I hope he missed a day because he was busy printing up and glueing my printables! (I have decided I will attempt to bully Vik into being my official guinea pig)
lol... still no chance for me deamon to try your stuff out... but it is planned for definite... the recent days have been a bit complicated for me... wife is still at home so we need to make some entertaining stuff for her... walks in the park, go swimming with the kids, some shopping stuff... and so on... hobby time wasn´t that hard hindered by this but i kept quiet for being a bit tired in the late hours of the day... also with the wife at home no dakka log on at midday as this makes my wife go a bit tetchy^^
but i was quite a bit productive on the L-competition project... how and to what extent i want to show you tomorrow... maybe i am even able to update in the middday nap of her one must be sneaky^^...
as for the printouts of yours... tomorrow i will go out and get me new ink for the printer and then i will do a test print with your patterns!
LOL... you don´t know how hard it is to sometimes have to filter what you said or she said to say to ye lot...
and no... she realy isn´t at all... you ever had to face a tall girl? not big... tall as in height... girls of a certain height tend to be more quite than smaller girls... and my wife is 6.10 feet tall... so a rather quiet person... but don´t cross her... she can pack a mean punch
well update time here in this lil thread of mine...
here you can see some metalworks on the towers...and i begun the work on the bunker door frame... also added a wallmounted double weapon... hopefully two smaller gun emplacements will follow once the basic structure is built... the current look is only dry fitted... so later on...maybe towmorrow i will spray foam the pieces in place...i hope i wont ruin everything with that... i think i need to mask some parts for this to be on the safe side...
the only thing i am currently unsure of is the size of that base compared to the terrain piece itself... behind the structure we see now will be a mountain... so i think the place in front might be a bit cramped looking...
thank you all for the bubble turret... for me i really like that shape...!
by the way... i am not sure hat kind of weapon system it will be...
and i like the comment about the instant fertilizer... that was cracking me up!^^
and hazzer... lol... well i hadn´t had that much of them when i was young... well actually back then they weren´t even invented yet^^
thank you not_u... have you joined already? i am a bit fuzzy with all peeps who have joined^^...i think you should^^
on a side note... the riveting process of the steel clad towers has begun... i worked and aplied many rivets on the first tower...till my suply was depleted... tomorrow hopefully i can make more... time again is the bottleneck as ever... but even my wife had offered her help in producing masses of rivets for my needs^^ (i am a lucky guy^^)
i can only hope that we are all... just imagine if we were all alike... and then one day i would be confused if i was still me or ...well... you... becasue then i would be in the wrong place... jsgfbabsdgj
lol bama... nope... there will be two fully roveted "can" towers... and then there will be the cupola...which will get PC rivets...and the bunker entrance part and all guns will get the rivet treatment too... will this then suffice? i dunno how many these will measure up to... too many to count... for every rivet i have to count i can´t rivet 10 others...^^
the love for rivets is developing over time...that is true dear bubble! but the process of riveting takes for hours that after you started with riveting you will succumb to the riveting wholeheartedly anyway... once you rivet you can´t stop^^
hey RW... nice new avater...back to you... that is totaly cool looking!
hazzer...word!
true shaso...! the Omnissiah is very big on recycling these days^^
hey fatty... yeah high time we move on for the highway to hell^^
at RW... after i saw your recent update i probably have to second that... but if you change it now...then use the banner my friend... that would be cool looking^^
hazzer and shaso... never thought about waffels and my riveting.... but indented rivets are probably that then^^
the two towers are now fully riveted... tomorrow i will then begin to work on the cupolas... they need riveting and detailwork ...after that there will be foamwork...lots of it... i will suply pics later on...maybe even tomorrow midday CET
mmmm...Indented Rivet Waffles loaded with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, and smothered with strawberry sauce, fresh strawberries, and sprinkled with Rivets!
you mister have surley served a hard time as a royal torturer somewhere... that was such a mean way... the fridge is empty and i have no way now to get my appetite for that satisfied... darn....*shakes fist*
didn´t said it was bad... totally badass rather... i am a vanilla ice addicted ... try this... get a glass full of fresh orange juice and give it a good coup of vanilla ice inside... let it sit for a while... we call it smooth angel... you will love it!!!
Those Empire to Cadian Kitbashed Steam punk Guardsmen are sweet! Glad to see I'm not the only one inspired by the last WD pistolier head on Cadian body kitbash. I'm going to have to work some of these guys up myself!
dave is right... tho i can´t claim that idea even back then for my own... saw it here first... but well i think it is quite an obvious idea...
on other news.... the cupolas are riveted too now... i just now need to figure out some topping on these... should look a bit like a mix of tesla coil and something like this:
but here is the current look of the tower... the other one is looking the same...
Ohohoho this thing is going to look so good when it's all gunmetal and rust and peeling paints and other things which totally do not reveal me to be a filthy industrial goff type person.

and failing a good windmill... then i want to have a lighthouse... that is very cool....and you have the sea in front of your window... something i would love to have...
can i has old german panzer tank and install a shower and well live in the tank park where i want and have slow speed chases with the police. And of course its covered in rivets so i would feel right.

I am buying a de-commisioned missile silo in Nevada in a couple years. Gonna turn it into a craft mall. The silo is 9 Stories deep. i figure I put a hobby store of different types on each store and have a WH40K and MtG tournement areas on their own floor.
A Michael's, A HobbyTown, A Hobby Lobby, Maybe get a GW store in it and a RPG/TCG Hobby store too......
Then on the other side of the silo in the three story underground command bunker I will have my home.....
Right there with you, Vik. I'd much rather run and die tired than hole up and wait for somehting way more horrible. Have you seen the 6th Ed rules for buildings / fortifications? Great at protecting you against small arms and not too bad against some heavy weapons, but get a Flamer stuffed through a firing point? Yeah. Bring lots of BBQ sauce.
that souds as if realism is finally catching up with the game? i need to earn a bit till i am finally able to get me the rulebook... i think i only own the fourth edition at all... and some codecies... so when one future day the gaming might start.... then i need a whole lot of books and time for reading^^

There really are Missile silos for sale as reconditioned into major multistory homes.
Reassessing my original thoughts... I would so completely love to live in one of those! Getting air to the lower levels might be tricky w/o a good ventilation system.
The ventilation system is usually in the lower levels in mst setups. No need to relocate it when it is remodeled into a home. The best ones are the ones that are close enough to the public waste/water and electric systems so that the silo doesn't have to run constantly on tanks and generators....
The problem is the main staircases don't go all the way down, mostly. They only go down about 7 floors and then you have to do ladders or very small narrow stairs designed only for maintenance. makes the usable space sparce WAY downstairs.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Can you imagine a WH40K table built to look like one of these?
Hey Viktor, you mentioned in my thread earlier you were interested in having me do some brickwork/metal floors, do you have any examples of the sort of thing you need?
shaso has sent me a nice care package... from a most awesome looking sack full of cool bitz i drew a collection i want to make you most envious of:
ten full sets of spotlights!!!! that man knows what a man might need^^
these heads and arms i would like to get explained where they are from... never came across these...
whoever says these are not interesting looking bitz is not knowing the half of it... and has no imagination
from old school bitz to totally awesome sought after bitz like those IG shoulderpads...(they are highly valuable to me!!!) to totally cool and inspiring bitz like that thingy on the far left...the totally cool bit of a headset!!!! and even a spare ork magazin!!! how cool can it get???
and last but not least OC barrels and rough rider fit bases!!!
awesome collection... and i think you got the lesser deal^^... thank you very much...shaso! that was a very nice moment for me when the postman rang and will get even better once i can include these bitz to any cool project... !!!
and...
hey daemon... well basically the once i currently build from pink insulation foam...
yup... and these pics are only some of the gems shaso sent me... in fact the stuff shown here eaquals only a fifth maybe sixth of all the goodies inside...
That's a wicked haul Vik! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you wind up doing w/ that stuff.
Also, you just reminded me of something I pulled out of my collection 2 nights ago and thought of you. Drop me a PM w/ your address and you'll have a new surprise on the way.
One thing I'm liking a lot (and will continue so long as I can avoid being a slacker) is how we're doing business the old fashion way- trade / barter. I could sell a miniature on eBay for a few dollars, whatever. But trading it w/ a Dakka bud, ESPECIALLY a -=]_,=- member... that truly creates community.
at daemon... will take measurements later on! promise!
at skalk... yep... that is what i like to do too... even in RL so to speak my wife wants often enough to sell stuff at ebay... but me being the realist in the family... i see what sells and what not... and sometimes giving used but still good toys to our nursery school is better than sell it for the odd €... which if bad luck hits you can even lead to lots of unamusemnt...
helping out friends makes you feel warm inside!!!
and dave... the last two days i got sidetracked... now that is something you have me motivated anew!!! now i need to rivet something...^^
and RW... for now i have not really a clever plan...
first i have to do some serious groundwork on the competition project... it is not forgotten you know?^^
oh and to LDD concerning the arms... will see about that... but they are very tiney indeed!!! smaller than IG arms by far... they could maybe fit for a scratchbuild halfling tho...
Viktor von Domm wrote:the bitz are all super! there are even some daemonettes heads i´ve found inside...these will be usefull for an upcoming zombie project...
No prob glad to help, plus I knew I had seen them before i did not realise they were that small DAM shame really
Never mind though look forward to seeing some more updates on those lids I don't think I will make the competition in time due to the DIY and gardening.
Plus I had 2 ideas not the greatest but not bad, i even got the lid I wanted for the project today
but i was looking for a cool idea to maybe use them all in one go bat signals... lol... you lot...but those would be better if done in a scratchbuilt... now there is a thought for someone without an idea for a small lid related competition entry...!
Viktor von Domm wrote:of corse i could and probably will do so shaso^^

I have seen them used on Stompas as eyes for the massive bots
You could sand of the detail on the back part of the lights, stick a handle on it and hey presto some cool turrets for Steam Punk vehicles at least thats what I would do with them
LDD and dave... splendid ideas there... the boiler idea i really like... and the eye thing... might be big... but heads might be possible...
did a lot of riveting today... i currently tackle the bunker door... needs more detail and of course rivets^^... but i need to get faster with that build or i am not able to finish it in time... the last days i had definatly slacked hobby work... needs to be redeemed asap!!!
pics later this day!

hello dear followers of this thread... the last coupla days i have been not really that productive...
that was then this is now...^^
took a big leap and nearly completed the peaks of the cupolas... both... as the thread name declares still all in a certain steampunkish air...
here are...
the current look... all glued together save for the cupolas to the towers... behind the doorsection you can see how i built up the mountain that the bunkerbase is built in... more to come on that matter later on...
the current look of the doorsection... more details and technical gizmos tomorrow... lots of^^
satelite dish... still not finished yet but definatly on the way...maybe needs some more wires and cables...
and the tesla peak... my favorite part of the whole terrain piece...
sadly lots of rivets are falling down atm due to the glue not really sticking on the lego lids... that needs to be fixed soon... for good...
thank you LDD... i am currently working on some communication detail and extra texture for he door section... i finally tried to use a bit if flymesh to create a meshlike structure on the door... remains to be seen how much detail that provides...
and well zinge stuff waited in my bitzbox what felt like ages... once it is finished i will post it on kits thread too...those tesla coils never did get the right attention they deserved^^
Vik thats has to be one of the best uses for the coils i have seen to date, the ball at the top makes it really work though, as n0t_u mentioned I thought that was the intention of electricity.
This is going to be a master piece me thinks, I think you have my vote
at not_u that is the plan... the big ball will be a giant ball of electricity... the wires and the ball will get a suitable coat of LGS soon to that the texture later on helps to create that bubbling effect of energy... the whole thing should later look as if a giant discharge of energy will soon happen...
and dave... i have two smaller sets still waiting to get used of these coils... one day^^

I don't think it looks great, but passable
but yeah, the picture was taken with my window open on a cloudless sunny day, with a desk lamp shining on it, but my room tends to get pretty terrible lighting no matter what I do. I tried it with flash, but then it's way too bright to really see anything apart from the shape.
on topic, great work, Vik!
maybe have a couple of the spotlights pointing outwards on it?
good thinking shrike... i think that is much needed... after all this bunker should also be able to defend a great tidal wave of z`s and that´s easiest done with enough light
at not_u
i was rather thinking of a small tesla tank... but then again as i have even a real small set... this could be a good option too to make more rivettos...!!!
on a related note...
i tried to fill in all those awful gaps that have been building up with spray foam... well...yucky stuff that it is... i tried to install the muzzle of said can and ...it broke of... a totally new can of spray foam no unusable to me... and i had such clever plans... i tried to push a screw inside... and get a bit of foam out of the can... yucky times i had... well now i scratched most of the gak away and it needs to cure to finally work some more on the piece... i am so angry!!! well i have already a backup plan but this needs to be done with all that sticky stuff taken away...and thats only possible when it is fully cured... so no work today and since i did that in the cellar... the whole piece now sits cooling down in the cellar... and no pics made of all the other wok so far too... darn...
well... i am now in serious need of being cheered up...
hmm... i could try... but i bought it ages ago...and really do you keep the receipt of such small thingies? ... well it is certainly worth a try... and i have the slight suspicion i will need it in the fullness of time anyway... when my son gets to school this stuff will come in handy for some schoolproject for sure... vulcan anyone?^^
i had that thought already too... it is a strategy we have adopted to quite often recently... really it is an us against them world when it comes to bsuiness...^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:i had that thought already too... it is a strategy we have adopted to quite often recently... really it is an us against them world when it comes to bsuiness...^^
We just have Homebase and they are pretty cool about bringing stuff back even without the receipt but why should you end up out of pocket because of poor design or craftmanship
aye! our hardware store is rather cool about those things too...well nowadays you either be friendly to your customers or you are pretty lonley in your shop...
Viktor von Domm wrote:hmmm... polite and friendly and even cool retailers in the UK? sounds freaky...
Its about the only one, and it might just be my local store thats that good
I cheated by the way Vik I have bought some Victorian style Lamps from E bay for my SP victorian theme army Its all down to you mate and the inspiration from your projects
Once I get a display piece together I will post, along with some WIP pics, I am working on some small dioramas at the moments but don't want to show till done
Viktor von Domm wrote:i was rather thinking of a small tesla tank... but then again as i have even a real small set... this could be a good option too to make more rivettos...!!!
tesla tank sounds epic- in fact, Nikola Tesla was in the process of making a tank which fired a tesla beam capable of taking out enemy aircraft from 200 miles (it's range only limited by the curviture of the earth), but died before it could be finished, and no one's managed it since because most of the data was in his head. (didn't stop the FBI taking all his stuff and locking it up, though).
I think that if you're gonna have a reason for your weapon to not have longer range, the planet it was built on not being good enough is a pretty damn good one
Viktor von Domm wrote:and shrike... well the FBI? sure not the CIA? sounds more like their scheme...
nope, t'was the FBI in it's early days (back in the early 1900's)
here's what Tesla said regarding his 10,000,000-volt death ray of pure awesomeness:
"[The nozzle would] send concentrated beams of particles through the free air, of such tremendous energy that they will bring down a fleet of 10,000 enemy airplanes at a distance of 200 miles from a defending nation's border and will cause armies to drop dead in their tracks."
Of course people seemed to just laugh at him instead. Also not a tank, but I don't doubt it wouldn't eventually become mounted on one.
Nikola Tesla, one of the truly great inventors who celebrated his eighty-fourth birthday on July, 10 tells the writer that he stands ready to divulge to the United States government the secret of his "teleforce," of which he said," airplane motors would be melted at a distance of 250 miles, so that an invisible 'Chinese Wall of Defense' would be built around the country against any enemy attack by an enemy air force, no matter how large.
This "teleforce" is based on an entirely new principle of physics, that "no one has ever dreamed about," different from the principles embodied in the in his inventions relating to the transmission of electrical power from a distance, for which he has received a number of basic patents. This new type of force Mr. Tesla said, would operate through a beam one- hundred-millionth of a square centimeter in diameter, and could be generated from special plant that would cost no more then $2,000,000 and would take only about three months to construct.
A dozen such plants, located at strategic points along the coast, according to Mr. Tesla, would be enough to defend the country against all aerial attack. The beam would melt any engine, whether diesel or gasoline driven, and would also ignite the explosives aboard any bomber. No possible defense against it could be devised, he asserts, as the beam would be all-penetrating.
High Vacuum Eliminated
The beam, he states, involves four new inventions, two of which already have been tested. One of these is a method and apparatus < section not legible eliminating the need for a "high vacuum;" a second is a process for producing "very great electrical force;" third is a method of amplifying this force, and the fourth is a new method for producing "a tremendous repelling electrical force." This would be the projector, or the gun of the system. The voltage for propelling the beam to its objective, according to the inventor, will attain a potential of 80,000,000 volts.
With this enormous voltage, he said, microscopic electrical particles of matter will be catapulted on their mission of defensive destruction. He has been working on this invention, he added, for many years and has made a number of improvements on it.
Mr. Tesla makes one important stipulation. Should the government decide to take up his offer, he would go to work on it at once, but they would have to trust him. He would suffer "no interference from experts."
In ordinary times such a condition would very likely interpose an insuperable obstacle. But times being what they are, and with the nation getting ready to spend billions on national defense, at the same time taking in consideration the reputation of Mr. Tesla as an inventor who always was many years ahead of his time, the question arises whether it may not be advisable to take Mr. Tesla at his word and commission him to go ahead with his "teleforce" plant.

Such a Device "Invaluable"
After all $2,000,000 would be relatively a very small sum compared with what is at stake. If Mr. Tesla really fulfills his promise the results achieved would be truly staggering. Now only would it save billions now planned for air defense, by making the country absolutely impregnable against any air attack, but it also would save many more billions in property that would otherwise be surely destroyed no matter how strong the defenses are as witness current events in England.
Take, for example, the Panama Canal. No matter how strong the defense, a suicide squadron of dive bombers, according to some experts, might succeed in getting through and cause such damage that would make the Canal unusable, in which our Navy might find it self bottled up.
Considering the probabilities in the case even if the chances were a 100,000 to 1 against Mr. Tesla the odds would still be largely in favor of taking a chance of spending $2000,000. In the opinion of the writer, who has known Mr. Tesla for many years and can testify he still retains full intellectual vigor, the authorities in charge of building national defense should at once look into the matter. The sum is insignificant compared to the magnitude of the stake.
lol...that sign would be nice but a bit inapropriate on a bunker hide...wouldn´t you admitt?
and well as i´ve in my school life sadly never heard of tesla one has to think about reality... was he really ever existing in that depictured form here or is it merely an internet hylpe of some form....
that article sure read as if we have to question his sanity... costs and power of said aperatus... well... to his defense...genius and insanity are sometimes totally overlapping

Awww!
Tesla existed, and invented flourescent bulbs opposed to Edison's Incandescent ones. Tesla and his idea of broadcast energy would have meant no profits, so his baker,,,J.P. Morgan pulled the plug on his research, and his lab was burned as well.
Yeah, I also remember hearing about how Edison had actually stolen some of Tesla's inventions and was more or less just really good at advertising. Tesla also more or less invented alternating current. Which saves lives if people come into contact with wires instead of direct, as you'll be thrown from the source of contact rather than stuck.
well recovering from last weekends spray foam diaster i took the classic terrain building aproach to making mountains... been done that way probably for millenia...
PVA watered down to milky substance and then brushed on tissue paper which then creates texture and connects and fills gaps... hides irregularities and such likes...
here are the hills...:
and the aforementioned doorsection i did with flymesh to create a sort of interesting texture for the main door...and a swich ^^
Edison was not a saint, he wasn't even ethical in his business dealings, but at the time (not unlike today in the US) Corporations pretty much did whatever they wanted to with impunity. Edison was in a long. drawn-out butt-hurt battle with Westinghouse over DC vs. AC current, lightbulb patents, and even the electric chair, which met with a horrible, slow, painful death for at least one inmate.
Well, Nikolai Tesla was kind of nuts himself, he was a germophobe, obsessive compulsive, and all the other stuff that typically comes with being a genius.
That's an interesting combination of household materials you have going on there Vik. Pretty amazing how you take the things you use and turn them into awesome pieces of wargaming excellence.
Crappy, 'cept for the MtG Open I attended. Oh, wait, I did horribly at that. At tleast I got some good cards. This week will see me back to work, though. So happy about that.....
well... to keep that thread back on track...i´ll show you:
browness in its fullest:
the cupolas are not glued to the towers atm... i want to spray prime them... and also i just had all the original rivets removed... well in fact they all fell off... so i used the pinning rivets methode to get the lot riveted... pics of that tomorrow...
note... the brownness is due to the fact that i don´t have a really good opaque enough cheap black paint... so i needed a first layer of my darkest paint ... later on i think the more watery black will darken it suitably and then i begin the drybrushing... tho i have thought about doing that rock as sandstone in a lighter brown...
Oh Wow Vik! That looks great! Especially the Steel Legion Drab/Graveyard Earth color on the rocks and towers! If you just lightly drybrush that up with bleached bone and light greys it will look great!
Automatically Appended Next Post: But if you are doing metallic colors, always use black first..unless you are using the new high-pigment metallics like Leadbelcher...I LOVE Leadbelcher
well currently it is just wet looking... it darkens pretty much on its own atm too... but i have considered this look:
Automatically Appended Next Post: welll actually the towers will be done in metal colors... but i have for such immense surfaces cheaper paints... and the brown i thought could be a good basecoat to later only drybrush metal on so that it looks scratched and rusty ?... i mabye add the odd textured spot of paint in plces to give a better hint at the rustyness...
well... i had a thought today... the penguin and santa tissue i used actually served as a way stupid looking camo scheme... because... what should a camo scheme do? obscure details... now imagine the tank at your base done with that scheme in mind... i bet no war would ever be needed to shed blood^^
and LDD... i am subbed and addicted to that stuff already... if i ever have enough soare money...yeah...right... then the robots of them will be a cool project for sure... trenchers goes without saying
thank you bubble... at first it was that i took what was there... the cheery penguins...well... but then it was fun ripping santa and penguins apart to later get them soaked in with PVA... maybe it was a long over due revenge for christmas presents i longed for and never got
well i actually had thought about that^^... but then all this hard work to have a tank that looks like hello kitty... i never would know where to hide my face in shame^^
Viktor von Domm wrote:well i actually had thought about that^^... but then all this hard work to have a tank that looks like hello kitty... i never would know where to hide my face in shame^^
HA! adam... good question... hmmm... probably not... but well rock has not many options for using rivtes on it... and besides... this is for the contest to use lids... and on that matter i have aplenty already^^... totally lost count of these^^
thanks hazzer^^
Automatically Appended Next Post: hello fellow lads and ladies...
the time of browness has ceased... detail work has been done...
see for yourself... and remeber... this is all still prewash...
and also... did a bit of LGS work on the tesla tower peak...
later this will be used as a means to have textured lightings ....
I think you could be onto a winner here, the paint work has really lifted the whole thing and thats pre wash
Though the tesla coil is tops my favourite bit …… so far the GS has added a better effect than I had imagined it would have, I was worried it might have fethed it up to be honest but I was wrong
Great stuff keep it coming, you never know what idea might creep up behind you next
All this lurking around other threads and no updates Vik I thought better of you
I have to apologise I have not as yet sent of the package But we had some bad news on Wednesday, a friend of ours passed away so things got a bit sidetracked
I will get it out to you Monday I promise, I will try and get to the rest of the stuff to do a comparison shot if I can find the stuff.
hey LDD... no need to apologize... dire news indeed... get yourself sorted out... the project is still developing only pics werent taken... not of the official stuff... tho i did spray prime the two cupolas today...and the tesla coil peak too...
the second peak is still not really something i can declare finished that´s why it didn´t get primed yet...maybe i need to redo it completly...

the lil greenish thingy i found... on a table of not anything more intersting... it spoke to me... and the idea of comsat was dead... who needs communication when you have the ability to know down spacecrafts out of orbit? ;P
well also...the cupolas got primed yesterday and received their fist coat of tin bitz today... and tomorrow if i have time will get a thin wash of a mix of scorpion green and linghtning blue... which i think could do well for some verdigris if i am not mistaken... sadly i don´t own hawk turqois...
