Greeting from Cannoness Aurora! I am brand new to the world of 40K and I am loving it! I would love to hear any hints and tips you experienced players may have for fielding the Sisters of Battle. I have a small army now, but it's growing. Long live the Emperor!

Welcome to dak dakยก Buy lots of rhinos... you will need them. I suggest building a list and post it here on dakka for critique and then build it from there. That way you dont have alot of useless models. I definitely suggest buying secondhand for this army as it will cost you an arm and a leg if you buy new. Hope this helps!

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, its just a freight train coming your way!

Welcome! and i don't know much about sisters since ive never played as them, but from my experiences against them i would recommend using exorcists.

another tip: don't get discouraged. it may take a while to get beyond that initial losing streak but it gets a lot better once you do.

I played a year before I won my first game. You just gotta wrap your head around 40k "Logic", which troops to take over the ones you "like the look of". You'll get into it, promise!

Thanks for the replies everyone! No, I'm not in Aurora, IL but I know where it is. I just liked the name. I also liked Waynes World and love most of the 80's stuff. Most excellent! : ) Totally Radical!

I haven't even played a single game yet, right now I am just painting my girls. I've been lucky with buying them so far and found some really good deals on "used" stuff. Did you know that Pine Sol will remove ANY paint? Yep, I bought some metal figures that had awful paint on them off the internet, soaked them in a 50% solution of PineSol and walla, they are like new. So far I have been able to save more then 1/2 the cost. I just hope I still love it when I start playing, but I LOVE the painting part.

Welcome to dakka! Glad to see you love the painting part. Would love to see your minis in the gallery when you finish.

But yes....Melissia is the resident dakka Cannoness. She'll be able to sort you out quite well with any Sisters fluff/tactics/list building. As for my .02 cents...I hear Exorcists are awesome? And the one time I've seen Sisters on the field, it was a massive tide of Rhinos. That humble little metal box is your friend.

1) Sisters are insanely expensive. A starter army, 4 SoB squads, 4 Rhinos, 2 Excorcists, and a Canoness will run close to $600. And that's only about 1500 points...

2) Sisters struggle against high armor vehicles from range. Their lone artillery piece, the Excorcist, will shred AV11-12 with ease, but is pretty much wasted shooting at AV14.

3) They will be hard to play at first. Making a card with Faith rules on it will help. Make sure you have some sort of counter to track Faith Points.

4) They rock against MEQs (Space Marines). I've done incredibly well against MEQ players with my Sisters, but extremely mobile armies and hordes will hurt you.

My advice is to read the hell out of the codex, and no matter what, get tonnes of seraphim. seraphim are one of the single best units in the game with their jump packs, faith points, and hit-and-run special rule. they are excellent tank hunting troops with their high speed, twin inferno pistols or melta bombs. there are all kinds of sleazy tricks you can do with them to beleaguered units in an assault.

rhinos are probably good.

exorcists terrify a lot of mech armies and since almost nobody plays infantry based armies that has a choice, it's nice to shut them down. at least two exorcists is good, but i suggest getting some cheap used whirlwinds and doing a little conversion work because for 60 bucks a pop, the exorcist model is a waste of money, and they are very difficult to find used. couple that with an inquisitor in a land raider, plus sisters with 2xmeltas per squad, retributors with multi meltas in rhinos and you can get balls deep in your opponents face with up to 14 str 8+ shots and 3d6 krak grenades to the face--and you haven't even brought your repentias with 2d6 up the field yet.

anyway, remember the only bad list is the one you don't have fun playing, so if you want to field 3 penitent engines (like me!), do it! maybe they'll get gunned down, but if they don't, it's a rollicking good time.

have fun, and welcome to the sorority.

this may be true, but that never stopped them from taking down my monolith in the first round of shooting.

I've had luck like that too and against Necrons I would probably jack all of three of them at it. The AP1 Flamers will take care of your warriors .

I just got the inquisitor with the Inferno Pistol...(confession) mostly cause I really liked the look of the figure. Anyway, I got the Inquisitor because I wanted access to the Vindicare Assassin which was gifted to me from a friend who never used it.

Now, the real question I have is.... Repentia? Why are they good to have? Close assault? Do I need them?

You should check out the 40k tactics or 40k army lists sections of the forums, if you search around (often I just put something in the little search engine to find what I'm looking for) you're bound to find some tips and advice (good and bad) about building a sisters army.

In my opinion, Repentia are a pretty rough choice because they tend to die off before they do anything of value, but I'll save getting into tactics for that forum. I can't blame you for getting the Inquisitor though, he's a pretty amazing model.
