The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Was rather pathetic.

Good old fashioned cheating like that should see Henry banned from the rest of the World Cup tournament.

It will be interesting to see what the fallout is from Robbie Keane stating that the fix was in. I know in the u.s. if a player criticized the organization (NFL, NBA, MLB, etc.) like that they would get HAMMERED with fines and bans.

and yet if its the truth??

can fifa revoke the decision and have a playoff again?

or will the cheaters sit on their throne of lies and hope no-one kicks up a storm?

Ironically, FIFA lack balls though.

This from a Swedish newspaper:

“There are approximately 80 million Irishmen around the world. We guarantee they all feel pretty bad today. But I sincerely hope there are three Swedes that feel even worse.

“They are Martin Hansson and (referee’s assistants) Stefan Wittberg and Fredrik Nilsson.”

“There will be no World Cup for Ireland and I assume that Team Hansson has also forfeited it’s right to continue to take charge of major international matches. Anything else would be a further insult to the Irish nation.”

The refs will be there.

Remember: no matter how bad the refs are. They're the refs and are absolutely perfect. Just like in the NFL.

In the future, people will spit on their graves. May their reputations be so stained that future generations will shun the family name. Thierry Henry admitted it was handball on Radio 4 this morning.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

He'd want to admit it, if he carried it any further he'd have been playing rugby.

TIme for FIFA to give the win the Ireland methinks.

Then, seeing as we beat both France and Italy shortly after their World Cup Final, they might like to hand the World Cup to Scotland

One of the prerequisites for winning though is actually attending the finals alas.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I still remember the 1984 "hand of God but head of Maradona".

That was even more blatant as it was the hand that put the ball in the net. At least Henry admitted what he did, and it was possibly even reflex.

Well internetional football is 99% nationalism and 1% sportsmanship and I remember how much the Irish laughed when Maradona cheated, so feth em. Karma!

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Perhaps this will finally convince people that football needs a proper 4th ref, as they have in rugby.

Not that I really give a monkies, as I don't follow football at all.

Though I can imagine the pain that something like this gives fans. Tough break.

Psst...Maradonna was 86.

84 was in France and won by Platini's French team.

I'm actually pretty relieved, I don't like world cup fever so it's good for me that we didn't make it. Though cheating is bad form.

I'm still crying . World Cup (for me in the U.S.) is not the same if I can't root for Ireland.

Sure, I still have the U.S. team, but that's not quite the same for me.

Radio 1 has just said the Irish F.A. has/is formerly going to complain and ask for a replay.....

Bah. If we get a replay the French will just beat us fairly. That's my prediction.
We should stick to playing sports no one else plays, so we can claim we're the best at them .

I think we have a better chance of seeing Jesus Christ post army lists on dakkadakka than we do of FIFA calling for a rematch.
