I should be getting Guild Wars 2 tommorow, can't wait.
Is there any details I should know that i've missed over the last 40 something pages of discussion to do with the Dakka Guild (If there is one) and what not?

Ask corpses for an invite. He should be ProfDrWarthog in-game or something to that matter.
Gather everything, crafting's worth it. Don't always sick to the hearts on the map, they're just a basic guideline, but if you complete one and go back to the person who is in charge of the heart you can get some decent gear.
Play whatever class you like, doesn't really matter, unless you really like melee, then don't go engineer.
You can deposit crafting materials into your bank straight from your inventory. Just right click on them and select deposit.
You can buy gems, which are the cash shop currency, with in-game gold. This means you don't need a credit card to get whatever you want, just means that you need some time to farm up the gold.
Buy trait books as soon as possible. There's no advantage to saving them for later.
For weapons, try to bring one melee set and one ranged set, and one of them should be aoe and the other single target. Remember you can swap in the middle of battle, but not constantly.
I dunno too much about PvP, but I do know that in WvW and dungeons, long ranged sustained aoe is your best friend e.g. engineer grenades.
That's all I can think of for now. Cya in-game. Most of use are on Desolation server.

The Mursaat are part of the lore for White Mantle and White Mantle is <insert generic religious opposition force> (and frankly high advanced/ascended humans aren't exactly original either).

What is original then?
I mean, gak, everything has been done before. Its just tweaked here and there enough to make it different.

I'm a completionist so I kind of have to roll human (3 times in fact) to do all the story lines
What is original then?
Nothing really. Humans in fantasy get hosed by always being in fantasy. There's no new ground to thread with fantasy humans anymore (and some people are fine with that). We probably get a new interesting take on it once a decade if we're lucky. EDIT: Take the Sylvari for example. Plant people have been done before. But it's not really something that gets done a lot, so they interest me much more because I haven't seen it a hundred times already.

Human interactions as the single playable race in a world with multiple races can work really well when you work on establishing the other races as something unique and extremely foreign to basic human culture. The air of mysteriousness and curiosity you can create through that can help make a really immersive world. In other words, start with what you know, and use that to introduce the player to a much more intriguing world. The limitation on the player's choice of race holds them at arms length, but keeps them always looking.
GW2 goes in a completely different direction, and eschews such a method of establishing atmosphere. It's not inherently worse, but I don't like the idea of more races being inherently better. This is regardless of how much one may like or dislike the available races.

As sinful as it might be, I am afraid that I've jumped into this game with no experience of the prequel or any knowledge of the background whatsoever... Just like on WoW, I hope to piece it all together as I go along (I do have an appreciation for lore).
So I effectively approached the game with a fresh perspective. I'm afraid that the humans came across as your usual run-of-the-mill generic American accented lacking-in-personality sorts.

So, I'm level 76 now, and in one of the later areas, and I swear, the spawn rate is ridiculous for some parts. It's just impossible to get anything done in some instances. I can kill 2-3 zombies at a time, but just as many pop up (and if I'm really lucky, a veteran or two) just as I get those.
I'd like to continue in my story, but in order to do so, I need to cross a bridge. The problem is that the bridge (and its waypoint) are currently under siege by a bunch of zombies. The bigger problem is that although I, and perhaps a few others, are capable of killing our fair share of zombies, they immediately respawn at a rate that makes it impossible to actually capture the point.
I don't know whether this is just the high-level areas not being populated that's the problem, or the respawn rate just being way too high. Either way, it's incredibly frustrating.

Played some ridiculously awesome pvp the last couple days (basically powered myself from 69 to 80 in a day). My guild on Yaks Bend is pretty small, but the Pepperidge Farms Remembers are fierce. We're pretty much all 80 now and three or four of us have near complete sets of the 400 skill crafted armors/weapons.
Yesterday was especially fun - we had a huge advantage in raw points, but were getting pushed back on all fronts by another server (can't remember their name, referred to as Green). They had the garrison and we had Ascension Bay - middle west. They had four goddamned trebuchets set up on the top of the cliff inside the garrison that could range all the way over to the front of Ascension Bay (handy tip for anyone who wants it) and they kept knocking down the walls and door. It was a crazy ass take no prisoners general melee inside the walls. Thankfully they couldn't coordinate well enough to take the inner keep and the orb stashed inside. It was nuts though, my buddies doing spec op assaults out of the water, spotting for me so I could rain death with my mortar on the walls. Blowing the bejesus out of all the siege weapons they'd try to set up.
World pvp is the cat's freaking pajamas. I can actually see myself playing this one long term based solely on that.

Three of us went dungeon crawling yesterday, in Ascalon Catacombs. I took command because no one else volunteered, and despite a few hiccups-- mostly on the couple-- it went pretty well. Crushing King Adelbern again is always fun.

It really isn't last night I was stuck (along with a few others), and literally unable to proceed.
On an unrelated note, I love the quotes my necromancer says when my minions die. "No! I hand raised that minion!"
