There will be only 1 gamesday in the US next year: Gamesday Baltimore. Plan accordingly if you are a Golden Daemon painter.

Does this knowledge extend to the number of GTs next year?

Does this knowledge also mean that Games Day will be worth attending?

GW's track record recently, even when there were "big announcement" leaves a lot to be desired. It would have to be worth the pretty high cost of attendance (and travel, food, and tolls).

From what I've seen, this next GD will be several times as good as last years. And yep, last year sort of hit an all time low.

But there are a lot of plans on the table to return Baltimore GD back to what it used to be.

It would be shocking if GD US in Baltimore somehow failed to surpass its immediate predecessors.

"Shocking" if GD US isn't better next year? Is it even "possible"?

I didn't see anything wrong with an East and West Coast Games Day but they certainly diluted them with the other GDs they ran.

Maybe they could run one (Baltimore) in the summer as usual and run the other (LA) in the winter ??

I loved GD Baltimore, years ago and when it was the only one.

I just wish they'd modify the Golden Demon a little ... have the usual winners compete in a "Veterans" category against each other rather than taking all the prizes and shutting out new painters. We'll really see a concentration of the "regulars" at a single Games Day in 2010.

Seems like there should be 3 US Games Days. East Coast, keep it in Baltimore, a West Coast one, and a Midwest, probably in Chicago.

GW needs to realize the US is slightly larger than Europe, and travel isn't quite as easy or cheap.

I'm guessing it's a matter of having X amount of dollars and the choice of spending it across two so-so events or blowing it all on one big one. If that's the case, I think this was the right decision no matter where the event ended up. If you're going to do something, do it right.

Living in LA, GD LA would be nice. And there are enough GW stores out Left to make it possible.

GW is well aware that the US is far larger than Europe, which is why they're only hosting Baltimore next year. It costs GW money to ship things cross-country, you know.

You'd think I wouldn't be surprised reading this after hearing all the asshattery GW is known for, but this just takes the cake. GW's attempt to pass us the savings ends up being incomplete and we're left 4th and 18 and forced to take a very long punt. Sigh.

I was told that if that were to happen, it is to make things centrally located. How can having GD in Baltimore be CENTRALLY located. Last time I checked, the central part of the US was in MO. We have a large enough place to have GD in our area AND we have enough retailers to have sales managed by them, and another reason is that people from all around the US would show up. Kinda doubtful that people on the west coast would make the trip out to the east coast for a ONE day event. That is just my two cents on that subject.

GW has been expanding its number of stores in the Chicago area. Approximately 3 have opened up since Dec '08. (Algonquin, Rockford, Palatine).

One did shut down, but really just moved to a better location with a lower overhead (red top).

And they did open one in a mall (woodfiled), that is being referred to as 'Games Work-Closet' since they only have 2-3 paint bar slots, a game table and a demo table.

I havn't seen it for myself yet, so if my info is off please someone let me know.

At least in Chicago we have Adepti-Con.
And one day, I might actually get to go. >: P

You have a GD in your area. It's called Adepticon.

I'd rather see the money spent on making Baltimore a better event, and hopefully go back to 2 days. They can throw support to Adepticon to make it better.

I think GW meant "central to GW operations", not necessarily to GW's customers.

Actually, when GW only did one event in Baltimore per year, people did come from the West Coast - after all, when Baltimore is the only game in town, you either fly in, or don't go. When GW diluted things by having GTs and GDs everywhere, with more and more cost, people got in the habit of only traveling regionally.

Adepticon is up in the Chicago area. That is a five hour drive for us. I would like to drive to Adepticon if they had the same type of contests that GD has/had. I am working on a banner AND a costume for next years' event IF it is still in Chicago in the future. I am going for a third win in a row for the next banner. Hope I can pull it off.

Since I can't make Adepticon next year, I may just head to the Games Day and reprise my rockin' trip of 1996.

...actually, a road trip DOES sound fun.

This is true, there will only be one US Games Day next year. Though GW did not want this to be widespread knowledge at the time, this decision was made at GW US HQ many months ago. Clearly the "cat is out of the bag" here on dakkadakka now.

The good news is supposedly it will be back to being the exciting, spectacular show it used to be. We shall see.

So is GW going to continue to 'support' Adepti-Con?

It could come down to cost. If you run 1 instaed of 2-3 you save money. I think you could also make GD a bigger event, where people will shell out the cash to travel to Baltimore. The problem is GW has not tried in years to improve GD and have been going with the same old hat.

There is a guy who is charge of promotions(GW US) and I have great faith that he will be able to "WOW" at GD. So much so I will fly all the way out there just to see for myself.

GW will continue to support fan-run events like Adepticon, BoLS Con, etc. It is part of the current "community building" strategy.

Any possibility we could have some sort of west coast golden daemon competition? THere was a lot of talk about doing something this year, but nothing ever materialized.

Europe has the bigger population and GDP (the EU that is) but we're certainly bigger than the UK.

Its easy to run a golden demon event.. Gather together all the best painted models then roll dice to see who wins

Probably have better odds at winning than the very biased judges who they usually get
