at one point we ended up with 35 diamonds. Then i made everyone in our little clan picks and swords and we're down to 20. I'm willing to put ALL my suits of armor on your little bet, and i have quite a few, diamond and iron!

Minecraft is the kind of game where you decide to play a bit before lunch and only snap out of the diamond-enduced trance a week later after you collapse because you forgot to eat.

I've been looking for a solution to my java problem and havent found anything in over a week. Every time I try ti run Minecraft a message pops up saying "Could not create the Java virtual machine"
I've reinstalled Java a dozen times and I have planty of free memory (over 2GB). Any ideas because I would love to get in on this when I'm done building my Terraria palace.

Personally I'd love a form of "Triggerable" Invasion.
Warn everyone about it so they can build to defend, or just flee to a sanctuary, then unleash an orkish horde. Gives you things for inventive traps to dismember/suffocate/crush/lava.

how about I travel to around 2,000x 2,000z, dig around until I find a dungeon, and then dig out the area, making a castle-ish place and unleash the mobs?
though I fear one every 30 seconds or whatever would be kind of easy

Just make a mob farm...without the killing part.
I've seen some that can get 160+ items per minute. That should keep you plenty busy.

that would be cool. I'll just make a huge tower underground pitch black, the castle fairly weak (maybe a frontal breach) and limited arrows (half a stack or so each). I also like the idea of a war area, with trenches and a castle, each side. will be small, but maybe for around 3vs3 games?
Logged in after the reset and now in some random unexplored cave with lots of crap I was carrying back to my house as I was in my mine at the time.
I'd explore but I ran out of torches and have 2 hearts left...
Edit: Managed to escape by running up as high as I could past the creeps, then found a shaft with running water which luckily led out to the surface. A little while later found my house so all good.

If *notch forbid* the server dies/goes down for a few days, I might actually learn how to get MODs, and add yogbox.
I thought I might wake this thread up a bit, it seems to have gone to sleep.
the manor is coming along well, but we have a long way to go yet. Done around 1/8 of it and it's been around 2 weeks, with around 2 people working on it on average (earlier was 5, morning was 1, varies wildly), which gives you an idea of how much there is to do. we are also looking forward to making the basements, as under the manor is the biggest mob spawner on the server, with a 100x150 pitch black area below. and here's the yogscast aether MOD spotlight:
MEN! (and women)
not since wolf's boat was burnt down have I seen such an assemblage of heroes. Never before have I seen so many geared for war. I say that:
n0t_u wrote:Yeh it was fun. Should set up a big dungeon thing sometime to do it again.
maybe we should just make a HUGE cobblestone thing far away, make it pitch black, and try to get to the other side.
we have achieved a great victory today over the foul mobs of the deep, and would like to boast a few things-
after a full push straight through the area, I only lost half an armour sign, and only needed to use one item of food.
I heard only three creeper blasts, one of which was led into the water beforehand.
5 people- Iustis, Biccat, RaptorsTallon, Corpses and me ventured out.
5 people returned.
we may have been over prepared, but I have full faith in the olde style of warfare- Overkill is the best type of kill.
I might load a dungeon-searching texture pack and try find one far away, then make an underground castle place next to it.
maybe have a mission for someone to climb over blocks and stuff to get to the mob spawner and plant torches by it.
It'll happen after the manor though, so not for a while.
I wish admins could spawn skeleton/spider/zombie spawners
Oh yeah and there's this not-so vanilla server a friend made, with flying allowed, and some MODs will be loaded (I'm asking for better than wolves and the plane MOD)

He made me an op, and the seed is really mountainous...
found a hill like 10 blocks of sky level...
I used like 10 stacks of TNT making it into a volcano, and tomorrow I will terraform the crater and make lava pour down the sides.
Just a few words about yogbox, yes it does come with modloader but the mod that edits how you cut down trees (destroy one block and all the ones above it come down to) is buggy, it tries to work in multiplayer. So you destroy the bottom block and all the ones above it come down but they dont drop anything and respawn in about 10 seconds making it faster to use your fist than an axe in multiplayer.
I found an island floating in the middle of the sky, is that normal?
Either way, I built a bridge to it, honeycombed the thing, surrounded it with a wall, put cacti on top of the wall, put torches all over the place, and then destroyed the bridge. I swim up a waterfall to get there. In my experience, it's about as safe as safe gets.
Just one question: Monsters aren't smart enough to swim up a waterfall, right?
monsters aren't smart enough to swim up a waterfall
however when in water they will constantly try to jump out of it, so sometimes monsters will find their way to the top.
to be sure, you want to make the top of the waterfall inside a hillside and make your exit somewhere along the length of it.
also, ive been out, experimenting with industrialcraft + pipes for some really fun automatic cobblers
I think they look cool. Would be interesting if they picked up and moved blocks, though better if they were just an annoyance and placed stuff like sand or dirt randomly.
hey guys, I just remembered that I have two zombie spawners like 50 blocks apart- could link the two and build a small castle thing beside, as well as a HUGE mob spawner with water flowing out instead of going into a lava guillotine.
shrike wrote:hey guys, I just remembered that I have two zombie spawners like 50 blocks apart- could link the two and build a small castle thing beside, as well as a HUGE mob spawner with water flowing out instead of going into a lava guillotine.
Do it. Sounds like great fun, and a way to get items easily.
Also, I have noticed that alot of mobs have been spawning inside the manor recently. I have found: A Spider on the roof A Zombie in the upstairs hallway A Skeleton in the master bedroom and a Creeper in the lobby
All have been removed safely with no damage, but we do need to improve the lighting.
All have been removed safely with no damage, but we do need to improve the lighting.
Ive found with the castle that mobs spawn by chunk, and will spawn in lighter areas if they have no where to spawn anywhere in loaded chunks
for this reason I filled the castle with hollow walls and unlit chambers to give the mobs somewhere to spawn where they won't cause any problems.
Sorry, the answer is still no and probably always will be. If you want to play with a MOD, play SSP or find a server with that MOD installed. There are plenty of servers out there.
Placing MODs on the Dakka server is unfair on those who want to play on the server but don't want to have to install MODs to continue playing.
The second server was simply a test server for Lego to adjust settings on see if he could improve the reliability of the server.
Since 1.6 (and the nether update) CPU and Memory usage of the Minecraft code is through the roof. It is no longer feasible to run two Minecraft servers on the same server. They will bog each other down. Also don't forget that running Minecraft is not the primary purpose of the server. The minecraft server is a luxury, not a Dakka service.
As I said before, you do have a choice, there are other servers out there, and SSP will always support any MODs you want to play with.

An area for Clay Soldiering would be cool.
Already devising an army list sort of thing for them for organised games:
Clay Soldier - 1pt
Upgrades:
Stick - 1pt
Sharpened Stick - 2pts
Armour - 1pt
Reinforced Armour - 2pts
Extra Health - 1pt
Glow in the Dark - Free
Redstone Dust - 1pt
Slimeball - 1pt
Gunpowder - 5pts - Limited to 1 soldier for every 10pts in the army.
Horse - 3pts
One Clay Soldier may be upgraded to a King for 5pts. The King may not have gunpowder.
So a 50pt battle could be:
50 Soldiers
OR
25 Soldiers with Sticks
OR
16 Soldiers with Sharpened Stick + A Soldier with a stick.
Etc. Etc.
Then there could be tournaments in different point ranges.
To try and stop cheating, each side has a chest which the referee places the armies into (so if you bought 5 soldiers wth gunpowder, you'll find 5 clay soldiers and 5 gunpowder in your chest) and can be independantly verified before the fight if need be. Gunpowder is easy to find out by counting the explosions, others may be more difficult; but if you cheat, you're only cheating yourself... and your opponent... ¬.¬
mods would/will be based on how much lag they create
Instead of gimmicky things like clay soldiers I was thinking mods that are reasonably simple but create fundamental changes in how minecraft works, like some redstone mods, some simple machinery mods, the aether, ect.
with pending things like pipes that would be really cool (imho) but may be too laggy.

Just thought I'd throw in a yard stick to their pricing plans. The Dakka Minecraft server runs with a 2048MB RAM limit. We regularly get "Out of memory" crashes. The $14.99 package they offer lists the available RAM as 512MB. Until Notch tidies up the Minecraft code, 512MB RAM will not go very far. However they do offer a 7 day money back guarantee, so there's no harm in trying I suppose.
I think the dakka crashes are due to it running other things honestly.
A friend of mine used to run a server off of his desktop without horrible results, I still think there's bad calls or something going on the dakka server that causes our instability
Grundz wrote:I think the dakka crashes are due to it running other things honestly.

yeah, my friend has a server off a 4GB RAM laptop in switzerland and it works with MODs, internationally, next to no lag and no crashes.

I'd likely get rid of the NPC village mod for possible lag issues and npc's getting out of control. and keep most of the rest, starting with wolves then adding them in one at a time until I run into a problem.

so question, what is the program that they use in yogsbox videos with the GUI where you can mess around and spawn stuff in game?
Many public kiosks won't allow you to plug in thumb drives as they can be a source of viruses and other nasty things. I'm actually surprised a public library has computers capable of running Minecraft at all!
Finished plans for a new, more efficient cobbler, this time (in single player at least) it can outpace a diamond pick with only 2 cobble sources (right now it uses 6), using a combination of the current detection system and a piston clock it should feed the block within 2 ticks of it being created, and without the huge stack of repeaters it should be less laggy and prone to failure as well
will be ripping out the old cobbler in a few days probably to replace it with this one.

Some good info about the new mob, seems like quite a good, and dangerous, addition.
Spoiler:
Endermen.....
Three meters tall, and having the ability to move blocks, as well as only attacking when you look at them, and then look away. To top it all off, they teleport.
If he does what he said, the think with the looking at them and stuff, that will be creepy, allthough, the fact i can have them on screen and not look at them is cool, but i want to know what sort of damage it can do, and whether it can teleport into a locked house.
I don't know, the whole point of those was that you never, ever saw them move (until the second time they appeared, where the brilliant idea was ruined forever). These you can quite easily, you just can't hover the aiming reticle over them.
Meh, the new mob would be fantastic in a surival horror game but what would it really add to the enjoyment of building in minecraft?
Zombies, spider, skeletons and creepers keep you on your toes but aren't that hard to kill whereas this mob seems to pretty much destroy you if you look at it.

kind of, it and a skeleton were in a hole, and I had next to no health so I didn't want to go and punch them, so I just planted TNT there. I was going to fill it in but then I got chased by around 3 zombies, two skeletons and two spiders, running round BBL while he did something-or-other rearranging chests inside, with me only having time to type "help", with him still standing inside going "what?", and when he finishes with the chests he runs through a portal, past me and the following mobs, so I just give up and run through the portal too. He DC's and I get bored, go home to brandywine and later DC.
I was putting ALL my wealth from the whole game away, including your pay

Nah, I took a trip into the brandywine mine and found a bunch of goodies, my laptop's busted, I'm busy with the manor when I get back on and it seems whenever we are doing anything together we end up having a b**ch fight.
Don't worry Dakka, my return will be *soon*, likely sometime around my birthday...

you use lava and water to create cobblestone to feed the system.
Well, you see, I followed this instructional awhile back using the old piston mod, but now that pistons are actually ingame... Going to have to see if the method still works...
There you go, keep in mind this is from 1.4, so I guess i'm going to have to test Notch's pistons.
It will work with the current in game pistons. The only difference I've seen is they don't launch stuff like players, NPCs, lit TNT and items; just pushing them one space.
is there a list of what blocks can be moved by pistons? id really like to make some hidden sandstone doors and blast proof obsidian doors as well as some nice glass doors.

Everything except: Obsidian, Bedrock, and anything with extra data (tile entities).
Blocks with extra data would be note blocks, extended pistons, mob spawners, and the like.
Instead of pulling up random planks from the manor's first floor and replacing them with cobble (or not at all), can people please use the ample supply of trees outside the manor's front entrance? Same goes for anything caused by creeper asplosions.
If possible, please lead any creepers onto the plank floor and away from any carpet; the renewable trees (that must be replanted when cut down) can be harvested to replace planks, but wool isn't nearly as available.

I made the hole to prevent you from coming up! Gorsh...
Anyway, I will be donating about three stacks of wood to the manor for penitence.
I was making a general comment about the creepers, the main issue were the random holes and how the gravel staircase up from the ground floor to the first floor was blocked by cobble.

The nether railway now stretches from Endsville to the Sanctuary, stopping at Brandywine along the way. The tunnel to the museum is also complete, but I'm all out of gold and iron for now. If anyone wants to finish up connecting the sanctuary to the museum, please feel free.
Look for places that appear to be completely empty all around. Next time you're online, get someone to give you a tour, or just head out in one direction until you find somewhere spacious and unoccupied.
Most places that are taken should have signs saying who they belong to, but check all around because you may not know if you're approaching someone's place from the front or rear.

On there you can see lots of empty plots of land where you can build. The south west and north (past the Manor) are largely unpopulated.
Alright, why the feth is there a gaping big hole in the entrance hall and why didn't anyone tell me?
Owed to the manor for repairs:
1 Stack of Planks (to cover wall and door repairs + more for not owning up)
Quarter of a stack of Red Wool
Quarter of a stack of Blue Wool
The wool is the most important, because it takes fething ages to get it; especially the red and blue because roses are few and far between and require bonemeal, and blue is in limited supply deep underground.
Whoever did it can own up, but as long as I find the repair materials in one of the entrance hall chests before Friday, I won't care.
Okay, who the ---- trapped my house. Didn't notice that the wood wall in front of my obsidian had been replaced. stepped on it, but got far enough away that it didn't affect me.
Just annoyed because it's going to take me about 3 hours to replace all the stuff lost, wool is hard to come by.
Avatar, the Manor entrance (assuming you mean the Manor) was fine on Saturday night (well Sunday morning really - it was 1am) when I went round it with Fireshade. But I left him there so he may know if a creeper turned up later.
Docta, what do you mean trapped your house? (and which place is your house?) If someone's been planting traps I can try to track them down. When was the last time it was fine (not trapped)?
