No idea where the sheep came from, unless he somehow glitched his way out of the pen (not unlikely).
Also, everything was fine last night, fethed up this morning.
I lost some iron, gold and at least 6 diamonds in one of the periodic "rollbacks" - I mined the diamonds, but the server reset my inventory to just before I mined them (I respawned almost exactly where the diamonds had been). Unfortunately, the world didn't reset.

There's a building called the depot which is next tot he brick police department building near the center of town.

So much I could say to that...
The Suburb Creeper Defense Force base is now almost operational (need moar weapons/ammo), with a firing range, watchtower (with snow golem guard), chest full of building materials (will later be full of food for sieges and medical equipment), chest of weapons (ATM just a few bows), 5 stationary snow golem turrets at each corner and one along a side, then three iron golems in the back, released by a switch.
I've put rules next to thier end of the base, but no letting them out unless you're under attack by any mob bar creeper, no hitting them as they are expensive (36 or so iron a piece), and if they escape, don't try and get them back unless you're Iustis, avatar or me, but instead pen them in (they're three blocks high, so a one block high circle and a 3 block high roof will stop them).
I lost a lot of stuff on Saturday night. Stupid death (emerged from a hole at night, almost immediately mobbed by mobs), but I then didn't get to retrieve it in time thanks to server crashes. :( Lost a diamond pick, 30 obsidian, 29 lapis, 40 iron, 8 gold, and every other slot was full too (mostly cobblestone or cleanstone). Mostly my own stupid fault for heading out via a new untried route rather than taking my newly mined stash home by an established safe route, for sure... but the server crashes really don't make death runs very viable.
@prototype_X, yes! Most of my underground stuff is at least partly inspired by Moria... I love finding huge arching caverns, and neatening out the lower sections a little (replacing dirt sections of wall with stone bricks, but leaving cleanstone sections intact; getting the floor more level and topping it with cleanstone slabs). I already have an extensive underground cavern & ravine system that I've done a lot of that too, and that I'd be happy to use as the starting point (just, er, south of my beanstalk, I think). Were you thinking underground, overground, or a mixture?

Sorry Jamba/Ian, I checked this out and although there was a server crash after you died, the crash didn't occur till 12 minutes after you died. Items despawn after 5 minutes, so you didn't lose your items to the crash, they were already gone. Maybe bury your treasure like a pirate next time, until you make a safe route back? :-)
I need to go do that myself. I have some sections of cave to explore in my home still (which themselves will probably lead to more caves; if it were anything other than minecraft it'd be a wonder that the entire thing hasn't collapsed down to bedrock).
Hopefully this will give people an idea what I mean when I say it's too long and we need to widen suburbia up. I want 16 groupings in a 4x4 square eventually...
Fair enough, Dark -- thanks for checking! I did keep getting logged out during the death run (4-5 times, probably), but it must have been down to my intermittently faulty ADSL line rather than the server. (My ADSL provider has offered to escalate the fault to BT, but my experience of BT is that they are liable to send an engineer over and charge me £150+ for failing to fix the fault.)
Automatically Appended Next Post: OK, anyone who wants to help turn my home into dwarven halls can come here:
That's the entrance canyon, but there is a lot more where that started... I can rejig the entrance area a bit so that my personal stuff is stashed just off to the side, to make the area as a whole into more of a group project. There's ravine after ravine in this area, as well as several abandoned mines that we could reclaim, Balin-style.
Hopefully this will give people an idea what I mean when I say it's too long and we need to widen suburbia up. I want 16 groupings in a 4x4 square eventually...
How would you feel about having some sort of canal through it? Expanding further will eventually block easy access to the sea by boat, which I know is a little unimportant due to the sheer amount of portals, but having some sort of ocean access would make more sense.
If done right a canal would look pretty nice, and would help to split the place a little so it doesn't just look like one large square of houses.
I quite like the canal design, possibly draining into the sewers, which my manholes will link to... what I'm thinking of for the sewers is this kind of this (cross section view):
BBBBBBB
BEEEEEB
BEEEEEB
BEEEEEB
BBEEEBB
BBBBBBB
stone Brick, Empty, with the bottom layer of E's possibly being replaced by water.
I was also thinking of a dodgy area in the sewers, much like the riften ratways from skyrim- with much past experience in this, I'll be happy to lead/build this if it gets the go-ahead once the sewers are complete ^^

Oh god the implications...
We are gonna find half the map is just a thin layer of dirt over a massive chasm...
Anyone know anything about what happened to the third Iron Golem?
I've only had one report, and that's of Kaptain_Khaos seeing it in the roof of the SCDF earlier.
If nobody else has any information then i'm going to record it as an bugged escape followed by accidental drowning, as he's nowhere to be seen, and the building is close to water, so he could've easily wandered in.
Ok, i've taken up a new project, uncover the overviewer map so there are no ugly black streaks/holes, incidently I uncovered three massive (possibly linked) Jungle biomes
They're down in the bottom right corner of the map, about 2-3 days walk from Not-U's house (which is awesome, although I may of locked the enchanting room...)
Also the Battlefleet in the top right corner looks really cool.
Looks like not exploring out that way has payed off then.

They do that when they touch walls sometimes, additionally it is in their AI to avoid water and they are unable to drown. It is possible it may have accidentally wandered in with slabs as a bug, but that may mean it is wandering at the bottom of the ocean now or walked to shore and continued from there.

I'll begin diving for it in a bit, but there's also this.
Iron Golems will attack wolves even when the wolves are tamed.
I remember seeing some around so it'd be easier to start the search around town before resorting to a long search underwater. Of course if it is down there you're not getting it back. Then there's the various caves.

If you're talking about the tamed wolves by the huge Jungle tree they're still there so I doubt they killed him.

Hmmm, didn't know they made it so they can't drown; last I checked (a while ago, admittedly) they could.
If anyone sees a wild Iron Golem anywhere, please follow the following steps: 1) Do not under any circumstances approach it. It may be feeling lost and confused, and your presence is likely to anger it. 2) Alert other players using the chatbar and this thread. It is recommended that at least 2 players of reasonable ability be on hand before attemtping to trap and subdue the golem. 3) If the above requirements are met, trap the golem by placing blocks immediately in front, behind, and to the side of it, so that it preferably occupies a square of 4 blocks. Place non-gravity affected blocks directly above its head. 4) Once contained, update the situation, and provide the co-ordinates of the trapped golem for so that it can either be retrieved or safely destroyed.
I don't know if guys already knew, but there is a rumor that in adventure mode Pyramids with hidden treasure and mummies will be added, and that is apparently the reason for the new sandstone. Just rumors though, so don't take that as solid fact.
Also, just wondering, who keeps on entering 'Da Toolshed'? I went back there in the first time in a week and, let's just say, all my gates and doors were open (except my tower)
With the farms I understand, but my private area?
Also, I know it can't be me as I haven't been there in a while and when I do enter it, I enter through my tower, not the main access point.
Could the person griefing both the surburbia build/furnace area AND the buckland path please either pay restitution or repair the areas if it was creepered.
The Buckland path was I am assuming, creepered because the radius taken out was irregular, but the suburbia build area was blocked with dirt.
Also, someone took approximately 20 torches off the buckland path. Those torches are essential to the path, as it is the only thing preventing night attacks.
Give me dates and times of when it was last ok and when you first saw things out of order. Without these dates/times, you might as well just say "something bad happened!" :-)
I think Abso was just messing around with Leiah (she mentioned something about him with dirt earlier) with that, must have forgotten to clear it after he was done so not malicious in intent.
If anyone working on the Suburbia sewers would like to see an example you can feel free to visit my city. i have a portion of the sewers finished with water and light
n0t_u wrote:I think Abso was just messing around with Leiah (she mentioned something about him with dirt earlier) with that, must have forgotten to clear it after he was done so not malicious in intent.
The only time I dirt-blocked Leiah was in Leiah's suburban home, and I removed the stuff afterwards. I try to clean up my minor pranks afterwards.
However, I did see that the furnace room right next to the 0,0 portal had dirt on the doors. I assumed that was some intentional anti-zombie-noise security measure and left it alone. That wasn't me.
So no sighting of the elusive iron golem... some say it stalks the plains, hunting for its brethren and killing wolves for food... others that it wanders the sea bed, grabbing unwary divers as they explore the depths... and there is a select group who have taken to tracking it, but have only found paths mysteriously blocked by dirt, preventing passage whenever they near...

I put the dirt on the furnace room doors, and for several reasons: 1) It seemed to serve no use, what with Suburbia a few blocks away, no signs that listed ownership, and nothing that really allowed it to be anyone's home. 2) It was completely unlit, making it a spawning haven for mobs. 3) It had wooden doors, meaning that zombies could easily break them down for other mobs. 4) I had no torches on me at the time, and got sidetracked afterwards.
EDIT: I also did it a few days ago, which highlights the sheer disuse it sees. EDIT2: To clarify, I didn't do it once then again, I did it the once and it went undiscovered until now.

Iron golems don't take on creepers because they might blow and destroy the city they're sworn to protect, they take out other mobs, while the snow golems shoot the creepers ^^
oh yes, one on it's own does nothing, but 6 of them in a position that the creeper won't blow can certainly hurt it.

Don't pay your dues and your building will 'accidentaly' be creepered, that's the real reason you guys have TNT, isn't it.

That's why the Suburbia PD keeps its stash of TNT locked up.

Where exactly would we donate these supplies? And how does one go about becoming a member?
The game is good but you will likley get "griefed" in multiplayer what basicly mean you building will be destroyed by some child who has nothing better to do.

I remember not knowing that light was essential to keeping mobs away, so I built the smallest dirst house I could that houses a crafting table and furnace. Every so often, I'd break open the roof to see if it was morning yet.
When morning finally came, I was terrified to see my roof was covered in spiders that wanted to eat me. I accepted that I'll never see sunlight again.
winnertakesall wrote:I was just thinking yesterday, who remembers their first time on minecraft?
On SSP, not much apart from moving too far away from spawn dying and spending the rest of the night on a dirt pillar. On SMP, helping lego and yak with the building of "Dakka 000", otherwise known as "the sanctuary".
First time in SP, charged headfirst into a creeper with only a fist...
Guess who won...
In SMP, NOT on the dakka server, I made a massive tower, surrounded by trees (in 1.8.1), which later became a villiage.
My forest tower had a neighbour, which then became 2, then 3, then 4...
Then 1.0.0 came...
The whole place turned into a tundra....
I made the tower using endstone....
My friend burnt the forest down....
then, yeah, massive fights over snow golems, and to this day EVERYONE thinks I killed it, sure, I was next to it when it died, but creeper = cactus farm = dead snowgolem, and almost me, too
First time on Dakkacraft...
Um, well, the first thing I remember is getting lost in the nether, then dying, and building a home in a creeper hole....
In single player, I actually never played single player when I started out, this was way back in 1.7.3 when food wasn't an issue. I was born into SMP, on a different server, on the skylands map. I didn't know anything about glitchy mobs and things, so I just thought that was minecraft for everything, little did I know the buggyness of smp. First time on the Dakka server, I collected materials, and was well enough prepared until I wandered into Darkinnit's big house, where I fell to my death and couldn't find my way back again.
Oh, and I first played minecraft at 1.3 in march last year, and joined the server a month or so later when it was made... good ol' times... for some reason I always like starting MC, the first few hours are always my favorite...
Poddled around and had NO idea how to build anything... Come night time i had to build a house that was this
O = Open Space
X = Dirt or wood or something...

Me and my GF Propriuolz (for anyone who can remember her) Joined at the same time, dark showed us round we were amazed. We then travvelled far away all the the way to Grundz Place and Darks big crazy Library then when we kept dying, Shrike and Corpses got annoyed with my constants shouts of " Oh you F*cking C*nting Creeper!" They offered me a place in the Manor which we both accepted and we moved in. I offered to help with something and they gave me free run over the Manor Public Mine. Enchanting room and toilet escape route.
Sugar Cane farm (2 stacks a harvest)
Wheat Watery farm (alot)

Then i expanded and added on Janjes A-maze-ing Maze
This was apparently a "deathtrap" and "impossible" and people would scream "omg Janje get me out >.<!"
so i made it harder !
Then i started to build the Melon Giga Farm, which would have been great.
Then i got banned cus i took James stuff from his WOOLEN house cus it got Creepered and i took the valuable stuff so it wouldn't get blown up and lost... After dying 5 or 6 times in the Nether and losing most of the stuff I was trying to bring, I have finally arrived in Suburbia. Nice digs y'all got goin here.
Mel,
Is it cool if I clear one of the back plots of trees and get to work? I lost most of my stuff on the way there, so I need the wood. And also, one of the few things I didn't lose was 2 stacks of wooden fence that you are welcome to have.

This. I went WAAAAYYY out of the way, and never bothered setting a nether path. Just ran like a mofo towards where the center portals were. Ghast got me twice, fell into lava on my own once, and a magma cube knocked me into lava. I'm sitting at the finish line with a stack of wood planks, 2 stacks of wood fence, 16 pieces of track out of over 4 stacks, some glowstone, melon, and cobblestone. I might need to make a secondary house somewhat nearby just to gather materials.

Isn't that your plot? As long as it obeys the rules, it's fair game.
There were a few empty plots in the back row that i littered with trees as a means of making them look alittle nicer, and provide lumber for new folks.
Built myself a functional house until I can make a few more suicide runs from my old house. Losing so much stuff its ridiculous. Also made a ghetto version of those intersection lights with netherrack. Needs to be lit though if someone could do that or replace it with proper lighting. Also made a small contribution at the supply depot.
I've got a birch and regular tree farm below my house (though the regular tree farm is crap, since I rarely end up with many saplings after clearing it; I can plant 33 (a full farm) and end up with 10 saplings from clearing it, whereas i've get a tonne from my birch farm) if anyone needs wood.
Might be able to get a fir farm running at some point too, and perhaps jungle if the fir doesn't take up too much room height-wise.

Like we did for the haloween party. It was never finished AFAIK, so, if corpses says yes, we could recover that and build a proper nightclub in suburbia.
I think the park will work nice . I have a disk player on my house's speakeasy which I can move in to the park to play music, and I can always bring a lot of potions and such for drinks, heh.
T'was me- a creeper was hiding behind the tunnel entrance and it jumped me when I was there :(
but only a bit of black wool and a bit of the bar area was damaged, so nothing valuable much- just wood and slabs.

Bar is sort of one anyway.
Spoiler:
Though the park looks better anyway and it's out in the open in the Server's current community project.
I think we could just use the park, perhaps temporarily using fences to make tables for cakes and a stage for the DJ (the fences don't cause the grass underneath to revert to dirt), or even using one of the roads, temporarily blocking them off to traffic, for the same.
If you want to build a nightclub, I suggest you build it to the side, rather than closer to the haunted house.
My first LP on the server, and my first video too, please don't be too harsh on me, I'm only learning to speak out more. Please give it a like or subscribe, I would really appreciate it!

Your microphone is a bit dodgy but otherwise that was a pretty good video
I think I might start working on the Disco next time I'm on.
I'll have to check to see how much glowstone I have. Should be at least a stack, so that would make a 16x16 floor, add a wooden border makes 18x18. Is this big enough, or should I go glowstone hunting?
Okay, another iron golem's gone. It was noticed about 1-2 hours ago, and unless they're despawning, someone is either letting them free or killing them.
I was thinking of starting this game, but not buying it straight away. If i play the free version (multiplayer) would i be able to get into contact with you guys?
Deminishment, you and I need to chat in minecraft about violated building codes and what to do with the huge underground complex that links your two properties by going through numerous other peoples' properties.
Cleared out everything useful now. Tunnels are an empty shell (lit though, so no mobs should spawn), was wondering if you want me to fill them in using stone, or if you'd prefer the stone for the town? Got over a double chestful of it.
I think if anyone has any of the mossy/cracked stone brick, if we decide to use brick for the sewers, they'd be an ideal use for it, or even if we stick with cobble, mossy cobble would look quite cool...
Hey Sky, I'd suggest talking and showing off the Netherways- that's something that's actually fairly unique to the Dakkacraft server, as far as I can tell- and regardless, it's the location of some of the better architexture on the server as well.
You could tour the Netherways on your way to the Mesa if you want. Let me know if you want me to be on while you do that- I have no mic, but can chat type really fast, and you could narrate. Mesa's one of the more impressive sights on the Server, I think.
I often do server tours (and I have a mic), so I'd be happy to wander round... It'd take an hour or two, but you can always skip the majority of the walking...
shrike wrote:Okay, another iron golem's gone. It was noticed about 1-2 hours ago, and unless they're despawning, someone is either letting them free or killing them.
I accidentally killed one yesterday, tried telling you in game but you were talking to someone else. I have 2 blocks of iron in my inventory to help make a new one.
Stole a stack of arrows from the CDF after slaughtering several waves of zombies, creepers and spiders making their wave into Suburbia. Will be building more defenses when the server comes back up.

I was thinking of making more things like that, namely snow golem turrets at the entrances.
need roughly 3.5 stacks of obsidian, I'm paying 30 iron or 64 redstone per stack. Any smaller amounts are in the ratio of 4:10 (iron to obsidian) or 10:10 (redstone to obsidian).
also, a certain patch of tilled soil won't let me grow melon or pumpkin seeds on- after about a minute, they just pop off of the block. Any ideas? There are 5 other dirt blocks next to it, which are in exactly the same conditions and are fine.

Well I can arrange to have a skype call sometime with each of you, or in anvildude's case, narrate while you type. Just PM me and I can see if I can do it.
So while attempting to fix a block of missing dirt in the park my client started glitching and i fell below into the water. While trying to get out it locked up MC causing me to drown.
Log back in and quickly attempt to get my gak back, only to have it happen again this time taking my laptop with it.
Reboot and login, get below the water line to see all my gak despawn.. and then the client froze again.
feth you Minecraft. feth you.
Any chance I can get my 3 stacks of dirt and cobble back or my Iron Armor set?
The Dakka Disco is now fully operational and accepting reservations:
Spoiler:
Switch outside turns the light show on/off:
Spoiler:
One problem: whenever someone uses the /time command (for example, using "zzzzz" to reset night to day), the redstone clock that powers the whole thing burns out until the next reset (it can be fixed, certified redstone engineers can send me a PM). So if you're using the disco, I suggest turning the lights off if someone decides to reset the time (only need to flip the switch, the light show takes a while to wind down).
Located around -80, -200, and there's a nether portal near the 0,0 portal (nether coords. -10, -25)
Cyp: I'll give you some iron tomorrow. I think... 8+7+5+4 or... 3 iron blocks will replace your iron armor? Page dark and whenever he gets back from his trip, he'll have a record of what you need returned. Unless you want to bother lego about it, but I think Lego is busy enough with just the website.
Melissia wrote:Deminishment, you and I need to chat in minecraft about violated building codes and what to do with the huge underground complex that links your two properties by going through numerous other peoples' properties.
That was my idea, sorry. I was unaware that we were not allowed to make underground structures. I'll dismantle it. However, I purposely dug down as far as possible to avoid any problems.

I had this happen but managed to reglitch back into the sewers somehow. Not going to try replicating that feat.
lur_tae_mont wrote:how do you Divvy up plots? How big is a Plot? Ect ect.
This is all about a community project that a lot of people have been working on. If you want in, you have to build in a confined space with strict limits on what you can do.
If you don't want to do that, find an empty spot, mark out a boundary and start building. There is lots of available space. Just look at the map.
There should be plenty of stuff at spawn to get you started. Or you can grab some food and get started on your own.
Phyrexia and I destroyed our tunnel system Mel. Also I started digging down on my plot to add more levels and I ended up digging into someone elses 'base'. So I have walled off my areas and claimed all the items inside. If you want what ever is inside back please contact me in game.
So I've began marking off my plot all the way down to bedrock, so don't be surprised if you find a stone brick wall blocking off a tunnel you've been using. I'm surprised at the amount of people who have underground bases. They're all over the place.

Was the base made of birch planks?
I'm pretty sure it was just a hollowed out complex made out of stone.

Good, I just wanted to make sure I didn't go over the boundry
For the two (?) of you asking for your first plot, ask on the server! I'm sure someone who is actually on the server at the time will help gladly help you (most of the ones who are working on suburbia are the ones who are ont he most anyway). If not, ask in here and someone (me, if I have time) will volunteer to help.
I'd be on MC now if it wasn't 6 in the morning.
I'll be on in 2 hrs, though, and I'd gladdly help anyone, I mean, there isn't much else to do besides wander the streets finding lightlevels below 8 and placing torches down...

If someone had the underground base before you arrived, you should ask before blocking it off and taking over.
It was mine, and he's just taking his alloted place. I vacated all of my underground stuff after realising it was against rules, left it lit so it wont spawn mobs in the meantime.
Just a heads up tho. I've noticed some people have started building near my mines, and I wouldn't want someone to suddenly block me off, or sneak into my area.
Well, TBH Biccat, your mines are over under several other peoles' already pre-existing properties anyway-- ones that existed well before this group project started. So that's a dispute I personally am NOT getting in to.
I will gladly encourage people to expand the other way, but none of them seem to actually bother to listen to me.
