I was okay at GW1, my assassin/necromancer was fairly good anyway. I'm basically recreating her with my GW2 necromancer, albeit with less focus on spike damage and more focus on condition damage.
I was looking into doing a Guardian that focuses on burning areas of enemies along with spirit weapons while supporting with conditions, boons, and boon removal. Not sure if I did this the best way to not but I like the look of it on paper and I have not seen any videos on how others have tried this out or not.
There may not even be one on the 20th, that's just what I've picked up from the rumour mill and a few retailers. All we know is there will be a beta weekend (with no NDA) towards the end of the month and that there will be another one towards the end of next month, whether by "towards the end" it means the ultimate or penultimate weekend is unknown.
I am at work so I can not access Twitter but has said that the Friday stress test is not for pre-purchase individuals. I am thinking it is to stress the servers for the pre-purchase beta access.
I guess to also add, it is only like for 6 hours then it is shut down.
/vg/ is quite mad at the Stress Test debacle - it is extensively amusing.
Preordered standard edition because the DDE is a bunch of gak that I will not fall for. They've said over Twitter that you will be able to upgrade your Standard edition to the DDE in the future.

My best friends copy of the collectors edition arrived yesterday morning and according to the tracking mine is still in Manchester (several hours drive away).
Still no parcel, tracking still informs me it's in manchester -.-
I wrote:Hello, I recently ordered something from Zavvi and it was despatched on the 12th of this month, it immediately appeared on your tracking service as "Parcel data received awaiting coll. (MANCHESTER SERVICE CENTRE)" and the following day this was updated to "Load Transfer Receipt (MANCHESTER SERVICE CENTRE)" however since then there has been no change in it's status whatsoever. A friend purchased the same product from Zavvi at the same time and also had it despatched at 0:00 on the 12th of april however his parcel (tracking code JJD0002239226083944) was delivered on the 13th.
Is it simply a matter of your tracking service being slow to update the status of my parcel or has it genuinely been untouched for the last 4 days.
More importantly where is my parcel and when will it arrive? Thank you for your time, Tom
I wish they'd let me start downloading soon. If they release the download on thurs or fri, I won't be able to complete it in time for most of the weekend :/
JohnnoM wrote:I'm thinking of getting this, is it any good? Also what would be a good dps build?
Well it has no release date thus far and the latter is kind of redundant.
Terms like "DPS, tank and healer" are kinda useless in the traditional context here, you can have a high damage per second build but not in the usual manner. Have a look at the classes here http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/professions/ and if you like the look of any of them give me a shout and I'll run you through making a good damage build for that class.
I lurk this thread but mostly don't post.
I'm a heavy-ish GW1 player enough to get 30 in the HoM and simply stopped playing after that. Regardless, I prepurchased GW2.
I'm probably going to pre-purchase later today (in store if that makes any difference) then I'll add my account name. For the guys that have pre-purchased any news on when the beta is? I keep hearing 20th and 28th, anyone have a definite answer?
Wolf is still waiting on his delivery and slarg had a few issues trying to register related to his gw1 account. No idea what's going on with the others.

Good news!First Beta Weekend Event will be from April 27-29. We will let you know once the client is ready for download.
We'll have a blog post with details about what and when you can play later today or tomorrow. If you haven't already: pre-purchase to participate! https://buy.guildwars2.com/ ~RB2
So are there going to be duties we need to be aware of in this guild? Like paying dues, scheduled raids, joining up for PvP, and so on.
Also would it be too much to ask to add our primary class to the list of guildmates we have? I'm mostly just curious to see what people plan on playing as the most. In my case it would be Guardian. So something like this:
I thought those were common MMO terms. Then again GW1 is really the only MMO I played, and to be honest I'm not even entirely sure what a raid is other than an MMO thing.
Also dues and chipping in for things like a guild halls and furnishings is pretty common from what I remember of GW1. Usually the money would go to getting access to Hall of Heroes, The Underworld, Fissure of Woe, communal mats, dyes, and so forth.
Added my profession to the list, please copy and paste the colour code and profession from the list post and add your favoured profession to your name.
As for responsibilities, this won't be a super-hardcore guild however if when the game comes out a lot of us really enjoy the dungeons we will arrange times/days to do them based on when people are free. Conversely if everyone really loves open world PvE we could arrange questing sessions where we meet up at a certain location and just wander across the map doing dynamic events as we find them. The guild can be whatever people want it to be (within reason) and there won't be such nonsense as "you MUST get 6000 faction points a week" or "you MUST donate 500 gold a day" or "you MUST play 6 hours a day". That said donations of unneeded or items to the guild storage will obviously benefit those that need them.
This will be the list for this page, it will be updated as people add their account details (with identification number) and profession.
With me being undecided on mesmer or engineer as my last character, mostly because mesmer looks so fun to play around with. But in general, that's the order I'd use toe play them.
Corpsesarefun wrote:If you quote my post it handily displays the colour codes you need so you can c+p where applicable.
Will you be playing all those equally mel?
Don't know. Whichever gathers my attention the most I'll play the most, but necro and elementalist seem ot be the ones which interest me the most at the moment, followed by warrior, thief, nad hten mesmer/engy (prolly mesmer given how many engies we have).
Bizarrely the first time I read that I didn't register any typo's.
I'm going to delete warrior and thief from the list if that's ok, this is just a rough list of your favoured profession that will probably be your main.
blog wrote:We’re counting the days until the first public Guild Wars 2 Beta Weekend Event, which begins on Friday, April 27, at noon PDT (GMT-8) and ends on Sunday, April 29, at 11:59 p.m. PDT (GMT-8). Hundreds of thousands of players from around the world will get their first taste of Guild Wars 2—and rest assured, we’ll be playing alongside them!
There are a couple important things you need to know about this Beta Weekend Event:
The only way to absolutely guarantee your access to this or any future Beta Weekend Events is to pre-purchase any edition of Guild Wars 2.
Customers who have pre-purchased the game will receive an e-mail next week with instructions on how to download the client and participate in the Beta.
This is a public event, which means that you’re not bound by a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). So go ahead, feel free to take screenshots, shoot video, blog, tweet, write, or compose a rock opera to share your Guild Wars 2 experience with the world.
Let’s take a look at all the cool stuff you’ll be doing during the Beta Weekend Event.
Choices, Choices – You’ll create your own personalized charr, human, or norn character and pick from our eight powerful professions. Your choice of race is vital to your personal story, and it determines in which of the huge starting areas you begin as well. A noble human mesmer will have a radically different game experience than a charr engineer in the service of the Iron Legion. Fortunately, you can roll more than one character and sample each starting area for yourself!
Worlds Collide – If you want your PvP on an epic scale, look no further than World vs. World, where three teams comprising hundreds of players wage open war across four vast maps. You’ll lay siege to castles, raid supply camps, build devastating weaponry, ambush your foes, and leap into truly massive PvP battles—all for the glory of the server. We’re warning you: WvW is so addictive that you may spend the entire Beta Weekend Event there!
PvP For You and Me – After you’ve gotten your feet wet, put your newfound skills to the test in Guild Wars 2 PvP, where small teams battle for points on a variety of challenging, compact maps. We adjust the level of PvP combatants so that all players are on equal footing. If you’ve got a competitive streak or you like playing first-person shooters online, you owe it to yourself to try out Guild Wars 2 PvP!
I Love L.A. – For the first time ever, we’re opening the metropolis of Lion’s Arch to beta players. Wander the streets of this cosmopolitan trade hub, chat with traders and travelers from every corner of Tyria, hop through one of the many asura gates to points beyond, or discover the famed diving platform at Diverse Ledges. Lion’s Arch is a city like no other!
As you can see, there’s a ton of stuff to do in the upcoming Beta Weekend Event on April 27-29. It’s honestly way more content than one person can experience in 60 hours of playing—and we haven’t even included the asura and sylvari in this beta! Fortunately, this will not be the last Beta Weekend Event before launch—stay tuned for more news regarding the next event.
We’ll see you in-game!
Damn no access to youtube.. need to link Starship Troopers, Ace saying 'thats my job'
Or will be once I get the code.
edit - cheers Corpses, will take a gander when I get home. No steam, it beats my PC down like a Muskrat in a torrential rain.. however I have a lovely new PC due to arrive within a week or so, which will be well up to the task, 8gigs of DDR3. Mmmm.
So it's likely I'm starting off with a necromancress Norn now that sylvari aren't available.

There's plenty of silence after shooting someone.
Cause they're too dead to make noise.
Eh. In GW2, the firearms are musket based. If you have ever hefted, loaded, and fired a Musket you would know why I say Bow.
But then again, this is GW2. So magic guns and all that gak.
Just adding my secondary characters. Guardian and Thief are going to be my mains for sure. The Mesmer might take some experimenting but I'm certainly considering it
By the way, won't be playing guardian/engi much during the beta, as those are my Asura/Slyvari characters. Expect to see me mess around with my thief and ele, along with my warrior.
I may make another character if it turns out we need a more damage orientated build..... but I really just wanna spend the weekend hexing stuff and showing off my titles
J.Black wrote:

Thinking both my chars at the start might be norn. Something like...
Norn elementalist, norn necromancer, sylvari warrior, human mesmer, sylvari thief, in no particular order. Both lightning elementalist and blood mage necromancer seem pretty fun, not sure which one I'll go with first.
I'm planning for a Norn Ele, Sylvari Thief to steal Whitey's stuff, and Human Guardian, with no order in particular. Might also try out a Charr Warrior at a later date, no idea for my 5th slot.
As an aside, as soon as the game comes out, I'm going to create a ton of characters until I run out of Character slots just in case Birthday presents will be around GW2 as well.
Phototoxin wrote:Interesting timing from the D3 beta... do they fear competition?
I'll probably go Charr Ranger Still trying to determine if the deluxe edition is worth the extra $$ So far it seems not to be.
Aye, that was what I was sorta eluding to in the Diablo 3 beta thread with the first reply, seems a interesting time to do open Beta for Diablo 3. Although Blizz has done its best to scupper rival MMO launches in the past, so its hardly virgin territory for them there.
Could of course also be coincidence, as the game is only a month away.
As to the deluxe, aye, same, for me its not seeming worth it, Warhammer Online had temp bonuses, they annoy the gak out of me, give me something of note, or don't bother at all. Might have got one if the bank Golem was permanent bonuses, which hardly seems game breaking, but nah, decided just standard would be good.
Oh and no real idea on races, never played the first and barely looked into much info on the game other than a few reviews and what folks have said here, Sylvari seems likely or a norn.
Morathi's Darkest Sin wrote:Oh and no real idea on races, never played the first and barely looked into much info on the game other than a few reviews and what folks have said here, Sylvari seems likely or a norn.
Norn: Think Norse (Obviously). In the first game, you had to play a drinking game to impress them, which involved running back and forth from point to point, zig zagging through flags, while drunk off your ass. You try telling the Norn "War is coming", and they say "Bah, let them come". You then say "These creatures will make a good Hunt", and they all sign up as fast as they can. Fiercly independant, and the Animal Spirits, while ultimately ineffective were great fun. You are judged upon the creatures you kill and the drinks you've drunk; your either a Hero or dead weight.
Charr: Charr are the Aethiest Gunpowder faction. You free a group of them who then pledge their lives to you, but the one in your party tells them "You idiots! Do not cast away one pair of shackles for another! Any who wish to come with us may do so. Those who wish to go home, begone!" They veiw all gods as False, and they beleive in equality; a female can rise as fast as a male.
Asura: The very first one you meet is voice by Maurice Lamarche. AkA, the Brain. That tells you about all you need to know about their personality. You're judged upon your brains. They are rather stupid in the fact that they will take one thing to an extreme. For instance, if I were an Asura Chemist, I would know everything there is to know about Iron (And I do mean EVERYTHING), but would know nothing of Gold.
Sylvarri: Weren't even in GW 1, don't know what to tell you
Chowderhead wrote:MDS, as the only other ranger in the DDGW2G, what race are you planning on being?
We need to team up and kick ass.
Hehe, aye.
As to race, Mmm, been watching the vids, right now its looking like Sylvari, but I'd like to use beta to take a look at the create mode and see if I can find anything I like across the races. The only certainty at the mo, is I wouldn't take a Asura Ranger, if that even possible. (No idea if it has race/class restrictions.)
Yes, that's why I'm not making my warrior and thief yet. They're going to be sylvari. My mesmer I'm not sure about.. human probably. But the elementalist and necromancer, both norn, will be my primaries.
MrDwhitey wrote:Slyvari, Asura, Rangers and Elementalists are all incredibly girly.
I used to think Sylvari were effeminate until they revealed the Winter and Autumn style Sylvari. They're thorny, leafless, and spiteful looking things.
I'll be moving on Friday, so I probably won't get to play until Saturday, and even then, not as much as I'd like. Still, if I get a chance to jump in, just the chance alone of learning the mechanics and feel of the game would be fantastic. I won't worry too much about the game's locales, since Anet has always been fantastic about making beautiful, awe inspiring levels, even in the less-than-stellar Eye of the North. Taking the time to fully appreciate those can wait until a full release.
So does anyone have anything in particular they'd like to do in the beta?
Just play around and enjoy my character.
Pretty much this.
Get acquianted with how everything works, work out how i'm going to take it in the actual game, and just fiddle around with everything whilst I still have the chance.
Maybe I'm just weird but the lack of "/" in Slarg232's class choices is making me go crazy.
I'm most interested in seeing all kinds of random events in the beta. I mean while WvWvW, PvP, etc. have their innovations if you ever played an MMO you probably have a good idea of what those would be like, but the dynamic branching public events? That sounds pretty exciting.
It's like having open-world RPG style exploration. I can't wait to just wander around and stumble upon random encounters, just with other people added in the mix. I don't plan on sticking to the roads
Corpsesarefun wrote:And that was a paraphrased quote from the man himself
You're terrible at picking up on references.
Your references suck harder than a fusion-plasma powered vacuum cleaner designed to pick up a Neutron Star.

Yes bizarrely you need to use the email address you entered as your guild wars 1 account's email address to log in, it's stupid but the website is very work in progress.
