Don't forget your boat.
You're right! I need mah boat!
Actually, I'm just miffed because I had to go back to my house to get coal. But still, seriously, who takes coal out of a furnace where stuff is cooking?
The Minecraft server is probably going to be very laggy for the next week or so because LegoBurner is doing maintenance on it. Might even be longer, just "as long as it takes".
And fully protected areas take all the fun out of the game. I played on a server where you could 'protect' pretty much anything, and so despite it being a 'survival' server, everyone was more concerned with making stuff look good than with keeping things whole or repairing stuff, and ended up building dozens of little towns all over the place, where nobody actually lived.
I need to make buildings closer to other peoples' buildings sometime so that I can link them with roads (at the moment I have no real use of linking anything with roads as it 's too far away, essentially). Dunno, I enjoy building roads and bridges.

As do I, which reminds me. Would anyone mind if I extended the sort of "bridge" I have at my house out to the path at the manor that extends out to spawn? I marked it out in torches and meant to ask but forgot.
If that nice forest is to be preserved and the bridge still allowed I could always just make it a gravel path or something.
Here's the current bridge.

Here you go (I must say this Dinnerbone they hired from Bukkit is a good little bugfixer):
Re-adding the ability to get glass blocks with Silk Touch.
Dinnerbone added the option to go back to the main screen after 'Saving Chunks' or 'run out of memory'
Dinnerbone limited framerate on menu screens
Dinnerbone added a feature "you will love"
Dinnerbone fixed some bugs:
Fixed TNT ghosts in multiplayer
Fixed thin ceilings/walls leaking light (off-by-one error in block light calculation)
Fixed text rendering over items in the container screens
Fixed being able to change a block's metadata using pistons (wool, stone bricks, slabs, etc)
Fixed enchanted items in minecart chests, furnaces & dispensers losing enchants when destroying the container
Fixed paintings destroyed while sprinting dropping two paintings
Fixed exploit with jungle saplings turning other saplings into jungle ones
Fixed being able to grow huge jungle trees with only one jungle sapling
Fixed the "flickering" of chat as it vanishes off the screen
Fixed godmode exploit on SMP where someone can become invincible
Fixed launcher opening minecraft dir if the path contains a space
Fixed fatal crash for converted worlds to Anvil, when there's blocks at max height
Fixed an old bug with signs clearing text while you're editing them in SMP
Fixed incorrectly swapped en_GB and en_CA language details
Fixed crash when logging in while there are blocks at max-height at spawn
Fixed server throwing an error on connection
Fixed entities sometimes becoming invincible on SMP
Fixed entities being uninteractable if they existed at login on SMP
Fixed crash bug when trying to connect to invalid server addresses
Fixed regular server crashes
Fixed clicking 'Open texture pack folder' button crashing the game
Fixed being able to place mushrooms in high light levels
Fixed redstone lamps dropping powered redstone lamp when destroyed while on
Fixed being able to change a block's metadata using pistons (wool, stone bricks, slabs, etc)
Fixed exploit with jungle saplings turning other saplings into jungle ones
Fixed being able to grow huge jungle trees with only one jungle sapling
Fun while it lasted I suppose.
Fixed being able to place mushrooms in high light levels
May need to rearrange my plant collection then if they drop.
It's nice they're fixing so many things at once though, even that new annoying ceiling lighting one.
The Dakka Minecraft server runs on a "behind the scenes" Dakka server. This server was beginning to run low on space so they had to migrate everything off it onto a shiny new server. Hence the laggyness while everything was transferred. The Dakka Minecraft server will be moving with it eventually, but if you're using the web2.dakkadakka.com address to connect it should be fine...
It could actually be used for an interesting mob trap if you have a switch that causes the ground beneath the door to open up to a nice drop or perhaps a drowning trap.. Perhaps 2x2 or 3x2 to get the spiders?
After all the mobs would gather around it because they can see you.
The server just crashed and I lost all my stuff, could you please replace it? I had full diamond tools minus a hoe and an inventory filled with cobblestone.
How'd you even get on the Server? Nothing against you personally, but normally it's required that you hang around Dakka a little longer before getting whitelisted.
If I can get at least two more people we can go find a location, section off some land between us, and make a really nice looking town. My place is nice and all, but it's secluded so it takes a while to really get involved with anyone else's project.
Well there's one. Start looking on the map for a nice place to build it (want to build it close enough to spawn that it doesn't take five minutes of walking to get to from the spawn portal, ideally), and if you find a place ou like, suggest it. I'll be looking too.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The island at -255x, -1270z could work for it, though it's a bit small. Further up at -655x, -2000z has more room but is over twice as far away, but not so far away taht it's hard to get to.
I'd say just make an actual Spawn Town. It's rather useful, and would be nice for when folks start off, if they want to make their own little place there.
I'd be fine with making a "spawn town" but we'd need to keep tight control on it.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also we'd need dark's permission.
Anyone want to work on it if dark approves? I'm thinking a suburbia neighborhood like space, with 11x11 squares set aside for people to build on and 3-4 block wide streets between them, each. Each plot of land belonging to a different person.
Lol, next time I'm on, my first priority is vines then getting stuff for this town(if Dark approves....)
What sort of road design are you thinking of, Mel, something similar to the one at the spawn?
What we could do is have each plot surrounded (under the ground, of course) with Obsidian- maybe edge or make the roads from it? (3-5 blocks wide, with yellow wool/glowstone middles?) That way, if anyone makes a house that's too too terrible, we could move their stuff, and TNT it away.
As I said, I'm not doing anything, not even any real planning aside from what I mentioned before, until I talk to Darkinnit about it, cause building near spawn is a nono otherwise hehe. I'd like the edge of the neighborhood to be within sight of the welcome sign if possible.
Deminishment wrote:The server just crashed and I lost all my stuff, could you please replace it? I had full diamond tools minus a hoe and an inventory filled with cobblestone.
Let me know where your place is (P.M. me if you want to keep it private) and I'll look into replacing it.

Building near spawn isn't a nono. If you mean the transition to 1.0 when I said I wouldn't copy existing buildings to within 500 blocks of 0,0 then that was just for the buildings I was copying. You're more than welcome to build anything you like at spawn, as long as it's not a big cube of some plain material.
I actually think it'd be neat to find the edge of where you can build (due to Server things) and put a cube or dome of black wool/Obsidian speckled with Glowstone over it. Make it look like a night sky.
We actually ought to build a Golden Throne at 0,0, really. It's the beacon by which everyone navigates, after all.
Hey, Dark? At around 9:44 PM on the 19th I was on for a bit, and while working on a Nether bridge, glitched off the edge and fell to my death. Fell to my death trying to get my stuff back, too, (as I've not been able to re-set my spawn) and I think I lost about 2-3 stacks of Netherbrick (and an enchanted sword and a potion, but those aren't terribly important.)
Actually, I'm with Abso on this one. That'd be a brilliant idea- very Dakka, and useful enough. We've got to make sure to make all the corridors and hallways and streets as twisty and impossible to navigate as we can, though- 1 block thorofairs and the like.
we could build both, next to each other, the woods next to the hive city would be prefect for the village, not to far from spawn, not to far from everyone else, relativly flat...

Sorry I have no way to tell the difference between "glitched off the edge" and "forgot to hold shift" so I won't return the items because I can't tell if you just fell to your doom on your own or not. Besides, 2-3 stacks of Netherbrick is not a lot really...
Oh, I was only asking because Netherbrick is non-renewable. Sure, there's plenty in the ruins, but once it's used, it's used, and if it's gone, it's gone forever. Even if it's just given to someone else, that'd be fine.

Hey! Don't make fun of missing netherbrick! It has rights!
Dunno if that is easy to read due to its size, but essentially, 11x11 blocks which are designated as the owner's property, with 3 blocks of grass between the road and the property (an overhang over one of the grass blocks is fine), and the road itself is essentially stairs, two slabs, then more stairs.
The properties will be in streets of eight properties as shown, to save space cause the roads are pretty big.
Anyone else have any input in the spawn suburbia? I'll be selecting the location after we've got it planned out.
Like the design you showed earlier Well, I have tonnes of glass, and I live in a desert, so when I'm next on, and you've desided fully where it will be build, I'll place a chest at the site and put my glass in it
I updated it. Also we might include fences (or iron bars to represent chainlink or metal fences) in the middle grass block between houses if you guys want.
I'm gonna encourage everyone to have at least a minimalistic home-- you don't have to use up all 121 square meters of space, but it would be nice if it filled up at least one block.
As for what I need.... stone brick, dirt, wood slabs to start it off with, and about eight signs.
Stone brick for stone brick stairs for reference. This is what my "road" will look like in the default skin:
The stone brick stairs will be flush with the grass in the suburbia design-- we could also make a one block wide sidewalk of cobblestone or stone brick if people want.

Neat little World Tree you have there kingsley.
oh no, it's not mine, but I will be making something like it, just not as large.
Also, that hut could be mine, from when I got lost in the tunnels, I cam up near there. It was gwetting dark so I started to build a shelter. Then I went to get more materials and got lost...
Then found and tamed some wolves, who brought back a creeper for me to play with....
It's a ~20x11 or so house made of wood planks with a small melon/pumpkin garden in front and some glass pane windows, and a staircase leading up to the roof.
Something like that. ALso the interior of the house is pretty blank and unfinished.
As for where, I posted the coords a couple posts ago, but essetnially it's somewhat off of dark's bridge, on the opposite side of the bridge from janje's filthy ugly ass maze. Not sure if it's within sight of it though.
Just making a request to all you folks out there , I am looking for red brick, if you have nay for sale let me know how much you got and what you want for it !
I've got some Wolf, and raw clay, I'll check precise quantitys tonight for you, and i'll take iron/gold/redstone/wood/stone bricks/cobble/coal you can spare, I don't really use it, it just takes up a chest.
That looks good Chowder, and we could just incorperate that house into a plot
I hate that hypnotoad meme. Then again I never found futurama to be exceptionally funny (it's okay but it's not worship-worthy like some people think).
Anyway this morning before class (which I'm in right now) I set the foundation for the first home and some of the walls, ran out of wood though.

I have around 50 stacks of wood in my desert. I'll find the hole to the secret entrance on the map.
Anyone else fancy working on a Fairytale Wood, just north of my Beanstalk (which will, as already mentioned, have a giant's castle in a cloud on the top, once I have enough wool for the cloud)?
It could have big bad wolves and dwarven grottoes and woodcutters' huts and gingerbread houses...

There are now three places opened up in the suburbs (just outside the 0,0 portal and very close to spawn, nestled against the corner of Darkinnit's bridge).
Some rules:
1: Don't build entirely out of cobblestone. Vary it up.
2: Don' build so that your building connects to the fences. You have an 11x11 space to build in.
3: Don't build massive towers without approval. I'm thinking ~30 blocks high, maybe fourty, would be a good limit. -- UNLESS you ask first. If you have an idea in mind, talk with me about it.
4: If you want to build an overhang, like the demo building I have constructed in the first lot, please be sure to not let it get directly over the fences. The fences are the boundaries between plots, so they belong to no-one technically.
5: Be creative within these rules!
6: Be sure to light up your place and be mindful of keeping creepers out. This is a respectable community and we have no room for riff-raff like creepers.

Been struggling to get on the server for most of today. It shows as available via the server browser. I connect, nothing happens. I go back to the server browser and the server is unavailable... anyone else getting this?

Whoa. That Wooden Plank update is amazingly useful.
On a related note, I hope all my creations don't suddenly turn into harlequin-wood-structures. All existing wood has the same block code anyways, so this shouldn't be a problem, I hope.
I should plank-down all my collected logs so they match colors for now.
Also:
"Cats will jump up and sit on chests, beds or lit furnaces
Chests can't be opened with a cat ontop "
Funny...
Sorry I haven't been on much in the past 4 or so months, but I've kind of lost interest in the game of late... I might be on a bit more if there are any community projects going around and people are online or anything...
A lockable chest that can be accessed from either room and is locked by a cat who is in the room above. The top half blocks are only there to prevent people from viewing the room above through the slit on the top of the chest (as it isn't quite a full block in height).

Activity is rather healthy. There is almost always at least 1 person online, and sometimes gets to around 8-or-so on weekends.
I set up that portal a while ago. It goes straight through the highest point in the nether to my citadel. I'm planning on making an Eldar-ish Craftworld high in the sky there soon. I tried to choose a place in the middle of the water so it wouldn't block anyone's projects and wouldn't cast a huge mob-spawning shadow.
The portal isn't connected to the nether system proper. It's at y=111.
Is it a problem?

Yeah, Zombie Pigmen seem to not pick-and-choose who to hate anymore. If you aggro a group in multiplayer, they're hostile towards ALL players.
Not too many though they seem to be able to control their numbers by wandering off. I think it'd be kind of cool if eventually it meant golems spawned in the halls for guards. Villagers could be shoved into the walls if they became a problem.
Also at the end of town there seemed to be a sort of sandstone guide thing to see what they looked like. I've put a plank of each colour with a log of their type on top there as a guide thing.
ok, tomorrow I am:
Staring to de-assemble the top parts of my cobble-tower
Finding Vines
Finding 1 more diamond
Getting Birch wood
Starting my house
and If there is time, get black, dark and light purple wool and obsidian (if I get the diamond)
Obsidian and Diamond... If you're making an enchantment table, to save you some time, there is a public enchanting room directly opposite your cobble tower, underneath the "Giving tree" (just take the stairs down from spawn).
darkinnit wrote:Obsidian and Diamond... If you're making an enchantment table, to save you some time, there is a public enchanting room directly opposite your cobble tower, underneath the "Giving tree" (just take the stairs down from spawn).
Oh, no, I have one already, I'm just planning some Nether-Portal themed (and ender themed ) Pixel art
I do apologise. Who ever owns the large house near the sphere in the sky, i went inside for a wander and to have a look around. A creeper and a spider spawned inside so to avoid causing any explosions i went up a ladder and had to escape out of the wall. You may find that there is a few blocks missing. I figured that this would cause minimal damage rather than have half of the ground floor including all the storage chests blown up... My apologies...

We have two slots open and sometime this weekend I'm gonna finish at least two more, although I don't have the proper amount of gs and rs for the streetlamps. I'm hoping almost everyone who builds on the server eventually (IE over the course of the year) gets a small place there, but at the moment I just need to know how much effort I should put in to expanding it immediately.
EDIT: Also, what's the restriction (if any) on building beneath the plot? Still no further than the fences on top? Some sort of seedy underground system would be a cool edition once we get the top up and running.
Sure, go put a sign down on one of the empty slots, or start building whenever you want.

Automatically Appended Next Post: I jus realized that I need to move one of the sreets over by two blocks. This will be extremely annoying . Thankfully I have yet to put down any lamps yet.
TL;DR four plots are going to get wider by two rows whenever I get around to it.

That would be me.
and after roughly 5 months of not being on (apart from one day where I helped ash build his castle/church), I managed to make it on for a few hours and built a new house in suburbia. I only need a bit of encouragement to get onto MCATM because I've finished most of my PC games and I don't have much 40k to do, long may it last.
4oursword mentioned to me a while back via PM that his friend built Frostoman constructed a refinery near my place, but was dissatisfied and it may come down soon.

Over the past few months, this refinery has come under severe disrepair with much of the wood irregularly burnt away and a creeper hole in the main structure.
It's somewhat of an eyeblight and I'm thinking about expanding into it. I'm just wondering if Frostoman even still uses this structure at all. I'll take the decommissioning all onto myself if needed.
Suburbia PD is mostly built, Its getting late and the hubby is yelling at me to goto sleep...
Mel, if ya don't like it where it is/at all, feel free to blow it up.
It just needs a roof, and to be stocked. There are labeled chests inside for Weapons, TNT, and Lights.
I've started assembling books shelves to place an enchantment area within it as well.
There is also the issue of blocks layout for the streets, 0,0 Street breaks up normal the flow of roads, so I stopped it at the park, and started to build the next street over. This creates an oddly shaped parcel of land that might be good to use as a Tree Farm, or for someone who wants to have more under ground then above ground.
Who exploded a small area near my farm? I would really appreciate knowing who it was and why it happened (assumedly creeper but just wondering). Thank you.
Doctadeth wrote:where is your farm? That could have been me.
Just spoke with who it was, so no worries, t'wasn't you, but thank you for the concern. In case you care unrelated to the incident, my farm is near Abso's Citadel.

Seeing as we're both banned, do what you want. It does need removing.
Mine is the one with the 3x1 iron blocks above the front door (a sturdy iron bar to ensure the stone of the rest of the house doesn't collapse, see). I did put a sign outside it, though it doesn't look like it's there any more, from the pic!
But really honestly, people are starting to grief. My path has been vandelised (dirt blocks dug walled in at buckland) and panes smashed. Griefer holes dug. and my little stash also has been lifted of 4 diamonds (thought I wouldn't notice did you).
Not really, it may be a case of what happened earlier to me. An over excited Enderman picking up melons and stacking them around the place; breaking vines.

All of the melons are in place, all of the vines are missing. None of the tilled soil has been disturbed.
Mel, do you mind if I make a kind of manhole hatchway to the sea below on the corner of the pathway by my house? It's not on my plot (about 2 blocks out of it), but I figure it'd save a bit of time instead of swimming to the edges of the suburbs to the surface.
For the record Dark, I 'Wasn't likely to Die', I was building sections of Suburbia and fell through the bottom 15+ times drowning followed by a number of server crashes/restarts while trying to get my stuff back. I lost alot more the then the single stacks of Brick, Iron, and Wood Slabs I asked for.
Cyporiean wrote:Mel, if ya don't like it where it is/at all, feel free to blow it up.
I do believe I okayed it where you said you'd build it before, sooooo...
Doctadeth wrote:Also Mel, I would like a plot within Suburbia. Not going to build any obsidian structures, I have an idea.
We'll make a plot for you. I've been asleep.
purplefood wrote:My house is the one with vines and trees...
It's a treehouse!
(Next to DWhitey's house)
Yes, your house is the one that needs to be better lit because it keeps spawning monsters everywhere. Also?
Please don'tgrow trees that have leaves which grow over the street, at least not so close to the ground.

Yes, server crashes have been annoying when tryign to retrieve lost stuff.

Ok, ok, I'll give you the items you asked for, but you think you would have learned after the first 10+ times you drowned?

I'd recommend you fill in the water with gravel if so many people are drowning due to currents.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Mel, if you give me permission I'll use creative mode to add at least a "basement" layer" of at least 10 blocks under the land, unless you want the water there?

It was a combination of stubborness, and poor luck. Also a few of those were trying to help Mel and ET get stuff...
Actually, no sorry I am incorrect. He said the ground was still tilled an it was. That sheep is untilling the ground so it wasn't the sheep. Although a sheep there is not helping.

If you have stocks of gravel to donate, I'll be glad to take them.
You could also create the basement, if you want. Though I should warn you waht we're expanding it to is fairly large...
On something this big, I'm not gonna turn away good help without good reason, hehe.
On the map, look up and to the left of zero zero. I don't know when the map was last updated but it should at least have the beginnings of suburbia on.
Starting work on the SCDF (Suburb Creeper Defense Force), a branch of the since extinct dakka creeper defense force, which will have a department in the police station. No blocks yet placed, we're just gathering materials.
also, 5 manholes/air pockets are now in place across the suburbs, not an eye sore (IMO), and are quite useful, I think.
Mel, just been on for the first time in ages, and Suburbia looks really good.
Can I please have a plot to build on? I assume I needed to ask you first.
As long as they're not an eye sore I don't mind them.
Man, You guys have put in so much effort, it kinda helps me relax lol. I used up all my stores of cobblestone, wood, and coal to make the streets thus far.

The manholes might be useful if Dark adds his basement level. Access to a seedy under-suburbia, or just escape routes would be cool if nothing else.
I'm fine with a sewer system. Make it out of smoothestone and it'd look quite nice.
Hell actually cobble would work for a sewer system, it's not meant to be pretty anyway and it's underground so I don't mind. Or cobble floors with smoothestone walls.
I just died a stupid death and lost 3 stacks of glowstone, three enchanted axes, two enchanted picks, two enchanted shovels (all iron), half a stack of cooked steak, two soup bowls, a set of stone tools, a full stack of fences and wood, a stack of cobble, and a few other things.
And I can't even ask dark to replace the stuff cause it was an entirely natural and stupid death... :/

No idea where the sheep came from, unless he somehow glitched his way out of the pen (not unlikely).
Also, everything was fine last night, fethed up this morning.
I lost some iron, gold and at least 6 diamonds in one of the periodic "rollbacks" - I mined the diamonds, but the server reset my inventory to just before I mined them (I respawned almost exactly where the diamonds had been). Unfortunately, the world didn't reset.
