Time to add (another!) P&M plog!! My (supercrazykoreanfast) latest order from Orctown (the ONLY shop over here that caters for GW plastic crack) arrived at lunchtime today. Living here 10 years and I still can't get over how fast companies deliver. I ordered Thursday night on the shop's website and the box of goodies arrived just after lunchtime today (Sat). Now that's some quality service! Anyways - loving all the new AdMech stuff that GW has been putting out and been wanting to get all painty painty on some of it so bought the Sydonian Dragoon a few weeks ago (still havent gotten around to that yet ) and ordered up some more stuff as well. Will be getting more along the line but for now I have a ton to be getting on with. This lot doesnt really (at all) fit in either of the 2 other plogs I'm doing so....new plog it must be!!
Am thinking of making up my own ForgeWorld for the AdMech stuff and painting the Knight as a Freeblade - more Imp than AM but still linked to said Forge World. Will make some nice juicy fluff up for the lot along the way of course
I feel like this blog needs a movie trailer-style voiceover:
"First, he did Chaos and Dark Angels, and it was epic... *bzzzzmmmm* Then, he did Eldar, and it was even better... Now... *bzzzmmmmm* He's doing fething AdMech... Prepare for awesomeness!"

Can't wait to see what you do with this stuff!
Hahaahaahaaaaa - nice!!!! The knight is seriously gonna rock. Freeblade I'm reckoning. The build starts soon
Ooooooh! Wish I had that box to open. And Para is right - it needs a theme. The end would have to include a knight stomping many many little minis painted to a lower standard by munchkins like me
That's the knight built for the most part. All weapons fully magnetised. Will post some construction and magnetising pics later. This guy is gonna take some painting!!!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh - the voting is up for Paradigm's may painting comp. get yourselves over and check out the entries - some seriously sweet work gone into the entries this month again. Have a look and drop a few votes - you know it makes sense
Good stuff! This new Knight kit with all the weapons is certainly a very versatile chunk of plastic; if I a) didn't have a Dreamforge Leviathan and b) had a bigger budget right now, I'd be very tempted by one! Have you magnetised the face masks as well?
Cheers for the challenge plug; things are insanely close with two days left, there's easily half a dozen entries still fighting for the top three spots! There's about 16 votes out of 300+ covering the top six or seven last I checked, which tells you all you need to know about the quality on show!
On another note, I can't help but think that Wraithlord needs a diorama base! Any plans for that?
@Para - oh yes - the wraithlord needs and will be getting a wee dio of her own in the mear future
@Fearpeteysodes - cheers man. Yeah - seriously lovely model. cant wait to get painty on it. got some ideas already and a paint/freeblade scheme in mind. watch this space lol
Well, that's the primary building all done and ready for the paint. All weapons magnetised and even a change of faces for the big fella!!! And this kiddies is why we use primer from a can!!!! That is one serious amount of bits right there!!! Gonna be a (loooonnngg) blast to paint!!!!
nice progress mate! i've been eyeing the GW Admech but ... can't really afford it now. Plus, i went with a preheresy army, so now any mechanicus should be from forgeworld i guess .
but at the moment i'm not playing, just painting - though i want to get started on the rules.
so probable a small GW army won't be off the books, i absolutely love the Dominus tech priest + the Electro Priests, so i'll be watching this one closely.
Just throwing up a few snaps of the magnets I used. Little ickle 3mm babies for mask and top carapace weapons, 6mm for the arm weapons and monster 15mm specials for the main body to legs connection. The 15mm have a concave hollow on one side which is perfect for allowing the pillar on top of the pelvis joint to fit snugly into place.
Well that's all the spraying done!! Crikey. All laid out there's a serious amount of kit for this fig. One of the best value kits going imho.
Gonna back burner the big fella for a big so can get busy with my Chosen for this month's comp
haha - cheers. Gonna be a bit slow at first as have a load of other stuff demanding paint too. Have a colour scheme in mind though. Just need to get a faux marble technique down first!!! Here's a few wee ideas been working on for the Knight's heraldry too
Hey, looking good so far, I've been thinking about getting one of these new knights but keep putting it off. I am sure in your hands it will turn out great. I like the way you are going with the heraldry, how about a couple of lightning bolts coming out of the bottom of the helmet?
really REALLY rec/mnd you get one CB - one of the best kits around. For hte amount of work and hobbying that goes into it - bloody great value imho. the lightning bolts are actually going to be part of his brother's heraldry who fell to Chaos but don't want to give too much away yet
Oh man I can't wait to see how this baby turns out man. Those sketches you drew look like a great start and this is the part of model building when my mind is going crazy with ideas and colour schemes, Cant wait to see some paint on that bad boy.
Cheers Redflex. Now that I've finished doing The Chosen diorama for Para's monthly comp - next up is some admech and freeblade action. Got a nice dark moody scheme planned for the Dragoon that's been waiting patiently and time to tackle that Freeblade too - stay tuned
Finally got a decent start made on my dragoon from the forge world of Achlys III. Going for a nice dark scheme to echo its being a planet almost constantly in twilight.
Dragoon is coming along nicely. Blue tinted steel isn't showing up as well as it is in the photo but hey ho really happy with the scheme. Nice and dark and grimy. None of that bright clean stuff I've never really been convinced quite fits the admech. Need to highlight the brass a touch and add more shades to increase the depth. Then some grime and weathering. C&c always welcome
Cheers Para. There'll be a blue glow coming out of the bit under the exhaust as well. The rider's coat will the same grey as the armour plates on the outside and then a lining will be a dark blue to echo the blued steel....which doesnt bloody show in the wip photo >< Defintiely gonna pick up a box of sicarans this weekend
Ung. Bit of a bright happy blue that. I gave it a ew thinned washes of drak nightshade and it's worked lovely irl just hasn't shown up well in the iPad photo. No worries
Loads done this weekend ......ahem......~ish....... Ahem. Lol Dragoon is nearly done. Got the main machine based up and just needs the weathering. Rider is nearly ready too. Happy with the base. Went for a kinda dark dry scorched earth job. Will tie in with the fluff for the forgeworld I made up (Achlys Tertius) which will in turn tie in with the the backstory for the knight that I'm (sloooowly) working on. Anyways - here's a wee WiP. Cheers
The dragoon is looking good, I really like the colour scheme you have gone with, it's a bold choice going so dark but I think if you get it right, it works well.
Cheers CB. Wanted to go all dark and gloomy. Just kinda hits the ideas/images I've had of the AdMech better than having them all clean bright reds n creams. Think I'll (eventually) build up a whole AdMech force from this forgeworld. May skip on the Nannybots though until I figure out a good conversion fix for them. The Freeblade knight will fit in but contrast nicely with the force too I reckon
Dragoon is all done. Loving the spindly legged fella. Photos tomorrow. Need to break out the camera and lights and after a couple of brews ...... Not gonna happen the night ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Back painting the harlies now for this months comp but had to take a wee break to clip, clean and dry fit this fella. He. Is. Awesome. If you haven't picked one up. Get one!!!!!! Without a doubt my fig/sculpt of the year. The details and concept behind him is just beautiful. Can't wait to get busy on him.
Cheers Stormwall Lotta stuff coming up in this one over the next while.....skits, dominus and of course the freeblade (which I really gotta get back to). Really happy with the colour scheme. Downloaded the AdMech codices and ....just really wasn't feeling any of the colur schemes.....just didnt sit right with what I'd always had in mind of the cogboys. Solution - make my own forgeworld and colour scheme. Looking forward to putting it down on a squad of skits now
There we - got the camera and some new lights I got up and running this morning and finally got the Dragoon photo'd. Repainted the lance first though; I'd gone with another mode at first but it was kinda bugging me so I redid it. Much happier now!! Overall - soooooo happy with this guy! Anyways - here's the snaps, hope you like him and my new copy of Space Hulk has just been delivered so i'm off to tear that open and feast on all it's lovely Hulky glory lol
Thx verymuch folks very happy withthe end result. looking forward to growing this wee admech contingent. Lance is defintely better now that what i had before. less is sometimes defintely more
Stunning! I'm amazed at how you can paint so many styles so well; I'd never guess that someone who painted a mini as clean and smooth as your Eldar stuff could do just as good a job with dirty, gritty, subdued AdMech.
And now Space Hulk, possibly the best minis ever committed to plastic...
Cheers Para Trying to catch up on a lot of diff techniques and stuff as I just got back into it last December. Each new fig I do I try and focus on something else I need to practice/learn/get right etc etc. Seems to be working out ok lol The Space Hulk figs are unreal. Seriously gorgeous stuff. Knock the socks off the 1st edition figs that I had many many moons ago. Too much plastic crack in my house!!!!!!!!
Cheers hk - really really looking forward to getting on to him and his ranger bodyguard. GW really came up with the goods with these admech sculpts. Not 100% on the kastelans though..lol. That Dominus though - he's gonna be a treat to paint Harlies first though ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
The finished dragoon looks great, I love the dark blue screens and the blue power cells, they compliment the grey and the atmosphere very nicely. Looking forward to see what you do with the magos.
Cheers CB. Looking foward to getting onto the Magos too. Few other things up first. Spent the whole weekedn clipping, trimming and building all the Space Hulk figs! Lot of 'em. Lovely figs, even for blood angels lol
Probably (yet another) new plog as I like 'trying' to keep things organised (ha). Have a colour scheme pretty much figured out for the stealers so will prbably get a test model done soonish. The 'stealers from the boxed set are fantastic - all the bits of scenery they're clinging to and the poses and that. stunning stuff. really beat the 1st ed stuff to ribbons! So much stuff to get busy on now. 'Least I finally made a start on the harlies for this months comp. They're main priority now. Next month is gonna be really AdMech though - more on the Freeblade, start the techpriest and the squad of skitarii I (shouldn't really have) bought!!!! The only thing worse than having too much plastic crack, is not having any at all!! Pretty sure that was Oscar Wilde (ahem...cough, cough )
ta very much fella. wanted that nice dark grey barren landscape kinda colour scheme. His forgeworld is in eternal twilight, hence the blue colour to the inside of the robes while the landscape is a barren grey husk which they show in their outer robes and machines armour plates. Makign up some fluff for that forgeworld at the mo. Will eventually have a whole admech contingent done up in the same scheme....eventually...... lol
Back home in Ireland after a lovely week in Italy for the honeymoon. And what's awaiting when I get home but this lovely little bundle of goodies. Kastellax with the coolest blades ever! Can't wait to get back to Korea and get all painty painty on the las. The detail of gorgeous and I'm damned if I can find a single air bubble. Good show for my first ever FW resin fig
Cheers fella. was really happy how the dragoon turned out. Got some weathering powders with the Castellax, so I'll add a bit to that dragoon too. That'll be the colour scheme for all the admech I'm planning on doing. The new GW stuff is lush and FW has some gorgeous figs too for it. My wallet shudders at the thought!!!
So back safe and sound and getting stuck back in. First up is the tech priest dominus for para's comp. got him all pinned and managed to spray him last night when the humidity dropped. Italy was hotter than here but the Korean humidity just blows chunks ><
Also unpacked and scrubbed my new FW castellax in dish soap after soaking him for a night. Will undercoat with chaos black once he's all trimmed and cleaned up. First resin fig ever so kinda trepidatious about how to proceed ...... Any resin advice very welcome.
Both of these guys are getting done in the Achlys 3 scheme I used for the sydonian dragoon.
Well thanks to a bout of insomnia the castellax is all scrubbed (like 4 times), trimmed, sub-built and pinned. Sweet sweet fig this one but damn I hate ball joints!!! Wasn't massively keen on the shoulder melta he comes with so a bit of cut, ion and glue and now he's sporting the latest in Zappy zap guns instead. Totally can't remember the proper name for it but it was the spare gun that came with the dominus. Looks much better now I reckon. Now if the humidity would sod off I can get his base coat sprayed on and let the painty painty begin
Woke up at stupid'o'clock again this morning so got a wee bit more done on the dominus' metalwork. Getting there. Liking how it's looking and fits well with the dragoon
Cheers man. Metals are pretty much done now and well hapy with them. Just need final light point highights. Just spent 5 hours painting his robes.......sheeeeessshhh. Delighted with them. Such an awesome fig to paint. Defintiely GW's fig of the year so far I reckon
Thx to a few nights of lovely insomnia, I've been getting a fair bit of paint down. Tackled and finished the dominus' robes yesterday. 5 hours of grey. Worked out as the 9 shades of grey lol. Came out well though
Magos is looking nice, the colour scheme is translating onto this really well, even has a hint of dark Mechanicus about it, purely down to the pallet though.
Final WIP of the castellax. Really fun fig to paint. Tempted to get a few more. So far the only flaw I found was a single tiny air bubble. Guess FW have upped their resin game!!! The gun is not the original. I didn't really like the old fashioned melta so snipped off the barrels and pinned on the extra gun from the dominus model.
That's these two just about done. Need to weather them and then it's onto the bases and a wee dio which I'm totally stumped on :(
Oh crap - still need to finish the flasks too.
ah - must be the photo. The photos off the ipad are wrecking my head. Perfectly sharp on the ipad and then blurry as sacra juiced guardsman when I upload them here ><
Cheers lads. Very very happy with how the admech stuff is coming along. Need to do a squad next rather than just the bigger single figs.
@Warkitten - you should pick up a dominus anyways. He's an awesome fig to paint. beautiful sculpted and detailed. A clampack that is actually worth the extra cash they cost. Make sure to paint him in pieces though; some areas are nigh on impossible to reach otherwise!
Next from the men of machines........really need to get that knight under the paint
Big Bad Dom and Cas are pretty much done barring the weathering. Need to start looking at building there dio. Could not for the life of me come up with a decent idea - finally something clicked. Excuse the crappy undecypherable drawings. They make sense to my oddly functioning mind (tis a top down plan and handy for laying bitz out on and for gauging measurements, layout et al). Plan laid, some materials bought, except for thebloody 3mm foamboard which I forgot to get yesterday and on we go. First up snippy snippy and start laying out the gantry that Dom will be standing on. I had a sprue clearout a while back and now when I need some ......I'm all out!!!! Have had to carefully snip bts of sprue off my as yet unbuilt, untouched box of skitarii rangers lol. If all goes acc to plan.....should look pretty sweet. Same colour scheme/background as what I did on the Dragoon's base a few months back. C&C as ever ALWAYS welcome, appreciated, venerated
Starting to make a bit progress. Dio base cut, stuck and edges sanded and the gantry is made. Needs a little more filing/sanding once the GS is dry in the morning. Love seeing it start to come together
What a waste of coffee! No, but really, my rule i any admech is good admech, but this is great admech! I tried gray and it can be difficult to pull off without looking unpainted. You most definitely pull it off, and for that I am subbed as hell.
Thx very much glad you like it. Grey just seemed a better choice for me as an admech scheme. Not really taken with the brighter schemes. Doesn't quite for them imho
I definitely agree. I went for black with red highlights on the cloak, just to give them a touch o' traditional. Also, will you be using castellax's instead of kastelans for the whole army?
GW Paints: Mech Stan Grey for the base over black primer. 2-3 very thin layers. 2 diluted nuln oil washes. For the light/ towards highlights - approx 6-8 layers with feathering going from Eshin Grey >>> Dawnstone but never quite getting to pure dawnstone. I think I put a really diluted nuln wash on halfway through the layers. Finally a very diluted eshin grey/nuln glaze to bring it all together
This is looking promising. I really like the way that you create diorama bases for all of your models so as to turn them into display pieces for the shelf as well as excellent gaming models.
Cheers Az. The dios are really (usually ) fun to think up and make but the real reason I like doing them is (I think) they add context and even a wee bit of story to the figs....usually the story that seems to grow in my head whilst painting the figs.
you can go that way too. gives a nice rough effect. Layers work better if youre wanting a smoother finish. Once you get into the swing of it, it's a quick enough process; as you move onto another area the previous area is drying.
Finally all done!!! I'm exhausted!! Here's the finished result. I have a few more WiP photos which I'll post tomoro~ish lol.
For now - here's the boys - hope ye like 'em. I really had a blast with this one
I've been silently following this one develop, and i'm left without words. Your paint scheme is really outstanding, and while i started gluing my Dominus as well, i envy your patience. How many layers of grey, again ?!?
The diorama really adds a lot to the models, and the rust fits just great. Once again, congrats, looking forward tomwhat you've got next in store
Thanks very much folks. Really apprieciate the comments. I think it worked out at about 10 or 11 shades of grey if we count each layer as a shade! This one was really fun to do. Two stunning sculpts. Loved doing the old rusted gantry as it was also my first time using weathering powders. They can get everywhere and for the love of all - don't blow on them as I found out ><
Thx again for looking and the comments - great start to the day

I know it's kinda after the fact but I wanted to pop up the WiP photos of the Dio that I just finished. One or two of them are already here earlier in this plog but hey-ho just want to put them altoghet for anyone who's interested
I should add that the base and the ganrty were painted separetly and then put together at the very end. Also the whole thing was given about 3-4 coats of watered down PVA glue to seal both the cork (which it kinda does) but more importantly the edges of the 3mm foamboard. Without that seal the spray paint eats into the exposed foam and looks kinda gak when you paint it. Anyways, any questions please ask away
Thx but I wouldnt quite say I'm that good yet. Working on it lol
The mesh is jsut some metal stamped mesh I bought in a local arts'n'crafts shop. Comes in sheets about A4 size. It wasn't exactly the type I was looking for but it worked pretty well. Bit of an ass to cut though

Thanks LeCacty but I still consider myself very much a WiP. I spend a ridiculous amount of time at work everyday watching painting videos and the like lol

Really love your take on the Robot and Handler, the grey works so well.
I really, really like scenic bases that you do (across all of your work); they really make the models stand out for display purposes and I like how you make them removable for more practical gaming purposes.
Hey there fella - Thx so much. That really means a lot With my admech I wanted to do my own colour scheme; more along the lines of how I'd imagined them for years of reading the books n fluff.
When I started back painting again last Decemeber with the DV boxed set I immediately wanted to make wee scenic bases and the like to show the figs in context...kinda like a little snapshot of their world if that makes any sense. I don't actually game....it's nt really a big thing out here in Korea and the nearest place (read 'only' that I know of) is over an hour away and a bit of a hassle to get to. Still......I wanted to make the figs fully removable so they could be use in game or even switched out so other figs could be put into the dioramas. It's a total learn as you go along process making those dios but damn but I love doing it!!!!!!!
Couldn't help myself but also buy the dark elder haemonculus too. Always loved that fig. The clampacks are my one and only gripe with GW pricing but...... I know I'm going to really love painting him so feth it ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Automatically Appended Next Post: up earliesh this morning. wife still sound to the world...think I'll start ths lovely saturday with a little kataphronic conversioning
Thx very much all. Am really happy witht he grey scheme. The kataphrons wil be done the same way. One of them will have a little something extra built on behind him hence the reversed tracks to allow some extra room

Oh yes. I have a box of skits just waiting to be built and painted to add...... more 30 mechanicum.....FW stuff is nextto impossible for me to get out here. HOWEVER, the mother is coming to visit at christmas so I may order and have her bring the stuff over.
Defintely want one of the thanatar class automata and maybe the sycllax guardians as well...
@LeCacty - do you mean one of the Sydonian Dragoons? Already did one. Look back. I used it as a test subject for the paint scheme. Absolutely love that model despite it having like a billion pieces for the build. Trickiest wee fether ever to put together bt so worth it lol

really? It was a tough build but i realy enjoyed it. I painted it in about 5 subassemblies though i think so was nice to see it slowly come together bit by bit. Those pipes that conect from the inside of the legs to the main engine though.......those pipes can seriouslty feth right off though!!!
So, getting FW stuff while living outhere in Korea is a bit of a nightmare. Free shipping on orders over 100quid 'till the end of september is pretty delicious until Korean customs are considered as they charge a ridiculous import tax on anything coing in over the value of.........yup......100quid. After finishin my first ever FW/resin fig (the Castelax automata) I have been left hungry for some more FW deliciousness. Watching the Beasts Of War unboxing videos has really not helped the 'no I dont really need any of this stuff' cause. I WANT IT ALL!!! However, the mother is coming over to Korea for Christmas and so I see a way of getting some resi-crack!! I love their chaos renegades stuff - really rings a bell as I'm re-reading all the Gaunt's Ghosts novels and love how much we can see of Chaos beyond the usual 'CSM - now with extra spikes' stuff. So thinking of some of that - plus I want some more Mechanicum of course which'll serve nicely as some venerated relics for my 40K AdMech force as 'LostChild' currently is. I'm gonna try and keep my order to just over 100quid (bwhahahahahahahhahahahahaha- so not gonna happen!!!) but any suggestions folks? What do you reckon I should get? What's your fav bits of FW stuff thatyou reckon everyone should have in their collection?
Warlord....nah. However, after watching the Warhound unboxing vid I did nearly talk myself into ordering a Chaos WH Titan!! Primarch.......not just yet. Love those Chaos Orgyns though and the Enforcers too
Dude. No. That's not fair. I was expecting to steal the show with my Mechanicus. And now you're back
That said, and jokes aside - if you manage to pull off the same grey scheme on those, they'll look grand. Maybe a bit of blue glow for the weapons and we'd have a winner
First part of the kataphron conversion sorted. Chasis reversed and part of the undercarriage built up. Servitor is magnetised in place tricky part done......ish
Cheers Bash. Getting that bit under the nosed filled and sorted was an absolute pain due to the size and awkward shape. Next bit should be a breeeze though....I hope lol
Here we go folks. A wee WiP of my command conveyor kataphron (there's a name that needs work ). The platform is totally removable and will allow for a siege weapon component (which I'll build.........yeah, at some point ) to be mounted. The servitor and the platform can swivel and JUST miss each other which was a feth of a gaklord to get sorted but hey ho there we go!!! Happy so far. Still need to smooth down some bits and tidy up. All good??
Yeah - been thinking about a rail or guard of some sort. Just need to figure out the hows. Space is tight as the dominus is meant to be able to ride up there too. I'll figure something.
All the scraps should make for some nice rusty basing detritus
Automatically Appended Next Post: So, an ork, a hobbit and a tech-priest walk into a bar. The ork orders 1 ale, the hobbit has none...and the tech-priest is just confused
Januine wrote: Yeah - gonna put up some rail or something or other. just trying to figure how to buld a convincing one that doesnt look too scrappy
Disclaimer: I’m not very good at scratchbuilding
Could you put together something that looks like pipework? Take some slightly wider cylinders, cut them to make joins, drill them like gun barrels, and fit smaller pipes/wires in to make a structure. Might take some greenstuff work to get decent “T” joins. Cut at an angle to make bent joins if you need to navigate a corner.
Cheers Nevelon. Yeah...this converting/sctarch building stuff is kinda new for me. I've got 2 gauges off fine plastic piping that I'll see what I can do with. Getting a matching rounded front rail for the front of the platform is gonna be tricky. I'll come up with something
Cheers man. That's knda what I had in mind when I was planning. The platform is magnetised so can be lifted off leaving a central post which could then have a weapons array loaded on instead.

*the tech priest applies the sacred oils to the bar and apologizes to the Omnissiah.
Cheers Zambro. Here's the finished conversion. Calling this guy done. The dominus I finished can also fit on the platform. Eventually I'll build some weapon like a helix pattern plasma mortar as an alternative load to the platform. Really happy how it's turned out. Very very fiddly conversion though lol
I love you Forgeworld,
I hate you Forgeworld,
I love you Forgeworld!!!
Nice 'wee' order put in and I managed to avoid buying a Chaos Warhound! Won't get my stuff till Christmas but I can wait (no, I really can't!!) Lovely stuff will be coming to this plog soon....ish
God-Emperor damn it Januine, I'd nearly got to 24hrs without seeing a minion. You ninja bastard.
A friend is asking me to build his Warhound, if you like, I can drop you a non purchase justifying note on how good/bad that process actually is when I get there. I'm anticipating a lot of water-baths.
Hahaaaha - been eyeing up the Chaos Warhound. Beautiful beast that it is. Will get one eventually.......for now I'm happy with all the Mech stuff I just got
The tau titan is out! MWAHAHAHA
But we dont talk about those fishfeths on this thread, hail the omnissiah! So what'd ya get? what'd ya get? WHAT'D YA GET!?
Ah, Hector! Love that model and the Blanche-esque guys he comes with! And Servo-skulls with the right detail are surprisingly fun to paint! Very little margin for error, but a nice challenge because of it!
aye. been wanting to get some inquisition stuff i can then add to. saw hector when looking for something else. gorgeous fig and he'll tie in nicely with the fluff for my forgeworld &freeblade. 3 months to wait though :(
I've got from them before. The long wait is not forgeworld's doing. actually they just emailed me and said my order has been dispatached. I've had to have it sent to my home in Ireland and my Mum will bring it over when she visits. Can't have forgeworld send stuff to me here as anything sent over 80GBP gets hit by korean customs with 25-30% import tax ><
Out of all the things on that list, the Thanatar is what I'm looking forward to seeing you paint up. I think it's one of the nicest looking mechanicum kits forgeworld does.
agreed hk - it's a really lovely looking beast. Have had my eye on one for a while. Couldnt decide b/t the standard and the calix variant. The Castellax I painted was a kind of a test run for his bigger brother who's now on his way
yeh- to put it mildly. and thats for stuff which is intended/considered for personal use. The ceiling is way way too low. I mean....80quid???? If your getting something sent in from abroad incl postage - 80 notes doesnt get you much at all. Oh postage is considered part of the value of the product!!! Thankfully for GW stuff, there is a flgs about an hour away.....the one and only in Korea that stcoks GW!!!!
Well that was a metal day done. Got 'Orphan's Wrath's metalwork pretty much done and worn. Dirty up and add some grime in the morning. I'm knackered!!!
That must've taken a while! Looks smashing though!
I'm not sure I could survive doing that much metal in one go, that's probably why my Leviathan never got any paint (that and my inability to decide on a scheme or use an airbrush).
yeah....best part of the day on and off. bases, washes, layers, dry brush, more washes, more .......still. I knew how I wanted it and went for it. Am very glad to be finished with the main metals though......well.......except for the arms/weapons lol
That's awesome. It makes such a difference when people go to the effort of incorporating different metals into the skeleton rather than just a single metal. Looking forward to see the next step.
Another quality dat of painting. Balls - back to work tomoro. Got the knight's head finished and made a start on his head armour and one of his face plates. He's beginning to get his kit on utterly horrible lighting for the shots but hey ho
Cheers Rygnam. Aye - first time ever trying out a marble effect so was a bit unsure of it. Rest of the armour will be mostly marble with a few slate blue panels to connect him to the admech forgeworld of the other guys I've been doing. Knight is coming along though. Lovely model. Gonna take a while to finish though lol
I'd forgotten you were planning marble on that chap! Now I recall you mentioning it ages back, and thinking how awesome it would look, and yep, it does!
Thx Para. Been putting it off for waaaay too long so bit the bullet today. And I'd just realised how many armour plates/panels these knights have o.O.....crap!
Thx everyone. Means a lot This guy is gonna be a beast when done (I hope - lol) Love all the admech stuff- so had to make mu own fluff and forgeworld for all the awesome stuff they've got. Knight is the biggest thing I've taken on yet. Have a Thanatar arriving in December too along with some other stuff.
So the greyish, weathered tones? I think a whole army in marble would be epic. Either the metals as marble or the armor. I may have to do a few models like that for fun and SCIENCE!
@Bottle - ehhmm....get back to me once I've done a little more!! Havent done this effect before so still kinda feeling my way through it. Simple palette and don't overdo it so far. Very very thinned paints too
@LeCacty - This guy is a FreeBlade so onlly he is getting the marble. Not sure if marble would work too well on a whole admech army....not sure if it really fits them. but a force of Grey Knights might look really cool with it. SoB force also
Slow to the party but the knight is coming together really well. I think the mix of metals on the skeleton looks really well as previously said. Adds an additional level of detail under the armour.
The marble effect looks great on the head. Looking forward to seeing it on the larger sections. Now your idea of a marble armour on SoB is a very interesting idea.....
That marble does look stunning, it will look doubly excellent on the larger shoulder and shin plates. I do not envy the time it will take to do it though as I assume it takes a while. To that end how long did the face plate take and what processes are involved? Thanks.
Lot of planning an thinking before i did the metals. There's so much detail and workings in the skeleton of the beast, reackined it deserved some decent treatment too.
Always thought some marbled pauldrons would suit the SoB pretty well. Nice cold white marble maybe.
I thought the marble would take much longer than it did. It wasnt the quickest thing to do but still not so long that it becomes a task. All in all, I think the two pieces I did above took maybe 45 mins. As it was the first time I was going pretty slow so hopefully as I get better at it, it'll come a little quicker. Hope so - I laid out all the plates and armour panels that need to be done and ......welll......there's a lot!!
I was shocked by the amount too with my Knight, and considering you have magnetised him you have a good few more armour plates to paint. Glad to hear that it was not too painful a process, the metals certainly look like a labour of love too.Good luck with the rest of the painting.
GW should give you commission as I want to buy another Knight now
Home from work figured I'd get a start on a few more armour panels. Still feeling my way through this marble effect so I'll leave the biggest plates till last. First couple of base coats done on the leg plates done for now.
I will indeed do one Para.....later.....when I'm actually 100% sure what it is I'm actually doing!!!! Think I have it pretty much sorted...in my head....now....ish!! I'll do a wee step by step when I get to the shoulder plates as they're nice and big (hopefully) will be easier to show on
Cool, thanks! I know there was something in my to-do pile that I wanted to play with marble effects on, but I can't think for the life of my what it is now... Still, looking forward to the tutorial, at least I can reference it when I do remember!
I am putting the Robute Guilliman primarch from forgeworld together and would love a marble tutorial to rip off and use on the base. Eagerly awaiting some advice.
In the works Archer, in the works In the interim though - Ben thingymajig from Painting Budda does a tutorial on painting the marble staircase of the Horus fig that might be of use to you. It's up on YouTube
Quick n crappy WiP shot of the latest marble progress. Base coats, wet on wet streaking, sponging and now seam lines pencilled in. Looks pretty dark at the mo but it all gets lightened up after the seam lines are finished.
cheers folks going over the pencil lines with seraphim sepia took.... a while!! Come on down W&N S7 #1 brush!! begining to look good now. hopefully get these panels finished today after work....hopefully
The White Warden? Nope. Doing a kinda Greek scheme for this guy, hence the marble. His personal symbol will be a trident and helmet with laurels. Balls - gonna have to go and google this warden chap now
.....
.....
oh cocksnot - he has a helmet too. Well, not changing my plans now ><
Cheers LeC. It will be lightened up with the final layers but the darker veins and staining will show through. Need that subtle variety of 'other' colours to make it look .....well....marble-y!!
Next step done. All the pencilled seam lines are traced over with seraphim sepia and then where they intersect or have a strong point are gone over again with thinned dark brown mixed with sepia. Phew. S7 you really came into your own there!! Next comes the lightening so they'll look like the mask and crown plate. Think I'll leave that till tomoro. 3 hours of fine line work is enough for tonight lol
Marble is coming along. Hopefully get it finished up (well the plates that I've started so far) this weekend. Realised I've totally lost the page I did all design doodles for the knight on so had to start over on another page. It's fine though as kinda changed a few ideas around in the interim. Anyhow - here's what's gonna be coming once I get to move onto decorating the big fella
Interesting stuff, the Grecian look should suit the marble a lot, and I love that split helm design for the banner! Any colours in mind? I think a nice jet black would work for the leaf patterns, maybe a dark brown?
the secondary colour is a dark twilight blue (same one as my admech lot use as their secondary colour) the laurel leaves....I havent decided on yet whether to do them silhouette or actually coloured.....the freehand stuff is a wee bit away yet though. still got a lot of marble to do!! firstbatch of marble is done now and blocking the metal trim and blue bits now in black base coat
Wife's away today so got a ton of work done. First batch of armour panels are nearly sorted. Metals just need their top brass layer and the blue stripes need some highlighting. Did the superstructure struts in grey to break up all that endless metal a bit. Getting there
Takes a bit of doing and research beforehand but defintely doable and worth it in the end. I probbaly should have picked a slightly smaller fig to try it out on for the first time than a knight but there we go
Januine wrote: Takes a bit of doing and research beforehand but defintely doable and worth it in the end. I probbaly should have picked a slightly smaller fig to try it out on for the first time than a knight but there we go
Nonsense... we all know this is just a practice run for a Warlord Titan....
Our boy got a gun! Clipped him altogether to see how he's looking. So chuffed. Gonna take a wee break on 'Orphan's Wrath' for a few days. Need to try and get the haemonculus sorted and that. Anywho - here's where we're at. Hope y'like him
Oh - there'll be full arms on both sides. All weapon's are mag'd so there'll be lots of shootyshooty and sliceydicey to come. I got the shoulders done, just need to get busy on the attachments. For now he'll just have to make do with that wee flamer!!
'Oprah's Wrath' .....bwhahahahhahaaa

Even at this stage, that's one of the most impressive and regal Knights I've ever seen! The finished product should look spectacular.
@ Pekel - Thank you very much. Means a lot Put a ton of planning design and try ing out some new techniques on this beast so really glad that it's working out like I imagined it. Taking my time with him so hopefully he should look pretty cracking when he's (eventually!) all done........I hope - lol
Thx so much hk1x1. Kind kind words. I siad before but it's no less true - really means a lot. Dead happy folk are liking him. I'm really chuffed but that's just me. Great that other folk are digging the big fella too
Cheers Az. Been a bit of a slow week adn been trying to finish up a DA haemonc too. Started on the thunderfist and battlecannon y'day so hopefully some more WiP shots coming soon
Thx a million bottle. It's nearly a year now since I got back in to hobby and this has been a really great project to almost) finihs up my first year back. Lovin this model and all the planning, research, doodling, designing and stuff that have gone with it. Been a great chance as well to try out some new techniques, effects and ideas too. Thaknfully they all seem to have worked out.....so far (touch wood ) Looking forward to getting some of his weapons finshed up so I arm the fella. At the minute he's just standing there sans weapons with the lone exception of a tiny melta gun!!!! Sould at least get his thunderfist completed this weekend....hopefully. Have to travel cross country tomoro for a wedding in the town I lived in for my first 8 years in Korea.

결혼식에서 소주 많이 마시지마 ;-)
Yeah it's a great project to crown your 1 year! It's been a year since I got back into it too, maybe I should do a big project too...
감사 감사! 하지만 요즈음에 소주 진짜 안마시고 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Working on the Thunderfist right now. Seriously cool piece of kit. Big project - defintely - you so need to. Some nice big monster to go along with your AoS crew. You know you want to
Cheers Bash. That's what's gonna be on the deck for today. More marble. Starting to get some weapons up for the big guy now. Got the grey parts and the metals done for the battlecannon and the thunderfist done yesterday. Now for the plates
Cheers man. you do LeC, you really really do need one! in 28mm scale! Really is a cracking piece of kit. Great fun to build and having a blast painting it. Do invest in some leadblecher base spray though. It'll save your sanity
ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Doing some more of the Knight's marble at the mo. But after he's all done - that'll be it for marble for a while. He's a special boy. He gets the nice stuff. The skits will be the grey and blue of their forgeworld again. Ages since I've done a full 'squad'
Taking a wee break the now to watch the Blood bowl II credorian invitational over on YouTube. Just realised I've done about 5 hours of painting sodding marble today
Januine wrote:Cheers Bash. That's what's gonna be on the deck for today. More marble. Starting to get some weapons up for the big guy now. Got the grey parts and the metals done for the battlecannon and the thunderfist done yesterday. Now for the plates
Thunder fiat looks great! Your metals are very well done in my opinion. Is it just Leadbelcher and Agrax or do you have your own technique?
The metal parts on the thunderfist are leadbelcher then a few washes of nuln oil, then some agrax in the joints are around the joins. the hand part is based with mech standard grey and then highlighted up with eshin and dawnstone mix. I'll add some stronger grime and weatherin later. Got the marble plates for those two weapons done yesterday - they just need their brss trim now.
Cheers Minus The marble takes a bit of time but so worth doing it for the Knight. Hopefully will be awesome when eventually all finished....eventually....lol
Busy busy few days. But fair bit of progress on ol' 'Orphan's Wrath'
Got more marble bits done and the boy now has some weapons!!! The shielding plate on the battlecannon was an utter arse to do but still
Blimey, when this is finished (and you do not look far off at all) this will be amazing. So is it just the shoulder plates, a bit of detailing and the base left to do?
Cheers folks. Not really planned out the base yet but will be in the vein of the other admech stuff I've done - grey cracked earth but with some rusted detritus and wreckage to I think. Still a ton of work to do on the knight yet though. The Pauldrons, the other main weapons and the missile launcher all still need to be done. Then come the freehand heraldry and the banner and then finally filth, grime, weathering, chipping and the like. Loads to do yet!! Really really pleased with seeing him come together though
