Just got a new Leman Russ model and the Demolisher model. Don't expect any extras from these new models, in fact even though you can now make several different variants of Leman Russ tank, there are no extras as in the old model. I called GW to complain, but they said its just the way it is. I'm just going to do what I can using 1/35th scale tanks to create standard tanks for my Krieg.

What extras where you hoping for exactily?
Edit: I mean GW isn't stupid, they don't package more than 10 legs and 10 torso backs in a space marine tac squad kit because they don't want you to make more than 10 marines. Same with tanks, they aren’t going to give you enough tank pieces in one kit so that you could potentially make more than one tank.

Were you expecting anything different? You have the turrets for 3 tank variants in there; something had to be cut.

Yeah the fat from your wallet.
I see it this way, Gw is kickin it around the office.
Model maker- "Hey guys i found a way to make all the tank options in plastic and it will save us $xxx.xx a year in the metal cost alone."
Gw - " Aw man thats awsome. But i feel the average gamer will believe with so many new options they'll be spoiled."
Model maker- "Well they are its a new hayday for modelers everywhere, long live the plastic!"
Gw-" But certainly with all the options gamers will expect the same from all our kits."
MM-" Hey we can do that."
GW- "No, split the kit in half, lose the accesories, make them in metal, and raise the price 9.50."
MM- " what about my stapler?"

Oh no! I don't have to buy expensive Forgeworld turrets or convert my own if I want to field variants! Lord almighty, I don't have to put together the awful old track assembly for every Imperial Guard tank! Curse you GW, for you may as well have killed my dog and put sugar in my gastank!

Not really sure what this thread is about. It's a tank kit that gives you the option of one of three turrets. It's missing the Guard Accessory Sprue, and that is a legitimate problem (especially as the price went up, yet you get less stuff). The only real 'shame' GW should feel is for that abysmal 'new' Basilisk that is actually missing the pieces to make it a complete kit.

The new kits arer much better than the old ones they replaced. That said, I was miffed as well when I realized the accessory sprue was no longer included. I think that's what the OP was pissed about.

Listen, I feel this guy's pain. If a rhino has a storm bolter, and the option for a second one, there should be 2 storm bolters in the box. Trukks can have rockkit launchas, but they aren't in the box. Battlewagons, same deal. Dreadnoughts have no plasma cannons, no autocannons, no heavy bolters - why?
Of course, if they included a Deffrolla and a Lobba in the battlewagon box, they couldn't sell it as an addon for an extra $15, or have FW sell it for $30. This is the worst sort of penny-pinching.

Not having an upgrades sprue for a tank is different to not providing the weapons options on a dread. The tank weapon options are provided.
The only difference is we don't rename every dreadnought weapon variant the "Character From Greek Mythology" Dreadnought.

Agreed, if you can take it you should be able to build with the kit you bought, not have to pay x amount more.
I would rather pay more for the entire kit, be able to build all options, rather than have to buy more separate kits and still pay more.
The spares are always handy and if you don't want 'em, flogg 'em.

If all of the options were included the boxes would probably double in cost for the amount of stuff you would get. This is especially true for tanks as some of the upgrade pieces are very large. If every tank came with a dozer blade, that is probably adding another sheet to the model kit. Going from 3 sheets to 4 is a 25% increase so expect rhino's to go from $33 to to about $41. The point is that people do not always take every option and thus GW tries to give he players some common configurations. Unfortunately as they design the kits way in advance, they do not always know what will become the super popular option in the future. They might be able to do a better job with this, but it takes a few months after a codex comes out for people to figure out the best way to run a new army.
Example:
Imagine a Nob box with all of the options: you would have a bike, Stikk bombs, Big Choppa, Power Klaw, Choppa, Slugga, Shoota, TL Shoota, Combi Rokkit, Combi Schorcha, Heavy Armor, Bosspole, Waaagh Banner, Ammo runt, Cybork Bodies, and Painboy options. Then there are all of the optional decorative elements, like iron gobs, pouches, ammo belts, and spikes. Nobs with all of the options would cost $50 each. After you build your Nob you would have around 75% of the kit in unused parts.
I do not mind finding ways to scratch build stuff if there is some sort of model to start with.

And yet the Razorback and Immolator each only cost $35. Perhaps the cost of a sprue isn't as important as you thought?

I don't agree that's 100% true. Yes, it's a 25% plastic increase, but I don't know that means a 25% price increase, as the actual material cost of the plastic is probably not the biggest cost driver - I'd imagine marketing, labor, packaging, and shipping... adding more plastic to the box is not a linear scale as you propose.
svendrex wrote:Imagine a Nob box with all of the options
Nobs are an unusual situation, in that I think they probably have more options then nearly any other unit. Even still, I think nearly everything you list already is present, with the excetion of the bikes... and the omission of bikes for the nobs is one of the more reasonable ones. I'm talking about some of the more grubby ones, like no meltagun with assault marines.

Did I cry?
No. I shelled out another $13 per Battlewagon and bought the upgrade sprues. Because I have come to accept that GW are a bunch of bastards who will continue to drain me of every dollar I can spare.
BAWWW threads don't help matters either way, and they're annoying to look at.

Surely it would not add too much cost, say to include the plastic kit needed be able to build both sponson weapons for a LR Redeemer.Or any number of the smaller options available, like the extra storm bolter mentioned earlier,or a third turret option for a razorback.Would it not work out ok if they cut back on the plastic we do not need in a kit and switched it for stuff that increases our options ?

GW know what they are doing, it's kinda two fingers up to the buyer. Like for Tyranids Warriors, they have all have to have to the same options as stated in the codex, so if you want Rending Claws you have to buy 3 boxes unless you go to a bits store. Which in my opinion you shouldn't have to do.
At least in the old days you could order individual parts from GW themselves ...

The problem with that, of course, is that it would spawn never ending arguments that the main weapons can't fire without causing a weapon destroyed result on the third turret.

So let me get this right...the new tank box doesn't come with 3 turrets, but merely 3 weapon choices for the one turret it comes with? Not as good a deal as I thought.
Maybe it's time to return to scratch building wargear options?
You know, I can't wait until Wargames Factory produces some vehicles for their Alien Sun lineup. You get 18 soldiers in their box, GW sized, for only 20 USD.

I've noticed that GW seems to be getting more of my money from overpriced accessories these days than actual model sales (as in the 20+ melta and 20+ plasma guns I've bought direct). I really wonder if this is causing them to make questionable decisions about not including things so that players will just buy them direct.
Of course, since FW turrets seem to pop up on eBay for $15 with minimal shipping (and they're not recasts!), I just buy used old LRs and new FW turrets... that way I've got a Demolisher/BT turret and an Exterminator/Executioner turret. Cheaper and more flexible.

Couldn't you magnetize the turret weapon? I bought the Demolished kit a while ago and it struck me that if i'd bought some magnet's with it (i buy from an online store usually) i could have done so quite easily. I assume the new standard russ is similar?
