Death-Dealing Ultramarine Devastator

http://belloflostsouls.blogspot.com/2008/07/rumors-marneus-edition-and-more.html

Taken from belloflostsouls:

Marneus Calgar
First off, Marneus Calgar is described as awesome; the Abaddon of loyalists. Not simply because he's an outstanding fighter but because of the support he provides for his army. He gives all Ultramarines the ability to pass or fail any Leadership test (other reports say morale checks). This is a superior ability to Combat Tactics as that only works in CC and the marines can normally only choose to fail.

Marneus also has a rule called "God of War" which allows him to re-roll virtually anything (shooting to hit rolls, attacks rolls in assualt, to wound rolls). It is basically the psychic power Warp Time, but is always on and works with Marneus' shooting. His storm bolter built into the Gauntlets of Ultramar is AP2. Marneus had 4 base attacks on his statline and is armed with two powerfists. ~you do the math

Calgar possesses Eternal Warrior without any mention of a mantle. Power armour is apparently no longer an option for him, but his "Honour Guard" are still in power armor. Finally, he's wearing his Terminator armour with an additional 4+ invulnerable save.

I'm so glad they are beefing him up. I've only fielded him twice and those were during apoc games and everytime he has always been 1 shotted by some insta killing weapon...

Too over the top. Marneus is just another Chapter Master, not the end-all-be-all that Abaddon should be.

I mean, Logan Grimnar and Dante are supposed to be the cream of the Marines yet they seem average compared to Marneus. Eternal Warrior? Does an Ultramarine pick up the Gauntlets and become invigored by their power?
And here I was thinking that the Salamander's guy was too powerful. But then again, given the background of collecting the artifacts, he should be. At least he has a reason to be, more than can be said from Marneus.

Waiting for puns on M.C.

Marneus Calgar is the second most important figure in the Ultramarine mythos. The Ultramarines are the most dominant space marine chapter in the mythos. The space marines are the banner children for 40k. He should be over the top. He should be through the roof!

Normally I'd say something like 'already posted' or 'not news', but y'know what?

I don't care

My Half Brother not only deserves his own thread, but also all the cool rules that are coming his way and are long over due.

Next time I'm home to visit the folks, I'll be sure to borrow those Gauntlets for a try-out.

You're mad, and probably a little thick. Calgar isn't just bigger than Failbaddon, he's bigger than Jervis*. The only reason it's not called Marnues Calgar 40,000 is that the thought of 40,000 Marneus Calgar's is just too awesome for any mortal to comprehend, and their heads often explode.

Destrado wrote:I mean, Logan Grimnar and Dante are supposed to be the cream of the Marines yet they seem average compared to Marneus.

They're worse than average. They're pathetic next to Calgar.

Destrado wrote:Eternal Warrior? Does an Ultramarine pick up the Gauntlets and become invigored by their power?

Damn straight he does. But I don't think the rules go far enough. Whenever he suffers a wound that would normally cause instant death, the model that inflicted that wound should suffer Instant Death as punishment for even contemplating the attempt on Calgar's life.

Everytime I see the rumors for these characters I want to play 40k less and less.

Forever alone

Wtf? Abbadon is supposed to be as powerful as a primarch, the warmaster of all Chaos, and Calgar is just a chapter master. Who is writing this obscenity of a codex?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Who is to say that the Chapter Masters of 'today' aren't as powerful as the Primarchs of 10000 years ago?

Yoor Speeshawl too Gawd!

I hear his Giant Hands of Ultrasmurf make grunting noises as say Hulk Smash as he waves them around. I hope the Imperial Fist get yellow Thing Feet for Lysander.

^

The fact I don't see Logan, Dante, Marneus, or any of the others breaking a Bloodthirster's back over their knee and then throwing it's corpse to the ground. That is pretty much the alpha male standard in 40K fluff.

I want to ask Yak for permission to post this picture every time I read a complaint about Marneus Calgar's new rules.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game!

I should state that I think his new rules are ridiculous and are an obvious attempt at getting people to use his model, but since I play Ultramarines I reserve the right to pretend that this is 100% justified and deserved for Mr. Pimp Hands.

We should start a pool on what Logan ends up looking like. I'm betting a rerollable invulnerable save and a daemon weapon (the Fang of Morkai is one, isn't it?) and each unsaved wound causes D6 wounds. I mean, inflicting Instant Death is passe these days...

ah ha, that's what H.B.M.C stands for,

and it's either john Lennon stating the Beatle's were bigger than Jesus (which caused no end of trouble in the US),

or as a reference to a reference Imp y Celyn in soul music stating that the band with rocks in it was bigger than cheeses in Quirm a town famous for it's cheeses
