Well nothing done with the trench run, little/no time, and lack of motivation. I got some time today, but had a few ideas to try out.

Pallet jack and pallet
Going to make multiples as I have an idea for a necromunda pallet jack racing game

And large bins for transporting bundles

Also came up with a bundle of barrels/rolls of paper stock

Oh and an electric walk/ride pallet jack

Still work to do on the regular jack. I tried to cut down the handle as the original was taller than the figure, but now its just odd looking, maybe paint will help.

Afraid the trench run will not be completed anywhere near time. I do still have other concepts in mind though to go with these items though. I work the next 8 straight days, had the last 4 off, but family stuff happening including my youngest daughter getting presented an award tonight by the Missouri board of education for getting a 100% on the state test.

All looks good, the pallet-jacks are great.

Sorry to hear about the trench run dio got put on hold - would still love to see it finished some time! - but family reasons come first. And congrats to the young one for her achievement

Pallet and jack look pretty cool Pallet racing....ahh, that takes me back

Here's hoping you get a sudden burst of motivation for the trench......just a few more details and then some grey spray...honest Look forward to whatever else you bring out though.

And congratulations to your daughter.

I don't know if this helps, but I made this a few years ago for the Wizards of the Coast SW Game:

I made a "tile" cast it hundreds of times and glued them down !

Intereting concept there with the tile repeated but in different posing.

Sorry for long delay, but that's how things are going. No time for fun since the birthday party marathon, but I've been getting supplies like crazy. One of the ladies at work is helping gather stuff, I remind her of her son when he was creative and she was younger .

Vik loves cardboard, so this should make him happy. The tubes are the cores from rolls of stickers we use at the hospital to label medicines. Also tubes from the paper towel dispensers and the big container of Gatorade that I've gone through. Should make for some interesting terrain, even if just more water towers .

Well off to the grandparents to help out some more again before going into work .

cool assortment of carboard tubes....the smaller ones I have too...I think... very sturdy stuff!!!

Well quick run to grandparents, they had places to go so no long time "helping" today.

I was picking up some heavy card stock that poppy had in storage for my wife. Got three bundles/reams of paper, 70,80 and 100 pound weight, I'm keeping a bit as a shipping tax . Got home and had an idea, been a while since I got any ideas, but the short larger diameter tube fits the black rollers I got last week.

Looks like a nice fit for the base of a water tower. The lip of the black plastic roller sticks out just the tiniest bit, which the paper almost completely covers .

The smallest tube has an inside diameter that perfectly fits the base of a 25mm round base, which means that razorback turrets and predator turrets fit it perfectly.

these black thingies look very good....some quaint thrusters for a 28 mm scale BFG ships?...

I have worked with both versions of these steeple jacks... we call them "ants" here in Germany by the way... and I can testify they totally look the part! the containers and the pallete too look very convincing!

I hope for us all that we get some more time to be here at dakka more regularly and be more productive again.... man it really sucks to have the creativity seeps from one...

Well, some catching up to do. Been busy, but finally had yesterday off from my main job and a really short day at the church as the teens took it upon themselves to get everything prepped for the weekend.

@LDD, racing truck game is still in the works, but it sounds fun in my head.
@Littletower, rejoice, for the trench is back in business
@monkeytroll, new trench, new attitude towards it, but no longer within the competitions guidelines I'm afraid
@LDD, definitely good parenting, we stole her from some of the best
@Dr. H, thanks
@Red harvest, thanks as well
@Shaso, they are the envy of millions.....of servo skulls
@dsteingass, thanks boss , just really jumped out at me and was motivated....for once....and had time.
@the buzz, thanks for stopping in, I saw your build back then, but wasn't into the game at the time it really was part of the inspiration for my build .
@grimdork, never expect anything normal around here
@ angel of vengeance, new target acquired, hopefully a better one at that.
@vik, why can't we all just win the lottery? Or Jesus returns and we find out he loves gaming as much as us. I mean God did create us all, and we are fighting these wars right

Okay, so my oldest daughters grades just came back. Where my littlest daughter got the award for one section of the test my oldest girl aced all three sections of the test so we took her out to dinner last night. Her grades were 80-90 points into the highest grade level, the test scores are like credit scores they go up into the 900s. My son is all sad because he just did average on all three, so he'll get his special meal because his behavior this year has been soooooooo improved over last year.

Well now the update on the trench, the old one is being put away for possible future use.
(Copied from the competition thread)
The trench is still happening, but it won't fit the competition as I'm now using Deadzone tiles to complete it. Here's a sample of what I'm talking about.

The end of the trench. I'm thinking the little circle in the center on the end wall can be the hole, looks like the size of a womprat

And my solution to flying over the trench. That way models down in the trench cannot be targeted by models outside the trench since they will have problems of their own, such as turrets and walls to look out for.

This is about 7"x9" I plan on making the sections 12" long and modular. It all depends on getting more of the sprues though. Which should be rectified shortly .

Edit: stopped by Miniaturemarket.com on the way back from working at church today......

This will extend the trench a little .....more to come

Dam that is a shame I was looking forward to seeing what you came up with for the trench, however the tiles do work nicely and yes about Womprat size

I gather you have not found a new route home yet then

O yes as to your reply I can't get this image out of head now

Cannot unsee strange man(?!)... Ack!

Anyway, those deadzone tiles look perfect for all sorts of things. I'll need to look into getting some. Although at the moment, may gaming group is lookiing to play this 5e D&D, so maybe I need dungeon tiles...

Post by: Theophony

@ldd, why would I look for a new way home, I wouldn't get as good of a discount
@redharvest, there's speculation they might try a fantasy version of these, the last KS they did had fantasy furniture in it

Well only had about an hour of free time to mess around today. Lots going on and lots of school work for kids and myself to finish.

But the trench is 3' long now. Might try to take it to 4' by taking apart some othe buildings I've done, but not sure just yet.

And still modular for stacking/storage

And the three secotions just assembled each have one of the cool vents in them in off set patter. I hope to make the turrets to plug into that slot on the board.

Regular table size for games are 3'x3', but I'd eventually like to make this board bigger for epic battle games.

Interesting use of the DZ terrain!

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/09/27 20:43:42

Post by: Viktor von Domm

that looks pretty nifty...and yes, that looks big enough like a womprat...

your kids are very good at school, at least that´s what you tell about your daughters, with boys you always have to take into account that school today is sadly built and managed to be fit for girls... I hear it quite frequently that boys have way more difficulties at schools than girls...many peeps think that sports and other competitive things would make school life for boys better... I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle of the know and the above...

Post by: Theophony

@shaso, the tiles can be used for so much more, and since I've had no desire to finish reading the rulebook that's a good thing.
@vik, new womprat target below, school never held interest for me, probably why I'm stuck finishing college at such a slow pace.

Well a bit of inspiration and and old flashing light later.

Figured a way to put the exhaust fort horizontal and give the trench a little something more. The flashing lights are from an old shelf displayer that I grabbed a few of over 15 years ago. It runs on two AA batteries and has two red bulbs that flash at random intervals. Hopefully it looks like the power plants energy emissions. The lights came from an old displayer for eyeglass repair kits we sold at builders square. I have a few of them still in my bits basement, originally they were for an adeptus arbites ar,y I had purchased back then so the vehicles could have flashing lights.

And here's two of the sections placed end to end.

I think I'll get rid of the end wall piece of the trench and just continue to make modular sections. That will allow for different set ups and might be an advantage I give to the imperial player to allow them to set up where the exhaust port gets placed AFTER both sides deploy their forces.

Theo you really do think outside of the box mate that has to be the best use of tiles I have seen and the light really adds to the atmosphere of the setting good call, what are you going to use for the turrets ?

Very effective use of the tiles. Works well.

Post by: Theophony

@grimdork, I had to find something to use these for, and deadzone just hasn't called out to me yet.
@LDD, I think I'll have to scratch build the turrets, but the radar dishes could be used as a temporary proxy.
@Dr. H, thanks

Woke up and unable to drift back to sleep , so instead of tossing and turning I decided to assemble more bulkheads for the trench. Unfortunately that meant disassembling some other things I had built. While still a great buy, the deadzone terrain leaves a lot to be desired . The fortified tiles are too thick on some parts to actually be used with other tiles, and the layout of the sprues means your getting lots of tiles you may not want/need and reinforcing bits that are on the sprues you wind up with a plethora of and little use for them. I wish there was just a "floor tile sprue" and "walls sprue".

In the mean time I was thinking of one of the fan made scenarios with the trench run where there is a force field protecting the exhaust port. You had to do damage to the force field before you could shoot at the port, and a thought hit me, the support struts that come with one of the deadzone kits could look like field relay posts . So I built a small section to have them be able to be placed in front of the port in the trench. There are five all together, but I think that is more than enough for gameplay.

Perhaps I can make it so you must do a point of damage to drop each section of the field. A critical hit allows the shooter to decide where he's weekend the shield, a regular hit lets the defender choose which section is down. Just wondering if I should allow the attacker to have kamikaze shield strikes or not by ramming his ships into the field to do a critical, of course his ship would be destroyed, but it could be possible.

Also noticed the new Kickstarter for basis has deadzone pads. Too bad they aren't the basic deck piece I want, or I'd order it to complete the top of the deathstar. I might just have to make my own mould and get some dental stone mix.

@shaso, I'm thinking of making it 3 squares wide instead of 2.5 just for that purpose
@graven, I think it would make a nice table for fighting on a Borg home world too.

Well, not much done, overtime at the hospital and getting the church ready for a wedding have taken up a lot of free time. But as I was coming home from church I of course stopped by miniaturemarket , "get a little God, get a little distraction from God ".

I was checking out some things on their website and saw the sedition wars terrain pack was back in stock, I had been interested in it when I picked up the sedition wars boxes on clearance (they still are clearance too ). I didn't realize how much comes in the box for $32.00. Here's a pic of all of it out on the deadzone playmat.

You get six air locks and six double wide doors

And twelve regular doors and four crates

There's also four barricades, two of each of two console designs, two teleport homers and two turrets that swivel, and six dead tokens

A better look at the turrets and two life support/medicos. Also two alien things.

More alien things, and another look at the barricades and small doors, crates.

A little poster tack later and I have a wicked cool turret system

"Sensors say it's all clear on the other side of the door"

I did have time to clip some more mantic accessory SPRUE items clear, and that's more scatter terrain.

Oh and look what I saved from the trash at work. 24"x14"x4" box, empire baseball player for size.

And it had foam in it too

Oh and did I mention.....I'm getting into Infinity

I got this guy for $5 at Miniaturemarket in their physical store. He came with the wrong arms, but I'll contact them for replacements.

Operation:icestorm is on its way here from Thewarstore.com, I was able to order it Thursday and get a copy WITH the limited exclusive model a few weeks after it had all been allocated . Plus Neal's done good by me in the past, I'm not just a miniaturemarket junkie, im addicted to anyone who will supply my gaming crack .

@Theo damn, do you often find $5 Infinity minis at the physical store? If there are more than a couple it could be worth the 2 hour drive..

Also thanks for sharing that sedition wars scenery pack unbox, that actually makes me stop and think about it. I still can't believe they keep dumping the box game on amazon for roughly 30 bucks, it may be restic but it's nice stuff!

If you ever want to try Deadzone I'll have to find some way to bring a set-up out there, it's pretty fun. Though.... I'd not say no to Infinity someday too

@girraffex, my o:I won't be here till probably mid month, there was a miscommunication from thewarstore
@cam, I'm still here, just not commenting as much, a little worn out of the gaming side right now.
@grimdork, I e got a set of Deadzone here, but I'd more than likely be up for infinity, just trying to find time is the pain.

Miniaturemarket always has some hems in the store from damaged shipping boxes(they don't send out damaged stuff) to stuff like the x-wing transports at 1/2 off because of a snapped off piece which is fixed easy with glue. I love stopping in there, I even pick up some L5R cards from the to time that are on clearance cause I love me some samurai artwork.

They have about 5-6 other infinity minis in there for $5.00 and another character one for $10.00(she's missing an arm though, but I could send a message to try and get a replacement arm for her.) I might pick them up and try and trade them for other models as they aren't in the armies I'm Interested in.

@shaso, it's not as good of a deal as you think since it's so close. I have to pay sales tax (around 8%), so the warstore winds up cheaper in bulk(just have to get passed the savings lost from the shipping cost.
@grimdork, I'll swing back by there soon to see what else they have cheap infinity wise, but I think it was 3 copies of a Haqqislam character, and a copy of an Adriana character, and the $10.00 one was penthouse girl(don't remember her real name, but very similar ) on bike, but missing an arm
@Dr.h, my board will be a tribute to Les Nessman from WKRP in Cincinnati , doors, but only tape on the floors for imaginary walls that everyone must respect.
@commander Cain, yes, and they are plastic too , not quite enough of the narrow doors for space hulk, but I think the big ones could go on the tiles there too.
@dsteingass, yes another brilliant thing done by Mcvey studios , all the clear miniature for the kickstarter, and not for general sale afterwards. Plus the items people would buy (the clear ones) the retail stores won't touch because they changed materials between wave one and two which caused shrinkage and poor casts so the cool stuff is so overlooked.

Well I stopped by the other FLGS yesterday on my way to work , I need to be nonstop between my door and destination to save money. They recently got in a case of the rulebook for infinity (2nd edition) and starter boxes for the armies. They had a guy demo the game one day but I could only look for a minute, and he wasn't very interested in trying to hook anyone looking. Seriously there were 3-4 others who stopped at the table for a minute or two to see what was happening and he just ignored them as well. and yes he was there to demo the game, not just teaching a buddy to play. I didn't get why they bothered to get the rules in as the new edition goes preorder next Monday from my understanding, yes I'll be ordering.

Well they also had a sad lonely infinity figure sitting on the shelf, and I couldn't leave him there surrounded by all that gw gak.

He just got assembled and primed this morning.
I keep calling him obi-wan instead of oniwaban , but there's so many figures in the line with names that can clearly have easy alternates. It reminds me of the good old days of gw where they had fun with character names. Like mag urk thrakka (Margaret thacher ) and I just saw a few weeks ago Vulkan He'stan (he's tan) referring to the fact that all the salamanders are dark skinned how did I miss that for years.

Anyway off to church to do more fun cleaning today......might stop by MM on the trip home.

I wish the no-where-near-local gamestores had things in them I would consider buying, but even their bargain bins have come up pretty lame lately.

Sounds pretty lame about that demo, kind of missing the point there eh?

Possibly a better view of oniwaban

And while I was working at church I gathered these tops to our automatic air fresheners that I replaced today, they are air wick x-press aerosols. I got five of them, 4blue, one orange. This is a rushed job so bare with me for a moment.

Im keeping the blue part blue, it's an odd swirl that goes all the way around the lid starting near the top and finishing near the bottom, I quickly brushed some grey onto the rest, it will be solid later and look like concrete hopefully. Why would I do something like this......sci fi lighting of the future , tea lights will fit underneath, but for right now I just used the flashlight on my iPhone.

Will probably only have one as a centerpiece in a park or something. Would be cool if I could rig up a little water fountain to come out of the top of it and run down its sides like those fountains you see shaped like a ball.

I like the park-light-thing, kind of neat. I've been thinking of using those little cheap-o LED faux-candles, or faux-tea lights actually, for a number of things.

Another quick stop by I'm afraid, getting ready for church this morning and had a moment while the kids finish breakfast.

Miniaturemarket.com has the deal of the day

The dust tactics konigsluther walking tank for $18.00 normally $45.00

I grabbed one for future possible conversions, also bumped the order up with a few paints from Vallejo. If your a local pick up from MM then if your order is over $25.00 you get to spin the prize wheel. It's mainly free points, or three times points that you earned on the purchase, or a free movie(they have two racks full of movies for $5 each), or the boobie prize on a miniaturemarket drink koozie . I generally get the 200 free points which is $2 off basically so I try and break my purchases into $25.00 orders and pick them up 1 at a time as you only get one spin a day. (I currently have six orders in for the pre ordered Star Wars x-wing future expansions) I just realized I should be using the paint to fill me up to that magic $25 minimum , I'd been adding $10 items before, and I need to fill out my color pallet...........because reasons

Ran out this morning to pick up groceries.....and my order from miniaturemarket . They had a slew of books for RPGs and stuff on tables $2 each or 3 for$5. Only thing I saw that interested me was Dropzone Commander, so I grabbed that.....and some of their infinity specials. Along with my spin on the prize wheel I got a free DVD (picked I robot) so I got all this for $21.00 including tax

The infinity figures: Tarik Mansuri, Uxia McNeil, andPenthesilea(missing an arm, but for the price the motorcycle is well worth it by itself)

My order was the konigsluther and three paints, picture of the tank shortly.

Rhino for scale size.

How easy does it look to dis-assemble that konigsluther?

The barrels are separate from the arms, the arms are separate from the main body, and the ammo hopper on back is separate from the body as well. The legs are assembled to the body and don't move at all. But it's still imposing for the price.

Well it's pouring rain right now, so I primed those doors and the rest of the sedition wars terrain from the other day. Also Netflix updated the walking dead so I finally get to see the rest of the fourth season , maybe it'll get me sidetracked on some zombies.

Man I'm gonna have to make a MM pilgrimage some time. Seeing that dust tank makes me a bit sad I didn't pull the trigger on one, pretty meaty for under twenty bucks.

Which arm is penny missing? The one hanging down with the sword would be pretty easy to replace third party, I should think.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/10/13 19:47:34

Post by: Theophony

@girraffex, yep I have a plethora of stores around me and I'm usually broke. I'm tearing through some money I got recently, but it's going further than it normally does.
@grimdork, it is indeed the left arm with ccw. I've assembled her without it so far and will just keep my eyes peeled for a suitable replacement.

BOW is having another infinity week with videos of the new rules in action, I need to set aside time to watch. Hopefully not going to say "stupid Theo this game sucks" after I've preordered everything

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/10/13 20:13:29

Post by: GrimDork

If you can handle it being complicated, I'm pretty sure it won't suck I think the majority of what is going on is streamlining the previous rules and such.

I should watch the videos too but my daughter has dominion over the TV and I don't get a lot of time to sneak off to my computer, if I did... I'd be good at using my airbrush from all of the videos I coulda watched

@grimdork, I'm glad my kids are old enough for me to go into the other room, I can't stand some of their shows, others I'll sit with them and watch. I'd be decent with an airbrush if I got off my and used mine.
@shaso, just finished season 4 , "the don't know who they're messing with" , just realized Netflix just uploaded so many more episodes for series I've been waiting on (arrow season 2 )
@WW, it's crazy awesome and was a great price to boot too.

Well no stop by MM on the way home today , but today's deal is half priced tie phantoms . Too bad I bought a second one a couple weeks back. Oh well, I can't see me ever fielding more than two at a time, even then I could proxie. It'd have to be an epic game due to their costs.

I got an email from Corvus Beli, they are sending the replacement arm for Achiles soon, I responded back to them to see if I could get a replacement arm for penny as well, fingers crossed. They have an amazing service for replacements, but you must email them with a picture of the packaging and the little slips of paper that come in the boxes as well. They come with a blue slip and a white slip, ones for the arms and accessories, the other is the main body. I guess they are the number connected to the packers so they know who is doing good and who needs a job with GW. Hopefully they will send the arm for penny, but I didn't have the packing codes for it and their site is pretty specific that they require it. Never hurts to ask.

Well off to work, talk at you guys later.

Edit: here's what got primed yesterday(on sedition wars boxes), it's a lot as those boxes are like 16x16"

There's more close up shots in the gallery if you click on the picture, I'm on my phone right now about to start at work.(read as lazy)

Watching Arrow season 2, it's... more of the same? There's a lot of dudes working out w/o shirts and talking about feelings, but it's still *technically* sort of about a superhero (kind of) so I'm soldiering on. I should catch up on the walking dead. It got a little soap operaish to me, but if you're gonna watch a soap, at least this one has zombies! Still need to watch season 8 of supernatural. Hey guys, been too busy to do anything lately. Wife is at a conference tonight, will be back tomorrow, kids and I cleaned the garage out and they don't know but we're about to go get ice cream as a treat.

Speaking of a treat, operation icestorm showed up miniaturemarket, so I picked up a copy and canceled my preorder from thewarstore.

Took a while to prime all the figs earlier, and actually threw some paint. Man these models are detailed.

Busy in a God way , yes, busy at church .....and at the hospital. Got an award at the hospital in front of all the directors and " important" people. I stopped a couple guys from stealing equipment a few months ago, called security and the house supervisor, in essence I did the right thing. Got a printed award with my name misspelled , always great to be recognized incorrectly.

As far as your single track roads, they are always great displays .

Thanks guys , had a half hour this morning before everyone got up, so grabbed another figure I've been wanting to try stuff on. This is one of the alguicide(spelling is something in this game I'll have to get accustomed to), and they have him with dark skin and corn rows. Figured I might try it out. Totally in the beginning phases on him, and did a little different on the legs than what the picture has of him. They have all red legs, but the model has a split in the fabric that was screaming for a halved color scheme. So I went red and black. Thinking of reserving the white for special figures or very limited spot colors.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/10/26 13:54:40

Post by: GrimDork

Yeah the red/black is working well for your models, a little white here and there will probably look good too. I wonder if I'll do a dark skintone for my copy of that model or not. I guess we'll see once it's primed later on

Post by: Theophony

I thought about painting him Caucasian as one of the guys who managed a local flgs had the same beard and dreadlocks, but I wanted to try the dark skin tones more. Spectre is on the workbench right now and has most of the base colors laid out. I messed up though and started with my red highlight color instead of my base color , it took me a few minutes to realize why everything looked off. Not looking to do any wild camo effects on him right now. But he is wearing a lot more black than red, and has more of the electric blue on him as well. We'll see how he turns out either way.

Infinity is an infectious looking game. I tired of the grimdarkness a while back and tried building cleaner looking models, and infinity fills that easily. No huge vehicles either , reminds me of the good old days of 40k as I started back in 2nd edition and you never saw tanks, planes or other warmachines.

Corregidor looks like the direction I'm leaning for my army as well. I haven't even looked at the rules, but I liked their more human styled models than other factions models. Pan-O looks a close second, but the Islamic faction looks nice as well. That's going to be the big problem in limiting myself to one army .

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/10/26 21:54:41

Post by: Dr H

Good job on the skin tones. I found it tricky to find the right paints when I first tried, what with not having an easy reference to hand...

Red and black are looking good. The red could maybe do with a further highlight, but that's all I can pick at for the moment.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/10/26 22:03:52

Post by: GrimDork

That's one of the 'nice' things about Infinity, even paying full retail prices you can pick up multiple factions for the investment of a single unoptimized 40k army. It'll depend on how many box sets you buy and blah blah, but you can afford to differentiate too. And even for a single faction, buying a new Intruder for your Corrigedor dudes would be like buying a new predator 10 man assault squad, can totally change the dynamic of your list and it only puts you out around ten bucks

Tell me about it... I'm neck deep in the little white-metal bastards already and I haven't even played Keep looking for more on the cheap too...

Post by: Theophony

Oh we had vehicles in second edition, but it was not the same as current gameplay where every squad has a transport, tanks everywhere, and more vehicle centric armies. I did have my reaver titan back then so there was much stomping and guard had tanks, but not every army had their tank formations like they are now.

Well Spectre is done.....for now. I'm sure I'll revisit all the models eventually, but for right now I'm trying to get them all to my tabletop quality, then can work them up further from there.

Thinking of making a trip to miniaturemarket, might just double the size of my nomads in one shot by buying the Corregidor army box. Also have returns to do at other stores while I'm out, so we'll see what happens.

Edit: I'm baaaaaaaaack

And these followed me home

Haha! Oh wait, you already got some painted. Now I feel bad mine are only primed. Looking good with the paint.

They are not tiny, they are in scale, and if you place them next to those GW troglodytes, you'll see that they are generally taller. And much much better looking.

The one Alguacil is the Latino Alguacil according to Bostria/ Carlos Llauger of CB, one of their artists and the PR guy.

So your army so far (just the listing. Do not use this in actual play) is
NOMADS
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

GROUP 1 10 0 0

ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (10)
ALGUACIL Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (10)
ALGUACIL Lieutenant Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (1 | 10)
ALGUACIL Hacker (Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (0.5 | 22)
MOBILE BRIGADA MULTI Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife. (43)
HELLCAT Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife. (24)
INTRUDER Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, Grenades / Pistol, CCW. (36)
WILDCAT Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (19)
WILDCAT Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (19)
WILDCAT Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower, D-Charges / Pistol, Knife. (19)

GROUP 2 1 0 0

SPEKTR Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife. (33)

Plus the Reverend-Healer 33 points and the grenzer at 32 points
3 SWC | 310 Points

Open with Army 4

Beginner games are at 150 points or so. 300 points are for full-scale games. Hmm, you have all the minis you need already to play full scale games, but you will probably do a bit a proxying to represent different weapon types. And add to the collection.

And you see how easy it is to have more than one faction...

@Cam. Go slowly with the assembly. Do not throw anything away from the box until you are sure it is not needed. There are some fairly small pieces to those minis-- like the antennae on the Mobile Brigada, for example.

Probably way off scale, but I picked up some katana's from Brickarms, they are for Lego figures, my son collects Lego stuff, got some awesome weapons, but the Katana's would be not far off, I got mine for my orks soth cale is pretty good. the only thing that would look off maybe would be the handles.

No pics right now, not enough progress. Just did some dark grey tones on the black. Did want to say that I got the missing arm for Achiles from Corvus Beli today. They will replace the motorcycle girls arm if I place an order from them(I requested that one at a different time and it didn't have the packing numbers with it), but shipping from them is €12.00, which is too much for me , I'll just look for an arm I can swap for her.

Waiting for class to start (physical class, not gonna wait for something classy in this thread )

Shaso, oh if I were single with no kids.....I still have my Naginata boxed up somewhere. It looks like a toothpick next to me though.
Dr. H, I remember your sword crafting from sprue, along with your statuette. , mad skill for the mad doctor.

Missed class last week(dead tired, lousy weather and my wife was going to have to drag the kids to an outdoor soccer game while she coached). One of the other students just told me we have a test tonight . Oh well we get to drop our lowest test score. Not that this test should be difficult.

I think the split pattern on each model might make the whole army cohesive, while also making each model unique.

I read so little of DC comics growing up, but I liked the concept of the royal flush gang. I thought of making them each have a card on their armor somewhere.

With the amount of sprue you have laying about, you could be a master sprue carver; plenty to practice on.

Good luck with the test.

Good luck on your test. So you work, do church stuff, and attend school? How do you even have time to type at us! Amazed at how much some people can fit into their day.

Do it! If you don't I will (once I get corrigedor stuff), I also have a minor liking for the RFG and black/white (maybe a bit of red) are great colors for the dirty corrigedor nomads

What a lot of fun that read was! Your blog has been sitting and patiently waiting on me for so long I can't remember adding it to my list. It's now been moved to it's rightful location in my Exalted list so I can keep updated on what your doing! Hopefully a lot more Infinity which is obviously a bit of a weak spot for me.

Well I got a C on the test....and the best score in the class. The teacher prides himself on trick questions, and then curves the grade , really??? What's the point except showing how awesome you are.

Kids are super excited for Halloween, and the twins woke up an hour and a half early....which means I'm up then too . So I went to paint in protest as they played and got costumes on.

Thanks guys, I'm at work right now, kids are getting ME candy , so can't say much right now except I stopped by miniaturemarket.com today and picked up Yojimbo for infinity (I'll post pics tomorrow or later tonight). He comes standing, on a motorcycle and is accompanied by two mini koala looking robots. Don't ask me why a samurai would have robot koala sidekicks....its anime after all. Just be glad there's no gay panda tentacle action happening .

Post by: Theophony

Wasn't planning on adding orange to the scheme, but might use it to highlight the red in spots later, but it will be AFTER I get all the models up to my tabletop standard.....so probably never.

Yojimbo is an awesome model, both standing and riding the motorcycle. Exploding koala bears just pushes this character to new heights.

Kids loaded me up on sugar from their haul last night. Seriously they each had about 10 pounds (weight not British currency), 4.5kg for our non-standard inclined brothers of goodies in their bags.

Also lots of compliments on our creative Halloween display in our lawn. My wife found it on Pinterest a few months ago. You take the white gallon milk containers we use here in the states and fill them with water, drawn ghost faces on them and then drop a glow stick inside the jug when it gets dark enough outside. We had close to 30 ghosts lining our fence line and sidewalk last night. They were still glowing when I got home at midnight and they are just spooky enough with the faint glow from the immersed light sticks.

She's looking very nice Theo., I think she could do with a small amount of highlights on her err assets to break the red into a very lighter orange maybe.

Highlights to thpe red will be coming soon....ish, but wanted to find a suitable third color, let me know what you think.

Not done with details yet, haven't even touched the boots either. Thinking maybe a dark brown trim on the coat or I could even do the ochre color suggested. Think I went too grey on the black areas as well.

I dunno I quite like the colors so far. I think the Grenz team is pretty cloak n' dagger so it's probably fitting for them to be dark.

I'm glad the green meets everyone's approval so far. Not sure how "standard" paint schemes are in infinity, still haven't looked at the book or rules. Well I said forget sleep and let's see how the boots look.

I also hit the coat with old gw green ink and then drybrushed over it again.
About to clock in. I'm off this weekend, but between our families getting together for family picture and my wife's 39th birthday (yes actually 39 for the first time ), not sure how much time I'll have. At least my son doesn't have a hockey game tomorrow so everyone can sleep in.

Even better although I wouldn't bring that green up any more. Bright red with bright green inevitably screams Christmas at everyone in the western world. I like where it is though, subtle. I wouldn't worry about trying to hit a specific scheme with Infinity, very little is set in stone and that goes a hundred fold when we are talking about Nomads.

At least with black, when it ends up too grey, you can just throw a layer of black wash on it and job's a good 'un.

No update today (well then why am I here?),
Just a quick stop in to say I appreciate the feedback on the painting recently, very motivational.

Also wanted to say Thanks to all out military men and women out there in case I don't get around to it tomorrow (Veterans Day here in the USA).

Yesterday was a fun day for the Mathews clan. My parents 50th anniversary was last month, but it was the first time we could get everyone together for a family portrait yesterday. Usual family bickering aside(actually none yesterday), we all had fun with the photo shoot even though my niece wouldn't allow her baby in the photo shoot. Okay it's not a real baby, she's in high school and is taking home economics/whatever they call it now, and they have these robotic babies they need to take everywhere that cry and giggle and she needs to change its diapers and stuff all the time. Well her class large and the selection of babies is broad, so she being a young goofed blonde white girl of course wound up with an African American baby (which is very lifelike) . It drew lots of attention from people at the portrait studio , especially since no husband was around .

Also a well timed comment of mine made everyone laugh so hard, honestly I think it's the first time all four of us kids were laughing at the same time....ever.

Wife surprise birthday event tonight , so not much gaming progress to show for my weekend off.

Later guys.

Well it wasn't a surprise everyone jumps out from behind the couch sort of party. Just one of her teacher friends came over to watch our kids and I took her to a special dinner at a five star steakhouse down the road.(well 4.5star now, but had been 5 star for years). Good time was had, and I have 90% of my 20 once porterhouse left waiting for my breakfast. Crabcakes and salad were filling enough even for me.

Agreed on the grenzer being too dark. I want my guys to be bright and bold and try to exude "I'm such a badass that I wear neon camouflage to sneak up on you in the dark."

Any praying person out there feel free to pray for St. louis today. They are supposed to decide wether the white officer who shot and killed an african American man/youth in one of our suburbs will go to trial today. The news people have been crazy almost eliciting riots trying to bait people after the initial incident and riot where a gas station was torched by protestors. For weeks it was all over the news, but all the people arrested in the protesting were from out of state. It's one of those events where it brings the worst people here to try and get their agenda across. Most school districts have cancelled classes today, but that's rediculous as the area of town where this happened is 20 miles from us, so my kids are in school, but other schools near us are closed. It's a bad situation for the family, officer, and the city. The area it happened in is mostly African American residents, but the police department is mostly Caucasian American, so it's automatically a target for "racial" rights activists when anything happens. The people of that area have suffered since then as news crews have been horrendous. One crew a couple days after the tragedy rented out an entire secured parking garage(fenced in) and sealed themselves in and made a huge ordeal about it. Normally people would ignore this, but it was one of the most used garages in the area and nobody could park there to get to their work .

Enough rambling this early in the morning. 3am, got up for a drink, back to sleep now

Well what do I do after church work....stop by miniaturemarket of course. Glad I did, they had put out more infinity stuff .

A box of nomad geckos(has the wrong arm in it, but two geckos, one will be converted now) for $30.00
Two Haqqislam remotes (might be missing some bits) for $8
A foxtrot trooper $6
An indigo spec ops $6 PanO
Also picked up some Arcane Legion boxes for $2 each, I know they are totally wrong scale, but if they look decent I might buy up all the Asian themed stuff to build a mantic Kings of war army out of them.

Other guy "those figs are too tiny"
Me "their scale Asians of the world of mantica, their fine."

So I went to pre-order N3 and was going to order Yojimbo along with it, but they were out of stock. I, of course, hold you responsible.

There is system for getting the missing parts, if they were genuinely missing, http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/542643.page Alpharius ( your nemesis?) has a thread with the info.

It's a bit soon to be turning into a faction whore, BTW That generally happens a bit later in the process. The geckos will work nicely enough with the Nomads you already have too.

Miniature Market sells bananas?

@red harvest, , they sell bunches(get it ) of things, but no bananas, or packs of sweet and sour sauce. I have hit them up before for a missing arm for Achilles, I just hate nit picking them. I got two of a different arm so I'm thinking of converting one to have battle damage.
@graven, is it too late to claim that I hurt myself in that trip and try and get compensation in the form of miniatures and trust me there's far worse things to trip on

Getting ready to leave for school, just finished school work for class tonight. Have I mentioned how much I hate accounting?

Numbers are tools of liars and thieves. You Enron accountants out there know what I'm talking about . Tomorrow starts my next 12day stretch without a day off . I'm thinking of adjusting my schedule at church to change that. It might work out that I can get Thursday's off except for school, which would be a godsend, but would make the rest of my week slightly busier, I'm gonna give it a test drive next week.

Okay sooooooo supply drop......again

I picked up a copy of the 2nd edition rulebook for $35.00, it might annoy me a little as the back cover is not bound correctly, but it's only for fluff anyways as my N3 preorder was made on the first day available.

Also picked up the al muymthmb,in,jvnbmfchmhgchgv 4 pack box, miniaturemarket deal of the day for $18 instead of the $50 RRP, and picked up a nomad prowler as well to get me to the $25 spin on the wheel at miniaturemarket where I got 300 points free (so $3 off my next order)

Also snagged a copy of the quick start rules for infinity, free (give a ways).

Major headache right now. Worked at church this morning getting ready for a wedding tomorrow. Was about to leave so went downstairs to check on a few things and smelled something weird from the furnace room. Opened the door and flipped the lights on, then remembered where I remembered that smell before....zombies....no, just checking If your still reading . There was a gas leak, a bad one, then I was like swift move exlax, you almost blew yourself up. Dozens of frantic calls from outside the building later and a few hours and the gas company was there to confirm and a repair company was there before the gas guy left. But I did find out the church does have good insurance just i case it happens again and my light switch flipping bless me to meet Jesus sooner than I anticipate .

Now off to the hospital, to work, no to check myself in , no padded walls at this one.

Trench is put away for now, just too much school and work for me. Liking the infinity stuff more than the x-wing right now so that is back burner. So much so I e considered selling the fleet . Just no time to play and the free time I do have is usually in one hour increments between jobs, so not really a chance to get a game in. Feed the addictions

Just shot an email to Corvus Beli to get the replacement missing gecko arm, hopefully will see that in a couple weeks(long postage times from Spain to the us ).

Also to some pics of the arcane legion stuff.

They are considerably smaller than the infinity figures, and the centaurs are only as tall as a human , but might be able to pull off an army with them for dirt cheap.
I'll definitely only do the Asian themed one though(probably) as they look the best out of all of them.

The booster packs are a little misleading. Looking at the boxes it looked like you get 11 models for xxxxxdollars. But if you actually look at what it says in small print it says "up to 11 prepainted figures" of course the three boxes I bought (1 of each faction) had 7,7 and 8, though each box had a larger figure in them. The Han box had a large samurai made out of wispy clouds, the roman had a Minotaur, and the undead/Greek had a centurion and 6 centaur, so I guess they are bigger .
The Han box also had 4 spirit guys which were in a translucent green plastic, then parts were painted. They look semi cool, and may be my archery (magic tossing) unit.

Not sure if I'll do any painting this morning as I'm wiped out physically from work this weekend, hopefully something to show later this week though.

Edit: mistakes may have been made a few minutes ago......
Spoiler:

I do live too close to MM .
That's 24 booster boxes of Han figures, roughly 7 in each box, or 150+prepainted miniatures for me to try and use in Kings of war. All for $36.00 give or take.

They still have plenty more of these for a while

Pic of some of the assorted figures from the set. My favorite are the bronze dogs, if I don't use them in Kings of War, I'll definitely use them for a Yu Jing scenery piece. After all, all chinese restaurants worth a salt have the dogs by the front door.

The spider ladies and the headless undead spirits are also pretty neat. I got closer to 180 figures for the $36, so that's roughly $0.20 cents a model prepainted. My only problem with all of them is the bottom of the figures have a peg on them. The bases for the game have holes in them and you move the figures around in the holes to gain advantages. These booster boxes however had no bases in them, and as I'm not using it for this game I'll probably just cut those off. Basically if you set them up one way on the base they move faster, but they may have less strength or armor may be lower. Set them up a different way and the can't move as fast but attack harder. So there is some interesting ideas behind the game. I'll have to get the starter set to see for sure. They had a few for $7.00. Each has 120 figures in it, plus a couple prepainted ones, the rest are bare plastic.

Camkierhi wrote:Well you certainly can't argue with the price, if you need a quick army, they are spoton.

Nice haul. So wish I had a MM down the road.

no you don't, I wish they were far away where I would not spend so much money so often. Like today

Okay it was only $20, and I got 270 figures out of it plus 6 painted ones. No pics due to time and these need assembling. But I got 2 of the starter sets and 2 of the Han cavalry expansion boxes.

The Egyptian undead guys look cool.....

I do need an intervention . MM get the returned minis they sold, and mark them down really low and put them out on the shelf. They don't have time or patience to go through all of it and order parts from the vendors. So I get a discount, wait a bit, and have a cool set for cheap

That's not the reason I have no time, it's just my way of compensating for having so little time. I have enough time to unpack stuff, but not enough to play with it, paint it, or even make pew pew noises with them .

Thanks guys, will try and do a side by side shot shortly and edit it in here. Meanwhile my weekend off......well, did more stupid stuff and no gaming , even though the brother in law came over to game. My wife sent us out to pick up a new TV cabinet/ electric fireplace, then there was assembly, moving furniture and breaking down the old entertainment center. I was quite pissed off by the time I was done they were leaving and my wife was all "oh honey wasn't tonight just great!, friends over and we have a new fireplace and the bank account is back down again right before christmas too." more heat was coming off me than off the fireplace which heats up our first floor nicely. Well at least I got something useful out of last night.

All the packing foam from the fireplace. This and the fact my brother in law ordered a copy of mordheim off eBay and wants to try that out. I'll need to dig out my copy from the great storage room abyss. Yes, there is another room in the basement you all have never seen that has really old stuff in it that I never touch.

So off to find that.

Here's the mixed shot, she's the second from the left hand side.

T minus 1:36 minutes until Miniaturemarkets Black Friday sale begins.......guess where I'll be. Live at the store, or online , maybe online at the store . Can't actually spend much as we just bought a lot of stuff in the past 3 weeks, including most of our Christmas presents.

Might just wind up getting more of the arcane legions stuff, especially if they have it even more money off. Infinity is another option, but the sale would have to be pretty huge for a splurge buy. And since they don't have any GW stuff left I can't get any skaven for my Mordheim warband .

Upside down bases. Baffled me for a moment. But they would be much easier to pick up that way. Nice idea. Nomads look good.

Wasn't Mordheim updated online after it went out of print? Specialist games or something... Since removed of course. No freebies allowed on the Games Workshop web site. I wonder if they will start using a paywall for their website at some point.

upside down bases are only temporary until I decide how I want to base them. The models fit into the slot most of the time without aid.

Well thought I'd key all you terrain guys into this Black Friday sale.

Just got an email from iplasticsuppl.com
14% off all orders starting Friday the 28th through the 30th. Just enter code IPS2014.

They sell bulk sheet plastic (HIPS) and other plastics as well. Think evergreen plastic sheets, but far far cheaper. Shipping is the biggest hurdle, but I ordered 96 sheets of roughly 1'x1' over a year ago and the price with shipping came in around $.50 a sheet compared to evergreens sheets that are normally $3-5 a sheet. Great for terrain builders

Cheap plastic sheets . Dsteingass recommended them to me (because his blog is only for me and no one else )years ago and I placed a big order way back then. It's good timing too as I am starting to run low now, only 20 or so sheets left . If I get a scratch building bug that could be gone in a day or two.

I see the quantity of sheets for the plastic is first, then the size of the sheets and price for those loads. Hmmm, tasty!

Thanks guys, now for a little break from insanity.."nah, just joking, why would I leave my comfort zone .

I bought these REALLY cheap figures (arcane Legion) to build a Kingdom of Men army for Kings of War. They were dirt cheap from Miniature market, like I have nearly 1000 figures for under $100 cheap. Some are prepainted (not pretty, but at least uniform), and most of the rest are plain plastic (bendy board game plastic). They won't win any contests for style or looks, but they rank up nice, and I think I have a cunning plan. Instead of trying to paint little faces and what not (details ), I think I'll make my army Terracotta Soldiers . Used a rusty red primer for the base coat and then use the airbrush to quickly lay multiple layers of reds, Browns, and grey clay colors. I got to cut out most of the monopose guys as stand them in their bases that came with the game, there's the same number of pikemen in a two piece model that aren't clipped free yet. The wide bases fit approximately 40 figures per base the way they stand.

Any other ideas of how to paint the Terracotta would be greatly appreciated. I'm also thinking of "busting" a few them to look like the real thing.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/12/02 19:54:03

Post by: GrimDork

Well if the layering with the airbrush doesn't work you could always get a nice red/brown base and do a little drybrushing.

Dipping may be beneficial to such a project too, but may e more time than you're willing to put in since there are so many.

whoa.... the idea to make these multitude of minis into an army of terracotta warriors is genius!... very cool theme, could be something new and original... beside making it at least possible to retain a wee bit of sanity after that painting...

as the others said...dipping...(my first idea) and a drybrushing... I think weathering powders might work too... but that would take an insane amount to get the whole lot done...could double the prize...hey... its the Christmas season... why not dust the still wet minis with a blow kiss full of cinnamon?...could work...and they would smell nice even...

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2014/12/04 21:18:53

Post by: Theophony

Drybrushing seems to be the route I'll most likely go. I primed 30 guys using a rusty brown primer which is very similar to beastial brown from GW. I wanted to get an idea how they might look so I painted up a couple by hand quickly. Ignore the archer as I didn't wait for the different layers to dry.

Bestial brown, adeptus battle grey, some other grey, another other grey (they are downstairs and I'm not right now ) I think for putzing line troops they will be good. The fat guy is an army general with a fan of command, I have about 7-10 of him, so he will be a unit leader. They all came prepainted, but I covered over their masterpieces.

So thinking of an entire army of these guys, I might wind up using the undead rules for them. I mean how scared are they of dying? Instead of Necromancers id just have "clay shapers?". I'll have to look at it more later. My youngest daughter Lilly has a choir concert tonight, so family time. Great timing too as my teacher canceled class tonight because of family engagements .

Looks like a good start. I reckon you can have any summoner/sorcerer or even a necromancer controlling the statues, they're basically lifeless dolls with a spark, soul, or puppet strings attached, so the only difference between them and skeles/zombies is that they were never alive to begin with. There's a distinction, but not a huge one. Mechanically similar let's go with that

Yep, troops marching in perfect unison not only look scary, but they are destructive. The tendency for people to "fall into step with each other when walking across a bridge and the results causing the swaying of the bridges and their collapses has been documented on mythbusters .

I don't think I'll even repaint the Foo Dogs as they look ice from the prepainted line.

About to prime more Terracotta troop fodder, just over 100 of them

I just got a missing parts package from Corvus Belli, my replacement gecko arm (the box I got had the wrong arm in it) and an arm for my amazon biker chick penthethiala.

just wanted to make sure everyone knows I got 1000 figs from the arcane legion game, does not mean 1000 Terracotta warriors though. There will be a few hundred of them for sure, just not a 1000...yet.

Little bit of free time this morning, this weekend was a bust for me-time as there was church decorating for Christmas, church, and the yearly church budget meeting, not to mention building a 1:1 project for my wife. I'll get pics once all the coats are done. Wife was busy too with 9 batches of cookies for a church cookie bake off, and preparing for tomorrow nights women's banquet, along with helping our oldests with a science project.

In the mean time I primed 22 infinity models.

Your probably right Casey, I like the lion idea, but not sure I could pull it off and don't want yo have to strip these guys.

I've been meaning to post my weekend project that my wife asked me to make.

I don't like working on ladders so I didn't want to go crazy with the lights this year. My wife saw a picture of someone's house getting the lights "grinched" and showed it to me. A couple hours later a sheet of plywood and some spray paint all came together fairly well. We had looked on Etsy.com and found people selling them for $200 each. Mine cost maybe $30 and an afternoon . He's just under 5' tall so probably not 1:1 scale. Next year I'm definitely making the dog and the sled .

Wow, that is kind of hilarious and I may have to emulate it. Probably not this year though.

Post by: Casey's Law

Don't get me wrong though, I bet you could pull out an awesome looking lion inspired Morat and I do love Lions, lions and stags, it's just that Morats are red, violets are blue. Fluff can be a sticking point for me. Personally I'm going to go with red but I'll either darken it right down or bring it right up so it looks very familiar as flesh. And I think that is the sort of racial diversity that doesn't tread on any current or future fluff.

Grinch stealing you Christmas lights: Priceless!

A Hooville Christmas scene would be awesome. Add a few pieces every year. I understand about the ladders too. they are not friendly to tall people at all. And yet guttters do not clean themselves. Now that would be a great invention, self-cleaning gutters, or something like it...

I'd keep the Morat's red, or very close to it. Skin color variation probably occurs among them too, so I would expect various shades of red (50 maybe?) among Morats.

Thanks for the Grinch photo. Made my afternoon

Well, I was almost late to work today (only happened twice before in my 30 years of working), because as I was pulling out of my street I saw UPS pulling onto front street. I was worried the wife would find my Christmas present to myself .

The N3 (Infinity third edition for those not in the know) preorder has arrived, including the free authorized bounty hunter I've had plans for him since the first picture was leaked. His left hand is in full "rage fist" mode, but I'm thinking of using one or more of my stash of RSJAKE's translucent nukacola bottles to tell a different story about him .

I didn't get to look at the books as I had a mandatory meeting I had to be at, but a few things popped out at me. First there's actually two books(which I knew), ones a fluff book and the other is all rules. Both come in a nice slipcase to boot. The books stick out from the slipcase by 1/8" or so though , not sure if bad planning or a design to get the books out easier. The othe noticeable thing was one of the books (didn't even get to see if it was the rules or fluff) cover extended 1/16" further than the pages, no reason for that. The only thing I could guess is the printer goofed on the page sizes and they corrected with a larger cover.

I won't get time to even peruse the books until Thursday when my kids are getting braces and I have to sit still for hours.

Maybe in the Infinity universe caffeine has been outlawed, so he is confiscating it . I posted the idea way back when they previewed the model and suggested a contest for the conversion, a few people liked the idea, who knows I may start one.

Well another kickstarter that I backed has arrived. The impact miniatures fantasy football kickstarter is fulfilled before Christmas. Tom Anders, I think is the owner, switched 17 fantasy teams over to the trollcast material from metals. They have some really neat looking teams, and some that are just bizarre (looking at you platypus/counts as goblin team). Anyway when I backed I didn't have tons of funds to throw at this, so I just picked up two figs that I wanted. The ogre/oni big guy, and the bar wench . Casts are great, I didn't like the placement of some of the vents, such as the one in the oni's hair, but the material is easy to work with. My Oni came in four parts, only supposed to be three, but his leg was busted at the ankle, clean break that superglue fixed. The only other issue I have with him is he doesn't fit on his base. Not even as close as the necron figures who only get their heels on the 25mm bases. But otherwise I think the sculpt is fantastic, and he will somehow join my terracotta Kings of War army.

Here's the pic

Just posting a few pics of what I've been halway working on over the last few months. Hobby time has been short, and motivation has been non existent. But some things are brewing, ideas perkily ting and samples are being made.

First things first. The servo skull janitors have had enough of other people's crap . It's time for war, and these guys mean business (as can be seen by the green armor ). There are many more "brothers"(though some might be sisters as it's hard to tell when there are only skulls and mechandrites to show). Here's the first batch of three servo skull baddies.

The next thing that has gotten some ideas floating around in my head is from a previously defunct game (it's died twice before) Alkemy. It's a small skirmish 10-15 model Mordheim style game, that is finally being supported now fully in English. Before it was first only in French, then the rules came out in English, but not all the models had rules in english . Now the new company has hired the player who did a ton of translations and made English adaptions for the game on the web and it is coming again.

Pictures will be added shortly of these guys. I'm on my trusty old iPad and it deletes everything I type if I try to keep toggling back and forth to grab more pictures, so beware the edits.

Edit1

The big guy is called a colossius, he is the heavy whooping stick of the Kingdom of Avalon.he is on a detailed resin 40mm base and is massively detailed and is also all resin. The kingdom of Avalon is a human kingdom in the Alkemy world. They broke away from the Jade Triad and founded their own lands many years ago. The kingdom is run by the Church, but they also worship a great tree, which is alive and imbues certain individuals with powers (mutations) and great strength. So in all intensive purposes this is the chaos army for the game.

Edit2

The jade triad. The "main" human group in the world of Alkemy is the Jade Triad. There are three rules of the triad....duh, two are known and the third is not....that one controls the ninjas . No tropes here . I love the fact that most of these were on clearance at miniaturemarket.com and I got a fully playable 300pt triad list for about $30. All the triad figs I've shown are all plastic . Plus there are 4 different archer poses, 4 different spear poses (each has two female, and two male). The two ninjas are also one female and one male, so there is nice sculpt diversity, and also the size of models is not all cookie cutter. A couple of the figures are heavier set men, not overly fat, just bulky while some are slim. Also no ham fisted gw models here . The regular troops are mostly done, I need to work on the two heroes and the two alchemists(magicians) still.

Last edit for a while.

The mix of others for alchemy. In the mix are the booster box of aurlok including their shaman and a pack of musicians, and the only box of the cat people that were left. The Aurlok are very Native American themed with the basic Aurloks being selected by animal totems as children and them taking on their totems aspects as they grow. So their are crow, wolf and ape aurlok. The cat people are a very Arabian themed army with sultans, dervishes and djinn. There are the different species of cat people, all who seem to flaunt the females furry breasts . The only two figures I could get were two dervishes.

Like I said I picked up all the clearance boxes at MM, as the game has been dead for a while they did not have all the different armies available, but I did get a starter of jade triad to have the rulebook and the special dice for the game as well as tokens. The rules are free online though, so check it out. Seems very easy.

looks like a big resurrection wave.. if that´s what they call the afterlife... then i waant my money back... too long working hours, the grub is also no mana and i seldom see harps here....

i´ve only ever seen some ebay auctions of alkemy... and never really saw good enough pics to assume what scale they´d be...

your green dead re-plugged army looks rather cool...is that a self made cog on the shoulderpad?...cool! bet for that army a nice suply drop with a certain mechanicus content could work quite well not that anyone would want to tempt you too get more plastic in your house...

Good to see you around Theo.

Alkemy is looking good, I've been watching their activity lately as well.

I think you should hold off posting pictures of your samples, sounds like you've been influenced by papa Nurgle while you've been away

Thanks everyone......including Alpharius(as we know you always get the opposite answer from that legion )

And now a renaming of my servo skull legion thanks to Grimdork (he might not even have known the inspiration from his words ). I was always wanting to do Angry Marines, but didn't like the yellow. Now I can make the Angry Servo Skull Marines...or A.S.S. Marines for short . I just made a quick stop by church to get it ready for an event tonight and on the way was struck by an idea that should work with this. Can anyone say POWER FOLDING CHAIR OF KRUMPING .

I'll try and do a scale shot of the Alemy minis for reference.

Oh and also
Spoiler:
im still not back , just visiting

Haha, well now that he's doing the ASS Marines, I can do regular servo skull marines

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/12 00:40:47

Post by: Theophony

Your regular servo skull marines just won't be able to cut it against my ASSmarines, we own the whole ASSault phase .

Well the juices are flowing again, and the support helps a lot. I appreciate it fellas.

Got some time so I took two of those primed Aurlok figs and tossed paint while listening to Marvel agents of shield season 2 episode 1 (just got season 2on Netflix about three hours ago ). So here are the two wolf totem warriors.

Obviously I didn't bother getting rid of mold lines . Oh well with the discounts I got on them from miniaturemarket.com I paid about $1.25 each, and I think I'll grab another box as I believe I can have three or four of these guys. I did forget to paint their eyes, was trying to think of a different color to go with for that, and I'm not liking the red for the tomahawk handles, will probably do the leather strap look when I revisit them.

Here is a closer pic of the colossius.

He is imbued with the sap from the great tree, which has changed him from a regular warrior into a giant destructive force of nature. I tried to make him look more wood toned to his skin parts of him have turned completely to wood such as his Spindley legs and he has branches growing off his arm. He might be slow, but he hits like a tree that falls on you during a tornado.

And lastly a size comparrison for a triad warrior vs an ASSmarine.

I had painted him a week or two ago and then tried to put some agrax earth on his robes. It rolled right off or pooled in odd spots on the robe. Luckily it looks enough like dried blood that I won't complain too much about it.

Wut season 2 is on netflix now? Kickass, I've been looking for something to watch

Those guys look good, creepy color scheme which seems appropriate.

Tree-inclined giant is pretty sweet too!

Yep, I got an email notice season 2 was now available around 4pm. I'm into episode number 4 now .

Also here is the link to the N&R page about Alkemy. It also has lots of links in it too including for the rules and group builders.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/648598.page

I've started 2 more figs, but pretty much wiped out for the night, so off to bed shortly. I'll finish this episode of SHIELD, check the MM deal of the day at midnight, and then .

Oh and this guy also got a new paint job.....you might see him in the morning

Miss Dee, my servo skulls are just crazy enough to volunteer for the Borg.
@Cam, thanks for the heads up on Minus, quickly jumped through that thread to see what's up. Obviously the only people who knew of the game were French, since that's where it started. He has some awesome painting skills to boot. And I missed you guys. I've been back over in the N&R threads getting bitter again . But it's been refreshing to come paint and chat back in the happy world of P&M blogs.
@Vik, no spoilers then, besides I'm more listening than watching.
@angelof vengence, so far so good ,

Well as promised I'm showing off more of my ASSmarines

Meltabomb still needs painting, but he's ready to join the frey. These assault marines have no legs as that just slows them down. Who needs legs when you have a jump pack anyway?

And the wolf brothers got yellow eyes too.

Aurloks got painted up as well. I think they will all have the yellow eyes and the leather outfits to tie them together (doesn't sound right )

The musicians give others in the army buffs if at a certain range.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/13 01:02:00

Post by: Theophony

Well the ASSmarines are just a progression of the "attack of the servo skulls" and servo skull janitors that I made a while back. If I recall correctly there are certain members that were already indoctrinated into that group . They will get their armor and new paint jobs. Some might even become veterans . I got base coats done on the last three Aurlocks that I have (2 regular crow warriors and the shaman) before I left for work. I wasn't sure on colors, but we will see if they turn out alright or look like plucked chickens. I'm actually hoping more for the second.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/13 01:05:26

Post by: GrimDork

Haha, plucked chicken look does sound creepy!

I think the ASS marines would finally give me the chance to guiltlessly use a pair of the sedition war hunchback dudes with the big back cannons (not the one on all fours, the more man sized dudes.. forget name) as plasma cannon equipped servitors hanging out with a techmarine/motf. Obviously the servoskull legions need techskullmarines to keep them running.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/13 04:03:44

Post by: Theophony

That's a good idea...I can break out my sedition wars bone crabs and use them as scouts(just need large bases with enough height on them to "bulk out" the model.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/13 04:25:56

Post by: GrimDork

I've just got the regular boxed game but those guys always looked like plasma servitors to me. And the regular necromorphs could be standard servitors for why not.

Even considering having 3 servoskulls take over a dreadnought, mount them by the sarcophagus like a digtrio...

I need to stop, urge to dig out my marines and bits rising...

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/13 07:37:47

Post by: angelofvengeance

Just got the shiny new assault marine kit- awesome sauce!

Eviscerator is massive.. 40mm long from pommel to sword tip! Very chunky too!

Has an old school power pack in there (the one with pipes on the back) and the combat shield can now be fitted to left or right arms. Plus pose-able legs (ok limited pose-ability but still!)

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/13 09:06:41

Post by: Viktor von Domm

your wolf brothers have a slight kroot vibe... maybe you could add some bitz there to make them more individual?

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/15 05:02:03

Post by: Theophony

@vik, I think the vibe if from them looking so feral and the loincloth
@angelofvengence, the new kits look great....but the prices even with 20% off its too much
@grimdork, you must make a servo skull faction you know you want too. you will be ASSimilated

Okay so I worked this weekend, the wife is under the weather, and the weather is lousy so not much achieved. It's a good thing I'm not back

Worked more on the crow warriors/plucked chickens.

Their are two basic guys there with spears, cause crows have good eyesight I guess , and the one with his arms raised up and the feather cloak on is the shaman for the Aurlock. The feathers are turning back into birds, I forget the game effect his spell has, but they did a nice job on the miniature to represent the effect.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/15 09:11:04

Post by: angelofvengeance

I dunno, you're technically paying £5/model for this particular kit(RRP) and getting a shed load of bits to tinker with on top of that. That's a pretty good deal, whereas it used to be you'd pay the same price for 1 or 2 metal minis in a blister with 3 or 4 extra bits.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/15 12:50:50

Post by: Theophony

Yes, but I've gotten on a cheap streak and have found miniatures like these Alkemy ones that are fun to paint for about £1-2 each. Also I've got so many marines it's not funny. I haven't pulled my metal marines out in probably a decade but I should have a battle company of them plus terminators. The plastic marines are sitting at a full first company of terminators, plus three or four full battle companies. I had planned on having a full chapter with ALL the models plus tanks and support staff. Then GW got stupid with pricing, and I changed jobs and kids and stuff.

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/15 15:00:38

Post by: Viktor von Domm

oh... you can change kids?...would such a change only be acceptable due to job requirements?...so... if my kids bring me to my knees nerve-wise...i could just change my job and be a relaxed man again......well...truly you live in an amazing country....

for a change of painting i recently got me some big robots from a happy meal... look tau-ish... remains to be seen how long they stay on my shelf of shame

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/15 15:28:47

Post by: Theophony

It's easy to change kids Vik, the only problem is if you get caught you go to jail for a very long time . Bad punctuation was my fault.

Changing jobs was relaxing on one hand, going from 70-80 hours a week and not seeing your three kids except for when they were asleep or you were dropping them at daycare to being unemployed and getting quality time was nice. Till the bills come in. Finding a happy medium is not as easy though.

So stupid work thing that got me really angry and frustrated just over a week ago. Part of my job at the hospital is to switch out the privacy curtains in the rooms when patients leave who have a communicable illness. The housekeepers clean the rooms and call me to take the "dirty" ones down then I put new ones up when they are done cleaning the room. Well when they go into these isolation rooms they have to wear isolation gowns, which are just cheap plastic see through gowns that are disposable. Being plastic they get hot to wear and you get sweaty quickly in them, especially if the room temperature is high, which most patients prefer. I went to one of the rooms to take the curtains down, and as I approached the room I saw the female housekeeper and thought "something is amiss here." Well this particular housekeeper doesn't like the standard blue plastic $0.03 gowns, so she grabs the more expensive $2.00(or more I'm not really sure) see through fabric gowns used in the family birth place area that are white. SHe also can't tie the knot behind her back as that is too mentally challenging , so she wears the thing backwards, so the opening is on her front, which exposes her to any contamination. I'm thinking "oh well" then my spider sense tingles again and I realize that the gown color is not what was throwing me off. It was the fact that she took her shirt off before putting the gown on . There she's standing in her bra, with the see through gown on backwards in the room cleaning. I had it , I just couldn't stand the stupid anymore, it was on the ICU (appropriate huh) intensive care unit floor where families are walking by with their kids going to see grandma and grandpa for the last time and instead getting a show. I went to the nurse supervisor and asked her to go "talk" to her as if I had said anything it would turn into sexual harassment against me. I had to walk away and try and recover. This is not the stupidest thing she's done, just the most recent stupid thing, and she still works there. Good thing this job has REALLY great benefits, and I'm not talking the free peep shows of older women.

Happy meal robots . I don't go to McDonald's but maybe once a month for greasy fries, I'll have to check out what they have next time. I usually can find something at miniaturemarket for dirt cheap that keeps my painting fix satisfied...not to mention the thousands of figures I already have that need attention.

Yes Vik, you are correct

He will probably get another level or two of highlights on the metal areas, but in the mean time I need more primer

Wait how can you run out of primer on just 30-40 figs, seems like poor planning doesn't it? Well it gets easier to run out of primer when you prime 150-200 figures , long overdue project is getting closer. Those 150-200 figs are my KOW orcs I got last couple of years, and never painted but maybe 10-15 of them. With the new printed second edition rules due out next month I need to get a move on.

@bbb, yes they are, I think I have a few more.....somewhere. A buddy of mine and I spent a day traveling around st.louis 20+ years ago going to the 11 toysrus back then and buying ALL the battle masters sets we could, they were on clearance . I built a huge empire army and chaos army from the sets, he got all the undead from heroquest expansions and had like 60 mummies led by Settra. I've traded off most of that since then, but still have plenty of the Knights and a couple cannons, and minotaurs.
@RITides, well once those cubes start to arrive these will go back burner for a while, so hurry up

I think I'll try and build some huts for them before leaving for work. As they say......I have a cunning plan.

Well Vik, these are last years buys.....but still insane

I decided not to build huts, instead I tried some oldschool painting on the ogre, which I use as mantic giants.

He will of course get more layers, but the cartoony look still brings back fond memories.

Spent most of the weekend healing up...again. I sprained my left ankle really badly a couple months ago, doctor had said I was borderline surgery candidate. Well after a month of healing I was good again, till last Saturday when I reinjured it. This last weekend I did nothing, and it was a relief, but back to work tonight, so we will see how tomorrow goes.

Huts might happen this week, just depends on how much moving around I can do. I need to use some tools that are put away to build the huts, plus get some supplies.

er... for a hut or for a silo...i am confused....

well for the former the planks, the latter the frontier look...er...hmmm... still confused...hmmm...how do you get it smaller? and maybe a bit smaller in diameter too?

Going Down: Beyond the Gates of Antares  @ 2015/06/26 20:06:17

Post by: GrimDork

If you could somehow cut those in half height wise... good for huts. Either, though I'd think the planks would be better for a village/established area, and the poles would make more sense for a temporary palisade/fortifications.
