I don't know about you guys, but I have never, ever seen a live, well painted GK army.
Some well painted squads miniatures, but not even a 500pts army.
GW is making BA and GK so good, that people just want to play with them and forget an important part of the hobby.

Plenty. My own I would say is decent enough, I've had compliments on it.

Yup, seen a few but then again, from a couple of editions ago before the latest codex release.

Its the same phenomena whenever the latest and shiniest thing is released; a certain proportion of people drop everything and go and buy new stuff and a certain proportion of new-comers start with that army.

Online? Yes. In person? No. Oddly enough most of the GK armies i've seen are normal tactical marines hastily painted silver and had their hands chopped off so they could wield GK power weapons that they got from a friend that has the real GK box. Lots of those nemesis short sword thing wielding tactical squads in my FLGS.

Their about as badly painted as any other army just realised.

Eons ago someone local who I don't know the name of and only met once at the Glen Burnie battle bunker had a GK army that was a very cool dark black metalic color that really was awe inspiring.

if I were to make a GK army they would almost certainly be this same metalic black color.

My major problem with GK armies, is EVERYONE! paints them in a silver or grey color.....everyone. Ive only seen 3 non silver/grey GK armies ever, and one of them was such a light blue color that it looked grey. Red and black, where the other 2 and they looked pretty good, specially the red one. So if you ask me, I find GK to be incredibly boring to look at

I've seen one. Multiple Golden Demon winner Jim Wappel has an amazing Grey Knight army.

I owned a nice one, and I know three other people with VERY nice ones. In fact until the new 'dex I didn't know anyone owned one that wasn't nicely painted. Now I would still say there are more nicely painted ones than not.

I've seen about as many well painted GK armies in person as I have well painted BA armies, or Crimson Fists, or Imperial Fists, or Ultramarines, or Eldar, or Tau... I could go on.

I would like to think that my GK army is painted to the extent of my ability, and has actually forced me to pick up new techniques for white and such. I'm doing the 'boring' metal look, but I'm not going with the 'knight in shining armor' look. Mine are darker and 'flatter' looking.

Yes, like any other army in the game I've seen a bunch of nicely-painted ones, a whole mess of the tabletop quality stuff that most of us who have patience but not talent can put down, and then a great mass of unpainted, half-painted or terribad stuff.

I am kinda going for that look too.

no Mithiril Silver highlights, just a flat Boltgun metal coat. its quite striking.

Yeah, I have. It's a very nice take on it, he actually uses gray, no metallics.

In my Gallery is a Silver and Purple LRC; when I can get some $ together to make a GK Army, said army will be painted in the same scheme.



So you do not have to go looking for it. And the top storm bolter will be repainted Black+Gun metal, with Gold accents like the rest of the guns.

I have seen one in my local store, and it was quite impressive. He DID paint them silver, but he used a lot of red and white to really break up the silver.

I have a fluff problem with non-silver GKs. there arn't multiple chapters for color differences, like there are with other marines.


that said, its your army and the color makes no difference from an ingame perspective(although I find GWs pictures of Red GKs in the DH codex to be a little odd)

If you check my gallery there's a few pictures of my Grey Knights on there, I painted them that colour scheme as I currently have a 4000 point Iron Knights marine army (silver) so I didn't want to paint silver all over again.

I personally like the look of grey Grey Knights than silver Grey knights...

I never understood why they are usually painted "silver" since they are grey after all. I love how their power armor looks, thats what appeals to me with them. My alternate GK paint scheme I made fluff to fit it. They are not actual grey knights; they just use armor and tactica from the GK's. Yeah, it was a reward for telling the imperium how to make psycannons =) Kryptonians were light years ahead of mankind in technology 40k years ago. The imperium keeps a lid on where the blue prints came from so that the weapons are not replicated lol.

well, in all the novels and GW artwork they have silver armor.

the Grey is for this.


they stand between the light of the Galaxy and the Darkness of the warp, caught in the middle, in the grey. a line of shining steel between Light and Dark. and so they are the Grey Knights.

One of the local players has a really nice Grey Knights army that he's been playing with ever since GK were released. He did a really nice job with them.
