asian art is very cool; i have a giant book of myths and a great dorling kinsley art the deffinitive guide , book and tehre is plenty of lovely pics in those , i would love to have an amble through you and weetys book shelf myself, but my favorite book of all time is a real cheap waterstones self published book of the past 1000 years greatest ideas, its so handy especially for name dropping great writers and thinkers lol , well that and a lovely litlle book called the short history of myth, very concise unlike campbells trolling hero with a thousand faces

aye and alchemist ,is one of those words that just rolls of the tongue as well... Al Che Mist, cool word.

Hey you scholastic lot got some nice work done today , washed up , washing ect.. even managed to sneak in a few hours on the RT Dioram a , like wild horses could stop me I textured the whole board with exterior textured paint , thats really really old and then added a few hand fulls of ballast , stoney sand for concrete posts , for those that didnt know my father is insisting on building me a fence , reason why my dillapitated fence has fallen down so i thought i would save my self some pennies and use his ballast , its very coarse and i had to chuck out the big pebbles , but it did a great job of creating the rubble strewn effect, place it on whlie the textured paint was still wet. i also made a necron totemic head out of clay ( Weety ) , i used the metal ons toy box http://3rdtoy.main.jp/newsimages/200906/062804.jpg as its armature , and it was near perfect, in fact it looked near enough like a necron to begin with in my oppinion , but , i felt i should do this justice fully. Its was pretty fun sculpting with the clay , very tactile and very messy ,( weety i dont know how you do it. you must be constantly grey or brown)
i also attempted to scratch build a tomb stalker and a giant scarab, from the boys bionicle collection , but it proved a little to time consuming and i was afraid i would not be able to acheive the tiny details pretty happy with how the diorama is looking at the moment , although the pics are not great , they have a barren moon feel to them , bad lighing and happy accidents the finished look i want is early morning mist on a mayan temple , so a while to go yet . And finally i recieced some more of ulshekis retinue inclueding the potential Ulsheki. Thanks for reading

@Perky true story , Yeah i know

@ Baiyuan , hey Matey glad you popped in , woulnt want any stray insperation left outside Thanks for the Kind words mate.

hey neil...nice update on your dio^^

the tombstalker and the scarab look promising... wouldn´t abondon this built... as i recall the heavy necrons aren´t so detailed anyway...nice choice again of lego bits to get that scaled feeling with the stalker!
i have to ask, what is that structure that glows above the big neco head? is it infact a trick of the eyeor ideed glowing? just realized after zooming in that its too a lego bit...

and you have a fireplace there too (sorry for derail^^)

the apron of the inquisitorial retinue char looks funny... will this be hardened to be used later?

by the way, i have to ask, will this dio take place on a praxean planet or somewhere entirely different from your created playground?

and to not forget it, the surface of your dio looks very good, the jungle/forest at the right side looks like a good contrast to the barren wastelandish necron ruin/temple...

just one minor thing... why do i see some tier effect there in the middlesection... looks like the whole ground is made from wooden panels....

and finally the big sculpture of the necron head looks very symetrical... a task not easyly achieved!

cheers, vik

@ Mad marty , no probs its was perkustins idea to use the candles so thanks to him for bringing up the idea, glad it was use full ,after so many nice tuts by you good self ;-)

@ Vik Hey mate . i like the scarab but feel a little guilty now because the kids play with these , so i think my limit has been reached in regards of stealling and kitbashing old toys , i may try it out of paper or card though.

Its a bionicle sword that glows , when the button is pressed , just wanted to see the effect in photos. probably wont be in the final build as its a favourite of the boys.

mmm Fire....

this guys is zug from gw blood bowl he was pretty pricey with the expensive gw p&p but i loved his face and his build , i think he will be called Lars and he is a fantical Zealot working with the RT's Missionary preacher, as his personel body guard . he enlghtens with his fists lol not sure how to make him look ecclesisatical bu thought a tabbard would still reveal his muscsles and immprwess that he is a missionary

And sorry i forgot i haventput any fluff for this build yet.
Its not on Praxus , Its somewhere far in the eastern Rim in unknown space a few years before Ulsheki discovers Che Austri and meets Valrick. will do some fluff when iam, onto painting. its all in my nogging at the moment.

@ perky not seen dino topia , is it any good ? i was just having a larf little britain style cheers , i think i will have a go at the nightringer , but i need some more suplies of brown stuff 2 part epoxy , and the pound shop was out , so it will have to wait for now. gonna make a necron lord for sho! tho!

the board is now in three sections for storage i did make it a full board but decided if i want to keep it it had to be in sections , will probably add nice foiliage for the seams.there will be grass all over the board whe it is complete . short and tall.

Thanks mate the syametrical head was tricky , cheers for noticing.

Wow... leave a couple of days, and a crazy menagerie of stuff comes poppin' up! Awesome! Lookin' forward to the PSO militant arm guys (who makes them?? They're nice!) and the truescale daemon. I had my doubts about the art direction in terms of the truescale, but after seeing the final product on the CSM, all doubts are put to rest.

And Dragon Age 2 is... different. In a good way, especially if you're a console gamer, like me. It plays much smoother than the first. Won't go into too much detail, but I loved the first one as well, but I'm blown away by this one. Get a drink, hunker down, make yourself a cool "Hawke" (unlike Mass Effect 1 and 2, the alternate faces and options actually mesh into more than multiracial frankenstiens) and have some fun!

*ahem*... back to you regular programming, and move that TS Daemon up on the queue.. I can sense incoming Epic from it.

hey guys hope you are all well , i have been working hard at trying to finish the diorama base before i suffer burnout from over exposure. would love to show some of the nice minis i will be using for ulshekis retinue , but you will have to wait for that as i have to put them together.. still waiting for my missionary from red box games so i finsihed some fluff for Ulsheki , their will be one more piece when the diorama is complete.

@Hf Izanagi hi matey , aye dont take your eyes of the ball too long .. i work fast the Pso millitant are from dust tactics ,fantasy flight games
http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=123

glad you like the True scale guy , i like him too , although he still needs finishing , him and the deamon will become part of a big diorama including the Inquisitower , i was originally make for the armies on parade competition , but think i will just make it for fun , as Gw doesnt like true scale thanks for the game info i am a big fan of mass effect and dragon age , so i will pick it up eventually when i get some free time from modeling after i finsh new vegas and killzone 3 then mass effect 3 and then dead space 2.

fluffy time========

Ulsheki flopped into the old Eldar Chair, the decadence was quite exquisite , agile dancers pirouetted in a frenzy of light, whilst the servants offered up large ripe fruits. A rainbow of colours bedazzled his eyes , had he to wait any longer in the ancient craftworld , he was sure he would have been sick . A willowy man who's eyes betrayed his youthful visage sat down apposite , clasping his nimble fingers over Ulshekis , calloused hands.
“Ulsheki , Thank you for the Gifts , The elders were getting quite upset at the thought of going without again. And Tial sends her regards , and apologisers for not greeting you herself.. Politics! It seems that your ,..imperial friends are causing some consternation within the council.”

Ulsheki “ Serray it seems I have less friends every time I visit , and although I miss the bountiful delights of Tial , I am here on business after all. “

Serray “ of course ...then lets not dally. Lean forward child and let me tell you a story....

My people are ancient but , some things are even older than us. In the time before man and before the gods you now know , the galaxy was in harmony. One race ruled all as a steward. We know them as the Old ones. Truly ancient and powerful, their technology so advanced it was sorcery. But they were not alone in the galaxy , other races crawled through the dirt and dust of creation, amongst them , the Necrontyr, an impatient race , who sold all in return for a promise only partially fulfilled . Their dying sun prompted an hasty pact with malignant god so powerful it consumed stars as food. a terrible price was paid for their short sightedness , both god and Necrontyr now encased in living metal skins, one bound to to do the others bidding for an eternity. Their soulless blood-lust tied inexorably to the whims of a few discontent beings . They would have betrayed all living things were it not for the enslavers. Buts another story... The Old ones grew fearful of this new threat to the galaxy , and created four races to fight for them , my people were one and another were the Old Slann, a race so powerful they could create life from the void. These reptilian masters , are long lost in time , but their work lives on. From time to time my people discover things , things better left undiscovered , some things better left ignored , but this is not one. Far out in the eastern rim lays a planet untouched by your Imperium , its secrets lay dormant for a millennia. We have reason to believe that , within it lays a race begot by the Old Slann , a race that could provide valuable information to our cause. But you may ask , if its so valuable why not go yourself, right? Well unfortunately we have pressing business elsewhere , and we do not want any dalliance with your imperium's battle cruisers at this time. Better an inqusitive soul such as yourself , tell us whats their.

Ulsheki “ what makes you think I want anything to do with this planet , I have my own agendas to settle Serray , I cant believe you brought me here thinking I would be your fetching boy. Go get another sap to do your dirty work I am outta here..”

Serray “ you mean to tell me that an undiscovered race laying in your charters remit does not interest you? All the possibilities that it entails.. glory from your beloved Imperium , or maybe just plunder that could be sold on the black market... Yo may kid yourself Ulsheki , but I have been around longer than you care to immagine , the details are already on your data slate, all we ask is to report your findings to us first , then do as you please. This after all what your race does best , am I right?

Ulsheki hated the Serray sometimes , he knew his mind better than he did himself, probably because he was reading it whilst he ate that gruuba fruit ! But he was right of course , privateering was a shot in the dark at best , one world in one hundred had anything worth the fuel visiting.
But a new species, sentient , that means money and lots of it. He could of course just go their and not report back to the Eldar , after all they were xeno's and enemies of imperium . Well thats what the inquisition would have you believe , he new in reality things were not that simple. They had been good to Ulsheki when times had been bad , when the imperium was not the friend it was to him now. He owed them a debt and they knew it. Besides he also had been around longer than he looked , and the Eldar , would not send him their without a real reason , sentient species were not ten a penny but they were not all that rare in his line of work , in fact he replaced his navigator with one a few years back , their was something eles on that planet , and for what ever reason the Eldar didn't want to face it first, this would make most men , wet their pants and run home to momma ,
but Ulsheki was not most men , he was a captain of men , a rogue trader !, with his own ship and a cargo bay full of ass kicking, if their was something on that planet the eldar wants , he was gonna get it first. And no pansy frog eyed species was gonna stand in his way.

Captains log star-date M41 Ulsheki's Rogue trader ship the diligent womb in stable geostationary orbit. Above unknown planet Eastern Rim

Preliminary scans show a reptilian species in retrograde , the species now living in a martial warfare state had once held significant power on this planet. In depth analysis shows that the species was on the brink of interstellar travel over ten millennia ago, when for some unknown reason the civilisation imploded into infighting and savagery . cities were abandoned and the population declined to the few rudimentary tribes they are now.
Of note however is the fact that all sentient species on the planet have positioned themselves around key regions in dense jungle. Spectral results show a high concentration in xenon and gauss fluctuations.

Should I assemble an away team sir ? Missionary Gerónimo de Aguilar has asked if he can bring the devine light of the imperium to the natives, should he be told to assemble his retinue? And finally the Chronus class dropship the Hopeful hand is prepped and ready for drop.

Ulsheki felt his stomach rise as the air whsitled pass the dropships cargo door. His world span as he held down his lunch …. Sire we have multiple scans at location drop site , shall we abort..?
No! we are well prepared for anything the natives can chuck at us , ! Ulsheki looked around at his chosen away team , all experts in their craft, the constant preaching by Aguiler was starting to annoy him , but at least it took away the noise of the whirring engines. He had to be strong any sign of weakness could doom an away team , so he swallowed hard , and sucked in recycled air. His men all veterans in their chosen field sat easy in the seats, just another drop , one more in a long line of expeditions he thought., his senachal clicked at the data slate, no doubt filing some secret away for a rainy day his ornate duelling pistols fastened beneath his long jacket was a reassuring sight, he was more than just crew , he was the only friend Ulsheki could really depend upon , and the longest serving or should that be surviving member of the captains circle. He was a dead hand with those relics and just knowing he was here made Ulsheki feel more relaxed. The rest of his officers checked weapons and data slates , trying to avoid direct eye contact with Ulsheki, Hmmf I still have it he thought to himself. Sire Landing in 5...4...3...2...1....weapons ready...airlock …..disengaged ….

Ulsheki “ alright you raggedy Anne bunch of babies , lets find some thing worth dying for …
Move it..!
Maybe this time ,the thought snuck In as the warm humid air washed over his face..

and some nice piccies

a red shirt like they had always with them with star trek away teams? whenever some of those had a line to say and no one ever saw them before it was a deathsentence to them^^

cool diorama... cool story...and no fair stopping now... i think you all here at dakka take to much stock to cliffhanger stories...really i would love to read something more with an ending to it and not like a kamasutrastorytelling...endless intercourse of stories...
the frescopainting in the caves is realy good looking...how can you do that on such a tiny scale...
on some pics the big necrontyr face looks almost as if it is gently smiling...

also again great picturetaking shown, the first one particularly as the sunlight is like a crown one the old ruin...
the pastic greens looks very realistic...

this will be also a truly great dio...

cheers mate, vik

I really like the board....would work perfectly for a game of Inquisitor. Really looking forward to more of this project. The shuttle is

The mighty Zug is a model I bought a while ago to make into an ex navy boxing champion, security officer for my rogue trader warband. I decided that he needs to be standing a little more upright with leg bends, cuts and gs....a heck of a lot of work.... so far I've not got round to the conversion.

Thanks for the feedback peeps .

@perky thanks , i think the deladar need a custom terrain of their own dont you maybe you should commision me , i have a spare board left the wall paintings are from the native reptillian race who worship the necron. ant say anymore or it will spoil the last part of the story

@Monky thanks fella , it took a while but i wanted a bit of something , because the board is justa big lump of polystyrene after all . red shirt is now on the list

@ perky and he will be called Timpson , or Gibbons or both

@Scrazza Cheers matey.

@Vik Kamasutra stories , where.. i want to read em cave painting is a mixture of painting and custom graphics , and yes the necron head does look like he is cracking a grin i am too impressed with the plastic greens , was gonna paint em but bugger it , they will do. and thanks for the optomissim i guess i better have timpson gibbons say some random line

Timpson Gibbons" Hey captain , is it true you have never lost an away team member? "

@Monkey thanks

@PDH , thanks fella , it would be fun to play on , i think Bailey has that in mind ..As for zug sound like a lot of work , but knowing you old giffer it would look great i was thinking of givving him a classic monk hair cut as well , think it could work? i checked out the missionary from rogue trader rpg book and he looks cool . might make his tabbard more like that one.

Hf Izanagi your wish is my command matey...and where there was nothing ..he brought forth a multitude of life.....

Timpson Gibbons" Hey captain , is it true you have never lost an away team member? "

the fresco looks like you photoshoped some graphics into one another...well thats awsome...as photoshoped doesn´t say anything about quality...

and that dropship is cool looking as ever!

He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds

Thanks , this was a very quick cheating sculpt . i only sculpted the head and feet from scratch everything eles was just layered on top of a old broken spiderman toy . i am not very happy with the paint job , i just dont have the patience to leave things for any length on time, they have to completed that instance, so i can move on. ;-) and as Vik keeps telling me great art takes time . i think i am more of an Ideas man myself . maybe one day i shall find a sculpt i really want to take time on. i think i would have to be trapped on a desert island though.

@ monkey , he has got that earth wind thing going on hasnt he , very DISCO and i should know ;-)

@Hev Vik , sorry i C'ant take credit for the body sculpt , you kow me , if their is a toy to for a shortcut i will take it ;-) spider man in this case , i dis however scarth build the head and feet as i mentioned already , but the boddy work is just green stuff layered over the armarture , i wanted a Avater god type skin, all broke and gnarly . and i did research some super hereos for the build , he could have been obne of them , was he gold ? Dr Manhatten was the inspiration for his eyes ,.
I have painted the dropship now , but the photos dont do it justice, should take some more really i went for a killzone 3 style dropship scheme with some nice weathering underneath. The frescoes actually took quite a while to create ,i used actual mayan art specifically the turquise, then overlaid , warhammer lizardmen glyphs and a slann a mayan god , lizard men and necrons ! then printed out 10 different colour schemes , i have used them in other parts of the ceremonial chambers , as well . Thanks Matey

@ Perky , cheers i decided to use the deciever instead of the nightbringer, as the fluff didnt fit with the rogue traders story .

@Pdh Thanks Fella , i will give it a go , and yes he is buggered isnt he ;-) , Unless he has Uriel Ventras with him ................. which i doubt !

Hey guys hows things, i have been uber productive even more than usual i guess not having a job is not that bad after all , now if only i could actually afford the models and not get into debt over them

so thanks for the comments and nice words of encouragement, i am in a qaundry i am at the point of starting to work on the miniatures , but all the photos i have taken are of them in situ , and because i am really trying not to spoil the lovely dio scenes , unpainted like i normally would and yet still trying to keep up the motivation on a long haul of a project, i have decided to show the memebers of ulshekis retinue as a work in progress , off the board , that way i can develop fluff as reveal the progressions bit by bit , as opposed to that 3 months of not posting anything and then blammo

so i have actually made up quite a few guys allready , just blute tacked though , so first up oops nearly forgot...

@ Monkey thanks , yep indy feeling is comming along nicely now matey , and i have a great idea for a diorama within the diorama as well

@ Vik squish em !

@dbsamurai , yep you right of course ! although Monkey was refering to the general theme i am hoping to achieve cheers

@ Madmarty cheers man thats the feeling i was hoping to achieve matey, now go get some bug spray.

@ weety not for long though

@Perkustin Thanks Perky , i did actually drybrush them silver but the wash killed it never mind

thanks guys

so first up in honour of perky Monkey and Vik

Timpson gibbons the red shirt .." So captain is it true you have never lost an away team member ?" although their is not much left of it after the guass flayer has done its job
and security chief Renko ex guard , placed in Ulshekis crew by the manipulative Inquisitor Vendrake , to spy on Ulsheki .. Ulsheki of course realises this , and plays the his part in the game feeding disinformation to Vendrake , and placing Renko and his trolling jarhead men in the worst situations imaginable, if it wasnt for renko's amazing ability with his custom las , he would be dead a hundred times over . He has no love for Ulsheki , and the feeling is mutual , its just buissness.

OMG! That is gruesome and full of win! Really well modeled and clearly you have thought about what it would be like to be flayed by a positron projector.

ouch, that must´ve stung a wee bit...or well maybe not...
so now we go from grim dark into brutal and gruesome?^^ only joking... that i want to see as a very quick painted job again... the poor Thompson...for a reminder he could now fit snuggly into a smal vial and be carried with the next awayteam forever more...

seems that you´ve run out of bits, eh? well...will be interesting to see how that will turn out... what "filler" will you use?

to your sniper...i think he needs a buttstock still and something about the collar seems not right, although i give you that the paintjob might pull it all into a whole different direction nevertheless...like something like that?

also i am wondering what you used for the body? that is no cadian, is it?

ah and forgot almost :

cheers, vik

hey guys dailey update now , until i start painting. i have a nice piccy of The man himself Ulsheki , he took a lot of time trying to get that right look, was unhappy with the stock model so i tried out dozens of weapon combinations , finally settled on that indy Vibe i was looking for.
thanks again for the nice comments.

@Pekustin , i saw this pic and wanted to recreate that image . i found this cool lonk to a discussion to how the flayer may actually work and i think the modle may actually represent what they found out quite well. http://thectansupportgroup.co.uk/smf/index.php?action=printpage;topic=3911.0 thanks again matey.

@Chibi the bodies in my basement are for research only i swear

@Asphalt , thanks matey love your blog bye the way.. very inspirational. would be cool to see a tidal wave of the little critters , or a floating cloud of them. Thanks for the inspiration fella , and i hope you like the necron lord , inspired by your bendy necrons just need some cool giant green crystals now

@Perkustin ...... ...never liked Mungo anyhow

@Vik hi matey , he will be painted up when all the minis and board is complete but just for you and monkey i shall paint him first , and your right about the buttstock i will add one thanks for that mate. not sure what you meant by " run out of bits " , i have plenty still
the neck thing was a happy accident , but reminded me of the same thing. funnily enough though pdh linked a mini with the same thing and a tutorial to do it much better than i did , so i may redo it still.

@Monkey Glad you like sir, was lots of fun quick and dirty just how i like em and as for the tutu have you seen this one its pretty ace..http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat500026a&prodId=prod1340010

so updatey time , i am quite proud of the big man himself. and a nice custom necron lord with light staff based on this pic

This diorama is going to be incredible!

I love what you do with all your models, no one is the same (with the exception of the scarabs! ) They are all so full of character!

I am not too keen on the Necron holding the head, it does not seem to fit into their personality of soulless warriors. Apart from that everything is going along perfectly, keep it up!

at first i was all for either the double wielding boltguns or the eldar setup... remind me to steal the later idea if i ever come to doing something like that... looks so dandy^^
you are such a teases^^ and then you deliver! the bullwhip! made me punch the sky! the whip should have a force effect on it... will be difficult but since you pulled all that tiny and coollooking torn flesh to thompson i say you could do almost anything^^
(still think he needs a hat...not on his head but...you know?^^)

that necron is brutal looking...also the lego crystals are a very valuable bit for your cause!
the staff is made from gobbo parts, eh?

and concerning this lovley pice of art of a teaser poster....whoa...more, please...coolness condensed^^

so there can be dayly updates to be expected... well that is nice^^ to say the least^^

cheers matey, vik

Dah du duh daaaah, dah duh duhhhhh, dah du duh daaaah, dah du duh duuuh duuuh! The Indiana Jones theme is going to be in my head all morning now. The bull whip is amazing, and the pose is so full of character! Apologies if you've already mentioned it, but what is the base character for that conversion? I am a big fan of the 'flexing muscle, hand on hip' pose too though

Incredible work! I may also have accidentally left you some praise on my thread too... /plug

Neil, great job on this dio. I was catching up on your blog last night but was too ill to comment. The guy getting set ablaze is jaw-dropping awesome. I also really dig the sniper and your inquisitor. Your Necron Lord looks good too, but I fear he may come off a bit top-heavy. Is there anyway to suitably bulk out his legs?

Hey guys , thanks for all the feedback , glad you like Ulsheki , i was a bit unsure after so many trials. found the advice on the necron lord very usefull

@Commander Cain cheers matey , i hope i can live up to your high expaectations and as for the models , i just can help wanting to create a living breathing character, stories and all, for me the miniatures are not just gaming pieces or sculpture , they are a tool tell tell a story in a different way. your right about the necron head mate, but i wanted to add some mayan influences in their too, and i read in the fluff that only the necron lords retain some of their personality and will. my original idea was to be holding a ressurection orb and having then necrons climb from the ground harry hausen style
i will still do this but need the orb for something eles

@Vik hi mate, Glad you approve Vik it took me an age to decide which to use , i still have some more pics of different weapon options actually las pistol Dark eldar weapon etc.. i also loved the dual boltguns and the eldar power fist and old laspistol i would love to make the whip look more 40k , if you have any ideas iam all ears . and yes a hat would look cool , but not on his head i think that idea just made it into the diorama , thank you kerrching! lego crystal is cool , but i am nor sure if i shopuld go down that route though, i think i would need more to make it convincing. glad you like the graphics mate, although i wasnt happy from a design point of view , but i was tired and rushed maybe i should work on some more nicer designs maybe his coat of arms? and yep i hold true to my promises , although i should say nightly updates

@Shazo Thanks Shazo, the body is from a chaso warrior banner sprue , and the legs from dust tactics laser grenadiers, will we see something like this for your golden necros?
which has to be said has the best nceron lord conversions around in my oppionion. which every one should see http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/60/349769.page

@Scarper thanks for that now its in my head too he is a great mini isnt he , my mum buagt him for me from my local comic shop , he is from priveteer press's warmachine Captain jonas murdoch http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/units/captain-jonas-murdoch-0 and the flexing muscle pose was nearly the one until i had a moment of inspiration thanks for the praise on your coolio blog that one shouldnt miss out on , if not just to hear more of my praise http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/510/272328.page

@Moltar , get well soon matey , but i hope my plog didn't make you sick thanks for cathing up , glad you like those two , i am a bit csared of painting the flayed guy to tell you the truth , and i think you are right about the necron lord , he is too top heavy , the caoe never settled where i wanted it to , high on the left and the neck thing is too big the crotch thing has to go or become smaller , but the pics didnt help either i took another shot from his good side ( if a necron has one ) let me know what you think matey. edit looked crap so its a redesign for him

@Yggdrasil, cheers , me too i actuall wanted to see that chaos boltgun with that long stock he held , just to see what it would look like paited , i still have that hand so it might happen yet.

@ Monkey last but by no means least Wooot

so update time as promised , so its fun time in the big brother household as the boys are off on hols again , that means no leaving the table to do the school run which means more modeling time !

This guy is Fionne chief medical officer and Ulsheki's Eldar translator , those paying close attention will remember him from the valrick story , as the guy to convince ulsheki to let the boy off ship. the model is from Infinity miniatrures Ariadna he is Loup Garou Sniper http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/ariadna-miniatures.asp?offset=30
as per i did a little converting. i was a bit worried his head was too big , let me know what you think ? his position in the diorama will be under the dropship the hopefull hand

well nice update mate,

the mini is really good looking and now that i have read his fluff i also understand the eldar equip all around and on him...

what i don´t understand is the (sorry for not understanding) "carpet" thing in front of him flaying in the wind. don´t get me wrong the texture looks super and i realy like the flow of that really good GS work...but i dont know what is should be? i think the head is fine a bit big all in all but works good with the facial features and the gesture and his view. is that a head from the catachan HQ sprue? or cadian maybe...i think the haircut gives him a business like air, something i think is needed for a true worker in the team... after all the medics and translater do most of the work when not the whole bunch is having a blast in a shootout with xenos^^

can´t wait till tomorrow for next update^^

keep up that pace mate, cheers, vik

Going back a few posts, I have to praise you on the gauss flayer victim and the scarab swarm. The dynamism in your sculpts is both stunning and original.

Post by: neil101

Hey guys , just a quick one today ,

@Vik Thank you Vik, glad you could read the graphic i was a little worried it was unreadable , and i didnt save the text the carpet thing is just some random tarpauling from the dropship landing site i added it to add more movement , but i may be a bit much. not sure where this head is from i got it in a bits collection , sounds about right though! i like his hair too , infact i like this mini a lot i think he is nice and understated , he will be painted albino , and i cant wait! glad the head isnt too big

@Savnock thank you sir i often wonder if its a little too much , all the emphasis i place on movement , i think the actual sculptors would also if they didnt have the constraints of moulds, so i feel a little fortunate , thanks for stopping by matey

So 17th day update , just a small one though if Ulsheki is Indy this guy has to be Brendan fraser from the mummy
the figure is from war machine cygnar and is called alister mcain http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/warcasters/lieutenant-allister-caine-2009

introducing the 1st of only 2 models out of the bunch that i dont think needs converting , in my oppinion the sculpt is just stunning, and the figure is perfect for the role of senechal , ships master of spies , secrets and lies , as well as in charge of pretty much all stock actually i just remebered do you think i should replace the gun tips with laspistol ends?

Fionne looks great, that head works well with that pose.

Giacomo is cool, I have an allister caine figure floating about waiting to be used somewhere, but think it must be an older version, bit more static. Not sure on the pistols, normally I'd say swap the ends out, but if they're as tiny as the ones my version has it won't work well.

Post by: Viktor von Domm

COOOOooool!
"not the face....^^ well sounds like Templeton Peck ^^

his pose looks like he just skeetered in a scene to battle back to back with his comrade in arms... the mini is sweet in a very cool way...and you´ve got one more point for making him a bisexual charming hunk! thats fluffy and reminds me of one of my favorite RPG systems where bisexuality was very common... adds a very unique air to him. and makes his tradeskills all the more understandable! and what makes him really dispiceable is that he has great hair... for someone like me as a meber of the manshairclub...always unnerving...

well since you mentioned you have a second mini nearly unchanged in your making then i will eagerly await the new day^^

cheers, vik

the mini i really like... where is it from? fisrt pic i saw of him i instantly thought eldar^^ best part of the mini are his pistols and i put my full bantam wight in to let you keep them unconverted and as is! please^^

Thanks guys ,

@Monkey cheers mate, i was worried it was too big but i think it just works as vik said also. i have seen three versions of mcain , all are great , his pistols are quite big , but the laspistols nubs would still need reducing , i will photo shop and see.

Vik, yep the face man was his inspiration along with brendan fraser and captain jack harkness? from the dr who spin off , i cant remember the name .. who was also bisexual , i just think a guy who can charm anyone would be unstoppable yep he has great hair , he looks like the australian actor from la confedential and that iraq bomb disposal movie,?

@ Jackanory Thank you sir , most kind! love your work too , thanks for popping in!

@Scarper cheers matey , dont think even he could charm your warden though

so day 18 and a little update again , this guys was to give that star trek vibe i wanted in the early days , and add an air of 60's 70;s con cob chriss foss era sci fi , if the gusy are on the edge of space who knows what they would encounter EDIT oops mini from AE bounty logician arcane miniatures http://www.arcaneminiatures.co.uk/miniatures-detail.asp?ID=35396

so it is clear we hit the sifi phase now^^ that mini is a nice hommage to early fantasy/sifi stuff in the late cantury! i really like that lovley base... this will look sooo cool when painted... also i intend to steal away your mojo as to how you will do this as i am wanting to do flames for quite some time...

hmmm as for his left hand... i think there is a hand in the WFB imperial battlemage set that creates a flame... dunno if thats a lefty...i am a bit unsure to huis right hand i have to say...looks a bit too much but it depends on how the fluff explains what he is doing/having there...

gosh so many hours to wait til next update^^ (damn i didn´t want to pressurize^^)

Hey guys , got something a little different for tonights update, i took two days off the Diorama and Ulshekis retinue to create an idea i had a while back , as some of you guys know i , have been planning on creating some characters from Phallanx Hive , Baron Dysarno the Imperial commander and his retinue, the badland troubadors the Commedia del arte and the vipers brat gang , so i made a little diorama from one of these ideas

its called.....

@Jackanory , hey matey , i think your scientific scavvies big heads go lodged in my subconcious a while back , and came out as this AE bounty guy the flames were done much the same as the gauss victim ,as you will see i have a very loose some would say messy style as long as its quick and looks alright , thats where iam at

@ Pekustin He Mate got a few more in the wings yep the fluff is on a conveyor belt powered by monkey trolls grots , they just keeop churning it out and i have to buy models to go with it

Glad to hear you did some work on your "pet" , hope we see an update in your blog soon , and i am seriously having withdrawl symptoms from your fluff

@ Vik yep star trek all the way with this guy thanks for the flame hand tip i shall have a looksee , that would be cool

Nice. Keep with the down and dirty style you got going, it really suits the underhive vibe

Nice use of space with this piece.

After a while the cyber-ninja's hair started to tweak my coat-tails as it looks like she's in the middle of an action sequence, but it works, think it adds a touch of movement to the scene, so all good there

And I've been wondering where those grots got to, I've had to do my own cooking and washing.
Which, to be fair, is an improvement.

that crumbled factory set looks almost like in real life... totally bombed out, wasted beyond use, safe for one use now : the grave of one of the two...

the light setting in the last but one pic is almost like it is the sun shining through the broken roof...almost as i can see you had it taken inside your house^^
all that again in two days... don´t you need food sleep and other things in your life? whoa...seems we have to safe up for some liguide nourishment to keep you in working shape!^^

First off, those nasty little The Mummy-esque scarabs... blech... in a good way. The movie send shivers up my spine with those lil' buggers chittering... swarming... HULK SMASH!! Scrolling and stopping on the pictures did much the same... good stuff!

Second- love the use of the Infinity ninja in the industrial complex fight- I don't know what side they are, only that it's Infinity and a ninja. AWESOME. I like the colors- purple and black. Sweet.

Neil, you are the rust meister! It is incredible how you get things to look so rusty, beaten, and well weathered over. Hats off to you!

Do you do a lot of spraying on that wall per chance?

Neil that looks ace. I really love the rust effect. The two models work well together too.

Hi all , thanks for the motivational comments

so this more of an ideas update than an actual look what i have been doing update i have to keep it short though as i have to pack , going to whitby for a nice 3day caravan camping break with the family

@scrazza thanks

@Mike Thank you , i was'nt very happy with the pose so i am glad it works for you mate i kinda thought he is looking the wrong way

@Chibi yep that would be funny, cheers matey

@Monkey yes i think this suits my style , i have a few more ideas i want to do with this simple quick and dirty style too .
thanks for noticing the space thing , i thought it was a little daring tbh , but it works
and yes the hair is just not that right , but niether is the mutants pose either , my original idea was a little different and i dont think i seperated the two well enough.

@Vik total mutie munda recall, i dont normally like using the flash but it worked in that last pic , and as for not needing rest , well its been a while since i poseted so , i think i had it cheers matey

@Perkustin thanks matey , industrial waste is my new middle name cyber ninjette is from infinity like izanagi said, their models are small but nicely detailed.

@Jackanory thanks , i have some wip shots will post in a miniute matey , i just sprayed black, used a artist tube of brown acrylic , so i can be wastefull , to sponge on rust , then boltgun metal highlights , then pastels for rust . very simple and quite effective, its much the same process as the tank a few pages earlier , but withou the the salt / hairspray weathering. I also use liquid nails and plenty of it to get that sludge effect on walls and the floor , then i used some wet effect from woodland secenics for the water. though varnish does the same job.

@Moltar thanks man , i had to paint better becuase the minis are so detailed , even smaller than the perry miniatures , but i used only washes on the cyber ninjette , after seeing weety and monkeys work , and same for the muties face. gonna tone down the scale of things and work much more like this from now on.

@manoknok glad you like mate , and feel free , all ideas are fluid right..

@hfizanagi hi matey , glad the scarbs did their job . i like the thought of doing a simple animation with the scroll idea , i was going to do it with the perry horeses actually to get the immpression of movement. , keep studying mate , or you will end up like me

@mike // yo man i got 12 kids to feed ...remember the three nipples mutey

@shazo cheers shazo

@Pdh yep, and thanks .

that was a lot of nice replies now i have to work even faster before my internet dies , and i get shouted at by Amber

so just wanted to show where my heads at at the moment . no real time to explain this stuff , so feel free to interpret it how you want

confrontation necromunda wiki http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Necromunda_Confrontation i will say i think i found a tenous link with the history of brats in confrontation. with the brats bizzare comic by pat mills http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=301534 they where both out around the same time , and look like one has copied an idea from the other , not sure which way round it was though. promotional qoute "The government-backed program sends the Superkind to bring the Brats back to "the Hive" and chaos ensues!"

also found a cool blog over at the eastern fringe http://easternfringe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6166

also found this pic in kid kyotos gallery

if you have not guessed yet i am thinking about doing the viper noble brat gang i like the thought of using the anima tactics models for the noble brats as they have that spoilt rich look and nice movement in their poses unlike the old gw brats that are pretty rare and pricey, and they look good but also a bit sterile.
found another nice link with some cool looking confrontation brats

Hey guys holiday was .....pants Amber and Logan both suffered from a stomach bug , Rohan threw up on the way there, the caravan was in a smelly farmers field , too far from the beach , down a really busy and dangerous clifftop road not that you would have wanted to go tho the beach in the Hail stones rain and gusting blizzards , so in between cleaning sick emptying the caravan chemical waste unit and sheltering from the wind rain and hail bored out of our skulls , i decided that camping or caravaning at the coast is not really for me , these days its taken 3 days to recover although we found some nice fosils for diorama basing

But recover i did , and i have been researching the more grimadark aspects of 40k for the upcomming Old Ulsheki mini , that i shall present in ma blog now, he has already been in the rpg blog , but i have bigger plans for him now , and have really enjoyed looking at adepts , servo skulls and the like. i have created a little diorama base as a backdrop for the photos of him and also as a base for the flying servo skull. i thought i would post up the insperational pics i have been looking at . And some useful links.

@Scrazza , yep mate something Tallern is in my head , and has been for a while not sure when it will come out though.

@Peter yes she is ! lots of ideas at the moment nothing concrete yet.

@Vik Hiy mate, lots of ideas , buts thats all they are for the moment , i am changing tack with my aproach to modeling for now , i think i should concentrate on one little thing at a time , to try and get a better qaulity ,, this is me learning patience. and its not smoke or finger prints just light matey
brats will be bright i think.

@ Weety thanks weets , i tried washing those minis after seeing you and monkeys work, very happy with the results .

so i still need to make an Adept for the diorama , it will be a custom sculpt as i think it will be fun then the fun painting will begin.

welcome back to the fold matey, you have been missed^^

so the seaside is not so good to visit this time of the year...to tell you the truth you was pretty envious about your trip...little did i know that the feeling it seems to be pretty wasted as you told us the trip was in most parts a fiasko...i hope your family is now again feeling better...my best wishes to your loved ones...

if perkustin hadn´t pointed out that there are now young vs older versions of your RT mini i wouldn´t have thought that way... seems i can be pretty dense some days^^

the servoskull is rather disturbing...in a good sense...full of top notch GS skill i might add^^ also ulsheki is one heck of a GS beauty... the creases and folds of his clothes look superb! and i really dig the flow of his cape, very dynamic!

the adeptus minis are somehow reflecting for me the more perverse nature of 40k...personaly i wouldn´t get me anytime at all such a mini, but i can still admire these when they are done in a good fashion^^
and i like your provided links, and felt also a pang of pride to even know one of them from an advanced training session sponsored by our reemplayment department...the colorwheel link! i think this is something every painter should take a look at...most helpful!

so again: nice to have you back and hope to see more soon^^

Just read your post about your hols (sorry was distracted by the pics) it's sounds like an 80's farce movie. If it were, you would be John cleese or possibly Chevy Chase depending on which side of the pond.

Aye up guys and gals its been a while since i updated , Now dont get me wrong, its not that i didnt want to , just the stuff i am working on is mainly theory and not good for pics .

@Perkustin , Cheers , glad you like the wings , i really enjoyed making them , pretty simple really , just roll out some green stuff, super glue one bit to the body and pick it out like afro hair until its nice and messy As for the old and young idea, i have noticed , in necromunda , the juve to adult vibe , and the history associated with the character must be , really cool in game .

@ Hey Mate, well no sooner than i was back i went away again well , metaphorically speaking . Haha glad the colour , nudged your pride button. it really is a usefull tool.
and well you know i like the grimmer darker aspects of 40k , so the perverted mechadendrite boys hardly suprise you no doubt. Ulsheki still needs his paint , and my brushes are getting dusty. so them cloak folds may get a cover sonner or later

@Monkey Cheers monkey. the hols were rubbish , but i did manage to grab a few nice piccies before the weather turned , so it wasnt all a lost cause i think my painting thirst is growing again. so soon as i finish this new project , iam sure to start again

@Baiyuan Thank your sir, i feel a gothic simple two tone blsck and white theme would suit him , with his face and coat trim giving the only hint of colour. but thats because iam a lazy painter

@Peter, yep permenant holiday scarring for the boys is ensured ....my job as a father is done well soon as i clean away my work area i will be adding some colour again. It turns out i am very easily distracted... go figure

@Thanks Manoknok, hope your redcoats are comming along too matey i need some napoleonic insperation for the praxian guard.

@Thank you shazo , your too kind

@scarper nightmare production is my new middle name ... i think i have several now. Thanks Scarper , and for the gentle blog prompt too

@Major Tom, Yep Blanch is my spiritual guide in this crazy world of saints and sinners. a meastro on a motorbike, or a harlequin on a harly , although , i guess he probably drives a big 4by 4 and wears suits now ... oh blanche how i miss the gnarly days of yore , when life was a simple dream of bolter hail and gubbinz'z.

Okay enough of that... so as i was saying , its been a while and i started a new project to create a board game that me and the boys can play in a few hours. Now that sounds simple enough , until you add that iam a compulsive research addict and hadnt really thought out how i wanted the game to play. So i had a few ideas and Bailey helped me out their too.
Idea 1

4 player game on a diamond shaped board , where you play one of the 4 chaos gods disciples . the aim of the game is to kill or recruit your enemies into your pantheon,
miniture required 2 cultists one truescale csm and one chaos sorceror per player.
It quickly became clear that the csm would be far too powerfull , and i wasnt sure about which direction to take the game after that. so i dropped that idea and returned to a more simple 4 player death match type game.

Idea 2
Necromunda deathmatch . I decided a death match style game could really work well within a hive setting, like an advanced pitslave fight , within a specially cosntructed maze like environment, overlooked by upspyrers . This would give me the oppertunity to pick up some long sought after necro minis and give the boys a nice way of joining in the fun of collecting and painting .

I opted for Upspyer noble brats...what eles
Rohan , whos schhol athletic nickname is hercules ( as he can chuck the medicine ball the furthest ) opted for the goliaths ...very apt!
Logan the van saars , i had already picked up a few of these so it made sense .
Bailey opted for the Ratskins

thus started a mad two weeks of ebaying to find 4 of each models , i wanted a leader a heavy , a ganger and a juve each. and lets just say ebay is a terrible thing for a man with little self discipline so now instead of a simple 12 models in total , 30 necro minis stand on the table top. the necro minis are so cool though, i hadnt ever owned any necro minis , even in my youth , when confrontation first came out, so i was very excited to pick up two brat gangers and and the cool ratskins and van saar , even the chumpy steroid goliaths look better in the reality than i had expected . which were much cheaper to buy direct from games workshop than trying to find on ebay and you get a cool selection of necro weapons too. I dont plan on converting any of the gangers , except for the two identical brats

So the simple board game rules started flow into my head , keep the rules fast and simple, was my motto. But i was led astray by fantastic scenery and sci fi environments in coputer games like killzone and halo. and what started off as a simple 2d board became a 3d nightmare , i even incorporated working machanical parts , but alas , i bit off more than i could chew , and several stressfull days and a fair few headaches later , i decided that a simple 3d game was going to be unworkable for me. I had wanted to use a squre based map to speed up gameplay. and it wasnt happening. along wit too many cool ideas , i was swamped in a cardboard and blutack mess flailing and failing to do anything.
ao back to basics , i started again with the idea to create a tile based , sort of 3d hive map. it will be on one level but should be able to generate different envrionments from the set when complete. I am depserately sorry to see some of the cool ideas go , like the upspyer nobles looking down on the games from their gilted balconies, and the individualised sections , of the map , all mad max style for the goliaths , killzone sci fi , for the van saar, and grotty underhive for the ratskins but i had to make a descision , fantastic scenery that i probably wouldnt complete until next year , and the be too burnt out to be bothered with it, or a plain board quick and simple, no glamour , but no emotion either
well like most things in life , the answer was o compromise , hopefully i can still do justice to the map sections whislt keeping gameplay firmly at the forefront.

wow, i totally see how that must have ruined your plans to not make that multistoreyed gameboard...but i think in the end this would have been a killer for someone else as the rules clearly would benefit only some of the gangs... the working enviroment idea i would like to see...tho i think an actual moving one would be too much...more like a clear outlined structure of vents and powercables that could be used as indirect weapons and of course weaponplatforms as direct weapons too...maybe even add some crates to be tossed around and such things like sewerentraces around the perimeter...this all could be done by simply making tiles like the old spacequest or rather dungeon quest tiles of said games...

seeing all those miniature pipes and railings and buildings put in place it is no wonder that you were seldom seen in this realm here^^...

as you try to make buildings/nests for each gang, will the game be set as a kind of capture the flag setup? this could be the maingoal then or if someone feels daring enough a killpoint solution as well...and of course with all the enviroment it can have numerous objectives as well...

i hope to see more of this new project of yours soon!

cheers, and don´t be a stranger....well at least for not too long^^

Eventually I'd like to do something a little like Pulteney Bridge in Bath, England.

Hey folks, not got much work done today , i tidied up a bit finished painting the inquisitower details finally. thanks for the encouragement .

@vik really looking forward to this project now i have a clear goal. I had several ideas for game types , to encourage full use of the board. Each section would have its own major setback to avoid camping that the opposing team can set off , like venting gas , or releasing a hoard of underhive zombies!! pitrap like floors that lead into deadly pitfights and arbite enforcer patroles . acheiving a certain amount of kills will enable bonus's like a ratskin plague rat swarm or a brat yeld spyrer, their will be constant danger that forces you to choose between deadly jumps or open areas with no cover. all teams will start with no ammo and has to collect from a centrall dump. explosive barrels lockable doors and barier building will also be part of the fun hopefully ;-)

@ logan cheers matey . and cool name too ;-)

@ pdh ( armless ....shakes head ) cheers Peter. sorry peter that model is dismantled now, although the picture should be zoomable, its a bisto gravy tub with a small tube atop it and a rip off cheap bionicle copy toy from tk max , and then a lego undewater piece . oh and a lascannon
i really like the floating buulding idea , unforyunately i had to give up on it for this project , i think it seperated the upspyrerers from underhive quite well , but after i added the mechanics for the carousel , it just didnt work. check out this canterlevr house

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Zwd9wB2vaE0/TOuJ9afVoeI/AAAAAAAABoo/AgIXABctsRU/s1600/1-crazy-house-527.jpg

@weety glad you aprove weets

@Good green , i was the same , the big poly blocks really help visualise depth and structure, but then fail to realise the tiny details that make models look believable and cool.

@ Peter , well since it was your walkway i had in mind when putting these things together , i really look forward to seeing your vision. That bridge is really emotive and romantic, in a squalid type of way . It also reminds me of the Old london bridge

Hey Neil.

Those pictures make me sad. Because the scale is massive it means I'll never be able to build something that large. Because of this picture I now also want running water leaking from above on my eventual board:

Thanks for the link to the image below...I really don't understand the point of building like that in the real world though? Anyone have any ideas?

I really like the contradictions of Pulteney Bridge. On the one side you have beautiful architecture and the other you have an unsightly mess. I feel that would work ever so well in the 40k setting.

As for Zooming in on your pictures. When I click in them they just open as an image rather than in the Dakka gallery. But I did it the hard way, I waded though the 1148 images in your gallery and found the pic. I also got reminded about some of your cool stuff from pages ago so it was actually a good thing.

I also found this, which I must have missed, and though how very cool:

What range is the model from?

Now to the harsh, uninformed and barbed criticism of your works..............ahhh..........nope that's all lovely, and that, oh god this is all so nice.

Nothing for it then but sycophantic ravings............... I love what you've been doing, it's amazing and puts me and my lack of progress to real shame. I like your guard (understatement). The miniatures are excellent to start with but you've managed to GrimDark them with minimal fuss; creating a truly believable and cohesive 40K force. Although they're all a bit too tall for my liking! (All my scenery and cover is the 'correct height' which leads to bigger armies feeling rather exposed.. cunning heh?)

Please keep this thread up, as it will continue to inspire and motivate me even when I'm not capable of achieving something myself. Oh and I suppose other people may take some interest

Stay GrimDark

Hey you mean bunch of so and so's I dont know , talk about peer pressure I have been a lazy boy , and have finally got around to finishing halo reach , which santa brought for bailey at last year Really like the Halo series , actually . the story line is very engaging. and the scenes in both halo reach and kill zone 3 are visually stunning. and makes me want to build beautiful environments that make your jaw drop. Alas i have no space for those grande visions . so like weety and Peter , they shall have to remain in the imagination.

and so on to the begrugdingly small update i suppose i should of taken this oppertunity to show some of the boys models bailey based a rather nice dragon and goblin rider a while back that i wanted to share , with you guys... speaking dragons , does anyone remember this old animated movie

its been in my subconscious for a while, i thought it was really cool when it first came out... lol

@commander cain Thanks mate, i love concept art , its a great combination of immagination fantasy and technical skill, i am constantly humbled by the talent that people seem to have in the creative world. i think Junk is worrd your looking for

@Peter sorry the wait for the reply matey That image you referenced is beautiful , it would be so very cool to play on a board like that , but its also eqally cool just to admire the fantastic art work involved abnd its mood, it would be very difficult if not impossible to recreat the mood of that piece as scenery , this is what makes me sad as for the canterlever house , it was i grain store i believe , not sure why its like that , maybe to fit the grain trucks underneath ? and the model , or Giacomo My rogue r=trader senechal is from war machine cygnar , and is called allister mcain , there are 3 versions of him all look really good.
http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/cygnar/warcasters/lieutenant-allister-caine-2009
sorry about the trawl through the gallery mate

@ santobell sorry matey , you got the wrong mini easy mistake to make though , both are great and similar. see below

@Monkey Hi monkey, and your more than welcome about the references , its nice to be able to share with peeps that appreciate what i like too , so i feel not so bad spending most days researching basing the board on the 3d space hulk type affairs that are aplenty in our genre. but a bit more grubby hopefully

@Dances with sqauts.. Hey Dance! good to see ya mate glad you found leutnant weety Dance ! he has been waiting for your approval a while Sorry you have been not feeling to great mate, But if you will insist on those vicious fights in the underhive Thank you for the kind compliments on the Praxian guard , i feel like i have abbandoneed them somewhat of late to glory hunt all those nice minis i said i wouldnt need . But you inspired me to work on them again, i was going to paint up Leutnant Weety Dance , but i came across a few others before i got to him but he will have a lick off paint in due course , and then he can go into battle hiding under a some half cover , and claim it to be full
Well i wouldnt want to cross you mate so i guess the blog will stay.... not that i was gonna take it down just getting a bit slow to update in my old age
glad you stopped by and gald you liked the stuff , thanks for reading the whole thing ... Impressed!!, and get well soon , or i will send the noble ninth around .... Stay.. erm.. er .....Short!

@Weety Hey Weets , You and me both would be cool to work on a joint project on a huge scale with other talented Dakkites, i found this link whilst researching mad max for Rohans goliaths , and stumbled across this website
http://www.madmaxmovies.com/mad-max-beyond-thunderdome/filming-locations/sydneyscape-model-set/index.html
and these pictures

Kinda makes me want to work in the film industry

@Vik it was the anniversery of the guy who wrote these childrens books , and i thought it was quite apt for me at the moment

@Monkey , Oww i kinda feel all warm a fuddley now , Thanks for missing me You big hairy Jokaero And thank for all the nice posts Peeps , you all made me feel very ... erm wanted

@ Vik sorry matey , well guess i better start painting again , now wheres monkeys grots got too..!

so i did a liitle bit of work , i put sonme details on the inquisi tower , and made some harry potter style wands with the boys, i also stated painting Actaeon... finally so i am feeling the Praxian Vibe again, hope to do some more writing again soon too.
Thanks for all the comment folks

"poor MR Lazy" well this is what i use from now on when adressing you neil when i feel you are a bit behind your own schedule^^ lol...that was a nice cartoon there... watched it in one go...(seldom here as most of the times boring stuff gets shown^^) also i liked the flight of the dragons vid...in the credits it said it even got james earl jones...the man and the VOICE...! cool...

your tower looks very nice now with added details...did you use average screws for detailwork on the upper sections or did i only got that wrong? your Actaeon is coming along nicley... the muted blue is something of a looker! also like how you added lasconon wires as horns^^
so you crafted with yon youngsters some wands... i really think they came out exellent...but ever since that wich of an author killed off dumbledore the potter scene died for me as well... tho i did read the last book of hers as well only hoping he would be raised from the dead...insted she killed yet another of my favorite chars...i hope she never ever gets around publishing another book... not that she needs to anyway...being britains at least second wealthiest woman...but aside from my nerdrage...very good looking wands! compliment your sons!!!

and by the way... enjoyed your artist inspirational pics too and the madmax pics are truly inspiring too!

cheers mate and don´t be a strager to yer own thread^^

@Shazo , sorry about that i do like nice dramatic camera shots thanks for the compliments mate.

@Vik Yes Mr lazy is my new middle name glad you liked the vids mate. i remember you saying your not a fan of the JK anymore , well the boys are in the potter phase, and have been reading all the books of late , just finishing off with the half blood prince, as the already read the last one
the tower could do with more work really but its fine as a building , i think . glad you like the references too mate.

i just had to share with you guys these amazing scale models , i have never seen seen anything on this scale before , i found them on this website which has a list of great city dioramas from around the world, just scroll down to the blue links under the chicago pics also google scale model cities

http://www.buildyourownchicago.com/modelcity.html

this one is for sale for 3 million apparently

http://englishrussia.com/2006/08/27/moscow-city-for-sale-price-3m/

this one from shanghai in 2020 is supposed to be the largest scale model in the world

I was looking at those pictures and the first thing to come to me after being a little lost for words was "I wonder what will actually be in shanghai where the supporting collums for the floor are?"

The amalgamation of large reptilion and techno junk has me wondering what mated with what. It looks cool though... the colour scheme is good so far and the base is wicked.

Actaeon's teknosaurus is looking great

Nice job on the Inq tower, nice to see it again

As to the model layouts - do you think they'd let us play epic on them

Don't actually recall 'Flight of Dragons' though the narrating wizard looks really familiar.

THIS IS WHAT YOU PRODUCE WHEN YOU'RE WORKING ON 'MAINLY THEORY'? :O

Absolutely LOVE all your 3D terrain, it's painful, but for a game intended to be easy to follow I think you were right to simplify it. It's so easy to get ambitious with building, and your results are beautiful. Feel free to send me all the extra stuff you made ! Really like where you were going with the tunnels and water effects - do you think you'll carry on with the board at some point? Or is it detined for the attic for a little while?
Love all the inspirational pictures too - I really enjoy just trawling through your thread occasionally just for the stunning artwork in your concept composites

Great to see you updating again - apologies for the unsubtle nudges!

Hey folks , I managed to finish Actaeon today , i had a fair few problems with the painting of the lizards skin , failed pattern work , and not much detail, forced me to really try hard with this piece. I am very happy with the bold colours , though , i think its quite tricky making grimdark mechanicus , dinosaurs and bright napleonics work together i did a really nice dino pattern , but because the model is so busy , it clashed like a xmas jumper so i had to repaint , this in turn led to a problem with detail , as their wasnt much to begin with on the dino( heroscape )model , i tried to solve this with highlights and wash's it works better on his good side , but over all i wasnt happy with the qaulity of this effect , in future a higher quality dinosaur will be required any hooow, i do like the model and he looks cool on the table top especially from above. Actaeon has some colour at last , he will make a fine Arch enemy of Valrick now. Watch this space for the final instalment of his story.

@Baiyuan i read up on the shanghai one it was something like 150 artists for a year straight.

@Lil Loser , i know what yuo mean matey , kinda puts every thing you ever saw to shame in some ways and welcome to the jungle , we got fun and games

@que evil laughter

@peter, i thought that too typical 150 artists millions of pounds and a years work , and we still critisize well thats dakka for you and thanks matey

@Perkustin Cheers Perky , good to hear fom you again matey, i notice you now have the afformentioned mojo back in its rightfull place too

@Monkey thankyou sir, as for the tower i had to brush off a layer of dust a cm thick shame you cant get dust jackets for models well we can only ask about the epic gameplay , we could say its a world record for charity , but knowing the chinese goverment , that wouldnt immpress probably, we would be locked up for spreading grimdark fantasies no doubt. well do you remeber monsters and mazes then? with tom hanks

@Scarper, Thank you for the usubtle nudges , it worked obviously glad your still enjoying the plog matey , i do like to waffel on , and its good to know its not always to myself

so the villanous Acteon has arrived.. C&C most welcome.... well except for Baiyuan.. ( kidding )
Many thanks to Monkey Vik and perksutin in the development stages of this guy , i really appreaciate the advice you gave

seems the steed of actaeon got first dibs on some of the best purity seals they produce in the manufactorum...very nice and small writing on those...brush or micropenwork?

and did i see some hints on the base of nerons there or did i imagine things only?^^

the base is really col and worn looking, you`re a scrap man and i do mean this with all due respect!

Hey guys, cheers ,
@Perky thanks matey they are comming along now , i am really enjoying the feel of these guys , they are so petite and colourful. the blue is actually turquiose but doesnt really show up too well.

@Vik yep he is ill , acetone is a fitting name too, and as we both know scrap and junk are what i do best , my painting skill is only very gradually improving , but i think my colour theory is better than it was.

so just to let you guys know their will be another fluffy Acteaon post later today if i get my ass in gear , and just to recap here is whats happed so far...

Diary Entry 9th semester 4th Cycle 28thth lunar 009M42
Captain Actaeon

By the Emperor ! Can these Vulgus do any job right? If I am to be selected for promotion to Hunt Major , I will be dammed if I shall turn up looking like a serf ! Is it too much to ask , to expect one's uniform to be cleaned to a presentable standard .I shan't be seen unkempt . We are not all content to be seen sporting ragged coveralls , or the limp robes of the scruffy Mechanicus.
If this happens again I fear I shall not be responsible for my actions!

My attacker has a name now, Valrick A newly commissioned officer of the hunt no less ..cough.. he has fled to the Vulgus quarter apparently. As soon as I am fully recuperated , I think I shall pay him a visit.

Diary Entry 11th semester 4th Cycle 3rd lunar 009M42
Major Actaeon

Great news, My injuries are fully healed. My new ocular appendage , is working much more efficiently than my previous eye. My greatest thanks go to the imperial Enginseer ( and to think I once looked down on the freaks in red ) And to top it off , The commissar has promoted me to Hunt Major . My first task was to create a Noble riders company dedicated to myself first and foremost. I named them Riders De la Morte for their duty will be to seek the death of my would be murderer VALRICK ! Emperor save those that try to stand in my way.

Diary Entry 11th semester 4th Cycle 8th lunar 009M42

Bah! Damb and blast. Buggering feth! Filthy gutterscum! Valrick has escaped me!
Those damnable bloody filthy hive bottom gaks warned that feral monkey and his mangy hound that we warranted him! I was this bloody close. I could smell his fething stinking hound , his pungent scent is in my BLOOD! I will have my revenge on this coward. I have asked the apatus Provendum to withdraw rations to this sector. I guess the rank of Major has some useful privileges.
My men have started questioning those thought culpable in his , desertion. Its paramount I wrap this up presently , I am already behind on my new found responsibilities. The quicker I have him in custody the better. He cant evade me forever.

Diary Entry 11th semester 4th Cycle 13th lunar 009M42

These bloody headaches, will they ever cease, I have had no success in tracking down the Criminal Valrick. , his accomplices are doing a fine job of hiding him amongst their own. And the ridiculous
Arbite, judge Lion , refuses to send in her enforcers , what is the point of an Imperial Arbite if not to help capture Criminals and subjugate unlawful citizens? “Its not my jurisdiction” bah! Do I have to do everything myself. The only positive to come from this weeks , fruitless endeavours, is the Vulgus have started to react to the rationing...hits em where it hurts.. well if no one else shall help I think I shall speed up the progress. I have ordered my riders of death, to enforce the curfew. Someone must know where he is ?

Diary Entry 11th semester 4th Cycle 15th lunar 009M42

Ha! I knew it ! If he was in the city I would have had him by now. Valrick has fled to the wilds. I have conformation. The young Corporal Talien beat the truth out of a rioting Vulgus after curfew . This boy has potential. Well the Vulgus didn’t know where he was exactly ,if he did he took it to his grave!
If it weren’t for these confounded headaches I would be out their right now. the medics say its probably the Occular implant. Some times it takes a while to settle in . The Commissar has asked me to Organise a ceremonial Hunt for the Young heir, Antal . I told him if he could just wait a few more days I shall be fully focused on the job. I have to find his lair soon. But, If I cant have the man I shall have his friends... I ride with the Morte tonight, we shall feast on the dead, and I shall have my revenge.

Cheers Vik

So something a bit special tonight..... I am working on Acteaons fluff at the moment , some may remeber in the form of a diary , well , i wanted to have have a visual story for what happens to him that fatefull night he rides with the De La Morte and faces his arch enemy Valrick! So i put together a series of sequential art to illustrate what happened that night.
The rest of the story will be probably back to the diary to show his progression from stable and noble officer , into gibbering mechanicus servitor.

Thanks for reading

I like that one too mate, although they are not drawn as such , all the images are from royalty free sources that i have messed around with , i have added a fair few hand drawn bits , but mostly they are old napoleonic paintings and photos. , i was gonna draw them but to tell the truth i liked this effect more for this story. the horses are form the victorian muybridge horse photo collection lol, with added chainlaces and silly hats though.

Aye up ! glad you like peeps , i really enjoyed making them and they were relativley quick to make too! only took two days , unlike the hand drwn comic pages that took one week per page ! saves time not actually having to draw .... who da thought!! :/ not so keen of the second page , as that was the 1st one i made , but so long as thestory gets through .. mind you it wasnt a complex tale though ...lol
man sees vulgus man chases vulgus , man sees wolf the end!

@ Perky qoute " Nothing is awesome without 'added chainsaws and silly hats' though.... " i was gonna sig that when i realised i didnt have space

@Vik Cheers mate, glad you like , i know what a tough critic you are on comics i dont use a tablet , i wish i had one , but then i would probably want a more recent version of photoshop than 5.5 thats 1995 to everyone bloody virus's !! i would like to make more images , and will probably go back to line work as its more versatile , this worked because the story was really simple imo ( whats Kidney story telling mate ) but if its what i did then i will try but you know me i am a lazy bugger sometimes

@LiLloser hey LL thanks for checking it out mate, qoute " Thank you for the putting in the effort" your welcome matey i would love to say it was all for me and i dont care what other peeps say , but their is something about dakka that makes you quite anxious for your work to be like d by your peers ... well for me anyhow so THANK YOU for taking the time to comment mate, it means a lot when your proud of something doesnt it and as for "SEQUENTIAL ART" well you got me bang to rights thats my contemporary art degree saying hello right there And your not the first to call me a snob although your fisrt to say kidding normally pretentious gakker why are you wearing a skirt or do you call that art must be my privelleged upbringing

and speaking of great blogs you Blog is pretty AMAZING if i say so myself http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/30/337010.page your pretorians are just sublime , PEEPS SHOULD CHECK IT OUT !!

No problem. It's praise well deserved.

And thanks for the plug, and the friend request. I feel we will be dating soon, inside each other, then married forever and ever.

I understand the sequential art thing. I'm a huge dork myself about classifications or comic books, graphic novels and any sequential art form. I wrote my final year dissertation on literature and the holocaust, and I wrote a chapter on Maus.

I'd love to see more sequential art in this blog. The more abstract the better!

@Baiyuan Cheers Baiyuan I have wanted to draw comics as long as i have played with miniatures , so it was enevitable that the two would cross eventually , i did some more stuff earlier on in the blog , infact you could say the story for Praxus and its charaters is actually more important to me than the miniatures themselves , i dont see it as fluff really , i see it as an oppertunity to tell a story , and I am a story teller...cue music

I feel very lucky to have found a creative outlet in dakka , where i can share my thoughts and ideas with other creative folks , and i feel i have an unwritten book inside me , that escapes bit by bit in every new character i create. This is compounded by the fact i dont game with my minis , so i feel like i need a reason to create them. Stories for me is that reason.
Every thing i do is orientated towards telling a story , and i feel . frustrated that i dont do it more ... but compared to painting and converting for me its bloody hard !! and doesnt really get the credit it deserves , ( anyones fluff ) just look at the fan fiction section , harldy a soul enters but thats because this is a modeling forum and not a writing , art or comic forum doing it as a comic , will hopefully make the stories more accessible to casual readers. and i rarely have the inpetus to do as much as i know i should. It feels good to be back to Praxus again , and i only hope that i shall eventually present the story of Antal Adalaise here eventually.
but for now a few short stories for the surrounding peeps will suffice.

I think you should revisit doing that comic you mentioned at the start. You can set it in the 40kverse and submit to Black Library.

No harm in trying!

@vik like swans in a lake

@ Manoknok , yep i still need to write it out completely , so i ahve a script to work on, but i really would like to finish it . It was always set in the 40k universe though , just not the one set in stone like it is nowadays , the one from my youth that was always in flux and still in its creationist stage , where new worlds popped up every other week.

i like the idea of a meta storyline that is brewing and growing with your personality ever since you came intothe writing/playing scene...thus you could collect lots of inspirationa and the final product will be ripe with ideas and insights...

Delightful little intro clip, besides the lack of a legitimate stereotype of clothing for America

But yeah, the idea of telling a story is a really cool thing to merge with your force. The past is essential for any sort of force like these, like how I have Imperial Guard with a background of serving a Rogue Trader. Having their origins really allows a person to build a force based more for what would be made, not as just another army but one with individuality, one with purpose, a rather more realistic (insert disclaimer/ suspense of disbelief here) force with their own quirks and oddness.

Keep the cool up- Kaesar II

I can relate Neil, I'm a story teller too, that's why it kind of saddens me that my necromunda projects don't leave that much room for stories. Gaming has become less and less important to me over the years, I enjoy it no doubt, but it's the story around the game that makes it real good.
I have lots of narrative projects on my endless list of things to do and I'll get back to these once my necromunda hype has cooled down a little. Most prominently there is that novel I started writing some time ago and the twenty 54mm miniatures I have started/planned conversions to create the most important characters of the book in the flesh/putty/metal.
Now I understand why you said that two days was relatively short time to come up with your "sequential art", most people don't care that much about their creations, more like "there is this guy and he has weapons an' all, great story, ain't it?".
I hope there will be more yours and that I can show you some of mine too any time soon.

May be completely wrong, but the line was, "in England I am John."
Think the series was European and dubbed into various lingos.
This is obviously the intro for the US version

apart from that was there some sweet doings in Neil's thread?

Aye up fellow monkies of da trolling variety

( So had a busy week this week , apart from boarding up our dining room window from a long overdue accident with football , Bailey and fate ( 30 mins ago ) obviously not 30 mins ago if your reading this long after i posted )
I have started work on Actaeons 2nd chapter ..YAY That was all you at the back yaying btw. Especially Monkey who i know is reading this when he should be doing something far more productive with his time

@Vik Cheers mate i hope so the stuff iam working on at the moment is tying together several elemants of Praxian history, there should be some cross over with The 1st Praxus comic when done.

@Lord Kaesar II America obviously had not enough stereotypes for the animators to draw[i] upon .... Nah ! i think Chibi has it spot on.

@PDH , WOOT Royalties hand over yer teef ! Thanks Peter glad you like it mate. If you and Vik carry on i shall have to creat proper proportioned screen savers

@Vik I took it to the bank , but it had become a artsy wine bar and the post office had shut down ! ( Social In joke for the UK )

@Baiyuan Many thanks Baiyuan , i can tell your a story teller just from your minis actually , they tell a great story , all the ones you have shown What was you novell about mate? maybe you could send me what you have ? i would enjoy reading no doubt . I have several stories to complete too , none 40k related , but all sci fi , My favourite is about a young man who suffers seizures after starting a new school , but with which he travels to different realities , eventually he lives out many lives , in these other realities and becomes rich in knowledge from his travels , this translates into power , and as we all know , power corrupts.
Its acool idea to create minis 54mm minis form your unriwritten story. I find that all my ideas change by the time i come to write them down. they get used up in other project too, kinda recycled .

@Chibi what..? there are Sweets in my threads

So apart from working on Acteaons story , i also ordered and recived some battle field scenics tufts , highland and swamp , they look pretty good and i look forward to basing some Praxians with it. i thought all the mud was abit much http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/Army-Painter/Battlefield-Scenics/Swamp-Tuft/prod_10387.html

I also got a rather nice suprise in the mail , that i totally forgot about! Well some readers will be aware that a while ago i enterd a dakka competition to write death skulls orky poetry ! if such a thing can exsist well I won and The talented EyeOfHorus who ran the comp offered a painted ork of your choice as prize i chose Badrukk and he arrived out of the blue yesterday. Many thanks to EyeOfHorus for his kind generosity .

very cool links... it is rather depressing to see humans had to live that way...should give us all a humble feeling of gratitude as to where we currently live...and that we (the ones that can communicate via internet) have it good...way better than nay of those poor and misstreated souls that lived there...

that kowloon aka walled city gave me the willies...no escape and you have to claw yourself through gak and gravel and other bodies to make a living..or better a dieing...

did i get your fluff information right? 30 million living on praxus and 23 of those 30 live in praxus prime the capital city... so the rest of the population is spread rather loosely over the better part of the planet?...big citylife...in fact such a big city... they never sleep, as this city cant have enough bed for all...^^

by the way... needless to say that the artwork looks verrrry cool, totally official and also i like all those neat tine tie-ins to the rest of your fluff!

and i raise my shoota in RESPECT for da next grim dark cookie kronikles! been waitin`for ages, heck lifetimes for a new part of that saga!!!

cheers mate!

your fan vik

(and on a side note...a highly collectible screensaver by yours truly?hmmmm...but how could i benefit from that... i would never be able to read your posts again after i unplugged my mouse...)

Hey Vik , Yep rather depressing , but facinating too. apparenetly no natural light reached the floor, so you had to run miles of cables through the bottom layers , for electric light. The diogram of kowloon is fantastic imo , pure art , that i will no doubt rip off at some point . Glad you like the Hydra system picture mate, it took quite a while. But i have a newer addition of photoshop and illustrator , so i can be a bit more adventurous .. yippee!
GDCK , i actually was waiting for this mini to continue believe it or not , i had wrote him in to the script , so i had to wait ...
but now i can continue. and yes 23 million in praxus prime
The other continents are sparsley populated , it was one big farm really. its produce changed from grox herding to praxa flower cultivation.

rather depressing , but facinating too

it is in the negative mostly that we get fascinated in...sometimes it is possible to have a positive fascination but mostly the other...

appernetly no natural light reached the floor, so you had to run miles of cables through the bottom layers
...those chineese we have much to learn from...if all else fails how not to do it in the real world...^^ on tabletop you could show us all you wanted... saw recently a female fox...^^ and i say we live in the post modern days so anything goes... for a given value of anything^^

is it worng to get a salivating feel for GDCKs....?^^ also i just realised that the GDCK abbreviation reminds me of the one of the DKoK...lol...

and good to hear you upgraded your graphic tools... this is a benefit for all your followers^^

I remember that poem! Thought it was really funny at the time, and I really liked that someone had set that competition up at all - such a unique task! Didn't realise it was yours though, good job

Inspirational links are inspirational. The walled city is amazing and terrifying at the same time - a monument to humanity's ability to adapt to anything, but also deeply tragic. I hate to think, for example, of your health after a few years with no Vit D at all, and all the crime...

Just a heads up - might be my comp, but I think the link for your second spoiler'd photo of the walled city is down.

Glad to see you're still making progress! And didn't mean for that post to sound all depressing - hive life is fun in fantasy, but reality brings a little too much darkness, y'know?

No worries mate , i get it , i think my work takes me to bad places sometimes
i actually failed to see the horror in that place ,just the amazing ability to survive and prosper. It didnt sadden me at all , just made me think wow ! What does that say about me
Its probably because i came from a the idea of what would an actual hive be like , not what shall we pretend a hive is like. I have noticed in my work i take a more literal view of 40k , i think this is because i want to highlight the human side of things , this will enevitably take me to these places . But i hope i redeamed myself with GDCK , i did say that when ever i get too depressing withing this blog , these guys will show , up! looks like i was just in time

Oh no, no, I'm glad you posted the pics and info - they're fascinating! I think it's really interesting to show a human response to the darker side of 40k universe - so much of the official fluff GW puts out glosses over the deaths and suffering of billions in a sentence, I really think things like this bring hive life home. Great inspiration if you're working on a smaller scale, anyway! Sorry, internet has no capacity for converying tone...

And I'm sure not thinking of that kinda stuff just indicates an optimistic outlook, right? No worries!

tone lost on the internet ... Yes sarcasm and wit and apathy would be lost on robots too thats why we should never invent them !!muhahha

Well, there are the spire hives that most are now familiar with thanks to GW's Grimdark imagery, but they also mention that when the planet makes those not possible(earthquakes and such) Spawl-hives would be built instead.

low lying, but spreading for miles, and then walls erected to protect them from enemies

Or Island using water as part of it's defense

But always, no matter how tall the buildings, they spread out like this

almost choked with righteous fury... that was my line....creepy livemotto stealer! *shakes fist menacingly* ...er... after that tempertantrum i say gosh the fromer broken link to the forest/jungle pic...glorius contrast of mother nature to the hives...
seems when you say when you get too depressed and then the GDCK rise again inside you...seems like a good description of a split persona^^ and i know what i am talking of...er...who said that...*slaps his own cheek*...

at shasos pics...i am musing now what is worse... the skyskraping hives with no natural light as common shown in fluff or the spread for eternity hives...like in brasliia or in the townships... gosh we can all be more grateful to not having to struggle for a living there...

also this all hivetalk reminds me to this:

and this raises the question, who was first with the hiveidea? the dread megapolis or the 40k hive? dunno, someone?

You asked about the story of my novel, it's quite generic sounding 40k stuff with some personal twists and no big battles. It began as the background for a warband I started for Inquisitor the game. They are basicly guardsmen, but a wild mix, no last chancers just survivors, who ever made it to the rescue pods is in. The emergency exit takes them to a closeby planet, they go down in the middle of nowhere and when they finally manage to get to a populated area they find out, that the authorities are not to be trusted, so there is nowhere to turn to. That's when the actual adventure begins, a bunch of very different personalities more or less united by a mutual cause, saving there asses, or maybe the planet.
Summing it up like that it sounds terrible, like a Gaunt's Ghosts ripoff, but I'm aiming for something completely different. It's not a group of hardened and disciplined veterans led by an inspiring officer in big battles. It's a group that consists of totally different characters, not all of them soldiers, not all of them human (ok, I can tell you it's an ogryn) and the most important thing is they don't have a true leader. There is a commissar who thinks he can pull the "do what I say, or else..." thing, but very quickly finds out, that without any backup, outside imperial hierarchy and surrounded by companions more terrifying than your actual foes, it's not a very good strategy.

One day, when I finish some of the miniatures I will start to put the story online. If you want to read it any earlier you'd have to have very good german language skills.

I asked Abi to give me a hand with the pliers but she told me in no uncertain terms that Neil really doesn't want my teeth and that she would kick my arse if I did remove any. I really love that girl. So mate you will just have to take this high praise, from a couple of days ago, as payment...
"Peter that's a nice picture on your desk top. What it is?" asked Abigail.
My enthusiastic reply was "Oh yeah it is cool! It was done by a guy on the Dakka....that's a chain sword lance."
Her disdainful response "Ugh Warhammer" with a roll of the eyes.
The high praise is that it is still on the desk top. She removes things she doesn't like...the hermaphrodite for example last all of 30 seconds.

The one thing I love (imagine an Ork heart Orkmoticon) about your blog is the fantastic research material. The walled city really is how I imagine an hive to be. So for my small contribution to Praxus and a thank you:

Brilliant stuff thanks for giving me a kick up the arse to get writing. Great images. To be honest when I hear of hives I almost think as much of Victorian cities or the Favelas as anything futuristic. The graphic story was exceptional although I would admit to thinking Varlois had killed Actaeon.

Ahh, some interesting stuff to browse through.

Acteon looks good, shame you had to lose the patterned dino, but the blue looks good, has a servitor feel about it.

Excellent comic

As always, this is the place to come for interesting and varied reference The Walled City is a fascinating place, but those jungle shots are lush

And thanks for the shout out

And I had managed to forget Mazes And Monsters till now That's the one where poor Hanks becomes schizophrenic after playing RPGs isn't it? I seem to recall teenage outrage erupting at yet another media portrayal of D&D making people crazy

@Baiyuan , it does sound a little like gaunts ghosts , or the dirty dozen , which is no bad thing , the idea of a group of soldiers thrown together , to survive without the discipline , sounds like a recipe for trouble . have you considerd writing it in instalments instead of the big novel.

@Weety , Thanks you weets glad you like the research stuff , i have never seen the anime or Fritz Lang version of metropolis , i am ashamed to say

@Peter , Lol that post made me lol , it reminded me of Amber's look when i used to mention 40k , now she just accepts me for what i am.. although i dare not put a name to it
And i am very flattered that the screen saver lasted so long , i didnt like the green circle over the top tbh.
I did what you said and dropped the liitle man and had a looksee around the uni building , the brutalist in me says many thanks ... i do love those buildings , although i wouldnt want to live in one i dont think .

@Llamahead , Thanks mate glad you liked the comic , and i know i looked like he had had it , he nearly did . but he still hadnt found his Gigas lacerta yet!! all to come in te next thrilling episode of ACTAEON!

@Monkey , welcome back to the mad house here is your wlecome gift

Spoiler:

Yep the dino pattern only worked on one side , although i am happy with the end result , like a 40k barny
i so want to go to Yakushima island now , not so much kowloon .

The Irish wolf hounds from gripping beasts http://www.grippingbeast.com/shop.php?CatID=12 arrived yesterday and i took the oppertunity to do some more reasearch on the subject I also managed to actually paint em up and base them with the Highland moor theme i have running for the location of Praxus prime , and the Noble 9th's Hunting and Game keeping area Outside the walls of praxus prime . I used the new highland tufts and swamp tufts form battlefield scenics from wayland games ( which is closed for a few days apparently ) http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/images/uploads/warlord/Battlefieldscenics/AP-BF4127.jpg

I really like the history of the Irish wolf hound and think it sits perfectly with the Noble 9ths agenda.

GELERT
William Robert Spencer

The spearmen heard the bugle sound,
And cheerily smiled the morn;
And many a brach, and many a hound
Obeyed Llewellyn’s horn.
And still he blew a louder blast,
And gave a lustier cheer,
“Come, Gelert, come, wert never last
Llewellyn’s horn to hear.

“O where does faithful Gelert roam
The flower of all his race;
So true, so brave – a lamb at home,
A lion in the chase?”

In sooth, he was a peerless hound,
The gift of royal John;
But now no Gelert could be found,
And all the chase rode on.

That day Llewellyn little loved
The chase of hart and hare;
And scant and small the booty proved,
For Gelert was not there.

Unpleased, Llewellyn homeward hied,
When, near the portal seat,
His truant Gelert he espied
Bounding his lord to greet.

But when he gained the castle-door,
Aghast the chieftain stood;
The hound all o’er was smeared with gore;
His lips, his fangs, ran blood.

Llewellyn gazed with fierce surprise;
Unused such looks to meet,
His favourite checked his joyful guise,
And crouched, and licked his feet.

Onward, in haste, Llewellyn passed,
And on went Gelert too;
And still, where’er his eyes he cast,
Fresh blood-gouts shocked his view.

Overturned his infant’s bed he found,
With blood-stained covert rent;
And all around the walls and ground
With recent blood besprent.

He called his child – no voice replied -
He searched with terror wild;
Blood, blood he found on every side,
But nowhere found his child.

“Hell-hound! my child’s by thee devoured,”
The frantic father cried;
And to the hilt his vengeful sword
He plunged in Gelert’s side.

Aroused by Gelert’s dying yell,
Some slumberer wakened nigh;
What words the parent’s joy could tell
To hear his infant’s cry!

Concealed beneath a tumbled heap
His hurried search had missed,
All glowing from his rosy sleep
The cherub boy he kissed.

No hurt had he, nor harm, nor dread,
But, the same couch beneath,
Lay a gaunt wolf, all torn and dead,
Tremendous still in death.

Ah, what was then Llewellyn’s pain!
For now the truth was clear;
His gallant hound the wolf had slain
To save Llewellyn’s heir.

and this one i found very apt

The Last Wolf
Mary TallMountain

The last wolf hurried toward me
through the ruined city
and I heard his baying echoes
down the steep smashed warrens
of Montgomery Street and past
the ruby-crowned highrises
left standing
their lighted elevators useless

Passing the flicking red and green
of traffic signals
baying his way eastward
in the mystery of his wild loping gait
closer the sounds in the deadly night
through clutter and rubble of quiet blocks
I hear his voice ascending the hill
and at last his low whine as he came
floor by empty floor to the room
where I sat
in my narrow bed looking west, waiting
I heard him snuffle at the door and
I watched

He trotted across the floor
he laid his long gray muzzle
on the spare white spread
and his eyes burned yellow
his small dotted eyebrows quivered

Yes, I said.
I know what they have done.

I am pleased to introduce you to Artemis The Noble 9ths Coursing sighthound handler. She is The only Plebian Allowed to wear the Noble 9ths Colours , as the great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great granddaughter of Leto the 1st Agri farmer to settle here She is
16th generation Praxus, Her Farming family was on Praxus long before the Noble Adalaise house or even the Voltaire family came here to plunder its riches. Trained since birth with a classical Bow, Artemis has enjoyed all the privelages of Nobility without the title. Her family is one of the most influential on Praxus and The Imperial commander keeps potential enemies close. She is currrently in charge of The commisars hunts whilst Actaeon recuperates

I found this beautifull image , that i think captures the idea of Valrick escaping the Imperial Palace on rag with Actaeons Vulgus Servant After beating Actaeon to a pulp.

your new minis: i love them, the Artemis charcter is a nice and fluffy new character that needs more time in the spotlight^^
the hounds are really dynamic looking, i have had a similar idea that i wanted to do and thus baucght me a small pack of zombie hounds to convert into hunting dogs...to go as a bodygard of things to come...
the poems and the art look very good, i am especially most thankful about the tragic story of gellert...what a great missunderstanding...but so artful this poem!

what model by the way did you use for artemis? it did come without the bow and quiver?

if i say good work, the words do look pale in comaprrision...

Re:Neil101's 40k Manufactorum  @ 2011/05/30 11:22:59

Post by: Viktor von Domm

well mostly miniatures are stereotypicaly sculpted and thus women and not "important chars are smaller...the powerful a mini gets the bigger they are...well, this opens the whole truescale issue again but i think as long as the mini is basically "in line" to the others it is fine... and your napoleonic minis are too a tad smaller so it should all fall nicely into place^^
for my own collection i recently got me this:
and she is also rather frail looking compared to a IG mini...

Well you cant have huntin dogs without appropriate quarry , Introducing ..Seith

Born with severe mutations , Seith Narodnik's Plebian parents hid the boy from imperiums gaze , in the swelling crowds of the vulgus quater. His life among the vulgus opened his eyes to the plight of the great unwashed , Seith ashamed of his mutated apperance felt he could relate to the their suffering, dedicating his life to helping the poor wretches , the robed Seith formed the plebian Narodniks , a group of plebian workers who believed the plight of the Vulgus could be overturned through petitioning the Imperial Governors palace.
Unfortunately , The letters had no effect, and frustrated with the apathy of the ruling class and the Ecclisiarchy , the Narodniks work soon turned violent. The small group began a terror campaign that led to the assasination of Praxus primes Pontifex Urba, a man of great standing and import. Overjoyed at their own success the Narodniks caimed the the deed for the benefit of the Vulgus. But the Vulgus scared of repurcussions , denounced the actions of the Narodniks. Incensed by this spineless betrayal , the Narodniks disbanded , leaving Seith to grow bitter and twisted in his despondancy. It was during one of his black moods , that the mutants mind snapped , Seiths untapped link with the warp became uncorked , and the whispering hatefuelled words of the Chaos gods crept most welcome into his heart.

It wasnt long before Seith began murdering his Victims. Choosing his prey from the many Vulgus not to be missed was easy work for a man used to blending in. Eventually the word was out , a killer stalked the Vulgus , a cold hearted murderer of the poor. His mind totally corupted by the foul chaos gods , Seith rejoiced in his work .His psychic self growing stronger by the day.

It was Chief Arbite judge lions that tracked down the murdering fiend , trapped like a fox in one of the many alleyways of the vulgus quater, The judge offered no remit and ordered her repressor to attack the defenceles Seith. Lost in his own mind Seith was barely controlling his own body when he unleashed the fury of a warp spawned phychic attack.
The reppressor tossed like an old tin can. Seith was gone, teleported to the wild of praxus in an instant , his mind numb from exaustion.

Since that day Chief judge Lions has stopped at nothing to track the wretched beast to its lair. The noble 9th has been used on occasion to hunt out the killer, but more often than not all they find are the bones of his victims displayed in some gruesom totem. He now preys on the Unknown , the wilderness people of Praxus , the decsendants of the farmers who refused to sign the plebian treaty. Who wander The Praxian continents living as Nomads off the land.

seems jack the ripper with some warp influences is roaming praxus...is his chaos god nurgle? or rather khorne? form the term great unwashed i thought the former but after reading further i suspect the later...
the mini looks good tho i had hoped for a "nicer" character setting for this mini...is that a gorka morka gun in seith´s hand?
great read, and so early...^^ this could be a very welcome trend of yours to churn out new installemnts to fluff and minis and art of yours so fast^^

Man you have been productive recently...I'm glad the Mr Lazy avatar has....been tucked back under the bed.

Nice model selection (unsurprisingly) and the finished product looks great. The bloody arrows in the stag's flank make me sad

The colour selection is bob on. The dark muted colours and the bright swamp grass makes for some realism that I applaud. The grass actually draws my eyes away from the model which I think is excellent.

Cheers

Peter

The stag will be ok, right? :O
I think the arrows are a really nice touch, especially in keeping with Artemis as a pursuer. I like the story - the "jaded hero cracks" storyline fits really well in your storyline, I think, and his reaction to adversity makes a nice counterpoint to some of your brighter rebels

Love the wolfhounds, incidentally, but I couldn't find them on that link you posted! Am I just being dense?

Easy peeps a Few pics i have been working on wanted to get some air so i told them that if they were good i would let them see my friends on dakka, I realise friends is stretching it Btw i wanted to thank Perksutin for inspiring the Unknown element of the Praxus population , ( when he mentioned how he is drawn to the unknown elemants of the praxian graphs i made a while back. i have wanted to explore the potential of civvilians living outside imperium rule on the outskirts of society , oblivious completely to the huge machinations of the imperial rule. And with the unkown i think i can do that , I have a few minis in mind , but they will have to wiat for now.

@ Vik aye I am not sure i am happy with his story , its not really how I envisioned him either , but thats what came out when i started to write it down , i changed it a few time but , the darkness crept back in Well he will make a fine Psycher for the Army Although even I cant immagine why all these chars would fight for the same cause. That mission would truly test my writing abilities and stretch the illusion of disbelief a tad too far even for me The gun Seith is carrying is from Rohans Goliaths pack from Gw , it came with a few options and spares.

And who doesnt like hard as nails women ! My choice of preference would be Wonder woman or Kim Catrall in police academy ( really showing my age )

@Pdh Aye Mr lazy is taking a sabatical Sorry about the arrows , but it was Artemis , what can i say, the animal crulety brigade hasnt reach the 40th millenium , actually that gives me an idea for a necromunda gang The Seith model is a really old GW Ninja i have had since i was a kid one of the few remaining original figures of those times, I think we refound him under the dillapidated now destroyed shed at one point. after the big argumaent wit amber years ago when i chucked out all my 40k and wfb stuff the stag is a LOTR warg witha green stuffed head i made a few years back , it was actually one of my first attempts with green stuff and i was rather proud at the time, It feels good to have paint on them . although at one point he was going to be just like his 2d insperation at one point
Spoiler:

Spoiler:

@scarper Yeah he will be fine honest , just like when my parents said Tigger was going to the farm ........ Glad you like him i though maybe he was comming over too dark arh well. the wolf hounds are fantastic , only a fiver , but they are tiny ,against regular gw minis . more like puppies but they are well sculpted with plenty of character , although i did research very well ,in this area and found more supliers , in fact some more i orderd after i got these turned up today , and they are even nicer, less movement but much better sizeing for gw minis. i got them from trent miniatures , through northstar millitary figures, a great website , and trent also do many other animals
http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=3368 , i actully wanted these first but couldnt find the suppilers

but it dosent stop there i also found thee guys which look even better to me , but the postage and packing from America killed it for me as it doubled the price .

So whislst working on Acthaeon , i realised i needed an overview of Praxus prime , so i created this HUGE pic , so big it nearly killed my comp 1.6 gb uncompressed 9 mb compressed
thank you Jpeg it is supposed to show the key faction on Praxus , The Adaptus Mechanicus the ecllissiarchy and the imperial governors palace, the scale is 1km for the admech frigate in the lower left corner , there is a banblade in front of the imperial palace fro scale also , but in the big pic its about 18km wide and 45 km high. the ship in orbit is Inquistors vendrakes black ship a Oberon class battlecruiser 5km long

i took some lower res pics but feel free to zoom around in the gallery

can you see the baneblade ?

and the big one zoomable in gallery

They look great! I think they're about the right size for actual dogs, rather than GW-scale enormo-hounds. Nice selection with all those links though, thanks for posting! Don't think I've seen any of them before.

The picture -

Yeah. Just - just wow. I may have spent maybe fifteen minutes now in your gallery just exploring the lower levels. Love all the little details - the boats in the water, the statues, the smaller aircraft zipping around just make it. Amazing amazing amazing. Wish I had your electronic art skills!

somehow the already painted irish wolfhounds are working better for me than your recent links you showed...i think the former are betterlooking and much more dynamic looking too...

I think you were actually on the money with the wolf hounds you've painted. I actually think they are the right size...though your young rogue trader is huge.

As for the baneblade...is it the thing in the sky?

Those drawings actually make you clinically insane. They are very nicely done but my goodness they are massively insane. Are there three star wars space ships hidden in the massive bottom picture?

Never ever have an argument with a wifey when there are models present...they can be negatively affected and be used by one side against the other. Live and learn my friend live and learn.

Hey guys

@ scarper , the new dogs are bigger than a regular sized dog but for a big wolf hound they are spot on. and thanks matey

@ ha ha now find the chimera i like both sets of dogs , the 1st are really small , but the second are really big , whayagonnado

@ Pdh Well i stopped taking the pills a long time ago and they havent cuaght me yet., i was a bit upset that the scale was not bigger tbh , but my comp couldnt handle the true 100k high space line , and yep i learnt my lesson
The rogue trader is huge probably the biggest mini i have ever had , in 28mm, but then again the gun mage is tiny tiny probably the smallest , way smaller than the perry miniatures.
the 1st dogs sit well with her though so i dont really mind , but if i was to use a larger mini then the true scale of the wolf hounds would be better with the second bunch .
Spoiler:

the star wars ships tut tut tut Peter , i thought you would have known better are these bad boys from 40k , though admittedly i had never heard of them before i found this pic.
Spoiler:

So i painted the pre lizard Actaeon today. I actually enjoyed painting him quite a lot and painted him in the Noble 9ths colours for unity , although an all black riders de la morte was tempting . didnt spend too long on him , as i have plenty of others to get out

Cool picture. I'm really not up on my 40k space ships....they really don't appeal (though I hear battle fleet gothic is meant to be fun). That Starhawk Bomber really reminds me of a star ship from some film...think it is probably Star Wars....hmmm good excuse to watch the boxset again...I hope its not in the Phantom Menace because I'm skipping it.

I like the green coat and the colours on the horse are really nice. Great colour combinations. My favourite bit is the gold thread on the saddle blanket.

the noble looks very good, i am constantly wondering wheter you paint for tabletop use or more for a glass case kind of use...i suspect the later^^ and you definatly would find your minis suitable stationed there^^

as for the further truescale issue...don`t... plaese... those hounds...look meh to say the least in the real world...

by the way, i like how you use nowadays the spoiler funktion to better let the readers read your stuff up front and not get irritated by superb art and other research pics... thus my easy confused self can really better understand and concentrate on poems and fluff and your musings than get disatracted and always having to compose myself to stay on the line of post^^

(i found a baneblade and i guess two basiliks... whre the heck would be a chimera be stuffed in those pics? and by the way, there are some serious errors on the systemview of praxus right on praxus...when you take a closer look you see some layer errors...)

hey Folks hows things I have been working on the riders de la Morte, and i manged to get them painted up, iam a bit washed out now though will probably take a break for a while, maybe do some painting or comic work. In fact i was thinking of trying to organise the Praxian Pdf ect.. into a proper army list. so if i ever get a chance to field them i will n=know what is what ect. i have no experience in putting together army lists , and if i do i , would apreciate any help in that field , i was thinking basing it on the death korps list , but not really sure tbh.

@Baiyuan cheers matey , your novel would make an interesting DH campaign , lots of character.

@ qoute "probably the whole pic freaked me out...and i had a neighbor with a big "riesen schnautzer"...this was a true monster...yuck^^ "

@ chibi qoute " Fishermens' Friends never sounded like so much fun!

@ Perkustin qoute " I wish i could find a fishermans jumper girl... " Try the harbour Glad you approve of the art mate, the flesh tones are because i cant really paint eyes but i did try and add some blue around his eye sockets , to add that cold look, glad it came accross as arrogance and disdain, he's a bad egg

@ Lindsay40k , Thanks a bunch Sci fi stalingrad sounds fantastic , all bombed out and rubbly i immagine, enemy at the gates would be a good place to start. and copplestone casting do some great red army figs . would like to see what you do with a city scape after seeing your Dino nids.

just the commisar , general von domm and the rest of the praxian high ranking noble house leaders left of the cavalry

Considering that I started a similar chain lance/halberd conversion some time ago, I'd like to add something: Even though your lances look pretty cool, one thing I want to avoid with mine is that it just looks like a chainsword on a stick. I'll add a handguard and some more detailing around the pole, maybe something similar could make yours even better.

Mate they look spot on

I actually think the "chain sword on a stick" works perfectly. From my 40k perspective things are either totally impractical and ott or so straight forward they are like a tin of Ronseal.

looking great! Beautifully painted...and highly envious!

Question, was it easy to afix the chainsaws to the lances? And, are they the lances that came with the perry minis?

Aye up dak dak , sorry i have been lax in my posts , i have been working on another project You know me attention span of a fish

thank you very much for all the encouraging comments folks

@ weetyskemian44 Thanks weety

@kenshin620 Hey Kenshin nice to have you around again , Thanks you for you kind words

@Baiyuan I totally see where you are comming from mate, they are very much chainswords on sticks, but the perry miniatures are very very small , and just achieving the chain on the stick look was quite an achievment in converting terms , If i were just making a sinmgle rider or even a couple i would definately go down a more complicated look, as it is i have loads of other perry minis sitting waiting for paint , and i converted these a while back , i have no desire to start reconverting these guys at the moment , it would just take too long when i could be better spent creating whole new things I had hope originally to get the throwaway idea of the roughriders hunting lance , so these guys would just discard after a single charge . But even i think the flag bearer one is a tad too much

@Hyenajoe Merci

@Vik cheers matey , yep your family has long connections in 40k glad the training thing came across , thats what i was aiming for

@lLlamahead Cheers matey , i had worried that they where too napoleonic , i learnt a lot builing them , and painting them ,

@Pdh thanks peter , glad they work for you , i think iam learning bit buy bit , if i were to do these again , i am sure i would have improved since last year.

@manoknok thanks matey, qoute "
Question, was it easy to afix the chainsaws to the lances? And, are they the lances that came with the perry minis?" simple answer , No only one lance was with the perry minis , the others are scavenged , and it was a mare trying to convert the sword arms into lances , i would nt do it again just buy gw roughriders next time

@ weety ,

@Monkey qoute You can never go wrong with chain swords on a stick put it on a t shirt or sig it

@scarazza Hey mate you made me lol , glad your still enjoying the blog , makes it all worthhile

wow lots of supportive comments ,thank you guys and gals.

So i needed a break after painting all those horses and riders , but i never got it i decided to scratch build stuff and convert, i had a rummage through my bits boxs and realised i had enough IG guys to start thinking of a small army. So i laid them all out and had a good look , but the purist in me would not let the 1st gen plastics be mixed with second gen metals and third gen cadians so i decided to just build a nice new cadian only platoon , like the ones you see in the rule books etc.. trying to be more to scale than the gw ones , yet i still wanted to be able to take them into gw and play a battle if i could. I had some dust tactics minis left over that i was gonna use for praxus , but i really like the look of them with cadian bodies , so
once i had one min i thought lets go for a plattoon, i have ten kinda made plus 5 commanders a priest and a cadet commisariat,

I am going to try and make my ideal visually orientated true ish scale ig army , its gonna be small and compact , probably rubbish for battles. I wanted to be differnt to the praxian pdf , i want a completely by the numbers cadian paltoon, so i have been building it around the 40k rulebook and the ig list and the eye of terror campaign book,

I have planned on a money no object start , for these , even though i have no money as i really want these to be special , a small dream come true Ig army with character. i will be using forgeworld peices and other dust tactics to start , then some other bits and pieces .where neccesary.

Fluff wise I opted for a exsisting regiment that tied to my idea of fluff, a veteran recon force on cadia during adabons 13th black crusade hunting down a traitor nurgle Renegade Ig regiment. That will open up opertunities for creating the true scale CSM i have planned. and builing some nice traitor guard regiments too

No t much to show yet , still waiting on some bits , but you will get an idea where iam going with these.

In the pipelins

Cadian 7th regiment (just after the battle of Tyrok Fields http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Tyrok_Fields)

1st advance recon platoon

priest

colonel

medic

8 vets led by seargent Bastonne plus one white shield cadian youth army

Awesome! A new project! I mite be able to help you out with this as well (expect a PM). If you want me to get rules nazi on you, your Army list needs a little tweak. Heres my interpretation:

1 Command squad with senior officer, medic, standard and Vox and one un-upgraded veteran.

1 priest attached to command squad. (he can be attached to any squad before the battle though)

10 stormtroopers

1 veteran squad with sergeant bastonne (it needs to be ten dudes i am afraid)
Riding in a chimera.

This is the tough part, if you want the heavy weapon squad and the whiteshields you will need an 'infantry platoon' to attach them to. An infantry platoon is two squads of 10 plus a 5 man command section (sepperate from your HQ one).

Love the bases so far mate and best of luck. If your Necron tomb is anything to go by you should be done these guys by... Next week?

EDIT: Forgot to say, if you want a trescale marine commander a lot of people use a Special character called 'Iron hand straken' from the guard codex as his stats are very similar to a marines.

OOh thanks Perkustin , i am afraid i will need all the rules nazing possible , since i have never actually played a proper game lol , thank you for your advice, it seems sound , i actually like the idea of having more dudes to get the white shields , though i might just use one miniature in the veterans squad as this . any help you could lend will be greatly appreciated ...you are truly wise in this area

expect to get that pm asap

Oh thats fine if you just want a cadet lol. I thought you wanted a full mob of twenty. You will still need a platoon for a heavy weapon squad though. Oh and commissars can be attached and bought for nearly any squad.

I really like the idea of going for a commisariat cadet squad actually leading a load of penal troopers , but one commisar is enough i think ,still would like the troopers though.

tell you what by now i have completly forgotten what you last project was... seeing your new guys in smelly armor makes a great testament to the artwork you referenced before...the guard codex the battle was shown : http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Battle_of_Tyrok_Fields i currently at least once a day i read with my two youngest sons almost reverently... for some reason they just love to see the cadians marching up to the thousands and my youngest oskar always likes to point out when he sees sentinels marchin^^

the poses of your minis promise high quality storytelling and we all nowadays expect no less anymore^^ so this will be very cool once the guardsmen hit some paint^^
by the way, how do you cope with that much excess of GS in all the joints when attaching limbs and weapons? is that so easy to file down then?

and still one qeustion more...is that poster done with the afore mentioned battle sequence and a DOW winter assault pic? i think so...cool work... at first i thought you might have used some 40k cardgame graphics, but then i recognised some parts^^

cheers, mate, this will be cool!

Great start I'm really interested in seeing more of the Priest guy. The lists actually rather small for an IG list it comes to just under a 1000pts which is less than most people play. At 35 men it's also far less than is usual for a guard list (At 1500 pts I use well over a hundred and wouldn't consider a list with less than fifty). Another thing is that the Salamander isn't inthe guard codex it's in an IA book and I don't think it's been brought into line with the current guard codex. Another tiny factor is your Cmmand HQ seems tobe the only squad walking which dosn't make sense to me.

Lord above, what a treat! You sneaky git, no news for a couple of days and then BAM you come out swinging.
I love the rivalry of the two groups and the conversions are mostly not super complicated, but for that exact reason even more impressive, loads of character!
/Shutdown/exclamation marks used up...

Before I forget, I really don't see any need to reconvert those RR, they are lovely, I was merely running my mouth about how much more travailing my approach might turn out.

@The goodgreen ha ha there is another one , i sometimes think that not gaming gives you a freedom and an advantage to express yourself more, but lately i have had a yearning to go pew pew pew lol so i am having to curtail my creativity into some flak armour. glad you like where its going for now.

@Monkey now your just being kind , stop it , i prefer the cuastic wit and unrelenting chastisement of my terrible grammar and spelling.

@weety that flattend mutant corspe thing is a pretorian officer , how very dare you... lol

@Vik Cheers matey that story of you showing your boys the cadian sons marching , made me smile , this is how life should be , a father showing his son the joys of war , in a non violent sci fantasy way pf course.

glad you like the poses , although some are just place holders until more of the dust tactics minis arrive for converting fun. its proving an expensive army already 38 pound for ten men after conversion , thats more expensive than DKOK makes sad face , but i do like to see faces , and the boys in the masks just dont have any.and the Elysians , are not my cup of tea really , not grimdark enough , although they may very well apeear in some form in this platoon.

the green stuff gaps i generally just scrape off with a knife , i dont have any files , ( note to self buy files for this project) before painting i will probably even remove mold lines this time lol

and your right about the pic , i really wanted to do more fluff , but that will have to wait, cheers matey

@Peter, thanks for that image its beautifully evocative, really eery and powerfull, starnge what images can do to us. It really does capture the fell of a hive , i may well have pop over the pennines to see this on the canvas. I just cant stop myself from going off tangent in this blog , i was very tempted to start a new one , but i guess this is me , a bit off tangent most of the time lol, i will be back to the other projects in time no doubt, glad you dont hold it against me that its a bit random.

happy belated bday btw matey

@Llamahead , Hi mate, thanks for the advice , i didnt realise you couldnt field a salamander , i thought if it was built there would be rules ? what are the imperial armour books for then if not 40k? is it for apocalypse ? i really am behind on this stuff , qiute embarrasing really. Its a shame becuase i thought the vehicle looked cool and could be used for a command vehicle if needed . maybe i could use a diffent model , i did want a few diffent versions of the chimera chasis for originality and to break up the look of the guys. i shal have a look at the imperial armour book , , maybe i just need a sympathetic enemy ..lol but with my puny line up shouldnt be hard ;-) i think your right about it not really being a strong force , i wanted a fluff fisrt force for stories etc,, that wasnt a all melta guns and plasma guns force. i am thinking this is a bit of a mish mash team of veteran scouts on their own deep in enemy territory, with the back up of a some seriously hard arsed karskin, I dont mind too much if they lose , so long as they do it with style, obviously if i can have style originality and a kick ass small team that would be good too , so if you have any other advice please feel free to give it , infact please do , i havent a clue what iam doing.

so i like the idea of adding some more troops , maybe an Ogryn squad , and some more transport then, i just didnt want it too big, as i would like to try and make the models look good, individually. thanks for the input mate

@Baiyuan Lol swinging but facing the wrong way ..lol , You will have noticed by now , i really respect your work when it comes to conversions , the detailed and well thought work is matched only by your exquisite execution, I just cant bring myself to spend that long on a single model ,(although i really do try ) to which i applaud you, i have unkempt style that i think will suit well , the IG veterans and nugrle Renegades. i try to capture a mood and feeling like the artwork does , You have to work to your strengths dont you?

A few compliments here and there keeps you off guard

But you know, if you really do insist then a quick scan of the last post shows at least:

34 instances of a lower case 'I', 9 sentences starting with lower case letters, 1 rogue capital, 2 double commas, 1 double period (not P.E. ), 10 missing apostrophes, 5 spelling mistakes and a couple of missing capitals

And obviously after pointing that out there'll be a shed-load of errors in this post

But hey, the pwetty pictures distract from all that

Imperial Armour's a grey area I'd certainly not care if somebody wanted to use it but some would and tournaments are often funny about it. To me the problem is more the £50 price tag on the book to field 1 model (not that they don't exist online). I've got to agree with you about having a strong theme although I have a strong preference for large forces and am sure your more than capable of creating a large unique force. I'm not really sure I'm the best to give gaming advice as I have only 2 games with 5th Ed guard.

I like, whether it was or wasn't intended, the irony of the Seventh Regiment going after a traitor force devoted to Nurgle, magical numbers and all that. And with Imperial Armour, I'm all in the spirit to allow it, but of course there are those out there who don't. Really just a personal thing. This would be an interesting force to see fleshed out into a fully built army, and I do certainly like the commissar standing on a felled chaos boy.

Do what you'll do, and you'll impress. Kaesar II

Hope your all doing well

I always tell my students to do the opposite, work the hardest on your weaknesses and you will grow, stick with your strong points and you will stagnate.
But since this is supposed to be fun mainly, I'd say do whatever you like...

Well matey i never did listen to my teachers , and as one famous stagnating slacker once said "I shall never move quickly, except to avoid more work or find excuses."

@monkey picks ups big book of grammar and slowly starts to read....
Spoiler:

@Selafyne Cheers, another mayazaki fan , would like to see you interpretation too mate,

@Llamahead , I think i will stick with my gut and go theme first here , since i dont think i would enjoy playing with anyone who were so strict , Its always story first game second for me. and two games is two more than me matey

@shazo , cheers matey

@scarper Hey scarper , i thought you of all would like these guys, you and i share a kinship for the human condition i think. Its pricy to use the dust tactics legs , but i think its worth it , to get a undumpy cadian force, i asked at my local Gw if i could bring them in to game , and they begrudingly said yes The cloaks are made by rolling oou the green stuff real thin on the table top with a sculpting tool, that has ridges in it for grip, that creates the texture , i then prise the greenstuff off the table and just stuff it where i want letting it fold naturally with gravity. to get the wind effect i sometimes use glue to hold a particular position. or a hands free clamp. will document it next time.

@Lord kaesar II The favoured number thing was a happy accident thanks for pointing that out i do think i will continue this into a 1500 point infantry based army if i can afford it i placed the new yarrick on the felled CSM and it looked better i think , so he gets the big base now ,bloody officers pulling rank

So thanks for the comments folks , I have a had a few deliveries , some Forgeworld environemntal suits , that will be twinned with something else for the Karskin. They are really nice btw, two more boxes of dust tactics laser grenadiers , so i now have another ten legs , with this i decided to build the penal battalion squad, along with a box of reular gw cadians , and some left over catachans . i wanted a feral knife weilding bunch of reprobates who where only kept in line by their priest and newly commisioned cadet commissar. these guys have survived many battles and put their luck down to the regiments moniker. They where inspired by a pic i found (posted ) of some Mordant Ig vets.

also i have beeing working on some scenery , Its a sewerage system. needs paint and more details yet .

And finally the boys bought me a Finecast Yarrick for fathers day so i have being playing with him , i actually like finecast a lot easy to cut and great details.

blimey, that is a crude bunch of meatshields...like the one with the fist and greanade menacing the cam^^ great poses...and the dusttactics legs prove that expensive thoughts get expensive resulst^^ in short they look ace^^

the mordant penal troops look very good... i might try to nick some of your ideas for my bushwhackers^^ seems GW had intended this regiment as a conversion reason for a mix of cadian and catachans^^
by the way whre was that page from? don´t recognize that one...

and the sewer... cool... literally as the water looks really crisp...what did you use for getting that blue coloreffect? a metalic carspraypaint? looks a bit shimeri`n will you dirtying up the water a bit or will you let it stay that way? a bit of scorpion green drybrushed on for a bit of venomy look?

i have two different version of yareck with me and they both do not look so sharp as yours...seems you got a lucky bag of him and no miscasting on that one!

cheers, mate

I manage to finish the water/sewerage Pump station plant today , i would still like to add a few more details , if i get chance , like graphics purity seals etc.. very pleased with the results , for such a quick turn a round, the only thing that went a bit off was the water colour , i had hoped for a more sewerage looking effect , but after i highlighted and put water effects on , it looked instantly quite clean . This piece will be going to a new home curtesy of generous dakkite Perkustin

@: Vik cheers mate , i like that guy too , but my fave is the one with the huge mohawk and knife who looks like he is stalking his enemy. Shame games workshop dont provide better legs for the cadians.

the page was from tactica imperialis

The sewer blue effect is from car spray paint , it was the only stuff i had for an undercoat, but it turned out okay , it is a mix of blue and green and mat black , i have now painted the water , i used a flat blue green veridian , highlighted with a lighter green yellow and then added woodland scenics realistic water.

@ Perkustin Hey matey Hope you like your sewer system , any changes you want just let me know

i like the rust and verdigris looks superb! i think tho the water looks a tad cleaner than pehaps might be the case in a sewer (tho i have no personal expeierence there) the foamy bitz make it way suitable unhealthy^^

been a little under the weather the last few days , Bailey my eldest has been off school too, so not got much done.
I did have an attempt to do a true scale scout seargent though , its a bit rushed and not high quality but i can see what works and what doesnt though, , I think i will paint him up just to seehim in colours.

@paranoia_Agent Cheers mate,

@Baiyuan

@Vik Yep zombie arm in goo , not really any other details i am afraid , havent had chance.

oops i forgot i did write a little story about the lucky 7'S

“HELP ME! ….Help..... me …...help....”

The rain lashed hard into my face, stinging my cheeks . The Cadian Winter was harsh, and up in the mountains amongst the pylons, it was relentless. I pulled the leathery cameleoline cloak tight to my chin and re shouldered my lasgun. . The voice was still calling out … somewhere in the mass of guardsman and traitor guardsman's mutilated bodies that lay before me.

“Help me...please.... help me...”

The Voice was growing weak , But I had its direction now . Precariously I placed my boots between the corpses careful not to trip .The battle had been devastating, the traitorous Volscani Cataphracts had pushed us to the breaking point. Our colours spared an inglorious defeat by our saviour Lord Creed and the 8th . I had watched in awe from the mountain, alongside the relentless pounding of the artillery , as the renegade Volscani brought forth its mighty Leviathans to bear on the three strong regiment counter offensive , only to be laid waste by the mighty Mechanicus Titans . The shock wave from the resulting void shield collapse , decimated our vanguard . But we fought on , until the light ebbed from the stormy Cadian sky, and we watched as the night was lit up with a million fireworks , The Imperial Navy doing their part . But that was then , now the main of the battle is over. Only a few running skirmishes have been fought since . With the remaining stragglers too wounded to answer the call to leave the front lines and take up a defensive stance against the foreboding Chaos tide.

Helppp...me.......................................pl...eas...e

They grow us strong here on Cadia, we are a proud people, happy to know we do are duty in defending the Imperium , we are the first and last sight for many a warp spawned daemon, chancing its luck in the world of man . Of this we are justifiably proud. We sell our lives dearly , for we know if we falter , it is the end of our world. Our Kasrs would burn with the ferocity of the hate they have for us.

For every man their is an end, but its my duty as a medic to see that the end comes when there is no chance of redemption , its my duty as a Cadian to patch them up to fight again. If it so pleases the Emperor.

“Help... me … medic.. ,please I... I... cant feel anything..

A whiteshield no older than fourteen years lay battered and broken in his own blood , scattered about him , vile beasts with contorted faces luring from beyond this realm at his tormented soul. His trusty lasgun propped under his arm , trigger finger red raw and blistered from the last stand.

“I did.. it.. sir.. , I held...the..line... his youthful eyes still hung on to the that faint glimmer of hope.

You did that and more , the cowards have run , we have pushed them back ,today is ours , you have saved many lives boy. Our families can sleep well in the Kasrs for one more night due to your brave stand.

R..e..ally.. we ...won....?
the boys eyes lit up with true joy, before closing permanently..

May the Emperor have mercy on your soul child..

so you switched to classic battles of the cadians...nice change of fluff background there! good story, very good description in it! and regarding your scout marine sergant! i really like the trousers! the folds and creases are exellent! the fur on the cloak i like, the only thing that needs some work stil is the connection of the cloak to the mini and the way the cloak seems to move...look as if you tried to make it look billowing in a small gale but there is something odd to it i cant put my finger on it...

anyway, i hope you dish out more of the lucky seven! this is cool!

Aye Up dak dak feeling a lot better now thanks for all the well wish's

Had me some Art scale scout fun today , really fun to work on not too detailed but still i like the look of them together , and in a skirmish game , they would scare the bejeezus out of any regular minis Still one more to make , and definalet some tidy up to do , but not that much because i like being messy

@Monkey Yep we are trhanks monkey , although he is till off school untill next week now. That reminds me, I really should post up some pics of the boys work

@Mike Thanks Mike , well the gothic city terrain ledgend of dakka knows what he's talking about and i wont be the one to cross him

@j3r03n Cheers matey.

@Moltar Much better thanks Mate and thanks again

@Shazo Thank you sir, all the bettr to get ripped apart by the enemies of the imeprium no doubt

@Vik Yep , classic Cadian fluff i need to catch up on , and i though what better way than start with the famous tyrok fields battle . More fuff will emerge for the lucky sevens but not as much as Praxus as for the scout , i agree , something is not sitting right , the cloak was to disguise his dodgy legs , now i need another cloak to disguise his dodgy cloak and on and on...

@nerdfestCheers Matey, feeling much better although my partner has it now The flaky paint is achieved by sponging artists acrylic , burnt umber over black , with a light sploge of browns mixed in , straight from the tube. then i added pastels , scraped over the paint.

@Anpu-adom Cool name matey and thanks

I need to clear my table so i can do some painting , but want to put together the cadians first any how heres what i did today.. regards all

Wow, impressive physique! I love their poses and style. They look plenty cool, but I can't help but feel a little disturbed at the sight of some of their limbs. Some just have more realistic proportions, some are far beyond.
But feth that, it's just me, they are great! They are genhanced and all so that's well possible and even without any scientific alterations nature doesn't make us to look alike.
Undor Gongor is the proof:

Now anyone can tell me one can't use 28mm models from company X with company Y because of the size comparison... That guy was a 54mm in the middle of 28mms.

P.S. I'm happy to have spoiled you weapon-conversion-wise. Special weapons deserve special pics, let see the heavy bolter in all it's splendor.

Hi folks ,

Spent some time sorting out some the the issues with the scouts yesterday , i added baggier pants to stave off that long limbed condition, they seemed to be suffering from.

@Vik I love that the beefy catachans look like school girls next to scouts i did try and sort out the legs , i found a pic from dow2 that goes a long way in sorting out the true scale issues of scouts , most pics show them as regular sized humans and i though this doesnt seem right , if they are proto space marines surely they would be huge too. especially towars the end of the training.

@Monkey , Protein drinks are for babies , these guys drink Stout

@Baiyuan Its a strange thing trying to do realistic art scale marines , because everyone has their own interpretations because of the intentional void Gw has created in this respect , i have seen some really nice ones over this last few months , but nearly all were to scale with the dumpy cadians , to do them to scale against true scale cadians , the needed to be even bigger, Now thats not a problem in itself , but scaling up even more , means that the arms and guns look out of proportion, with the long limbed marines , I didnt want them to look like huge gorrillas , ( well except the heavy and seargent ) they had to look nimble and agile enough, , There are so many artistics interpretations of marines , its a hard choice choosing the ones you want to represent. in the end i went for style and drama and anatomically correct bodies for this scale , They look weird becuase like you say a 9 foot guy no matter how well proportioned , will look weird against the norm, and if the norm is the weird gw proportions , ( that work for big battles and board games but not macro photography imo)

@j3r03n Cheers matey , ( you need a nickname btw that is too hard to write ) tried to eleaviate the long limbs issue , now they look like tehre wearing squiggly duds, from the weightlifting Gym

so tiny update and some reference pics .still working on the last pose of the final scout , was thinking something really dramatic, maybe taking a tau drone as a shield

the leg issue for my part now seems pretty solved, in fact the texture of the trousers looks very good! and does "cyclops wear a kneacapprotector? looks like that and if so

Happy to have finished the scouts now and look forward to clearing up my kaka and starting some brush work I am quite happy with them , the scale and poses i like , some of the lacklustre green stuffing , i am frustrated with , for an impatient mabn , green stuff is a curse. i hate haveing to let it cure , so nine times out of ten i dont and end up with a gak

But I am still happy with my lose style , and have no desire to start working any other way i think it allows me to work qiuckly and avoid boredom, I think the only time i will ever work neat , is if i was doing commision work, or for competitions.

I also started work on a TS Marine , that i thought would be part of a as yet unstarted inquisitorial warband . something to work towards , i think. I still havent worked much on the lucky sevens, as i am waiting for more dust tactics legs that i cant afford just yet .

Thanks for looking

@ Vik Hey mate Yep he is pretty hefty , Initiate Parvus is his name form now on , Tiny in latin. I tried to base him on the old gw scouts that looked like goliaths and wore the bell bottom leg guards , i loved those guys when i had advanced space crusade, so he was a homage to them .
Spoiler:

http://z15.invisionfree.com/The_Great_Crusade/ar/t55.htm

and the scout does wear a knee protector

@Paranoia Agent , hey matey , Thanks a lot , just need some paint on em now.

update: tried to get this last guy to add some dynamism to the group. he looks taller than the rest , but thats just his basing.

a touch? a touch? i should think more a grab^^

very cool pose... i think quite fitting...if you are a hulking space marine adept you would also not just shoot your enemy but smash him with every thing at hand ...even if the next thing at hand is one of your enemies...^^ because lets face it, they might still look cool as scouts but they crave the suit...dontcha think so?^^
and a bit the new pose reminds me of ...how to put it... captain america...
also seeing those scouts in all their GS glory, i jhave to say that nice green suits them quite well...maybe a future hint on the paintjob to be...

I like it Neil, I alwasy wondered why GW made the IG appear to be armorless SM In height and scale? I mean the basic marine should be at least a head TALLER than IG at the very least, and here you had that one guy on the base, no rocks or wreckage that showed quite well how tall they ought to be once the bones and musculature were enhanced. Excellent!

Post by: neil101

Hey Ho dak.

Been working on the true scale sm today. I had decided that I wanted to use him for an inquisitorial warband, with that being the case I took the oppertunity to do some gothic work on him. Originally he was going to be a regular tactical marine. Now He is a Death Watch brother captain of the watch.

Former Wolf guard veteran. Currently on a classified mission to retrieve geneseed containers from the besieged Sythes of the Emperor , on death world Miral. Surrounded and cut off by hive fleet Kraken , the remains of the decimated chapter, are putting on a gorrilla war. Desperate to save the lineage , the chapter master requseted help, and inquisitor Vendrake and the death watch answered.

Spoiler:
Second Tyrannic War (992.M41)
Main article: Second Tyrannic War

Among the planets overwhelmed by the locust-tide of Tyranid hive fleet Kraken was the chapter's homeworld Sotha. Even for a well-defended Chapter planet, there was little hope against such vast numbers and relentless hunger, and in the end the Chapter brethren were killed in the last stand on the planet. All brethren were presumed destroyed, but a small number had escaped in order to preserve their chapter and geneseed.

Sotha, along with so many other planets in the inexorable advance of the Kraken, was reduced to the state of an asteroid by the Tyranid swarms. Two hundred Marines broke through the Tyranid assault. With much of the region overwhelmed by the Tyranids, there was nowhere to escape. The last of the Scythes eventually landed on the Miral death world. Somewhere on the surface of this planet, a huge rocky outcrop called the Giant's Coffin rose from the jungle. The surviving forces of the Scythes prepared to make this their final stronghold. The Giant's Coffin was a tremendous natural citadel whose steep cliffs would slow the invaders and the rocky promontories would provide excellent firing positions for heavy weapons.4

Although the defenses of the Scythes were strong they were still overwhelmed. Their Chapter Master Thorcyra met his end on Miral and the Scythes were forced to withdraw. Captain Thrasius became the new Chapter Master and planned a series of hit and run attacks against the Tyranids. This pattern of defense and retreat continued until Hive Fleet Kraken was finally broken by the Ultramarines on Ichar IV. 6

The fate of the planet is unknown, although at the end of the Tyranid onslaught, little more than a company of the Scythes of the Emperor remained.2

@ Vik , yellow black , i like that Vik , Great minds think alike , Sythes of the emperor it is for these boys now it all makes sense http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Scythes_of_the_Emperor

@Monkey Good job I missed that sutherland pic last night , or I too would be suffering from the body snatcher nightmares ..( Shudders )
Fluff problem eleiviated thanks to vik , the scouts are part of the remaining Sythes of the Emperor Chapter stranded on death world Miral , see above

@Shazo Thanks Shazo , i tried really hard to do justice to the height thing, from a artistic point of view i prefer huge dramatic marines , that could squash you with one boot, but i doubt i would build a whole army this way , too much hassle. I have this recuring idea of a Mrine droppodding into a civalised world and saving its inhabitants , and them looking on gobbsmaked at his huge size, and only then realising thats why they and everyone eles worships the empreror

So C&C welcome , i havent condireded him finished yet , so any ideas or chnages will be greatfully listend to

Introducing Deathwatch captain of the Watch Former, Wolf Guard Veteran of Fenris ..... Brother Captain Vanaheimr

Plucked from the venerated Fenrisian Wolf guard by Inquisitor Vendrake at the tender age of one hundred and one. Vanheimr excelled in the tight knight deathwath brotherhood. Losing his right arm to a Tyranid Heirophant Bio titan whilst defending the emabattled Scythes of the Emperor scouts on the Miral death world. replaced with a Commisar yarrick Powerclaw replica many years later , by skilled death watch techpriests.

Hotdayum!! Those TS-scouts look awesome!! I'm definitely a fan of very-dynamic miniatures versus subdued/regal. That final scout looks as if he just revealed himself in some kinda crazy John Woo sneak attack!

I like that marine as well (all of them, in fact) - I like also that your method is different from the ways other people have done it- lots of greenstuff work and big, ragged, billowing capes with texture.

This is fantastic work!! You're making me want to go TS with my 1K sons... but too much work has already gone into them! No matter... perhaps a TS Dornian Heresy Ultra-smurf army in the future? That Damocles-style armor is the business!

hey neil, was a bit nonplussed by the style of the fluff... until i understood that it was in fact official and not from your quill...so i have made an impact it seems *blushes of pride* well there is a thing with black and yello...will you do the same scheme as schon for the scythes or will you adapt it in a way...for me a fairer torso looks like an invitation to shoot off some bodyparts.... instead i would suggest giving them something like that:

the new marine model also surprised me... at first i had some orky feel but after reading a bit of the fluff his transformation made sense to me...he is even bigger than the scouts and this is fully logic as he is wearing power armor and he should look thus bulkier...
i hope these get some lick of paint soon...

cheers, vik

Two things:
1. IMHO the drone as a shield is complete crap and ruins an otherwise excellent model. Just me, no offense, just honesty.
2. I want to have babies with you! The reason is your TS marine. It seems like you slapped that guy together in a couple of hours, which would have taken others a month or two and he turned out great.

My personal highlight is the backpack. I hate it when people bulk up their marines insanely, but equip them with standard backpacks. Tons of detail and great pose are also a big plus.
Only downside and only a really nitpicky one, he has got a bit too much parchment and cloth going on for a SW, imo even for one under deathwatch command.

Neil! Amazing work as always, loving this true-scale patch you're going through! The space wolf in particular is a tour de force - feels like you've got the proportions nailed down. I think some of the arms on the scouts could use a tiny bit of work (the guy with the cyclops visor, for example, looks like his R arm starts a little too far down his body IMO, though it may just be the camera angle!), but as a whole they are awesome. Once again, can't believe how quickly you're knocking out such spectacular work! (Your IG are still my favourite though - no need for all this pansy massive armour and genetic engineering...)

@Baiyuan - Hahaha, you don't mince your words, do you mate?

Wow, yea... I second Scarper- can we get a quick rundown on that rust technique..? Or did you actually use a rusty pipe for that??

Good stuff!

Liking the new guy a lot. Really enjoying the whole gothic, billowing capes and parchment thing you've got going with these guys, very evocative.

Aye up guys , hope your all well

sorry this blog has being neglected for the last few weeks , had some heavy personal stuff to sort out , wont go into detail as i am using dakka to move past it , but dont worry , Amber and the boys are fine as am I well all except for the odd argument about pocket money and washing up duties

oh yes and if anyone missed the pimp my wizard and pimp my sorceror fun and games , i am working on a new project for baiyuan and peters competetition that Panic is also running here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/376647.page and here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/378516.page

So i know Vik is on vacation , from dakka hope your having a great time with the family Vik

i have promised to post fluff for the project in the forum , but i can work on the rest onf the models in here Their will be around five with one being made in the pmw forum.

havent started any yet though

@Hfizanagi thanks matey , i think you heresy boys look fine enough in regular scale, i would never consider true scale for an army , far too much work , and money

@Vik i will probably go for yellow chest and black pants for the sythes , but i am rather fickel so that could change. lick of paint on the way

@Baiyuan staright to point as per Baiyuan , although i do agree with you , the tau shield has now gone replace with a plasma pistol , never let it be siad i cant take constructive critism however it comes as for the babies , man i already have three , maybe next year i nearly never upscaled the backpack , but he is so big it looked stupidly small , quite happy with the style , although is a little thin needs more depth really. and sorry the flowing flowy flows are gonna stay , thats just a personal thing i love . i might neaten them up a little in future as i tighten my style though

@medabee thanks medabee.. scree in the vents ?

@scarper cheers matey , totally agree that the some of the scouts need some work , infact the cyclops one was my first and i really dont like him now, gotta get changed

Ig are always my favourite one man one lasgun one universe will be working on them soon i think.

@Dawi-Marine'Va thanks

@weety its not possble to make you look unproductive , but monkeys grots are doing a fine job for me though

@Perkustin thanks mate, i think i get a tiny bit more patience with every model. the bits are from some of Baileys ultra smurfs

@Hf Izanagi scarper , the rust is just sponged on burnt umber acrylic , using kithen sponge then a couple of lighter browns for depth. just like idid with the tank , not sure what page thats on though, next time i do a building i shalll document it. oh and then pastels shaved on top

@monkey Cheers monkey , i like the billowy stuff , feels like i am painting rather than building.

so nothing much to show , but i did do some graphics for the sceond chapter of the Acteaon comic , not finished all the pages yet , but i may as well show what i did so far.

starts dircetly fter the first.

an i nearly forgot i have being researching some mythical deamons ,

Comic looks cool, and I'm sorry to hear you're still arguing with Amber about your pocket money. Now go do the dishes like a nice boy.

Reference stuff looks interesting, but that'll wait till tomorrow now for a good browse.

Take it easy..
