Got my collectors edition! The boxes (both the big white box and the metal box) are awesome but the statue is kinda crappy quality, lots of mould lines and a dodgey paint job (following the cover everything in wash school of painting)..
Ah right, you're a DCM, you wouldn't have read the thread.
Suffice it to say, it's being fixed of various problems caused by a rather insidious virus. Namely, a brand new hard drive was put in, the old one junked, windows 7 ultimate and some new anti-virus stuff was installed on that, several hardware driver errors were fixed (And one is still being fixed), amongst other things... what's causing the final delay is that he's waiting for a part, a new DVD burner since my old one seems completely unwilling to work even with a developer's kit.
The Desolation is the most popular EU server at the moment, this has its ups and its downs. Events should run smoothly and trade won't be an issue but it will likely be less satisfying when you find those secret areas.
But in all seriousness that does suck. My PC had issues a month or so back. After spending six months trying to figure out why it was turning itself off, I finally just decide to start replacing parts till the problem goes away. New power supply, problem solved... After replacing the hard drive and the motherboard. Meh. Solved so w/e. Never had a virus that bad, but my sister did. I had to replace the processor cause it melted from whatever the damn thing was doing.
I'll probably be starting with a human Mesmer or Thief depending on what my friend decides to roll first.
I also have to get up at 3am to make my characters and grab some names.
In the meantime I'm bliztkrieging through a bunch of models because I know I'm not gonna get any painting or modelling done after GW2 comes out, though when the new Chaos guys roll around that might change...
The official website says two more hours and some change. I had heard they may start a bit early, but as I am only at 57% downloaded I can't log on to find out.
Yep I'm in, couldn't get any of the five names I wanted to grab for fun stakes, but I was four hours late to the party.. is the guild up and running yet?
Hehe, ah. I really haven't looked much into this game at all to be fair, its a MMO, I played Beta off the bat, watched two vids here, not much more I need to know.
As to the slots, fair enough, that's how they plan to make money on the free model. Five it probably will be then, unless new races are added in the future.
Yeah I also need an invite to the Dakka guild. Also how does guesting work? The Desolation isn't really the best server for me so when I'm not WvWvW'ing I'd like to be on a world closer to home.
You can either wait or join another server and transfer later on.
Looks like we have a bit of a problem... I've been removed from the guild according to my interface but several others have said their interface shows I'm still the leader. I can't be re-invited as nobody else has invite rights and I can't change that until I get back to being leader
One solution is just making another guild with a Different name.
So, was playing GW2 earlier today. Went to go have dinner, quit the game.
Came back after dinner, opened the launcher, and my computer crashes.
Didn't restart my computer, no updates or additional software was installed, no settings were changed. The GW2 updater just instantly crashes my computer now.
Even tried redownloading the client. Same thing.
Weird.
EDIT: Ah, Anet's support website is pretty good. I like how it compares your query to find solutions before it actually sends the message.
...on a negative note, looks like it'll be reinstalling for half a lifetime. Dark Souls time.
Well today I completed a few maps and some jumping puzzles in Lions Arch, was pretty damn fun. Also found a karma vendor at the end of one puzzle selling weapons for about 10k karma lol. Only about 9k karma to go and I can get one!
lol.
Glad to know you got that guild confusion worked out. I heard that that was happening but didn't know it was effecting the Dakka guild
So far I haven't had that many glitches myself. Let the downloader run all day yesterday while I went to the shop and practiced some painting, came pack late at night and everything was good save that one glitched skill quest in the Sylvari zone (that's fixed now though).
I'm the only one with invite rights and somehow I've been kicked out of the guild according to my guild panel... Other people are saying theirs still shows me as leader though.
This game is awesome. I've played GW1 for a while now, since 2008 or so, and I'm really liking the changes in GW2.
Only one thing I'm confused on, GW1 you could level with quests super easy (I got 1-20 in 2 days with Factions), but in GW2 I can't seem to find a good way to level.
Especially since my next story level is 1-2 levels above me after I finish one.
Doing events and personal story, it's a flat levelling curve so it's not really hard to level if you just explore the world and do what flashes up on your screen.
So, figured out what was wrong. It wasn't GW2's fault my computer was crashing, it was my GPU dying.
So I've replaced my old GTX 570 with a brand new GTX 670, and once GW2 finishes reinstalling, I can't wait to pump that AA to some absurd degree.
And for some reason, my account validation email link is still not working. And unless they've fixed it in the last two hours, neither is my Hall of Monuments.
Guilds are still fething up... I'm now unable to represent the new guild (Dakka Korps Tyria) but I'm still shown as being a member...
From the GW2 facebook, a few common issues they are working on fixing atm:
"* Guild Issues: This includes guild membership rosters not showing correctly, guild leaders not seeing themselves in the guild, issues with receiving guild invitation notifications, etc. * In-game mail * Party issues on overflow * Trading Post"
Anyone know somewhere I can get decent advice on laptops?
I need a new one that plays this game on decent enough settings.
If you can help yourself I was wondering if this could run the game well enough. I don't have a massive amount of money to spend and wont have in the near future.
Without clicking on the link though, it has an AMD A6-3420M, 2.4 GHz, 8 gigs of RAM, and an AMD RadeonHD 6310.
Better than what I have, and it seems decent value for money.

The game's alright, I'm just playing it while waiting for Pandy to come out so I can jump on that.
But the game itself is pretty well done, can't say much though. Mostly like WoW and every other MMORPG I've played cept with different lore of coarse but thats about it, but I'll keep playing till September 23rd or whatever the release date for Mists is.
Guilds are screwed at the moment, it's entirely possible that some fix will pop up and I'll appear back in the normal guild. Until then there isn't much we can do, my 2nd attempt at making a guild failed too -.-
I'm unable to accept either invite. So I'm gonna have to wait to join the guild.
On the plus side, was playing my thief and I found a great Mighty Greatsword for my warrior The thief, sadly, is stuck using a pistol and dagger (in that order).
Currently I moved to Whiteside Ridge for a bit, just to hang with the Reddit community while guilds are acting up.
I'm solving the not-playing-all-my-alts problem by making sure i rotate my playing time of them whenever I log on. Every couple of levels or so, I swap to another character.
Guilds are now 100% fixed to I disbanded Dakka Korps Tyria and re-invited everyone to Dakka Korps. If you'd like to join either post your account name (including the random numbers) here along with your time zone or send the details to me in a PM.
Oh and everyone check your G panel for invites! You should be able to accept them now.
Bought it. Forgot what server I rolled on but I don't think it was Desolation.
Level 3 Asura Engineer..... already not terribly impressed with the game, but it'd be pretty unfair to judge it based on less than an hour of playing. The dynamic event so far seem a bit clusterfethy, but the personal story is sort of interesting so far.
That's unfortunate. I'll stick it out for a few more levels regardless. Are guilds cross server in this game? If so, my account name is RatBot.9287. If not... well, that's still my account name and I'll roll up something on Desolation.
All the classes I've played thus far have done perfectly fine-- warrior (greatsword, rifle), thief (pistol/pistol, sword/dagger), elementalist (staff), necromancer (staff, axe/dagger).
I'm about to add guardian to that list. Probably hammer and staff or greatsword. Eventually I'l probably purchase the slots needed for the other three.
Seems the guilds are still glitchy. Got an invite but would let me take it, saying it couldn't connect to server, though I was able to play the game just fine. Tried logging out and back in and it did the same thing. Tried one more time and when I came back in I was just in the guild without accepting, but if I tried to talk in the guild it would tell me that I was not a member of any guild. Good times. I'll mess around with it again later.
Melissia wrote: I'm about to add guardian to that list. Probably hammer and staff or greatsword. Eventually I'l probably purchase the slots needed for the other three.
If you go GS/Hammer then I'll eat you; this town ain't big enough for the both of us.
Grenade Kit is amazing inside and outside of water. Throwing them from walls, you can dominate WvW in defense.
Elixir B is really useful for noncombat and combat situations.
Engineers pushing Firearms and Inventions can do tremendous condition damage.
You can get a constant swiftness with Slick Boots, Medical Kit, and Elixir B.
While you're running through areas, Rocket Boots makes for a great escape, dropping any turret makes for a great bait to get mobs off you, Slick boots and Bomb kit can stop the more annoying mobs.
Kit swapping is actually fun.
Rocket Turret is the only truly useful turret, but overall great.
Overcharged Shot on the rifle is hilariously effective at knocking players off/away from things. I've gotten several kills in WvW with it alone and they're the most satisfying things I've done in the game.
You can consistently get gold participation on many DEs my simply laying down all your turrets and tossing grenades.
It's surprising how many Engineers I ran into in the higher-level areas. It's rather surprising.
Overall, the class is simply fun in its complexity. It's simply fun. Every encounter, I find myself reassessing the situation and changing up my utility skills and/or weapon in order to tailor myself for the situation.
Just as a note you can't accept guild invites, or do anything guild related from an overflow server, so make sure you're not in one.
Condition damage will boost the damage of bleeds, burns, and other damage DoTs (does poison do damage?).
So far I've been rolling through the starting zones on all my characters. Mesmer, Ranger, Thief, and Warrior down, about to do the guardian. Then I'm gonna power through the game on my Ranger, so on and so forth.
As a note for anyone starting a ranger: The Norn and Sylvari areas offer very quick and easy access to about 8 pets, and you can pick a Jellyfish up very easily in Lion's Arch. If you start a Ranger, just travel over to the Norn/Sylvari areas and pick up some pets if it suits your fancy (Includes: Fern Hound, Pink Mao, Polar Bear, Ice Drake, Brown Bear, Alpine Wolf, Raven, and Snow Leopard). The brown bear is especially cood for rangers as we have a hard time pulling off conditions from ourselves (unless Human )
So the game is clicking now, and I'm enjoying it. I'm not as head-over-heels flipping my gak "OMG BEST EVAR" in love with the game like a lot of people seem to be, but it's... it's pretty damn good.
I do seem to have run into a slight problem in that my story quest and a couple of the quests I've encountered seem to be a wee bit over my head at this point. I'm level 12 and everyone else in the area seems to be 14-16. I suppose I'll go back and collect any vistas, spawn points, etc, that I've missed and see if there are any tasks that I inadvertently skipped.
Tried to do a little WvW but my server appears to be terrible. We're getting camped at our spawn point by Blackgate and people seem to be content to feed them.

The level of your next storyline mission is shown on the top right. I recommend filling up those hearts and participating in gorup events until your level at least matches your storyline mission-- the group events are a great source of XP, you get a ton of it just for participating (gold medals are fairly easy to get-- mostly you just want to participate from beginning to end, and you'll get the gold medal rewards). You also should be on the look out for skill challenges. Some of them are pretty fun, like the platformer puzzle ones.
Morgan's Tower in the Sylvari low-level region comes to mind.
Heh, already had a email password change attempt. I knew that was possible as its the same email I use across a number of online sites and forums. Changed it to a 'use no where online' one earlier.
Haven't played much sadly, lots of stuff to do at home, plus trying to spend time with the boys while they are off has eaten into my 'me' time, but I'll be there or there abouts over the coming months.
Might take a little while longer than the rest of you to reach level cap though.
Hit level 50 in huntsman. Anyone need level 20 guns, bows, war horns, torches, etc? You might have to give me some materials for the insignia depending on wchih one you want, but i can now make masterwork bronze ranged weapons.
In fact, I have a level 20 masterwork Mighty Bronze Rifle, which I have in storage for myself, but I might replace it wit ha precise one if someone else wants the mighty one.
My rifle using warrior is only level twelve so it'll be a whiel before I can use it anyway. Amusing how she's crafting stuff about twice her level
I'm 112 Jewelcrafting, 94 Armoursmithing, and 57 Weaponsmithing (which is by far and away the most annoying of the 3).
I've eaten through so much copper these past few days... Starting to run out of Iron too. Should be okay for silver though if the market prices stay as low as they are (15c for 1 silver ore as opposed to 25c for 1 copper).

Melissia wrote: Amusing how she's crafting stuff about twice her level
My JC alt is crafting stuff that even my main can't use yet
I'm not bothered as much by the copper anymore (horray for not really needing much now!), but I am worried about iron. Silver not so much as it's only used en masse by Jewelers AFAIK, and is at least as plentiful as iron, so it'll have a larger difference in supply:demand than copper or iron.
Hopefully with nodes not being as limited a resource in GW2, the game will never suffer from the ever increasing price absurdities WoW did at its peak.
I still remember having money trouble with my main WoW char when I first started, and then making alts that would become progressively richer each time I made them thanks to the price fluctuations, to the point where my main was borrowing (okay okay, liberating... what? He was a Paladin...) cash from them.
Then trash drops became goldmines themselves and whatever remnants of an economy that remained promptly flew out the window and went South for the Winter.
I just got the game and the server that all my friends are on (Gandara) is full... if I pick another server it asks if I'm sure and states that there's a server transfer fee.
...So what do I do? Do I just sit and not play the game I paid for whilst I wait on Gandara? A queueing feature at least would be nice.
Henners91 wrote: I just got the game and the server that all my friends are on (Gandara) is full... if I pick another server it asks if I'm sure and states that there's a server transfer fee.
The server Transfer fee at this point should still be 0. As of this time it doesn't cost any gems to transfer; next time you click it check to see what price is being shown. I already had to transfer myself and the little message comes up about the cost, but it is nothing for the time being, though if you wait to long it might not be, as their is no set date for when they will kick in the fee as far as I know.
I think that looks like a Mecron Gauss Rifile myself lol
Went through all the cultural armors. The norn heavy set on females. Hot, but I question the actual protection offered Love the Sylvari sets though. Humans and Charr also. The Charr heavy set actually makes the character look like a Krogan in tier 1.
I'm liking the game myself. I'm over on bolias pass I think it's called. I'm a little courious has anyone else heard anything about a lot of people getting banned this soon? Been hearing a few things I just don't want to make a mistake on accident and get scooped up with the riffraff.
I've heard a lot about people being both temporary and perma banned for things that are treated far more severely than they should be.
For what it's worth, I've heard about the Norn karma merchant issue, and honestly, it's Anet's fault for listing the price that way.
Honestly, I haven't used public chat much (just talk with a friend on Skype), but I'm kind of scared to do much in this game because I really don't want to get banned. For example, you'd think that a language filter would be enough to mitigate a lot of the issues with course language bannings, but still people are being reported for that. What's more, people get some pretty heavy bans without much, if any warning.
Perhaps it's just a symptom of the "buy to play" model that GW2 is using, but I feel that Anet is being far too strict, and walking a very thin line between moderating its community to foster positive growth, and actively looking to punish players as harshly as possible.
If all this talk about unjust bannings is legitimate, I'm hoping that it's just the growing pains of its launch, and dies down shortly.
Well honestly, you really oughtn't to be using 'Harsh Language' on public chat anyways. Might be fine in Team chat, or on Skype, with friends, but GW is one of those series that may very well have a young, young audience playing- not to mention folks like me, who just don't appreciate an Fbomb every other word. And there's enough ways around a Language filter that still keep the meaning and even spelling of a word clear that that's not really a solution.
Fafnir wrote: I've heard a lot about people being both temporary and perma banned for things that are treated far more severely than they should be.
Don't people know that breaking the ToS they agreed to is Anet's fault?
I also take a lot of these complaints with a grain of salt as they tend to have less then solid sourcing. Often they start from someone on 4chan (where I have seen these things said at almost every major launch the last few years) or reddit, and in the end it is either just a story or only half the story told to make the banned player look good.
They offered people that clearly broke the ToS a chance to fix their permaban by saying sorry and deleting their ill-gotten items/gold, I think that's pretty lenient to be honest.
Melissia wrote: Is the poster above me high or something, or perhaps playing the wrong game?
Not sure.
I just think Charr are socially progressed Beastmen that broke away from the Chaos Gods, kind of like how the Orcs broke away from savagery with Obould in the Drizzt novels.
I play a Human Engineer as a...Human Engineer, in Warhammer Fantasy Terms under the garb of Middenheim. If I ever find canon source material for the old colors of the Drakwald province, I'll use that.
My Salad Elementalist who I've grown tired of is bald and is indistinguishable from a Drow Elf from Forgotten Realms. My buddy literally asked me in-game "dude what race is that I thought you were a salad"
I'll probably stop playing my Elementalist as I really don't like the class. I like a much more traditional Wizard, just can't get into the changing spells all the time. Looking at Necromancer right now and they look to be more of a Lich than a Warlock, per se.

Imagination is a powerful thing.
The Charr never really had gods, they attempted to worship the titans and then destroyers but both of them were greater demons at very best.
Hit level twenty, and I am one vista away from 100% in caledon forest woo.
The only questI couldn't complete was killing a champion troll.... fffffffffuck that guy is strong. he one-shotted a group of three one by one x.x and I'm a warrior in heavy armor and a higher level than him, too.
JohnnoM wrote: lol that sounds a little bit iffy, might be a glitch? Anyways im online right now so anyone wanna hang? If so message me in game, im Lord Angron.
Not a glitch. Mobs just hit ridiculously hard in GW2. I'd consider it somewhat of a design flaw, but Anet's method of breaking the "tanking" element of the "holy trinity" is by making tanking essentially impossible through incredibly powerful enemies. It's not such a huge issue for normal enemies, but it really shows in champion and boss enemies. High risk, not appropriately high reward.

Tanking is also impossible due to the fact there is no designated "healer" class.

What are you using in your 6 slot? Healing Signet is stupid powerful for a Warrior at low levels.

Not really. The proper party and skill setup should allow for some decently powerful healing to be thrown around. The only real difference is that it may not all be coming from one place. The real problem is just that the spike damage from most mobs is just way too high to actually tank it.
Anet can claim to destroy the trinity but they haven't. They've just decentralized it. Though I disagree about healing. Specialized for it, Mesmers, Warriors, and Guardians can put out a lot of healing (in the case of a warrior you can do it without a drastic loss in damage too) and maybe Ele's. More than enough healing to be called a healer.
Also as Fafnir said, tanking takes more than 1 meat shield. Some damage just goes to high for a single health pool to take over and over with the CD's. You need at least two and some AoE heals. A party has to switch between them (but then unless you've been spoiled by years of WoW this was a fairly standard thing in older MMO's dealing with large bosses).
I tend to heal a bit with my ele when Im in a keep seige because I only have medium range for most of my attacks.
1 heal is aoe and has about 40sec cd the other is a cone for a small amount on maybe 20 second cd, thats not really enough to make me think of myself as a healer.
I said maybe because I haven't looked hard at the Ele. I knew they had some healing in their water abilities, but I have no idea whats in their utility or trait skills.
You have to take in traits and utility skills (as well as the five slot heal). Warriors for example have only 1 heal on their own. But take one of their trait skills and they can have 4 heals because it makes shouts healing (and shouts are good for buffs too with low cds on some).
The mesmer is the same. They don't have much healing on their own but can make their clones (or was it the phantasms?) healing and those can be spammed fast based on what weapon and utility you have equipped.
Looking at the Necro they can do a mountain of healing if they want. making siphons heal allies, wells cause siphons, wells healing. There's a lot they can do to heal a group.
Xeriapt wrote: Anyone else playing Elementalist? Just wondering what kind of builds people are using.
Staff, focusing on lightning.
But my main focus is my warrior, haven't leveled my ele up as much. My warrior has ten points put in arms and one in might thus far. Currently I get extra precision for each passive signet I have-- my final build will have five signets anyway (Healing, Might, Fury, Dolyak, and Rage for Elite) and I'm using rifle anyway as my primary for now.
Can someone make me a Mighty (Masterwork) Bronze Greatsword, or perhaps give me some of the fine crafting ingredients necessary to make one myself? My old greatsword feels weak compared to my level twenty masterwork rifle, and I'm frankly out of ingredients for bronze-level gear at the moment-- I'm still needing to make a masterwork vital helm and resilient pauldrons for myself as it is.
Welp I'm stuck. Apparently Stealing Secrets, the first quest for the Order of Whispers is glitch and uncompletable. Good thing I took the time to level all four of my other characters to 15 so I have time to do something until they fix it.
Xeriapt wrote: Yeah Iv been hearing grenades are pretty awesome.
Oh yes! I just hit 60 and that lets me get the Grenadier trait and it's amazing. I can out-range most players and rain grenades from above as they futily poke the gate walls with their dinky weapons.
Add in the Elixir Gun for aiding allies on the walls and Deployable Turrets + Turrets, and it's amazing.
Also, it's hilarious when anyone even dares to follow you underwater. They explode.
The only problem is that grenades don't track to well against people ascending in the water.
I dont like underwater fighting much, i cant tell how close i am to my opponent sometimes, especially in larger fights, and its quite hard to navigate, specifically downward.
Interesting little tidbit for those who prebought the standard edition(unsure about other ones dunno if you got a normal copy of the game included) but in the physical copy of the game there is a piece of paper with another code on it to actually have a second login for free! I know it works too as I have tried it and now my dad is playing the game too.
Oh, and for the record, Necro healing is kind of mediocre. I play a dagger necro, and it's great fun, but the lifesteal is crap.
I would like to see Anet do something to allow you to create a proper blood necromancer. More skills where you sacrifice life or gain life and whatnot.
JohnnoM wrote: Interesting little tidbit for those who prebought the standard edition(unsure about other ones dunno if you got a normal copy of the game included) but in the physical copy of the game there is a piece of paper with another code on it to actually have a second login for free! That's supposed to be your actual pass for the game.
The code you got for prepurchasing is to let you play for a certain amount of time until the release.
Once you get your physical copy, you enter that code in.
Otherwise, your prepurchase code is supposed to stop being valid within these few days or whenever Anet thinks is a good threshold for people getting their boxed copies in.
Kindly ask for your account back from the person you gave it to. You'd end up losing the progress on your trial account though.
Otherwise, just buy a new copy. Since it's a trial key you should currently be on, it'll probably prompt you by time it is cancelled to buy a full account. You should probably get to keep your stuff then.
If all else fails, there's always support. Expect to be the laughing stock of IT for a while though.
Characters look nice.
World Graphics felt like crap compared to the games im used to.
After getting to level 6 the graphics felt fine as i got used to them. (i guess the whole initial wow...these are outdated graphics went away)
I got Guardian to level 18 is all.
So far its amusing, enough to keep playing.
I kind of wish the would fix the auction house... Along with had forums that worked, it would be nice to read some on the classes to know what im getting into as i enjoy pvp.. but dont want to end up with a crappy class for it.

2: Tank build that is actually good ?
3: DPS ?
4:How do raids /Bosses work later on ? Tanks and healing speced characters as always ?
5: Is there stat differences between races ? If so where does it say this ? / A list.
6: is there a base stat difference between Classes ?
From this post I'm guessing you're coming from WoW or a massive troll.
1. Yes the guardian can heal/support (mostly the latter) as all classes can.
2. Trying to tank in gw2 is a great way to rack up your death count, in general avoid tanking more than a single hit.
3. "DPS?" Isn't a question, do you mean what is a good DPS build for the guardian? If so Sword/Torch and lots of burning tends to give pretty good DPS.
4. There are no raids and trying to Tank/Spank will get you killed quickly, the best tactic depends on the Boss.
5. There are no stat differences between races.
6. There are no base stat differences between professions.

Not really trolling btw
but Soo to get this right
No Raids.. Just random world bosses from events ? (So far they have been a zerg fest Maybe this changes later on ?)
No Dedicated Tanks at all, try to tank something big and your dead
No Good healing class to keep above tank alive. ( i get the whole dodging concept, but i figured it would be for the large wind up attacks they do is all)
Every class can run as Heal/support ish, but nothing dedicated
Im not seeing any positives to play a Melee based class, but rather one more toward ranged. (Yes every class has range but doesnt mean its good or build well)
and no, i didnt play wow much, This game is just a bit odd is all, and im trying to give it a shot. So far it kind feels like im playing Rift, without and Dungeons.
Also trying to figure out how the game works (Hated Gw1 so didnt play it long) to get past the complaints i have.
My greatsword can kill or nearly kill most enemies by using a single attack skill. Despite being higher level and higher quality, my rifle cannot do that.
Essentially, it's hack&/Slash, almost Dynasty Warriors-esque combat (except hotkey/cooldown based, instead of combo based) where you'll want to stay mobile. Use Dodge for any hits you can, not just big swings. Move while attacking, or just move out of the way of attacks- movement doesn't interrupt attack animations, and as far as I know, there's no lock-on attacks either- just ground targetted or arc based from the character.

Also, everyone has the same vitality regardess of class.
It's the base health that changes.
Health = Base Health (from your class) + Vitality * 10
EDIT: I reverted the edit; it was done by someone with no prior edits and no evidence to back up their edit.
Note that the armor you wear is based around mitigation of damage. Warriors and Guardians have the most damage prevention. Base health is how much damage you can take before dying, Warriors and Necromancers have the most.
All classes also have the SAME vitality.
Finally got my fiery greatsword Elite skill, tis pretty awesome, does alot of dmg.
Does anyone here wvw much? So far my experience of it on Desolation is there is a a zerg running amok killing stuff and people whining in chat about people not going where they want them to.

My apologies, I did think what you said was correct but I doubted myself when the wiki disagreed. Abso is normally right
The guardian also has heavy armour and a natural health regeneration buff, they are great at mitigating conditions rather than spike damage. Guardians are in for the long fight whereas warriors are great at handling the short but intense ones.
Melissia wrote: And necromancers are good at handling both, with lots of ways of transferring conditions.
Although you have to be kind of careful as a Necro. They can handle a lot, but it only takes a little bit extra to push them over the ledge. Once you begin to struggle to keep up, everything turns to gak.

Yes, Necro does take more skill than it previously did. Still, when done right, you can be a master of condition control, which will help everyone nearby survive, not just yourself.
Also, what's the highest you guys have stacked a condition? I managed to get bleeding up to 25 or so on a champion in a skill test, it was hilarious (rifle warrior, with 90+% crit chance and a trait that causes bleeding on 33% of critical hits-- and I just kept blasting away at it with my primary attack that deals bleeding one every hit).

Conditionmancer's cool and all, but I've been having quite a bit of fun rocking dagger/warhorn. Tanking with a necro? Yes.
And I believe 25 is the highest you can stack any condition.
If I had the increased bleed duration trait I could probably have gotten that bleed up to max much faster. If the +40 precision per unused signet ends up not scaling with level (And it doesn't appear to be), I'm going to replace it with the bleed duration.
My only real complaints about the Necro so far is that the traits suck, and that I'd like to see better/more thematic blood magic. Weapon skills and utility skills are great, and the class is overall fairly versatile. We suck at spike damage, but that's intentional, and considering how good we are at attrition, completely fine.
It's just that the damn trait tree is a mess, and that I want some really dirty blood magic. Blood is Power is okay, but I want more spells where I'm sacrificing health in order to do some dirty stuff.
As an aside, I've been looking at the release traits, and I'm thinking...
Warrior, Rifle/Greatsword (rifle focus)
Spoiler:
Master Strength -- Reckless Dodge -- Berserker's Power -- Building Momentum -- Slashing Power Grandmaster Arms -- Precise Strikes -- Deep Cuts -- Critical Burst -- Crack Shot -- Attack of Opportunity -- Last Chance Master Defense -- Thick Skin -- Embrace the Pain -- Adrenal Health -- Last Stand
The build really focuses on the rifle's primary attack (Bleeding Shot), and not using her burst skill. Adrenal Health, Embrace the Pain, and Healing Signet, combined with a high Defense rating (which increases healing power), should cause her to regenerate pretty fast, ideally, while Berserker's Power, Precise Strikes, Deep Cuts, Crack Shot, and Last Chance will ensure my rifle's primary attack kicks tons of ass. The secondary weapon, Greatsword, is also boosted, with more damage and gaining many of the same bonuses that rifle does (although in a less efficient way).
Necromancer, DD/Staff
Spoiler:
Master Spite -- Parasitic Bond -- Signet Mastery -- Death Into Life -- Spiteful Marks Master Blood Magic -- Full of Life -- Dagger Mastery -- Vampiric -- Quickening Thirst Grandmaster Soul Reaping -- Gluttony -- Unyielding Blast -- Last Gasp -- Soul Marks -- Strength of Undeath -- Near to Death
It's balanced between staffs and daggers-- daggers will be fast, quick-activating weapons which steal health very quickly and efficiently, while the staff will be a tactical land mine layer that gathers a large amount of life force quickly, allowing me to amke use of a slightly more powerful and more frequent death shroud.
Unless you're a cook (in which case many items are exclusive to karma vendors) it's probably best to save karma for higher levels. There are exceptions though, if you see something really cool then buying it probably won't make much difference.
I'm currently using my brothers laptop, trying to decide on name for my norn as I'm really craving GW2 I think I'll go with Erland Keirson.
Account Security Hackers have lists of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and collected through spyware, and are systematically testing Guild Wars 2 looking for matching accounts. To protect yourself, use a strong, unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you've never used anywhere else! When accounts are hacked and then used for botting or spamming ads for gold sales, we ban the accounts until we can return them to their rightful owner. If you login and see the message, "this account has been permanently banned for a violation of the User Agreement," and you're not a gold seller, it's likely that your account was hacked. Please contact customer support using the instructions below. If you see email authentication messages in your inbox asking you to approve a login that you didn't initiate and from someplace you don't recognize, that's a sign that a hacker knows your account name and password, and is only being prevented by the email authentication feature from accessing your account. You should immediately change your password to a new, unique password that you've never used anywhere else.

Email authentication - Email authentication allows you to approve or deny each login attempt from a new location. With this feature, hackers can be prevented from logging into your account even if they guess your password. However, some customers are finding email authentication messages filtered by their email provider or are otherwise having difficulty receiving these messages. Tomorrow we will provide a secure method for customers who are having trouble with email authentication to disable it on their accounts. We ask that you use this new self-help system, and only submit a support ticket if that doesn't work for you. Password resets - Tomorrow we will provide a secure method for customers who have lost their passwords or whose passwords aren't working to reset their passwords. Support forums - The official support forums are now online, and we have a new forum for players helping other players.
Last Night's Update We largely resolved the capacity constraints with parties and guild functionality, which were causing symptoms such as party members not appearing on the map, parties not staying together as they travelled between maps, and guild manipulation not working. Note that, while capacity constraints are now addressed, there are still some specific issues we're working on with parties and guilds. In particular, there's an issue with parties not staying together as they travel into dungeons, which we plan to address tonight. We fixed issues with the storyline steps "Fury of the Dead," "Grisly Shipment," and "In The Ruins." We changed the downed mode camera to maintain a more consistent distance taking race into account.
Tonight's Update We'll fix the issue with parties not staying together as they travel into dungeons. We'll fix issues with the storyline steps "A Light in the Darkness," "Estate of Decay," "Explosive Intellect," "Rumors of Trouble," "The Lost Chieftain's Return," and "Tribunes in Effigy." We'll add an option to stop queueing for your home world, for players who want to remain on an overflow server indefinitely without being asked. <s>We'll add an option to report an account for sending spam or otherwise inappropriate in-game mail.</s> Edit: This option will be added in tomorrow night's update, not tonight's update.
[[v]Coming Soon[/b] Some players' monthly achievements didn't correctly reset on September 1 at 00:00 GMT. To allow those players to collect the next monthly reward, we will reset the monthly achievement of any player who is already at 100% for the month as of tomorrow night's update. We're working on a fix for PvP tournament rewards.
Trading Post Trading Post item and gold delivery was slow for part of the day today due to a network connectivity issue between data centers. Delayed gold and items are being delivered; check your "pick up" tab.
Gem Purchases We found some cases where players didn't receive items after purchasing them on the gem store. We have records of all occurrences and are in the process of refunding gems to all affected players. Note that refunded gems will simply be added to your account's gem balance.
Reporting exploits If you discover an emergency game-breaking or economy-breaking bug, do not exploit it, but please notify us immediately at this email address: exploits (at) arena (dot) net. You may also use this email address to report suspected security vulnerabilities. Thank you to everyone who has sent reports. However, note that we cannot respond individually to emails to this address.
Worlds & Overflow We're increasing world capacity as necessary to handle all the new players coming into the game. During this initial surge of high concurrency, and especially while most characters are low-level and thus playing in the same starting areas, it's common for players to be directed to overflow servers. To play with a friend on a different overflow server, form a party together, then right-click on the friend's portrait in the party list and click "join". We expect the use of overflow servers to naturally subside as players spread out more through the world.
Next software updates The next software update will be tonight at midnight Seattle time. We don't expect significant downtime tonight, but the game may be unavailable for 20-60 minutes during a software update.
There definitely won't be, dual classing was a huge part of what massively screwed up GW1's balance. I doubt there will be any new professions with expansions for the same reason.
Perhaps new classes? Or perhaps new abilities to classes? I feel like that's something some commentators got right- just 5 skills for each weapon set (along with the others, of course) seems a few too few. It'd be nice if (somewhat similar to the Original) you could learn more abilities for weapons sets, then make different skill sets assigned to the different weapon sets.
Spyder68 wrote:Its to hard to say they wont add new Professions one day.
Or at least more likely new weapons/bilities to make some classes feel like a new profession.

I can pretty firmly say they won't add new classes, though they could comfortably add new weapons to classes. New races on the other hand are pretty much certain.
New races would be cool. I'd actually love the bird people to become a playable race myself. Would also like spears (one or two handed) to be added as land based weapons. Maybe two handed axes as well. Personally, I'd love Halberds
Funnily enough the Tengu (the bird people) are the most likely race to become playable in an expansion! Cantha (one of the gw1 expansion areas) is the home of the Tengu.
You're actually supposed to swap between your two weapon sets (or weapon kits for engy or attunements for ele) pretty much constantly. You're also supposed to be constantly trying new weapon sets.
Sorry for break in the playable races discussion, I would pitch in if I knew more.
I only played the beta a fair while ago but is there anyway to get a demo/trial type thing for GW 2? From what I'v seen and remember it was a pretty fun game but wouldn't want to spend £40+ on a game I may end up not playing.
Anvildude wrote:Centaurs. Or a primarily aquatic race, along with more aquatic weapons.
I do like elonan centaurs, however I doubt they'll ever be added due to them having a different footprint to the other races.
There IS an elder dragon called the "deep sea dragon" that isn't really known about in-universe yet, when that surfaces for majorly I don't doubt that there will be some kind of underwater expansion. By the same token I expect when it comes to fighting Primordus (who is based in the depths of tyria) there will be a large underground expansion.
Fafnir wrote:Honestly, I don't want any more new races. I'm not a huge fan of Charr being playable, and I don't like the Norn or Asari at all.
What's more, 5 is enough races. We don't need things getting so cluttered.
So Humans only? How dull...

I'm afraid there isn't a way to demo/trial the game at this point that I'm aware of. That said the game is pretty much the cost of a normal console title with no monthly fee so it's not a huge plunge to take, if you have spare money that you'd otherwise spend on say 2 boxes of ork boys then you may as well give the game a go

Ah so it wasn't my lack of google fu then lol. Don't have the money off hand right now to buy it so it will have to wait I guess. Only hope I remember about when that time rolls around XD.
I would call humans dull as I play fantasy games (and indeed all non-fiction) for the fantastical element, humans are far too everyday. I do have a friend that thinks like you though, he hates Charr and Asura and feels that only Humans, Norn (who are really just tall, loud humans) and Sylvari (who are "cool") should be playable.
That said I also agree with Xeriapt's interpretation, I'd find just one or two races in an MMO rather dull after a while.
Also, anyone up for skyping while playing add Thomas_Joynson on skype.
Humans in this game are dull. Pretty much <insert generic fantasy humans here> and we've seen it 1,000 times already. Nothing remotely interesting about Kryta, which is why only 1 of my characters is a human (despite having some of the better cultural armors).
I personally don't care about Asura. While the Charr at first struck me as a rip of Warcraft Orcs but with Chimera bodies, I like the direction taken with Charr culture and society. While they fill the same roll (and hello night elves *cough* I mean Sylvari) I think that all the races in GW2 have enough unique flavor to them to make them interesting. Except for humans. Who are just bland generic.
Ascalon was interesting (Being ghosts makes them even more interesting now). Kryta however is not imo interesting at all. Cool maybe, but then its a video game. Just about everything is designed to be cool
I guess that'll depend on how one chooses to determine interesting I look at Kryta and I see the same thing I've seen hundreds of times before. It just doesn't catch my interest at all (even the Norn are kind of borderline generic, but I guess I'm more forgiving towards vikings ).
I should be getting Guild Wars 2 tommorow, can't wait.
Is there any details I should know that i've missed over the last 40 something pages of discussion to do with the Dakka Guild (If there is one) and what not?
Ask corpses for an invite. He should be ProfDrWarthog in-game or something to that matter.
Gather everything, crafting's worth it. Don't always sick to the hearts on the map, they're just a basic guideline, but if you complete one and go back to the person who is in charge of the heart you can get some decent gear.
Play whatever class you like, doesn't really matter, unless you really like melee, then don't go engineer.
You can deposit crafting materials into your bank straight from your inventory. Just right click on them and select deposit.
You can buy gems, which are the cash shop currency, with in-game gold. This means you don't need a credit card to get whatever you want, just means that you need some time to farm up the gold.
Buy trait books as soon as possible. There's no advantage to saving them for later.
For weapons, try to bring one melee set and one ranged set, and one of them should be aoe and the other single target. Remember you can swap in the middle of battle, but not constantly.
I dunno too much about PvP, but I do know that in WvW and dungeons, long ranged sustained aoe is your best friend e.g. engineer grenades.
That's all I can think of for now. Cya in-game. Most of use are on Desolation server.
The Mursaat are part of the lore for White Mantle and White Mantle is <insert generic religious opposition force> (and frankly high advanced/ascended humans aren't exactly original either).
LordofHats wrote: The Mursaat are part of the lore for White Mantle and White Mantle is <insert generic religious opposition force> (and frankly high advanced/ascended humans aren't exactly original either).
What is original then?
I mean, gak, everything has been done before. Its just tweaked here and there enough to make it different.
I'm a completionist so I kind of have to roll human (3 times in fact) to do all the story lines
What is original then?
Nothing really. Humans in fantasy get hosed by always being in fantasy. There's no new ground to thread with fantasy humans anymore (and some people are fine with that). We probably get a new interesting take on it once a decade if we're lucky. EDIT: Take the Sylvari for example. Plant people have been done before. But it's not really something that gets done a lot, so they interest me much more because I haven't seen it a hundred times already.
Human interactions as the single playable race in a world with multiple races can work really well when you work on establishing the other races as something unique and extremely foreign to basic human culture. The air of mysteriousness and curiosity you can create through that can help make a really immersive world. In other words, start with what you know, and use that to introduce the player to a much more intriguing world. The limitation on the player's choice of race holds them at arms length, but keeps them always looking.
GW2 goes in a completely different direction, and eschews such a method of establishing atmosphere. It's not inherently worse, but I don't like the idea of more races being inherently better. This is regardless of how much one may like or dislike the available races.
Melissia wrote: I find humans in this game to be cool, but then again, I actually paid attention to the storyline in both GW1 AND GW2.
As sinful as it might be, I am afraid that I've jumped into this game with no experience of the prequel or any knowledge of the background whatsoever... Just like on WoW, I hope to piece it all together as I go along (I do have an appreciation for lore).
So I effectively approached the game with a fresh perspective. I'm afraid that the humans came across as your usual run-of-the-mill generic American accented lacking-in-personality sorts.
My main is a Norn now, though I am levelling up a human Thief close behind
So, I'm level 76 now, and in one of the later areas, and I swear, the spawn rate is ridiculous for some parts. It's just impossible to get anything done in some instances. I can kill 2-3 zombies at a time, but just as many pop up (and if I'm really lucky, a veteran or two) just as I get those.
I'd like to continue in my story, but in order to do so, I need to cross a bridge. The problem is that the bridge (and its waypoint) are currently under siege by a bunch of zombies. The bigger problem is that although I, and perhaps a few others, are capable of killing our fair share of zombies, they immediately respawn at a rate that makes it impossible to actually capture the point.
I don't know whether this is just the high-level areas not being populated that's the problem, or the respawn rate just being way too high. Either way, it's incredibly frustrating.

Played some ridiculously awesome pvp the last couple days (basically powered myself from 69 to 80 in a day). My guild on Yaks Bend is pretty small, but the Pepperidge Farms Remembers are fierce. We're pretty much all 80 now and three or four of us have near complete sets of the 400 skill crafted armors/weapons.
Yesterday was especially fun - we had a huge advantage in raw points, but were getting pushed back on all fronts by another server (can't remember their name, referred to as Green). They had the garrison and we had Ascension Bay - middle west. They had four goddamned trebuchets set up on the top of the cliff inside the garrison that could range all the way over to the front of Ascension Bay (handy tip for anyone who wants it) and they kept knocking down the walls and door. It was a crazy ass take no prisoners general melee inside the walls. Thankfully they couldn't coordinate well enough to take the inner keep and the orb stashed inside. It was nuts though, my buddies doing spec op assaults out of the water, spotting for me so I could rain death with my mortar on the walls. Blowing the bejesus out of all the siege weapons they'd try to set up.
World pvp is the cat's freaking pajamas. I can actually see myself playing this one long term based solely on that.
Three of us went dungeon crawling yesterday, in Ascalon Catacombs. I took command because no one else volunteered, and despite a few hiccups-- mostly on the couple-- it went pretty well. Crushing King Adelbern again is always fun.

That sounds awesome!
It really isn't last night I was stuck (along with a few others), and literally unable to proceed.
On an unrelated note, I love the quotes my necromancer says when my minions die. "No! I hand raised that minion!"
Would I be able to get an invite to the guild as well, I think I was in it at some stage but when there were the hiccups with guilds I think I got booted.
