I always intended to revisit this idea and with the release of Campaign: Paradiso and a few interesting community projects needing support, this seems like the perfect time. So the purpose of this thread is so we can all have a say on what we would like to see for the community and then make these things happen. I'll keep this post updated with our ideas and progress, I've added a few things already so feel free to discuss them or suggest more.
Some of you will remember the original Community Growth thread and the days when we shared a sub-forum. Due to the success of that thread though I'm sure there are many new faces who won't know what I'm referring to, if that's you then you might enjoy clicking in the link above and having a read but here it is in short.
As recent as early 2012 there was almost no Infinity activity on Dakka, a couple of threads active at any time was about as good as it got. There was however quite a few people playing the game or interested in getting involved, we all felt strongly about the game and wanted to grow the interest on Dakka. We got together and asked for our own sub-forum but with almost no activity we were very reasonably declined. Undeterred, we got together and started making use of the sub-forum we had, increased the community size and organised it for ourselves. Sure enough the other systems using the forum were swamped by the activity and we were moved to our own space. Since then the community has continued to grow to the size it is today.
Anyway, enough with the history lesson...
Phase Two:
Painting Competition - Success!
- We had a very successful competition run by myself, the theme was 'Two Tickets to Paradiso'.
- Thanks to yakface for giving us the go ahead and walking me through it.
- Thanks also to our amazing sponsors, Corvus Belli, zariart and Shae-Konnit who supported us with a plethora of great prizes.
0-12 Operative Program - Success!
- This is a program similar to the Great Marine Swap but specifically for swapping Infinity miniatures painted in your army scheme.
- Thanks to Chemical Cutthroat originally suggested this thread.
- Due to his absence I have stepped in to run the thread, the next step is boosting the activity which I will do when I have more time on my hands.
Community Showcasing - Success!
- This is a brilliant and active thread with a list of Infinity related P&M Blogs, we post notices when we update our blogs to help direct traffic.
- Thanks to endtransmission who originally suggested this thread.
-Due to his absence I have stepped in to run the thread.
Community Pledging - Success!
- This is a brilliant and active thread where we pledge to paint, build or game with our Infinity miniatures.
- Thanks to Von Skyfury who pushed me to set up this thread.
Slogan, Theme and Banners - Success!
- A discussion was had about the, "It's not your list, it's you." slogan and the concensus was that it's too negative. We decided that, "It's how you play, not what you play." was a more positive representation of the Dakka community's view.
- I unknowingly started using the term 'Community' a lot around here and after running it by Alpharius I am now using it to designate the busy/important threads that I look after. It's nice that they stand out as a group now as they are traffic magnets.
- Thanks to Tunnel Rat we have an epic lineup of banners for you to use! He's put a heck of a lot of work and time into these so be sure and pass on your thanks!
Infinity Tacticas
- Thanks to Revenent Reiko for this project, he is bringing over reposting the tacticas from the Official forum.
- Progress:
Shasvastii Tactics by CDK
Bushido and Stealth: A Treatise on the Japanese Sectorial Army by Dude
Errhile's Qapu Khalqi: The Men of the Gate by Errhile
PanOceania Tactica: The War Room by Flipswitch

Vassal - Benched
- There's been on and off talk about using Vassal to play Infinity online but it hasn't taken off for some reason.
- This will likely be benched until someone decides to take it under their wing.
- As long as someone can put together a tutorial and work out the kinks by testing then I will happily open a thread and look after it. It probably wouldn't be hard to do.
Campaign or Event - Benched
- This was also a discussion had during the first phase but I've benched it for the time being. It's too big, too soon but I'm aiming towards it and will make a move when the time is right.
Remember: It's not what your community can do for you, but what you can do for your community!

The Infinity community boomed here on Dakka mostly because of the Painting Competition. Maybe we can hold another one again (and somehow tie it in with Paradiso). I just don't know how the details would be handled for that one, and who will take care of the prizes.

Post by: Casey's Law
That's a great idea and something I was planning on adding to the OP until my phone battery died. I know how they run the competitions and would be happy to sort it out, I don't know if CB would be up for prize support again but they are pretty good with stuff like that so maybe. Let's throw the idea around a bit before approaching yakface.
A Paradiso plantlife themed model could be a fun competition to have.

Maybe dioramas to make it a bit different? A Paradiso diorama competition might be a nice thing to have. For sponsors, if anyone knows a store/webstore that sells Infinity and is willing to fork over prizes for advertising and publicity, maybe you can talk to them.
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
Good idea. We should ask CB first though, and Dakka has a few companies that have sponsored here in the past and which will no doubt be happy to do so again.
Dioramas are great but they would have to be greatly limited in size or people could be put off. Maybe a duel with a maximum size base or just a single model in scenic terrain but you can use a TAG size base? Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay I've commenced discussions with Yak and CB about the competition. Right now I need us to define a theme for the competition, the more input the better. We can go more complex than last time but let's not kill it with rules that no one be able to follow. Paradiso should be the core of the theme I think but let's not go crazy with size, full blown dioramas will put most people off I bet. We could include an 0-12 aspect to complement Chem's program?
Arakasi and Reiko will be dropping by when they can to tell us a little more about the things they were/are working on.
I'm also considering just picking up the ball and running with it in terms of a few of the simpler suggestions above. Since I update the two stickys it'd be easy for me to take endtransmissions and Chem's threads under my wing. Anyone mind if I do this? Gives us some early success and makes space for more ideas in the OP.
I can also fix the Beginner sticky obviously, we can't have another sticky but what do you guys think about redoing the thread using the Infinity style from the rulebooks? Security clearance messages and stuff to divide it up, call it 'Do you want to know more?' and maybe move the videos to their own thread so it loads quicker.

OK so as i put at the beginning of Penemue's Ariadna Tactica thread one of the things i have noticed that is lacking in our Infinity community here on Dakka is the Tactica articles that are all over the faction specific parts of the Official Forums. They are something that i absolutely love to read through but as the Official Forum was workblocked for me (coincidentally i have now left that job and i haven't started my new one to find out if i am still workblocked ) i wasnt able to read them during the greater part of the day, so really this project started off for purely selfish reason to start with (im not going to lie here...), but as i thought more about it and saw more and more people joining Infinity on Dakka i saw the same questions being asked over and over again and decided that i would take the opportunity of me having some time to see if i get the Tacticas posted over here for Dakka to take advantage of.
In this vein i asked Penemue on the Official Forums if he could either re-post his Tactica over here, or if he would mind me doing on his behalf with full credit to him. To my delight he replied almost straight away and was more than happy for me to re-post his work over here, which i did here. This has really boosted my confidence for asking the other authors if i can do the same for their work, or if they would like to join Dakka and re-post themselves to spread the love.
My eventual aim is to have all of the Tactica articles that are found on the Official Site posted on Dakka (either posted by me or the original authors), most of these are currently stickied in each of the faction's sub forums, but some of them appear to have become unstuck so i will have to do a little searching to get them, but a general list of them:
PanOceania Tactica: The War Room by Flipswitch
Shock and Awe JPs guide to the Shock Army! by jonny p
Tactica: Neoterran Capitaline Army by Tamrielo
A Treatise on Warfare: The Imperial Service by No. 33
Bushido and Stealth: A Treatise on the Japanese Sectorial Army by Dude
A Treatise on Warfar: Yu Jing by No.33
A Beginner;s Guide to Yu Jing by No. 33
Caledonian Highlander Army Tactica by tesco
Hassassin Bahram: Sacred Sword of Allah by Maru
Bazaar Guard's Logbook - Qapu Khalqi by Errhile (less of a Tactica than the others, im not sure about this one as it isnt in the same format as the others)
Your Handbook to the Nomad Nation by MuRm
The Crooked Smile of Corregidor: Tactica by Lampyridae
A Guide through Bakunin - Thoughts about Units by Picken
Morat Guide to Supremacy by Mulciber
As im sure you can see not every single Faction/Sectorial has a Tactica available, but these are the ones that are either stickied, or i have seen a consensus within the threads that they have good ideas so these are the ones that i am aiming to get posted on Dakka.
So there is the basic premise and a few of my thoughts on the process, i have a few PMs sent and a few more being written, but real life has caught up with me at the end of this week so i haven't moved forward with it how i would like. Saying that, i should be able to get some more answers tomorrow/tonight and will update here when i get replies (and i will add links when/if threads appear as well).
Thanks for the thread and the shout out Casey, let me know if you need me to add anything...

Thanks for posting that run down. It'd be great to get these on Dakka so we can access them easily. I'll also be able to link them in the sticky so even if they fall from the front pages they can be accessed easily.
Anyone got any opinions they'd like to share on the ideas in the OP? Or have any more to add? Don't be put off posting if you're new, the chances are that you have better insight into what is needed than the rest of us.

No problem Casey ,thanks for the publicity as an update, tesco has just given his permission for me to repost the Caledonian Highlander Army Tactica over here, so i will repost that over here tomorrow.
I really like the idea of another painting competition (although i will have to be more of a spectator... ) , good on you for taking the next step and organising it!

Well, I could certainly assist with that
Similarly, one of my pals has organised a couple of gaming groups on Facebook on which another one of my pals is trying to organise an Infinity Campaign of some sort for any players of Scotland. Dunno if such a thing would be useful to any of yous?

Reiko, that's great news! Also I must say that it was Arakasi that gave me the push to make a start and contact Yak.
Shae, that'd be sweet, I was actually trying to think of some way of bringing you into this phase. I didn't want to ask you for prize support because I know that can be a tall order for a smaller business but if you can that's great news. Could you pm me with what your able to do and we can talk shop a bit or whatever privately.
Corvus may come through with support too but that should be fine if it's the case. Anyway, we can talk about that in pm.
A campaign sounds really fun. There are only 3 Scottish players that I know of though and we are two of them.
Would an online campaign be possible? It could tie into real games or Vassal. OR, and it's a big or, would there be support for an event, which was discussed last phase but never came to fruition?
I'll add campaign to the OP.

I changed that slogan to "It's How you play, Not What you play."
Still emphasize on the player instead of your list but less negative and actually has multiple meanings. Like good sportsmanship.
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
Oh yeh sorry, bud. The one in the OP is my personal favourite but I should remove it now you've raised the point.
Let's discuss the best option now?
I see the problem with 'player, not the game' it's a little negative still although not combative anymore, imo. What I do like about it is it's snappy, easy to remember and doesn't take up much room.
I like the your newest option too, especially the multiple meanings. It's also very friendly which is good. I do worry that it's too long winded though, could it be shortened without killing the meaning?
Also, it'd be cool to get this on a new set of signature banners when we decide what's best. I think BlueD did the last ones...
Oh and did you ever get my email reply thanking you for those icons?
56607
Post by: CDK
I wanted some sort of emphasis on how it's played without finger pointing. I think in banners the How and What should be bold or different colors too.
Oh ya no problem. I hope they helped.

This. This is awesome. It might be an idea to tie up with Reiko. Automatically Appended Next Post: What do you think of this:

It took me several times reading it to get it. It needs a comma in there somewhere lol.

Not What, but How you play.

Haha yeh that's where I put the comma originally but it didn't feel right. If you think that's where it should be too then that works for me.

CDK i would be more than happy to lend a hand with a Shasvastii Tactica thread if you want to put one together (i can either look over other tactics threads on the Official Forums and on Dakka for tidbits, or help give you a layout to post, or proofread or...well anything you need really )

*feels summoned* lol
Great job everyone on organizing all this stuff! Looks like you have a pile of motivation and talent a brewin. My notes about the bullet items...
1. Painting Competition: I though we did that just a few months back, but looking at it now that was almost half a year ago lol. David, Fer, or Carlos should be able to help you out from CB which who I'm guessing you were talking to. Let me know if you need any assistance, though I'd be careful on the diorama thing. Dioramas are usually just for advance players with money to burn on spare minis, not you average person. I'd say stick to a theme of a unit type like Heavy Infantry or Models with sniper rifles, etc.
2. Campaign or Event : This one kinda ties into #5. There is a lot of people that just wouldn't have access to the opponents needed for a non-online event. Not saying it's not possible, but it'd be pretty hard at this point in Infinity's growth.
3. Slogan and Banners: I have no issue with a slogan, just be careful on this because some people may think it's really CB's slogan.
4. Faction and Sectorial Tacticas: I've never been a big reader on these since the usefulness of a model is EXTREMELY subjective to terrain, opponent, mission, etc. I can't deny they are great for new players though to at least give them a heads up. We just have to make sure that they are getting updated.
5. Vassal: One of the Infinity forums guys was working with me on this a while back to polish the Human Sphere icons into Vassal, but I'm not sure where he left off. The last time I tried Infinity on Vassal there was a serious lack of proper maps to use. Infinity on Vassal is best when it is limited to a 2D map like a spaceship boarding action or underground caverns time match. At that point the game mechanic become flawless in terms of translation to a 2D program. If anyone needs me to DL this and schedule a time to teach or ref a match just let me know.
6. 0-12 Operative Program : I LOVE this idea and have kept an eye on the thread. Unfortunately my current project list is way to long to participate.
7. Infinity P&M Blog Links: I try to pop in on these every now and then, but sadly not as much as I would like.
Keep up the great work everyone

Haha, yeh it feels pretty recent! I'm a tool, I realised I hadn't actually sent the email off which explains the lack of reply from CB. It's away now so hopefully I'll be talking to one of them soon. I should be okay organising things but I'll keep you in mind. Definitely could use assisatance on nailing down the theme in this thread.
Yak agrees that we can use a more complex theme than the anything goes style of the first one but as you say, keys not make it confusing. I'd like to see Paradiso being part of it but I'm not tied to it. Unit type is a good idea, I'd love to see a TAG competition but maybe cost will deter some casual entries? Whatever the unit type I think we could add 'in the jungles of Paradiso' or something similar. I can add a blurb to the competition to quickly give a feel for what that means.
BlueDagger wrote:2. Campaign or Event : This one kinda ties into #5. There is a lot of people that just wouldn't have access to the opponents needed for a non-online event. Not saying it's not possible, but it'd be pretty hard at this point in Infinity's growth.
Yeh it's a problem, I would LOVE to set up an event in Glasgow but I don't know if there would be enough UK interest and too many people won't be able to find opponents for a campaign. As you say this ties into #5.
BlueDagger wrote:3. Slogan and Banners: I have no issue with a slogan, just be careful on this because some people may think it's really CB's slogan.
Good point! If we can limit this slogan to a new Dakka Infinity signature banner then it should hopefully be clear that it's not official. I've asked asked Silver who made the last banner to pop in and maybe work out something new. If he can't I'll maybe badger Tom or Ouze.
BlueDagger wrote:4. Yeh these probably aren't very useful for veterans gamers like yourself although I hadn't considered that. These will be great for linking in the Beginners Sticky though and for people like me who aren't as confident with their tactics.

It'd be good to know how far that got. I found the maps very confusing but I was playing my first game ever so I really wasn't sure about how things worked in 3d nevermind 2d. If this gets pushed forward a tutorial and some downloadable maps could be of use. As you say though, the game system translates well to Vassal, I was very aware that there was no need to take shortcuts or strip anything back. Maybe you and Arakasi could work something out for this. He's going to drop in here soon I think.
BlueDagger wrote:6. 0-12 Operative Program : I LOVE this idea and have kept an eye on the thread. Unfortunately my current project list is way to long to participate.
Yeh this is one of the coolest things we've got going. It's a shame Chem isn't around to keep the wheels turning but I'll get it up and running tonight using the plans he laid out.
BlueDagger wrote:7. Infinity P&M Blog Links: I try to pop in on these every now and then, but sadly not as much as I would like.
Yeh I kind of drifted on this without any OP updates happening. Again it'd be great to see endtrans around to run it but since he isn't I'll take it on and polish it up to encourage people to use it.
I have ideas to improve the last two threads as well. Hopefully they'll be visible tonight.
Also, good work from everyone! I'll update the OP.

Wouldn't you know it! There's now a Shasvastii article by Bardelius on the Infinity forum. Though I didn't like the way he wrote it. For one, even if you don't like a particular troop you should never put it down. You should talk about how to use it, not that xxx is better than that. It was mostly comparisons than anything else. So I think I'll still write something up.

I see that isn't in Reiko's checklist. Are there more that might be missing from the list?
Also, we should bring the tacticas over unless everyone agrees that the quality is too low. Doesn't hurt to have it here even if you write your own. I can link them all in the sticky anyway.

Yes there are more that are not on my list as i saw the same things wrong with them that CDK has, there are a fair few of 'i dont like this so im not going to write about it' in some of the other Tactica/unit comparisons that i have read, hence why i havent added them Now dont get me wrong, some of the Tactica i have listed have entries in the same category (see tesco's views on Doctors for example) but i feel the rest of the articles/threads are written in such a way as make it less of an issue. Anyone and everyone is free to disagree with me and recommend Tacticas for me to request, i am absolutely 100% OK with that, so please feel free if you see anything and would like it posted over here PM me or post in this thread and i wil add it to my request list There are also some others that i havent added to my list because they arent comprehensive enough across the whole range of a faction (there is a CA guide that is for cheerleaders only for example)....

Can I interject here about the slogan?
Having never been remotely close to winning a game. The "It's not your list, it's you" was getting me a bit down.
Now the last version I think is too short, you need to double take. The first new version "It's How you play, Not What you play." is perfect because it is a repetition, so not too long because the same words are there your brain decodes it very easily.
Just my 2¢. As a n00b.

I'd love vanilla PanO, if possible. I'll eventually branch into NeoTerra eventually, but not before I make another round of purchases. I think MO would be too low of a model count for my taste.
Which makes me remember... I'll have pics of all my goodies soon!

Hah, I was just in the mood of writing a Shasvastii Tactica myself! I feel like I've been using them long enough to actually have enough experience to make statements about them, though sadly I have only used a rather limited amount of models...
That said, I never really get the time to be able to sit down and write a tactica. I tried writing on my cellphone, but it was hard to sort my thoughts and getting some good writing done, so I guess you're better of writing it.

I'll see if I can't get him to come back around.
I love this idea, especially since it's consolidating everything in one place.
Excellent. Till next time.

Just my 2¢. As a n00b.
Now where is that Like button...
I'm with them. Shorter isn't always better. Mathieu is right about the repetition. I would also if not bold, I would cap How and What. So: "It's HOW you play, not WHAT you play." Then the emphasis is on the "How" and "What", not the "you".

I completely agree CDK. Which is why I added it to the OP last night. I decided to bold the important words because caps lock comes across extremely obnoxious.

Great CL!
One thing I was thinking about some of the Tactica I've read, is that many use a Pro/Cons approach. I don't think there are Cons really. I think there there are Good use of a troop, and maybe Bad use of a troop. Or better yet just how you Use it.
Here's some subject ideas I had for tactic articles. I don't think in terms of factions because these are things that can be used by all factions.
How to use Infiltrators
How to use Hidden Deployment
How to use Hackers
Where to place a Sniper or HMG
Getting cc specialists in to cc (without getting shot)
Combat Jump for dummies
To Link or not to LInk

Okay the threads I remade are completed.
So if you want to be an 0-12 Operative come over and sign up here.
If you are looking for inspiration or want to add to the pool, head over here.
I think the Operative thread could use some clarification. Thoughts?
Also, if there are some non-tactica threads that we want brought over maybe someone could work on that while Reiko works on the tacticas?

Mat, Flipswitch has agreed to let me bring the War Room thread over here (and is even planning on PMing me when the thread is updated, what a lovely chap!) so i will work on that when i can (ive still got another couple of Yu Jing threads to bring over, but the new job is bringing up lots of problems atm and i havent even started the job yet! hopefully tomorrow afternoon, but it may be Saturday, sorry)

Awesome Rev, you're doing a great job.
I'm still waiting on a reply from Corvus, I might drop them another email middle of next week if I haven't heard from them.
Apart from that, is there anything else we should be looking at? I haven't heard from Silver, is anyone else able to make signature banners?

Rev: You take all the time you need. It's not as if the internet is going away (much to GW's chagrin apparently)
Are we contemplating a painting competition for real? I'd love that.
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
It's already being organised, Mathieu. Yakface gave me the go ahead to get things started a while back, once I get Corvus' reply I'll be able to push forward and get things ready to go with a start date.
Did you get to take part in the last one? I ended up running out of time, I've still not painted the model . I doubt I'll take part this year as the organiser but if I do it'll be watermarked and I won't be elidgible to win anything even if I could.
18980
Post by: Arakasi
Well, if you can be the only watermarked entry, you can be the best of the watermarked entries! The competition was really fierce last time, breaking DakkaDakka's painting comp participation record by a mile - and I wouldn't expect a second one to be any less fierce. I'll have to dig up my review of the last one when the official thread gets put up - newcomers tend to not realise how important presentation is to participating...
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
Hahaha! I can be the 'special' winner!
Yeh presentation has a huge impact on the voting. Any help we can give people would be good.

Some Infinity fiction from users might be fun. The force background thread seems to have died now, but there were some good posts there.
Something similar being integrated into our Infinity discussions might be good. There isn't much Infinity fluff out there, so some fan generated stuff will help bring people in.
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
That's weird Silver, I was just coming over here to suggest we do something with fluff when I saw you had posted.
I think that certainly a good idea, what sort of threads would you suggest? I'm hoping trades in the 0-12 thread will encourage some fluff and I'm planning to put some in my blog but that's all I've come up with.
Also, did you get my pm about the banners, Silver?
17349
Post by: SilverMK2
I think some force background, general background and faction background are the three main areas.
You could perhaps also do a "living background" based on either batreps or even RP's between your forces and others. I know my original force fluff mentioned several other Dakka members factions - might be fun to weave that kind of stuff in.
Yeah, I got your PM - took me until now to check the thread as I have been all over the place this week. If you need any banners doing just let me know and I will give it a go (I did the original banners - though I think someone else added the faction symbols)
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
Those are great ideas, if anyone wants to work on that stuff it'd be great! Once I tie down ny own fluff I'll definitely do more towards it.
I'll pm you about the banners mate. It was Blue who put the icons on last time btw.

I want to finalise the entry requirements today so now is the time to have your voice heard. I would like to know what you think before I set it in stone.
I've been thinking about the vassal ideas and I came up with a project but it's something I'll have to work on alone and won't be much use to the community. Anyone else got an idea or two? How are thing going with your project, Rev?

As someone who has recently bought his first infinity model, (and my first non-GW model at that) I would like to agree that the painting competition is a great idea. It was that which initially gave me an awareness of the system and it's aesthetics, especially a beautifully painted Saladin model iirc.
It would also be a good idea to have a greater presence in the Showcase and P&M Blog subforums, I know I spend idle 30mins skimming through photos there but it appears to be 99% GW stuff. I'm sure a lot of you have some very impressive armies built up? Show off some of your creation so that people become aware of what Infinity is!
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
Thanks for posting, mould2k. And welcome to Infinity! I'm so glad that the first competition got you into the game too, makes it all worthwhile. The Saladin model in question was by bou by the way, he has a couple of blogs/showcase threads.
You're definitely right about the painting sub-forums. We have the Community P&M Blogs thread but it doesn't see much action anymore sadly. Hopefully this painting competition gives it a boost again.
Also, I'm sitting on a batch of miniatures which need a blog and a paint job so I should really get off ny backside and do something about that! I think a lot of the regulars have big batches if unpainted Infinity miniatures actually. Maybe we should have a pledge to paint thread?

I've been writing up some home-brew rules for Infinity that will need some community input. So rather than post them on the official forums, which has a lot of such things already, I might well start a topic here (and possibly the new Data Sphere forum - linking comments from the two).
They relate to using a 3rd player/gamesmaster in games, and fighting in amongst civilian areas (with rules for civilian interactions, security and police forces, and other random events) - something I also thought was an inherent staple of the imagery surrounding Infinity, but that is very hard to pull off within the game mechanics. Will hopefully have something to post soon

Post by: Casey's Law
Excellent news on all fronts!
No rush on the Nomads Reiko, just nudge them up the list. I'm looking forward to hearing about this project Pacific. I'm really into the idea of combat in heavily populated areas. It's very 'Infinity,' lots of combat hacking and stand offs, civilian devices getting mucked about by the crossfire and then it all goes to frak. A hacker slumps lifelessly to the pavement and the bullets start flying. Awesome...
Aside from organising the competition I need to pm you too, Silver. Sorry I keep forgetting, I'll do it tonight.

Fixed that for you.
It's how we soften the blow for new players here. If their egos can't handle losing that many games then we suggest they find something more appropriate to their sensibilities. Like "frag".

Post by: Mathieu Raymond
I would tend to not have any beef with this, if both players were noobs, shouldn't there be a similar learning curves for both, though? If you get completely hammered repeatedly and never go past the second turn, then it still ought to be indicative of one player's inability in general, no?

I have yet to win a game of Infinity. I've probably played half a dozen or more.
There are all kinds of various reasons, but I think my biggest is that everytime I've played with different units.
But I think I'll win one of these days.

I think you, and players in general, should try playing with the same list in several games. How can you learn to use some troops if you only use them once? Maybe change around your Lt. a bit or other minor changes but other wise stay with a core group of figs. Learn to play them. Then you can try new stuff and learn those.

You're quite right CDK. That's my problem, and I've hopefully solved it by setting up my core group of units. We'll have to see next time I play some games, hopefully I don't get trounced too hard.

I agree that you should try to play with the same units for a while. What I did, was take the same set of basic troops (Ghulams and Muyyibs in my case) and add 1 or 2 models with rules I didn't know or understand, and then I'd learn how the models work during the game.

I had a quick glance and it looks good to me CDK. I'll give it a closer look when I have more time.
Yeh, I've had a Painting Pledge thread in mind for a while. Not sure if it was my idea or not. There are a few around Dakka, basically it's to help us support each other in getting our miniatures painted. Because no one want's unpainted figs! Anyone can post up what the want to get modelled, sculpted, painted or whatever each month or year and you can post updates on how you are doing. The aim is simply to complete your pledge by the end of the month.
I'd like to hear from those that have or do use them to see how effective they have found it.

I haven't found where to post this, so I might as well do it here, so if it is bad form. But I heard of a Gecko profile in Nomad, I think? Antenocitis Workshop's Komodo battlesuits, imho, would be poifect for those, no?

It also doesn't help that I've been wanting to get the Defiance Games ones (if they ever come out, lol) And then I remembered, Ironbovin also has Nomads... so scrap that.
And yes, by that logic, I could not play you, Von Skyfury, because you have "one of everything", but yours aren't painted, so I'm cool with that.

Don't get me wrong that's such a cool miniature, but I'm not sure how well suited it is to a Gecko. From the description it said they are used on ships and the like, almost like a halfway to a HI or something. And, I can't seem to find the rules for it right now, but if my memory serves me correctly, aren't they very fast moving and agile (perhaps something more like a Sphynx comes to mind?)

I was originally shooting to get the competition live today(one year wince the first one) but we are going to delay that very slightly now. Since Adepticon will be occupying a lot of people's attention right now the competition will go live after it has passed.
I won't give a specific date as of yet but it'll be soon.
I hope you're all excited and considering what you might be able to enter. And to those of you heading off to Adepticon, have fun you lucky gits! I'll post an update on this or something else again soon.

About time the sticky thread gets a make over methinks. Best that I hear what you lot think first though. I've got a few ideas to run by you but other ideas are very welcome.
What do you think of changing the subject to 'Would you like to know more?' I think it's still pretty descriptive for anyone seeking it out and it's a nice thematic nod.
I'm torn as to whether I should dump the videos into a seperate thread and add a link. On one hand I think a lot of people get use out of them but on the other it makes the thread a little heavy instead of purposing it as a hyperlink map/content page. Thoughts?
I think from experience most of the new guys come through via that thread but they still have a lot of questions, often the same ones. I'm pro putting in a FAQ to answer the common ones, short, straight to the point answers with links would be good. If you agree with that, should it be in a seperate thread with a link or in the OP?
New links are very welcome at this stage too!

I think it'd be okay to say that you should expect the Painting Contest in very early June. Obviously you can't prepare for it but you can keep your diaries open! Book some painting time now folks!
I'm truly sorry to keep you all waiting so long, it's just been difficult on all fronts this time. If we do it again it'll be better prepared and go smoother.
In other news, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of opinions on the Beginners Sticky changes. I'd rather not go in blind and ruin it but I guess it's reversible. If there is absolutely no input I'll go with my gut and then ask for feedback.
Also, I haven't seen Revenant Reiko around in a while. If he is out of action is there anyone who'd like to pitch in and help keep his project going?
If that doesn't suit you but you have a bit of spare time there are another couple of things that you could do to help out.

Thanks!
I realized that I'm probably going to have to do most of my INFINITY gaming at home for a while...
And once I bought a house with a nice large dry basement...

Have you thought about what kind of theme you will go with for it yet?
The oh so common Industrial Zone, probably!
I'll also have a half Industrial/half Fall/Winter Wilderness border zone too, for all that hot Svalarheima action!
I've got another MAS Apartment to build, along with a MAS Garage and 2 "L" Shaped Buildings.
After that, there's a few more Sarissa Precision buildings I'd like to add. Their new "Centre Point" looks very nice, and would make a nice Winter Outpost I think!

Woops I flew clean over that Pan O post Revenant. My bad. I think Haqq (specifically QK) is the one that other people seem to be quite interested in.

Post by: Alpharius
Good point there - QK seems to be quite popular.
Which is why I'm surprised that:
1) The QK sectorial box took so long to come out
and
2) That it didn't have any new miniatures in it!

Post by: Revenent Reiko
Haha no worries motyak, its easy to do...ill see what i can do about a QK tactica, although the Bureau came out today so i may be more busy than i first thought...
is that a sore point Alphy? It is a very popular sectorial though, sort of disappointed in CB that they didnt at least do a resculpt for the box...

Nah, I'm OK with no new sculpts in there.

Glad to have you back, Rev! And thanks for getting back to bringing those threads across. I'll update the list for yah. Could I request the Bakunin one next? Oh and any idea why I have one of the threads scored out but I haven't linked it?
Sorry about my tardiness guys, I'll catch up over the next few days. Rubbish week, blah, blah, blah, more in my blog, bouncing back. Will sort out the threads that need updates when I get the chance.
Alph, I am so psyched to see you getting your projects seriously underway and onto Dakka. Make sure you give us a link when you put it up!

well just received my first 3 starter sets yesterday, PanO, yu Jing, and Ariadna, started painting the Ariadna first, since camo is kinda my thing, but the others look fun to do aswell.
And I ordered way to much terrain recently for this game.....my bank account is not happy, but ohwell, cant take it with ya
But I will not buy anymore stuff until I get what I bought painted..modelwise, the terrain is gonna take a while, even though I took the plunge and got a H & S 2 in 1 airbrush, just thought that the infinity models and terrain could benefit from the airbrush approach, and to top it all off, I chose the clean urban tablescape tiles for my kickstarter package, so when it all comes together, should be nice looking set up.
So much to do

Haha, I said that. 'I'll buy a 200pt army and then buy more when it's painted'. 16 additional models plus a TAG later...
Though it was actually to my benefit. I had a game on the weekend where 2 of my original lineup (Fiday and Ghulam) were off bases waiting to be stripper, so I subbed in an Odalisque and a Barid hacker, and they performed better than I think the Fiday and Ghulam would have. My 200pt lineup has officially changed.

Haha yes.. good if you have the will-power to stick to it, although I fail abysmally and have at least another couple of 300pt forces that are still in their original packages..
Make sure you start a P&M blog for all of your stuff Soo'Vah'Cha, looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

EDIT: Of course, as this was an expansion of his old thread i was going to port over, this one 'Bazaar Guard's Logbook - Qapu Khalqi by Errhile ' i am not going to bring over (can you take it off the list Casey?)

Thanks, i do try Im struggling to find a Bakunin Tactica other than the one i listed before, and ( iirc) that was only a brief(ish) unit analysis...will see what i can do to help you out Casey! EDIT: Nevermind, the 'Guide to Bakunin' is a LOT more comprehensive than i remembered...

Looking forward to it, mate but don't burn yourself out.
Your enthusiasm has prompted me to pretty up the OP. And I'm going to start redoing another OP while I'm at it. Maybe... dare I say it? The Begginers Sticky! Duhn, duhn, duhn! It's about time, eh?!
I've also come up with a cool idea for it which means splitting into two threads but makes a tonne of sense considering traffic flow and usage. I kind of wonder why this never struck me before!

Post by: Revenent Reiko
Well the request is sent...no reply as of yet though (but the writer is offline so im not surprised ). Yeah it wont be up tomorrow, but maybe Tuesday or Wednesday depending on answers/time etc.
No way! Not the beginners sticky?! haha only kidding. Looking forward to seeing the new (and improved?) Beginners sticky, and the new plans for the double thread...ill confess i have no idea what you mean yet, but im looking forward to it nonetheless....
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
Nice one, dude!
Working on the sticky now, hope it works for everyone. Basically I'm turning it into a contents page/FAQ and making a separate beginner/FAQ thread which I believe will get a tonne of traffic anyway. The link to the beginner thread will sit proudly at the top of the sticky though.

Post by: Revenent Reiko
Thanks, Bakunin thread is a go! (once i re-post it of course)....theres also been a specific request for comments/ideas so that the Tactica can benefit people both here and there...
liking the changes to the sticky, sounds like the split thread is a great idea! it might be an idea to incorporate some of the posts from the 'New players questions thread'...
Now an idea has been posted that the Tacticas are made into Articles....which is entirely plausible, and is probably how i should have done it the first time, but im not sure how quickly that would happen....thoughts?
123
Post by: Alpharius
Having them as articles would be a good idea actually...
But I've no problem with them as threads either, though there is always the 'danger' that they'll slip down the page and essentially disappear.
43045
Post by: Casey's Law
Nice one. More work on the sticky tonight by the way.
Yeh articles and threads is probably best. Threads get more traffic but articles don't have a best before date. I can link both in the sticky. As far as I remember you can pretty much copy and paste what you've done in the threads as a new article but you'll have to change any and all coding to html or something similar.

Post by: Revenent Reiko
Yeah that was my worry Alphy, but i dont know how much traffic the articles get...dilemnas dilemnas lol

It's not sad, it's awesome! I'm far too excited about them too.
Any suggestions are welcome on the sticky and beginner thread, I'm just going to keep adding links and info until I run out.

So a quick apology here guys. I'm just experiencing a bit of burnout right now. It might have something to do with everything taking so long on my phone. Rewriting an OP is a full blown mission without a PC. On top of that I'm not doing much hobbying which isn't helping.
It won't be for too long I reckon but I'm just going to enjoy this break rather than fighting it. I hope that's okay with everyone?
I am keeping in touch with our very generous banner maker though, I've told him there is no rush and he estimates a couple more weeks. What I've seen so far is amazing, you guys will love it, 100%.

Thanks Pacific. I'm genuinely sorry I've not been around much, here or on Dakka in general. I'm pretty determined to get things back up and running though in the new year. For now, here is a quick update on where we are at with Phase 2...
Spoiler: The banners are complete! so the last thing to do are the Tacticas. We might need to give the Rev a prod and see if he's busy. If we can get that list complete then it can just evolve naturally from there on. If he can't manage then can someone take up the reigns on that one, please?
After that I doubt I'll be doing a Phase 3, not as extensive a phase at least. I don't think we could do much more at this stage and I think the traffic is going to slowly and steadily increase with or without our efforts. If I do pick it back up it'll be for something like a proper vassal set up or an event/campaign of some kind. Probably a combination of the two. So just one big project rather than lots of little things.
Right, that's all. See yah all later!
What? Oh yeh...
Merry Christmas!!

I'm probably only going to manage to squeeze off one post so here it goes...
My phone had decided, seconds after my last post, that it's game over. It was out all over the holiday and I've just got it to occasionally run with a G connection. I'm being leant a phone tomorrow while I send this scrap metal off for repair so hopefully I'll be available again. Anyone awaiting contact from me please don't worry, I'm working on it!
Talk soon!
