I just love the poem in the style of Lewis Carroll more 40k battle reports should be done in nonsense verse!

Dunno how I missed this, but it's phenomenal! Your scenery is totally awesome and inspiring. Hyped-detailed and convincing...it must make for some sweet gaming!

Time for me to start over...
Dude, think how I feel.
I can't think of anything that hasn't already been said, so imagine a lot of glowing praise and a lot of different words to describe inspiration and admiration.
Superlative is a good word but a bit technical. 'Awesome' is overused on dakka, 'nice' or 'great' are too small for this. 'wicked' is a bit 1990s. How about mind-boggling?
Hey folks.. Took a bit of rest after the Ygg event .. working on a few bits for another INQ28 session .
@IronBars Thanks for the support mate. it was quite a push from all involved to get the game off to a good start .. hopefully its just the start though. ;-)
@Pete yep more of that next time please mate.
@whalemusic360 Good point mate.. although the last time I tried to make cash from models didn't go so well , don't think I have the head for business.
@Ghost Flame Cheers buddy.. shame i didnt take better pics really , made next time .. its supposed to getting an airing at Molotovs Next INQ28 bash this Saturday ..so will try and take some nice pics .. not going to be as flustered this time.
@Llamahead , Love the jabberwocky , grim dark cookie for you If i am ever in the west country .. I will keep my eyes peeled mate , cheers.
@:Weety,, Thanks Weets , its kinda weird meeting your idols .. I know we shouldn't really create them, after all were only human .. and as a rule I don't but ideas leftover from child hood have a way of sticking around.
@Cave dweller thanks, i have only played four games in fifteen years .. hoping to change that though.
@Skalk oh i have a great imagination .. let me just soak that in for a minute or two cheers matey.
@CC.. why what happened twenty pages back @language is so ...mmm...er...tsk......limited
Hey folks , I have been taking it easy modelling wise .. nothing too taxing.. Vendrake will be getting an outing on Saturday for Mols INQ28 event the Requiem. I did a bit of fluff for that over at Opus ,
But i thought i would share the sarcophagus and reliquary machine i made for the day.. also worked on a few NPC characters ..I finally get the chance to make Naval types.. yeah!
no paint on the minis yet.. though.. Looking forward to just working on a few personal bits and taking my time over the next few months .. my head is back in Praxus mode for the moment..
was another great day for 40k narrative hobbying with quite a few folks from around the globe sending minis to molotov http://inq28.blogspot.co.uk/ to participate.
although I took the opportunity to chill out and take photos more than anything else.
have to pick up halo for Bj today .. quite looking forward to seeing it actually .
regards
Neil
Go on Baiyuan ...join us...join us.... or at least make a model and post it to Pete or Mol for round three ;-) would be fantastic to see what you come up with. and it might give you a reason actually finish something
have to say JRN's Velk as played by Fulgrim is just the best Character.. such a dastardly cad and yet no one can pin anything on him. Although my fave Inquistor model is Benadice .. what a personality fearsome to behold. Guidonis as to be expected looked unbelievable ..check out the vains and wrinkles on his head..simply stunning
Really cool stuff, love all the photos even if I am not entirely sure what is going on - looks a bit like a Cadian version of Pac-Man, or perhaps the world's most grimdark hedge maze.
I'm going to have to put together an Inquisitor, I've been pondering and plotting for long enough.
One question - is all this stuff that you do strictly limited to GW components?
@Brianc credit goes to all involved as per usual Mol bringing the threads together under his coherent vision of Dalthus.
I was particularly impressed with Oldguards terrain as usual.. his attention to detail mind bogglin.. everyone involved made a huge effort to be there and it's that sort of commitment that forces you to not let other folk down .. although i couldnt do it every week ..the travelling takes its toll as does the blogging tbh but the oppertunity to participate in such events really ignites my creative passion .. working out how to display images and tell visual stories is a big draw for me ..and of course having real history to the events that surround Praxus does make it easier to write stories about such things.
@Bruticus Yep thats how we all felt .. controlled chaos of a boarding action.. putting the images together took so long i didnt really have time to exoplain what happend ...not that i could there was so much going on on the board.. but i have an idea to draw it all together better in the next few blogs .
Would be great to see an Inquisitor Bruticus .. rubs hands.. and good question ...as far as i know technically you cant game with non GW minis in Warhammer world .as this is where the InqVitational has taken place i think its best assumed that GW minis only.. although i have seen a few conversions that included bits form other ranges ..
I personally just thinks it rude to go the GWHQ and game on their terrain using other brands of minis .. but that's just me kinda old school in that respect .. and i think it goes without saying if actual GW staff were to be involved even in a private hobby role I doubt this would reflect well on those folks. Of course there are other games linked to the Dalthan Sub that take place out of Warhammer World .. Kerravin is organising such event within Loidis , these will take place at a comic shop in Leeds .. and I would love to have small campaign with the Famorian techpriest at some point ..i imagine this would take place on my dining room table or Petes so i could use what i want Potatoes for spaceships it is.The challenge that using using GW only bits for the Inq28 retinue for me is quite refreshing . I enjoy seeing the design links from Jes Goodwins sketches made real ..like the wrist bands on the dark eldar wrack that look just like the wristbands on his drawing of his naval officers.. from 1989 ! its these small almost imperceptible details that draw me into 40k ..and with fine cast i can easily make my grim dark realities possible . On the other hand i do enjoy the vast amounts of plastic you get for your money with Perry minis and love the look of the zombies and ghouls from mantic ..so much plastic for so little cash.. then again no one does grimdark 40k better than forge world.
I guess in the end its a personal choice and the final decision would be Molotov's as the INQ28vitational event is organised by him.. although I honestly don't see him agreeing to anything that might jeopardise his work either . I wouldn't want to get anyone in to trouble or be asked to leave or put away models i have slaved over .. after travelling for two hours so i choose to use official GW products when gaming in WW so its a no brainer for me.
On a personal note though i do think the GW product range is enjoying a bit of a boom at the moment ..and for me there is plenty on offer for my inspiration so its not an issue for me ..although i do like some warseer legs for my Rogue trader.. will have to try and find a 40k version.
I've been planning an Inquisitor for a while (i even made a couple that didn't pass muster). All this stuff has just inspired me to bump him up the construction line order. I'll post something soon.
As for being old school about using other brands of minis - I see it the opposite way, back in the day GW encouraged using other company's products, like Marauder for example. It's a bit of a shame as there are some great 3rd party bits and other well sculpted ranges and I've certainly used them extensively in my gangs - I don't even have many minis made from 100% GW parts. I'm quite into variety and hunting out unusual parts personally, although no-one else makes plastic kits to GWs standard.
But yeah I see your point about gaming in Warhammer World, especially now that a lot of these companies make their money by treading a thin line of copyright infringement. I'll make my Inq out of 100% GW bits, but I'll keep with 3rd party bits elsewhere.
I thought marauder was part of GW ? or citadel ? or at least under the same umbrella ? Do you remember the shampoo bottle hover car ? but i guess back then like you say things were a lot simpler with regards to IP in fact i never heard heard the word ip until the naughties ,, copyright infringement yes but not Intellectual property .. i guess thats what you get for being successful bit of fallacy really anyhow the whole idea .. every idea in history is inspired by something else ..i find it slightly bizarre you can copyright an idea at all buts that's folks for ya..it that's an aspect of the hobby i have no desire to get into.. its about money and i am only here for the art models and stories. When i fist got back into the hobby i felt GW had let go of, or were not bothered about the stuff i was interested in .. in fact that was the draw tbh i had free range .. necromunda confrontation inquisitor.. i guess these aspects will always be ripe for creativity because they dont really appeal to mass audience .. i could be cynical and say it felt like gw was only interested in selling huge armies because that's what makes money .. but tbh i dont really care about that.. I have no money and yet i still spend a fortune on the products over other model ranges.. that's because i love the mythology and respect the folks that contributed to create that . the ones that have left and some of them that still work for that company that owns the mythology that was created by artists writers model makers .. I have no interest in any other aspect of the company really i like the mythology
In every other respect games workshop is like every other businesses out there ..its about making money .. i am not daft enough to realise that the hobby i love is part of a wider businesses that acts like a business.. and if it didn't it wouldn't be here now.. not that i am defending them either.. the company has made many mistakes in my eyes over the years that have made me as a consumer sad. I like art not business.. I like the truth amongst the haze. But i had faith that it wasn't going to all go to pot .. and at the moment i feel that my faith in a company i loved as child is paying dividends somewhat.. Ize colt of the spiky rat pack posted a blog about the golden age of gaming and I agree in many many ways the past years has surpassed my expectations .. the product line is phenomenal at the moment.. I still cant afford most of it but , its very inspiring to see such transformation.. it makes me smile like a kid .. i don't believe anyone owes anyone else anything.. in this way i am cynic .. gw doesn't owe me anything and likewise I do my hobby because i enjoy it when i don't enjoy i will stop.. Gw runs its business to make money when it stops making money it will stop .. but whilst its here i am glad and i am proud to partake in such a wonderful hobby and such a vibrant community .. i have neglected this blog for some time ..partly because i don't feel like its mine ..but rather dakka's partly because my life was rather stressful this time last year as my father died.. and i just couldn't blog like i used to any more and partly because it stopped inspiring me .. and felt more like a chat room than a bloging space ..( not that dont like to chat form time to time ) I wanted to move on and do real art for myself .. spend more time working and not blogging and not having to feel guilty about it. that's why i created the opus maius blog.. to try and do greater work for my self.. and not only 40k or wfb stuff other stuff.. as it happens i have done very little other stuff .. but i still feel the work i have done has been great.. not in egoist way just in a i don't think i could have done any better sort of way
I agree there are some amazing model makers out their .. some who tap right into the grimdark ..and i have many of their models .. but its the same principle as any restaurant or pub or bar that doesn't allow you take in your own food drink etc.. we all do it fro time to time but they still have the right to ask you to leave
kinda turned into a bit of rant that . sorry about that ..i guess i feel a guilty about not blogging here as regular after i have had so much support over the years .. just felt like i needed to explain to folks ..
Ah it looks like you are right about Marauder, although they started as a separate company they eventually merged. I didn't realise they were so intertwined. I remember the shampoo bottle hover car but the thing that I remember more is how in the past scenery makers would use random junk as well as 3rd party/model train stuff even in White Dwarf. And I guess because the distinction didn't exist in scenery I never thought about it too much in the models. I always felt like Necromunda was only partially about the GW models and largely about all the random crap you could find for them to live in.
Yep those were the days .. Plastic container houses .. and embracing creativity over product.. you only have to look back to the start of this blog to see how much i agree with you ;-)
I still see that creativity in the hobby in fact its what keeps me in it. there was plenty of junk on the ygg board ;-) I missed the release of necromunda tbh , i was working too much at that point .. but it sounds like you have that spot on confrontation is more my bag ,, and they didn't release any terrain for that.. so its all up for grabs .. upsire walkways of marble ..industrial stuff like you make and sunken sumps like the ygg .the ralph mohr sketch that shows the train tubes is something i have wanted to create for along time , sat in the middle of an ash waste. . never happen now though .. no more stupidly big projects for the foreseeable future.
where do you keep all your stuff ?a garage or workshop ? mine is under the dining room table lol
although monkey is the king of packing away terrain .. he lives on a boat ;-0
Everything I build gets taken straight round to my friend's house so I don't need to worry about storage. It takes up a couple of shelving units in the corner of his living room, not as much space as you'd expect I think - the benefit of lots and lots of small bits. The drawback is that it takes ages to set up/put away.

I'd love to join you and I'd love to finish something =I= related, but for several reasons I don't see it happening too soon. Before I get back to =I= stuff I'll have to take care of some more relevant and practical projects. I've got just too much stuff going on to focus on those crazy character projects. First off I'm atm deeply in love with Infinity and I'm working hard to get my Aleph ready for gaming. Secondly, when I find the time to get back to my munda stuff (which I definitely will sooner or later) I'll probably focus on the game-related stuff first and paint some of the finished conversions before working on one of the open conversion projects. Above all I want to make progress on my gaming table, once I'm done with my Aleph and the table I'll make sure to fit in some more inspiring work here and there, but until then I'll have to stay focussed.
Never the less the stuff you guys got going on is enviable and it really make me want to whip out something grimdark...
Neil, I've been following the progress here closely for awhile(as well as on Opus Maius) and I haven't posted feedback as it really is somewhat hard to encapsulate just how amazing your projects are in their scope. Your article on terrain has really motivated me to get after my table that has sat untouched for many months. I find it amazing and yet very fitting even John Blanche himself has joined the fun with you guys! Seriously, it is guys like you and PDH and others that have filled a void that White Dwarf left vacant many years ago, and inspire creativity and wonder in what this hobby can be. My hat is off to you, sir.
When I get my Scavvy gang built and painted I'm naming plague zombies after you and Peter.
Well what can you say to that I have always wanted a zombie named after me such an honour .. I wouldn't worry about Pete though , He doesn't like zombies I'll take both
Seriously though, I am glad you enjoy the blogs enough to comment , I often find myself wondering who the anonymous folk are who read them . its always nice to know who your talking to thanks mate. I don't recall the terrain article tbh , I was planning on writing up one on opus though so it could be that your referring to , if so. really glad it was of use .I love terrain , Dave Andrews and co are the undisputed masters , just looking back though some old pics and realising it was his dioramas as much as anything else back in then day that probably inspired me to get into the hobby , really glad to see terrain getting its rightful place amongst the new wd articles . Inspiring stuff indeed. Also seeing some of the WW tables up close is very inspiring
Spoiler:
Although looking through your gallery pics , you don't seem like a person who is lacking in inspiration..
It goes without saying , Its an incredible personal honour to be able to have a few games with Peter and Mr Blanche.. although it will always mean my models are painted the worst
looking forwards toward my next project at the moment, must resist starting to build .....
@ Bruticus , yep nice 1970s American foot ball shirt

Heh, Pete gets a zombie only if to annoy him about not making zombies.
I may be confusing the terrain thing being it's own article, and thinking back it may have just been in the WD article(this could be wrong too, my memory is terrible these days!), but you were talking about terrain being just as essential as the models in creating an atmosphere. Anyway, that really rang true for me, and I've had a 4x4 folding table I need to actually add terrain to for my Necro gaming, and your stuff really makes me want to step up my efforts on it.
Also seeing some of the WW tables up close is very inspiring
That bit of scenery is just 4x Forgeworld Plasma Blastguns! That's £144 just for those bits... and they still just look like Plasma Blastguns sticking upright out of the ground. Not sure I am very impressed by that, besides the fact that it must be fun to so casually chop up that much expensive resin.
I hate zombies....well 40k zombies anyway because i cannot find any i like....other than those warhammer bad boys on the front of the corpse cart but they are proper warhammery.
Next years project is an undead mordheim warband just to mess with you mofo's :-p
Hey Folks , Just a little update a bout a new project ..
Some folks may remember I wrote a short story a while back about a Mutant born on Praxus who was subsequently hunted by the female chief judge Lyons and the noble 9th cavalry regiment . Well I thought I would revisit this story for my latest project . Over the prevailing years the mutant Seith has become a very powerful cult leader in the wilds of Praxus . Now Known as the Dark lord and his cult of the creeping shadow His reign of terror on the itinerant Praxian nomads the "Unknown" is at its end Finally found by the chief Judge Lyons , She has informed her superiors within the Dalthan Capital Arbitratory .. Who have Ordered a Arbite Purgation squad be formed under the remit of the Ordo Hereticus to cleanse the Foul Beast Once and for all.
The inspiration came from the artwork of Dave Gallagher from the Inquisitor rulebook . which was one of the Character cards Vendrake won at the June Inqvitational .

Story
Spoiler:
Seith
Born with severe mutations , Seith Narodnik's Plebian parents hid the boy from imperiums gaze , in the swelling crowds of the vulgus quater. His life among the vulgus opened his eyes to the plight of the great unwashed , Seith ashamed of his mutated apperance felt he could relate to the their suffering, dedicating his life to helping the poor wretches , the robed Seith formed the plebian Narodniks , a group of plebian workers who believed the plight of the Vulgus could be overturned through petitioning the Imperial Governors palace.
Unfortunately , The letters had no effect, and frustrated with the apathy of the ruling class and the Ecclisiarchy , the Narodniks work soon turned violent. The small group began a terror campaign that led to the assassination of Praxus primes Pontifex Urba, a man of great standing and import. Overjoyed at their own success the Narodniks claimed the the deed for the benefit of the Vulgus. But the Vulgus scared of repercussions , denounced the actions of the Narodniks. Incensed by this spineless betrayal , the Narodniks disbanded , leaving Seith to grow bitter and twisted in his despondency. It was during one of his black moods , that the mutants mind snapped , Seiths untapped link with the warp became uncorked , and the whispering hate fuelled words of the Chaos gods crept most welcome into his heart.
It wasn't long before Seith began murdering his Victims. Choosing his prey from the many Vulgus not to be missed was easy work for a man used to blending in. Eventually the word was out , a killer stalked the Vulgus , a cold hearted murderer of the poor. His mind totally corupted by the foul chaos gods , Seith rejoiced in his work .His psychic self growing stronger by the day.
It was Chief Arbite judge lions that tracked down the murdering fiend , trapped like a fox in one of the many alleyways of the vulgus quater, The judge offered no remit and ordered her repressor to attack the defenceles Seith. Lost in his own mind Seith was barely controlling his own body when he unleashed the fury of a warp spawned psychic attack.
The reppressor tossed like an old tin can. Seith was gone, teleported to the wild of praxus in an instant , his mind numb from exhaustion.
Since that day Chief judge Lions has stopped at nothing to track the wretched beast to its lair. The noble 9th has been used on occasion to hunt out the killer, but more often than not all they find are the bones of his victims displayed in some gruesome totem. He now preys on the Unknown , the wilderness people of Praxus , the descendants of the farmers who refused to sign the plebian treaty. Who wander The Praxian continents living as Nomads off the land.
original Seith as a young man escaping imperial justice into the wilds of Praxus
Wow! What is the base model for that!? Looks like Rackham? Either way that model oozes badassery, and you really managed to transfer the feel of the artwork into the mini. Nice!
Hey vit , its the forge world sorcerer sayle . its a great model I picked it up for the chaos beast that came with it for the ygg board illium. But I think it's perfect for the dark lord . still lots to add not sure if I should add the hands inside the fists ?
I'm not sure about the hands tbh. It certainly doesn't need it at the moment, and i think power fists work just fine. The hands inside the fists take away from his 'power' imo, makes him seem more human and less threatening.
Using Sayle as the base model works perfectly. The horns round his head are such a good match to the picture.
I think the right power fist arms needs to be bent at the elbow. Currently it makes me think of John Travvolta. I think adding two bolt pistols along the edges of the power fists is necessary too. But rather than use those power fists I think the claws from one of these would look better
I disagree with Vit. Having his arms within the power fist would make him look more human which in this case I think emphasises the point...that he is only human with excellent equipment. He would still be threatening. I imagine it would be difficult to get the hands into the power fist and show them off.
Have you started painting/finished the Admiral yet?
Glad to see a new conversion up here, I'd noticed that forgeworld model before, nice parts. I think the head might be too high up judging from where the shoulders are but can't tell exactly, and he looks like quite a narrow guy anyway.
Two powerfists looks great, of course it suffers from the same problem as my guys with two chainsaws for hands - the occasionally fatal itchy nose conundrum.
I think you have the head seated perfectly now, maybe it was just the angle of the shot before but it looked too high up.
So these new things look interesting but we're really going to need better photos. I simply have to demand a few more photos of that flying thing with the feathered wings (spent a while there trying to think how to describe it). The fat one with something hanging from it's head. It looks amazing. (E: ah it's a cockatrice torso and wings, finally figured it out)
Those are the feet from fiends of slaanesh right? I noticed that those would make for some interesting conversions.
Personally I am not keen on anyone riding giant wolves, it's just not an idea I am into. Although I suppose it works in Princess Mononoke. Mainly I think it looks ridiculous when space marines do it.
Terrific work, Neil! You've got so much going on, man, that's great.
Peter's comments on the chaos guy were spot-on and it looks so much better with the new claws.
Also kudos for translating that artwork into miniature reality, it's one of the really iconic ones.
Hmm I'm spotting a pattern here...I have a break from Dakka and neil starts showing cool work again...I'm off for a year neil - anything on my threads will just be the grots keeping it alive
Nice choice of inspiration...I've been thinking that would be a cool dio for a while, but at my pace and current project that's not happening anytime this millenium. Great job, captured the source well
Flying children of lilith looking sweet too...keep it coming mate....
Monkey Troll....don't go too far away. I got to see these and fight against the ladies (and gent) yesterday.... Neil has knocked them out of the park and they look really ****ing ace. Daddy's wings are brilliant!
Come on Neil get snapping I want to see them again.
aye up guys , what's all this nonsense about breaking fingers , trust monkey to be involved in trouble
@ bruticus glad you like the harpies , but sorry to hear you don't like my wolf rider I saw this painting a while back when I was writing the story of Che - Valrick ( whose head I have now lost to the old gaptoothed floorboard monster )
yep feet are slaanesh fiends seeks .. i forget lots of green stuff to get them to work- the matriarch has a huge ass now...
@ Rogue cheers mate .. kinda messed up the painting on the matriarch , was a bit rushed and the first thing i painted this year.
@Moltar Cheers Molt, the chaso dud might be getting changed for a new project , not sure yet ..
@ Baiyuan Hey big B , hope your well mate , yeah Pete is always right , when it comes to converting isn't he , ( don't tell him i said that though ) not sure on the dark lord any more tbh , i might give it a miss and use him for something else, I ha d kinda envisioned him on a old corrupted stag , but i couldn't find the right model tbh. also i seemed to be trying for a near copy but really i would need to start that form scratch for that to work wouldn't I ? not that i was scared of buggering up such a classic image no not that at all
@ Monkey I am also getting a theme , baiyuan the big white ape and a cheeky monkey on my thread one after another ... Darwin would be proud ( there were so many funny monkey pictures i wanted to add to that post , but you will have to just use your imagination now because my fingers are getting tired form typing .. yes definitely typing
lilith has cousins apparently , get around those virile harpie boys
qoute " anything on my threads will just be the grots keeping it alive" that's no way to talk about your loyal followers monkey
@ Pete , bloody hell it takes ages to write up a decent battle report , I am knackered , hope you all appreciate it just kidding what else would i be doing , oh yeah the drains ..
@ Monkey yes ! your all very naughty and don't deserve the pretties , I challenge thee Ordo dakka to duel ...to be held on monkey boat at noon. weapon of choice.. erm... grots..!
or maybe not.. just want to do justrice to the presentation , It has been known for dakkites are touchy about my crappy pictures ..
@ Mullet-steve .. right back to the duel then..
so as you may or maynot know , Peter Pdh myself Fulgrim rise of the magi and JB had impromptu gaming session last Saturday , I have putting together the report and what nots since then , I put it opus yesterday , and thought i would share the wips and a few pics here too , I wont repost the whole thing , if you interested just follow the link to the opus maius blog.
i made a bit of scenery for the game , which was built and painted in one evening .. so the basing is a bit meh, but I did the job. I painted the Harpie family in blue as tribute to the late great great Ray Harryhausen harpies in the Jason and the Argonauts flick., the metal rods are a bit of genius if i say so myself , I couldn't find anything slim and string enough to hold the bigger harpies up. but then i grabbed a spare bit of railway track , it was light and strong and didn't bend easily perfect ! quick and dirty paint job later an the game was on ..
Hye shazo ! , hope your talking about my kids because they behave lovely .
@ Aye up Izanagi , good question , but neither actually , Pete and tim sorted out the skirmish rules, with panache, they included mordehiem 40k and probably loads of other rules books , you should really ask Pete , he is far better at that stuff than I , It was a pleasure to see it actually , darting back and forth in-between books to get something that fitted. I recall Pete using necromunda at one point for the falling rule as it did more damage , when i dropped a dodderman on his clan. explosions and guffaws followed.
Neil! I have not been here in a while, and I apologize. I've already been singing your praises on Peter's Yggdrasillium thread, but your freaking gang is wicked good!
The subdued colors on the gang look subtly... mouldy... and that Curator (is he the leader?) floating is just plain nasty looking. The flowing scrolls/cloth/parchments look great - really has a feeling of Inquisitor straight out of a Blanche illustration. Kudos!
hey folks .. just wanted to share some text i wrote for the clan.. and thank folk for commenting @ faster than light cheers bud good to seeya again mate.
and as always monkey, well Opus is down for the time being so i concentrate on actually modelling for a change..
not forgetting my old chum shazo , Yeah i know mate
@ xeno creeping out is good thanks.
and the new
@ remi , arh thanks mate too kind.. and not to worry i have been absent a fair bit yeh the Rayta is the leader..although he is not much use tbh..
@ Bruticus , hey matey , good to seeya .. glad you like em mate , they were real quick but i like em too. i think i will continue in this vain for a while ..
i have some wips but they will have to wait for now as i am pushed for time , have good weekend folks

and a nice pic of the fat one getting towel whipped into submission by peters Echo priest sidekick
Have you ever read any China Mieville? Your writing reminds me of him sometimes. He has a book about mouldywarps called Railsea (as I mentioned in email, although it's not a great book) and he also has a similar weird Britishness to his sci-fi in his Bas-Lag books.
@Bruticus i will have take a look at china Melville's work i think it might be up my street .. cheers mate.
@ Pdh
@ earthbeard .. Thanks yeah fantasy RPG was the look i was after. glad that comes through.
,Aye up folks
I made a sci fi Antarctica inspired 3by3 gameboard recently for a game of inq28
I took plenty of snaps whilst making it , and when i have time i will upload the wips.. might come in handy if anyone else is making ice / snow effect stuff.
Spoiler:
quote from Opus Maius " I learned a few new tricks in the process , casting with clear resin and I used an airbrush for the first time. following the age old salt weathering and hairspray techniques for the buildings and pipes .
the rock molds are from woodland scenics and the snow effect was created by mixing pva glue with woodland scenics snow effect - woodland scenics realistic water with the snow effect - and woodland scenics water effects with the snow effect. in different places .
this was over a base coat of liquid nails , extruded polystyrene and expanded polystyrene spray .
that was washed with turquoise ink
the ice affect is poured clear resin over painted liquid nails.
the houses/hab units are half drainpipes with added detail from the gw manufactorum kit . and a few toy bits from gi goe i think .
the stairs are from the GW Dave Andrews trench kit
the whole thing is based on 3mm mdf , which in hindsight was too thin i think. ;-)"
Man you are just amazing! As a resident of Canada now I can promise you that the snow effects are incredibly realistic, I live overlookinjg a lake that does just what the one you modeled does!
Very impressive anyway, where do you store all these masterpieces though?
Hey folks thanks for the positives , glad you like I made a few learning mistakes in the process that might be avoided for others doing similar stuff .. the snow yellowed in parts , especially over the painted liquid nails.. it may just need more layers of snow waiting until after each layer has dried to apply the new , or it might just be the fact i painted the liquid nails white with a cheap matte emulsion .. not sure .. the snow over the resin didn't yellow at all so maybe its not the snow effect.
Anyhow I took some wips whilst working .. and I thought I would put em up here for posterity.
you might notice , that the board went few quite a few drastic changes in its process including removing all of the early snow effect from the hab units, which was a bit of a hassle actually , but it did giove me the confidence to try out more snow techniques, including clear caulk , which works really well as ice .. but stinks to high heaven.. really not an option for a board this size . even though its really cheap ..
I put up most of my ice inspiration in my gimme bar on Opus maius for those whom it might be useful to.
@ Llamahead thanks man , the icicles all disappeared really which is a shame the caulk made great icicles as did plastic cut from the blister packs
@ lone dirty dog
@ cormadepanda I thought he was just having a seizure of some sort
@ ghosty qoute" Now I know I'm not the only one who was thinking 'the Thing' " Guilty as charged yep the thing and its not so bad prequal , as well as the the games and dead space 3 .. amongst other things
@ madmartykmf thanks Mike , I dont think I have ever received an A + on anything .. hope your well mate
@ Commander Cain Hey CC your too kind , qoute " I live overlooking a lake that does just what the one you modelled does!"
really that's great to know , i was a bit in the dark with the ice lake , I originally wanted a stormy ice sea with ice bergs , like in this killzone map
Spoiler:
but this seemed easier to stow and transport ..and i would have had to raise the whole board to give the sea some depth , not really an option for a board you have to transport on a train and taxi.
It's really just excellent, highlight of my day was having a game on this board. I like that you have put some WIP images up because they way it just appeared out of no-where was quite alarming.
Maybe you could add some sort of cross braces to the bottom of the board to reinforce it a bit.
Oh and for your next project I propose a gateway board that connects this arctic research lab to the Ygg somehow, some sort of warp rupture board pieces with snow blowing in through a rip in space and time. Or maybe a wardrobe on the Ygg that if you walk through it you end up here.
was another great day for 40k narrative hobbying with quite a few folks from around the globe sending minis to molotov http://inq28.blogspot.co.uk/ to participate.
although I took the opportunity to chill out and take photos more than anything else.
How does your narrative hobbying work exactly? Is it a game of Inquisimunda with some artistic flair explaining what happened? Or more of a storyline prewritten and using the figures as a sort of graphic novel? There are a few guys here that are starting up a Necro/Inquisimunda game and/or campaign, and I've been super inspired by your work on both characters and terrain . Any tips would be much appreciated!
Aye up folks , its been a while .. I think the gully sucker sucked away all my free time
@ CC love the snow effect in that game.. cheers buddy
@Bruticus heya Matey , good idea about strengthening the board , if i get it back i might just do that .. then again i do bore most easily of projects that are completed. an interconnecting ygg board would be great , but my next project is already planned .. Cryptic besides a 40k wardrobe is much easier haha.
@ Rawson , hey Rawsone sorry for the late reply mate .. my gaming circle principally has two directions .. inq28 gaming in the past has been at warhammer world , organised by , commissar Molotov , and Gmed by folks who know what they are doing in inquisitor .. I tried to learn the rules but i just dont seem to have the patience for it This means that inq28 gaming is literally just inquisitor just scaled down. its a quite complicated game that benefits a gm who sets the narrative for the two players .. more on that at the conclave and ammobunker or on Mols blog Inq28. I have been lucky in that i have been able to turn up and play , whilst other folk have done the complicated rules bits the inquisitro rule book is on the the gw website as a pdf i think.
the other string to my gaming bow is on the yyg campaign that is gmed by PDH and Fulgrim of the tears of Isstvaan .. although rise of the magi seems to know what he is doing in any given situation as well the rules for this are a bit more relaxed than inquisitor , and often our gaming sessions get made up on the fly , but the backbone of it is the necromunda community edition rules .. which PDH knows off by heart ... thankfully ..
the link between both systems is narrative as you point out .. and by that i mean .. the story , setting etc.. motives for gaming .. ganging..are equally important as the rules systems,, and for that matter the terrain and the models themselves .. its never just about winning for me its about experiences really.
its probably important to note that we often game at warhammer world , as its communal to most folks, it takes time and effort and money to get there normally for most folks, so the investment in our models or terrain is important , and I guess because we have often blogged the games it helps that the models or scenery are photogenic
i am sure other folks I game with have their own reasons .. but we all share a passion to ..illuminate the nether regions of 40k ..
that been said I like a solid strategy game as much as the next.. and i have an anchoring to play battle fleet gothic something rotten. although i still tempted to recreate space crusade / advanced space crusade with modern minis
hope that helps mate.
speaking of narrative gaming ... I am currently making a gang for a game of Confrontation -- (not rackhams ) the proto necromunda game .. I have been through the mill deciding what gang to use .. i started off with mutants then , ash waste nomads .. now i think i am settled on Techs ..
I have to say .. Confrontation is and has always been , my favourite aspect of 40k .. so to finally get to game with other folks who share this passion-- after 20 odd years is just incredible .. i have bot blogged on opus for a while and its currently dormant , but i will endeavour to reopen it to blog this upcoming event.
i thought i would share a few pics i took earlier .. the models are now cleaned and prepared and are awaiting paint .
Ahh, Confrontation - that brings back good memories. I still have a few minis left that GW released back when the rules appeared in WD - many moons ago now...
Oh and BTW, just been drooling over your Ice Station board - amazing work mate, truly amazing
Aye up folks .. I manged to finish the paintwork on the Palatine Mechanicus TEK gang. not so happy with the good luck caryatid though .. I painted swirls tattoos all over him but it looked a bit much so i repainted him and its gone a bit meh never mind , happy enough with the ganger's though .. and I am especially proud of the bases where i tried to combine the Gothic elements of Necromunda with the industrial sci fi elemants of confrontation this painting lark is becoming fun
@Moltar cheers mate , and right back at you as well
@Weets hey weety , your too kind as for confrontation yeah bring it back .. well maybe not.. just do another skirmish game for adults set in 40k with its own custom plastics range of minis and industrial Gothic scenery and i would be more than happy
we will no doubt end up using necro rules tbh as there will be a fair few of us ..
@ PDH not long now ... yeah sorry about the nomads .. i just didn't think i would have the time to start green greenstuffing tbh .. i will get back to them in due course no doubt.
@Ruglud ooh what minis do you have ? i have been putting together a file on all the minis that were made released and unreleased for it .. some great brats never saw the light of day according to stuff of legends ..
@ Chelnov .. hey bud.. No terarrain this time im afraid .. we game on saturday so not enough time unfortunately.. although we have some cool tables prebooked so , that shouldn't be a problem .. i wouldn't mind making a dio base for them tbh , but i have plans afoot for more scenery so I doubt that will happen any time soon if at all.
neil101 wrote: @Ruglud ooh what minis do you have ? i have been putting together a file on all the minis that were made released and unreleased for it .. some great brats never saw the light of day according to stuff of legends ..
I've got this dude (still with his late 80's paintjob and base ) ...
The snow table is just …well …err …… you know …….BLODDY AMAZING !!!!!
So many techniques and effects achieved, you really should do a break down of each effect and the technique used to achieve it with a resource index, I know I ask a lot
Love the new gang look, really quite ingenious to use that combination gives them a more stream line figure.
Really is reminiscence of the art work, I think you have a tough time ahead though of matching the art style when it comes to the paint work.
You always amaze me with each update and your terrain is some of the best I have seen, it is always a pleasure to see
Neil buddy I take it you need a break from computers after the massive hard work you did on telling the story. Your blog post http://opusmaius.blogspot.co.uk/ is truly awesome/epic and I am so glad you were there to photograph and then do the hard work of putting it all together. I owe you a few rums.
Can I just say you guys are mental those gangs are amazing and love the fact that oop models have been used.
You really have captured the essence of the good old days, I even felt like I was looking at the art work in WD as a kid so many good memory's came rushing back.
Thanks for sharing and Neil that's some pictures you took, I amazed you even got to game.
That ice station board is amazing, the attention to detail's my favorite bit, even before you added the ice and snow,
but with them you really get the abandoned ice station feel to this place, brilliant work.
@ CC Cheers buddy , well in age terms i could be classified a classic so that's kinda appropriate
@ Rawson .. No probs mate look forward to seeing pics from gaming group in the future.
@ Ruglud love that guy , the james belushi of 40k bounty hunters could have done with some hired guns taking potshots at the underhive scum in the game we played
@Camkierhi Thanks matey.. my fave shot of them is this one of them coming face to face with PDH's scavvie ambush from Kari Hernesniemi's photos of the game we played..
Spoiler:
hope he doesn't mind me sharing that
@Migsula .. thanks mate loving your gaming table too .. it was fun researching Antarctic pictures for the build https://gimmebar.com/loves/neil101
@LDD too kind as always mate .. thanks ..i would love to break down the processes properly , i did try and explain it earlier , but it takes so long to build these things i am far too tired to document them in the light they deserve when i am finished i just want to play video games watch films and read books then of course the next idea comes along and the previous ones are but history
@hk1x1 Thanks mate.. the bleak back board in some of the pics really helps capture that remote feeling i think.
@ Moltar My pleasure buddy .. such a privilege to share the game with folks its worth effort .
@LDD qoute " Thanks for sharing and Neil that's some pictures you took, I amazed you even got to game." Your welcome buddy , like i said above the pleasure is mine .. i have waited twenty years to find my gaming group , now i have i want to make the best of it . of course without the others it would just be pics of my gang so credit to all involved..
@ PDH Cheers mate, yeah i needed a break and to refocus a bit .. i will take them rums in November glad you liked it too. its probably.y a bit wordier than necessary
So as PDH mentioned i blogged the Necromund / Confromunda game a few weeks back , its on opus for those that are interested
Soo .. i needed a bit of break form the hobby .. which was granted via GTAV but i am back in the saddle again now.. For the past few weeks i have been kit bashing models and experimenting a bit .. no paint work since the teks
I thought i would share the wips of the models i have been knocking around.. just ideas really for fun some are for yggdrassillium campaign and the ash waste gangers were for the necromunda game .. but mostly for fun..
I also have a few more pics to upload of the stuff i am currently working on..
wow, I love your kit bashing, its very unique. The cyber samurai gangers, especially the fella with the wii, are fantastic, i've not seen that concept by anyone else before. Great stuff!
You never cease to amaze me mate truly, you take the strangest of things combined them and somehow it works
I love the shields for the hats that such a cool idea and works, they do have that real sense of nomads wandering the barren lands I cant wait to see them finished.
Those ash wasters remind me a little of Desert Punk, with those hats.
Spoiler:
I've been dying to use those FW renegade militia for an ash waste style gang, although way back when I had plans for a super gothic delaque gang using them too. I just love the sculpts, and one day I hope I'll actually get around to making a gang using those bits. They work wonderfully with the DV cultist legs.
The Confrontation game you guys did looked absolutely fantastic, by the way. I had to have poured over the photos on your blog a dozen times since you posted them!
These latest conversions are amazing, what body did you use for the ganger with two swords? I don't recognize it at all and can't find it on GW's site either.
PDH wrote: Nice to see the Ygg and Ice Station boards in Blanchitsu matey!
Agreed, I noticed that they actually mentioned the use of the boards for 40k skirmish games in the article. I still think that GW has a game up their sleeve for us, hopefully inspired by your work and everyone else that keeps INQ28 alive.
Just finished a new Inquisitor Vendrake retinue build and thought i would share my wips with folk.. the group is ready for paint now and i am thinking a more Gothic unified darker tone than my previous retinue.
The group will be used for an upcoming Skirmish game using the Necromunda rule set ( -][-Munda ) as opposed to INQ28 - this slight ruleset change will allow for a more martial Inquisitor Vendrake than his previous inq28 investigative role. This also ties in quite well to his new unforgiving warmongering role after very nearly kicking the bucket in his last outing.
@nathanie1 Cheers .. i do like cyber things .. i blame monkeytroll fro that though..( whats that monkey .. no! you cant use the internet.. get back down in the galley )
@lone dirty dog Thanks mate , i never really considered painting these after i made the teks , but the nomads would probably be fun to paint actually ..
@OneManNoodles yeah i have been playing zeno clash actually but thats not where i got the idea from though.. i actually stole it from mad max 3 , their is a water seller merchant guy wearing one in the opening scenes..
@ Baiyuan
@Camkierhi Cheers
@Llamahead the image is from the original confrontation rules .. a psyker clan called the immortals i think
@weetyskemian44 yeah the undead rotten shields are cool. i think the look like raiden form mortal combat
@GiraffeX yeah its common trope i have seen it used in a fair few postapoc style films .. but specifically mad max 3
@Camkierh " Warroirs Way" not seen that one
@Starfarer that is spooky mate .. i am going to have to google that now
@Moltar thanks buddy
@Commander Cain .. yeah me too its still WIP but i am looking forward to painting it up .. its a gift for a friend
@ephrael cheers bud pm sent but for everyone else its the deldar beastmaster
@livanbard Wow very flattered mate .. i do like having this blog as a repository for all the stuff over the past three years.. I have been in a bit of a hobby slump the past week but getting back to normal now..
@PDH qoute " Nice to see the Ygg and Ice Station boards in Blanchitsu matey! " Now that i should sig cheers buddy.
@ephrael "
Agreed, I noticed that they actually mentioned the use of the boards for 40k skirmish games in the article. I still think that GW has a game up their sleeve for us, hopefully inspired by your work and everyone else that keeps INQ28 alive."
i think it might be a bit of urban myth now that that Iquisitor Codex has come out but i will be keeping my fingers crossed a little longer.. on a personal note i am happy to see the new crackle paints
@nathanie1 " Congratulations on the white dwarf article Neil!" Thanks mate .. I still cant believe it tbh such a privilege
Previous version of Inquisitor Vendrake and Acolytes
it is really good to see your work here again more frequently...
your thread currently could be summed up with: take the most expensive models, convert the hell out of them and make them look like the best scifi and fantasy movie directors should be taking notes for their next works...
the recent update of yours reminded my somehow of a strange mortal combat vibe...
whereas the new updates theme is indeed way darker and more grim...that horse especially...
which also leads me to the statement that you have quite upped the game with your GS skills...
the only mini i am currently a bit cofused about is the one with the big barrel instead of an arm... i think it is not finished yet?
also...what i have for sooo long unconsciously missed (my own fault...) is your very exquisitve way of making groupshots... dramatic and old school scifi shots ... the angles of the pics raise the importance of the characters as the models befits...
No...that's it...I'm not staying down here any longer neil...I'm getting on the net no matter what you say !!
Now I know why you stole all the flour and sugar from the cupboard Beautiful work on Thule Station mate, very atmospheric as to be expected from one of your boards
Loving those cyber-shogun gangers, absolutey fantastic builds.
And the latest buch are nice and gothic, especially like the Inquisitional holding post, lovely stuff.
Right...let's see what mischief I can get up to before 'master' throws me back in the galley.......
Great stuff again. I did like the v2 of Vendrake as well though, was it not a big enough change? I can't help but notice that the Termivendrake is no longer using a walking stick, maybe that was all a bluff to appear more frail than he really is! Inquisitors are so tricksy.
The death cult assassin looks much better as a sign post. Not completely sold on the head but only because I can't make it out. A bowed head would look very cool though.
Zombie horse looks interesting, maybe the neck is a bit short.
OMFG - The Bromholme terrain is looking OTT. You have captured the art work perfectly. Looking forward to seeing it at the beginning of next month. I'll try not to get a hangover but I guess that depends on how much of a bad influence Vader is.
The Arco conversion and mercenary captain are fantastic. The priests mitre is such a clever conversion.
Well its been an age since i last updated , i have worked on a few bits and pieces in the meantime but not too much really. i did paint some nice scenery for a friend , though which i will show in the next few weeks, buggered up the paintwork on a few of the last inquisy models and it left me a bit meh tbh i picked up the knight titan and the taurox like every body eles and i am just waiting for the release of the forgeowrd solar auxillia so i can make my perfect non conversion ed imperial guard .
@Vic "it is really good to see your work here again more frequently... " well that didn't last long did it, thanks for the kind words mate, gun arm servitor was finished , i just mucked up the painting though
@monkey cheers buddy , looks like you have been up to plenty of mischief as per usual .
@Moltar cheers bud
@Llamahead , shame i buggered up the paintwork .
@Bruticus, cheers mate , the head is a chaos ig guy from forgeworld with a small airfilter added to the front., i like the zombiehorse too. very much inspired by Beksinski.
@Camkierhi cheers
@PDH Thanks pal , i was very happy with that priest
I started work on some floating ad mek ig40k mines i designed ages ago, which i am looking forward to painting.
Those mines are pretty cool, especially the boss-mine
Nice idea with the thallax too, bet it was fun scraping out the helm
What's that he's standing on.....and who's that beside him? Come to that, is that a sniper or a standard in th background? Inquiring minds want to know
I am so often contemplating to get me some thalax....something about these models speaks to me....
and it is good to see you again...i´ll skip the rest as RL is like the waves on the sea...it swings us lil nutshells anyway the sea likes^^...
also... the minesweeper idea is very interesting... but I gather it is a pure aesthetical approach...or is there any gameplay use to them? if not, I am not complaining... I am the first to appreciate stuff that looks good an is of no use than mere ogling at
@Weirding way , cheers mate i made them a while back , but RoC has since distracted me from finishing them, i really like the heavy ww2 vibe they give , and i had plenty of those city of death light hanging around to use up. , really enjoying your blog too
@Nerdfest09 Thanks, i wanted a scary robot vibe from the film saturn 3 , so i could potentiallymake a small skirmish game where lightly armed scribes have to avoid it and destroy it a bit like the upcoming alien isolation game i imagine.
@Monkey boss mines , who'd of thought mines would be sentient in only 20 thousand years .. qoute "Nice idea with the thallax too, bet it was fun scraping out the helm " about as much fun as scraping barnacles of a fishermans jumper
The picture he is standing on is from book two of the horus heresy , massacre , on the page next to this pic
Spoiler:
the mini in the background left on bottom pic is a necron warrior, on the top pic its a space crusade Chaos android although a thallax standard would be kinda cool
Spoiler:
and standing next to him is this guy
Spoiler:
hope that satiates your inquiring mind for now
@Vik , Good to see ya buddy, yeah i like the thallax , but it was seeing them in real life that sealed the deal for me , they work really well as 3d minis i think . the Mine sweeper barge is an old idea that got incorporated in yggdrassiliume board as the pandoricalle home , i still think it got potential especially seeing how the new admech transports seem to have a sloping front end. just for aesthetics really but , i am keen to make a 40kig army based around the new solar guys , when released , so it may end up becoming incorporated somehow .
@Medium of death Cheers buddy , yeah its been around a while now.
@Camkierhi , yeah , i like the blank heads too, but i thought it was important to make the statement that these are not robots , just servitors , as i am considering making a really early pre imperial robot army , like from the idea of the men of iron and men of stone . although i was thinking of somewhere in between a ceramic age perhaps ?
Wow. How to make the FW mechanicus models look even cooler than they already did! And the mines... Sigh. So many ideas to ste... *ahem*... draw non direct inspiration from,, so little time! Subbed
by the way... the head swap for the thallanx is a very good decision... the blank ones with the plate just look not that 40k enough... they have a certain DE look to them which you know brought back to the IoM
I especially like the thallax. Thats the one thing I felt was missing from the original models, human flesh/skulls. Thats what makes the mechanicus as creepy as it is.
Thanks for commenting on the blog and the thread. Your terrain, and the style of painting and modelling which you have developed is incredibly inspiring for me… keep it up.
So i have been a bit busy converting a Taurox recently , still waiting on a few bits from bits and kits to finish it , so until they arrive i thought i would share the commission piece i did fro a friend a few months back .
requirements were for crackle effects and a built in servitor. , i was pretty chuffed with this piece as it used quite a few different techniques , salt weathering for the concrete effect and crackle paints for the crumbling plasterwork. I think the columns could have done with more work , maybe numerals or plug sockests added , but the client didnt want fiddly things that could be broken off too easily .
@ Phutarf
@ Vik , yeah i know what you mean about the sci fi syd mead look. doesn't work really with how i envisage mechanicus either, but i still like the models and the design , but then again i like the sci fi design work of syd mead too .
@ PDH , would be cool to see official skull head/mask options for the thallax .
@Grag Cheers grag , i do like the thallax as they are how i imagine the sentient robots of imeperium may have looked pre the strife era. but yes the designer has taken a bit too much inspiration from current video games design , like mass effect , halo , haze etc for my liking.. which itself pays homage to Syd Meads sci fi designs from the seventies daft punk etc.., for it to sit well enough in the current warhammer aesthetic , although , it is 30k and lots can change in 10,000 years - a caveat to that would be the new floating magos thing which looks entirely 40k gothic, i think the design aesthetic for the forgeworld mechanicum is a little muddied really , so much going on , with no concise style really, the steampunk tanks then we have 70s syd mead sci fi , and 20's futurism deco along with a slap of 40k gothic i suppose you could argue the absence of a strong single style as is still an eclectic style and with the mechanicum collecting tech from all eras , that makes some kinda sense.
@Jimmy grill. Cheers , yes the spore mines were in the forefront of my mind.
I looked at the last 10 pages on your topic, I really like your minis. In my opinion it looks like how i consider Warhammer 40.000, it reminds me a lot John Blanche / Inquisitor and 40krpg.
@Graffenberg - Ah , i suppose its no coincidence there is a Blachian vibe. I have been an admirer of his work for thirty years.. I dont really consider myself trying to emulate his style though , its just absorbed into my visual language over many many years. similarly with jes goodwins drawing style and his design philosophy to a certain degree. glad the 40krpg vibe is coming through , i try to set many of my 40k models within a filmic story setting , not dissimilar to 40krpg or inquisitor.
@ Moltar Cheers mate.
@Camkierhi , thanks , cvrackle is tim holtze crackle paint , added liberally , then multiple coats of light glaze of many different colors , but most citadel inks.
@Ruglud- Cheers Ruglud, Foir some reason i was very much inspired by ww2 dioromas for this piece i think the realism is what i was after , although in retrospect i think i could have gone a bit more over the top 40k it became a lesson in subtly not often a word suitable for 40k.
@Rogue Wolves- I would like to do a tutorial on this so i can learn what i did myself cheers
So I made a colossal Pitslave gladiator and a hive city guild master or some such , although i played himn in a game recently and he was a 40k road sweeper also made a small evil edna style servo screen. i have painted them roughly since i did these , but need some time to finish details i think and re shoot them in good light.
I've wondered why you don't see more WHFB giants (or the beastmen equivelant whatever it's called) converted to 40k — always thought they could make good Xeno mercenaries or something, but the pitslave idea is genius. The Knight helmet is so perfect with the bestial body.
And the hive guilder/mine sweeper is very cool and creepy.
I assume the servo screen is made from an internal piece from the Knight kit? Very clever.
Looking forward to see if any other Knight pieces show up in further unexpected places. I've been thinking the beetle-back shell could make a nice hull for an archaic imperial tank or hovercraft ...
As per your usual standard, Neil, those are some supremely grimdark conversions. That giant pit slave is wonderful, especially seeing how the base model always seemed slightly hokey to me. Using the Imperial Knight head was a brilliant stroke -- you actually managed to almost perfectly create a bigger version of a certain Chaos Marauder head -- was that intentional or a coincidence? The guild master/street sweeper is also very cool, as are the servo thingamajigs. Fantastic work! Seeing the appearance of Lord of Skulls and Knight bitz has also made me realise once more that you always take a "no holds barred" approach for your conversions, which is admirable -- if a little scary
I assume the servo screen is made from an internal piece from the Knight kit? Very clever.
Actually, there are no "internal" pieces in the Knight kit -- whatever cockpits or engine compartments you might see online -- all of that is kitbashed and/or scratchbuilt.
Which does of course beg the question: Where did that screen come from, Neil?
The giant pitslave is great, a real shadow of death type. I've always had a soft spot for pitslaves and it irks me that you now have the biggest, meanest one around. I need to add more to my ludus.
The street sweeper looks mostly great, but I can't help thinking that the bulldozer blade makes it look somewhat Futurama-y. I just wonder what it uses it for? A hover bulldozer seems somewhat impractical, although they would be useful for getting rid of the damn seagulls on my roof.
The floating computer is interesting too, I expect the screen to show an 8bit frowny face, or a GERTY (from Moon) face.
I think me and you might be the only people that buy liquid greenstuff.
A street sweeper, perfect for clearing those blasted corpses off the road. Any chance we could get some close ups of his face? . I reckon the screen is from the Hydra/Wyvern kit for the IG.
Wow, reading back through the last few pages of what I've missed while I was away was a truly enjoyable experience!
Your work is always so powerfully imaginative and inspirational - I am constantly stunned by your ingenious use of kits and bits to create something entirely new. The ash waste slaver with the whip, the new version of Vandex and his retinue, the giant servitor/knight hybrid (beastman giant base?) - all superb!
@ weirding way Cheers mate , yeah I am surprised i haven't seen more big fantasy stuff converted to 40k , bruticus did show me one of Turskas fantasy/40k giants a while back that is stunning ! The pitslave collossii was kinda inspired by this
so i thought i would take it in a new direction with the use of that brilliant knight helm. Funny you should mention that beetle backed titan carapace though , i did mock up a taurox with one recently , but decided i to go in a different direction in the end. a hovver version would be interesting .
@Monkey Thanks mate . I thought you would appreciate the Evil TV !
@KrautScientist. Hey mate, no intention to copy any marauder heads , but i find it comforting and no little surprise that a man with such an encyclopaedic bits knowledge as you found its doppelgänger . I hadn't originality intended to convert the knight but by coincidence there was a sale on the knight stuff at bits and kits and so I was able to recover the bits i used for around twenty quid which isn't bad at at all , and made the decision that much easier.
@Bruticus , thanks man , at one point i envisaged the kollosuss as the xeno species that brought up montarion , so shadow of death is appropriate , he very nearly got a giant sythe.
The bulldozer blade was a last miniute addon , that worked aesthetically rather than for any background reasons, I was actually trying to avoid giving them names or job titles etc whatsoever as this sometimes narrows the mind as to what is possible in 40k i find . The fact i have no idea what the bulldozer blade is for makes the model seem more intriguing to me , but I suppose pushing through the vast swathes of hivers could be useful in some situations originally he was going to be a Moroccan style water seller / liquid spook , and i saw the blade as being useful to keep the under hive at a safe distance when dispensing his wares ;-)
gerty is brilliant ! also the the machines from fallout Vegas have had an influence too.
@gianlucafiorentini123 thanks
@Grag , well he did come in handy moving the odd rhino out of line of sights ! more pics on the way i want to blog the game we played asap..cheers
@CMDante , oh thanks mate , the blog has been a little quiet recently but i have a few scenery projects planned for the new year . the giant is from the cygor kit btw
@ Logan , Brutalism is my fave architectural style too
@ Tcraigen "For some reason I want to do a giant like that with a harpoon cannon... " Like a giant sump hive scaley ! - maybe with the new lizard stuff ?
@CC hey buddy , thanks as always . it would be cool to see a few of these fighting tooth and claw in bruticus's arena .
So I thought I would pop up a few more pics of these guys , I dont have many non blurry ones but I have a few painted ones too .. they were painted very quickly just in one day for gaming so no golden demons here , but I still like the feel of them.
They look fantastic painted, quick paintjob or not.
What is the base model of the guildmaster's fleshy parts? Some LOTR troll or something? I'm a big fan of his floppy hat / biomechanical trendril combination.
I love the Kollosus' weird high shoulders, almost like the big fleshy shoulder hump a buffalo has.
Great job for a quick paint job...they look fantastic. Like the skin tone on the guilder, and love the screen on the servitor. Nice to see more detail shots of the guilder too, various bits filed away for reference
@ weirding way Cheers mate, yep lotr troll king is the base part . The buffalo shouklders are exactly that , I have done little to them but add spikes and skulls ., they look a little weird , but that is no bad thing.
@Moltar
@Camkierhi , cheers
@Monkey the skin tone looks a little shiny in these images but it came out more matte in reality , there are better images of it on migs's blog and Jeff Vaders
So Like PDH I have been busy trying to convert a Gal vorbak courtesy of PDH really great models imo and perfect for art scaling marines
i decided to try and give the marine an ambiguous background not chaos or good , somewhere in the middle. Not sure if i need more purity seals or skulls though.. i did try giving him a helmet but i wanted a mk 5 one and i dont have one yet so i might rip that head off eventually and replace it.
And (I'm chiming in late here) your Pitslave Collossi (sp?) are fantastic. You really capture that Blanche freakiness. Very gothic, very 40k, very very cool
I love the two small base idea for the giant, makes the whole model pop a bit more. the giant bases always seem to just end up taking up to much space on larger creatures. Did you have to do much fiddling with weighting and balancing it?
@Tinfoil Cheers he has had a bit of makeover since then.. http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7568052/6/ @Cheers monkey i agree lovely models..
@tcraigen cheers mate , yes i had to add greenstuff under the bases for weight...
@CamKierhi @Tameyeti thanks Tameyeti i learned from baiyuan about the importance of detail
Its been a while since i last updated .. I have been working on a few bits ... some feudal bretonnian mousillon stuff with a slight heroquest vibe. but not much else really , i did get some paint on an old school metal vostroyan guardsman conversion .. I painted him mostly with oils , burnt umber.. and i reworked Inquisitor Vendrake again slightly and added a few more gothic henchmen..
Slightly off topic but I finally managed to get some play time with the excellent Alien Isolation game by Creative Assembly ( albeit on ps3 ) Now some long time dakkanaughts may well remember that i made a prototype Alien board game set aboard the nostromo over four years ago.. based partly on carpenter blue prints of the nostromo film set , and partly on the excellent blue prints drawn by darrell Curtis on the now defunct ( but in the process of coming back nostromo files
Well it came as a pleasant surprise to realise that the DLC for the game ( crew expendable ) is very similar to the idea i had for the board game.. basically try and flush the alien out of the airlock now i never actually finished the board game , but i had wondered if it would make a good video game in the intervening years.. well i guess i need not have worried the the concept plays very well as a video game if not very hard... I know its most likely coincidental but .. I cant help loving the idea that the same premise for my board game actually got turned into an actual game..
@Camkierhi .. hey mate .. idle hands and all that jazz..
@GiraffeX cheers X - not my best paint work but it was fun none the less..
@monkeytroll cheers buddy i buggered up painting the horse and had to strip it .. i swear my painting is getting worse and not better with time
@Weets yes really feeling the gothic at present..
speaking of gothic i did paint up a life size skull as a teaser for a summer game ..that was going cheap .. lots of fun had .. chaos balck undercoat skull white overcoat -- airbrushed brown inks and mig weathering powders. a bit of freehand in pencil overworked with brushed ink..
Love the henchman it's like Rob Zombie meets Mordian great stuff especially what looks like an evil jester but my favourite is the Vostroyan conversion how on earth you came up with that and thought it would work but it so does.
I actually thought it was a test miniature or something, now I just want to say if you ever want rid of it I want first dibs it ROCKS !!!!
Cheers LDD Glad you like it mate.. i would be happy to knock up a model for you if you want .. i made the Vostroyan for Fulgrim at the tears of isstvan blog http://isstvan.blogspot.co.uk/ so i cant pass that on unfortunately but if you have any requests feel feel to drop me a message and i am sure we could work something out mate.. I just made a model for kraut scientist but i have failed in my job of actually posting it to him yet..
I am currently;y working on some scenery again which is proving most fun ..rubber molds and plaster of paris fun times.. but i dont have any pics to show as yet.. although if its minis your after there are a couple of nice ones over at Opus maius at present...
That is a very kind offer I thought the Vostroyan was a really clever conversion.
I like that older style to it less embellished as if this could almost be his regular way of dress, I saw him as a pathfinder/recon type character less armoured and a quite attack weapon.
Thanks for the links some really nice conversions there indeed, also looking forward to the scenery update you amaze me with your work in this area especially.
Heh – just spotted that old pre-slotta ogre you used for hte Vostroyan conversion. I think I had a few of those from one of the old slot-regiment packs. Glory days!
As usual, sublime work throughout. The silhouettes of your models are so distinctive; really gives them a perfectly 40k vibe.
Do you mind if I ask how you did the cracked plaster effect on the scenery a couple of pages back? Craquelure medium or something more esoteric?
@LDD Hey mate.. I really didnt think i could get away with that head on the Ogryn.. but I was happily surprised at how well it worked.. tracker type in regular clothes is a good point.. I saw him as an outdoors man too .. maybe a woodsmen..
@Apologist Hey Apologist .. big fan of your work .. yes that Ogryn is rather old school .. but then so am I Very kind compliment .. btw .. i think Jes gooswin is to blame for my silhouette fixation.. Back in the day his models stood out head and shoulders above other citadel miniatures because of the same thing.. still do actually.. just more 3d these days..
the cracked plaster work is Tim holtz crackle paint .. lots of ink washes over the top that added a glaze and blew the cracks wide open ....cheers
Still no pics of the scnery but as i dont like to update the blog without pics.. i thought i would share a taurox conversion i started a while back.. based on a Russian cold war trencher vehicle..
He does it again that is an interesting take on the Taurox, everyone else is adding wheels and you add tracks great idea and nicely executed looking forward to seeing this develop
neil101 wrote: i thought i would share a taurox conversion i started a while back.. based on a Russian cold war trencher vehicle..
lone dirty dog wrote:He does it again that is an interesting take on the Taurox, everyone else is adding wheels and you add tracks great idea and nicely executed looking forward to seeing this develop
I'm with LDD, I would never have thought of that, and it looks fantastic! What's going in the back?
Cheers Mr X - ps3 paints i recall . underbelly blue blase watred down p3 merridian blue shade and p3 frostbite highlight.
Thanks Weirding ! i really wanted to capture the idea of vacuum tube / lightbulb - i was so pleased when i found a suntan lotion bottle top that fit the base.. ;-)
the top comes off btw.. the webbed skaven fits inside..
That is Fuc%#¥g awesome mate and epic idea, looks so fitting as well like a desert rambling block mixed with the dull dirty metal colour scheme top job
When it comes to creativity you are a god amongst men ........
Wow, unreal thread. Some amazing concepts put down in plastic hear. Really amazing stuff, and looking out for te next instalment of the clockwork cookie.
@ll haha ha yes i guess that would help ! Sorry LL , i get shy its back up now though !
@ SToned atsretes thank you , i haven't been great at updating all my stuff to this thread over the past few years as i tend to put stuff on my blog http://opusmaius.blogspot.co.uk/
as that is easier . but since i haven't update din a while i thought i would drop this here :
small update , i am in the midst of working on a large narrative based scenery and model project , based on the life of one man lived within 40k.. currently on the 5th of 8 ages .. all the work is currently on my blog http://opusmaius.blogspot.co.uk/ but i enjoyed making this model as a teaser for the 6th age , and thought it would sit nice hear since the original inspiration came from a model i made for the gothic tower years ago somewhere on this blog..
Last night I had the strangest dream I ever dreamt before, I dreamt I was a palid horse, leading menne to war. I galloped o'er plains of bones, they called me fourth of four. a fevered swivven burned me up, one eye ablaze in fear. A revelation, what may be, the end of times is near. My rigarider reaps his sythe and all the dead menne died. whence an Angel came an blew its horn, and raise'd the menne on high. The saviour spoke in honeyed tones a voice within a voice, repent thy sins before to late, if rapture be thy choice.
By the gods man your insane. That gloriously fantastic. Did look the other day and meant to comment on the wip's, but now have to comment on that. The wip shots of various figures the other day were very inspirational and really great work.
Not been doing much hobby related work for a while .. i realised its been seven years since i fist posted on dakka trying to get some motivation going so i thought i would pop up a photo of a new project .. a necromunda gang of outcasts starting with a beastman to coincide with forgeworlds release of gor one horn..
oh and i just updated the sister of battle diroama post
and i also have a new blog for those that like the occasional narrative sprawl.. cant guarantee it will be open permanently though.. https://distopus.blogspot.co.uk/
Gave meatshield ( a beastly underhive rogue with a taste for human flesh )
aye up Mate , yeah my hobby has been at a low ebb for ages now , thought sharing my workbench stuff might help .. i tried insta and facebook but neither are for me , and as i get social anxiety when i have the blog open for more than ten mins , i thought going back to my hobby roots might help..
Never thought about tengu.. but yeah good spot.. love Japanese mythology.. so scary... big red did come to mind.. but i was trying for the classic devil look.. highlighting red is a pain .. but it has more than the camera shows
anyhow I had you in mind when creating the scenery for these dudes your Russian constructivist style hive, and JB's angled necro art where both at the forefront of my mind when trying settle on a theme or style..
Fulgrim showed me your fantastic technodudes.. really impressive as usual
Wow, every time I think I've seen the best the internet has to offer for 40K I find something even more awesome! I'm going to read this whole thread over the holidays. Looks amazing!
I do miss the days when all the activity was focused on blogs and forums but it's hard to fight the pull of Facebook and Instagram.
Glad you like the techs! I'll try to post them here soon ... just have to sort a new image hosting system.
That newest update is just phenomenal. As you might expect I absolutely love the angled terrain — so incredibly evocative. Necromunda tables rarely manage to suggest that they exist beneath miles of city, instead looking like catwalks or spires at the top of an urban/industrial assemblage. The texture and solidity of those big industrial slabs really sell the illusion (more than my scrap-assemblages) and manages to suggest the immense weight of the Hive above. The Sector Mechanicus support struts look so great canted at those angles. And the chains stretched at all angles is right out of the original JB art (also gives everything a sort of nautical vibe that fits with your harpooner).
And I'm a big fan of the new Abhumans. The Ogryn is a wonderful bizzaro version of a Spyrer, and it's great to see Spider imagery given it's proper place in Necromunda.
Yeah lovely work I've often found it quite difficult to get beastmen to look like they actually fit as a part of the 40k universe as opposed to them looking like they're a direct port from Fantasy (same with lizardmen), but you've done a great job here
I'm also interested by the draw of Facebook and Instagram. Haven't tried Facebook yet, but I can't quite see the appeal of Instagram. Just seemed...hollow to me. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right place...
@Camkierhi cheers mate , would love to expand the setting of this area, buy a reel of jewelry shain and really go to town making chain webs and such.
@kestral Thank you , I haven't been updating this blog nearly enough the past five years , but i hope to rectify that, I hope you like what you see. I have a better backlog of my hobby stuff on my blog , its missing the entire 2016 because i deleted the blog and forgot to back that year up but i will get around to re uploading that content at somepoint
@weirdingway I use blogger as my image host , you can create a blog and not publish posts , just upload them and link to them really easy , i would be upset if blogger went down like photobucket did though I loved your original techs but your new ones upped the ante ! yeah the ogryn does have a spyrer vibe doesn't he , unintentional thogh , he also looks a bit like a eldar warp spider.. allbeit a chunky one and yeah nice to see spider iconography back in munda !
@Ynneadwraith thanks! insta was really easy almost to easy to post and follow other, it got a bit distracting for me , as i am like a puppy .. ooh shiny ! facebook seemed a better balance but its facebook ! they have a great inq28 scene though.. I like the fact that beastmen might have been genetically modified to be that way during the dark age of technology ..
@ LL cheers buddy !
So i just completed a quick build of a scale model hive .. scaled at 1cm to 1km and the height of the hive is about 20km : 20cm , painting suggesting would be welcome . cheers!
that is definitely not from this world...that much is clear...
some pieces i can detect and possibly name...but all in all it is something i would have never been able to replicate...this is so way out of my league...
as for paintjobs on this piece...i´d go with monochrome...on that scale...i doubt if it would be able to see different colors at all...
by the way... you need to put that in a small glass dome...just like the ancient city of kandor....
Love this thread! I must have gone 10 pages back, and nearly every page got treated to some new very unique models! Had to stop though, because I was getting too much inspiration and already have too many projects. Some lovely paintwork too, very cinematic, if that makes any sense?
I have been quietly following along here for a long time, Neil101.
Great work throughout.
Nice tiny hive build.
Yeah, painting details at this scale is... tricky. But it's good to add a little to put the idea over that details exist, without trying to accurately depict every detail. Think about how comics do background detail off in the distance (a window here and there, but not every window).
Dude! That is stone-cold awesome absolutely love the BFG ship for scale. The hive dwarfs it and we all know how massive 40k starships are.
Definitely chuckled at the scale pictures of the lord and titan. Couldn't see the writing in the first pic on my phone, and could just make out 'Lord something' and thought 'wow that is a big city!'.
Then I scrolled down and saw...no...the figure is a titan. The Lord is the little pixel beside it
@ Vik , aye up old pal.. hope your doing well mate.. i took your advice and went for a monotone look. cheers ! now looking for a decent sized bell jar
@PDH
@Craggy thanks
@Dr H , stealth like ninja.. thanks for the painting advice, your right of course , i was tempted to add lights and such by airbrush or the good old flicking paintbrush technique , but the scale is so small i think it would not have worked well, or rather i would have messed it up kept it plain and archaic , i might revisit and add details at a later date though.. cheers
@Ynneadwraith glad you like it mate , yeah i was surprised at how small the warlord is ..
I am lost for words... that is a spectacular piece of work. I've found lots of inspiration reading through all of this thread, but this piece is really something special. Thanks for sharing.
Wait - you made a HIVE? You magnificent, lunatic bastard. Right, I'm subbing thread and blog, I want to see what I've been missing! Props OP, there really are no limits ;-)
its perfect....it came out as i would have wished for...it needs now a fitting backdrop...the ones you made via Photoshop are a step into the right direction...but it has to be one in THIS world (the physical one) and a permanent one!
and good to see you back here more often...i really am not the one to follow blogs in the big black void of the net... i need some kind of frame...like dakka^^
Aye up Dakka, been a while , i have been working on a landship named the House of Yeoville from a upcomming game Called Rhossum secundus hosted by the echoes of imperium guys
Thought I Would share this totem nest I built for Jonathan Hartmans Lesotho 212 game in January . As WD have kindly popped it in this months Blanchitsu.
Not been building much of late but I Wouldn't mind makiing a new board next year. Been enjoying collecting the munda models though.
Neil! It's been too long again, loving that totem, it would look great in a city square.
Also the praise is almost exactly one year late but I never saw the hive city and it is truly a thing of beauty! I thought I was the only one mad enough to build something at that scale but of course you would have beaten me to it
@monkey reminds me of the weird spider toy in toystory 2.
@Commander I Kinda hop GW make some sort of hive scale model again , like the one from the hexagonal campaign game , but much bigger and more detailed .
Nothing fancy re new board , probably a human peasant grox farm for 40k board for a small skirmish game that has resided in my head for years.
Your work is just amazing, wonderful to see a bit more, miss the "regular" updates but understand life, and get that you are busy. Looking forward to any updates you do throw our way.
It's good to see back and posting, I wasn't sure how permanent the hiatus was going to be. I got hooked on your amazing Mechanicus Manufactorum, so more updates are always appreciated.
@ cam cheers buddy ,Yeah my hobby as been sporadic for a good few years . I might drop some stuff from the blog on here at some point , but I am looking forward to getting something new done after Xmas .
@Syro Thanks , yeah not as much free time as before , so I have to be choosier with projects. I have a hankering to build a stone / wood mediaval 40k pylon .
@mc Thank you , based on Mr Blanches artwork though , so credit where due.
Hey bro. Haven't been on here for a long time but was thinking of you and PDH recently and wanted to say you were a massive part of my childhood. Sold it all awhile ago, wanted to meet women. And focusing on more useful hobbies, finishing my Carpentry apprenticeship etc. Would rather my kids just be normal kids. You understand, no one wants an artist for a son. But you are a real wizard with the models. This stuff is samey samey, but when you are good you are bloody good. Your not bipolar by any chance are you. Anyway. Stay well stay strong Kia Kaha from NZ.
Hey grag glad to hear your doing well mate. I ditched the hobby for over 20 years 2010 was my comeback year. Cant believe its been nearly 9 years since my 1st post. The doctor told me i wasn't bi polar but for a while i thought i may be. I have been working full time for a year so not much hobby time but i have a few pokers in the fire so to speak . Hope your carpentry is successful you have a great artistic eye. Always enjoyed your grimdark narrative models.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Aye up folks, Grags post has inspired me to put up some stuff i worked on this year. Not had as much hobby time as previous years but i am getting back in the swing of things.
so i made some imperial army types a while back. based on the classic gallagher wd front cover
these then became the basis for a long held dream to create a ten man old school tactical ig squad
Oh so good to see, really inspiring stuff. Came back around looking to get the itch back in me and here in the first blog I look up, beautiful models just oozing inspiration all over.
Oh, my god! I LOVE this thing! The scale is absolutely stunning. The corrosion, the overlap, the disintegration, the aggregate mess. It's just fantastic. Really evokes the grimdark horror of an semi-abandoned yet somehow still barely-functional factory. This totally looks the part. I can't heap enough praise on this thing. It's just fantastic.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I can't believe I've never come across your blog before. This whole thing is fantastic; I really love your aesthetic. This is all truly inspiring stuff.
You need a disclaimer at the start of that post, I was not ready for all that amazing looking terrain!
No idea how you dirtied up the first piece so well. It looks like it's been neglected for a century just collecting all kinds of dirt, I just want to take a pressure washer to the whole thing
And wow, the large piece is just mindblowing. So much detail crammed into every square centimeter, fantastic...
This is about the most impressive table project I've ever seen. My favorite pic/detail is the dusty computer room. So much atmosphere! Good luck with finishing the rest of it!
@Apologist Thanks mate , i havent there are plenty of little dudes and dudettes scattered about .
@Gwyn , it will be eventually when finished no doubt. a titan is about half the height i think.
this "raises" quite some questions... "how" and "why"... alsthough i know the answer to the why..."because"
but how on earth did you bring it in the backyard of yours? weight and height sure makes this a task like moving a piano... and the looming fear of destroying it in a blink of an eye....
that aside... truly mad genius of an artist... we wouldn´t have expected anything less than amazing...
Let's do some Quick Maffs. This is in a 28mm-to-the-eye scale, which is about a 1:58 scale. 5'6" is 167.64cm. Times 58 that's 97m high. That's about 33 storeys high, and equal to, say, Fenwick Tower in Halifax, the tallest building in Canada east of Quebec City.
Man this whole thread is incredible.
You're so prolific, just casually dropping several masterpieces on each page.
Your spire is such a huge project and you've executed it perfectly.
master of asgard wrote: Man this whole thread is incredible.

Thank you very much , very kind. the tread is getting on 10 years old so not that prolific given how much some folk create but still it houses most of my work although the blog has The Ages of Darthur which i consider my own Opus Maius. I should really drop more stuff from the blog on here for posterity. Glad you like the build.
@Gwyn Thank you very much , thats very kind of you to say !
@Monkey hey mate , thanks mate , yeah i really dont bother with the blog anymore , the numbers dropped right off and it fealt like a waste of time tbh , but its a good place holder for images though.
hope your well btw
Wow, another really cool board! Even with just two pieces, you seem to have really thought out the modularity. And that bunker/trench complex is just plain cool!
mcmattila wrote: Wow, another really cool board! Even with just two pieces, you seem to have really thought out the modularity. And that bunker/trench complex is just plain cool!
Thanks , yeah i might extend it in future but 4by 4 is okay. its a bit modular which should make it more versatile , i was going to add trees but thought they could wait for any extension.
Wow, that's a fantastic looking board! How are you doing the rocks? Is that just cuts of foam, or something else? I've not had much luck trying to carve my own so far
endtransmission wrote: Wow, that's a fantastic looking board! How are you doing the rocks? Is that just cuts of foam, or something else? I've not had much luck trying to carve my own so far
cheers the rocks are woodland scenic molds cast with crystacal are casting plaster . i have seen some great carved rocks though,
started making a Rotunda for an Imperial governors ball on a pleasure world. will be making the rules for a small game of highnborne social backstabbery too along with most of the npcs at the ball.
Are you printing the building parts or do you actually buy lots of GW scenery?
If you're not printing you might want to look into Archon Studios Rampart kits, they look good and are really friendly on the wallet.
