Well, I've become enthralled by them of late after starting up the Horus Heresy series finally, and I have randomly been inspired to make a Luna Wolf army. That said, I figured the best place to look current codex wise to represent them, would be the Space Wolves. You seem to be one of the go to guys for SW tactics (I did go through your tactica in your link). What do you think of SWs representing pre-heresy Luna Wolves?

I think that's a damn good idea.

I think it's a good idea both ways; Luna Wolves and Space Wolves. They were noted as aggressive (not unreasonably so, like World Eaters for example) and I'd imagine they'd have a play-style very similar to the Space Wolves. It's a really good idea IMHO man. Seriously nice. Will you do a P&M blog?
But yes, I'd say the Space Wolves are a good choice. Be sure to try and include a way to represent their spear-head tactics too, possibly with a couple of units arriving via drop pod or elites spearheading an advance. As I said though, I'd say they're a good fit. Space Wolves or Pedro/Sternguard would be most appropriate to me.
The HH series is great too. Only really the 1st 3 books (and a couple of short stories and obvious other appearances) feature them, but by and large the series is great.
If you want we can continue this discussion elsewhere (or end it) to save de-railing the thread further?

I would not object in the slightest to helping you with your duties sir and I offer any support I may provide you and the Chapter, but I do not believe it would be right for me to name the command squad which is rightfully yours sir. I will have to humbly refuse such an honour, if you would understand.

I would be happy to help select members for the command squad and act as a commanding officer or whatever duties you may wish - possibly when you're absent? - should you want such a role from me, but these are simple suggestions should you want me to help.

Btw, I've been thinking about it and I suspect although it's not the most competitive format, a drop-pod list is probably the way to go; it's much more affordable than LR's and has it's own benefits. With 200 pts squads, in 250pts transports, with 400+pts in two characters, a LR list is going to be seriously lacking in content IMHO. Again however, this isn't the time and place, but I have been thinking about it!

I wouldn't object to being granted a say in such decisions (nudge nudge Avon' ) but it's not my decision. Whilst I wouldn't complain in the slightest to being given a more... 'senior' role in the Chapter, ultimately it's Avondales Chapter (and money on 40K) so he can do with it as he pleases, and I don't intend to demand specific positions within the Chapter. Just drop subtle hints, advertise my willingness to help and conspire to over-throw him...


Hopefully you guys can understand my reasoning rather than think I wussed out. Or both. If I were to get promoted however our apothecary may have to attend to dissenters ass-kicking...

Then there's the question though Sergeant Tyr, if you should become a veteran in the command squad, or stay a (veteran) Sergeant of your own tactical squad? unless you're referring to captain/libby/chaplain/whatever in which case that's reasonable, although less likely to be added positions any time soon if you get me?

Awww, poor you already being a Sergeant! Must be really hard! I must admit, I think, like Brother Forden, I'd expect a Sergeant to be 'higher' and at the very least you get your own squad and position of leadership, but then again a command squad is more in-your-face I'd say and is a HQ unit itself, so yeah, tricky decision man!
Heck, if you make it to the command squad and I don't, then I'd be happy to lead Squad Hellfire.

I personally wouldn't mind being a Chapter Champion either (it'd be COOL) and at the very least it'd mean I could gut Brother Forden should he shoot me, but as I said earlier, I reckon one of the Vanguard Vets should probably be the Chapter Champion if there is one.
Although, as Purple said, whomever the command squad is escorting (Captain Sam or Chapter Master Avondale) should be able to handle things in close combat. Game terms, a command squad with lots of plasma guns and an apothecary could be powerful, the FNP helping against gets hot! and the amount of fire such a squad could attract...

This is all speculation however.

When is our next battle going to be?

I am not sure when our next battle will be, but as it is I have an important announcement to make.....I have decided that to make somethings easier for I have decided to give some of you positions that are non-combatent so you would still be what you are but then you have an administrative position... for example Brother Captain Sam I am deeming you as Master of training...meaning that when we are not in combat you will lead the men or women in exercises and give a detailed account on what happened every so often
