I was wondering what got you into Warhammer 40,000 or warhammer? I was hooked by Graham McNeil's book Storm of Iron, and, now that I know what everything is, I am re reading it.

I got burned out on Battlesystem, sold all my badly painted Ral Partha minis at the swap&shop and was looking for something new. I came across a money clip with $80 in it, and immediately went to Hobby Haven where I bought the original plastic Space Orks box set. That and the second edition box got me hooked. Damn you GW, Daaammmnnn Yooouuu!!!

*Frustration at video games* I want a game where I can give battle mechs some options! *Thinks of DoW...* Hmmmm, actually what about a tabletop game? ANY tabletop game *Researches rules sets digs out old MW: Dark Age minis and then finds out about the Kult of Speed* *drool* I need to do this... *Buys Ork Codex, and snikroot* Now, I just need to pool with a friend to buy AoBR and I'm set! (I've long been interested in the game and it's story, but in the end I got into it because I was bored this summer, and I grew tired of Chromehounds and other video games, so I began to paint. I also wanted something that I could work on with my dad, we used to paint models of WW2 airplanes, of course my dad is used to having some kind of guide in how to paint, and most 40K models don't have that, but it was funny when I heard him say "You remind me of myself, ten years ago, I would mostly paint, and you mostly watched" I am currently 0-2 against said friend, but we have a blast every time we play. His terminators save the day EVERY day.)

Definitely saw how musch fun people were having, and picked up AoBR. Now, I am working on painting Dark Angels.
My only real regret was that I didn't start Necrons because they are simple and I personally really like them, despite everyone's claims of flavorlessness.

A couple of years ago, in the distant land of New Zealand, I was browsing the shelves at EB Games when I found this awesome box that had a guy with XBAWKS HUEG pauldrons and an XBAWKS HUEG pistol. Bought it, tried it on my grandparents' computer (I was visiting NZ at the time), and got hooked. I googled it to see if there were any expansions or sequels, and lo and behold, I found what it was based off.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

Saw 1st edition Spacehulk at a boardgames' store at the mall ~1990, loved Jim Cameron's Aliens (who doesn't? - see sig), dad bought it for me when I got good grades that quarter. Played the hell out of it and enjoyed it immensely without knowing it was part of anything else, until I got Adeptus Titanicus a year or so later.

Care of Hero Quest, I got into Space Crusade when it came out. I loved the game and wanted more. Browsing a comic book store, I nearly died when I saw there was a game with those same guys in it, only at a bigger scale. ``Warhammer, you say?'' The only problem was a lack of disposable income, so I just `followed' things very casually without playing until that was finally resolved.

I saw WH40K at cons for years, and actually played a few games of 2nd with a friend who bought the box set. The greatest portion of my friends played WFB but it never interested me all that much; I did love reading the battle reports in WD. One day I was looking at a WD and read the Battle report for Sisters vs. Necrons (assult on outpost 302 or some such) and was instantly hooked on 40k. Unfortunately it was still another 10 years before my income would allow me to actually purchase and play, but 3rd ed. Crons were my first army.

I've known the game for years, but back then I was a kid with an allowance and had several hobbies to sustain with that.
Years later, I played DoW and liked it, and I don't have so many hobbies now... and also have a job, the rest is easily deduced.

Basically same thing except I walked into his personal sanctum. Was wall to wall figures ranging from reaper mini's and forms of this game. The guy had Necron, IG, Space Marines, Tyranids, Dark Eldar and a throng of D & D reaper minatures. Was staring intently at the necron wondering what game requires the use of these bad ass guys.
Played a game and I was hooked.
What sent me the Ork Route was reading their use of warp technology. But instead of using it for transportation they made it into a gun ie SAG. I am still laughing about that.

I was on holiday in Lousiana and saw some guys playing. It was interesting.
4 years later I decided to finally drop my Magic: The gathering addiction and find a game thats less "luck" based, and costs less long term. I decided to finally try out warhammer and have not been disappointed. Yes, the start up costs are pretty phenominal (I spent $300 the first week getting the books, paints, etc. plus 2 battleforces of nids) and I've probably spent about $1300 or so building my two 5000+ armys. But compared to spending 400-500 every 3 months on magic cards, along with spending $200 a month (at least) on drafts, boosters, tournys, etc. I think I will ultimately save out. Once you get so many models theres really not much else to buy, lol!

I was a little kid in summerfun (I think it was the 4th grade) and we had a "garage sale" type thing where kids brought things from home they wanted to trade.
One counselor brought an already put together Space Marine and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. The counselor gave it to me and from there I was hooked. I went down to the comic store w/the model and asked if they knew where it came from. They pointed to a whole bunch of books and the pics hooked me in.
I've stopped for a few years here and there, but I always get pulled back in.

Was at my local gamestore, they had recently started to carry Citadel minis, they were much better than most of what was out there at the time. At some point they started playing Warhammer at the table upstairs. 40k came out a few months or a year later.
