets high enough
zedmeister wrote: You'll also like to hear about some of the things planned for the Ysians in future. Mounted drune warriors, small vivicocts (brute size) and sky ships. Probably won't see these in this kickstarter unless the total gets high enough
It was the option you mentioned cincy with the Axe Drunes and Akkaz that I was interested in but would probably add Annik if she's any good. I will be skipping the Melusine though as they wouldn't go down very well in the Giraffe household
I'm aware of the big monsters as they are already available, if they fall under kickstarter prices I might have to find more cash.
The other faction as you cant really have one that I was looking at was the Byzantii really impressed by the female roman soldier renders that we've seen so far, have any of the digital minis been cast yet?
I'll probably add more as I have a bad case of wanting most forces for each game I like.
Oh yeah and Sathach on horse as well...actually that brings another question up. I can only afford one starter before the kickstarter ends, can you add others later or even go in for the three starter deal after the KS ends?

The regular Annik model is very, very good. I'm a huge fan of her. She's a little more slight than I expected, but she's really well done.

Oh yes. Absolutely. I think there are more than a few of us that make orders on a whim if its still open. They also give us a warning when models are going to disappear from the KS section of the website.

Vivicocts?
Aye, don't have much info on them. Conjunct XIII (a vivicot) is the 13th creation. Vivcotists are supposed to specialise in creation of vivicots of all shapes and sizes. It was hinted that vivcots may make an appearance at monstrous infantry size...

.
Well gak! I must have missed that. That sounds great.
I actually didn't think I'd like Conjuct XIII, but he's a great model.
I think they're going to need an all the new commander pledge level (or bundle deal), because I'd be very hard pressed to pick just one or two. All those new commanders are quite cool.
I'm tempted by some of the Monstrous sets, but I think my heart is sent on all the basic Infantry. Might have to pay it up until the project ships though :-P
That should crack down on those wishy washy "counts as" types. Commit to alternate history dark ages!
Or just give the horse a bionic eye and you're covered.
I aint going anywhere near that spider, cant stand them and that's the last thing I'm going to see before I go to sleep....
Big Croc is very cool like the dude in his mouth but would prefer him on a rock to the poor horse though.
I was thinking earlier about the potential Dark Lands has when you consider what a small part of the world they've covered so far. There's so much potential they could be bringing out miniatures for many years to come. Looking forward to some nice Vampire minis and Egyptian based ones down the line.
plastictrees wrote: That should crack down on those wishy washy "counts as" types. Commit to alternate history dark ages!

Lol
I'm not wishy-washy, I do counts-as with everything!
but as a set biggest tree, big tree and tree unit all look too similar (and 2 arm/2 leg/head-torso anthropomorphic). I
I'd have liked to see either something completely different for at least one or a variation in limb number/position to show they aren't just 'man in a rubber suit'
but hey, since I like the first 8 kindreds and the Jutes I suppose there has to be one sort of miss amongst the set
Any word on who will be sculpting the new monstrous kindreds? I've watched Darklands since the very first KS and that monstrous Atlantes has finally finalized my pledge.
Nope, you can buy them separately. They're listed on the various stretch goals images as £15 each or you can buy a set of 8 if you wanted.
I'm now a lot more interested in this KS as I've not fancied any of the bundles as I have already brought all of the multi man units I want. Probably going to leave it till the end as I need to see what FW costs me at Warhammerfest first.
Atlantes - Hector Moran, infantry; Roberto "speedy" Chaudon the bull
Eirann - Valentin Zak, infantry; Allan "can I haz your babies" Carassco the Bog Creature
Jutes - melon-fething Aragorn Marks
but as a set biggest tree, big tree and tree unit all look too similar (and 2 arm/2 leg/head-torso anthropomorphic). I
I'd have liked to see either something completely different for at least one or a variation in limb number/position to show they aren't just 'man in a rubber suit'
Ah, that explains it- I wasn't sure what was nagging at me about them, but that's just it.
I do like them individually, but you're right, as a group I'd like to see more variety.
One could have gone the Ents route and modelled them after different species of tree (although that might have been hard to do and not look like you were ripping that off.)
I agree though, the Eirainn were the faction I was most interested in on paper before the launch, and are now the least. Still like the concept though (and would make a nice second faction to my Fomoraic) so hopefully as the range expands there'll be more that gets my nerd bone stimulated.
Yeah, Erainn monstrous infantry feel a little too similar. Its the lack of weapons and anything to break the profile up I think. Oacying has rocks with glowing runes.
Someone mentioned the ents as different species of tree, which might be neat. The new waldgeists also work as a distinct tree unit, but feel a bit more varied.
I'm sure they'll be well done, just different tastes and all.
Oof, bit of a crawl to get them. I'm hoping all monstrous infantry are unlocked at 110k!
Looks like all monstrous infantry hosts will be unlocked at 110K. So, expect stretch goals of monstrous infant units and new commanders and monsters to fill in the funding until then.
drazz wrote: Looks like all monstrous infantry hosts will be unlocked at 110K. So, expect stretch goals of monstrous infant units and new commanders and monsters to fill in the funding until then.
Sounds like a good plan to me!
I love all of the stuff here - and I really love to have 'regular' infantry marching alongside Monstrous Infantry - but I know a lot of people are here for the Big Gribblies, so hopefully this gets things moving upwards a bit quicker...
I'm assuming this guy is a Demi-legionare for the Byzanntii/Inferni right?
Is he a hero, or part of another unit?
Hoping for some female Infernii at some point. Or perhaps smaller, imp-like ones, that might be cool. I feel like the Byzantii should have a HUGE lion with Roman-esque armor as well.
£57,500 - Other Kindred Alternate Monstrous Commanders

It's going to be a day of updates, today - we've plenty!
First up there's the Other Kindred alternate Monstrous Commanders, which will of course be a part of the Other Kindred Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts; this here stretch goal unlocks them and, of course, ensures you can purchase them individually should you wish to pick and choose.
These guys are strictly project exclusive; they will never, ever be released to the general public, although we do reserve the right to produce them for sale at shows and events.
No Exchanges!
Please note, we will not exchange the alternate monstrous commander within a starter host for any other miniature, so please don't ask! They are tied to their host.
The reason for doing this this is simple - logistically it's a nightmare to exchange miniatures and will lead to errors when we get to packing your orders. Of course, we are very sure that other backers will help out with exchanges, and our forums are the perfect place to do so!
Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts
There will be Starter Hosts that include these guys and the alternate Monstrous Infantry warriors... and they will be shown shortly!

Other Kindreds Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts

With some Monstrous Infantry stretch goals appearing and the rewards being taken up, it's about time we gave you the Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts for the Other Kindreds, isn't it?
So here they are...
There's a few things we'll need to explain.
Firstly, each monstrous infantry unit includes five complete warriors, but you also have the option of turning the banner bearer or herald (if the unit has either) into normal warriors, i.e., without a banner or an instrument. These components result in, of course, those alternate monstrous infantry warriors in the £55,000 stretch goal - which means you have greater choice in how you wish to field your monstrous infantry unit.
Secondly, you'll note that there are some other alternates on there - Wolf Skull Cynemon, the Armoured Brutes and Hammer-Druc, for example - and these will be stretch goals in themselves further down the line.
Thirdly, note that these eight monstrous infantry starter hosts may well be joined by more in the future... who knows? As always, it all depends on how far we get...!

It's Stretch Goal Day, it seems, so it would be remiss of us not to give you the next New Kindred Monstrous Infantry Starter Host...
The Beasts of Síleann (SHEE-lan) Fen are ancient, implacable beings beholden to Danu, the Earth Goddess, born of the long-forgotten forests of Eriu and filled with hatred for those that destroy and pillage the earth.
Increase your pledge by £80 to get a hold of them; the Beasts of Síleann Fen will ship in June 2015 along with the first "wave" of Darklands: New Kindreds pledges.
Érainn Monstrous Infantry Starter Host
The Beasts of Síleann Fen are, of course, a part of the Érainn Monstrous Infantry Starter Host, which we'll post later on today!

Another Stretch Goal for the New Kindreds, and this time for the Jutes...
Drēaguth (DREE-a-guth) are "again-walkers" - age-old beings filled with hate who, even in undeath, strive to destroy the living; for life itself is the key to their power, the only way they can continue their malign existence. They would even fall upon their masters, to reach that end, and it is only the black sorcery of the Jutes that binds the Drēaguth and bends them to their will.
Drēaguth Bases
Now, a word on their bases. Fairly obviously, they are "floating", but what we'll do is ensure that they have a nice flat resin "base" - around 20mm in diameter - attached to the bottom of their shrouds. That way, it should be easy enough to stick them to a base!
Increase your pledge by £80 to get a hold of them; The Malign of Alum Tomb will ship in June 2015 along with the first "wave" of Darklands: New Kindreds pledges.
Jute Monstrous Infantry Starter Host
The Malign of Alum Tomb are, of course, a part of the Jute Monstrous Infantry Starter Host, which we'll post shortly!

The last (for now) stretch goal for the new kindreds, here's what you can fund at £100,000...
Increase your pledge by £40 to purchase one of these big guys for your Darklands host; they will ship in June 2015 along with the first "wave" of Darklands: New Kindreds pledges.
Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts
These greater beasts are, of course, a part of the Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts, which we'll post soon...!
I am guessing that with a pledge you can add to it later on to pick up stuff you might have missed? I want the Ysian Brute deal, but don't have the cash right now for anything else. Could I add one of the unique commander dudes at a later date using the pledge manager?
Awesome. I want the Wight commander, and perhaps new Bagseg. For the moment though, Hammer Brugg and crew are too nice to pass up, and are much better imaginings of the Brutes than the originals imho.
Now that we've shown both Infantry Starter Hosts and Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts, it's time to update you all on the various rewards, as a few things have changed.
Note that, unfortunately, once they've been backed we can't change the text on the rewards; but if in doubt, the text on an update or on the front page is correct.
£10 - I JUST WANT SOME COOL MINIATURES
As you were with this one - it's the same as it ever was. Back £10, and increase your pledge to grab hold of individual miniatures or other bits and pieces!
£80 - INFANTRY STARTER
The "INFANTRY STARTER" reward simply gives you the choice of one Infantry Starter Host from the fourteen on offer, saving you around 45% off the predicted RRP of the items within.
What's Changed?
You now have a free alternate Commander in every host, thus boosting its value!
£100 - MONSTROUS INFANTRY STARTER - new!
This reward gives you the choice of one Monstrous Infantry Starter Host from the eleven currently on offer. There may well be more Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts soon!
£220 - ANY THREE INFANTRY STARTERS
This reward gives you the choice of any three Infantry Starter Hosts from the fourteen available (including the New Kindred ones), with a fantastic bulk saving over purchasing those hosts individually - well over 50% off the predicted RRP of the items within, in fact!
Regardless, you also get the wonderful Sell-Sword Sáthach on Horse for free (limited to one per backer) with this reward!

£220 - NEW KINDRED INFANTRY STARTERS
This reward is somewhat redundant as we immediately realised backers wanted the choice of the "any three" reward above. We can't remove it though, as it still has backers...
Even so, it's still useful to know that you can get the three New Kindred Infantry Starters with one reward.
£280 - ANY THREE MONSTROUS INFANTRY STARTERS - new!
A totally new reward that gives you the choice of any three Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts from the eleven available (including the New Kindred ones), with a fantastic bulk saving over purchasing those hosts individually - well over 50% off the predicted RRP of the items within, in fact!
You also get the fantastic Sell-Sword Danilo Cruz on Horse for free (limited to one per backer) with this reward!

£700 - ALL THE INFANTRY STARTERS (now named incorrectly)
Unfortunately, thanks to Kickstarter not allowing us to change the reward text, including the title, this reward is slightly misleading; it should really be "ANY ELEVEN INFANTRY STARTERS", as it now gives you the choice of eleven Infantry Starter Hosts from the fourteen available.
Regardless, the saving you get here is massive: well over 60% off the predicted RRP of all of the items within those starter hosts, in fact!
As well as that, you also get the wonderful Sell-Sword Sáthach on Horse for free (limited to one per backer) with this reward!
£880 - ALL THE MONSTROUS INFANTRY STARTERS - new!
Whilst there's only eleven Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts, we do expect more to be unveiled as the project continues, so this reward's title will become misleading at some point... it should really be "ANY ELEVEN MONSTROUS INFANTRY STARTERS", as it just gives you the choice of eleven Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts from those available.
Anyway, again, the saving you get here is massive: well over 60% off the predicted RRP of all of the items within those starter hosts, in fact!
As well as that, you also get the fantastic Sell-Sword Danilo Cruz on Horse for free (limited to one per backer) with this reward!
Also Mierce confirmed in the comments you get the free Sellswords as long as you spend the qualifying amount, not just in the deals.

Yeah, those new Brutes actually look frighteningly brutish, whereas before they just looked like malformed plague victims with bizarre extremities grafted onto them.
Considering I already have nearly the whole unit, they're the ones at the moment I'm leaning closest to getting, just because those new weapons really change up their whole dynamic, and make them a much more unified group (if you can actually say that about Ysians as it stands).
You reckon? I really like the original brutes, I don't own them - thought I'd get them this time around, alas they aren't in the ysian host so they'll have to wait. I'm getting the new ones, but the originals seem just as good to me.
Ah, phew, that's the one I want to flesh out my Fomoraic too, with so many pledge level/stretch goal pics floating around, I can't have been looking in the right place.
Assuming I find adequate stuff to sell in the next few weeks to fund it of course!
They've hit the character/image limit on the home page so you may well find things disappearing as KS glitches (or Rob tries to rewrite and shrink stuff)
the originals should still be in the updates though
they'll be able to take some Khthones units but not all of them
Rob's said the Hydrar were a failed experiment that they were unable to control so they are out. We know that some of the Savrar are still enslaved but everything else is up in the air as far as I know
Dammit, I was just about to say that I thought the Erainn would be my favourite of the new kindreds but so far they've been at the bottom of the heap. Anything else in this vein and I'm screwed. I don't need 8 factions...
