While this practice has been used in Northern Ireland for some time, it seems that protestors visiting London shall be given the opportunity to get Wet and Wild.

It will be interesting to see how this is implemented, whether we will see these trucks at every demonstration or whether they will be called in when things get bad.

The all encompassing nature of the Water Cannon calls in to question the possibility of hitting 'Innocent' protestors. I, however, think this will be a nice deterrent to keep 'peaceful' protests actually
peaceful.

Whilst this thread may be locked at any time I agree that water cannons could be improved somewhat but I will add that we have always had water cannons in the UK inventory, same as with the old Green Goddesses, we just don't have cause to use them. Until a couple of days ago that is.

Knowing the UK, we will probably opt for the 'rioter friendly' model to comply fully with Health & Safety - said water cannon therefore has all the pressure of an average garden hose. At least, the ones shown on BBC Breakfast looked like that; one delinquent was merrily throwing his stack of bricks through the 'torrent' of water.

I vote for the sort of water cannon that is more like a huge Karcher pressure washer...

Pretty funny to me actually.

But it is Britain. We should nod to history and tradition. I propose if the rioting continues a contingent of red coats in full 1812 era regalia be sent out. If the King's subjects to continue to be uppity then form double columns and advance. Right!

Alternatively lets go Angle- Saxon uniforms and catapults. have the catapults launch Haggis. If Haggis can stop the Hun, I'm sure it will put paid to a few protesters. HAGGIS!!!

Ah I see you played the 'Ian Tomlinson' card...

When police ask you to clear the way, you move. You don't put your hands in your pockets and saunter casually down the road. This guy didn't deserve to die, but I can understand why the officer lost his temper. It's not like he intentially wanted to kill him by pushing him, I'm sure the officer wasn't aware of any underlying medical condition he had.

Yeh sure that guy deserved to die.

Incredible the amount of people in this thread siding with the police on this one. Flipping water canons aren't going to fix the idiots who are using them.

Sure you've proved yourself capable of controlling riots and not insigihting them yourselves, have another weapon!

The Ian Tomlinson card? What because he's the only example of where police have done this sort of thing in britain? Give me a break.

Why shouldn't they side with the police? Unless you're a flaming pile of poo unworthy of the spit it takes for the average British citizen to spit on you, you're not going to support a riot.

Either you don't really know what your talking about or you support the idea that police can break out their battons and start twatting people when no sign of violent protest has been shown. I can give you many examples of that happening in the UK.

I find it hysterical that the politicians are so shocked about the whole thing. If they actually spent time looking at our history the masses have always protested and we have come close to revolution a number of times in the past. I know that the game "A Very British Civil War" is fiction, but from what I've read we did actually came close to revolution at that period, which was only around 80 years ago.

Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.

2. I'm pretty sure that Ian Tomlinson received the same treatment that a
colored man or teen would have received here in the States for exactly the same
behavior (hands in pockets, sauntering away when ordered to clear). I'll let you
interpret that how you will.

Don't forget when its annual wash a redneck day here in the Amerozone.

ALL the cannons are needed for that one special day in mid-April.
