This might actually explain some of the bannings:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_status_updates

Account Security
Hackers have lists of email addresses and passwords stolen from other games and web sites, and collected through spyware, and are systematically testing Guild Wars 2 looking for matching accounts. To protect yourself, use a strong, unique password for Guild Wars 2 that you've never used anywhere else!
When accounts are hacked and then used for botting or spamming ads for gold sales, we ban the accounts until we can return them to their rightful owner. If you login and see the message, "this account has been permanently banned for a violation of the User Agreement," and you're not a gold seller, it's likely that your account was hacked. Please contact customer support using the instructions below.
If you see email authentication messages in your inbox asking you to approve a login that you didn't initiate and from someplace you don't recognize, that's a sign that a hacker knows your account name and password, and is only being prevented by the email authentication feature from accessing your account. You should immediately change your password to a new, unique password that you've never used anywhere else.

Customer Support
Our customer support team is prioritizing hacked accounts and other blocking login issues over other types of support requests.
Hacked accounts - If you submit a support ticket for a hacked account, ensure it is properly prioritized by following these instructions. We're resolving prioritized hacked account tickets within 72 hours. If you have an older hacked account ticket that has not been resolved, it may not be properly prioritized, or the ticket may not contain enough information for us to address it quickly. Please update your existing ticket, clearly state that this is a hacked account ticket, and provide as much information as possible, including your account email address, your account display name or character names, and your 25-digit Guild Wars 2 serial code.
Email authentication - Email authentication allows you to approve or deny each login attempt from a new location. With this feature, hackers can be prevented from logging into your account even if they guess your password. However, some customers are finding email authentication messages filtered by their email provider or are otherwise having difficulty receiving these messages. Tomorrow we will provide a secure method for customers who are having trouble with email authentication to disable it on their accounts. We ask that you use this new self-help system, and only submit a support ticket if that doesn't work for you.
Password resets - Tomorrow we will provide a secure method for customers who have lost their passwords or whose passwords aren't working to reset their passwords. We ask that you use this new self-help system, and only submit a support ticket if that doesn't work for you.
Support forums - The official support forums are now online, and we have a new forum for players helping other players.

Last Night's Update
We largely resolved the capacity constraints with parties and guild functionality, which were causing symptoms such as party members not appearing on the map, parties not staying together as they travelled between maps, and guild manipulation not working. Note that, while capacity constraints are now addressed, there are still some specific issues we're working on with parties and guilds. In particular, there's an issue with parties not staying together as they travel into dungeons, which we plan to address tonight.
We fixed issues with the storyline steps "Fury of the Dead," "Grisly Shipment," and "In The Ruins."
We changed the downed mode camera to maintain a more consistent distance taking race into account.

Tonight's Update
We'll fix the issue with parties not staying together as they travel into dungeons.
We'll fix issues with the storyline steps "A Light in the Darkness," "Estate of Decay," "Explosive Intellect," "Rumors of Trouble," "The Lost Chieftain's Return," and "Tribunes in Effigy."
We'll add an option to stop queueing for your home world, for players who want to remain on an overflow server indefinitely without being asked.
<s>We'll add an option to report an account for sending spam or otherwise inappropriate in-game mail.</s> Edit: This option will be added in tomorrow night's update, not tonight's update.

[[v]Coming Soon[/b]
Some players' monthly achievements didn't correctly reset on September 1 at 00:00 GMT. To allow those players to collect the next monthly reward, we will reset the monthly achievement of any player who is already at 100% for the month as of tomorrow night's update.
We're working on a fix for PvP tournament rewards.

Trading Post
Trading Post item and gold delivery was slow for part of the day today due to a network connectivity issue between data centers. Delayed gold and items are being delivered; check your "pick up" tab.

Gem Purchases
We found some cases where players didn't receive items after purchasing them on the gem store. We have records of all occurrences and are in the process of refunding gems to all affected players. Note that refunded gems will simply be added to your account's gem balance.

Reporting exploits
If you discover an emergency game-breaking or economy-breaking bug, do not exploit it, but please notify us immediately at this email address: exploits (at) arena (dot) net. You may also use this email address to report suspected security vulnerabilities. Thank you to everyone who has sent reports. However, note that we cannot respond individually to emails to this address.

Worlds & Overflow
We're increasing world capacity as necessary to handle all the new players coming into the game.
During this initial surge of high concurrency, and especially while most characters are low-level and thus playing in the same starting areas, it's common for players to be directed to overflow servers. To play with a friend on a different overflow server, form a party together, then right-click on the friend's portrait in the party list and click "join". We expect the use of overflow servers to naturally subside as players spread out more through the world.

Next software updates
The next software update will be tonight at midnight Seattle time. We don't expect significant downtime tonight, but the game may be unavailable for 20-60 minutes during a software update.

I may very well have to roll up an Asura Elementalist. Was leaning towards that (or Engineer) already, but yeah.

Think there'll be any Dual-Classing in this one, like there was in GW1?

There definitely won't be, dual classing was a huge part of what massively screwed up GW1's balance. I doubt there will be any new professions with expansions for the same reason.

Its to hard to say they wont add new Professions one day.

Or at least more likely new weapons/bilities to make some classes feel like a new profession.

Perhaps new classes? Or perhaps new abilities to classes? I feel like that's something some commentators got right- just 5 skills for each weapon set (along with the others, of course) seems a few too few. It'd be nice if (somewhat similar to the Original) you could learn more abilities for weapons sets, then make different skill sets assigned to the different weapon sets.

It was also one of the more fun elements of class customization in GW1.

It had its ups and downs. I don't mind entirely that it's gone, but I do lament its loss.

I can pretty firmly say they won't add new classes, though they could comfortably add new weapons to classes. New races on the other hand are pretty much certain.

New races would be cool. I'd actually love the bird people to become a playable race myself. Would also like spears (one or two handed) to be added as land based weapons. Maybe two handed axes as well. Personally, I'd love Halberds

Funnily enough the Tengu (the bird people) are the most likely race to become playable in an expansion! Cantha (one of the gw1 expansion areas) is the home of the Tengu.

I wish each weapon had 3-5 more abilities.

So far almost every weaponset has 1-2 skills i dislike.

But then again.. this game is made for in game weapon swapping.

You dont have just 5 weapon skills and 5 on other side.

You have 10 weapon skills and 5 on other side 100% of the time. You have to swap constantly it feels.

You're actually supposed to swap between your two weapon sets (or weapon kits for engy or attunements for ele) pretty much constantly. You're also supposed to be constantly trying new weapon sets.

I constantly swap.

Though it only takes an hour to unlock all the weapon skills in the game.

Honestly, I don't want any more new races. I'm not a huge fan of Charr being playable, and I don't like the Norn or Asari at all.

What's more, 5 is enough races. We don't need things getting so cluttered.

Sorry for break in the playable races discussion, I would pitch in if I knew more.

I only played the beta a fair while ago but is there anyway to get a demo/trial type thing for GW 2? From what I'v seen and remember it was a pretty fun game but wouldn't want to spend £40+ on a game I may end up not playing.

Thanks

I do like elonan centaurs, however I doubt they'll ever be added due to them having a different footprint to the other races.

There IS an elder dragon called the "deep sea dragon" that isn't really known about in-universe yet, when that surfaces for majorly I don't doubt that there will be some kind of underwater expansion. By the same token I expect when it comes to fighting Primordus (who is based in the depths of tyria) there will be a large underground expansion.

I'm afraid there isn't a way to demo/trial the game at this point that I'm aware of. That said the game is pretty much the cost of a normal console title with no monthly fee so it's not a huge plunge to take, if you have spare money that you'd otherwise spend on say 2 boxes of ork boys then you may as well give the game a go

I want to play as a Skritt :/

Anyway, I hope they add Spears/Polearms as two-handed melee weapons (NOT like they did with paragons, that was kind of dumb).

I think what he meant was that having only 1 or 2 races to play with would be dull.

Dark Eldar- 1500pts Completed
Grey Knights- 1500pts 1 Guy done
Chaos Daemons- Approx 5000pts
Slaanesh Daemons- 1500pts, in progress
Khorne Daemons- 1500pts, in progress
Death Korps of Krieg- Plans being formulated.
---------------------------------------------------
High Elves- Approx 2000pts
Vampire Counts- Raising the dead once more

I don't like the skritt, though that's mostly because of their squeaky voices that endless loop when they idle...

 Fafnir wrote:

I would call humans dull as I play fantasy games (and indeed all non-fiction) for the fantastical element, humans are far too everyday. I do have a friend that thinks like you though, he hates Charr and Asura and feels that only Humans, Norn (who are really just tall, loud humans) and Sylvari (who are "cool") should be playable.

That said I also agree with Xeriapt's interpretation, I'd find just one or two races in an MMO rather dull after a while.

Also, anyone up for skyping while playing add Thomas_Joynson on skype.

Humans in this game are dull. Pretty much <insert generic fantasy humans here> and we've seen it 1,000 times already. Nothing remotely interesting about Kryta, which is why only 1 of my characters is a human (despite having some of the better cultural armors).

I personally don't care about Asura. While the Charr at first struck me as a rip of Warcraft Orcs but with Chimera bodies, I like the direction taken with Charr culture and society. While they fill the same roll (and hello night elves *cough* I mean Sylvari) I think that all the races in GW2 have enough unique flavor to them to make them interesting. Except for humans. Who are just bland generic.

Ascalon was interesting (Being ghosts makes them even more interesting now). Kryta however is not imo interesting at all. Cool maybe, but then its a video game. Just about everything is designed to be cool

I guess that'll depend on how one chooses to determine interesting I look at Kryta and I see the same thing I've seen hundreds of times before. It just doesn't catch my interest at all (even the Norn are kind of borderline generic, but I guess I'm more forgiving towards vikings ).
