Hmm, the old thread seems to have decayed until some crazy mod had to shoot it like the rabid dog that it was.)

Earlier I mentioned that if I got information on the price increase, I would confirm whether or not this will be affecting the US.

I just recieved the information from US Trade Sales that yes, there will be a price increase coming on May 31st, and at my request, they sent me a list of the price increases on the items going up. So yes, there is a price increase in the US, it happens on May 31st. Independent retailers can order at the old prices through the prior week. GW stores and the website will increase prices on the 31st.

While I have all of the information, I will not be posting it. GW will be putting up the information on their website. The information was sent to me to help me with budgeting and ordering for my stores, and I won't break their trust by posting it on the internet.

I hate to say it, but this kind of makes the thread a "I know but I'm not teeelllliiinng!" tease, Mike.

But thanks for confirming at least.

Thought of that, and apologies.) Best I could do is confirm that it's real, and will be hitting the US. GW is not happy with the retailer in the UK that put the information online earlier this week. I'm working on a large restock order and needed the info for my stores and budgeting, and they got the file to me soon as it was finished. I wouldn't want to then turn around and do what the first guy did.)
Soon as they say it's ok to release it, i will post it.

Maybe if they got some of the recent stimulus package, we wouldn't be having this price hike.

Spent some time looking at the file. Not bad. Books stood out, most going up 10-15% like we saw on the UK side. Just a portion of the range went up of all the other stuff, not an across the board increase. Most newer kits didn't increase. Seemed to be more metals than plastics. Couple of things surprised me, most didn't. Paints not going up. It's the type of price increase that probably only hurts a little, but put 3 or 4 together and when we look back in 5 years it will be significant when added to the rest.

Pretty similar to what is happening with every other line of products that I sell in my store. Except comics, because Marvel thinks that 3.99 a book is the way to go, and everyone else is follwing suit. Comics look to go up by 33% (2.99 to 3.99) over a span of about 3 years.

There are plenty of gakky businesses out there that legitimately deserve populist hatred because they gouge prices needlessly. GW isn't one of them.

GW has an operating profit margin of about 10%. Get the feth over it.

I think Kirasu was making an attempt at humor while you are just blatantly being a troll.

Thanks for playing. Welcome to The List.

Thanks for taking the time to confirm this ill news, Mike. From what I gather it seems to be similar to the european list mentioned in the last thread.

I love how stating facts makes one a troll. And also, how the definition of 'troll' has now degraded to 'person I disagree with'.

Kirasu wasn't being humorous, he's persistently displayed the "GW is a greedy corporation" sentiment in every thread on the subject I've read.

Thanks for confirming this, mikhaila!

I only heard about this last week, but luckily had already planned to make an order... placed it today so I'm clear of the increase. I have a feeling that one of the metal blisters I was buying 8 of would have been a target of the increase...

Check out this bit of detailed info on the US price increase. Some of this will hurt more than an overheated plasma gun on top of other recent increases. I'm very happy I have large numbers of some of these more expensive kits already, most of them acquired at discount through bundle deals, trading, eBay and flea markets.

In my happy place, I'm in my happy place...

Can I join in? Since GW chooses how much to reinvest and how much will be staright profits makes the whole issue a little more unclear.

Beauty of Vertical Integration. They are using the money they make for more and better production facilities, molds, plastic injection, marketing, etc. But they chose how much to invest for growth.

The challenge is then having the projected earnings for the year stay on target.

GW could charge a whole lot less, but they would have to grow slower. And the goal of the company is literally Total Global Domination. So it makes it hard.

There is certainly greed playing a large part, and the investors requiring a return on their money. But I love the company even if I don't like some of the people in it.

I think Tom Kirby should check and see if he has a pair or will contiue keeping the same failures in North America and hope this restructure lets them succeed. His training department had a total success of about 1% in the last round before cuts and that guy got to stay on with the company. Gimme a break, maybe we could have a cheaper product if the money they sink in the U.S. wasn't squandered in keeping bad staff and getting rid of everyone else.

It's quarterly, not monthly.

This isn't even because they are hurting (they are not)

Its just because GW are greedy bastards, I mean really, land raider for $62?

I wouldn't mind it if they actually included all the stuff with the kit they sell (the price I mean) but instead, they drag more money out of you with upgrade sprues.

GW must be run by flakking Darth Sidious.

GW is a greedy corporation

Ok this may be a tad emotive, but having seen the list of disclosed shareholders I don't see GW as being primarily about the hobbyist.
Remove greedy from the statement and what you have is a corporation, owned in large part by investment groups that are only concerned with their portfolios.

The books price increase will affect me the most as they are currently at the limit of what I consider acceptable for what you get.
I am not sure but I would have thought the printing runs are going to be sufficient to reduce unit costs.
If they were limited numbers of copies be produced I could understand a relatively high cost for what essentially is not even a book. More like a high quality magazine.

Once again, 10% profit margin. They only make 6 bucks in profit off of that land raider.

EDIT: I should clarify that that's what it averages out to be. I have no idea what the profit margins would be on each individual kit.

I dont care about people past posting habits. Its frankly irrelevant.

What is relevant is telling someone to "Get the &%$@ over it." That is trolling. To use your own words from the previous thread:

Looks like roughly 15% across the board.

That's a bit excessive, IMO.

But if people are paying it, good for them.

It's pretty much the first thing that gets mentioned. It's right on the second page of the document.

Revenue £125.7m £110.3m

Revenue at constant currency* £113.9m £110.3m
Operating profit - pre-royalties receivable** £5.5m £0.8m
Royalties receivable £3.5m £1.7m
Operating profit** £9.0m £2.5m
Pre-tax profit £7.5m £1.1m
Discontinued operations profit/(loss) for the year £0.1m £(1.2)m
Year end net borrowings £1.6m £10.1m
Earnings/(loss) per share 17.8p (2.4)p

Bolded the relevant parts. 125 mil in revenue, less than 10 mil in profits. Sure is a greedy corporation, right?

Nintendo and Apple sell their products at a much, MUCH higher profit margin, but I don't see them getting called out is evil. The fact is, like any reasonable company, they'll charge what people will pay. People are obviously still buying GW merchandise, and it's kind of tiring to watch Dakka posters circle-jerk about how righteous they are for sticking to an evil corporation when they're merely a grossly misinformed but vocal minority.

Sometimes prudence demands calling a spade a spade. You not liking my attitude doesn't make my facts any less valid, and I'm the one with factual data on my side, unlike the proponents of the conflicting viewpoint.

Also, taking my quotes out of context while still trying to claim the moral high ground isn't really helping your argument. I've yet to see anyone posit any data that suggests that GW are a bunch of greedy bastards, and not merely a bunch of stupid, shortsighted investors.
