Just got an email from Mantic which has a picture hint of what their next army will be. Its a metal model of a dark elf scorceress and looks really impressive. Sorry, not technically minded enough to post a picture of it! Thanks for posting the pic Banesword.

This is it:

With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time...

They will be called "Twilight Kin".

Really like the look of that sorceress.

Unfortunately it seems like the range of models might end up initially being hybrid metal/plastic until mantic can become profitable enough to make them in plastic.

They may well do what they did with their Chaos Dwarf range and that is make a metal 'conversion' kit to turn the regular elves into Dark Elves - it saves them having to design and make new injection moulding frames and allows them to re-use existing sprues with minor changes.

Ronnie said in BoW's Turn 8 a couple of weeks ago that the initial Twilight Kin stuff would be a hybrid kit like the Abyssal Dwarves, but that he wanted to revisit the Dark Elf stuff in the future with their own stand alone kits.

Presumably then, this is a first 'toe in the water' to see how popular the line is and whether it is worth making a stand alone plastic kit. Hopefully it is...

Hmmmm... has potential. I'm working on a DE army right now, so I'll keep my eyes on Mantic. Their work seems a bit hit and miss, hopefully this'll be one of their better model lines.

That Sorceress is fantastic! Not too keen on the information about a conversion range for their existing Elves (I think that Mantic's current Elves are easily their weakest effort), but I'm digging that new model. I'll be adding her to my collection for sure.

Not very interested in the metal hybrids, while their abyssal dwarves are nice you cant build as big of an army as their full plastic lines for the same price

That's a nice mini, Mantic are getting better all the time. If the rest of the range are this good I'm sure they will sell well.

It's not a terrible miniature, but Mantic are becoming the kings of cliche, when it comes to miniature sculpting.

The bloody knife, the stockings, high heel shoes, blah blah....it's just so generic that it really doesn't do much to stamp anything new on the theme.

I'm sorry, but for me, Mantic = boring

YOU are not allowed to address her so informally.

You must call her by her name and title - "Lady Malys!" : )

I like the sculpt and the style. I want to see more. Especially the troops. I will buy a "Twilight Kin" army for KoW exclusively. As long as the Twilight Kin troops aren't suckage like their High Elves.

Funny it's as if this WORKSHOP was making GAMES based on someone else's stuff... (whose games were themselves a rip off of Tolkein and Moorcock by way of Manowar album covers).

I will say that the model is nice but I would like them to try and do something else then the backstabbing, Khorne/Slaanesh worshiping Dark Elves that is out there. You know something fresh.

Ahhh....wise K-K....I see what you did there

Don't get me wrong, I could burn a list of companies that seem to specialise in mediocrity and blandness.....it just seems like Mantic is joining those ranks

I think 'rip off' is a bit harsh. Especially when there is nothing original in Tolkien's Middle Earth. I say Tolkien's Middle Earth as the term was around a very long time before he used it. All art references the work of previous artists.

As for this figure, I think it's a bit dull but then I am not a fan of Dark Elves.

Mantic should not release hybrid kits based on their elves. Not worth the investment.

Meh. I would prefer it if Mantic tried to find the own way, stylistically, when it comes to Dark Elves. Of course, last Mantic did that, we got Mantic Elves, which are really sub-par models...

So I guess this means we'll get generic European fantasy humans then down the line?
