Welcome to May's Dakka (unofficial) Monthly Painting Challenge. For those who aren't familliar, this is a no-prize-related challenge open to any and all painters and hobbyists. Anyone can enter, from a newcomer to the hobby with your first box of minis to a multiple-time Golden Demon champion, and the winner each month will be decided by community poll, not just on the paintwork but on the effort, creativity and awesomeness of the finished piece!
For this month, the theme is: Fast And Furious
For example, this includes:
Any kind of model described in its rules or background as faster than normal models
Any kind of transport, from a unicycle to a tank, a horse or a jetpack
Any model in a running/flying pose
Any model renowned for being angry/furious
Slight rules change, you can now have 5 pics for your final entry as opposed to 4, in the interests of making it easier for people doing full squads.
How To Enter - You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it. This could be unassembled, primed or even basecoated, so long as we can see where you are starting from. Entries that do not submit a Proof Picture will not be elligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 5 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. If you do not finish in time, the single most recent WIP picture may be submitted.
So What Do I Win? - Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month Following the vote, points will be awarded for the following:
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have? This challenge begins Friday 1st May and will end at midnight GMT on the 31st May. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.
Voting Guidelines
When voting, consider the following as well as the quality of the paintwork:
- The creativity and originality of the entry
- The overall composition of the piece, such as basing, conversion and coherency between the models
- The relevance of the entry to the theme
- The effort the painter has put into the entry
I failed the last one but I wont fail this one, here is my entry, a guy on a horse, which makes him fast, and he is finecast so he is probably pretty angry.
Amdûr, lord of blades, not the TES blades, the weapon ones.
I know the bike is an old crappy one, but I’m not rebuilding this guy. Jetbike Autach. He might get some boys to fly with, but I’m trying to keep my goals reasonable.
I'm in but trying to decide between ravenwing standard bearer or a Vindicator tank. I fancy making something bigger this month, but do we call tanks fast? Let me know Para then I'll post the proof.
TP^DC Deputy Manager wrote: I'm in but trying to decide between ravenwing standard bearer or a Vindicator tank. I fancy making something bigger this month, but do we call tanks fast? Let me know Para then I'll post the proof.
BA tanks are fast.
Vindis are defiantly furious. I think the ravenwing fits the theme better, but a case could be made for the tank. And frankly, that’s what matters.
I'll be painting the Vindi up in DA colours and it's faster than a snail
I got his urge last night to paint something that wasn't too fiddly, looked mean and would destroy stuff with he flick of a switch (I may have watched Band of Brothers again, oh dear)
After some deliberation, I have decided to enter my Khorne Daemonkin Raptors:
I should have a new camera very soon so people can actually see my stuff better and critique it!
Btw TP, that rhino kit looks like the same one I've built, but that box art looks way different. Is it an older release of the same kit?
If you think that is old, I got a GW mini from 1985.
Lead poisoning!
Flashback Friday is that way. I almost snapped a picture of an old RT rhino box I’ve got in the basement. I had the camera in hand even. But thought it was too much effort for a gag.
Maybe next moth we can have “Relic” as an option. See how much old lead gets dragged out for fresh paint.

Blast from the Past would be a great theme, we might even see Squats surfacing. [Looks over shoulder] Not that I know what those are...
Was struggling with ideas on what I could complete this month as I'll be spending less time than normal on my entry. Was going to just skip this month but then had a perfect idea.
It involves eldar and redoing my paint scheme for them, that or redo the scheme I started several years ago! Proof pics over the weekend.
I bought that when it was new with the FW conversion components at Games Day. At the time it was the only way to get a Vindicator. You lucky people can just go and buy an all plastic set now.
I even have a pair of original 1st ed terminators my brother gave me when he got bored of them (silly boy). I keep them in my painting box as a memento, I won't ever paint them.
Expect more dated packaging while I'm still around. I got a cupboard full!
TP^DC Deputy Manager wrote: Ustrello - oh the good old days when tanks had big spiky bits to impale those irritating xenos!
I do like the impalely plow personally, but I don't know if I will paint it bloody or leave it as metal. Also considering doing some pre primer battle damage to it.
TP^DC Deputy Manager wrote: Bloody is a bit too obvious on the spikes IMO. Like the idea of damage pre-priming.
And now for all you kids out there:
And that was also bought from new
Now I'm only 32, so don't start imagining I was alive when the first created the TV, but see how times change.
That is cool. Pardon my ignorance, but is that a Rogue Trader-era kit, or is it second edition? I have seen some models with similar-looking boxes on eBay before (some of them not too expensive), so I wondered if it would be cool to collect and use in games.
Not sure what I'll do yet. Probably not enough time to convert up a vehicle from my 40k bits AND paint it but... at the very least I'll come up with something.
Worst case... I'll repaint a z95 to have the shark/monster teeth for N'dru Suhlak.

Yeah that is an early edition rhino. I do not believe it is legal to play anymore because it has different dimensions that the new rhino sculpt.

Say what?!!!!
The old rhino served from RT until the one we have now. Lots of re-boxings over the years though (for both). As for the legality of it, that’s a kettle of fish, but I’ve never received anything but compliments for the pair of mine I field. Someone, somewhere might complain about MFA, but it’s an official GW model. And my RTB01 marines always feel at home there.
Lots of awesome entries this month. Going to be a photo finish!
OP updated (and by the way, I'm only adding those who have posted Proofs just to keep it neater, so don't panic if you've signed up but aren't there, you'll be added as soon as you post a Proof)
I have a mini diorama im working on with a blood angel in it.. Hes not moving fast but would he get away with being furious? He has an angry expression...
Excellent! Heres a proof pic. Youll have to excuse the fact that hes pretty much complet.. If necessary i can provide a less finished pic of his adversary
Well, let's try this again. Maybe this time I won't get a forum ban right at the submission deadline. This month's entry might be a bit too ambitious, but I've been putting it off for too long and maybe this will finally make me get some paint on it.
I wanna do one of those speeder/drop pod tempest conversions but I just don't see it happening in time. Trying to find something more manageable that isn't an x-wing repaint, but may just have to go along those lines.
I mean I could do a DE raider but it would be more likely to be done up as a floating food kiosk ala 5th element rather than fast OR furious
@Peregrine:
If you finished last month, but couldn't post the final entry, then PM me a link to the finished pics and I'll make sure you get the points for completion.
This looks fun! Here's my entry, a Hassassin Ragik from Infinity. It's an airborne deployment unit in an army of assassins, so he comes in using something similar to deep strike (pretty fast!).
Mind if I join in? Never tried any official or unofficial painting comp before and am terrible at getting minis finished so hoping this might push me a little bit to do some painting!
Proof pic, under-coated, but gonna be white scars anywho.
I'd like to throw my hat in here, and for my choice, a Blood Angels Sanguinary Priest, with a Jump Pack. Not sure how much more fast or furious you can get. Maybe jump pack Khorne Berzerkers
Proof pic below (a happy accident, because he's one of the two HQ's I'm working on for my army.
i was going to paint Warlord Queek for this challenge, but dealines are too tight to just do a model for fun right now:(...
instead, i will have to go with another Marine...
fast???
furious???
i think a sprinting, giant chainsaw wielding looney should qualify...
this is Gabriel Seth, Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers Space Marine Chapter, and my contribution to the charity auction at the NOVA Open this year...
i was very honored to be asked to contribute to the such a big charity event...
i had no idea that any of the organizers even knew my work...
this month should be fun...
everyone has really stepped-up the last two months...
it is awesome to see people finishing so many cool models...
you guys painting squads are crazy!!!
Some nice looking entries already! Should have a wip up soon, I've decided to concentrate on just 3 models to see how I get on with a view to entering 5.
I'll update this post with my proof picture when I get home tonight, going to be doing an Ork Trukk for this entry. Will be my first finished vehicle, looking forward to the challenge.
Edit: Proof
Spoiler:
Looks like it is going to be another good month with the entries in so far, Good luck all
i just photograph everything now so i can enter anything that is relevant. my nightlord in the first comp had been finished for about 3 weeks before i entered it.

I’m the same way. I normally snap an in progress build picture or two for my blog, and normally one when I finish glueing everything together and send it off to the “to-prime” box. When I get a clear day to break out the rattlecan of primer, often the camera will show up as well.
Once it’s all ready for paint, the minis move over to the bench to glare at me and make rude gestures for weeks/months/years until I get around to slapping some color on.
The autach I’m doing this month had his parts cut from the sprue about a year and a half ago, finally assembled 2-ish months ago, and primed 3 weeks ago.
...I should probably get moving on painting now...
Stormwall wrote: Well guys, I've been getting distracted by an Epic 40k tank.
uhhh... hm. I wonder if that counts for this contest?
That would be fine if you want to switch entries!
@jah: awesome mini for an awesome cause, looking forward to seeing it!
Since I am stupid, I think it shall be my entry. I don't know how to fix my lightbox pictures yet though... they always seem washed out.
Edit: Here are some desk photos that were not the ones I took in the lightbox.
So all my LRs started in this color or in a god awful Crimson Fist undercoat that is nigh impenetrable. They all had to be undercoated black, including my entry.
Pictures from all sides.
Spoiler:
The base is next. I'm excited. I was going to go for a grey slate tile but, I think I might go for a green glass type tile as seen in Phutarf's cathedral.
Oh. Obligatory "this is my first painted mini, if it's crap call it crap but, don't be too harsh," post.
Epic scale seems to picking up a bit recently, it's good to see! Love painting all the really tiny stuff, wish I'd gone for some goodies for my word bearers epics now. Seeing everybody else's posts is inspiring to do all my other projects, rather than the one I'm supposed to be painting for this comp!
OK, you guys can definitely count me in for this one. I know exactly what I'm going to do. Supporting pics for model will be provided today or tomorrow.
Cross linking this from my new P&M blog, wont clutter this one up too much with all the wips so just the odd one to show where I'm upto encase people don't have the time to check the thread.
Fast and Furious you said? Well, my Orks are Da Fasta'n Da Furiouz!!!
So, I have a doubt about what model to use. It will either be the converted Morkanaut that I'm currently working on and that I was planning to finish anyway this month:
or the Wazdakka Gutsmek that I created a long time ago but haven't really started painting:
'Cause TazN just deserves the win. I'm sorry, he's mixing 40k and Asian Dragons and making it look awesome. I don't think any of us stand much of a chance.
I would have been tempted to not show any WiP pics, then drop the finished pic on the deadline and blown everyone's minds
I did that with my BA banner but I want to get feedback as I'm going as someone may spot something I miss. I have now finished the head off and will be starting on the limb tomorrow then fingers crossed the body will be done over the weekend.
There are some nice entries so far, looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with now.
Some good stuff being shown so far, and I am looking forward to seeing the progress made on the proof pictures everyone is posting.
So I thought I would throw up a WIP picture, really having fun painting this one so far (probably sitting at about 90%). This is the first time I have painted a giant lizzard, normally it's either power armor or daemons.
(Definitely need to dig out my real camera for any future pictures).
Nice job. Can I suggest taking final pics on a white/plain background with good lighting. I had to discount models last time from my voting because I couldn't see details in favour of the better photographed. Sell your mini as well as possible! :thumbs up:
Looks great AUG! You've stepped up the basing from last time, good job!
You know what would make that power sword look awesome...? Take a light blue, and lightly dry brush the top half of the sword. Make sure you get a lot of the paint off the brush before you start dry brushing. If you're feeling brave, you can do the plasma coils with the same method. You'll likely have to clean up the gun after the drybrush, but it's a small price to pay.
SJM - that is a cool cyboar and rider - the grenade in his mouth adds volumes to his character!
Zefig - love how the figure draws my eye away from what is essentially a basic SM bike, makes the bike what it is - a bit of transport for someone who's gonna do some damage
Love that cyboar, the greenstuff leg looks REALLY good too. Sculpting is something I struggle with so can really appreciate how much skill it takes.
The chainsword is mega. Love the feel of the bad ass biker stance, cant wait to see it finished.
Will post my next wip over the weekend, ordered some bits to help with this project as I needed more airbrush cleaner anyway. Dragon section is on hold till I get my shipment so might move onto some of the gems and other details while I wait.
That's my proof pic. I'll try not to fail this time. It's an 'Ard Ork Boy. He's furious because he's an Ork, and he's fast because I'll paint him somewhat red.
Here we go.
As I am in a rush this month, I had to hurry with my entry for this month.
I'm not really happy with him but it is the best I could do this time.
I'm looking forward to see all the great entries!
Good luck to everyone.
I have no clou why my pics are turned and not upright. Para, if you could fix that.
THX
im kinda too hot to be creative this month but im working on a hover bike, im sculpting the front vent, i keep messing it up
since it sort of fits im going to post pics of my progress and if im lucky i might be motivated to finish it
I've made some slow steady progress with my Ragik over the last few evenings, and aim to get properly started this weekend. I went for a more central position which required some creative drilling and milliput to get secure... the studio mini looks like it's missed the base by a few feet!
Kustomer D - love that model and the basing makes it look epic. Well done!
Arclaw - the pose for your mini makes it feel dynamic and definitely fast, "simple" alteration has made a huge difference
WiP time and a bit of a sorry WiP it is lol. These Ravenwing are a bit meh to paint. Just not getting into them but persevere I shall!! All that metl basing was dull as ...... a very dully thing. But it's done. Fiancee is moving in today so progress may be......delayed
Quick bit of WIP , just put down a bit of base coat and started on the base. Only just noticed that a big lump has broken off the front at some point! Have do a bit of battle damage/ weathering on the nose. Need to get some shading on next.
Anyone know why my pictures keep getting rotated 90* and how I can stop it happening?
The only thing I might have that could be considered fast and furious is a Samurai I end up throwing across the room when getting frustrated trying to paint lacing .
So, I'm in this month. Picked this mini up from a local game store, a friend of mine makes them. If it isn't very clear, it's a Gnome Cavalier riding on a schnauzer, I love it.
I'm still debating on if the model I had is the one I wanted to enter in this one. It was a Space Marine bike but I'm thinking I might want to put up something more wolfy... like Thunderwolf Cavalry or something... we'll see.
I think the 5 model cap is going to curb my style for this as there are 8 things... I'll see what I can get done and make some cuts before entering it, if necessary.
Space barbarians/raiders with their attack skiffs
I still need to add some scifi gubbins like grenades, holstered pistols/slung rifles, and maybe some goggles, monocles, or other scifi elements. Mantic them up, y'know.
Wanna come help organise over here? The fiancee just moved in and holy bejaysus there's a lot of clothes!!! The mancave/movies and painting room stands still and strong though lol
Oh I have been there! And my man cave was serupticiously taken away between house moves and children. I now have a painting tray and a TV with headphones not to disturb anyone
And the kicker of it all is that I wouldn't swap my family for the world - the cunning beggars!
You'll never win the clothes battle btw. I've got half the space she does and my friend has got his clothes in another room.

Not got any horsemen? Or even ninjas would do?

Very cool! Any gaming plans for them, or is this just for fun?
Like most of what I've been doing lately, these are pretty much just for fun. If they were used for anything it would probably have to be deadzone or something. Or a very *very* weird league for pulp alley.
Hi, can I get a general opinion from participants what they want me to do about the League table due following a slight issue being pointed out about extra votes being cast after the closing competition time?:
For league position, the rank is decided as follows to minimise ties:
1st - Number of points
2nd - Highest ever finished challenge rank
3rd - Number of challenges completed
Finally - If there are multiple users still after the above has been considered, then they are classed as tied at that rank
Ok, so there are a bunch of us that got 1% of the vote with 3 or 4 votes, (myself included) and are ranked into different groups...way down at the bottom. Could somebody explain how this is done? Or are these just sort of arbitrary for those of us that didn't place and don't have last month's under the belt?
Thanks for getting in touch, the difference with last month and this month was that this was the first month to have the option for multiple votes being cast. Last month you could only vote for one person, therefore most people all were at the same rank (11th), but there was more spread this month.
To talk you through the way it was worked out:
Anyone who entered this month for the first time (or had only entered last month) scored one point unless you were in top 3, so after you were grouped in together...
... Votes were considered
And you were ranked this month according to number of votes (not percentage). Using this rank you were organised in to an order in the spreadsheet...
...the next step is not relevant to the people with one point, because you would have only entered one challenge. But I then went through the list a third time to ensure that if there were ties on league points with people also tied on highest rank, I would allocate a higher league rank based on number of challenges completed. I can't imagine this step having much use until we get into month 6 or above.
As you can see from the screenshot above, there was every effort made to allocate April's rank based upon votes received. I hope this makes sense.
If anyone has comments about the league order please respond, Para and I agreed these steps to ensure fairness of achievement recognition. If you don't feel this is occurring then we can discuss possible other options. At the end of the day though it's meant to be a fun contest, the League is more to highlight who among the members is consistently good and consistently persistent in trying to better their painting skills.
On a side note - jah-Joshua's link is live
Schlyne wrote:Ok, but I see I have 4 votes instead of 3 whenever I look at the poll, and so does Zgecko666, KingmanHighborn.
This is what I see for votes whenever I look at the april thread. Did people vote after the time closed or something?
TP^DC Deputy Manager wrote:Ah, I see. Para mentioned this in the voting thread - somehow after the voting period closed more votes were cast and it's not clear how that was possible. I had gathered the data after the voting closed, but before these votes were cast. The process of ranking had already taken place which was all done by hand because amalgamating the two months data is not easy due to the highest rank element - I would have no idea how to include a formula to the spreadsheet to account for that.
I also manually encode the forum post so that the colours appear which is quite pain-staking, I had stated that I would not be able to include those extra votes due to this.
I will post in the current thread these posts to ask for consensus opinion, but this will take another 2-3 evenings to correct and technically the voting had finished when I gathered the data. If the leaning is for me to correct I will have to go back and do it. I'm not sure when I will have time though.
He's fast and furious! The new family member has taken over my painting time some what recently so no progress to report however I should have some of my ebay bits in shortly so will try and find some time and give you an update.
@TP: I said in the rules that the voting would run for 5 days, and I was at that point that I listed the winners/you collected the data, so that's when the poll should have ended.
I don't know why it was possible to keep voting after the deadline as I checked the timer was set for 5 days, but either way, that should have been the cutoff point, so I think what you've done is fine.
My friend posted on this competition last month and we have been discussing the post for a little while. Hes convinced me that it is a good way to keep motivated and learn different painting skills and I've believed him for some crazy reason, so I'd like to sign myself up as well although the thought of having my work judged is somewhat terrifying.
Since I'm an Ork player I'm going to try a little project that I've always wanted to do.
Base Images are below (I got it cheap off ebay the whole thing will be chopped up and repainted so don't worry about the paint already on there)
Time to go big or go home! This month, I'm going with Prince Althran on his Griffon, which is pretty damn fast and more than a little furious. Time to try out some NMM and other special effects...
Looks like I've got some time for painting so I'm going to get a Vulture done up and it's been on my shelf for a while. Picked up this guy 2nd hand so canopies were already painted over but as it was dirt cheap I can't complain. Again, going with flames on the Vulture (it's a phase) so it'll be distinct from my other guard flyers.
I how to your awesomeness. My daughter would love that!!!! I definitely do.

It's only thanks to Paradigm that I have painted anything regularly. Everyone here is supportive and constructive. The advice you get here will help you grow as a painter

Monsters would be okay with me, I've got a Daemon Prince and a Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage that need some paint (although the idea of trying to paint that thirster at my skill level is daunting ; that is one detailed model and I would want to do it justice).
A quick WIP update: I've fallen a bit behind with my entry (work and stuff makes me too tired to paint sometimes-welcome to real life I know!). I've finished the red basecoat for my raptors and have started painting the trim on them with Screaming Bell. Not ready to post pics of anything yet but when I make significant progress I will! BTW the color scheme I'm trying to do on these guys (and ultimately my entire KhorneKin army) is the Skullsworn warband from Codex: Khorne Daemonkin.
Ooh! I love the grey leopard spots on the griffin, Para!
Well, it's late in the month, but I'm gonna throw my hat in the ring. I ran out of hamsters, so it looks like I'm going to have to actually work on my 40k army now.
Here's my proof pic:
With those wings he's gonna be fast, and he looks pretty furious...
So here's a collection of WIP:
Top left is how I started last night - FW panels and conversion kit mostly applied. Top right is tank plus gunner (but wait, they aren't the moulded hatch legs that came with it I hear you scream!) Should have taken a pre cutting photo, but basically the other two photos show the right lower leg pinned and pelvis and left leg combination with right hip pinned.
And why did I butcher this poor troopers legs I hear you ask:
Yeah, that's why.
His pelvis and torso alignment is off, but I have modelled this myself and it is surprisingly an accurate tilt. He's just a furious (*hint*) little who likes to gun down anything even remotely close to his tank.
He's blu-tak'd together at the moment so I'll start gluing elements together quietly when I get chance. He'll obviously need a bit of green stuff on the leg joins.
I'm sure he's not the best "pose conversion" out there, but I am pretty happy with him. It also means I now know what my diorama would be for the contest - couple of dead orks in line with bolter and (if I can) a magnetised smoke cloud coming from the cannon (maybe).
Here is the proof photo for my entry (well, my brother's entry actually, but he doesn't want to go through making an account just to get feedback on one model).
A devilfish, scratch built from paper.
@Polecat - I forgot to say that I'm very excited to see what you do with that Tyranid - I've loved your hamster miniatures and they deserve honourable mention for being just outright cool.
@FearPeteySodesMade: I've been checking out your thread, I'm really looking forward to seeing your's painted up, I really like your colour scheme so far.
albinoorkMade: Pretty close to the funniest things I've seen all day , now make a chapter of them!
I worked on my bike canoness some more, finished up most of the modelling and got a couple basecoat colors on. I had a mishap while I was working though...
...My paints had settled over the last few years and I got a bit overzealous trying to squeeze out the Gory Red. Whoops. Luckily, it missed my mini.
So here she is, with a bit of color that's in dire need of cleaning up and detailing. She's been performing really well in the league so far, and even got me enough votes to win the prize for coolest character mini in the league!

It looks like the mishap was someone interrupted you during painting so you murdered them.

Really awesome work, dude, and an incredible turnaround time! Surely, though, finishing before the halfway stage obliges one to enter a second entry (I'm sure I read that in the small print somewhere)?

Spoiler:
...My paints had settled over the last few years and I got a bit overzealous trying to squeeze out the Gory Red. Whoops. Luckily, it missed my mini.
So here she is, with a bit of color that's in dire need of cleaning up and detailing. She's been performing really well in the league so far, and even got me enough votes to win the prize for coolest character mini in the league!
Looking awesome mate! I always knew Mark Corrigan would be on Dakka (I hope you've seen the UK series 'Peep Show')!

I considered doing up a companion piece (a Skaven warlord looking for a nice Griffon steak ), but technically with the 4 Skaven on the base I've used up my 5-model allowance! Can't go breaking my own rules!
Though the aforementioned additional Skaven/Elves will likely show up in my blog soon enough, I'm happy enough with the one piece for my entry.
Quick and crummy wip shot of the Ravenwhinge. They are actually a lot better looking and further along than the shot seems to show!!! Hard part is done, now on to the funner bits lol
I am soooo tempted to make an attempt at getting this done... If I hadn't slipped with the drill just now and have to resculpt the exhaustpipes on one of the bikes... hmm...

Drill mishaps are just the Emperor’s way of getting you do work more on your battle damage and weathering.
Major weathumg, chipping, scoring, blood smears on that front ... Thingy..... Soz- aunts just arrived in Korea. Bit tipsy. The front prow. Go to work on it TP
Only the main body of the Helbrute to do... And the base... Soon it will be done!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, here are the WIPs that I did. Mind you that these are quick shots, so when you zoom in the gallery they are somewhat blurry. I just need to do the "speedy" model that will perish in the Helbrutes claws (power fist), the back, and the base, and I'll be done!
Not exactly, but it's very nice! Might try something like that on another army. I'm hoping to make a blue cracked earth kinda larva effect with one of the GW technical paints.
Well, I've finally finished making the Cyboar mob, in the end I made the full 5. Hopefully I'll get some pictures on my blog tomorrow, realistically I will just get the 1 painted for the competition.
Some really inspiring stuff here, it's a real pleasure to look through!
Just finished the base off on my entry, now it just needs a little touch up here and there, some final assembly and then some decent photos and it is done. Almost there!
I dunno, love the sword but that face to me is the real winner. Super smooth and oozing character. Nice job, i'm going to have to pull out all the stops!
thanks guys. i think painting faces is my favourite part of the painting process. i rarely do helmeted models any more purely for that reason. and the sword was my first time using that layering effect to get the glow, using glazes also.
Looks good to me! Do you plan to add some weathering? It would really work on the larger surfaces!
Automatically Appended Next Post: On another note, I'll be putting up the next subject poll soon, and so far we have Monster and 3 Colour Maximum as options. To add to those I need one 'theme' and one 'wild card' subject, any ideas?

Not had a chance to keep up with every bodies work, briefly scrolling down there are some very nice models already!
Puppy has reduced paint time to maybe an hour a day at most. Now that I'm getting him ready for when I go to work next week I get a few hours in the afternoon where I can get things done, today that has been catching up on my WS!
Dragon has got some flames and I have added in a background glyph/rune to help draw the viewers eye from the dragon over to the other side where it will have some more traditional Eldar zigzaggy things (no idea what they are actually called!)
Amazing work on your entries, everyone. The top spot is going to be highly contested I am sure.
Finished assembly today, so I thought I would post this rough picture taken with my phone. It is too dark here to get a good set of pictures with the camera, so once the light improves I will get my final entry shots.

Slow and Purposeful.
Hmm, that like!
@Januine: non-humanoids would basically be covered by monsters.
I also came up with the idea of something 'iconic'; you must basically try and sum up the faction/army in the composition of that mini. It could be as simple as choosing the mini that got you in to an army, or as detailed as building a full diorama base and special effects galore.
So we have
Monster
Slow and Purposeful
Icon
Three Colour Maximum
Well, I was at my FLGS playing a friendly game of 40k, my first using the Daemonkin codex, having fun, and then this happened:
Ok, this was taken after I got home, but long story short: some stupid old man walked past my bag and knocked it over, spilling my miniatures all over the place. Worse, he didn't even seem to notice anything had happened and just walked out of the store (without even apologizing). I had a good mind to go yell in his face and force him to apologize (or even punch him), but the Christian side of me won out and I mercifully let him go. Anyway, as you might notice, the only casualties were the Raptors I've been working on for the monthly challenge (they had already died in the game and so were in the bag). That, I suppose, is the final nail in the coffin of getting them done in time . I will be doing some Flesh Hounds of Khorne instead, so I will post a proof pic sometime tomorrow (local time). I think I can work faster on the Hounds, not as many small details!
Ok, here is the proof pic of my Khorne Flesh Hounds, as promised:
These are the old metal ones, I got them on eBay about a month ago. I wish I had just started with them for the competition instead of trying to do the Raptors. 11 days to fully paint them, wish me luck! If it looks like I'm not gonna make it, I may just end up putting a couple of them in my final entry pics. I hope that's okay.
I am finished, and the final photos have now been taken:
I would like to say thank you to Paradigm for running the challenge as well as accepting my entry, and as a result motivating me to get one of these guys finished after over a year sitting on the shelf.
I will definitely be back to take up next months challenge, whatever that ends up being.
Well done Jan, your fiancé clearly is more understanding than mine was at the time! She's a keeper. I should probably point out at this juncture that the reason my wife was stressed pre-wedding is that I got dumped with 4 night shifts finishing 24 hours prior to our wedding day - any time I had sore was for sleep and wedding prep. (Eating was a low priority )
Despite having a rip roaring start to the month, my work rate came to a grinding halt and I've barely got anything done this week. All my Nobz + the Painboy are base coated, washed and have had their skin done. I usually have trouble motivating myself from here on in so we'll see...
To give you all an idea I where I'm at:
Good luck getting all your finishing touches done, everyone!
Coming along really nicely! I'm always envious of those who can really capture that orky feel in their conversion and paintwork, and you certainly can!
I've been pretty busy this month, so I don't know if I'll get my ork battlewagon in for proofs and finish work or just paint up some hormgaunts. We'll see how it goes.
Have an exalt, dude! When I first saw the Eversor assassin in WD, I thought it was my least favorite one of the four. I thought the skull face thing was just silly, but what you've done with it is pure genius! Now you just need to make a Space Marine Captain America, complete with a familiar looking counts-as storm shield...
Anyway, WIP time! I've made quite a bit of headway on the flesh hounds, here's a couple of pics:
Spoiler:
As you can see, I've painted the skin, fur, and claws (man, that's a lot more spikes than I thought before I started painting. I still have to do the metal collars and some small details, then it'll be time for some shading, Duncan Rhodes style! I love everybody's entries that I've seen so far, in particular the Buzz Lightyear space marine and the aforementioned Red Skull assassin. Should be a pretty good competition this month when all's said and done!
