well i was quilty of that for years in my mind^^
by the way... we recently went to the fleamarket and i found a lego tiger tank... i never even bithered to ask for the price...heck that seller wanted around 5 €s for a chewie mini...
this was basicaly what i did for him, although unfortinatly he owned the little ironman handblastes, so those i didnt make (but this didnt take me long to make, and it cost me nothing)
Nice start Vik and considering the size of the shaper it's coming on well, as I mentioned earlier with the sizes of shapers I would have used a smaller one for this (should have sent a smaller one as well )
The larger one was for larger areas of GS really (hence chest of knight ) but for this size of model and using that one you have done well, when building chest sections I start with the basic shape of the torso pecks area ect.
Then later after the first section is dried I build up the six peck and define the muscle definition, this is why I do it in sections as you can alter or ruin detail thats finished when trying to create all the structure in one sitting.
Nice job and cant wait to see how this turns out later
lol indeed^^ we´ll see about if this will be made in reality soon...

thanks RW... that was quick and helpful... the helmet would give me a little bit of problem atm tho as i have no visor atm i could use ...any idea how to start that helmet problem?

yep...i am totally agreeing here with you but sometimes i can´t restrain myself and keep going further... tho that always cramps my hands as you then have to hold the mini in quite akward poses and this makes your hand to be like vicelike grips and you can maintain that grip only for so long...
the main skill i have to develop is how to actually use the shaper... how to move him...stabbing /swivveling/ pushing/ pulling and whatnot...
Nice job and cant wait to see how this turns out later
I made Brotherhood of Steel armor for my son once for Halloween. I will find a photo for you. I am also gonna make either Halo or Deadspace armor for him this year. Although he is thinking maybe he wants Space Marine Armor.
a bolter version for both of my kids is in the plans for quite some time now... i need to get this one started soon... i dream of raiding a playground together with my sons and see all those shocked faces of more "honorable" parents...
max...that would be cool...looking forward to that...!
son no don't shoot people with your bolt pistol and chainsword no
at fatty...i am more the father that looks sternly at my kid if he points with the naked finger... pointing with the boltpistol would be no tpoblem for me i guess^^
hmm vik any kind of old hat, helmet, or maybie even headband... you could also try a bandana, might work and be less tight then trying the headband
@max damn you gotta lucky kid, i would have loved to get some nice armor, as i would have never got out of it
^dont worry vik this pun is in good taste trying to make a costume!
strider costume... nice! i have a barbarien costume, as more of a joke... but uh... yea its odd
Viktor von Domm wrote:also i am always in fear of tearing or ripping the silicon tip apart due to too much pressure...anyone has some expierience of how much pressure is too much?
I've never had any problems with mine. Mine aren't so old, but I've pushed the limit on the window of opportunity for workable GS, and haven't had any issues. I think it depends a bit on your technique as well, though. I'd be more worried about it detaching from the handle than the silicone tearing...
Viktor von Domm wrote:ok...but that too would make the tool useless...
Yeah, but you'd have to be putting an aweful lot of pressure on it to accomplish that I think...
Viktor von Domm wrote:by the way... have you ever thought about trying too use a silicon tipped kitchen tool like:
for sculpting uses?
that is an idea that is spooking in my mind for quite some time...
How big of a sculpting project you planning, Vik? I've never tried trimming down silicone and how it handles said process, but it has certainly crossed my mind. I've debated trimming some of the never used shapes into smaller versions of the shapes that I do use a lot, but never had the guts
well...actually i thought about going to use it for ground work on the knights body for starters... cutting it up...well the tips at least would then be later still usable on small scale...
also there are these silicon "bristled" brushes for baking and stuff... the bristles also could be used for this sculpting effort...
i know i sound like a miser here... but honestly it isn´t for me the amount of money atm but rather the challange to find other means to an end...

Those bristles could also probably be turned into rivets easily when you're done with it.
Yup, like Rogue's (I think) rod-cutting rivet thing
just noticed that the "beat this unit" thread is a popular chain thread made in may 2010, and is still only 9 pages ahead of this thread made in 2011, basically a dozen or so guys talking about rivets
ohoh...i wouldn´t wnat to be messing with ole Klaus... (he is german after all and might be living near me^^ so better not make him angry...you never know who migt end up on your doorstep^^)
and well klaus stuff ranges on the superhuman stuff i have to say... i have seen numerous projects of his and always mindblowing to say the least...
and well... my own airship...argh...yeah... hopefully one day it sees more work...
thanks max for the laurels^^
and fatty... that was cool yet funny too^^
as for the knight...well... sculpted a bit further on the torso ribcage... but i seem to have some serious issues to get that part anywhere symetric... i definatly stick for such big projects next time more to PC and cardboard than sculpting materials...
tho i worked on it some more i still deem it not picworthy... maybe in the evening night after some more shaping up work i get some pics for you...
sorry guys ...promised some updates but i was a couchpotato that evening... we wathced one of my favorite shows atm...terra nova... dinosaurs and automatic guns... well what is not to be liked with a mix like that?^^
but i have high hopes for more work to be done tomorrow on oth fresh projects...
by the way... jake...whenever your steampunk guns may arrive in the future... i have already made up a plan to use them with some wargames factory greatcoat bodies i have... now i just need to find suitable looking arms and heads to go as well... or your nice skullheads
oh ok, well im all out of ideas... except for one, but im sure that if your weapon is too big for facial hair, its too big to fit ... in there... so we'll just stick with leaving it where it is

Rem. 870 20 gauge, vented 18 inch bird barrel, ghost ring sights, choates mag extension, Sometimes a mesa tactical stock, but not currently, sling, and an 18 inch fully rifled slug, with the factory picatanny rail for my nikon P-223
Either or, sometimes if there are ex-millitary at the range, I'll even do breaching courses with them. I like target shooting, but nothing beats the thrill of hitting a deer at 75 yards out!
How about you?
mostly targets, many of my freinds from back in PA are big hunters, always wanted to go with them but when i was younger my dad (who was in military) didnt really enjoy that stuff all too much, and by the time i could go with my freinds it was too late
to be honest, i went fishing with a bunch of guys... i ended up playing with the knives the whole time, while 1 outta the 10 guys just kept getting fish after fish within minutes.... i dont think thats how its supposed to work

Well, I will say I'm a decent shot, but I'm not the best hunter. I can't stand sitting and waiting for the deer, and I am too clumsy to sneak up on one. I like shooting while resting the rifle on the hood of the truck.
thats how its done! i dont wear trucker hats for no reasons!

well mates...hopefully the end is not nigh...i still have plans for after new years eve^^
as for how this thread has been abondoned by me...well i was trying myself out in sculpting recently...later today i will present my first three new thingies...so better stay tuned^^
don´t get me wrong...but here in germany only i know of some nutcases that go hunting... that might be completly different in the states tho...
and tho i am a total carnivore by heart i could never kill an animal for any reason than selfprotection...
As for hunting, it's a lot easier to kill animals than you might think. Well, at least when you are trying to put food on the table for your family. And let me tell you...rabbit, is Deeee-licious!
On the end of the world. The world may not actually end. But it might be the end of an era. Like the end of the "computer age" and the start of the "Zombie age". We might still be around, if we are fast enough, and don't mind killing some brain dead Z monsters! Just watch your back, keep weapons nearby if not on your person, and try to get your hands on a shark-proof suit.
Thanks Max! I just assumed everyone had read every thread on Dakka.
It was discussed some time ago that those suits would be good Zombie protection. Of course, living in the mountains, I'm not sure where I could get one....
I think Motorcycle riding gear would work too, right? At least until I can get to a scuba shop.
Well being in the mountains you wouldn't really need to worry about them as much. It'll probably be easier just to not get bitten there. Suit's probably heavy as well.
Yeah, but you have to go into town for re-supply from time to time. Just trying to think ahead. I do have a motorcycle jacket, and thick work pants. I should be alright for small skirmishes...
And when I get my tank up and running in a few weeks (hopefully), I'll have a good Mobile Zombie Defence Command Post.
to prevent further derailing with more sharks...by the way... does yon sharksuit for zombie protection cover the face too? and if you have wilder z´s to fend off...what about tearing of your own limbs???
here is an update of my current works...
courtesy to not_U as he made me try out my own lil bit of demon sculting... i see them as a little flock of goey demons...
they are made from clay...the leged one is also made with a wireskeleton...the rest tho is not...
then i added after the clay was dry some PVA for the small goey snottey look...
think this is worth some more work for even more smallish demons?
my son recently went to a brthday party and got a small sheat of rub on tattoos...which looked like these... and where the inspiration for these three clay-mons^^
i must have seen many of those sketches...always something very special and i bet they tried to make the show also entertaining for parents watching as well... few childrenshows try to do that!
lol vik i love those globby daemons, i used to make stuff like that when i was younger ... btw im never disapointed when not U posts... lol sharks on land
btw vik, being that i never hunted, even though i want to.... i think i'd be ok with killing a deer, seeing as back in the home town in PA we had deer hunting seasons just because their population was waay to big, so not entirely useless, but i still cant go to pet stores or watching those animal commericials without wanting them, so i am a bit soft for animals for a guy who likes guns and hockey but thats alright

as for the love for gun/animals/hockey... i am totally with you... tho the mix of those i couldn´t do with the best part in icehockey is that after a really hard tackle the blood remains on the ice for everyone as a warning to be seen...that is the best part of the game!!!
shrike wrote:I used to be quite good at hockey... until the ice and physical side of it started...
er...??? i thought that was the whole point of the game? violence and so on?
I'm a good shot when it comes to passing and shooting in hockey, and am agile enough to move around, but I can't ice skate to save my life and I'm the weakest guy ever. So when we did (non-physical) hockey with a ball and on concrete/wood, I was amazing, but when we did it with contact, I was screwed

well you stated earlier that you are not one to be seen as all beefed up... well when i said i like icehockey...i can´t skate... not on bare ground or ice...at all...so^^ but i like the look of the game...that was my point i was trying to make^^
oh...we have a clever sorting system... even my young kids can do it...it works and all the good parts are in one box...all the minifigs stuff are in another...then there are plain bricks, car/plane, houserelated and plates...and of course tech lego..but that seldom gets used...only those big knight...the kids love these...
i like it LDD...specially the scenic base!!! that´ll teach him for flower picking...!
i often wanted to use tech bits too...but sometimes you have to be quick about it and using tech bitz somehow makes it even more complicated...but it is a true fact for a slim look tech bitz are perfect!
at dave... weonly ever baught one set of magabricks... a small orc...and now the bricks inculded always stick out of the box we are currently using... and it is a lie that megabricks and lego brick go well together... they don´t even have the same height... look no futher as to the plates of lego and mega...the latter is far thicker...
and at LDD...that was to show you what i think of putting vanilla ice on my thread°°

yep they are from the new range... i will be getting LGS, the black brush on primer, a new white and a white "foundation" and also i think two metal colors if i am not mistaken...all for one the mucho needed equivalent to tin bitz
Plus where is the Knight and the updates it was getting interesting painting the bots what kind of scheme are you thinking of is it still the red whit and blue ?

I bought a couple of small bags of watch gears from ebay pretty cheap and just started gluing them where they sorta look like they would work on my walker. A dragon would be no different than that really- Just start cutting and gluing shapes in a mechanical fashion, and glue in gears where it might move.
Be prepared for a looong project, of course, but well worth it..I really like the idea!
That is pretty amazing really. And close to what I have in mind, dstiengass' idea of using gears sounds very fun, Now I shall just have to talk to my artist mate. See if she can help me get my concept on paper
Well looks like my plog might start having a big project in future.
Sometimes a large collection of people can just inspire someone to make something crazy
also, nothing to do with monty python, but here's a semi-steampunk game out, kind of like a crossover between assassin's creed and steampunk, with some magic thrown in for good measure http://www.youtube.com/user/BethesdaSoftworksUK?v=IyDvT7XpaBc (youtube didn't work)
hmm nice little clayguys vik and i love the walker, if i had as many pennies as i had made lego walkers then i'd have enough to buy a house.... after i robbed a bank of course.. because $0.10 isnt enough for a house... btw about the hockey

here are my latest works on the knight...if someone has some clver ideas as to how and in what pattern to add rivets to the chestpiece i am all ears...er...eyes^^
on a realted note...the much apreciated of all rivets on the faceplate rubbed off...so they need to be replaced later on... i think i will use then the drill and rod methode for them...
also as here not seen yet... i have worked on the toes some more...pics will follow tomorrow after i have finished the second foot...
cheers,vik...btw...have been absent because of a cold i catched...yucky^^
yeah i know...it is about time... sadly i must say the paints of GW hasn´t reached me yet... seems they need more than a week to get to me... which seems a bit much in my view for such a postage...
That looks fantastic Vik!! You always have to do some rivet replacement therapy just before you prime it. Consider those rivets that fell as "impure"- To be replaced with righteous rivets
As for the rivet pattern on the chest...straight to match the awesome looking arms, except give him a big round riveted chest circle
Automatically Appended Next Post: ..And some sort of grille texture on his mouth area too.
well actually i have wondered where the crew might enter this beast... and i have thought about maybe adding a hatch there... just in the middle of the chest? would that look good? of course rivets galore there then...
but i´ve meant how the pattern of rivets should look like...look here...made a mockup pic... which side do you prefer?

Sweet work here, Vik! I can't remember exactly, but is the boiler in his chest? You could have an Ironman-esque hatch in his chest with some OSL (<--- Challenge Issued )
Or a big =]_,= in rivets on his chest
Anvildude wrote:Don't go painting just for the sake of painting. Wait until you've completely finished to your own satisfaction before proceeding to the next stage.
Sorry to hear you were feeling under the weather mate but glad you are back to it, bit of a dramatic change from the last time we saw him but the chest now ties in well with the rest and looks great.
As for the hatch in the chest good idea but how you will fit it in to the style is a mystery to me the face grill will look cool as well needs investigating Rivets style right I think but you will work that out as you go.
I would not paint until complete it's a nightmare to stick stuff when you do that
of course the knight will see completion before anything as close as a primer will hit it!!! and yes, i will try to make it look as good as i can...for my own needs mostly...one has to feel close to the project and thus needs to have a finished project that is acording to ones own standards^^
as for the hatch... the iron man idea sounds cool, yet it is not needed as the boiler is in the back...the two for now red thingies are the smokestacks there and there is a round thingy that will one day (hopefully not to far away) be the boiler...
the hatch i will probably do in GS... today i finished the second toe... i will show you all in the evening/ night CET what is what... for now i am rather satisfied with the sculpting work i did on them... but you´ll see that soon^^
as for the sculpting of the hatch... after the help of LDD with a paintshaper he got me, i am now feeling way more certain in sculpting work and thus i will sculpt the hatch myself^^ GS work it will be...the toes by the way are done by miliput and that was quite a feat!
as for the cold...yeah it will take it´s time...nasty as a summer cold is... but since the kids and my wife are at home, there is nae much of time wasted to be ill so i get better soon by order
i see you soon with an update... maybe even the afore mentioned hatch! so cross your fingers mates!
at max... get better soon mate...we need your quality input!!!
if i did a hatch were the ears would be...then only a grot wold be able to climb in... you misjudge the scale i think... i will later on show the head in comparrision with a mini...
the hatch took me endless trys... as i was sculpting on the living room table...while my wife watched the mentalist...and she had to endure the endless sighings as my current sculpt went wrong...again...^^ then i finally lubbed the tube i cut the round hatch from the rolled out GS and added some details and let it cure over night... it was still very flexible so that i could then today aply it with more GS to the chest... then i added the hinges...
thanks for the high praise^^
