Viktor von Domm wrote:lol...shrike i think that is a perfect way^^ but hey... if you are then a riveteer, your threads will be "exalted" too^^
as a matter of fact... about the business of riveting... today marked a new era of riveting... now i have masterd shaso´s aproved and tested to perfection methode of glueriveting!!!
i hereby present to you the first chapel of the church of rivbeting:
(note it is still majorly in WIP stages but the general idea and direction is showing through....)
and as it is already st. valentines day in some parts of the earth...my wife and me exchanged some valentines presents... i got a box of pyramid cake pieces...and some tupperwear small boxes...the initial one was also filled with smarties...and after the kids and us emptied the sweets into our bellies this slogan^^ was found:
which reads in denglish (german/english mix) "I niet you" a pun as it could be read i need you...but the pun lies on the NIETE= Rivets... so i guess my wife accepts my "interest" in rivtes^^
and because as i like to bring forth some hints and tips for making rivtes for new possible rivetsaddicted... i hereby show a bit of my trade... i present...the rivetmaker:
just an xacto knife handle with a needle instead of a knife... not really rocket science, but someone has to think about tools and i do that from time to time...and the thingy works like a charm when it comes to my cardboard rivets...
cheers, vik
What will the overall architecture of this Steam church be? will it be a simple Tudor "timberframe made in steels" or will it be Imperial Gothic (Imperial City series)
and will you include 'steam organ' too?
church affilations? is it belongs to Ecclessiarchy or Admech?

I can't quite decide between these two:

I would go the second as well, not that I don't like the first one I just think for a sniper it would work better …….. and the hood pulled up but not covering the sculpt … obviously
Well, thinking of my heavily-augmented space marine commander, which do you think?
Spoiler:
or
I think the ork has more character, but the raven guard is my main army.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I like the second one as well, providing it has a hood... also the spiked helmet is reminiscent of... you know, the scuffle between us 70 years back ^^
Thanks for the input LDD and Shrike! I think I'll go that way. And I OBVIOUSLY won't cover up too much of the sculpt! When done I might have it on my webstore as an example of a possible conversion...maybe.
As for the er..."scuffle", I know, but it seams to be a popular theme for conversions, (especially for Nurgle) and I thought I'd just put it out there for that purpose...They will hopefully be available on my webstore in the "not too far flung" future.
And @ Max, what's wrong with chaos? Make a Chaos Enginseer!
mxwllmdr wrote:Wow, I am going to have to give some serious thought to my Rivet-Ar. I can honestly say i am at a loss. I have only ever played Chaos. Any ideas guys?
Mine was either an Ork or a chaos renegade, so go with it ….. it's all good
Wow, must have missed a few days, just had to sift through pages of stuff to get here
Umm, damn, already forgotten what I've seen. Let's see...a land raider, steampunky and lego-y (it is so a word). Very cool.
Er, a teddy bear? No, that's not right....a church - always get those two confused Church is looking sweet so far. Now you need to get Dave and Galorn to cast up some wall pieces to make a cathedral
Mech arm and body, they were cool, very nice. Not convinced by those legs with it though, I too think tracks would be a better option for him. I actually thought he was going to get those tracks you made...which were sweet as. They were great man
That's all I can remember officer, it was all a bit of a blur really..
As for being offered the 'Copper Rivet', what can I say.
It's tempting to qoute Marx (Groucho, not Karl), but seeing as it's a fine band of Dakkanauts extending the invitation, how can I refuse.
Although, as for being extraordinary, I think orky riveting is more along the lines of 'like wot dey does, only 'arder an' ruffer'
so first things first... about the church... lone cat:
the organ idea... i think that is a sweet idea... i will try to come up with a try-it piece for that one... as for the church... it is not associated in any kind to the GW warhammer universe for my part... it more lends some ideas and items from this world... but i see it way more generic... steampowered and grimy and bulky constructions and their constructionworkers that form a cargocult society around the craft of riveting metalworks... like the freemasons...but not with the evil scheming behin it all... just building things for a better world... thats the general feel behind the whole thing...at least on my part... i bet there is lots of variaty for all members...each has his own vision of the riveteers...
to be honest i havent decided yet if the exterior of the church will ever be seen at all... for now it rolls as a sort of cellar chuzrch in my mind... maybe i will construct something around the current structure... it is rather a dio for me than a true terrain piece...
at dave... reading all your heated up reactions... mate i want to buy you a beer and have that discussion anew... that one is sucha depressing theme it is best done not being sober too much...! i meet you at each part of your discription of your position! thank goods there are honest peeps out there to show there are real persons still alive...one day everything will be washed away is what i am hopeing for...
at ovion...well that tarantulla walker...yep that would make an excellent titan class walker... lots of firepower to be carried on that one...and i have just looked up...you are all in for the sleekness of elves and fishes^^ (just joking here^^) which meens rivets would be pretty unused on these...th i can´t help but think that a nice devilfish would look million times better with a decent riveting pattern over the hide...^^
at shrike... well i had some rather disturbing research moments after trying to figure out who´s that new babyface you are wearing... urgh...well so be it^^ personally i am not that into any rules or codecies of GW so i can´t really tell what has made him in to this most hated/loved person here... but so be it...again..^^
as for your idea to convert a ravenguard... the only thing i could perhaps live with would be a termy... witha cadian head... all converted to a look like he would be a heavy lifter... after all a termy mini has pistons to be seen and all that techstuff... the tactical marine armor looks too streamlined to actually be a convincing riveteer... by personal taste here tho... as for the ork...well that is a very good mockup you showed and i think it would be great that way... adds color to the league... and even tho LDD also makes a unique brainy ork... i think yours could be differently different to his...
at jake...er...rivet-ars...wasn´t that even affected by the swear filter???°.° ^^
well i like your sniper idea for a rivet-ar character... this is a very nice one...i think the best wouold be to use the first choice head and get rid for that one of the pickelhauben look... hood sounds great... like an eldar ranger then^^ do him eiter kneeling or maybe even in a scenic bigger base...
at max... why not chaos... of course it is an odd choice liek going ork but hoenstly... it is a society of riveters that have the common link of making crafted items held together by rivets... so i wouldn´t judge you for using a costy forgeworld mini to be converted into a riveteer^^... do as you seem fitting... you all are in the leage because you already showed the right kind of spirit^^ ...see? instant win^^
at monkey...glad you could squeeze your memebrship into your tight schedule^^ yep... this thread tends to grow like weeds^^ but it blooms some very beasutifal petals from now and then^^
oh and as for weeds... if you had refused...well we would have pestered you quite hard^^...

vik- I'll go for the ork, then ^^
and mine I feel will be less "put that there" and more "I'll put that there" (AKA more hands-on).
so guys, it seems we are all making models for the league, then.
what will Mr von Domm be doing then for his model?
I rather fancy a cane/monocle/pocket watch/tailcoat kind of theme- after all, he will be the lord of rivets ^^

Right, I was just joking! Just wanted to add some humor into the thread! There has been no talk of "other things"!

that was the one that really stuck out for me, yeah ^^
and as I said, inspiration ^^ I know you too well to expect you to just go and buy one I think the "slash" look was what GW was going for when they made the base model of the ork- long black hair (in the picture), top hat, guitar...
What thing are you referring to ? That thing or the other thing ? I was thinking can you tell me what thing actually stands for as I don't have a friggin clue what the hell thing is ……. or do you mean that the Rivet league is actually a secret society with plans of global domination dammmmm Sorry did it again, it's not really honestly

Vik - you might want to add some size tags to your sig.
Maybe YOUR QUOTES HERE
That or 8, but it's cutting off your rivet league image as is (I inserted bold tags in the middle of the size tags so it'll show )
I am prepared for a long and intense rivet session with our latest brother LDD, I brought the "kit" for a truly rivetting experience, now where to begin?
Actually Vik is asleep, i am the one with the kit out and the Mega-Rivet-300! But Vik usually approves of all things by me anyway. So now, back to business, time for the rivetting of LDD's life!
at jake...er...rivet-ars...wasn´t that even affected by the swear filter???°.° ^^
well i like your sniper idea for a rivet-ar character... this is a very nice one...i think the best wouold be to use the first choice head and get rid for that one of the pickelhauben
I was referring to VIk's Pickelhauben remark which in turn referred to Jakes post, evoking as it does the 'scuffle' aforementioned.........
I must say, though, I like the first option, but the deaths cowl sounds good too.....
As far as flashing LDD's life in front of him for spilling some non-existant =][_= beans, well, it will all out in the wash anyway, now won't it?
Interesting thing I learned while watching the Westminster dog show on tv, Quite a few ancestral European breeds of farm, hunting, and working dogs were thought to actually be EXTINCT after the afforementioned scuffle. Thankfully regular soldiers and sailors from all over the world found these dogs and brought home "adam" and "eve" dogs, and today several of those breeds are thriving.

Yes LDD, you are an initiate brother still, and you must learn to keep your tongue at times. Perhaps a rivet in your left buttock will remind you of your sin every time you sit on it??
I need to get back to my riveting duties, so that i may become worthy in the eyes of the church. Currently my riveter has been packed away and i am being tortured *cough* I mean visited by my in-laws. I will get back to my riveting duties as soon as possible so that I may be welcomed into the fold.
I have a good idea about a Rivetar, but I need to keep on the Straight and Riveted for now and complete my riveting duties. Blessed be the Rivits, may they hold true.
I think my computer is trying to tell me something... the only site that works for me is dakka- can't get onto youtube, photobucket, steam, facebook, google- just dakka.

Dave, I would be looking for a custom M16A1 if conversion proved to be too hard on the grease gun he is holding.....
Yeah, you're right, Vik, but both are out of context to the Vietnam era feel in the rest of the model. I was actually thinking of updating the weaponary to 40K bits anyway.
INcidentally I found fourteen of that exact gun in a weapons stash in Afghanistan and was lucky enough to get to put many hundreds of rounds downrange from one of them.. What a phenomenal feeling, boys, seriously...........

did you were able to shoot with the tommy or the grease gun? i think either way... it must have felt like being capone^^

Hey Vik, i used to own a G3? it was all blacked, and was 7.62mmx45, tight action but had to get car parts so I could work, and then saw it's price doubled so I couldn't get it back.
AK's are about the same, 7.62mm if the 47 model, but the AK-74 is 5.45mm going for the M-16/M-4 method of one wounded+2 to carry him=3 men out of the area concept.
at 2500... yeah... i DL your cathedral earlier on as you posted it on your thread... and yepppers...that would make an excellent church of riveters^^ but currently i couldn´t do that in a way that would be respectful enough to your hard design work!^^
at shrike... did i get that right? the AA-12 is of russian design...and that vid totally sold me on that gun... if i ver look out for one multipurpose gun it is definatly this one^^...and the part where he told us that the AA doesnt need cleaning... boy... i hated cleaning back in my service days...

as for the G3 it looked like authority to me... that gun sure had lots of it...tho it is very ugly as gunoutfits can be... mine was the green plastic combo... i guess a complete black one would be quite interesting tho... and...??? car parts??? lol...didn´t knew that^^

at hazzer... had a look at your trukk... but before i hand out the membership card... i want to see some other ayes from the league... after all it is not a one man one vote dictatorship...well actually it is... my vote and i am da man^^ but hey i feel generous today...^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:well RW... stop promising.....start DELIVERING^^... it can be so fast.... see case LDD
hey i need to waite untill i get exactly what i need to start making my scratch built tanks! then i can try.. but anyway not today, its the fathers birthday
at shrike... see?! thats what you get for being a smart boy!!! and don´t you dare getting clever on me boy either...i know that one too! i wasn´t born yesterday!
at RW...well i think that is a good excuse...but be warned... we could easily access the data needed to crosscheck if it is the birthday for real! ...er...how do i get out of that crappy dictator voice??? *bumps head against the desk...* ahhh nw that feels better... by the way RW... you could start with cardboard... plastic card sure makes many things easier...but cardboard is your friend for life...well up until floods or rain or fire... it just want to hug you and make cool things with ya^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:at shrike... see?! thats what you get for being a smart boy!!! and don´t you dare getting clever on me boy either...i know that one too! i wasn´t born yesterday!
But when I act like a stupid boy I get cuffed too :(
well the cardboard is great, but im trying to take some of what Dimetry100 did, but not as full on as that, just cutting up a battle tank, modifying it and such..
at shrike... that IS the point exactly...it is called e.d.u.c.a.t.i.o.n. there wouldn´t be a point if one could win it...earning is more like it......doh...now i feel like such a jerk...
i wonder what happened to dimetry100... his work was excellent and now he is simply lost?... and yeah, if you have planned something like his stuff... plastic is the only chance...

@ all riveteers
i want to use some LOTR UH models as henchmen. now to 40k-ify i wanted to add rivets to the shileds and armour. would this work? and what is the best way to make those kind of rivets?
but i gotta ask in return...what does UH stand for (urukhai??) a pic might help to better understand what and how you want to convert them... but i have seen other peeps here at dakka use LOTR minis for 40k purposes... one did use them as eldar rangers... another one i think made from the same mini a battle sister... so i think this could be quiet a good idea! by the way if the uruks are right... i also have often thought to make less funny and more menacing 40k orks out of LOTR orks...
i like the idea... but you have to keep in mind the scale difference... as for the mutant issue...well when someone uses the term...years and years of reading X-men comics kick into gear... so there is little of if any rule to what a mutie should/would look like... so i think this flock of mutants might be just these minis...besides... the IOM is so big...there is no telling what size differencies might exist... so too...these could count as humans...just slightly smaller ones...and....everything can work as all depends on your fellow gamer...if he wants to play with you...everything is all right...
and mordain... cool flat... but you need a cleaning woman for that place... i woulndae wield a duster in that apartment...but i probably spend ages in the shower...all that copper is just tasty as hell! but of curse it lacks a certain amount of rivets...
at LDD...actually the airship is still as the last pictures showed it, but it is more like a dead weight now...one day...^^
not today... maybe tomorrow but more likley on monday... weekend is full of birthday of my now six year old son felix...
today we wnet to a model train exhibition...an ongoing one... it´s called loxx... they quite enjoyed it...but now that i am a modeler and painter myself i can´t help thinking how crappy these guys work...and mostly they just use pre fabricated stuff... that really bothers me... they had some funny lil scenes on the table, mind you, but for me the overall look was pretty boring...
tomorrow we will have some friends for breakfast at our apartment...and after that it is still unknown what will happen afterwards...

and its not the size that is odd, its the fact that LoTR models are sculpted to more realistic proportions, making the body look and feel, really odd side by side
i like it but i am currently at a loss how to decode it into a meme... you have to keep in mind that has the be translated and than brought back into an english meme^^ but please share the explanation with us...^^
at anvil... well it is that english loss for understanding about the german sexes in the language^^ as your sentece mkes my son into a doughter^^ ...ihr...means her^^
and the geheisst ...that is a bit old speak^^ but i got the meaning^^ ...by the way... i still have nothing new on the rivetto build...hope i find some time next week... i want to send it to you by the end of the week at least!
at RW... thank you sir!!^^
at fatty... same to you good sir^^ and for now it was quite nice^^ maybe i show you some pics of the exhebition...
at LDD... thanks...and i couldn´t have put it any better...^^ LOL
usually that hunting style goes side by side with a bit put unawares into the oven...*nudge, nudge, nudge*
anyways... i have finally some updates to share...if someone might be interested^^
so... i revisted the idea to mount the medich^^ on the tracks... i had to do a clever trick...well sort of...^^ as the arm prooved to be an obstacle... so i just truned it around and now it is mounted...also a bit beneath... shows the first lick of paint on the church... mind you it is only primed with cheap brown... i imagine the church to be not really in a neat condition...so plenty of rusty streaks...and so on...
Soory vik, but is cheep brown a coulor or do you mean cheep as chips brown? I'm liking the robot thing, soz can't rember what its ment to be! But more rivets!!!
good work as usual, and for the rusty effect (if you're using GW paints) what I like to do is a drybrush of boltgun metal (dark silver), a lighter drybrush of tin bitz (metallic brown), and then a wash of devlan mud (brown)- IMO it gives a nice rusty effect to metal surfaces.
i need to get me that tin bitz soon... it is always lacking in my palette... need one darker metal color...as i used the brown as a basecoat it will already have lots of scratches in brown all over... with boltgun and tin i think this could be a good effect...of course adding:
always adds cream to any painting^^
at fatty
...now.... where would be the point to add rivets to a cardboardlooking structure? lol
lol...now i get you^^ but my cardboard i use is usually grey so i didn´t get it in the frist time^^ lol... of course due to the flash it is now a bit lighter in color...maybe i get some first true painting done on that piece tomorrow...
Medic is looking the bomb Nice job and works well with the tracks but needs more rivets brother more rivets
The church does look a little cardboard at the moment I have to agree but I am sure it is early days and will be turned into coolness shortly ……. if not you will be in for a good riveting now who has the gun …….
and one of my english teachers used to name these pronouns the lil "scheissdingers" lol... it is so easy to get them wrong...and in certain parts of my hometown...they can´t use them right either^^
as for the piggy.... i think you mean to ask if he had a lucky day? i guess so^^
That's what I was asking. I'm not that up on modern German sayings and idioms, though. Also, I'm using a Wuerterbuch that's probably about 50-60 jahre alt, so there is that, too.
i too like the watchmen... tho i got that quote from my favorite novel...: the nightwatch...from the author terry pratchett... i´ve read next to everything from him... and in his book the maincharacter uses this quote for his own need... on the question "who watches the watchmen" he replies...we watch us ourselves...and in one book he answers to this question...me...all the time... me...
this version i have "instilled" into my children... they now instantly reply on that phrase with "me"^^
and so...you are a duck? lol...
for me it was always je ne sais pas et puis t'egal...
I love the Terry Pratchett novels as well, especially the guard ones. Commander Vimes is awesome
Yes the Tattoo is “no reliance can be placed upon appearance” so yes “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.
When I previously worked as a doorman (Bouncer) I used to have a shaved head and a goatee beard. People used to cross the road to avoid me. I am not a big thug honest, lol I play with toy soldiers FFS lol. It’s a façade that I put on for the job. And at the time that involved the hair cut. This time round I have slightly longer hair (although I still have a beard, it just covers more of my face grr)
like vimes in one novel thinks:... less hair to comb...more face to be washed^^
have you ever faced someone that wanted to make a fuzz simply because he thought of you as a trophy because you seem so strong? i have heard that often women now are bouncers so to avoid this manly behavior to go against tough odds to proove themselves...
Yes you do have people think about trying it on, but normally they are very drunk. But then I have had people come outright and say it (in my best Irish accent) You’re a big guy, I want to fight you, come on lets have a fight. How would you punch me?”
I replied with, “no its all right thanks” lol
The trouble is it can be the women that are worse than the men, I have seen women take off their stiletto heels and hit men with them, as they cower under their arms, not wanting to hurt them. But Yes having female staff can help counter the macho bravado, but it also helps if you work a venue where you have to search everyone. As a man I can not do a pat down search of a woman.
well... i have long left disco times behind...and it seems it was for the better... i am priding myself not ever seen a woman fight wth her stilettos...ouch... and yep... sometimes women can even be more furious...literally...
of course you need to have staff that can search everyone... if not the girls carry the armory for a serious fight...
and this is what takes up your valuable time for making things with rivets??? this...research for a lack of a better word...
no wonder you islanders had nearly lost the war... see... if you had only tried a little harder you would have lost for sure...like us...^^
Automatically Appended Next Post: wellllllll....one thin g you have to say... some of the chicks actually didn´t look too shabby... but the er... for a lack of a better word ...guys... sorry fatty...^^

Ooh, that looks great for pipework ^^ nice find, that ^^ the goggled look is fairly recognisable, but I think the exhaust (unless incomplete) doesn't look it... maybe if it was hollow/had holes drilled into it?
I'm loving the hydraulics on the servo arm! (but that might just be because you took my advice )
Tracks look great as well!
I'm not sure about the holes directly in the exhaust pipe, but perhaps a heat shield would help with the image (and that would have some holes in it )
Not to rain on your parade, but I'm not sold on the goggles idea from a fluff perspective. He's a robot, right? So wouldn't he have enhanced optics instead of additional external goggles?
There, I made an appearance. Happy? (Read: Sorry I've been absent from your thread)
at monkey lol....yeah thats advertisment for you... didn´t even realize that one... even tho i saw the contens...buggers...the lot of´em^^

appearance might be deceiving... lol... nice to have you here^^
heatshield... i think i need a bit of visual help here as to how i should do that...and yes, your insisting of properlooking hydraulics sure made me do it that way^^...
the goggles are more of a comical element all rivettos show... so in essence not needed but just for the look of the thing...after all the head should somehow deliver that doc- looking feel to him...

Here is a picture of an exhaust heatshield:
What about this for Medich instead of googles? I'm not actually sure what that forehead thing is, but it's stereotypical doctor, right?
I honestly can't think of anything that rhymes with 5 or johnny to do with rivets or vik I'll see if I can't think of something by the time I get home at about 5:30...
shrike wrote:I honestly can't think of anything that rhymes with 5 or johnny to do with rivets or vik I'll see if I can't think of something by the time I get home at about 5:30...
at shrike...yup, curved mirror..outdated today thanks to LED lights...makes everything brighter and smaller...
at LDD yep, looks a bit like johnny 5 for me too...tho i have to admit i never thought of him for inspiration^^ and that pope...lol...that look on his face... i think it IS the pope...
tho...has anyone noticed yet the serious lack of rivets on johnny five?...
Hey Guys! Been out of the loop for a while. Been to a conference for work, and a mad bout of cleaning our house to get it realy for viewing, so we can sell it. I didn't read all of the posts since last Wednesday, I may go back and see if there is anything important to read at some point, but I don't think I'll have much free time today. :(
Anyway, I did see that others are interested in joining the illustrious ranks of the League....The more the merrier, as long as they show a passion for rivets...but they should be appropriate in my opinion...For example, crisp clean rivets for IG, rusty and corroded for Chaos, and Orks should have rough, overly large and mis-matched rivets and bolts and such...But again, that is my opinion, and I feel that El Vik will hold new recruits to a similar standard, and if he says they're in, I will accept that.
Awesome! This looks great!
The girl looks like she's plotting the boy's murder....
Have you ever spotted a bit that would make your project perfect? Flanged pipe fittings dood! That's like finding a perfect meltagun bit in a cheap dollar store toy! You'd go buy them all up too if you were short on meltaguns
That's funny because I used to try to hide it when I'm on here, not because I'm doing anything wrong...I just don't want to have to explain what we're talking about! For a while she thought I was cheating on her because I would minimize the screen when she walked in the room.
BIG mistake!
After that, when she asks what I'm doing I just tell her, "it has to do with my little army men." and since she could care less about that, she walks away.

I tend to keep dakka open because I tend to hide it more when I'm on youtube/facebook/minecraft multiplayer because you never know when a wild sex-joke might appear
