I don't think I'll win much by ways of objectives. If anything I can get a draw. I might reduce the number of Ogryn by 1 for each squad and dump the Sentinel for another MechVet squad.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?! This is bad! There is no hitting power. You can basically ignore the Ogryns and kill off the 2 Vet squads then waste the Ogryns while they flounder to kill anything back.

This part of the list is awesome and will bring much gatecrashing to many a dance party. Cruising speed move 12", pop smoke, with all three chimera & 15 Ogryns are a good deal closere to your lines. They can either make another 12" move or they can disembark 1-2", move 6 and charge 6". They have some fair crumping power and they wont go away. With str 6, most tanks are at risk. Also - why the preferance on heavy bolters? I think, as you'll be moving at top speed towards the enenmy, keeping the higher str 6 multilaser and getting a hull heavy flamer instead (for massed AP4 hits). Sort out your troops.. focous the entire amount of providing some long-ranged infantry firesupport. I dont think melta vets is the answer although three mechveterans with meltas (forget the carapace upgrade) could be good. Otherwise Infantry platoons. HTH - Dont knock it, it could work. What do you vs 15 fast tough fearless (essentailly) ogryns? hUH? Well?

Your ogryn vs. Terminators. You lose. Your ogryn vs. 60 orks. You lose. Your ogryn vs. a mobile force blowing your x-ports then gunning down the trash inside. You lose. They suck. You even admitted it's playing for a draw and you don't even have anything that might be able to get you that draw. Ogryns aren't a strong unit. They are very bad. You might as well be taking rough riders and Ratlings and call it the "LOLGUARD" list of fail. As to Razerous above about what I would do, well, only your mechvets can touch my LR's and I could easily blow their x-ports sky high and gun down the vets inside and O wait now you can't touch my LR's with anything effective. One sentinel lascannon shot a turn? lol. I then proceed to cripple you and assault you with my far superior terminators in Close Combat as you watch as your 5 man squad gets ripped up by my 6 man squads with my Command Squad pumping out a nice ol' batch of 20+ TLC attacks and 4 Chainfists attacks each in CC alone without Belial to add in there who has about another 6 TLC attacks or so. Don't forget I could have also used my heavy flamer and the LRC's hurricane bolters and assault cannon. You will lose combat unless you wipe out my squad to the man. If you're fearless then prepare to take a nice big handful of dice and roll your No Retreat! saves or if you're not, then prepare to run with leadership 2. It would be even more fun to assault you with Dreadnoughts and laugh as you can't touch it and I ID a ogryn a turn at least. The only props I give you is that it's fluffy, but don't waste your money on it.

Ahh oh dear.
Ogryns move in and charge a terminator squad;18 shots nets 9.018 hits nets 6.024 wounds nets 1.0 kills.
21 attacks nets 10.521 hits nets 8.79 wounds nets 1.47 kills
Total - 2.47 dead termies.
Termies strike back with 6 attacks nets 3.006 hits nets 2.51 wounds.
Total - 0 Ogryns dead. (One wound on bone'ead).
Whaaaaa?! Whos loosing what now?!
(N.b Lightning claw termies do alot better, actually taking down an ogryn and putting two more wounds on another)
A ogryn squad charging a 30man ork shoota squad is similiarly awesome with 11 orks dead and 2 wounds from one ogryns. Obviously those orks arent using thier pretty cool shootas/big shootas (which would make a differeance) nor getting a charge (which would make even more of a difference) but then these ogryns are being suggest by the OP to operate from a chimera - Which is not afriad of big shootas, PK'S (When moving 12") or shootas.
As for the mobile-force bit, with transport beating weapons... Yes, this will prove a big old problem. Chimera hopping & smoke and some decent tacticians can allow for those chimera to cover a decent bit of ground before they do get popped though. But that is a fair point.
Please dont go spouting off nonsense when it really is just not true.
P.s Yes I am being pro-ogryn..with all the chargey goodness but then they are in chimera which does give them a shade of flexibility and I am trying to prove a point that they arent entirely useless and infact a relatively decent killing mob, used properly.
Yarrick with his LD bubble (the ogryns worst weakness by far), improving CC abilities and own CC prowess himself works very well with 2-3 squads of those Big O's.
A note to the OP:.. You may.. Ooohh those are 6man Ogryn squads. Right. Gotcha. 5man squads will work well enough, if you need the points to improve your troops element. Some cheap penal legion squads may work well in combination with the Ogryn dudies.

Congrats. You are now tied up in a combat with terminators. Did you not read below where the termies are in a Laindraider? You assume you are getting the charge off. At that point vs. the Shooting terminators yeah you might be able to hurt them and if you take out the squad here's a cookie because the rest of the army is about to hit your trash unit like a hammer. You assaulted AN ork boyz squad. What about the Nobs waiting with PK's and a nice big warboss to kill you? How are you going to get the assault? If Chims are open topped (which I will admit I don't know if chimeras are, and if they are I think it's funny that you think they will live) a smart player could literally deny you assaults and shoot your trash unit to death. My army is almost pure LC's. I will have taken out your x-ports easily. Godhammers anyone? Yes I will take 4. Don't forget another 2 las from Dreads that I can take against you. Your x-ports are down and your trash units are going to be stuck hoofing it under a nasty hail of lascannon fire then when you get to me i'll assault YOU because my LR's assault ramps: Ideal Deathwing Command Squad: Chaplain, Belial, Apothecary TLC, Deathwing Banner (+1 attacks all around!), means 4 TLC and a chainfist for the C-Squad. Belial: WS5 6 TLC attacks. VS. Trashgryns. 3+ to hit with rerolls because of the Chappy: 5.34 wounds. Chaplain: WS5 6 PW attacks. VS. Trash. 3+ to hit with rerolls: 5.34 wounds. Rest of the command squad: TLC: 4+ to hit with rerolls (20 hits) = 15 wounds. Chainfist: 3 attacks: about 2 wounds. So thats around 25.68 PW wounds with 20.34 rerolling to wound and another 2 PF wounds. with rerolls 11.3 TLC wounds 1.78 PW wounds and 1.67 PF wounds. 14.75 wounds. Spreading around a 2 different squad thats 2 wounds on the bonehead at least and around 12 wounds on the squad meaning 4 dead. O darn my ideal situation means that your squad is a 2 man squad and mine is a 7 man squad before you even struck! Well, the bonehead might be able to but LOL. I didn't even factor in the Heavy flamer getting around say 4 hits and 2 wounds right there. O darn your screwed! How about factoring in the LR's heavy bolter and lascannon? Or maybe my other deathwing squad? Maybe a Dreadnought! You made an ideal situation and it didn't even KILL the termy suqad! You caused 1.5 wounds in combat. I caused 2.51. I WON! Even your best situation I still won combat! It doesn't matter how many terminators I have left, you lost combat and either take a no retreat save or take a leadership test and can fail and be stuck out in the open for a crapload of fire and re-assault by multiple units. If you don't i'll add into the combat or retreat and prepare to shoot you to death if you win. Didn't even mention that I could ID your whole unit with a Vindicator shot! Wouldn't that be fun!

I don't know why you guys are making such a big deal out of it. Idk bout Ogryns in mass but I have played them in the new edition and they aren't all that bad. They should only be a counter assault though. And Really excell with Yarrick with them.
As for rough Riders don't knock them for 10 its 105 and on the charge they slaughter a Termi squad of any kind causing 9 power wounds on avg and thats with out the special char. They may only be amasing once but they have alot of potential to pay for themselves and shouldnt be overlooked.

Riders have potential but if they get drawn out in combat etc. they will get slaughtered. If they get shot at, same deal. They are an easy KP and in friendly games I think they are OK but vs. tourney lists truthfully it just seems to do nothing =(. Not many people will expose their terminators to you for an easy charge and what if your versing orks or other IG, then they are ick. Truthfully I just am worried you will build this and realize how much you have spent and how the army won't perform. If you want to do this army as a fun project then it's fine I guess, but for being a good list it's not good. If you want it to be a competitive list then yeah. If it's a friendly / fun army to make then there is almost no point posting it on these boards, just have fun with it and make it. Most people will critique like you want a list to be good unless you say you want a friendly list then they won't push metagame units on you, but if you want it to be a fun LOL type list that people are like WTF? Then I think its fluffy and fun.

Fun: Yes, try to fit as many Ogryns as possible and I would try and take a 3rd troop choice. I might even reccomend going with infantry platoons and giving them Autocannons or Lascannons to pop x-ports. Even maybe vet squads to just pop x-ports. I would drop the Sentinel period and add to the troops. Maybe even assault infantry platoons to back up your assaulting ogryns. You might want to look into that.

Well if you take creed and have the Rough Riders they can outflank and wipe anything they want out from the side with a potential 24'' charge. I think its about moving them correctly and knowing how to use there long 12'' charge and fleet is what will make them really good. I see alot of people get high and mighty expose the LR and when my melta vets knock it out the RRs run from half across the board and wipe out a squad of termis.

People expose their LR's because that baby can take punishment like no other. If they willingly expose it to a mechvet melta squad that is whithin 18" then they are crazy. Even crazier that they let that unit live! vs. termies they might be able to be a nice unit. I won't deny that under your conditions they could kill 3 termies easily like Steleks math showed. But if they are TH/ SS (which a lot of metagamers take and I would take if not for the failure of the DA codexes SS...) thats one dead...

Don't worry about it. I proposed something similar a few months back, and will get around to building it sometime. I was planning at the 1850 level, though, which gives more room for Troops, maybe a Vendetta or two instead of troop Chimerae, plus a GK Grand Master. 3 5-man Ogryn squads, 1 w/Yarrick leading & 1 w/the GKGM leading. Seems like a very fun list to toy around with, and you'll certainly break up any monotony in your local gaming circle, at least where fighting IG is involved. Just make sure to convert from (plastic) Ogre Kingdoms ogres, rather than using pricey metal ogryn!

Thanks. Erm, the termies are tied up with me? Also im winning. Also they cost the same amount of points. Land-raiders eat chimera.. they blow about 3 up every turn. Ohnestly. Landraiders do have an answer and that answer is melta mechvets.
EzeKK wrote:You assaulted AN ork boyz squad. What about the Nobs waiting with PK's and a nice big warboss to kill you?
Yesh. One squad, with one Ogryn squad. Your point? I included the pk nob into the equations. Im winning very much so. I do get more spanked on a charge, though. Still, my point is they can whip a boy squad with a charge. Warboss; He is mucho's scary and horribly dangerous to Ogryns, He would be avoided at all costs or multi-charged with atleast two squads as I need to throw at least 11 attacks his way to kill him before his I1 PK swings of str10 death. More attacks if he has better armor, less If I have re-rolls.
EzeKK wrote:How are you going to get the assault? If Chims are open topped (which I will admit I don't know if chimeras are, and if they are I think it's funny that you think they will live) a smart player could literally deny you assaults and shoot your trash unit to death.

EzeKK wrote:Ideal Deathwing Command Squad: Chaplain, Belial, Apothecary TLC, Deathwing Banner (+1 attacks all around!), means 4 TLC and a chainfist for the C-Squad.
lol x many. How much.. dare i ask? Maybe 150pts.. 275pts on the upper end? Perhaps a bit more?
EzeKK wrote:Didn't even mention that I could ID your whole unit with a Vindicator shot! Wouldn't that be fun!
No, you didnt. You didnt, because you already mentioned your taking four land-raiders.. now im pretty sure that fills up your heavy support slots. All of them. Your also into 1000ts (or 2/3) of the 1500pt limit this thread is based on.. so with another (lets say) 100 minimum for a HQ & another 150pts for two troop choices.. you have 250pts left.
Or are you just randomly pointless spouting off what can kill X. Because Im quite happy in the knowlegde that two large tyrant guard squads can take on pretty much anything. Or a few wraith-cannons & doom will annhilate virtually anything. But whats the point? How is it relavent?
Im actually liking this idea of Yarrick dance parties but I think two Ogryn chimera squads, Yarrick, three melta mech vets, a penal legion squad and some form of Leman russ to fill in whatever gap is left (exec maybe, vanquisher..?) as a more balanced approach.

You had random situations I had mine. Did you not see the part on which you lost combat in your ideal situation? You lost. LOST. Shooting doesn't count towards combat resulution. Also I just realized I got joked last weak when a vet squad jumped out of a chimera and assaulted on the same turn and blew my LR up... Dammit. Melta mechvets can kill a LR. If I allow you to get 6" from it, and you roll well. You can't deal with Green Tide. You can't kill a squad a turn. Your math says maybe but green tide has up to 180 boyz in it, you just can't hold up. Same goes for nidzilla. My 2 Godhammers can pop probably one chim turn on average 2 per if im lucky. Each landraider has 2 godhammers on it. Not 4 in all lol. Im not DH. BTW I could take 5 LR's with melta-vets for daemonhunters. You won't beat that. Period. My deathwing wouldn't either. For an ideal command squad I also didn't factor in a Grey Knight BC. 275? I wish. Probably more around 600-700 points but for god sakes it's deathwing and because you did your ideal situation I did mine. Also, your ogryn squad costs 305 points. A TH/ SS 5 man squad costs 200. Ogryns suck. I have already said, for fun, it's a great army! It's inventive and will be interesting to see play. You auto-lose when it comes to ogryns effectiveness. No one takes them for competitive lists! They CAN be effective but grots CAN take down a 10 man vulcan TH/ SS squad. Likely? No. http://40kguardreview.blogspot.com/2009/06/ogryns.html Stelek says it all. They fail. Get over it. Your suggestion about his army is probably the right way to go. Giving them tanks to support to tear up weakened squads would help enhance Ogryns. I wouldn't get penal legion though. CC guard Platoons is a great way to go truthfully. I would probably take an executioner and a Demolisher than take a devildog or two in the FA section.

roll well? False.
3 Meltas at BS4 and 1/2 range AVERAGE a dead tank of any armor value. He just has to not roll like crap and your Land Raider will be gone from the table.
As for the other bickering, I certainly enjoyed the read.

Do you want this army for fun or to be competitive?
Clearly its competitive. Thats why its packed to the teeth with vendettas.....and uh....hydras......or uh optimized meltavets........and doesn't have any fluffy choices like ogryns....and also explains why it doesn't have a cool theme to it or.......oh crap, I see now. /blatant sarcasm
Something tells me DJphrang doesn't want to take this list to 'Ard boyz, but I have a feeling that maybe he wants an insanely awesomely cool army list with an epic theme that is also capable of winning a few games...
As for my two cents I would suggest dropping the Sentinels and veterans and instead concentrate on making a solid base of infantry for objective grabbing and long range hurtiness, with a main focus on antitank.

BTW I use Heavy Bolters on the Chimera turrets because A) the fire from the Heavy Flamers might freak out the Ogryn, B) I like the range of the Heavy Bolters, and C) bolter weaponry is wicked awesome.

EzeKK wrote: Melta mechvets can kill a LR. If I allow you to get 6" from it, and you roll well. You can't deal with Green Tide. You can't kill a squad a turn. Your math says maybe but green tide has up to 180 boyz in it, you just can't hold up. Same goes for nidzilla. because you did your ideal situation I did mine. Also, your ogryn squad costs 305 points. A TH/SS 5 man squad costs 200. Ogryns suck. I have already said, for fun, it's a great army! It's inventive and will be interesting to see play. You auto-lose when it comes to ogryns effectiveness. No one takes them for competitive lists! They CAN be effective but grots CAN take down a 10 man vulcan TH/SS squad. Likely? No. Right, as said before.. meltavet eat land raiders. No maybe. Do. Ive just proven that 5 ogryns charging into a 30man ork mob will eat it for breakfast. I never included combat resolution, I simply stated that I would be winning in that situation. More orks would die from No Retreat!. About 3. Yes green tide has 180 boys in it. Im gonna have about 5 hull heavy flamers. Thats lots of to & fro here. I dont care there are 180boys.. I can take out those 30man chunks. Actually I was using 5man Ogryn squads @ 210pts & at that value they were beating the termies quite happily.. I missed the OP, that he was including the Bone'ead as a seperate selection rather than it should come i.e 1 ogryn squad + 2/3 ogryns as that Ogryn squad already automatically includes the bone'ead. If you bothered to pay attention to any part of my post.. this would be quite clear. Gretchins cant take down a 5man TH/ SS termie squad. 30 grots charging, shoot 30 times kills 0.8 termies. Charging, they swing first with 60 attacks, killing another 0.8 termies. The remaining 3 termies (as 1.6 dead equates to two dead termies) swing back for 6 hits killing 3. It would end up with the grots trying to pass LD5 morale tests with a re-roll (loosing a few more in the process) every turn and failing that they will probably get swept. But that is only 135pts worth of gretchin & runtherd. But its a silly situation, the termies have been bogged down for a few turns so the gretchins have probably served thier purpose.

Assault based IG armies tend to confuse people. I would be amused to see this on the table, it would be very fun to play against.
Just as long as you don't have converted pink ogryn in tutus, like one of my local players has. It hurts my eyes just looking at them.

My major concern with lots of ogryn in transports is that they have a base LD of 6 and with the Bone'ead its 7. That presents a decent chance to fail a pinning test if a squad loses its ride.
Also note that if they were to get locked into combat with an AV 12 walker they would be effectively stuck there until they broke - with the exception of Yarricks squad who would stay reguardless until either Yarrick died or the walker(s) were destroyed. Sure if the Ogryn get the charge they might take it down but if they don't they can't hurt it.

Hence Yarrick. I do agree the Ogryns low base LD is a serious flaw & Yarrick addresses that perfectly. Vs walkers if yarricks squad gets a charge, they should net 3 glances on the charge which would hopefully rip off the DCCW. But otherwise they should be avoided at all costs because (like a few other creations in 40k) they have str10 anti-O death attacks!

I like the list, although my wallet hurts just looking at it.
Albeit I would probably keep the turret multilasers for a reasonable chance to at least throw wounds at MCs from afar. Just keep the hull mounted HB so you can have both S6 and S5 AP4 weaponry.
That aside you could use some Plasmaguns in there just for range death for MEQs. Unless you feel like charging everything, which is cool considering thats what the list looks like.
And I still love those S5 T5 W3 ogryn, I agree that their leadership is their main downfall.
Get some test games done and post em up here! I'm eager to see how this list works against everything.
Oh, and make an ogryn or two on a disco floor. Perhaps a travolta ogryn or something.
Or better yet, the Fonz (spelling?)

It doesn't even need to be a dread or something that threatens the ogryns really, a cheap squad of armored sentinels could hold up an ogryn squad the whole game.
For 180 points you could pop the chim with auto cannons and then get into assault the following turn, and all you have to do is weather the charge. 3 glances probably wont kill 3 walkers. The Sents arn't going to wipe them out but they will neutralize them.
The list presented also doesn't have much more than a few melta squads to hurt the example unit.
the long range shooting in the army is mostly st5 and while those meltas will hurt without anything to draw fire from those 6 Chims they might be hoofing it.
The Ogryns would be difficult to off, but there are other ways to occupy them while you roast the vets.
