Warpath Wargames Club Norwich - Official Dakka Thread
Hello and welcome to Warpath War Gaming Club. We are a small friendly War Gaming club who play regularly for fun. Our members come from a wide range backgrounds, experiences and abilities.
How do I join?
Come along and meet us! See if you like the club and would like to play regularly. If you do the Club Treasurer will request payment as detailed below.
We accept new members the first week of every month; ideally your application should be supported by an existing member. If you miss the first week you can always play as a guest which will give you an opportunity to meet our members.
How much does it cost?
Full Membership is £10 a month, this is to cover the clubs cost such as the room rental and the purchase of scenery for the club.
We also offer a Guest membership, £3, which is based on a pay and play system. If you don’t play you don’t pay.
If you just want to watch then its free, Visitors are always welcome
What is included in my fees?
All Members and Guests
• A Venue - A safe and friendly place to War Game.
• Variety – We do not limit what system or Games you play. If you want to play it and can find an opponent you can.
Full Membership
• Gaming Priority – Full members take priority over non members. While we can not guarantee you will always get a Game, you’re more likely to as a member than as a guest.
• A Voice – In all club meeting, you have a voice in how the club is run.
What else do I need?
o Your Preferred System Rules, Dice and Figures required to play.
o A Dakka Dakka forum account – while not essential, we do operate a thread on the forum and good number of our members post there.
o A good attitude
The rules of the club are listed in the Constitution and Code of Conduct (issued on joining) and should be adhered to.
Warpath War Games Club does not guarantee that members will play.
If you cannot attend a prearranged game please inform you opponent(s) in good time.
When do we play?
Mondays 5.30- 9.30pm at Bignold School, Norwich. Except Bank Holidays, these are normally rearranged to the following Tuesday but I will update this post whenever one is coming up.
Which Systems do we play in?
The Majority of our members play either Warhammer Fantasy Battles or 40,000. However there are a number of other systems played including, Hordes, WarMachine, Dreadball, Bolt Action, Malifaux and Infinity. Additionally we frequently play board games, collectable card games and occasionally RPGs
The Management/Contact the Club
Like all clubs we have a few members who keep everything up and running. They are:
Nick ( me ): Dakka Thread Guy, Treasurer
Moe ( moe_the_ork): Chairman
Alex ( Spankhammer III): Club Secretary

Dreadball league rules are great, im happy with1 win and 1loss and managed to level up a player roll on next week!
32930

Two losses for me not so great but I didn't have any deaths and I did have a striker level up and gain a point in skill. That's right I now have a rat who can throw half decently.

Just got back from the Copper Bowl Dreadball tournament at Table Top Nation. Somehow I managed to finish 3rd. In less surprising news Leon won overall.
Had 4 really good games over the day, won all 4. The first being a really edgy 1-0 win the last turn. In the second I won 3-0 in overtime. Third game again went to overtime with a 1-0 win and finally I won the last game with a 7-0 landslide in a mere 3 rushes (ie on my second turn).
Not a bad day overall and to top it off my prize for 3rd place was a £15 Mantic voucher.
BTW Duane no Dreadball league this week as Leon said he probably won't be able to turn up.

Mantic are doing a new game on kickstarter around April time. Its going to be based on the Warpath universe but will be skirmish level so only a small ulite unit of troops. Its also going to be played on a grid so no tape measure. There going to be doing modular terrain with it as well. Its sounding awesome. Cant tell you anything else!
There also got another game in development which we will see even sooner

32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Yep there's a good reason why any armies I make in the future for GW systems will only use 3rd party models. I still like their fluff and their rules systems are still half decent but the models simply aren't good enough to justify the prices anymore. I'd much rather use models of a lesser quality which are much cheaper. Which would explain my WIP Mantic High Elves and old school Warzone based IG which are both generally considered to be less good looking than most GW model but tbh I actually like them. Although that might be mainly due to the lack of skulls. The IG army also gives me an awesome excuse for cool tank conversions which is always a plus. Like this:
Yeah I know you've all seen it before but it's actually got paint on it now.

Welcome to golgotha.
Year: 273:227:m32
Segementum pacificus.
Calisthe system
Planet: golgotha
Pop: Human: 4.2 billion, mutant: 2.8 billion/aprox
Other: 370 million
Government: alternating autocracy, ecclesiarchy representative,
Religion: prime: faith of the eternal flame. Secondary: order of his holy emperors will.
Notable features: described as an "old terra" type planet, golgotha still has plentiful oceans, rich agriculture, boating 14 distinct continents golgothas climate is as varied as its people.
Diplomatic envoy: the imperium has had a diplomatic presence on golgotha since the end of m31, given the planets high resources and technical expertise, the imperium has been reluctant to bring golgotha into the imperial fold through military means, citing it as a waste of all too valuable resources,
Note: the newly founded ecclesiarchy has sent representatives to golgotha in the hopes of converting the local population to the imperial cult. This has met with little to no success amongst the human population, however, the mutant population has taken to the imperial creed with vigour. A side effect of this has led to the humans regarding the imperial creed as a "skabs" dogma
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Notable locations:
Bato city: capital of the eternal flame (major faction)
Bato city is the prime city* on golgotha, it boasts the second largest human population on the planet, and the largest mutant population. The streets teem with life and is considered a "modern" world by imperial standards, it is rich in pre imperial architecture and has a thriving economy. It's main economic drive are its excellent pool of artisans (electronic), they produce many fine pieces of technology, mainly void shields, and personal fields, this has led to the mechanicus expressing and interest in the planet, a request thus far that has been refused.
It is due to its highly advanced defences that bato city is currently in ascendancy, as a result of.this the planet is undergoing an "arms" race, with bato cities main rivals continually trying to find ways to defeat its highly advanced defences.
The confederation of purtat being batos main rival, it's expertise with ballistic tech has led to an almost abandonment of las technology, the confederation has developed "breaker" tech to overcome many types of field tech.
Whilst golgothan "las" tech does exist, it is both extremely basic and currently dangerous to use, being dubbed "radders" by those unlucky enough to test them.

WTF is all this about?
34439
Post by: Formosa
We're starting a mini inquisitor campai.gn gorrila, mainly it's to see if people like it, and if so, we can.do a proper one
Ok so a few pointers for all who are playing.
Play smart: for new people inquisitor can be quite daunting, its a complicated set of rules, you cannot and will not be able to pick it up in a few games like 40k. It's.my job as gm to know.the rules.and help smooth the game along.
Cover, sneak, think: this game is brutal, if you dont make use of cover, skills and use your brain, you will.die, no one wants there beloved character to get cut in half or shot through the face, so use your smarts, if you dont.think you can win dont.be afraid to run away, come up with interesting ideas to aid this, this game is about narrative more than rules, if.you come up with something cool and its not in the rules, dont worry, it's my job to allow you the freedom to do crazy stuff.
Character!: you are your character, "but" I hear you.say "I know lots about 40k", yes thats true, but your character doesn't, try not to make decisions based on what your characters dont know, you as a player know what a khorne bezerker is, but does your character? You can clearly see thet gang of muties coming at you on the tabletop, but your character cannot see them, this brings me to my next point.
Communicate: talk to each other, when your minis are close this is simple, but what about if they are across the board? Shout! Or invest in communication equipment, everything in this game has a use.
Not in the face!!: another thing to consider is injury, it will happen, taking a gunshot to the leg can be.very traumatizing and as such this can negatively affect your character, guns shops are important to find... But so are doctors..but what if your trying to lay low? Go find a vet...use your brains gents
Background: this one is mainly for me, I need to know that your acting in character, for.example.we.can't have a dark eldar character being bff with a.deamonette, or a isstavanian aiding a thorian, remember you all have motivations for being part of the inquisition.
Ask questions: seriously, if you need to know something just ask, but.not just me, if you find a lasgun all damaged and what not...ask a guard character "yo bra.. Also I'm thinking of running a 40k campaign, I've spoken to Greg about it already, if any one is interested. It's node based all you need is 1750 points of 40k doesn't even need to be one army just as long as they can be allies. I know we've not had alot of luck running campaigns in the past but that's because I wasn't running them only joking. Seriously if your interested I need 2-3 people I'll bring my notes Monday so you can decide from an informed basis

Anyone fancy trying it out?

Post by: Voltan Ignatio
Hey guys, my name is Owen, I first started playing over 15 years ago and used to play at GW vets nights in the late 90s, i Just recently got back into the hobby (well September last year) and slowly finding a suitable arrangement to fit all the hobby awesomeness into my life!
Primarily a WHFB player, I'm looking to test my burgeoning Empire collection and see how things go, who knows, maybe some big tournaments in the future.
I'd love to come down to the club on Tuesday and meet you all. I'm sure there will be a few faces I recognise, Formosa for sure (Hi T, I had a chat with you about possibly coming down maybe a couple of months ago) and perhaps one or two of you might remember/recognise me too.
Happy to come down and not expecting a game on my first night, but if anyone is free and fancies a crack at a pretty new general (played 5 games with the new rules - things have changed a lot since 6th!) then I'm happy to play against any list.
If its a possibility, points wise I love 3k games, but as a new player I'm not up to speedy play yet, so perhaps something a little smaller to get my feet wet with timed games.
Anyway, this is me - I also have a few other armies and a ridiculous collection of space marines that realistically might not get any love in the near future so may be able to discuss a few trades (meaning I could flesh out my WoC and HE with some of the new toys)
Looking forward to a few welcomes and perhaps an offer of a game to spur me on in my weekend off hobby binge..
So, yeah - let's see what happens!
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
I think this Tuesday you stand a decent chance at getting a game.
I look forward to meeting you, you'll instantly recognise me as the fat ginger bloke shouting at people to pay him if they want to play a game.

Post by: Formosa
Yo Owen, yeah I remember you mate, if you are wanting a fantasy game on Monday, you are in luck, around 5 or 6 of us will be bringing our fantasy armies, I would happily give you a 2k game if you wish, or you can jump into the big game were having?

Post by: Voltan Ignatio
I wouldn't mind a 1v1 game to cement my learning of the rules. Although happy to jump into a big game to level things up if needed.
Ill bring a bunch of stuff and a few quartermaster lists and we can decide on the day as that might be easier.
Now to sort, prepare, fix and pack my stuff - playing at home has its advantages!
Cheers guys, looking forward to it!

Just a reminder for everyone that next week we'll be meeting on Tuesday due to the bank holiday.
I also have a small announcement to make, sometime this year probably on the club birthday in August we will be running a painting competition. I'm currently working out the full details and will hopefully be able to give at least a couple of months notice so that everyone has enough time to get their entries painted up.
My current thoughts are that there will be 3 categories each with their own prize and no limitations of genre (ie sci-fi, fantasy or historical):
Single Miniature
Large Miniature/Monster/Vehicle
Squad/Regiment
I'll throw up full details about what can be entered in each class when I've got everything confirmed. Additionally there will be a separate prize for best conversion chosen from every entry and of course an overall winner who will receive a truly awesome prize (and possibly a trophy too).
On the subject of the large prize my current thoughts are biased towards either Warhammer Fantasy or 40k since that's what most of our member play but I am open to say Warmahordes, historicals or anything else you guys can think of, so suggestions please. I was tempted by a large number of paints but I suspect that anyone entering this competition has enough paints anyway.
The final point is entry fees or a lack of them, obviously members get free entry but guests paying just to enter a painting competition seems kinda wrong. Thoughts please everyone.
I'll discuss this further with anyone who is interested on Tuesday.

I think it was fair to say that was a very very unusual game last night Shredder. Good fun though.
40565
Post by: Shredder
Yes, it was a good game.
The Harlequins did well, but no where near made their points back.
The crimson hunter was very effective.
The swooping hawks did nothing, but I didn't play them to the best of their abilities.
The jetbikes were great, but couldn't do anything once you tied them up in assault.
Your guardians did very well, that's a lot of firepower they put out.
Your Rangers were very good also, nearly taking out my flyer! and they were difficult to take out.
I'm looking forward to trying out my Dire Avengers in their wave serpent.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
I have to say I was really impressed by just how resilient my toughness 3 5+ save Guardians were. Particularly once I tied those jetbikes up. I was really happy with the performance of the Rangers, I suspect I'll include another unit in larger armies.
What I really need though is some mobility and a decent anti tank option. I reckon for a 1000pt list a unit of Swooping Hawks and a Crimson Hunter would be a very nice addition. However I also really like the Striking Scorpions and Fire Prism.

Hi all!
I'm fairly new to the area and I've finally found enough time to start gaming again. I was hoping to come down and visit the club next week (the 1st July), but thought I'd introduce myself here first.
My main army is Dark Eldar for 40k, which is the only force that is in a playable state that I have with me. I also have a bit of fantasy (Night Goblins) and the beginnings of a Malifaux band (Lucius). What are the main things people play at the club? What points size is 'standard' for 40k?
I've started getting into miniature based board games (I blame kickstarter) recently, do people tend to play these? I have Dreadfleet (fully painted and tragically underused), a blood bowl team (but no board) and Super Dungeon Explore if anyone is interested.
Looking forward to coming down!
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Hi,
The main games are definitely 40k and Fantasy, unfortunately Tragic (sorry Magic) the Gathering is also popular. I shouldn't complain too much though as that cardboard crack helps keep the club running.
For 40k the main game size tends to be 1750pts, for Fantasy it's anything between 2k and 3k. Although if you arrange a game in advance you'll probably be able to find some one willing to play pretty much any game size you can think of .
Other systems have previously been more common but those who most regularly turned up with other games aside from myself seem to have mostly disappeared. Still once Malifaux 2.0 appears and I have an incentive to repair my broken though over use Vics crew I'll happily play Malifaux with you.
Wouldn't mind playing Super Dungeon Explore either, played it once and had a lot of fun.
43277
Post by: stormwell
There is also Warmachine and Hordes, I'm happy to gave a demo game of the former at least.
75126
Post by: HereBeDragons
That all sounds good! I can sort out a 1750pt Dark Eldar force easy enough. If I just bring it down next week will it be easy to find a game there and then? Or should I arrange one here ahead of time?
I'm an absolute Malifaux beginner but I would like to learn the game at some point. I just have the basic crew box for Lucius at the moment (and I still need to build them...). I suspect I may need some more stuff to make it playable.
Maybe when I come down we can find some people who'd be keen to play Super Dungeon Explore one week. Sadly I can only bring what I can carry on my bike so its army or board game :p

That was a bit one sided wasn't it? Sorry.
Good fun though, I must admit with all the marker lights I was really expecting to struggle as with such poor armour saves I really do need cover to survive. I think most of the credit for the win can probably go to the war walkers which survived an astonishing amount of "attention" from your army and probably earned their points back several times.

Nick, you know you were talking about doing an escalation league if enough people were interested?
I would be interested in maybe warhammer fantasy or I like the look of dropzone commander.
But I'd only be able to do it once I've got a job!
With dropzone commander or any other system, it would only be worth doing if there were enough people to play against. I like the idea of playing another system. With fantasy, there are enough players that I know I'd get a game in.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Yeah the problem with non GW systems is that there's a brief surge in popularity then it seems to die off again, Infinity and Malifaux both had this. Obviously I'd love to see more systems take off but I think it's fair to say that we mainly play GW games.
I'll have a think about an escalation league more seriously this week and see who would be interested on Tuesday.

I've been reading the WHFB rule book and the Tomb Kings army book. I'm definitely going to go for Tomb Kings.
I'm really liking the idea of fantasy, having read through the rule book.

Good choice, personally I'm looking at the Dwarves. Hopefully we'll discuss the escalation league with more people on Monday.

If anyone has got an army I could borrow, I'd love to get in on a game of Fantasy tomorrow, like I did before.
I've been reading up on it and looking through battle reports etc, and I'm really quite excited about starting.
I've just bought the Tomb Kings army book of ebay for £9.50 so pretty happy about that (don't think the wife will be, but too late now!)

I'll be there with 40K also, I have had a big kick on painting this week and have made some good progress on my Dark Eldar. I thought after their crushing victory last week, they deserved some attention.

Right I'll definitely be down on Monday with my marines, although I'll only be able to run a 1500pt list as thanks to the new codex my army has gone from 1750pts to 1555pts. It'll only take a couple of tweaks to drop those 55pts though. I guess at some point I'll have to figure out what to add to the army, a thunderfire cannon and dakka pred are really tempting me.

Well, I'm sure you can guess who Moe the orc is.
A few members don't use the forum so you're not going to be able to do much organising. I wouldn't worry though we never organise these games anyway. We just show up and play.

@ James;
Hey, I'm the other bret player, not sure if lee (the skaven player) uses this forum much.
But from memory his army goes along the lines of: Lvl 4 seer on bell in a biggish unit of clan rats, 1-2 units of storm vermin(horde formation), 2 hellpits, 2 morters, then a small unit of rats and 1-2 rats ogres as chaff. - hope that helps.
I've sent a pm to you with a rough idea of what I run, as I'm pretty sure you were the other bret player. If i've got names muddled up and sent the list to the opponents then that's my bad.

Small update re me playing 40k, I'm back up to 1750, bringing the templars out of storage and back as allies. I'm sure I'll lose horribly as it's fair to say that my list is basically a random assortment of what I can fit into 1750pts from two separate 1500pt armies but what the hell, it looks like a fun list to play and since I'm using my White Minotaurs as Imperial Fists successors fluffy.

Just a heads up for everyone, my access to the internet is going to be rather patchy for the next few days so if you need to contact anyone about the club Alex and Moe are your best bets.

Going to make sure that I make it down tomorrow, I'll be bringing a couple of squads to do a demo game of Secrets of the Third Reich with.

Is there anyone attending the club today who doesn't have a game arranged and wants to play Warhammer Fantasy against Empire?
Have literally the whole day off so will be packing up my case and heading down to the club for the first time (finally!) this evening.

Post by: Nick Ellingworth
Whilst I won't have any fantasy with me this week, I'm sure you'll be able to get a game. Unfortunately quite a few of our regular fantasy players don't post on or read this thread.

Excellent thanks Nick. Do you know what points Lvl people normally play at?

Post by: Gorillawizard
Its usually around 2400, sometimes 2000. I might be down tonight, not sure yet. I'll post on here to say if I am or not later on.
32930
Post by: Nick Ellingworth
As Gorillawizard said, it's mostly 2400 with occasional 2k or 3k games. Getting a smaller game shouldn't be an issue either as long as you don't mind waiting for someone to write a list.

Ok won't be down tonight, but their are usually around 5-6 guys with fantasy, Me, Moe, Lee, neil and two other who i don't really know.

Well my Guard lived up to their nickname of 'The Bad Luck Boys'.
But there is still hope for the 13th Battalion, Morridane Darkwatch.
