Kans, kans everywhere, and Kans need to be greasy as all things green and mean machine should be
Spoiler:
Also, totally by accident and by lack of skill discovered interaction of a combination of accidental splochy contrast paint application, on irregular white basis, metal drybrushing, nuln oil and agrax. endresult, simple and fast and quite nice looking

Long weekend and vacation on top of it and just for the fun of it
Anyways, stand sunday evening
Some more detail filling, drybrush application to the stormboys black clothing, drybrush application to the boots. then washing, then glue water mixture + decor sand, then when still wet application of my dirt brown decor lack water mixture, then drying, then stones and grass.
after that, exhaust black.
ETA, tomorrow evening earliest, tuesday evening latest.

Oh and found that nice fellow again, now i only need to re glue his arm....

anyways, here is a sneak peak for my next project.
Don't worry the orks are still being done until the next project becomes fully available , still my second last purchase of GW minis .
gobert wrote: Nice job on the choppy ladz. It must be quite a waagh now

Well then, the core of this years project, that is if Wargames atlantic finally releases their space brits ...
Say hello to Väterchen Rost
massiv that malcador.
Personal thoughts on it:
look 10/10. this thing looks in some ways more modern than the leman russ and older at the same time. fitting perfectly the 40k human experience.
Kit. 3/10
Oh boiii, where do i beginn, let's just say i am certainly not an inexperienced builder, i have worked with resin before, quite extensively in fact. This thing somehow tops my decimator that had a massive issue with the main armor plate...
Yeah, so here's the list of issues from nitpicky to just bad design: the parts required quite a bit of cleaning some cables and the back grid was f.e. full, compared to other companies FW really needs to get more crisp moulds. Resin quality is also a bit iffy for my taste, arms of the commanders / MG gunner were not fitting in the slightest, the side that had the main mould injection required heavy sawing and clean up, etc. but here comes the main kicker, you get a leman russ tread sprue, a full sprue for treads, meanwhile half the treads on it, as you can see are allready in resin there. You know what you don't get, a plan of how much of that tread sprue you need, you need about 1/3rd. The treads on IG tanks always are annoying this thing however with no plans / not side indication, not anything..... jeeez talk about hostile torwards the builder.
Does Not Online reccommend?
if you just start out... NO! Helll no. This thing is too expensive to feth up.
if you are actually competent builder (basically you got your first army and started conversion and have allready worked with resin) yes.
If you are competitively orientated? this thing never has been good
Narratively? This thing is intended as a centerpiece for an 6-7th edition / oldhammer campaign and is/ will be the centerpiece of that army. It is an interesting tank, basically a fast superheavy, it also offers ample space for kitbashing / conversion ,etc. so yes (regardless of Chaos or Imperium, or even looted ork)
Oooh, the mek in me is looking forward to seeing your latest additions! The grot tanks are really cool, as is the Malcador, even if it’s a real pita to build
gobert wrote:Oooh, the mek in me is looking forward to seeing your latest additions! The grot tanks are really cool, as is the Malcador, even if it’s a real pita to build
Pita is a very nice formulation for what i have said about the malcador, but endresult is indeed awesome.
Captain Brown wrote:Orks are looking good there Not Online!!!
gobert wrote: Tonks! Seems somehow appropriate for grot tanks! They’re looking really cool already and a nice wash will be even cooler
Tell me this thing isn't similar to the Grot tanks and what Grot tanks are in regards to being a ludicrous concept , then again killa kanz are a thing aswell
Grot vehicles are just awesome in general, shame for the big one being so expensive for what it is....
So, as you can see this is now a full on loyalist thread!
OK now that i have successfully fullfilled my April obligations back to the actual project:
Welcome the Rust Bringers. Yes that means i once again go back to R&H and once again i full fill that theme army itch. Welcome to trench warfare, nurgle style.
As always when i do theme armies i have an idea that i flesh out, but this one i kicked around since i got IA13 at its release.
I am not particulary a fan of the more sick-mutated nurgle esthetique that is nowadays so common, i however really always kinda liked and prefer the grandfather in the very specific stagnation- decay aspects of his nature.
Certainly my views were also tainted by the Vraks background in that regard that i envision nurgle mortal armies, if they are made out of turncoats to find many a follower especially in siege formations and the artillery aswell as line formations that get ground down in attrition.
Naturally following out of this i can deduce what, why and where and how to field such an army.
-Such a line formation will be analogue to the good old IG setup, if only smaller due to attrition and probably quite a bit more experienced. Hence why Veterans should be a strong feature of such an army.
-Further considering imperial doctrine of one unit-type regiments that get thrown together in "temporary" ad hoc combined arms formation sourounding a core of a specific regiment with support regiment unit types. That means there will quite likely be some support artillery.
-It is quite likely that at somepoint offensive operations will be needed to be conducted, for that and sticking with a trench warfare theme there will be quite likely some form of armored support especially in an infantry tank type setup.
Hence, the following list written for an 5-6th hybrid ruleset using the normal IA13 list:
And now for those that can't read my disgusting handwriting in one of my black hobby books aswell as the thoughts for the units in spoilers.
HQ: Command Squad, +5 Disciples, Carapace armor for the unit, Plasmagun, command vox, Banner of Hate. Demagogue with: Archheretic Revolutionary, Covenant of Nurgle,Refractorfield, Carapace Armor and Power Weapon.
Spoiler:
This is the Typical Command squad , with a particulary tough (4+/5++/6+++) and gifted leader and follower of nurgle, sourounded by his handpicked veterans.
"1. Platoon"
10 Disciples, Carapace armor, Lascannon team, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle
10 Disciples, Carapace armor, Lascannon team, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle
10 Disciples, Carapace armor, Lascannon team, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle
Spoiler:
This are the line men, 4+/6+++ to represent the stagnation of the frontline and their experience, these form the backbone of the static defense by especially targetting enemy tank formations and anchor the frontline due to being fanatic.
"2. Platoon"
10 Veterans, Carapace, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle, 2x Plasma gun
10 Veterans, Carapace, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle, 2x Plasma gun
10 Veterans, Carapace, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle, 2x Grenade Launcher
Spoiler:
The other part of the Lineinfantry with a variety of special weapons to boot, they are the units infront of the anchors that are the line men, they come also, being veterans, equipped with kraknades ontop of frags, they further share the same defensive profile as the disciples. Representing the sentinels and counter offensive capality that normal infantry had in trench warfare
"1. Shocktroop platoon".
10 Veterans, Deepstrike, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle, 2x Melta
10 Veterans, Deepstrike, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle, 2x Melta
10 Veterans, Deepstrike, Champion with Covenant of Nurgle, 2x Flamer
Spoiler:
The offensive part of the traitor ad hoc formation, they are shocktroops, modelled after storm troopers and infiltration tactics, they are there to exploit breakthroughs, chances are i will give some of them shotguns. They are there to support "Väterchen Rost"
Väterchen Rost/ Father Rust, (Malcador)
Spoiler:
The quintessential infantry support heavy tank (super heavy actually but considering that the Malcador is basically just 2 leman russes riveted together pretending to be a super heavy whilest having less armor we can say that it is just a heavy tank ) and centerpiece model of the army. It will start on the field and hopefully get T2 support from the deepstriking shocktroops and not blow up in my deployment zone and the midst of my army due to superheavies going up quite massively
Heavy ordnance Battery: 1 Earthshaker
Spoiler:
Model 1:35 takom Krupp 21 Cm Mörser 10/16 in this case built as the 16 variation ( longer barrell). The big gun pulling double duty as AT and Anti infantry, representing the support artillery asigned to the ad hoc formation before their turning sans crew
Field artillery Battery: 3 Heavy Mortars / 3 Thuddguns
Spoiler:
Model that will be used is a 1:35 IBG35025 IBG-Modellbau Skoda 100mm vz 14/19 Howitzer, the 19 version, will be modified (shortened) on the gun carriage. can pull double doty as a howitzer as thudd gun or heavy mortar, more likely as a heavy mortar, to represent cheap and easy to manufacture and maintain localy produced artillery
And as a starter, yes the army will be a dirty khaki and using Wargames atlantic Bulldogs as infantry for the whole army from crew to command.
and for those that want to see something painted / the start.
Father "not yet rusty" Rust
If someone has names for the Demagogue / champions that he thinks fit the theme be my guest and bring them up!
And done!
Well, some touching up on the runes but yeah, done!
Quite content, espeically with the rust and general weathering.
Contrast paints are quite amazing once more.
Just an awesome model when built so centerpiece and big arty is done for the army. sadly the rest didn't arrive as of yet..
And exhaust and touching up the runes done.
Need to get a better pic of the dirty barrel.
Anyways. I'd say father rust turned out well enough for my skills
Great looking tanks. The Malcador looks awesome! The freehand on the chaos vindicator is really nice, especially around the cannon. The Khorne symbol covered in blood is cool too!

So here is the 1:35 100mm i talked , count as heavy Mortar.
well.
I think they fit right in. Btw, the soldier is a colour test, what do you think?
gobert wrote:Father rust came out very well, can’t wait to see the rest of the army come together.

It is, shame that it is FW resin and not plastic still better than some of the new 40k stuff, atleast desing wise and i adore it aswell as used it as a good teacher to use that rust thingy deposit!

Koptas have always been nice, the idea of junkkoptas and their insane flyboys, nvm that they often were gems in the roster of orks.
Olthannon wrote:The artillery and Koptas looks great, I like the big yellow rokkits.
Yellow = Big boom. Thanks for the Arty, shame my Bulldogs didn't yet get delivered.
gobert wrote:Nice koptas! Da red uns are clearly da best tho!
Green izz best ya git, red just fasta to die!
Anyways, got myself KT:
And fixed, my old metal kommandos with bits left over
Anyways, i took the plunge into 30k, soonish my starte box and 2 rhinos aswell as a special weapons kit box arrive, however i already started early.
here a bunch of SM scouts, converted with some leftover bits to have nemisis boltguns.
Well, i will get another 5 scouts, i got a SM commando squad for commando squad purposes and some more bits, a squad of sternguard, to become headhunters which will require some more conversion including scaling and from there i am going to drift arround for what i need.
Story of these is scouring era AL, and one of the praetors for the army will be an old (young) iteration of one of my CSM warlords
So, beeing back from vacation and consequently now freezing i decided to convert the first headhunters and another tactical squad for holding something.
Olthannon wrote: Great updates Not Online! I really like the GS scales, neat little way of using the scalpel I'm a big fan of the converted scout guns, very Orky.
my first army was orks, i will always remain a ork mek at heart

IoN:
Saboteur, your friendly neighbour... wait no, actually your tank just blew up.
Yes he has a scale cloak... don't ask how long it took me... if you do the only answer is obviously " i am alpharius".
Vigilator, basically just an Feth thine squadleaders / special weapon / HQ last hitpoint.
Yes he has a full scale torso, yes that was a primaris boltgun, yes this is orky.
MeatShield wrote:The space marines are looking good too.
Many thanks .
Olthannon wrote:Really nice conversions, really digging the cloak.
For the ammount of time it better be very nice
anyways, this time just a normal cataphractii squad and a apothecarii which will be babysitting my support weapons squads.
Since they are just normal cataphractii they only get one scale shoulderpad.
And done, all the models i currently can finish finished.
behold, the tactical support volkite calvier squad.
bit wierd that the heavy version pays for the better version of the gun half the price, but i guess if you really want to you could always run 3 heavy supports and 4 supports for a maximum of volkite... no idea if that would work, but it 'd be certainly bit hillarious.
So i had the last axe, not so awesome praetor form the starter still laying around and thought, why not make another mini HQ. Anyways since those lads toyed around with things they shouldn't they were a bit more corrupted, so why not kitbash a bit.
So i gave him some scales, a normal horned helmet, combined the terminator psy staff with an icon from the CSM kit, created a power sacrificial dagger for very safe and clearly not dangerous at all rituals.
Anyways, i guess since my rhinos still aren't here, the same with my wargames atlantic bulldogs for my initially planed summer project, i think i will start painting soonish.
Great updates, I like the more Chaosy looking marine. Some nice little conversions. I really like those backpack bits and bobs, are they from the HH kit or from somewhere else?

Normal HH equipment.
The antenaa is a nuncio vox and the "banner" is a vexilia. Both usefull tools for 10 pts. There's also an augurium scanner. I run full equipment akak Vexilia, Nuncio vox and augurium scanners. Because being prepared is just something i reckon alpha legion does.
Great work cranking out these boys, their scheme is made for contrast over metallics. What’s your plan for basing? Lots of blood and gore or clean and sneaky?
Great work cranking out these boys, their scheme is made for contrast over metallics. What’s your plan for basing? Lots of blood and gore or clean and sneaky?
I have no idea, considering i own a to be made desert table probably sanding, maybee with a bit more other things on the bases like wire etc.
Anyways bit of an upgrade, decided to give them red crests and did the black bits on all the models.
Also a certain person got his paint on
Also, my rhinos are ready for the blue aswell.
As an aside, HH2.0 rhinos are actually pretty good for tank hunting. Tape a Multi melta on top of one and you get a 65 pts danger that can carry a squad, be a roadblock and support your infantry, or staple a Havoc launcher on top because it is a havoc launcher and you got a Spartan and dreadnought to tank bully.
Olthannon wrote:Lovely paintjob on these Ultra Legionnaires. The contrast from the red crests is very nice.
They look like red crested skinks and i love it, fits Alpha legions
KernelTerror wrote:Great looking blue ! Hydra Dominatus !
Honestly, without the lighting they look more green, but then again the akhelian is literally that green-blue that are AL.
Anyways, the command cataphractii squad.
The normal cataphractii squad
The primus medicae
The full cataphractii force.
TBH, i love cataphractii and i am seriously tempted to get a squad of laerneans.
Anyways, next will be the metal on the remaining 3 squads metal wise, and the contemptor...
After that i will work on the non metal detail on the cataphractii and the eye lenses, i am thinking about red leather on the cataphractii decor.
Then it's time to train my freehand on the legio standart
Oooph, that green-blue metallic armour is to die for! Must resist adding to the plastic pile! Great work so far on these guys, the caraphracti are coming along real nicely

Anways, here is a brick o bri'ish.
Need the bases.
Also did continue the painting on my AL, washing is done there mostly.
bit on the metal bits and a bit on the mean green glow for the psyker.
Did the coils to prepare the squad for wash, 2 more squads need to be washed then the infantry is mostly finished beyond some detail work, and eyes in this case.
gobert wrote:You’re smashing these guys out Not Online! The gold on the last shot stands out really well, you’ll be able to spot them easy on the table
it's brass actually, and yes i got some time.
Olthannon wrote:Great progress, the scouts look excellent.
Many thanks.
Shaded, the marines and started progress on the scouts. after this the infantry and most of the units are done, beyond detail work.
Many thanks, also here the next thingy, i will finally finish my warriors of chaos army hence the ancient bloodthirster.
Things for the "final order" there, 20 knights, 20 blood warriors (who gave that name) 10 will be kitbashed into khorne chaos knights and 1 more into a khorne chaos lord on barded chaos steed the rest probably into minor HQ or another squad of chaos knights.
20 bloodwarriors turned into warriors or maybee khorne chosen with polearms / halberds made from the lances of the knights.
And a lord on manticore because awesome model.
The Ancient blood letter i will probably turn into a DP.

Edit, it just occured i never took pics of the contemptor:

Don't dismiss a simple base, often I think that adds so much to a finished miniature. Contrasting colour works really well and you can easily imagine your Alpha Legionnaires emerging out of the haze of a desert waste, guns blazing!

FWIW, i never had such an easy and fun time for basic infantry main colour than with this blue.
The fact that it looks awesome is just bonus.
Anyways, second rank of the big block of warriors got their leather and mantles.
And i am fixing up my exalted champion, which will either be a army standard bearer or just a halberd champion, not decided yet.
Alpharius, That’s a massive amount of Alpharius! seriously good work getting them all painted up, and based too! It’s unusual to see them on full display on the shelf instead of lurking in the shadows though Great start on the WHFB Chaos, I’m sure you’ll make short work of them

One of the most underrated kits of all time from gw, the chaos knight kit.
Also, i feel like blood warriors were at some point designed with rank and file in mind, considering their arms and hands.
Anyways, khorne Knights.
i loved chaos knights in whfb the few matches i played. Heavy shock cavalry and or melee cav with some real hmmpph, sadly outperformed by a certain kit so expensive that the nu gw iteration actually looks cheap.
gobert wrote: Cool kitbash of the Traitor Commissar! Have a good New Year!

Anyways , did an elite choice in the form of 3 medicae and 2/3'rds of the second HQ.
The main part of the command tercio.
The 3 medicaes to grant them the FNP required to make father rust proud.
The assault squad for the Marshall to be embeded in. 4 x energy weapons and blaster pistol, 2 shotguns, 3 Nade launchers, and an adjutant with powerfist and plasma pistol.
The last part of the command tercio will be a squad fully armed with plasmaguns,
Rapid progress as ever not online, that pact with the dark gods must be working! The traitor commissar conversion is looking superb, looking forward to seeing it develop
gobert wrote: Rapid progress as ever not online, that pact with the dark gods must be working! The traitor commissar conversion is looking superb, looking forward to seeing it develop
Well i feel like i am slow in regards to progress tbh
And my favourites so far:
Anyways, basing needs to be done.
But first i should finish my artillery crew and troop units.
Left models, 20. Debating if i want to make a vexilari squad, or add more artillery, or just add in another rifle squad and split the first rifle section into 2 to grant me more flexibility in deployment.
Also thinking if i should get another malcador, honestly i love them to bits. But i rekon another load of 100 mm fieldguns count as rapiers with quad launchers would be great aswell, simply because they can for 80pts be antitank, anti infantry and pinning.
I love how that one kneeling guy has what looks like a revovler and everyone else has plasma guns and volkite weapons. Somebody brought a slug thrower to a nuclear weapon fight.
KernelTerror wrote:A glorious sight ! These are greenstuff chainmail faceplates right ? Love these, great WW1 look.

It's a las revolver actually also the kneeling guy with the volkite suqad has a normal laspistol and happens to be the med.

Bit boring today, finished up another rifle squad, also cyclops faceplate.
gobert wrote: Looks like you’ve been busy building! The tommys look fantastic! Has the new guard codex made them attractive to game with again?
hell no, 9th has done it for good to get me out of GW40k.
As it stands i am not willing to run a game system that has a chaos lord on a codex binding front which i am not even allowed to field due to horrific rulesdesign, that and other... questionable design choices and a lore that devolves out of my perspective rapidly as does the general 40k model quality.. cough new primaris Missile launcher unit cough. Hence these, which were planned for an oldhammer project, are an ally for my 30k Alpha legion, are running as SA or oldhammer R&H
Olthannon wrote:That's a mighty looking armoured column. Good luck with the painting!

Your kitbashing and converting on these units (I'm particularly thinking of the guard above, but all of them) is so fantastic! The units have a great cohesive feel. Love that there are no bare heads / faces, that's always been a pet peeve of mine even if it is a 40k/30k meme for leaders to go helmetless

I am quite proud of the scales. Yet i must horde. Also there will be even more things to come for those that like kitbashes since i will turn this army into a propper milita force for 30k
That said, behold washed infantry only eyes and rust left. Then i will comence basing and then i hope that we go to step 2 of this army.
Anyways. Agrax
Volkite with the eyes is finished. But as you can see massive progress.
I kinda fell in love with the militia rules once again, even if some of them look and work wierd
Olthannon wrote: Ah there's nothing better than adding some wash to your minis, everything looks like it's coming together!
Well. Basically finished.
122 if i counted correctly to be exact. Bushes and other bits like stone and barbed wire are as of yet missing but i have anyways some more building to do to make this a fully fledged 30k milita army.
Also, some of the personal highlights:
The rifle squads, basically only bulldogs from WGA and some greenstuff. Amazing kit.
There maybe no scales but the rust and trenches are equally good! The militia looks great, some cool minis amongst their number too. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the bases too, guessing trench warfare? Coffee stirer for duck boards?

Well, more like barbed wire Anyways, army shot as promised:
The platoon is looking fantastic, great work on them! Love seeing the process for the scales, I was wondering how you managed them with contrast paints being the main colour. Underpainting was the obvious answer that I couldn’t see!

Tartarosi with base and all.

Troops, Legionaires with full command and bajonetts. 2x, and 2 rhinos with full tool kit. The right squad has a better sergant and can stand in as Veterans with 2 meltas and apothecary support.
The big guns.
to your left, calvier support, never used since calviers are ehh on supports and rotorcannons, often used.
meat of the force. Including contemptor, praetor, esoterist, and command squad, aswell as medic consul

Many thanks. Now inbetween searching for more storage for my armies, i decided that it'd be prudent to produce ever more models that require more storage.
Grenadiers with 2 sniper rifles and sergant with boltgun.
Grenadiers that will get 2 PG's added in and run the vox to guide artillery.
As an aside i really like the new cadian kit with WGA helmets.
gobert wrote: Those masks are creepy! They shall make a cool bunch of renegades.
The Alpha Legion are immense, the whole bunch look amazing! Alpharius AND Omegon would be very proud gene fathers!
Honestly, i am really proud for what i achieved with them. Especially since they are basically really easy to do. Something about that blue is just photogenic i suppose.
Anyways, more masks you say
They are incidentally also already fieldtested, did ok.
gobert wrote: So you should be, thankfully I’ve not seen them in my sleep… so far
Those big guns are really cool, though I’m not sure I’d like to be sitting in that seat. The recoil would be worrying even with the attenuators!
That is a question i also had. My current theory is, that the shell ejection, will inevitably kill the gunner and the replacement gunner is put in place. Afterall shells are expensive, 30k / 40k humans are not.
Shells are expensive and the false emperor won’t protect you! Not sure how that shell he’s carrying will get in the breach loader, so the gunner is probably safe! . Still freaked out by those masks!

Booo!
Spoiler:
Except clearly not as well manifactured and the "people" behind these seem to not conform to human bodies either.
But i got to admit, creepy smiley gunner scares me aswell. So i put him right in my new showcase next to my bed
"we interupt the mandatory saturation of shells, with breakthrough news! Happy riders. Well mostly happy."
Also some sneaky git infiltrated and watched them before i even put them in my blog. Which literally 2 minutes and getting a coffee from my machine means someone stalked them....
I just realised, that my whole gameplan is basically german shocktroop doctrine of WW1 combined with infantry tank doctrine of WW1 britain and france...
MILD CONCERN.
Anyways, Sentinels with either AC / or ML.
and more arty , shells for the shell god.
next up, crew and 30 more grenadiers to finish up my infantry.
Could you elaborate on the gameplan vs doctrine concern ? I thought that both the german side shock trooper thing, and the FR/UK tank doctrine both worked reasonably well for a WWI theater ?
True, the allied did keep the same doctrine for the first years of WW2, which was kind of an issue ^^.

True, the allied did keep the same doctrine for the first years of WW2, which was kind of an issue ^^.
Because sadly in HH / 30k gw decided to nerf artillery into the ground hence the whole shock aspect kinda dies before it does. Also a single Malcador hardly survives 1-2 turns at 3k standard games, or even 2k or 1 k
But again, this army is for fun moreso than for more compettve play, so it's fine. I merely observed that i gravitated torwards those strategies, and i rekon between fire concentration, and surpression strategies i may actually win the occaisional round. The only mild concern i have is that the enemy i will face most often is a salamanders and NL player and militia already is kinda bad but against those two forces in particular if designed according to how they were... well... let's just say i will need some really amazing dice throws
Ahaha I see thanks for the explanation. All I can add is that as an EC player, it is important to look good even in defeat, and your army certainly will look good !
Also, for some that are interested in how i plan and do project forces, well here's what i start with:
Faction choice. Dark Mechanicum for 30k as allies to my forces. In this case, of all my forces, i want this to be the most corrupted one. The centerpiece will be dictating my looks, and in this case i want to go the way of the decimator, which will get repainted and based.
Then, check what i've got, cue decimator.
Check what i need. Since this is predominantly supposed to be an allied detachement i need an HQ and a Troop choice. However, maybee i feel the urge to field more daemonengines and expand the army into a fully fledged monstrosity.
Check what i can substitute sice we are going an highly customisable way here with dark mech: f.e. the castellax is merely the most common castelan type robot of the ad mech in 30k, therefore the less sophisticated 40k Castelan is a perfectly fine substitute with some work.
Could i however use the venomcrawler? Then i start making size comparison pictures and compare them to what i find online. F.e. Can i technically substitute an HQ an arch magos, with a lord discordant? etc etc. What about kataphon breachers into myrmidax units?
So i make some pictures and then start searching. Plan out a first list.
HQ This case, Arch magos, Myrmidax, 155-200 pts
Troops.
Castelan, 95 probably modified with a darkfire cannon or MM. 115
Myrmidon secutors 3 with double plasma so 150 + 60 = 210 pts. / another castelan.
Anyways, for those that may be interested here is how i plan and start a project propperly.
As seen above i checked some hights.
Today i nailed down the look of the core units i want to field. The look i want is the sketch of the hooded head with a decimator type face.
Spoiler:
there's also a spoiler for some other forces in here, the one getting it right get's to suggest a name for the Magos.
i checked base sizes, as it turns out Scyllax guardian bots come with 40 mm bases, the HQ options / baby magi come with 50 mm bases. This is the most important step base sizes and size aswell as unit coherency are the most important things if you field a basically fully converted force.
So back to the list. Since this is an allied list it's 1 HQ (mandatory), 2 Elites, 4 troops (1 mandatory), 1 Fast attack, 1 Heavy support.
Since the whole force is supposed to mimick the decimator face look, i either A need to find a way to create such a face or B, find a kit perferentially multipurpose that has bits in it that i can use to get such a face. So, honestly, there's only one model that serves well as an arch magos, and that comes with a 50mm base to boot.
Now, in the sketch you see me write down Nighthaunt, because there's one face that especially seems to work. The one center front resepctivly the one directly above it. That would leave me with 10 night haunt bodies.
Now what do i do with them: Answer, Scyllax guardian automata. Not only can they carry Rotor cannons, and just like autocannons rotocannons are a personal favourite. No, they are also automatons profiting directly from a baby sitter, very good at protecting my arch magos and providing firesupport. So how do i mechanise them? Rust stalkers and Flayed ones. Both are kits that fit the eery esthethique and can be used to give them legs. Especially the flayed ones kit will be very usefull with it's damaged pieces.
Not only grants this for the kitbasher some more bases but also, Hands, blades, and more guns with which we may convert the Arch magos, but also use the little magi included in the castellan kit, which will be the mandatory troop slot to create an auxilia and some servo servants.
Special weapons come from the HH special weapon kit.
gobert wrote: Looking forward to seeing you throw some paint at the masked guard. Will their masks be possessed glowing monstrosities or sacks a la scarecrow?
The same as i have already done, so metal, rust and glowing eyes.
This dark mechanicum list sounds awesome, the Scyllax from the nighthaunts/flayed/stalkers sound particularly cool.
Many thanks, it's merely to show how i churn out decent sized projects from start to finish. And also because dark mech is fun and most importantly all hail the rotor cannon. Also hardly the first to use the bladegheists for dark mech scyllax. Probably the first though that hands them rotor cannons and proofs that one can come darn close to peak dakka.
However since Yriel yellow has dried up, i can't start painting the 70 infantry 6 artillery and 3 sentinels to finish up my militia. (until a plastic malcador shows up that will be the whole army.) ( I create my Beige with snakebite leather thined down with a lot of water and a dot or two of yriel yellow.) So i bulk ordered all the models required and paint.
I also did some digging as to colour shemes, generaly dark mech is either grimy dark red, or black robes, which... OOF.. WHAT HAVE I DONE.
Black like white painted to a decent standard means S U F F E R I N G...and i am one of the clowns that solely handpaints even vast quantities as this blog has demonstrated. Come to think of it, i guess i must have started to like painting. Anyways, finished Masks and priming done. Soon there will be piles upon piles for my Militia.
But then i will have to actually learn how to paint black... oh no...
This looks set to be a very cool army, I'm excited to see how you get on. I've been tempted to use those nighthaunt for various minis of my 40k admech. Those servomechs look brill.

Many thanks, now that all has come in, first the militia army.
Well step 1 done.
Next up metal. but probably not all in one go.
For those curios,
3 medicae, 7 discipline cadre. 60 grenadiers, 6 (12 men) artillery pieces, 3 sentinels and 10 cav. and 9 HWT.
Total man power painted in tan; 104 and some equipment.
Hell of a process, one color at a time for the whole army, but you are making such fantastic progress. I love your conversions - nice and simple, but effective. Looking forward to seeing the next color.

Metal done.
gobert wrote:Just keep painting, just keep painting! Metals always seem a massive slog to me and I don’t paint in anything like that big a batch!
Metals are a slog if you don't know your strenghts. Mine are none hence i paint slopyliy hence i chose a sheme that benefits from it.
Nice dedication to doing the entire force one color at a time. I cannot wait to hear how your gaming buddies react to you dropping a complete, newly painted army.

Oh they already faced parts of it, and happen to be salamanders players in a system were salamanders are basically the equivalent off the doom music kicking in when facing either solar auxilia OR militia.
However, IDC, since this is a milita army centered around Artillery with a flanking component.
Symbol legend. Arrow forward is a sargent.
Numbers are infantry, Triangular numbers are Fieldguns. X and number combination are flanking units. Medicae are arrow nurgle symbol on head.
infantry units V - VII, grenadiers. Can be supplemented with either Plasmaguns or Meltas.
medicae
Discipline cadre for every single squad, Equpment: Autopistol, refractorfield carapace armor and a power sword. Because Killing marines is fun.
Anyways, since i have to clean up the showcase father rust is in, i will probably do my army shoot tomorrow when it is finished.
Also, it's insane to me that i have nearly a quartr million views on my blog. Sheesh.
This force is complete until plastic malcadors are a thing.
Model count. 60 grenadiers. 60 militia infantry. 17 command squad members. 7 medicae, 7 Discipline masters, 1 force commander, 9 HWT, 9 Field ordnance batteries, 10 cav, 3 sentinels and 1 malcador.
The army looks great together- as a mentor once told me "In mass lies perfection". The colors are great, the skill to paint them is evident, but the whole of them together- even broken down by platoon and type- is almost more than the eye can comprehend.
And best of all: the army is done. No remnants on Mount Shame waiting for 'their turn, their time'- all done.
Congratulations. Rock on! Now 'arise, go forth and conquer', as Alfred Loard Tennyson instructs us. For the Emperor!

Väterchen Rost is Nurgle. Well the stagnation and decay parts of it
Many thanks for your really kind words. Next up will be darkmech, i have to go dig around for some bits to convert things but i rekon it could be a really nice looking project aswell.
Congrats on getting the army finished! They look amazing all ranked up. Extra kudos for free handing the squad markings too… and you did it in white! Do you have any basing in mind or is it on with the Dark Mech(magos looks aces too)?

They have completed basing. I got a desert table so sand some rocks and maybee a bit of barbedwire and some grass is good enough imo. So yeah i am on with the dark mech
Tommygun1918 wrote:That's a lot of work, I wish I was that motivated.
propper planning and then sitting through it will get things done
Anyways smoll Magos either auxilia or just second HQ and a first kastellan which were in the HH mothballed but i rekon a magi toying with well, decimator construction will probably also experiment with the older modells of the normally available casttellax. Which is incidentally what this will be a count as.
My bad! I didn’t zoom in on the phone screen and read them as white (must be my old eyes!). The shield on the castellax counts as works really well, nice choice

As a forced connaisseur of glasses, i know the pain. Yeah the shields fit perfectly and i still got some.

Many thanks Captain. At some point i have to reenter the terrain game...
Anyways. Slightly possessed formerly mothballed and upgunned Kastelans.
KernelTerror wrote: Very very sweet, good luck for the painting ! What are the matches for though, you do not plan to put them on fire do you ? That would be heretical ?
unclogging the glue of my choice.
Burning the small metal bit of it free, since i have an unfortunate habit of touching the plastic with it and then clogging it since its a solvent(?), typicall plastic glue.
What an excellent colour scheme, that orange works so well. The Sauron eyes on the Kastelan robots are brilliant. The additional visors and the armour plating make them look very fearsome.

Many thanks you three. Funnily enough, it's the camera that massivly improves the scheme not the scheme itself. Atleast when you look at it from close.
Anyways, Finished the bunch and the decimator. The friendly face of the operation The fuel of the operation The normal perspective
And the finished force
Many thanks for looking.

Fully magnetised, tommorow i need to greenstuff the little bit in the middle and finish them, so as to start painting these until the times FW delievers my next pile of shame.
