A friend of mine is making a Nid army where most models (that are large enough) is fighting against Space Marines.
This looks so awesome I asked him if I could post some of them on this forum.
Trygon fighting assault marines.
Carnifex Ripping a Rhino apart
Zoanthrope blasting a marine with it's psychic attack
This last is part of an all converted Eldar army where every model
is made mixing bits from High Elf, Dark Elf, and Eldar models.
Wraithlord with Brightlance
Sorry for crappy photos, don't have a proper camera around.
thats a cool conversion
ive seen a simular tygon doing the same thing to some Ultra smurfs ill put a likie in for yea....hmm maybye not :/ oh welll...it was cool though ^_^

Thar image doesn't really give the Trygon all the praise it should have. There are several small details around most of the marines.
The one being eaten has a grenade in his hand ready to shove it in to the Trygons mouth. The one on it's back is carrying a melta bomb, the one back at the tail has shot several small holes in the Trygons carapace, and there are scratch marks from the chainsword. The one with a claw partialy sticking out of his head is in the process of dropping both his weapons.

Never the less, those models are amasing. I really love the paint scheme too.

What kind of Overcoat did he use to cover them and give them that glossy look?
I already posted my Stormraven way back, not sure if I can post a second model, but I just finished my conversion for Carnavon, High Chaplain of the Flesh Tearers (counts-as Astaroth)
Dude that flesh tearer is fantastic. Awesome weapon conversion and the face looks great too. I'm not sure I understand what is going on with his backpack though.
And not to discourage or in anyway diss your awesome, original idea - but purely fluff wise, if you wanted to, you could still include Astorath (as is) in the flesh tearers army because he does make his rounds amongst the successor chapters.
Gunzhard wrote:Dude that flesh tearer is fantastic. Awesome weapon conversion and the face looks great too. I'm not sure I understand what is going on with his backpack though.
it's hard to make out in this picture, but those are servo skulls, they're arranged more over his left shoulder, but yeah, I can see where the confusion comes from at this angle.

while true in the newer codex, I prefer to use the fluff from the old Index Astartes article, where the FTs keep their own house in order, and keep marines fallen to the Black Rage around as long as possible to swell their ranks. Plus I like my conversion
Right now I would have to say this one is my favorite atm.
Custom storm bolter, the power weapon is broken atm and needs to be fixed, also needs to be finished in the painting, and some modeling to make him look more space wolf like.
My best so far, I'm thinking. She's still WIP, but she's getting there. Plan on fixing that trailing cloak thing behind her and maybe add more wings. Thoughts?
Also, her:
Accidentally cut her wing and then accidentally melted the bottom parts with acetone. :\ Goes to show, test on sprue first..

And to above, celestine is a beautiful model, you did great!
Yes it is. Thank you. I gave that to a friend for Christmas a while back. He uses it for one of his commanders.
(pst...don't tell anyone, but I'm working on a Black Templar Bike Squad...on Segways! It's on the back burner, right now. Probably get to it after GenCon.)

These type of comments piss me off, specially from a poster that doestn have a single picture in the gallery. Not everyone that plays this hobby is a Golden Demon winner, infact those guys that are, probably make up about 3% of this hobby. At least foxlight had enough balls/enthusiasm to post his work. He definitely didnt deserve a comment like that.
And on that note, Im glad to see this thread still pop up every now and then. Seriously nice work in here.

There is no point to discouraging people on this thread. And really, we don't want another good thread locked because of people breaking dakka's #1 rule.
i know man if you dont like someones work then you dont have to comment people seem to forget that this hobby seriously ranges in its age/skill groups and a bit of common courtesy doesnt cost much.
in fact post some of your master pieces up here for us to gasp in amazment at

I love the guard on a Segway, i might try a dreadnought on one sometime...
Bad Juju - It is a copy of the Seth, with a few adaptations, its a commission to show my current skill level, i still don't think its my best effort as its only the second full model I've every sculpted.
As for THE bad comment posted before about fox-light713's fav peice. Brutal posts like that don't help anyone, there is nothing wrong with criticism, as long as it is constructive.

I'm with you here buddy. And I don't understand the original gripe anyway. I could tell what it was. A Grey Knight Termie PIP. Nowt wrong with that.
And Some of the stuff in here is making me giddy with envy!
I especially liked the use of Fantasy terrain on the Baneblade!
And I'm guessing that carnifex ripping up the Rhino is getting a face full of bolter rounds any second now. To quote a quite mediocre movie: "I don't care what universe you're from, that gotta hurt!" Really nice conversion though. Very dynamic.

I know this has been commented on before, but it's just such an outrageously provocative statement, that I just can't stop myself.
Who the Heck(TM) are you to make a comment like that, Samus? And to tell him to "get out" because your subjective opinion is that his paintjob sucked? At least he HAS a paintjob, quite unlike you. I guess all your models come in the out-of-the-box concrete camo. Incredible that you can post a comment like that, on a painting-critique forum, without having posted ANYTHING yourself. JEEEEEEZ.
Anyway, I've seen much worse than his model on this forum.
Hurray a fellow Ork player that likes chrome paint. I do the same to my vehicles. All I can tell you is a quick rust up on the edges and then wash it in black wash, and that thing will look the tits. Youll be blown away at how much that will bring the details out. It reminds me of a looted mega duck, anyone remember that guy?
Man,do guys ever stop complaining? Jeez, get off your high-horse. I can say whatever I want about his model. This is a forum,a place for opinions. It looks like he dipped some grey knight in acetone, then threw a bunch of bits on it. I've seen dollar-store action figures that look cooler than that. That's my opinion, there. Gonna whine about my it some more?

Well the people arguing with what you said have very good reason too. Theres a HUGE difference from constructive criticism, and what you said. You were(and still are) very rude with what you said. You simply could of said, hey you need to slow down, and try to think out more on what your doing, because IMO it looks sloppy. That would of been far better then, well it basically looks like cat gak that was eatten and than shat out again.
Besides, I still would like to see some of your work, if your going to harass someone like you did. That way if your stuff is close to awesome sauce, at least Ill understand where all the hate came from

As my Fallen Angel Sorcerer is the only conversion I have pictures of right now I'll post it. It's quite basic, some greenstuff used to fill gaps, a Sorcerer backpack I aquired from one of my friends, a pair of Pegasus wings and some black templar bitz. All of this added to a DA vet another friend give me in exchange for some flamestorm cannons. I made some positioning changes to the weapons as well but that's it.
It's on display at my local GW, shame the camera hasn't picked up some of the highlights that well.
sakrileg wrote:that dark angel is pretty badass....so how exactly do you get GW to have them on display at their shop?
Some persuasion and just asking them nicely, that and the staff set up a cabinet recently for converted and well painted models. Some of the models in the case are painted by staff members but a few aren't, there is a Malanthrope, Witch Hunter Preachers, some awesome Tau and then (my) Fallen DA all of which have been painted by visitors to the GW store. Their is also a bit dedicted to a WHFB 'Hero's Tale' thing.
Nice stuff here. Whether it looks really professional or not, I think anyone's effort to make something different should be applauded for the attempt if nothing else. Its not like any of these are cheap miniatures, so it takes some courage to do it, and whether it fits your tastes or level, its all good. I just got back into wargaming again after a long hiatus, so hopefully I'll have some new stuff soon. Been painting a few miniatures for RPGs I've been in, lately, and I got the bug again. Lessee if I have any pictures of older stuff...
Apparently, I didn't really take pictures of many of my miniatures... so all I have is this simple decorated base for a Malus Darkblade I painted a long time ago. Everything else is from other systems entirely... =/
I like the obscenely too high handlebars on that bike. I thought about doing that with my warabss, but it didnt look right with the obscenely too long chopper style forks.
Its good, Iv been using it for everything, it holds detail nicely and dries nice and fast. You can also see what you've done better due to the colour, i still think GS it better for super thin details, although the few face experiments iv done with the ProCreate have come out well enough, so i might change my mind. All in all good stuff and worth a try.
I've been poking around and sadly couldn't decide between two. Both are centerpiece/HQs for my current armies and I'm rather fond of each of them. The first one though was probably my 'best' conversion because the most work went into it. But sadly, the Carnifex "Gunslinger" (2 heavy weapons) is no longer valid. He's included here because I'm about to tear his arms off. :(
I had picked up an older carnifex somewhere. Totally detest the model, so I made it a support piece and wanted to give it that 'sturdy' look for firing two weapons.
The Great White Hive Tyrant, eternally sought by Shas'o Ba'ha. *sigh* I love this little guy <3. I had the old tyrant model for ages before I picked up doing tyranids solidly, by then a new model was on the way, and I just thought it made more sense for a flying one to be smaller. I also didn't want to do the dragon wings, since it would way overbalance the model. Inspired by Nausicaa and or dragonflies, I went for a double set of wings (from the DE dark pegasus), put a couple more tendrils on the lash whip and made him fly.
Elorrah is my current pride and joy. I used an old guardian figure that I had picked up waaay back when I first got into the hobby just for painting things. The hair is actually the original hair color with some slight highlighting. I had to redo the face though. I sacked a whol farseer model just for the helm and her sword is on the other side of the bike. I'm really pleased with the pose and how the greenstuffed cloak came out.
More photos of the Great White and Farseer in my gallery.
Here's my favorite conversion. It was originally going to be a Demonic Speed Demon Prince of Khorne from the 3rd Edition codex, but since the 4th edition codex came out, and Demonic Flight is the option to take, the prince sat unbuilt for awhile until a contest of at throneofskulls.com.
Here is what became of it...the pics are a little off color so sry for that
@ Yggdrasil: Very cool looking. Like am Hobo with a vengeance.
@ tylermenz: Great model, the proportions of the torso fit perfectly with the proportions of the horse body.
@ Disjointed Entity: Meant to be a Flyrant proxy, but a crystalline or energy based Tyranid.
IronfrontAlex wrote:you need to tell me how you made the top hat.
Cut a circle of plasti- card and cut a small hole in that so that it sits on the head better, so it looks like a polo, and you have the rim. Then just roll a cylinder of green stuff to make the hat. Simple!

Mr. Tervigon is hilarious. My brother and I were just joking about Tyranids talking to one another about ""if it hurts, and if the organisms they eat enjoy becoming part of the hive" and we were talking like they were gentlemanly. That mini hit that joke perfectly.
This is my Chaos Nurgle Termie Lord. He is made from various parts including Forge World Death Guard upgrades. He is triumphantly standing on a dismembered Space Marine. The scythe is scratch built with an Imperial Guard's head for the butt cap. One of my fav conversions...too bad I don't play Nurgle CSM anymore.

A) Calm down. Flame wars get threads locked, and this one has works of art in it. No one wants to see it go away.
B) Be polite. Its rule number EINS! NUMBER ONE! NUMERO UNO! You dont need to post things bashing other members. In fact, you shouldn't be. Remember that.

Yea it's not much.. got a spare cannon from a battlewagon sprue, got a ork boy and put it on. Added a arm and gave it a stikkbomb to make it look like a handle for his gun. BTW he only has one arm and some ork painboy stuck a kannon where his chopped off arm was! hope you like it

He is a Salamander Captain yes. Didn't want to go with the usual bright green style so toned it down a bit. The cloak is from the Dark Elf corsairs champion. It's just a case of shaving off the back of the body so that the Space Marine torso fits. Then just cut a slot in the top of the cloak for the mount for the backpack to fit into.
The Hydra took (from uncut parts to full constuction) about 6 hours to build. To paint maybe two hours. How I painted (infact this is how i paint all my Armour) the Hydra is to firstly use a good Enamel car primmer (the reason for this is not only does it stick to any thing it also acts as an exalent key for the top coats of paint). Spray twice, then once more to make sure. I heavy drybrushed Titanium White for the hull edge lines. Cold Steel is the base colour for the tracks, then a light drybrush of Molten Bronze over the track to give that used and tarnished look, Lamp Black used for the rubber track bits, then washed with Paynes Gray (a water colour paint, the reason for this is that water colours by there very nature dry translusant) to sit in the deep bits. the guns were painted in Cold Steel then drybrushed with Birght Silver and given a good thick wash with the Paynes Gray (note while it says its a gray, almost black in colour when used as a wash it is more of a Deadly Nightshade Blue). It was that quick as the primer is the base coat. When it come to it, I'm a really lazy painter as i know how to short cut stuff and still make it look table top ready
All pretty awesome. I have a soft spot for the Guard. I think IG inspires some of the most interesting dioramas out there, and you really cant go wrong with the lone Sniper on the hunt
Ribon Fox: I like how your flak tank actually looks like it packs flak cannons. They may have the same stats as autocannons, but it's nice to see someone choosing the flak alternative to the otherwise autocannon model.

I'm a newbie to this forum - but here are some of my conversion efforts that i really like...
My Black Lions Chapter Master Nemaeia (Based on a Grey Knight Terminator) (I used real bones on the base from rabbits and weasels - they were being chucked out by my school)
Ishmael 'Red Baron' Coronach and scratchbuilt Thunderbolt
Any feedback welcome
Cheers Laney
When You Say "Scratch Built", do you mean to say you cut this yourself from a template? Or some kind of conversion? I'd love to try this kind of thing, and don't have the money to blow on forgeworld.
I used lackofabettername's template of a thunderbolt - which was really easy to build from (I ended up making three in total - two given away as presents) and they cost very little in plasticard - you can add as much detail as you want after building the base model. It was about two-three days build time for each. lackof's templates are superb, I've built one of his warhounds as well.
I like that manticore. I might actaully do that. I can use a whirlwind kit as a rhino and take the turret.
Why thanks!
i used the new Hellhound kit. if you do make it, i want to see pics of it!
That new kit is pretty awesome. I'll have to try it once I get some extra cash. The hellhound has a really versatile frame, which is great for proxies!

Still a bit of a wip, and the whole squad is comming soon. The idea is: the larger Tyranids drag corpses back to the digestion pool and then just toss them in to see what comes out.

Interesting concept you got there! Would like to see your final product.
That Thunderbolt is awesome 02Laney, but if it's an IG plane, why does it have ork graffiti on it's wing?
The orky red wunz go fasta! is just a bit of propaganda on the part of the Red Baron (doesn't go down well with the Commissars though). It shows them that this thunderbolt is the best there is in language they can understand!
02Laney,
Ahhh, I'm glad you thought that through. A lot of people wouldn't have had an actual reason. Nice work!
JaWzY83,
I would have said Advent Children. With the massive sword and horse (almost like a motorbike), it reminds me of Cloud.
The horse's position reminds me of Zelda. Overall it makes me think of Devil May Cry for some reason. I'm doubting any of them are right, though.
So here goes: ICO! Amiright?

I think this is my best conversion, I built it a few years ago for my Deamonhunters army.
no offense but the head looks abit to big for that body, specially if the body is gunna be obscured by a bike of some sort, it just looks like a giant boble head...
I thought that as well at first glance but if you look closely its just a standard sized ork head. Im sure it'll look great once painted, its just cause there's so much silver there now.

Great conversion only problem is that the center models chest plate is way to bare. I assume you going to sculpt something onto it.

I realy have never been big on converting but i needed something special to stand out as a grey knight comander. This was probably the hardest conversion I have ever done. I had to saw the arm off and then build the attachment point back up with green stuff before sticking the psycannon arm on. A few pieces of etched brass and I called him done. I actually have painted him stuck, the big book on top, and stuck him on a different base since then but never got around to taking pics yet.
I posted the WIP for this guy years ago, and just found him laying about, painted up n' pretty, waiting for some camera love. So, here is Brother Librarian Uriel!
I painted a good deal of fellows in this pattern, and as much as i loved the infinity snake emblem, I never could come up with a good name for the Chapter
Sorry for the less than perfect camera work, still havent quite figured out the perfect balance.
I have a particular loathing for my friends saint (blasted thing just wont die), so I converted a corrupted version for with my daemons. The look on his face when I first put it down on the table was classic.
The one in the middle (chapion) has been just modfied with scalpel and glue, but that sword is longer than normally and I made it hold that helmet... I like it, eventough it is not actually great or anything
My personal favorite is an Ork I did as a gift for a friend. Not the best picture of it, but the only one I could find. The Space Wolf looted gear represents the fact that he pretty much taught me to play, and my space wolves got tromped.
What kind of machine arm is sticking out of the ground on that ork models base? I Really like the overall Model...Sorry that the Space wolves stopped your Waaagh!
It makes me want to post pics of my Living Saint/Slaanesh Daemon Princess.
BTW I need some advice on a few up-coming conversions.
Firstly, how big are Reaper minitures,as in are they the same scale as 40k,the model in question is the 2008 Christmas Sophie,a female Daemon sitting on a chimney. Just if anyone has seen it.
Secondly,I the picture of Inquisitor Lord Karamazov, there is a bald female in SoB power armour with a shield and spear with nails in her head and a halo. Does anyone know a good model to use as a starting point for her.
I'd just take a sister in appropriate armor, find a bald head to use (the hardest part; maybe cut the hair off a sister head/green stuff to smooth it out?), and use green stuff/pins/wire/etc. to make the nails and halo.
edit: Ktulhut, I love the shield on your wolf rider. What do you use the hell-engine thing for? Daemonprince?
Not really a conversion, but I used the dozer blade from the chaos tank sprue, and I sliced up a marine and maimed him on the blade. This is (For all intensive purposes) my first conversion, aside from some soldering experiments on gaunts. Pics later...Camera suxs...

It's actually the arm of some old action figure I had lying around. There was a heroclix model I saw once of Gambit jumping off of a destroyed Sentinel hand, and all you could see was the arm coming up out of the base. My idea for this guy was to have more of a kunnin' Mork follower (or is it Gork), rather than a fighty Gork follower (or Mork). So the general story is that he managed to ambush some Xenos warmachine/walker thing and is now raising his banner and shouting in triumph. Also, his gun has a lot of dakka for good measure. And a chainsaw. Can never have too many chainsaws.
edit: also, other way around. His Waaagh stopped my poor Wolves.
Thanks, Cutthroat. Much appreciated. That same christmas, he converted and painted me a pretty badass Bjorn model. Wish I had a picture of it handy. His wife and my girlfriend both decided they weren't speaking to us anymore.
...until we gave them our gifts, anyway (which were NOT miniatures, in case you were wondering).
I was going to ask you that..But if you are able to get pics of that present given to you I think that would be awesome!!! My closest friend is not a fan of warhammer at all so I would not get the same response! LOL
Well, here it is some pics of my first (and unique, at the moment) conversion. Not as good as some I've seen in the previous pages, but I'm very glad of it.
It's supposed to be an ultramarine corrupted from chaos. I've customized a miniature from the "Assault on Black Reach" package and i particularly like the scratch on his chest.
Now I'm working on a new conversion like this one, but including a horse skull... maybe I'll post something later. See ya!
This is my fav converstion, its not a complicated one or a massive one to do, but i think it looks cool n fits with my army really well. only thing i have not put on yet is the crew, as i olnly finished this 2 days ago lol.
This isn't my best, but its the best I currently have a photo of (all of mine are in boxes, as I'm on the move between colleges now).
My Eldar Pirate Prince, Cael Meallan, the Hand that Falls. Inquisitor scale Ranger, with a metal Wraithlord Powerfist. I actually don't own any uncoverted minatures, but since I don't own any 28mm ones (other than my old housemates abandoned Blood Angels and Dark Eldar that I use for parts), that makes a little more sense...
