Poor old me i was casualy searching through google the other day looking for inspiration for my LATD army and low and behold!!! i find out that it is no longer legal. not only have heaps of my time and effort gone into making my army unique, ages of thinking yes one day ill get a ticket for a tournament and show my stuff. but sadly this is no longer the case. what also annoys me is that, the only place that it says my beloved army is no longer valid is in the new CSM codex, not even a mention in WD or on their website.

well thats my rant i hope that others feel the same.

O contraire. Great sympathy as I am in the same boat. you have several options:
*trash the army
*use light counts as rules
-guard using ogryns for big muties/conscripts for light muties or traitors with kroot or GH allies
-ork codex.

i was considering that all of those choices,but its not realy the same, but im all for that movment of yours

I'm sure you'll get a lot of leeway and sympathy from any tournament player you use this against. So don't worry if everything doesn't totally fit.

Umm... yeah... anyway, Lankington, my heart goes out to ya man. The LatD list was, in my mind, the single greatest thing to come out of that EoT campaign debarcle, and one of the most original, characterful and interesting lists they've released in quite some time.

For one thing, it was new. It wasn't just a different colour of Space Marines with some new rules, or a re-tread of an old list. Sure it had CSM's and Guard stuff in it, but it was its own list through and through.

Secondly, the modelling opportunities. I have 90 mutants in my LatD force, and each of them is a lovingly crafted and converted unique model that I enjoyed putting together from start to finish. I got to use everything from ancient Necromunda plastics, vehicle accessory sprues, Tau, Dark Eldar, Zombie, old plastic Genestealer Hybrid pieces, Ork, Guard, Chaos Marauder bitz - everything from my bitz box. It was great fun.

And now they're illegal. Fantastic work GW. Fantastic work.

i agree completly, when you go back to the eye of terror campane came around, all the armies featured (except caidians but they there time to shine a few months later) got brand new minis but what about latd? nothing, but those mutant packs that were only around for a month. but people made do, and the latd became one of the most characterful armys in the whole game.

It used tonnes of different miniatures.
Just none that people could point to and say: "Look, LatD sales!"

Army formations for Apocalypse seems to be the current
pasture for Ideas They Will Not Support. It sells minis to the
Apocalypse fans and keeps the ideas alive.

I am firmly of the opinion that we may yet see rules for lotd soon. Either as a cultist option of some type in the demon dex, or "chapter approved" entry in white dwarf. There is too much demand for traitor guard and such for GW to ignore this for long.

i hope there will be too, but with there own codex, that gives you the options of fielding all sorts of chaos armys that are not csm or purely daemons. thats what im hopeing for

Rules-wise you can always field LatD as Renegades as long as they follow IG rules. Just make sure to buy more IG stuff.

Then, take your Daemons and CSM and expand those into separate full armies.

Codex Daemon Hunters
Fallen IG = IG
CSM = Grey Knights (assume they're possesed)
Cultists = Witch Hunter Loonies (from WD)
Mutants = Kroot (who can ally with DH)
Demons = ??? Archeoflagellents? Kroot?

'snot great but it's tempting. And with screening back in 5th edition (according to rumors) mixed IG/SM armies will be a lot more viable.

well its a start something to keep me busy for a while in the meantime i'll just keep sending hate mail to jervis, untill he gives me my army back, hell i'll even write him an army list and make up some latd sprus.

Yeah, the best thing for you to do is send him a letter. Some of us have been including bits of empty sprue to underline their lost sales by this decision. Doesn't hurt to sign our online petition too, if you haven't done so already. There won't be any LatD coverage in the Daemon book, but we HAVE been noticed, and that's the first step.

To add to HBMC's commentary, the other thing the list offered was surprising balance. Oh, there were subpar choices and some pretty strong ones, but I found it really interesting how despite the huge number of units available, the end result was a much better balanced army that what was offered in the CSM codex!

My conspiracy theory is that GW scuttled the list because it was exhibit A for how you CAN have a diverse, characterful list full of options AND balance.

You could always start a support group.

The crazy thing is,

wether or not they realized a profit it keep the fans happy. They don'r have to produce anything they aren't already making.
They could take five minute to update the list or they could just say that it is only usable with the 3rd edition list.
