Hi guys n' gals
I made this thread for people to post up all those paranoid, or paranormal things that have happened to our very own community, in their lives. Simply out of curiosity, as some stuff is just plain weird. I'll go first
A couple of years back, in 2007, me and my friend paul were wandering back from a paintball match at night. It was a really cool game, and we decided to make our way back to the base camp for some coffee before the next game. It was about 11.00 and we were kinda tired. But we found ourselves alone in a completely deserted patch of woodland, and, we started to hear voices. Now i personally think that the lack of sleep and the swaying branches probably made it sound like voices, but we were both really freaked out and pegged it off in a random direction. We got really lost, and were wandering around aimlessly till morning, but ever since then, we have never gone paintballing in the dark again.
Another random experiance im simply going to put down to exhaustion. I tried out one of those military fitness courses, purely out of interest to see what recruits have to go through. Needless to say, after a days cross country running i was knackered, and fell asleep when i got back to my house basically as soon as i hit the pillow. Anyways, i woke up in the middle of the night suddenly, cos something moved in my room. Im a pretty light sleeper. So i woke up, and looked around my room, and there was soemone sitting in my chair opposite my bed. The speed i turned my bedside light on astounded myself, but there was knowone there when the light was on. I guess i imagined it, but i was definitely woken up by something moving in my room.
Strange, no?
So yeah, please post up any stories that have made your skin crawl, or the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and let others psycho analyse them

Couple of weeks ago when I was camping, every morning I would dread because I would be awake about 4 o'clock, trying to sleep, and that damned cockral would walk right up to MY tent.. and "wake me up" (about 10 times or more).
Okay, not really weird, but damned annoying.

I really am not a believer, I class myself as an open minded sceptic. I would imagine that a good 95% of paranormal experiences can be explained away using logic or the fact that the witness was a bit cracked.
I do have a story to share, this happened in broad daylight, amongst a large group of people and the sun was shining. Mrs squilverine is a secondary school teacher and gets involved in a lot of out of school hours stuff like organising school plays and team events. A few weeks back a cross country walk had been arranged but some of the responsible adults had dropped out and they asked me to make up the numbers. A group of about 30 kids and 5 adults set off and spent the next 3 hours wandring through the countryside. Along the way we paused to take on water and have a rest. At one point we stopped under a group of low trees where it was nicely shaded, I have to point out that on any other occaision this would have been one of those places you would have happily spent a couple of hours chilling out reading a book or something. Now I am not a squeemish person or easily spooked but sometimes you find yourself somewhere you really don't want to be. For some reason I had this overwhelming feeling that something incredibly bad had once happened there and that we should move on, I tried to dismiss the idea as nonsense but then started to get the feeling of being completely terrified as if I knew I was in serious trouble but couldn't see what the danger was. At one point I nearly threw up in my mouth. Thankfully we moved on fairly quickly so I dismissed the whole experience.

I have really weird dreams which seem to come true, but never in the way I think they would... I didn't beleive them at first, but after the first 3 times, ya know?
There was this girl I liked a while back, but I ended up moving away from her. I then, like 2-3 years later, had a dream about her having sex with someone, I couldn't tell who. Two weeks later, the local News said that a girl with her last name (Which, I imagine, is a fairly uncommon one...) got raped and they were looking for the criminal.
Back a two years ago, there was another girl I liked, and I had a dream about her, too. I dreamed that me and her were hanging out, but then she started changing, becoming like a big bat demon (Like Dracula in Van Helsing), and I pulled out a sword I got from nowhere, and started hacking at her, thinking her a monster. After her escape, I started hunting her down. Then after a certain plot development, I realized I was the monster here, not her. Well, three months later, I learned a secret about her that absolutely horrified me, and I started doing.... not nice things, lets put it that way. When I had calmed down, I realized that what I was doing wasn't right, and that I was in the wrong.
I also had a dream where going to the local carnival would change my life in a significant way. I thought I was going to meet a girl, to tell the truth . I go, and within the first.... not even 5 minutes I get screwed out of $60 due to my own naive stupidity. Needless to say, I had an absolutly horrible time after that. That night, my brother asks if I want to go drinking with him and a buddy. I decide, Oh what the hell, might as well. We get to his friends house, stocked with beer, vodka, basically if it's alcoholic and drinkable, it's there. I get absolutely smashed, as does my brother. At 11:30, my brother says "Hey, I just remembered, I have to go to work, we better get home". On the way home, he starts driving on the wrong side of the road with a car coming. I tell him to pull over, but he goes on about how he IS on the right side. This goes on for about 10-15 seconds, but he finaly says "Ok, Ok, I'll swap lanes.", He swaps lanes, and not 5 seconds later the car goes right past where we were. If I hadn't have gone to the Carnival and lost my $60 bucks, I would have probably lost a brother....
I know those are not what you wanted, OP, but They happen at night, and it creeps me out.... It hasn't happened in a while, but still.

i went through a period of time where i kept being woken up at 3.33am every night. I would wake up with the distinct feeling i wasnt alone (apart from the misses in the room). I would then be so worried about it i would have to put the light on to get back to sleep.

Only problem with that theory is that the 3AM thing didn't start showing up in paranormal circles until that movie specifically(I looked it up after a fellow amateur paranorm enthusiast asked me about it).

Do strange lights count. When I walked my dogs at night there would be weird beams of light would travel across the old railway line.
Definitely not car headlights and they sort of travelled quickly with a start and an end if you see what I mean.

A few years ago, I went out to a club with my then-girlfriend, and some of her friends. It was one of those misty nights, where you can't see your own feet, and all the street lights have an erie glow because of the fog, yet you can see just fine when looking ahead. As the girls and I were walking home after the club closed, we had to pass through a park, and out of nowhere this homeless guy came up behind us, and whispered that we smell good....

That's not entirely true. There's always been a kind of idea(even before "Exorcism of Emily Rose", which used a weird weird theory that's been out there that paranormal activity hits its peak at 3:33am because "that's when Jesus finally died on the cross") about paranormal activity hitting its peak from 1am to 5am.
More often than not, the sightings or people reporting being "attacked" by entities at those timeframes are just the natural human body reactions to being suddenly being unable to breathe and the body snapping you out of a deep sleep.

I was specifically addressing the 3 AM thing presented in Emily Rose, which many people have taken to be true. There's no specific time(or real time frame, tbh) accepted by paranormal investigators as more paranormally active than any other at night. As for the 3:33 AM theory, it's a fallacy put forth by the writers of the movie as Catholics and Fundamentalist Christians(as well as others) believe he died around 3 PM, suffering for only 3 hours(being placed on the cross around noon).

Forgotten the technical term, sleep apnea or something like it?
It is scary. My first time I felt a presence over my shoulder which was benevolent. Then it changed and became sinister and a skeletal hand appeared! Now I was really spooked. I really thought I was awake at this point!
Then a figure was sitting on my chest and I felt its weight on my chest and I couldn't breathe. I then woke up, except I was still really asleep and it happened again! I would dream that i was awake, very convincingly, but be unable to move and be terrified. It repeated a few times before I actually woke up.
This became a recurring dream, but I taught myself to recognise that it was actually a dream and could snap out of it. As I say it was very convincing and I think I probably had my eyes open while asleep.

For sure that's true. However, given the prevalence of people dying in their sleep, accidents occurring during that timeframe, etc it leads to a belief that with certain kinds of supposed hauntings occurring only within that 1-5am bit. The general consensus seems to be that with events that are just replaying themselves over and over and over again, you'll see them going at all times of day--simply because they happened at any given timeframe.
As for the 3:33 AM theory, it's a fallacy put forth by the writers of the movie as Catholics and Fundamentalist Christians(as well as others) believe he died around 3 PM, suffering for only 3 hours(being placed on the cross around noon).

I can tell you a dream I had. Might not count, but see for yourselves.
I dreampt that I woke up in the middle of the night. Something bumped the bed to my left. Now I'm already a jumpy person, so I kind of froze, waiting to see what'd happen next. Another bump. It was a strange feeling, almost a kinetic hit into the bed and then a rebound. So I end up looking over and down. It turns out it's my 18 month old daughter. My mind does a double take for a moment.
"What are you doing outside of your crib, honey?"
And she grins at me. A typical baby grin, no strings attached, I love you daddy.
Then she walks face first into the side of the bed, bounces back, and manages to regain her footing. I watch this with a calm eye at first, knowing that I can't be seeing this, she can't get out of her crib.
"What are you doing sweetheart? Are you ok?"
Another loving grin. She's fully awake and active, same baby I see every morning. Nothing seems to be wrong with her, so why do I have this feeling? Why is she walking into the bed like this?
I sit up in bed. I go to grab her up and put her back to bed when I casually look into the large shelf we have in the corner of our room. This shelf has see-through plastic windows in it, and when you look into them they reflect the entire hallway of our apartment. I freeze in total abject horror as I see a dark grey leg and foot vanish toward my kitchen.
There's something out there.
I look down at my baby. Huge grin. Happy to see me so early. And she proceeds to jerk forward into the bed.
Rage. The pure animalistic anger that comes when your territory is violated seeps into my veins. Without even thinking I charge up out of bed and into the hallway. Whatever it is this thing must be destroyed.
I round the corner, and I see it. It's tall. Thickly built. Almost a coal grey color. Features are barely distinguishable. It looks like it's carved out of a dark granite. I look at it, it looks at me. Rage. I begin to storm toward it, aware on only a very dim level that it is raising it's coal black arms, long arms. It has a box in it's hands. It looks at me. I can see no emotion. Nothing remotely human in it's eyes, equally so it's heart. If there is one.
It raises the box toward me. I'm still charging like a beast, intent on destroying this intruder, the interloper. I hear a button click on the box.
My body stops. I about-face. I walk into the wall.

Myself and two friends were up an old logging road out in the boonies, target shooting. On the way back, we decided to explore a few of the roads in his truck. We picked a road and drove down it for about 5 minutes. It got smaller and smaller as we went, until the truck actually couldn't go any further. We're debating whether to grab the rifle and keep going on foot, or just reverse down the road until we can turn around at a small clearing we passed a ways back. We're about to get out and hike it when the friend driving notices a small pocket-sized doll hanging by it's neck from a treebranch just ahead of us with a gash across it's stomach. That was the end of that trip. We didn't even turn around at the clearing. We just slammed 'er into reverse and gunned it all the way back to the main road This was in the daytime, mind you, but it was still freaking creepy.

I've never, ever had any proper "paranormal" experiences. I'm actually quite disappointed.
(Here's hoping me saying this will jinx it and I'll have one in the next few days that I can share with you all.)
I've had sleep paralysis a couple of times, but only for a couple of seconds on both occasions. Even, so, it is terrifying. The first time I had it after just waking up at about 4 - 5pm, and it really does not feel good to be able to look around and have absolutely no control over your body. I remember panicking, and trying desperately to move, and thankfully I eventually(It seems like a long time) could.
The second time was even worse. I woke up in the middle of the night (not sure what time), I could move my eyes like the last time, but my body was completely unresponsive. Then, I distinctly remember seeing a cloaked old woman standing over me. (It was dark, but I could see her) I was freaking out big time. When I did manage to get my limbs to move I smacked on the light and nothing was there, thankfully.

A few years back I was asleep on the floor in a sleeping bag at my grans house, upstairs in my great grandma's old living room. ( she had passed away not so long ago at the time). I was lying there trying to get some sleep when I looked up at the glass cabinet where I saw my great grandma's reflection stroll past, It was definitely her and when I turned around to see what was making that reflection nothing but the blackness of night !!! I was so scared couldn't sleep didn't move for about 3 hours.
Other than that I'm rather a sceptical person about most experiences. I assert logical reasoning and carry on.

I may have seen a ghost. I am sceptical about such things.
A good while back, I was invited by a friend to his girlfriend's house for a family do. Was kindly put up for the night in a small downstairs room, on a sofa.
Woke up around 4 or 5 in the morning and saw a transluscent figure of a man sitting in the far corner who started to stand up.
Thinking it was due to hangover + tricks of the early morning light, I rubbed my eyes and the figure was moving towards me.
I was always easily spooked back then and had assumed if ever I saw such a thing I would gakk myself. Amazingly I just thought, nah! Rolled over and went back to sleep.
Didn't mention it to my mate as I thought he would take the pee out of me!
A week or so later he was in the same room with his girlfriend, when they saw a figure, in the same corner!
They were very spooked by this. Next morning they were looking through old photos when they recognised the girlfriend's great uncle as the figure from the previous night.
He had committed suicide in that little front room!
Whether I saw a ghost or not I honestly don't know. As I say am sceptical about the existence of ghosts, but the above is true.

I would wake up with the distinct feeling i wasnt alone
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God_helmet
I saw a show about this thing. It made me wonder, if you were sleeping next to some sort of electrical device, could it produce a similar effect with enough luck? Considering all the fields and radio waves in our modern world, seems like it would eventually.
In your story, how crazy would it be if your bedside clock was going through some sort of self-test every night at 3:33, and that caused it to magnetize your brain just so?
paranormal activity hitting its peak from 1am to 5am.
I think it's got to be purely perception. I've noticed, for example, that if I'm just doing whatever at night, in the dark, it doesn't bother me... But if I wake up and I'm in that weird dream state, I'm actually fairly scared of the dark, scared there will be chupacabras at my windows, etc.
People are just more susceptible at that time. After all, if ghosts cared about times, humans tend to do their killing and dying during daylight hours.
I would dream that i was awake, very convincingly, but be unable to move and be terrified.
You may have actually been awake. The human body/brain has a system that disables gross motor movements when you sleep, because if you did the crap you dreamed you were doing, you could hurt yourself. In some cases, people can wake up mentally before this system returns control of your body to you. You can move your eyes, because they eyes are the only voluntary movement that isn't disabled in sleep.
In general, all the experiences you describe are EXACTLY what is typical for certain sleep disorders.
Just because it's not paranormal doesn't make it any less horrifying for the person living it. In fact, because your brain deliberately makes it horrible, it's probably worse than a paranormal experience would be You might not even notice the ghost trying to menace you.
My body stops. I about-face. I walk into the wall.
Strange, random story, but gave me chills.
Honestly, everything is about seven times scarier when you have kids.
Closest thing to a paranormal experience I ever had: My wife is a big old Catholic, and she thinks she can talk to her guardian angel, etc. etc. I am an atheist. Before we were married, but after we were pretty serious in our relationship, I felt like she had a very good read on me, almost like she could see what I was thinking. We were laying in bed feeling all in love and emotional, and then I had a vision in my head of a little baby boy. Nothing amazing in and of itself, but it did feel sorta unusually "thrust" into my head. Then I noticed that she seemed to be reading this going on. I asked her what she thought I was just thinking. She was sorta resistant, but then I pressured her more and she said "you were thinking about our son." We had no children at the time. So, one has to admit, sorta trippy, even if it's a decent guess given the conversation. She insisted she was given this information by her guardian angel.
In any case, we now have two sons.
So, interesting, at least.
She has always insisted to me that God gives us all an opportunity to accept him (or however she says it). I guess that would have been mine, but, unfortunately for my immortal soul, it didn't seem to work.
Gotta say, I'm glad I don't have any of these lurking gradma ghost things. I would really, REALLY not like that.

I was drinking, and was quite drunk when I decided to go to bed. I thought their room was mine. Thankfully they didn't notice, so I was able to run to the bathroom to vomit without being caught.
I only drink to try and forget.
i once saw what i belive to be either
A) A ghost
B) the product of being on antibiotics and painkillers that left me in a very loopy state.

I've got a few but I'll spare y'all a huge amount of stories that make no sense when they don't have the connecting points.
2 years ago I was working about 60 hours a week at a pizza joint. Everyone in my family had gone away on vacation for a week and I had the house to myself. It was the 4tht of July and I was watching the TV. I had all the lights out and it was about 9:30. I had just gone to the bathroom and I see my dog walk past one of the windows with a man walking in front of her. I keep walking trying to make it where it wasn't obvious I had seen the person in my backyard. I see the person approaching one of the backdoors to my house and begin to fiddle with the nob, I turned around and headed towards my room and grabbed my gun. I went out the other door of the house very quietly and pointed it at them and the bolted, jumped the fence and kept going.
It really creeped me out because it was approaching being late at night and I was the only person home.
I had to recently start putting my paint in boxes because I have 2 things of glow in the dark yellow. For two weeks I had to remind myself when I laid down those weren't eyes they were paint tubes.
This one weirds me out really badly. I am a lucid dreamer. If you don't know what that means, I can control my dreams as I have them. I know I do it when I do it. That kind of creeps me out. But what does it worse than that is when I have a night terror (rather common for me) I know I have the ability to control it but I allow the horrible things to happen in the dream. I could stop my brother or mother from being murdered by rewinding the dream and making the truck not exist but I allow it to happen. It really bothers me.

Though some may call thee mighty and dreadful,
For thou art not so...

Well, technically EVERONE can control what they dream, it all comes from in your own head.
