What kind of hilt are you looking at in sense of design ?
I take a piece of PC shape it connect it at the top and bottom of the handle, then design the shape and detail on to the card and remove any sections in between the design.
If you get my drift ?
Other wise he is taking shape, but I think his feet need to be bigger.
Yes, my approach should work, I did it on a small scale mini so should translate to larger scale with ease.
The sword is looking great so far, with the hilt added will really finish it .
shasolenzabi wrote:Interesting. But also with a bot, a swivel joint for the sword is also nice, then it becomes a whirling blade of doom!
mate i seem to don´t get that? what should/could i do? i think you are onto something good there but i am lost in transaltion it seems...please again...with baby talk^^

Yeah the CGI animated series showed his hide-a-way, he had statues made of his transition from a living being to almost total cyborg to be a better merc fighter.
now i see...hmmm.... but that rotating swordfighting style i think is a bit out of my theme for the steamunky imperial army i would say... what do others think of this?
otday i git the handguard idea i needed by accident... hopefully i can show you what i did tomorrow...
by the way... did you understand much of that german dubbed version shaso?

My German is limited to such delightful phrases such as:
"Du ist ein scheiße kopf -.-" (stuck as it was one of the more popular phrases being thrown around in class)
"Das ist gut "
"Das ist nicht su gut"
"Nieten! Nieten überall!"
It's not good in more ways than one.
Too bad a small motor wouldn't be able to fit into the arm though, so the blade spins slowly and menacingly. Though it doesn't really suit a sabre.

Just what I wanted to hear

"We"? Do you have some multiple personality thing going on, or did the Rivetto's mutiny and take over the Von Domm Castle?

Hate to break it to you, Dave, but "dumkopt" doesn't mean "swell kid". Your situation is a bit like this one:
Spoiler:
Actually, I have no idea what "dumkopt" means, but I needed a way to introduce the comic
well if you are veer in the need to defend yourself in a german bar brawl then i am your teacher^^
and yep dave ... i think your grandfather loved you...as in tough lobe...muahahaha....

i will update soon for some asked for scale shots... so stay tuned...
LOL... fatty and anvil... after a while of chatting with you guys in english i go to bed with english thoughts... sometimes...when i have been overdoing dakka^^ (it is possible...yes it is^^) then i am sometimes at a loss of words at the kitchen table even... i recall trying to describe my family some things you fellas did or talked about and then some words just didn´t come to my mind in german...tstststs...
and now for something completely different...tho it did also partly consists of using swearwords...

todday i started to work on the sabre handguard...also i provide you now at first with the scaleshots of some of my works for some referrence to size to the "walker" knight...
here are some impressions...:
and here are the pics of my first time use of miliput ever..., only the first basic shape tho... so more to come hopefully...
i say hopefully because something terrible happened... maybe you still remember the red christmas balls i used for the shoulder joints... well they came off for the mockups shots... and thus i am now forced to find a replacement... tho that gives me now plenty of time to make good work for the arms as such... and there is much to be done there...
Love the detail work on the sword, and with it mostly intact, the cross legged look is less noticeable ^^
But yeah, my favorite bit has to be the head still, it's just so badass ^^
hopefully i can make the arms work still... i need now to find a way to get the arms inside the sockets... and as i have discovered... the liquid nail stuff is good to get quickly stuff together... unfortunatly as it dries it gets brittle... so i think a good layer of GS all around is in dire need... darn...there goes my suply...^^
im liking what i am seeing here vik! now on that there knighty man, do you plan on adding a bit of cloth, or just keeping him bare armor?
btw the only reason why i am not adding to this odd german conversation, is be cause all i would say is stuff about cats, appels, and gak... so didnt think that was neccisary (:
and well ... what kind of cloth do you think would look good on that one? loincloth or something else too? i think banners i wouldn´t know where to put ...
hmm i dunno, until now i didnt want one, but i think maybie those banners like they have on the titans could look cool, plus it could help you tie it in to the =][_,= without putting a giant L on the chest
I always thought that the L on the chest could either be really good, or really bad.. altough with all the inquisition models out there, im sure you can find a succesfull way to pop in a =][_,= or two

Hmm... maybe if you cut it out of relatively thin plasticard you might be able to bend it over a shoulder or leg guard or something if you don't want to risk a chest icon...
Wow, he is much bigger than I was expecting. I love every inch of it.
Do you own a heat gun?
I know several very good techniques for spheres and curved face icons and such with plasticard if you do.....
Also, the reason the christmas bulbs aren't working is because they have that red metallic paint on them still. Scrub it off with sandpaper or a file and try again. The paint they use on them isn't plastic and the color is in the paint so it blocks plastic glue. I have used them before.....
Also, I have used ping pong balls. But you have to use Cyano Acrylate (superGlue) on them..
As for the millitput work, damn sight better than I could have done. I must say, though, I think we both need work on that particular skill, Vik. S'okay, we teach each other waht we learn as we go......
Wow, he is great! I love his posture, especially with the others in there for scale!
How does he match up against a warhound titan height wise? Could be a good counts-as, though you're not really playing these days, right? Also convienient to use wathound stats, because I have no idea where knight stats are at
mxwllmdr wrote:Wow, he is much bigger than I was expecting. I love every inch of it. hurhurhur... sorry
Do you own a heat gun? sadly no... tho i think i would be very hesitant to use one...we only live in a small apartment and tho i have a cellar i could use i still would feel uncomfortable to use one...sometimes i am way clumsy^^

The paint they use on them isn't plastic and the color is in the paint so it blocks plastic glue. Also, I have used ping pong balls. But you have to use Cyano Acrylate (superGlue) on them...tho i hate using spuperglue...remeber...me=clumsy^^ but yep... for future projects i get me some pingpong balls...

Can you sand milliput? yep! and tho i will do that at first this needs to be build further and some GS as well...
Vik that is bigger than i had first thought, he is looking pretty dam fantastic the pose is great (the knocked knees are not noticeable ) and the sabre is a great idea and works so well.
I think some kind of shoulder, leg and shin armour would look great, the L idea would be kick ass so thats a must.
The pic of the group was a nice sight which makes me think you need to return to this project, great work keep it coming.
What is the thought on the right arm ? Fist or weapon ?
Really looking good cant wait to see more keep it coming.
well... harold is an old friend from the previous games... now he is fully transmuted into a ghoul tree being and stands in the "city" of oasis... thats in the northern middle...
well he himslef wants to be killed off...as he is rooted by a tree to that place...and the place is inhabited by loonies who think he (harold) is a god...well he is responsible for the sole natural green at all in the lands...
tho there is this leader at oasis... he wants the place hushed up and so the roots (where the heart is of harold, complicated stuff rather...) should be treated with something to stop harold spread his semen from going further than oasis...
and his wife...well she wants the semen to spread all over the lands... make everything grow and green...

I'd say spread his seed and then kill him, pleasing two of the three parties. in such a wasteland, you can't afford to be selfish with precious resources ^^
Once you choose an option the others are gone. The best thing for you to do for your character is to spread his seed or kill him. Stinting his growth so to speak but letting him live doesn't really have the return rate on the investment to make it wortuwhile.......

It had better be... *cocks shotgun*
and also, it seems after those 223 pages, you've picked up what shall now be known as "leaguistic syndrome", where one picks up the copious amounts of "^^" and "..." that the league uses in their posts.
Vik, even when you make the growing go beyond the Oasis, you will not see much in your lifetime, but when you end the original main quest, there will be mentions of it, that, and all the loonies will load you with gifts from their personal stuff that they feel they themselves no longer need in Oasis.

@AnUnearthlyChilde - Check my Necromunda thread for answers to your riveting questions. But there is no one correct way/material for making rivets. the League is all about different, extraordinary riveting techniques and creations.
Vik is master of the hole-punch, Shas is master of the superglue rivet, I like the sliced rod method myself...
Speaking of the Rivet Article...I looked, there really isn't a sub-category under PAINTING and MODELING that seems to fit something as generic as riveting under the Dakka Articles section. How do you classify riveting? It can be used for miniatures and terrain both??
i was watching an British show scrapyard king (or something like that). and the bloke found an old stair and began to explain why this was so valuable : it has a steampunk vibe and what makes it extra special are these blue rivets........
I was laughing hysterical and my mom called the loony house

Ah, not that then- scrapheap challenge is where two teams of 4 get let loose in a scrapyard with some tools and a workshop and are given a day to build a vehicle of some kind to do a specific course to do something, fastest wins- like there was a vehicle to go along a really muddy field, over steep inclines and stuff to get a car out of a bog and then make it back first, or a race to drive along a track, then along a lake. Very interesting.
dsteingass wrote:Speaking of the Rivet Article...I looked, there really isn't a sub-category under PAINTING and MODELING that seems to fit something as generic as riveting under the Dakka Articles section. How do you classify riveting? It can be used for miniatures and terrain both??
i had that look already too... and this made me feel that we have a duty...because it IS essential to the right factions to have substantial riveted stuff for their models...
oh...and there is a fourth version...rawson used the drill and rod method... and even the filter balls and drill methode should then be portrayed as well...
really if i was better in the writing i should have done that way earlier...
I think that there really needs to be a comprhensive scratch modeling article. I would write that. Where do you guys think it should go? And who would be willing to help on the GS and Mini parts?

and it would be an article in the P&M department...if you do this you get lotsa pics of each member and you include them as you see fit... just say the word and we jumpt to it^^
and as it is an article you can always add new stuff to it so there is no real pressure here... imagine what this might be for the league... when i visit the mainpage of dakka all the time the same stuff in the artcle section apears... now imagine the tasty article of making rivtes shows up every now and then...need i say more? ^^

Various types of rivet

Various League of Extraordinary Riveters members
Various variations of the above
oh...we have to inculde emossed rivets too...i did them and dave did them on his first tower for his ´munda terrain too...

lone dirty dog

and someone i am currently not able to name but that guy is coincidentally at the mack of that list because of the alphabet...
I would like to nominate The_Blackadder for membership. Not only because he is fantastic, but also because I think that he would be the perfect contributer for the scale and proportions section of the article.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Are you referring to Grand Moff Vikington?

Scale and proportion
Then I was thinking break it down into classes of models:
Minis
Tanks
Walkers
Terrain and buildings (a section for which I humbly nominate Dave to write)
Wheeled vehicles
Flyers
et. al.....
Can I also suggest a LoER FAQs and Q&A thread?
Maybe started by Dave or Vik and manned like tech support dweebs by all of us?
And, yes, I have been thinking about this for some time. with the advent of every new talented scratch builder that comes around I have noticed that the hunger for how to is quite strong. there needs to be a place for that information to be there for anyone who wants it.
This informal sharing of things and techniques that we enjoy as our threads progress needs a clearing house for storage so that people don't have to keep asking the same questions over and over.
I read Tebrey's Plasticard 101 on the Boot Camp when I started and as good as it was it was still very limited as to the ins and outs of actually making something.
I feel this is the time, place and group of people to make this happen.....
even though i am not a member (yet) id like to help with the article.
i also think you should add a part about painting around rivets. there is a very different way to paint weathering around rivets as they are the perfect place to paint rust and oil marks
i am absolutly with you... and you put the finger on the aching point alright!
also... i think it is a duty... we have collected a very huge mass of information and expierience and the so called think tank of the league or even dakka should spread out it´s knowledge...the only way to progress... and one might never know who comes out of his lurking state then and shares some gems we haven´t even thought about...
Automatically Appended Next Post:

that is a good point my friend!...
thank the lords that the league have no celibacy built in theoir charter... breeding new members is way too slow...
and i know for a fact that soon there will be a new wave of memberships to the league... growing hand in hand with good modelers is also the only way... fresh blood and all^^
1. I think it is important that for each type of riveting technique shown, we MUST have at least one fully painted (and/or weathered) pic example (even if the rivet method includes one or more unpainted pics)
2. How about we build an outline to keep it organized?
Maybe with hyperlinks in the TOC to the relevant section?
example:
Model Riveting
Presented by the -=]_.=-
I. Why Rivet?
II. Riveting Methods
a. Sliced rod method
1. dsteingass section
2. mxwllmdr's section
b. Water Filter bead method
1. Rawson's section
etc.
etc.
3. How about TOOLS and MATERIALS appendicies? full of pictures of the tools, maybe even links to webstores, etc.
Can we do hotlinks in the article like Dakka does with abbreviations? That would be cool if we could. Then the TOC would link to the section, and the tool names would link to the appendix.
4. I think we should purposely mention the -=]_,=- often, but we should NEVER come right out and say what we are...I think that will lead the reader to wonder, add a little mystery

Sounds cool, kind of like an all-in-one guide to riveting you have planned ^^
I won't be much help though, since I'm inexperienced and have no fresh ideas that hasn't already been covered I reckon as you do the how-to's, the first time you mention a specific non-standard tool (i.e: not clippers/hobby drill, but hole punchers, specific craft knives, etc.), include a hyperlink to a website where you can buy one.
And I think we should say "brought to you by the LoER", but don't do any self promotions unless you include pictures covered in your blogs, and say at the end of the picture "for more pictures and stuff, it can be found on ____'s thread, here: www._________"
*rubs hands* that sounds so cool... i like how this party is starting!
but i have to say... much of the really cool sounding stuff you just mentioned i can´t do as i am too noobish around all that hidden coded stuff in a document...

1. dsteingass section
2. mxwllmdr's section
Automatically Appended Next Post: I have an assload of old WD magazines, if you know the WD# I may have it right here.
I agree with the added mystery of the League.....
I will add your TOC into mine and continue forward with it. I'll PM the proposed final product to Dave and Vik for approval....
All right, League. Keep the ideas coming. Let's set a timeline though so it doesn't spiral out of control and never get published....
What say April 15th to have all suggested topics in and the 30th to have all methodology and individually assigned write ups finished?
I won't be much help though, since I'm inexperienced and have no fresh ideas that hasn't already been covered
at least we could use you as a guinea pig...to test out all methods...LOL...

either jake will jump to that or we have to invite ishkatar and or storag to the fold... both have shown numerous amounts of rivets on mini´s already...
