A painting pledge thread? Wazzat?

Yeh, I've had a Painting Pledge thread in mind for a while. Not sure if it was my idea or not. There are a few around Dakka, basically it's to help us support each other in getting our miniatures painted. Because no one want's unpainted figs! Anyone can post up what the want to get modelled, sculpted, painted or whatever each month or year and you can post updates on how you are doing. The aim is simply to complete your pledge by the end of the month.

I'd like to hear from those that have or do use them to see how effective they have found it.

I haven't found where to post this, so I might as well do it here, so if it is bad form. But I heard of a Gecko profile in Nomad, I think? Antenocitis Workshop's Komodo battlesuits, imho, would be poifect for those, no?

Don't get me wrong that's such a cool miniature, but I'm not sure how well suited it is to a Gecko. From the description it said they are used on ships and the like, almost like a halfway to a HI or something. And, I can't seem to find the rules for it right now, but if my memory serves me correctly, aren't they very fast moving and agile (perhaps something more like a Sphynx comes to mind?)

I think it's fine for a stand in with minimal effort but I always imagined them more like this:

Competition update.
I was originally shooting to get the competition live today(one year wince the first one) but we are going to delay that very slightly now. Since Adepticon will be occupying a lot of people's attention right now the competition will go live after it has passed.

I won't give a specific date as of yet but it'll be soon.


I hope you're all excited and considering what you might be able to enter. And to those of you heading off to Adepticon, have fun you lucky gits! I'll post an update on this or something else again soon.

No really, it's Dak policy to keep it underwraps until it goes live so no one has an edge. All I can really say is it'll be after Adepticon with a little breathing space to let the buzz die down.

Haha yeh! Adepticon, my life, yaks life, the sponsors lives, it's been a bit hectic! Although I can't give you a date or any details I wouldn't be starting any huge projects any time soon if I was going to enter. Hopefully it'll be worth the wait, an exciting theme with lots of scope for creativity and a sweet prize pot!

About time the sticky thread gets a make over methinks. Best that I hear what you lot think first though. I've got a few ideas to run by you but other ideas are very welcome.

What do you think of changing the subject to 'Would you like to know more?' I think it's still pretty descriptive for anyone seeking it out and it's a nice thematic nod.

I'm torn as to whether I should dump the videos into a seperate thread and add a link. On one hand I think a lot of people get use out of them but on the other it makes the thread a little heavy instead of purposing it as a hyperlink map/content page. Thoughts?

I think from experience most of the new guys come through via that thread but they still have a lot of questions, often the same ones. I'm pro putting in a FAQ to answer the common ones, short, straight to the point answers with links would be good. If you agree with that, should it be in a seperate thread with a link or in the OP?

New links are very welcome at this stage too!

I think it'd be okay to say that you should expect the Painting Contest in very early June. Obviously you can't prepare for it but you can keep your diaries open! Book some painting time now folks!

I'm truly sorry to keep you all waiting so long, it's just been difficult on all fronts this time. If we do it again it'll be better prepared and go smoother.

In other news, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of opinions on the Beginners Sticky changes. I'd rather not go in blind and ruin it but I guess it's reversible. If there is absolutely no input I'll go with my gut and then ask for feedback.

Also, I haven't seen Revenant Reiko around in a while. If he is out of action is there anyone who'd like to pitch in and help keep his project going?
If that doesn't suit you but you have a bit of spare time there are another couple of things that you could do to help out.

I'm glad you said that as I designed it that way on purpose. I wanted to give entrants as much reign as I could this time.

Excellent news! I'm also interested to see how many people use one model compared to those who use two.

A battle diorama perhaps? Or a model sneaking behind another in an attempt to assassinate him. Possibilities are endless!
