Are you kidding? The lightsaber combat in the prequels was nothing more than a lightshow. There was no sense of emotion or urgency at all. Hell, during the fight between Obi-wan and Anakin at the end of episode 3, I was expecting Goku to join in on the action. With the exception of Yoda against Palpatine, the fights were boring as hell, there's no sense of tension at all.

Sure, the fights in the original trilogy weren't as spectacularly choreographed, but they felt a lot more powerful as far as emotion is concerned. When Luke starts wailing on his father, you can tell that he's fething pissed. He's not doing a bunch of backflips and kartwheels just to look pretty. Likewise, Vader himself isn't making any attempt to show off either. Doing so would simply ruin the sense of terror and absolute power that accompanies him. He doesn't need to jump around like an idiot, he's Vader, and he knows it.

Totally covers all that. Seriously, watch the reviews; they are done in character, but the analysis is friggin brilliant. Even if you have to devote like 3 hours to it all. Plus the Star Trek ones are nothing to sneeze at.

I get lockouts on the site.

Something to do with security settings.
Beats the crap out of me. I'm a 'push the on button' and go kinda guy.

On the plus side, Youtube is also blocked.

I think "Duel of the Fates" was a good thing. But the prequels ruined a great many things. One of them being how cool a idea of a droid army would be.

But some of the "Extended Universe" is a great read.

I've sold so many armies. :(

I doubt he could do a flip if he wanted to, even with the whole "feel the force" thing going on.

The was Empire Strikes Back - Vader/Skywalker fight. Serious mood. Of course Lucas didn't do that one...

But yea the Obi / Ani fight was completely emotiionally uninspiring, not to mention some of the worst dialogue heard in 10 years.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? I'd like the Plinkett reviews better without the whole serial killer thing. I get that that's his gimmick, but the reviews are so good on their own, I don't think he needs a gimmick. Still gotta watch part 3 of this one, but the first 2 reviews were awesome sauce.

It wasnt even the worst part of it all. I just cant wrap my brain around why ANYONE (yes Lucas included) thought a 15 minute fight over an entire planet was a good idea. I just cant keep my attention on the whole thing, I think it should of lasted only a few minutes, like when they were in that conference room place (yea I know its at the start) that should of ended there.

I also cant stomach how after ALL THAT, Ani decides that flipping over Obiwan, who was on the high ground, would be a tactically smart move. Why the hell would you do that? GAH!

My only complaint though about the guy that does these reviews (Ive seen alot of them by him) is that he takes so long getting from start to finish. Its annoying I have to watch an hour and a half to see it all, but its still funny

I agree (Though I still like the Darth Maul one the most), the last two episodes duel sequences were really boring and repetitive. Watch any of the duel sequences and watch their movements side by side. It's always high strike, high strike, low strike, low strike, spin (or jump/kick), high strike again, repeat. I hated it! The originals were simpler and actually closer to actual kendo which Lucas based it off of the first time (though their foot work was awful in all of those movies lol). So yeah definitely the prequels saber duels (except Darth Maul's for me) sucked!

Yeah "Duel of Fates" is the musical score that got me into movie soundtracks when I was a kid. I guess if there was anything consistently good about the prequels it was John Williams's epic music =).

I don't get what people dislike about star sars. Yes, I did not watch episodes 2 & 3 for years because I was so taken aback by episode 1, but then I realised it is just a story and watched - and enjoyed - the other two.

That the newer movies are not as characterful as the older trilogy, I agree with, but that is a trend in movies in general. Watch a few movies from the sixties and seventies, they really take time to show emotions, even trains of thought, it is amazing - and enjoyable.

This whole "I don't like this character/race/plot twist" is just like space wolves thunderwolf cavalry. I hated the idea. It didn't sit right with me. It did not fit into my idea of space wolves - and I played them for years in second edition. Then someday I realised that they don't take away the existing bits, nor diminish them, and suddenly I could simply accept them - now I like the idea. The same works for things like ewoks, jar jar, things like that in star wars. For me, at least.

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

I take it you don't watch many good modern movies. And even if that were the case 'everyone else is doing it' is still no excuse for mediocrity.

That was not meant to mean modern movies cannot be good - I know many good ones. But what was said about the fight scenes not being as dramatic and so on is something I noticed is a trend: less taking time for things to sink in, quicker change of scenes, and so on. That has advantages, too, but it also has disadvantages, and the new trilogy had a lot of the disadvantages.

Well it is true that, on average, cuts in modern film become more and more frequent, it's not necessarily a good thing. Just because digital editing software have made cutting and editing easy and fast, doesn't mean it should be abused.

Thankfully, we still have directors like Anton Corbijn who can actually establish a shot.

+1

Its just a movie. If you don't like it, don't watch it. I think that people nitpick way too much. Sure, there were some really stupid parts in Star Wars movies, but honestly, if they ruin the whole movie for you, let alone the entire series, well, you need to learn to look past it an enjoy a movie. Same with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. People always nitpick at stuff like the refridgerator, or the part where he's swinging from the trees. Those parts were only a few minutes of the whole movie though. So really, its not that bad.

I would argue that the bad parts were systemic and constant, with only a very few good moments; so yes, that ruined the movies for me. Including Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Yeah, because no whiny teenager has ever grown into being a better, more acceptable adult. Everyone knows your personality is set once you turn 16 and your experiences past that don't change you at all.

I mean his entire reason for turning to the dark side is pretty stupid as in:

"You are evil sith! i will get jedi to come after you!"

to

"Wow all the Jedi that went after him are dead, maybe i should kill some children!"
